It's time for the Valley's exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now, your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Good afternoon and welcome in to the Boomo Bugg Show. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us a free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Brett Beaird, welcome in where Alabama makes it official. They got a new boss to the tight ends. And if you can't make it down for the big postseason party on the hardwoods this week, we've got your coverage here at 93.9 The Score. Good afternoon, welcome in and how are you? Happy Monday to you and the listeners. Alabama adds a few co-receiver, Tyler Henderson from Mississippi Gulf Coast and officially hires, if you alluded to, Richard Owens as tight end coach. Zach Pounders of the Shoals Sports Report will preview a big week of high school boys and girls basketball action at Wallace State. And 93.9 The Score will be your headquarters for a lot of those games. Adam is here right now to recalb a busy Saturday in SEC basketball. Running out of Saturdays here in SEC basketball for the month of February. Adam Spencer, I think we'll concur with that. Getting ready for March Madness there at Saturday down south. Adam, welcome in. Happy Monday to you. How are you? I'm doing great, fellas. How are you? We're doing all right. Adam, let's start with a very interesting weekend and a very interesting stretch of days for the gang on the plains, the Auburn Tigers. They won four straight. They've now lost four straight. And Stephen Pearl says, if you're going to have an attitude, Mr. Hall, there is another place that you need to go sit on the bench for a while. A very interesting weekend and a very interesting stretch for the Auburn Tigers of late, Adam. Yeah, you know, this Auburn team is pretty tough to get a handle on because, you know, they're still projected to be in the NCAA tournament field by most experts. And they're like locked in as like an eight or a nine seed, which means that they're not really in any danger of falling out of the field at this point. And that's strange to me. You know, I think that that win at Florida, I mean, that was a heck of a win. And I think that that's doing a lot of heavy lifting right now. Because, you know, even in non-conference play, sure, they got a couple of nice wins. But they also got blown out by, I think it was Gonzaga blew them out and Michigan blew them out. No, Michigan blew them out. I think Gonzaga was the other team. But, yeah, I mean, they have some really, really good wins. And they have some really confusing losses. This recent stretch of losses, this four-game losing streak, like, it's tough to be too concerned about it. You know, Tennessee was in there. Alabama was in there. Arkansas was in there. You know, those are good quality programs. So, you know, I think that their four-game losing streak, you'd like to see them win one. But that Florida win is still doing a lot of lifting. So, the concerning part is, as you guys mentioned there, the Keyshawn Hall suspension here, who knows how long that's going to go on. Not having him in the Arkansas game was a big loss. So, you know, we'll see if he can meet the standards of the program or however Pearl phrased it and get back on the court. Because, you know, this losing streak is probably not going to end without their leading scorer on the floor. Yeah, you've got Auburn number 11 in your latest power rankings on Saturday down south. You've got Bama number 6, Arkansas number 2. Those two will be playing each other Wednesday in a key game down the stretch. Bama wins its fourth consecutive game, beating South Carolina 89-75. The Big Three play well. Holloway, Phylon, and Wrightsell. Bama playing much better, but a key game coming Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum. Yeah, it's going to be important for Alabama to defend the home court there. You know, that would be a big win for the Ties' resume. Arkansas is playing really well right now. Darius Acuff is looking like a lottery pick. You know, he might work his way into the top six or seven before all is said and done if he keeps looking like this. So, you know, he's a tough player. He's going to really stress that Alabama defense. I put defense in quotation marks there because Alabama doesn't really seem to know that they can really try that hard on that end of the fourth. Obviously, not having Charles Bediaco in the post is going to be a worrying sign for them moving forward. That's exactly where Acuff likes to attack. He can get to the paint, score at the rim. He can find an open shooter. So, you know, he's a really all-around threat when he gets into the paint. And they don't have a stopper at the rim anymore. So, he could have a big game. You know, it's going to be interesting to see because Bailon is going to be right there on the edge of that lottery, too, in the draft. So, that's going to be a matchup that you're not going to want to miss, you know, see who can do more, Acuff or Bailon. Adam, do you feel kind of bad as a Missouri fan doing what you did at Texas A&M? They were the darlings of the SEC in the world. They had your own little moniker, Bucky Ball. And then you guys just are fresh from putting the brakes on a four-game losing streak. Alabama, I think, got it started. Your Tigers from Missouri added to their misery. Do you feel bad about taking the wind out of Texas A&M's sail? Well, I definitely felt bad on Wednesday night, but I think it was more from the flu that I was battling. I had to wake up in the morning and make sure that ending of that game wasn't a dream. So, you know, I'm feeling better now. But, yeah, I mean, I definitely felt bad on Wednesday night, whether or not it was at the expense of Texas A&M. You know, no comment there. You know, this is, yeah, the things have kind of hit a major speed bump here for Bucky Ball. And, you know, that's the way that they play. You know, sometimes it lends itself to streakiness. You know, when you're hot, you're hot. You can beat anybody. When you're not, you're not. The ball is confident. Exactly. Sometimes the basket looks like the ocean, and sometimes the basket looks like a thimble up there. And right now it looks like a thimble. And, you know, we'll see if some of these guys can regain some confidence. And, you know, I don't think that they're a bad team by any means. It's just now they've got to pick themselves up off the mat for the first time, and we'll see if they can do it. Adam, Tennessee continues to roll. They beat LSU 73-63. It was Rick Barnes' 250th win at Tennessee, which is rather impressive. Nate Amen continues to put himself in the first round of the NBA draft. Scored 22. Jacoby Dillespie. JP Estrella played pretty well, too. We know LSU's one of the bottom in the SEC, but Tennessee continues to – the Vols continue to roll. Yeah, I mean, you've got to take care of business against the teams that you have to beat. And, you know, they did that. It was a pretty comfortable workman-like win. You know, you're not going to – probably not going to have too many plays in that game in the highlight reel at the end of the year. But, you know, it's just a nice, solid SEC win. You're not going to turn down any opportunities to add one of those to your resume. So, yeah, I mean, it's all about – now that you've got Nate Amen going and you know what you got from Jacoby Gillespie, you know, it's time to find some guys. You mentioned Estrella. You know, they've got to see who are the other guys that they can get going a little bit here. You know, Boswell would be a guy who you'd like to see a little bit more from offensively. I know he's not on the court to really score, but, you know, he could shoot better than he has. You know, you've got to get a little bit more bench production. Carey has been good for them, but, you know, I think that you need a little more consistency from there because once you get to March Madness, you know, you've got to have eight guys that you can really rely on. And I don't know if they have eight right now. They're getting there. But, yeah, right now when you play these teams like LSU and South Carolina and some of the bottom-tier teams in the league, it's all about, you know, developing some of these third, fourth, fifth options, I think. Adam Spencer, Saturday down south. How does the ruling on what at the end of last week affect the SEC this coming season? They're in Oxford. Mr. Chandler said getting a green light from the local judge, just like the verdict's still out in big orange country. How does that shape the SEC with the news starting with Chambliss? Yeah, I mean, that's absolutely huge. You know, it gives Pete Golding and his offense a great leader. He's proven that he can, you know, he's proven what he can do. You know, I think that his talent will translate outside of, it's not like Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss Jr. were solely responsible. Now, they deserve a ton of credit for, you know, seeing what they had in him out of Ferris State, bringing in his offense back up to start the season and then trusting him once it was time to trust him. Simmons was injured and inconsistent. So, you know, I think that Kiffin and Weiss deserve a ton of credit there. But Chambliss made plays. You know, he's a veteran player. He had a lot of success at the D2 level. So, you know, he's not a product of the system. He's a heck of a quarterback. And he really, really elevates Ole Miss' ceiling here. And I think that, you know, they have to be considered an SEC title contender with him back in the mix. So, what does Deuce Knight do now? He came over with the assumption, okay, the door's open, and now what? I don't know what he can do. I mean, you know, it's locked in, basically. I mean, I don't know if he could get, you know, if he wants to move, I'm sure he could file a lawsuit like everybody else does and see what the judge decides there. You know, I think that it's not the worst thing for him to sort of sit behind Chambliss and see what Chambliss, you know, how he plays and learn from the veteran who's won a lot of college football games. But, you know, I don't know if he can get an injunction to open the portal specifically for him because I'm sure there's some teams out there, potentially even Tennessee, depending on Joey Aguilar's ruling, that would love to have him on board. So, you know, we'll see how that plays out. I'm sure that if he wants to move, though, he'll try something through the courts that seem to be adjudicating a lot of NCAA stuff these days. Yeah, I was going to say, Adam, you just compete. You don't have any other choice. And try to see if you can impress the coaches for 2027. Adam, great stuff, as always. Should be another key week in the SEC. I know you've got the PowerPole up online right now. Adam, where can we get online, buddy, and get all your good stuff? Here are post-game thoughts from Alabama men's basketball head coach Nate Oates following the win against South Carolina. It was just four in a row. A lot of stuff we didn't do great, but we did enough to get a win and a CC play. You know, we got three yards, scored it pretty well. We took care of it a lot better in the second half. I wasn't happy with our first half turnovers, but 20 assists, 12 turnovers. We did a decent job moving at six straight games. We've hit at least 12 threes, so we're starting to shoot it like I thought we could shoot it. And then getting right to healthy is a big part of that. Holloway and I file on continue to shoot it well. I'll have more in a moment. This year, we honor the most important anniversary ever. An event that reshapes civilization as we know it. Welcome back in. It's so fresh. The ink is still dripping off. Over the latest AP basketball top 25 in the house. And a new top dog, Michigan, is number one, replacing Arizona. They fall over the weekend. And thus, they fall down to the number four spot. Houston, by the way, number two. Not one team from the SEC in the top ten. Alabama does crack back in at 25. Wednesday night's opponent, Arkansas, moves up one to number 20. Vandy at 19. And the highest ranked team from the SEC, Brett Beaird. At number 12, the Florida Gators. Do you know anybody who knows anything about the Florida Gators? Our next guest knows a lot about the Florida Gators. And I think they, right now, are heading shoulders above everybody else in the SEC for men's basketball. Just call it the golden rule. John Ferrari is in the Sunshine State. CBS Sports Radio, 1420 WAOC and 1240 WFOI. And a place called St. Augustine. Probably still hearing the roar of the Daytona 500. He's online at 965sports.com. John, welcome in. Can you hear me now? I can, Harold. Great to be with you and Brett. And I'll tell you, you could hear the roar of the O'Connell Center on Saturday afternoon. That place was rocking like a Beard Brothers birthday. I'll tell you, it was electric in there on Saturday. And Florida never trailed. I mean, Xavier and Lee hit a three to begin the festivities, and they honestly never looked back. Now, Kentucky ran a couple of strings of seven in a row and ten in a row in the second half and crept within two at one point. But every time they got to the point you thought they might take the lead, Florida had a shot to respond, whether it was Xavier and Lee, whether it was the interior with Chin Yulu, whether it was Urban Klavkar, who had five threes on Saturday. So, if Florida shoots the three like they did this past Saturday, they can beat anybody in the country. Now, that's a big if, but they have got the three-pointer back in their offense, at least for now. Johnny, if they're the 12th best team in the country, what does that say about the other 11? Because anyone who's watched this team would say, gee whiz, these guys must be the defending national champs. And they are. Your thoughts about this team, that was last year, this is this year. Sometimes that can be a plus, sometimes that can be a negative because you've got a big target on your back. But your thoughts about, let's borrow a NASCAR term here, basically they're in a good position because it really doesn't matter outside of pride and ego where you are right now. Just stay there, get to the postseason, and then it's up to you. But your thoughts about this team at this point compared to last year's? They're peaking at the right time, Harold. They had a tough non-conference schedule. You just mentioned the top five. I heard it during the break before I came on and Michigan being the new number one team. But Florida played Arizona to begin the season and lost a close one. They lost at Cameron Indoor to Duke, who's in the top five. They had a shot at the end to win. And they lost to UConn, who's currently ranked fifth in the country. All three of those games were away games. None of them were in the state of Florida. So having said that, and the fact that I think it's taken them a while with Coach Golden to find out what works best with this team. Walter Clayton and Will Richard were at the game on Saturday. Those are two big pieces they don't have this year. And I think it took Xavier and Lee a while to learn that he's not playing in the Ivy League now. He's in the SEC. The young man is held tough, but I think it took him a while to find his place at this level and Boogie Flan. And I think now the pieces are starting to come together. And I like their chances right now, guys. I know they're ranked 12th, which they'd be a top three seed if you're going by rankings right now. But six losses aside, I think the non-conference schedule is going to benefit them in March because they've basically played the toughest competition in the country, non-conference. And they've got the SEC lead right now. So I like where they are. I think health is going to be the biggest issue, meaning they've got to stay healthy because they only go eight deep. And if anybody gets hurt, then I think you have a problem. But right now, I like where Todd Golden and the Gators are trending moving forward. Yeah. Unlike football, playing a tough preseason schedule actually benefits you. Both Florida, Alabama, and Auburn have done that. Just to reiterate your point, Florida entered that Kentucky game ranked 354th nationally in three-point percentage. And you're right, when you lose Clayton, Richard, and Martin, that's going to take some threes out of it. Everybody knows how good that front line is. Condon will kind of disappear occasionally, but Hawk is really good. But if this three-point shooting comes on, John, they're going to be tough to handle down the stretch. That's really the key, Brett, the three-point shooting, because everything else is consistent with this team. The interior, Condon does come and go at times, but still, they've got Hauk, they've got Shin Yulu, and they've got Han Longton, who comes off the bench if you get in foul trouble. So they go four deep inside. It's the outside that you worry about. Boogie Flan gives you the intangibles with the steals and defense. But Xavier Lee and Urban Klavkar coming off the bench, and Klavkar's been their best shooter from the outside this season. Those two guys are going to have to come up big in March if Florida wants to get to Indianapolis in another Final Four. That's really going to be what determines it, because everything else is going to be consistent on this team. But is there going to be a night where they can't hit from the outside? Well, that's the danger, and then that's the night they could be eliminated. So that's really going to be the question mark going into March. They're not going to be as good from the outside as they were a year ago without the three guys you just rattled off, Clayton, Richard, and Martin. But can they be good enough? Meaning, can they hit enough that with the dominance inside, they're going to be able to get back to a Final Four anyway? And I think they might have a good chance of making a run at it. It's going to be interesting. They're going to play in Tampa the first two rounds, guys. I think that's where it's trending. NCAA has a site in Florida this year. And with Florida creeping back in the top 12, I think 16 is the floor for this team, and Final Four is the ceiling right now with where we're trending with the basketball. John, before we jump off, 1-10, where are you with the North Alabama boy now compared to where this Florida program was this time last year? One being I can't stand it, 10, I can't wait. I think it's probably about a 9.2. Can't wait. I mean, what I've heard from Coach Summeroff so far, I've loved guys. Now, he's not coached a game yet, and that's what matters. But the enthusiasm, the excitement, and just honestly more of the transparency in the press conferences that I've been around, but nothing against Coach Napier, but it was pretty vanilla. And if someone said dry toast, you really didn't get a lot out of his press conferences. And then we saw the 12 formation, which we haven't heard about two tight ends. That's another thing that's a plus with Coach Summeroff. Not that I'm against using two tight ends, but not on every down. So I think this is going to be a lot more fun. I think it's going to be a better product on the field. The question in my mind, guys, is how much better and what is Coach Summeroff feeling? And we're not going to know in one year. I understand that. But I think it's going to be a fun ride with him. I do. And the bar's been set pretty low from what Florida's had the past four years. So I think he's going to be able to step over that bar. But how much higher does he go? That's really the question right now. Yeah. Ron Zuck and Billy are not there anymore. John, where can we get online and listen to your show later today, bud? You can get online at 1240news.com and 102.1 and 1240 in St. Augustine. And, guys, it's always an honor and a privilege to be with you. Put the brakes on the Daytona 500. Crank up your show this afternoon. John, thanks so much for your time, buddy. Last year, she wanted to be a tap dancer, but that only lasted two lessons. Okay, but she kept the shoes because they are adorable. Well, just know that with Progressive, you can easily add another car to your auto insurance because we know life changes. Progressive Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. If it's the Auburn Tigers, you want to know nobody does a better show than Brian Matthews, senior editor at AuburnSports.com. Brian, welcome in. Happy Monday to you. How are you? I'm doing pretty good. Happy Monday to you and everybody out there. Hey, Brian. Oh, my gosh. Can we put it in the can, put a lid on it, and save it a while? That's what we've been through. But in the meantime, Brian, if you're going to do a walk-up song, you know baseball has these walk-up songs. If you were going to do a walk-up song for this Auburn basketball team, would you consider Ray Stevens' old song streaking? I mean, four wins in a row, four losses in a row. Brian, what's going on with these Tigers? That's a good choice, yeah. And they have been streaking in the wrong direction. Yeah. What's going on? It's hard to put your finger on one thing, you know. You know, it doesn't help when Keyshawn Hall is not playing. No. It doesn't help when they continue to shoot poorly from the outside, continue to have issues defensively. I just thought the two home losses last week were really, really, really tough on them. Yeah. You know, they're still a pretty competitive team. Honestly, I thought without Keyshawn Hall, they might get blown out of the building in Arkansas and down in there for most of the game, which I thought was a positive. I mean, if you can take a positive from a loss. But, you know, there's this team now that's not very deep, and they just don't have quite enough to me to do all the things you need to do to win games, right? I mean, you know, Keyshawn, Murphy's playing really well right now. Todd Pettiford had a pretty good game. I thought at Arkansas, maybe his best game of the year. But they just can't get enough from enough people at one time to really put a full game together. You think Steven is appreciating his dad, every head coach out there. It's one thing to have all this talent on paper. It's great. You love the four and five stars. You love the rock stars. But sometimes they can have a two-ed. Your thoughts about the situation there with Keyshawn, and that has to be, as a coach, one of the toughest decisions to make. Yeah. I mean, we're talking about mid-February, so we should be past a lot of these things, in my opinion, right? Everybody should have all that stuff put kind of behind them. And now we're working toward the goal of winning basketball games and getting better and getting ready for the, you know, tournament time. And when you have these things happen for whatever reason, I think they're big setbacks. And, you know, I felt like Auburn basketball has lacked leadership this season from players. I think the most natural leaders are maybe, you know, Sebastian Williams Adams, a freshman. You know, that's hard to do. And then some other guys who are just coming into the program. So that's been difficult, I feel like. And they lack a lot of depth there. And they just do not have enough players that defend at a high enough level to be really, really good. Don't have to have the length on the perimeter to defend really well. And just don't have guys that are really good defenders, naturally. You just got through seeing Arkansas. Alabama is going to be facing them Wednesday night. Julius Acuff, Jr., scoring 31 points and may end up being a lottery pick when everything's said and done. We kind of figured, Cal, are not forgotten how to coach. What do you think about Arkansas? I think when they turn it on, they can be as good as anybody in the league. I just, they're a team to me that's full of talent but doesn't always play, you know, at the highest level all the time. And, you know, I think they're perfectly capable of running Auburn out of that gym if they wanted to. But they never really turned it up, you know. It seems like they played at a 6 or 7 or maybe an 8 and never really played at a 10 at least for a sustained period of time against Auburn. So, you know, I don't know. It depends, I guess, on what team shows up Arkansas-wise. But extremely talented. And if Coach Cal can get those guys playing at a higher level consistently, they could be a contender for sure. Brian Matthews, senior editor of auburnsports.com. This is obviously a crossroads for this team this season. Who's got a more intriguing resume than Auburn? We've just talked about the bad side. You take that coin and you toss it over. They beat the top-ranked team in the SEC right now in the country handily at their place. The committee here, and it's hard to believe, but it's going to be here before we know it. This is going to be an interesting conversation about these Auburn Tigers. I think you're going to make it. But where in the world do you put them? I guess, what, in the middle of the pack, maybe an 8 or 9. But this is one of the more intriguing resumes of anybody anywhere. It is. And they probably will be rewarded for the schedule they played. One of the toughest schedules in the country. They do have some nice wins. They've got some tough losses. But they don't have a lot of bad losses either. So that's good. So, you know, I think as long as they don't fall off a cliff, the last, what is it, seven games of the season, whatever it is. You know, I think they're in pretty good shape. But then again, you look at those games, those six, seven games. And again, whether it's Mississippi State away, Kentucky at home, Ole Miss at home, even LSU at home. They can win or lose any of those games. You know, that's just the way Auburn is right now. So they're going to have to get back to doing what they've done best in games that they've won against the teams, which is playing really, really physical and playing really, really good defense and not chucking up a bunch of threes and, you know, doing a bunch of other stuff. It doesn't work well for this team right now. So we'll see if they can do that. This is a week with, you know, a state's a team. I think you can go there and win, possibly. And, you know, Kentucky's a really talented team. But, again, you're getting them at Neville where Auburn should be really, really competitive. They didn't show that last week, but certainly capable of being. So there are opportunities there, but there's also opportunities to continue to streak in the other way. If Auburn can go 4-2 or 3-3, they should be in good shape because, again, they beat St. John's, who's won 11 consecutive games. They beat North Carolina State, who I think they're 8-3 in the ACC. And lost to Houston, but won. Be mad again. I know they're struggling right now a little bit. But the preseason, I think, is going to help them with the search committee. Yeah, they deserve a lot of credit. Chris Perl and his staff have put together a strong schedule. They did it last year and really did well against some great teams throughout the season. And it's been more of a fight this year. But when you put together a schedule like that, when you challenge a team like that, it usually makes your team better, more hardened, and it usually is rewarded once we get to selection Sunday. I feel that that's the way it's going to be. But Auburn can't completely fall off a cliff. You're not going to send a team to the NCAA tournament that's, what is Auburn, 5-7 now, that's 7-11 or 8-10. It's going to be tough to send a team like that to the tournament. So they've got to start winning some games. To me, this is the most dangerous part of the schedule. If you lose to a top-ranked team, that's one thing. But you cannot lose to Mississippi State and LSU. That, to me, this is where Auburn is right now. That's a dangerous matchup if they don't take care of business because perception is reality. But, Ron, let me ask you this. Is it so that Auburn's new head football coach is a praying man? Is he in the prayer these days by his O-line? I did write about that. Yes, you did. I just thought it was interesting, you know, sitting there listening to him and how he was able to kind of joke about it. And, you know, pointing out that that is an area where you've got 15 newcomers and no real starters returning, I guess. They've got, you know, a young kid that started two games at the center there. But not a lot of experience had to go out in the portal and sign nine. They've got five freshmen coming in. It is an area to watch really closely. But even while he's kind of, you know, saying, I'll pray about it or whatever, and, you know, he wasn't making fun of praying, but I think he was kind of shining a little light on it, right? And behind that, though, behind that veneer, I just sense a lot of confidence from him and his ability and his staff's ability to evaluate those players and bring them in and coach them up. I think he believes that they are going to be good on the offensive line. We'll see how that turns out, of course. But, yeah, I did write about that a little bit. And then, of course, I wrote about The Grateful Dead in my musical part, which was great. There you go. People need to read Monday Musings. You get the fans or the solo acts. You've got them down pat. Stanton Romale, Joe Simmons, Cole Bass, probably the center, Jacob Strand. I know Ellis, Buster, and Ward are returning. Again, that's kind of what spring practice is, is to see who's going to be able to play for you. I'm also going to be curious to see Wilson's eye ear. He may be in 2027. But, again, when you've got that many bodies and you've got some competition, B, Matt, and I think Auburn's going to, as Goliath said, we're going to run the heck out of the ball. I think the O-line is going to be eventually pretty good. Well, I think when you have a running quarterback and you have a staff that wants to run the ball, that's a lot easier to do than trying to find the perfect left tackle to right tackle. You know, go back and pass, you know, a bunch of times during the game. So, if that's their plan, they've got the right guys to do it. They've certainly got, you know, now four former starting running backs at other schools now, including, you know, Cobb here back at Auburn. So, that's really good. They've rebuilt the tight end room. You know, they've got the quarterback. They've got his receivers. Oh, yeah. There's plenty of reasons to be, you know, at least, at the very least, you know, interestingly excited about it, you know, or curiously excited about it, yeah. And for the others that, you know, just want to believe, you know, I think there's reasons to be really, really excited about it. It's the offseason when our teams are defeated and playing for championships, right? Speaking of excited, did the coaching staff jump into a chilly Lake Martin down there when they got the news from Donovan Moore? Wow, what a great pickup. I mean, and, you know, the thing is, throughout this time at Auburn, when they've not had a lot of success, right, they've had some, but they've had some great defensive linemen. I mean, some absolute studs, guys that are playing in the NFL or will be playing in the NFL. Derrick Hall just won a ring, of course, but, you know, we're talking about the top player in the state, one of those playmaking defensive tackles you'd really like to add to your program. So, yeah, really nice pickup for Goalish and his staff. These guys, you know, I'm not going to pretend like I'm embedded with them, right? I'm around them all the time, but, you know, I've been around a while, and you can just tell. You're sending them chocolates, right? Yeah. You can tell that they are working really, really hard in recruiting, right? So, and that effort pays really big dividends, I feel like. And kudos to them for going out right away as a brand-new staff and getting a top player like Donovan Moore. You never know what you're going to get when college baseball season begins, and particularly with pitching on the first weekend. In fact, it looked like, well, where in the heck are the bats after Auburn won, I believe, 2-1 Friday night, the 2-1 of the first game of the doubleheader, and then they exploded at 17-2 to sweep the doubleheader in the three-game series. Bob Terrell, Bristol Carter played well, Fralick, McCrane. The bats were humming in the final game. B-Matt, your assessment of the weekend for Auburn baseball? Well, I think the pitching was absolutely outstanding for Auburn. And, you know, it was good to see them kind of break out, you know, Sunday. Well, second game Saturday, not Sunday, excuse me, but game two, the doubleheader. But I thought Petrovic had an incredible start, as did Marciano, as did Jackson Sanders. You know, they've got two guys, I'll probably throw Tuesday, Andres Alvarez and Chatterton, who were starters last year. And they'll probably piggyback a non-conference game. So you feel really good about the guys that came in. Garrett Brewer, I thought, threw well in relief. Ryan Hessler really dominated in his just one inning. I think he threw like six pitches to get three outs, something like that, if I'm not mistaken. Six or seven pitches. So just a terrific all-around performance by the pitching staff, from top to bottom. And then you mentioned some guys, Chase Freire, like, off to a great start. At Guevara, off to a great start. Buck Terrell, off to a pretty good start there. So that's good to see. And, you know, if you're wondering about the first two games, well, I mean, I give Youngstown State, you know, their two starters are great. You know, they pitched well, I thought. And that first guy, I mean, he makes three pitches, and he kind of staggered them. And he brought in this big breaking ball that was just moving so well. It could throw it through strikes. It was just giving Auburn a lot of trouble. And I just don't think teams like Auburn or SEC teams see a lot of pitchers like that that throw, you know, not the 90-plus fastballs and a bunch of breaking balls. And sometimes you have to make an adjustment to that early in the season. But they certainly adjusted to it by game two Saturday and really started swinging those bats. Yeah, B-Man, you never know when the starting pitcher for Youngstown State may be Greg Maddox. You never know. You never really do. Always enjoy the conversation. Big week for basketball. I know you've got that covered. Tell us the baseball schedule. Football practice will begin in spring here shortly. Where can we get online and get all the stuff? Yeah, it is about to really pick up once football practice gets going. But baseball has Cincinnati, which is a really good team. I think they've won both their games. Or I don't know if they played a third game against, was it South Alabama or Jack State? I can't remember. But, yeah, and then they're coming to Auburn Tuesday. I would expect a real fight there. And then Auburn goes to Arlington this weekend. They've got Kansas State, Florida State, and Louisville out there. So there should be two or three really competitive games for them. Good early test. They went there last year and won two of three. And I thought that was a really great test for them to help prepare them for SEC players. So it should be a good weekend of baseball out there in Arlington, Texas. Got it all covered there at auburnsports.com. Brian, thanks so much for your time today. The developer behind a solar panel farm proposal in Stockton is still continuing forward with their plan, despite the growing resistance from community members. Silicon Ranch is based out of Nashville and plans to invest $300 million in the 4,500-acre site near Stockton. Silicon Ranch currently owns and operates 200 projects in 18 states as well as Canada. The co-founder, Reagan Farr, was not able to attend the recent community meeting where Baldwin County residents showed up by the hundreds in opposition to this proposal. However, Farr did say he wants to talk with the residents of that area to clear up misconceptions about the company and where exactly this solar farm will be located, which he says will not be in the wetland area. Farr says that normally Silicon Ranch speaks to the community directly before public projects are announced, but he said that the Alabama Public Service Commission made the filing without input from his company on how to address concerns coming from the residents. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Redbeard. Thank you so much for giving us free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Baby, we mentioned the UNA baseball team at the brand new stadium. If you're looking to get out of the house this week, looks like it's going to be some doggone good weather. UNA has a week-long, if you will, home cooking. In fact, tomorrow, they will be taking on UAB at 3 o'clock. Then on Wednesday, taking on Murray State at 3 o'clock. And then Friday, you guessed it, starting at 3. The first of 3 with St. Louis, all at the brand new Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium. So, BB, plenty to keep you busy this week. And, again, looks like the weather's going to be good. Well, thank God the weather is, because we've had a rough winter. But you're right. You couldn't pick a better week to go see some baseball. Can't pick a better way to lead off the second hour than saying hello to Brett Greenberg. He is the recruiting guru for Ballot 24-7 at, you guessed it, 24-7 Sports. Brett, welcome in. How are you? Good, guys. Appreciate you having me on, like you said. Hey, man. Whole lot better weather for some good college baseball around the country. Brett, obviously, you mentioned that quickly. Alabama, a very interesting opening weekend themselves. Everybody thought, well, this team coming in from Washington State, they're going to be a pushover. And guess what? They made the Crimson Faces look crimson in that opening game. They rebounded nicely Saturday and Sunday. You never, in college baseball, it's a box of chocolates, is it not? Absolutely. You never know. And I will, you know, caution this to Alabama fans. Yeah, it was kind of a rough start to the season. It was an 8-4 loss to come back with 8-1 win, 11-1 win. I believe it was in seven innings in the doubleheader on Saturday. But also, I mean, they weren't the only SEC program to lose. Florida loses their opener, I believe. Andy lost on Sunday. Jordan lost as well. So, things are moving. They're always moving. And there can be a loss at any point. There's good players everywhere across the country. Man, it's a marathon, not a sprint when it comes to baseball. Brent, let's switch gears. A recruiting guru. Talk to us about, first of all, the latest pickup, again, junior college, All-American, wide receiver, Tyler Henderson, coming over from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. I believe they had a guy back in the day that did pretty well from that place. I just asked Lane Kiffin when he was at Tennessee. Your thoughts about the latest and Alabama picking up folks from places that a lot of folks thought they never would. Yeah. And it kind of goes back to, I'm glad you brought up that last point. It goes back to what I've said over and over here on the radio and on Bama247 and social media and different avenues. The staff is continuing to build the roster. Staffs across the country are doing so. Jumping from 85 scholarships to 105 scholarships. You've got to fill out this roster. And certainly, wide receiver was a point of focus. You looked at maybe, I believe it was kind of a month ago, a month plus. Alabama had five scholarship guys in the room. That's right. It wasn't cut it. The top of the top, those five, they're good. They're very talented. They're experienced. You've got Darren Morgan included in that. But you had to bring in more guys. They're up to 11 total in the room with the newest addition of Tyler Henderson, six foot, 175 plus pounds coming over from, like you said, Mississippi. Gulf Coast Community College was an All-American last fall, 67 catches, 13, just under 1,300 yards, 12 touchdowns as a sophomore. So a guy with multiple years of eligibility and a guy that you could maybe, maybe more viewed in the scout team and depth chart, depth piece for right now. But who knows when, in the 2027 season, or 27 season, excuse me, and beyond. So it's another guy that you continue to add to the roster there. Alabama, like I said, the staff's continuing to build out the roster. 105 scholarships. That's a lot of bodies. Brad, let me ask you about another position. And particularly inside linebacker, Alabama lost a combined 1,800 snaps from Deontay Lawson, Justin Jefferson, and Hill Green. Now, they brought in Caleb Woodson, who's got a lot of experience, nearly over 1,200 snaps. And the potential for Caden Jones, QB Reese, Luke Matts, Duke Johnson is off the charts. But again, they've got limited experience. Alabama, as you mentioned, did a very good job of filling out the receivers. Do you anticipate Alabama may be adding at least one more inside linebacker? Well, it's tough to say right now. I think it's a very fair point to be asked. But I will say, and like I've said, you know, these guys that are getting added over the last couple weeks, several weeks, you know, especially at the wide receiver position, the more depth pieces. So I don't know if they're going to add someone that has a potential immediate impact. But yeah, it's one of those positions where I don't know if it was a head-scratcher or just kind of more of a proof of this staff likes what they have in the room. You bring in a Caleb Woodson, who you presume to be your starter. They love the potential of QB Reese, who's a redshirt sophomore. Caden Jones, like you mentioned, a junior. Duke Johnson, who I believe appeared in, if not all, a majority of the games, whether that be primarily a special team. But there's a lot to like there. You've got Luke Metz. You've got Abdul Sanders. So the room is talented and, like you said, not a whole lot of experience. I think there's going to be a lot of attention on that position room among a couple others in the spring. It's going to be nice to see how it shakes out. But like I said, kind of at the top of that response, I'm not sure if they're going to add more bodies. And if they do, it's not going to be kind of a guy that you would think is going to come beat right away. Xavier Griffin's another guy as well, the number one linebacker in the country coming in as an early enrollee. There's a lot of potential with him as well. So a lot of moving pieces across the roster and certainly still at the inside linebacker position. I think I saw mention to Mitchell there, his mama said he's already gained 18 pounds since he got to Tuscaloosa. Brett Greenberg, Bama 24-7. Brett, to me, we look at all these numbers and it's great to get to four or five stars. Nobody's going to turn them down. But what's more refreshing to me is the attitude that goes with it. And I bring up Trent Seaborn's name. And to me, he is a very interesting young man. He is going to go down probably as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, high school kid in terms of accomplishments of all time. But the point I'm trying to make here is, and you're closer to the upper center than we are. He said, look, I'm shutting you down. I'm not taking any more visits. I'm going to spend that time coming to Tuscaloosa. And I'm going to start recruiting, doing my part, to build a class around me. I know that room is full of four and five stars, in this case, five stars. But you've got to love this kid's attitude. If a coach had that kind of attitude through 105 on that roster, with that much potential, how could you not win? Absolutely. Trent's a kid that is, like you said, could go down as, if not one of the best, the best guys in the state of Alabama. Just pure accomplishments. Already got state championships, won a five with 10,000 plus yards. He's got a whole season to go. I joked with him recently about that. Like, he's still got a whole year to go to add on to those accolades. But this is a kid that kind of, you know, it's not shocking to hear him say he's shut down. Now, other heavy hitters are going after him like he wasn't. He's not committed to Alabama. You're dealing with a Miami and Oregon who, quite frankly, and you guys know better, have more money than Alabama. That's right. You've got to say it in this day and age. This is a kid who absolutely loves Alabama. Grew up very close to a Tunga Viola family. He deals with Tunga's dad, Nalu, and training almost weekly now in the offseason. A kid who was over at Alabama this weekend. And I got a lot of questions. Hey, is this an official visit? Is this an unofficial visit? No, he's just going up there to hang out with his buddies, go watch some Alabama baseball, and then stay there, stay on campus, and go watch some Alabama basketball. Let's talk with him about it. He's like, hey, I'm going to be there every single weekend. His official visit is set for June 12th through June 14th. But told me, like you said, he's going to be up there every single weekend helping out recruiting. And even when he's not on campus, I talk to guys, whether it's another quarterback in Elijah Haven, who Trent Seaborn is all in on adding, which should tell you everything you need to know. It could be a defender out in California. He's hearing from Trent Seaborn. The Trayvon Hall, Oklahoma wide receiver commit, who plays his high school ball at Central Tuscaloosa, which is a five-minute trip to campus, if not less. He's telling me, hey, Trent was giving me a little bit of c***. Hey, why are you committed to the students? So it's very, very special, not only the talent, but the way he carries himself. And this is a kid who turned down offers to go play elsewhere, even in high school. I mean, we're not going to speed or bound up much there. That was made public. So it's very, very impressive what he's doing. And it's kind of similar to a Ryan Williams, the way he came in and was helping recruiting. He was an extension of a recruiting staff. Trent Seaborn is that. And then some, he was telling me a couple months ago as well, he's talking with position coaches. Hey, who do you want me to reach out to? I've got number one interior offensive lineman, Maxwell Hiller, who's considered Alabama and Florida to be kind of neck and neck for him right now. He's hearing from Trent Seaborn all the time. They're excited about building that relationship. He's just a kid who's looked up very highly, not only in the state with all the accolades, like you mentioned before, but also around the country. He's getting his hands in. He's getting in the ears of multiple, multiple guys. So it's extremely impressive. You have got a list of the official visits coming up May 28th. Anthony Sweeney from Maryland, Antoine Jackson from Memphis. We can go on down the list. That's going to be critical because, again, that's going to be official visits. And then these guys making decisions in June. There's a lot of talent. I know we've talked about that, Brad, in the last couple weeks for 2027 in the state of Alabama. Junior James at Thompson, Deshaun Hall at Prattville. And we'll be talking with you about these guys in the weeks to come. But you've been on top of the 2027 dudes, and that is now beginning to come into play. The great stuff, as always, we always enjoy the conversation, whether it's a JUCO committee or prospects for 2027. You've got it covered. But where can we get online and get all the good stuff? Yeah, well, I always appreciate the kind words. You guys do a good job of plugging my stuff on the beginning. But like I said, over at Bambu247, and like Brett said, we've got a full list of official visits that's seemingly growing by the day, by the second, really. Spring visits are going to start, spring practice, I believe. We haven't got an official date yet, but usually kind of that first week to March range is going to win Alabama will get on the field. So that's going to be here before we know it. They're going to have tons and tons of recruits, recruits, and top targets and commits on campus. And so we're going to continue to track all that on Bambu247 and over on Twitter, at Brett Remerters. I feel like the odd man out here. I mean, the battle of the Brits. Mr. Baird wins that battle. There we go. Hey, have a great week, and thanks again so much for your time today. Absolutely, guys. Always a good time. Happy to be out here. Thank you, Doug. We'll come back in quickly before we check in with the V-Man, Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore in Apocalypse Now. A bad day, baby. Robert Duvall passing away at the ripe young age of 95. A tremendous actor, Lonesome Dove. I mean, you could list about seven or eight other ones, but he was a tremendous actor, and from what I hear, an even better person. Ah, the Godfather, part one, part two. Mr. Rara's been there on the marquees all over Knoxville. He drives you to work there mornings on 99.1 FM in Knoxville, Tennessee, and on the Ball Radio Network. V-Man, welcome in. How are you? I am good, guys. I thought for sure you were going to make an easy transition from The Godfather to Vince Ferrara in Knoxville with his Italian background. Well, it was calming. It was calming. You cut me short every minute. It was calming, you know, so you read my mind. Thank goodness you stopped it there. All right, V-Man, let's get the party started here. What's the latest on Judge Judy and Joey Aguilar? Yeah, I don't think Judge Judy had any connections to Tennessee, so I'm not sure she would have been presiding over this court case. It was, you know, first of all, it was exhausting just reading about it. So it reminds me why I don't normally track these sort of things. You know, you have to be up on what's going on because everybody's asking about it. So you dig into it. But my gosh, how horrible to be on a regular beat. It's like politics. Like, who wants that to be their existence? You know, bringing up all this, you know, lawyers are bringing up all this minutiae, trying and stretching to bring these things up and find one little thing here, and then the judge has to shoot down and interrogate about every single point. There really has nothing to do with what the ultimate purpose of it is. I will say this. It was a little surprising that it wasn't more focused on the JUCO rule. I think that's what the Pavia, when Aguilar was with Pavia, that's what it was more about. But they took more of the, hey, he's being deprived of the market value because of this rule and because he's not granted eligibility of being able to make $2 to $4 million that he should be. And so it's obviously different than the Trinidad-Chambliss situation because Chambliss had some medical aspect of it that the NCAA didn't really recognize during, you know, all the processes after their original ruling. Aguilar doesn't have that necessarily, but everyone is connected, you know, to that. Even the NCAA lawyer, you know, is a Tennessee guy. And they're all talking love about Joey Aguilar, really appreciation, all this kind of stuff. But the judge was very strong and direct in first saying that, you know, that would not impact any sort of ruling. But then also in interrogating and questioning the, you know, the lawyer for Joey Aguilar in the situation with some tough questions that, you know, there weren't always the clear answers to, like, what the exact market value. I don't know why that is such a big deal, whether it's $2 million or $2.5 million. Should he play or should he not play? It's all just crazy. So I don't know which way it's going to go. It's probably 50-50. But it's just we got all this information in them, and they're going to rule in short order. Probably I would guess this week, but who knows. I don't know that it took, you know, one drastic stance or lean one way or the other. I'm with you, V-Man. I had a lawyer one time tell me I had a question about some settlement. He said, look, whether you take $2 million or $0.02, in the eyes of the law, you took a settlement. You took money. So technically, it doesn't matter how many zeros you put in front of it. So, V-Man, the question is, what does Tennessee do if they do? What does Tennessee do if they don't, given the green light? Well, if he gets the injunction and he's able to play, first of all, he wouldn't be able to participate in spring practice because he had the surgery to remove a blood clot. And so he's going to be, he would be out for spring, but still be able to, you know, bottomless teammates and, you know, things like that. He would be the starting quarterback for Tennessee. I don't, I don't, I don't care how they present it. I think he would be the starting quarterback. If he's not there, then it's a competition between George McIntyre, the second year player, retro freshman and true freshman, five-star phase on Brandon, McIntyre would be the favorite in that battle. But I think Brandon, from a physical standpoint, is more prepared to sustain in the SEC. But from the mental standpoint of having a year in the system already, the advantage goes to McIntyre. And there have been really positive, you know, feedback on how he has done and how he has looked in our eyes and practices as well. So we'll see. The biggest question with McIntyre is, is he so slender? He's probably even thinner than Nico was, you know, when he was at this point in his career. But even though he's adding weight, that's the thing, is can you sustain? But in terms of able to function and trust in it, yeah, I think McIntyre would be the guy. They'd have to roll with it, because I don't think it's going to be Ryan Stobb or the true freshman. That's just not typically a recipe for success. V, one thing we do know, Derrick Jones is the new cornerback coach replacing Michael Hunter Jr., who went to the Rams. V, what do you know about him? Yeah, I think he is, under the circumstances, he's a good hire. He worked with Jim Knowles at Duke, and they, you know, also worked under David Cutcliffe. They have experience from Oklahoma State as well. And so, you know, he's coached guys in the NFL, both in special teams, Jamison Crowder, who was a star at Duke, and a number of other cornerbacks that have made it to the National Football League. So, under the circumstances of finding a guy that can fill the role of helping coach the players and ease that transition with a complicated defense, which is what Hunter had that familiarity there. I think that's a real positive that you have a guy with 25 years of coaching experience under his belt that was just in the game until they had coaching changes at Virginia Tech and was available for you. So, it happened so fast. To me, it tells me that Jones was on the list high somewhere behind Michael Hunter, and under the circumstances, I think they did well to come up with him. You know how fans are. You know, they want their former Vols and things like that, but I think he's a good hire for doing it, and getting it done quickly helps, too. B-Man, 99.1, the sports animal in Knoxville. It's hard to believe, less than two weeks, the beginning of technically March Madness. Where is this Tennessee basketball team right now getting ready for the postseason? Well, if you listen to fans talk about them sometime, you would think they have, like, Oklahoma or South Carolina's record. You know, they haven't been destroying teams, so they've just kind of been doing whatever it takes to win, and because there haven't been the style points necessarily, and they've played some maybe closer games. I think that has frustrated some fans that expected more, but they're getting what everyone was looking for, and that's a third score in J.P. Estrella. Ever since he's come into the starting lineup, they've played well. I think they've only lost once. So they've got Gillespie who can score, Nate A-Man is continuing to play well and draw fouls. Not sure there's anyone, not very many people in the SEC that draw more fouls than Nate A-Man. I think there's only a couple. And he makes us free throws, and he's a smart player. He's playing through contact despite, you know, slender size, but he continues to add weight. So I think it's encouraging. They give up another double-digit lead. I think fans of their own teams that give up double-digit leads are concerned about that, but there's also a lot of other teams that give up double-digit leads. And they've given up double-digit leads except for Kentucky. That's the only team that they haven't come back on. Other teams they've given up double-digit leads to, they've still ended up winning. So, you know, they're still trying to figure some things out and get better. But I do think that if the offense of efficiency continues to improve, they're going to be there in a position to be a top-four team in the SEC tournament, which is ultimately what you want with a double-by. Absolutely. And Tennessee gets off to a good weekend, as you well know. to open the season in baseball, be it sweeping nickels, including 12-2, 7-run a game. V, always good to talk to you, buddy. Where can we get online to get all the V's good stuff? Yeah, I appreciate it. The softball team is as dominant as anyone. They're the new number one team in one of the polls. You can find them on all the socials at Vince Sports, V-I-N-C-E, sports. Be careful with those horses to add your bed up there, okay, V-Man? Absolutely. You guys be careful, too. See you, bud. Hey, man, Vince Rara, quickly, baby, before we get off, your thoughts quickly in 10 seconds. Alabama saying goodbye, Ohio State, with a new situation coming up in sports. Well, again, for the fans who wanted the big non-conference game, that would not be good news. Yeah. What about some Olympics? Right ahead, the very latest from over there, here on 93.9 The Score. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. If you are a high school basketball fan, welcome to Christmas in February. I think Zach Pounders might agree with that. Zach's busy there at the Shoals Sports Report. Zach, welcome in. How are you? Doing good, how are y'all? Are you ready to go rocking with the regionals? And one thing about it, we can't argue with the weather. It's looking good on the drive in the greater Shoals area down to Hanceville this week. Your thoughts, where do you start in breaking it down, Zach? I start in 3A Girls and Boys. Starting out Wednesday morning at Wallace, 3A Girls, Marteal, and then Marteal Boys, and then Lardot County Girls and Boys. I expect Marteal Girls to win handily. I think Lardot County Girls have a tougher matchup. With Vindemont. And Marteal County Boys have a local sport. But Marteal Boys have an interesting matchup with Winfield, who is always solid every year. And knows, has been to Austin before, knows what takes to get to Wallace. And Marteal and Winfield have a little bit of a history in the playoffs. With basketball and football the last couple of years also. So many of the guys that have played in those games over the last few years. A little bit of added energy also. So who knows how those go. But then it goes to 4A on Wednesday night with Wilson, Brooks, and Deschler. Yeah, we'll talk about Wilson in a few minutes about making history. Let me ask you about one of the hottest teams. And you've seen these guys quite a bit, and particularly in the last month, Brooks Boys. Six consecutive wins, 14 out of 16. They beat Haleville 57-234. Parker Mertz, freshman, is really playing well. Had a career high. 21 points. Miles Warren hit 12 points. 11 rebounds, 10 are Bowens. And at 10, Brooks Boys playing pretty well right now. Brooks versus Wes Morgan Wednesday at 430. Yeah, this area draw for Brooks and Deschler girls, Brooks Boys and Deschler girls, the area champions, is rough this year. Ironically, I know if you're almost better off losing the area championship game and getting the two-seed, go on the road, risking a loss on the road to celebrate the round and get the loss that way because Brooks plays Wes Morgan. Deschler girls get good hope for the sixth straight year at Wall Street, which is insane on semi-levels. But that Miles Warren stat line, I do want to point out, all those points in the second half, so it wasn't like he had six in the first half or four in each half. He had all 12 in the second half. Haleville kind of played the game of anybody but him. And their girls did the same thing with Wilson the other night. Avery Darby had nine points, probably one of her season high on the season, or something around that range. But playing that, not anybody but them strategy can win you games and also lose you games because Parker Murray also could go off. Aaron Bowles went off for Brooks. They're not. So Miles didn't have to do it by himself. And with Brooks Boys, it's Westmore's first. Westmore has athletes. They beat Deschler last year in the third regional round. And they played Brooks in the Elite Eight last year at Wallace. So you get a Sweet 16 game of the Elite Eight Northwest boys from last season. But Deschler boys have a tough test at East Lawrence. Also, it's not the same East Lawrence team that was playing in November, December. Bryce Young, the quarterback in the NFL, he's a sophomore, 6'3", 180-ish or whatever. They keep playing football, too. But he's come back, and they're 8-4 since he's been back. They were 4-12 when he was injured. And since he's been back, they're now like 12-16 or something. But he doesn't make a difference for them. It has size. That gives them an advantage also. Zach Piner's show, Sports Report, you mentioned Wes Morgan. That's just a heck of a program. I don't care what size or shape the ball is. But the reason to bring that up, we sit here and a lot of these teams, it's almost, if it's February, you know they are in. They're perennial powerhouses. I've always had fun with the folks through the first time. And let's talk about the Wilson girls. Correct us if we're wrong on this, Zach. But the Wilson girls, they knock off Haley will buy a bucket, 40-38. The reason that is significant, the folks have to be on fire because this is the first time the Wilson girls are headed to its first regional tournament in history. You can correct us if we're wrong on that. But what a story for the Wilson girls. Yes, that is correct. But also, it's the first time in Wilson basketball history, boys or girls, to beat a Wallace. And it's the first time in this current format also. Not in 1990 was the last time they went this far, but that was the old format. This is the new format, it's 94. So, first time for that school to be this far in the playoffs. And I expect them to travel with the best of them on Wednesdays. I wouldn't be shocked to see Wilson have more people there than Mars Hill, Lardot County, Dessler, or Brooks. No disrespect to all those, but we know those travel well. And if you were following Wilson softball last year, their area and regionals, Wilson traveled well with softball last year, even though it was more localized. But it was like 10 of all at night in the area championship game for softball last year. There were still teachers there, other coaches of other sports. Just a really good community support system at Wilson. And the coach at Wilson, Eric Oakley, one of the best areas in the area. High respect all around for him from other coaches and just in the area. Really could have happened to a better person also. Yeah, you have mentioned Wilson two or three times this winter. As far as I'm like you, I'm excited for them. In fact, that's one of the games, 93-9, is going to be covering the Muscle Shoals boys win. They beat Gardendale 78-61. Keevy Foster, a very good defensive back, who was going to Arkansas, but now going to Troy. Plays pretty good basketball, too, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Muscle Shoals 19-8. Your thoughts on Muscle Shoals going to, after beating Gardendale, how far can they advance in Wallace? I always say once you get above 4-8 basketball, 5-8 to 7-8 basketball, it's a whole different game. Because they're all bigger, faster, and stronger than at the 4-8 level. So, Muscle Shoals, particularly Huntsville, who was the, I want to say, area champion out of the Hazel Green and Buckhorn area. So, a good Huntsville area team. And I always say this, too, about Wallace State. You can average 50 points a year or 70 points a season. When you get to Wallace, none of that matters. It's already neutralized. And you can score 15 points. You can score 25 points. And I've seen teams get down there averaging 50 in the season and winning scoring 25 points a game or winning in the 60s. You really look at how well you defend and how well you weather the storm of the different environment and the runs of the game. Not to mention, all of a sudden, everything's new. The environment, the shooting angles, the backgrounds, the whole nine yards. Not to mention the adrenaline as well. Zach Pounder's show sports report. This area is on fire when it comes to girls, is it not, Zach? Let's talk about, and we're blessed here at 93-9, the score to be kind of the headquarters to bring you action if you can't make it down in person. Coming up on Wednesday, you get the ball rolling at noon with the Florence girls taking on another. We know what they can do in football. Ask the Florence High football team. Your thoughts about the Florence girls taking on Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Wednesday at noon. Yeah, Florence is actually Friday at noon. Friday at noon, I'm sorry. Yeah, you're good. It all runs together for me, too. Don't worry. But Florence girls, though, play at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa for the second straight year at Wallace. Hillcrest is a new coach. And I think they lost a few players from last year. Florence did, too, but Florence also reloaded this all season. And Florence has a group of girls that have been there once before last year, had the weather delay last year, the fire alarm going off at halftime, at the end of halftime. So you had an extended halftime. However, they've been there before now. Coach Woods has been there to Wallace as a player and a coach. She played at Deschler in, like, 2004 to 2008 and won, like, four straight state championships, I think. So she's been there plenty of times. She knows what it's like. She knows how to lock them in and how to hit them weather the storm of a run here, a run there, or a cold stretch of the game. However, Florence does have this. They are a defensive team who will get steals, and you'll see on the box score three or four steals for two or three girls. However, they're also a streaky team on shooting. If they're on grade, if they're not, they're going to have to defend. Trini McCroskey can rebound. Diamond Chandler can rebound. But they need to hit shots also. Jordan Riggs, I think, has to start fast on Friday, and they have a good chance. If she starts slow, like she did against James Clemens, I don't know how she will weather the storm and be in there for the first time. Come from Carpenter County this all season. But Coach Wood has been there before. Most of the Florence team has been there as well. It shouldn't be nothing new for them. Zach, I'm proud you said that to make sure that we're clear on that. Florence again Friday at noon. Wednesday, Wednesday, you're on 9-3-9. The score is going to be a busy day. And I love the way they do this because it's rare to have one sit with its boys or girls to make it. But when both do it, why not schedule it to where basically they can go back-to-back for the fans? 9 o'clock, Hollypun-Mars Hill, 10-30. Of course, if things go as scripted, it's the Mars Hill boys taking on Winfield. And then at noon, the Lauderdale County girls with Vinemont. And then follow that with the Lauderdale County boys against Locust Fort. That's a lot to digest there, but your thoughts about those matchups in 3A play? Yeah, 3A girls. I think the story to watch for 3A girls is Belle Hill. And what can she do at Wallace? I guess not in Lauderdale County this year. She had 43 last year against Lauderdale County and got B. However, she has help this year with Molly Wright and Mia Humphreys, who can both give her about 10 points a game also. So, if she can have her, she's going to have 20 at least every night. Her and Reese Davis are a couple of the players that you can almost guarantee they're going to get their 20, 25 points a night. And we're going to get around them to benefit them as well. But with Lauderdale County, it's kind of like last year boys, there is that one or two defined scores, but they have a few scores that can give you 8 or 10 points a game and come out of nowhere. Claire Freeman has had double digit points the last two games and didn't have double digits either all regular season or not back-to-back games all regular season long. By the way, congratulations to the Russellville girls. I know we've talked about Ella Copeland in her record-setting year. She scored 26 points as Russellville beat Sardis 72-62 to reach their first regional, Jack, if I'm correct, in 16 years. They haven't been since 2010. And we talked about Wilson, how historic that he is. Congratulations to the Russellville girls. Yeah, if you kind of say that Wednesday is a show of takeover of Wall Street, basically. Yeah, you did. The only thing for Lauderdale County coming down there, basically, essentially, is Brooks, L.C., Marth Hill, and Wilson. Yeah, Russellville, also, another good season, though. And getting back to Wall Street, a whole lot as well. Ella Copeland's one of those. She's going to give you 20 a night. And at Wall Street, you never know how it's going to change. And since she's been there for the first time in 16 years, how can Russellville weather the storm of, different environment, different depth perception and all that. They get Gunnersville at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Gunnersville's the top two team in 5'8". They have the freshman girl who's like 6'4", I think, or 6'5", as a freshman. She's averaging, I want to say 20 or a double-double at least, and a couple blocks to fill the game at the freshman. And it's already 6'5". So, we think Bell Hill is great. Bell is like 6'1", or 6'3", I think. This girl is 6'5", as a freshman, and just a dominant over there. Wow. Yeah, it's crazy. But, yeah, Russell, a tough matchup. But at Wallace, you never know. That girl's a freshman. When you get to Wallace, it's all neutralized, and the lot's going to be too bright. Well, the strategy on that 6'5", try to get her in foul trouble early. That would be the strategy if I was a coach there. But your thoughts, we mentioned Wilson first time, and Marcelle is on the flip side of that, but the Dester program as well. Your thoughts, I mean, everybody's already got Dester penciled in with girls. The boys are also there. Your thoughts about Dester's chances on both sides? You can't pencil the girls in yet. They have good hope first. And they've played six straight years, and I went and found this the other night. Neither team has won three straight years against each other other than this matchup. I think Dester, or one of them, won the first year. And I think Dester won the next two years, and good hope was one of the last two. I think it was Dester the first one or the first two. Good hope was one of the last two. So, six straight years, also a lot of years back-to-back-to-back. I almost assure you, both teams have spent all season tracking each other and scouting each other, knowing, if you both get to Wallace, how it should be. It's going to be us through first game. And I wish they would re-see the Wallace, honestly, based off a record. Because Brooks Westmoregan, Dester, good hope, and a few more matchups across the state are going to happen, where it's basically a state championship game in the 2016 early day instead of at Birmingham. But you've got to play them at some point anyways. And Dester, always, they have our hit or miss all season. They've had games where you think this team can go to Birmingham. They've had games where you think this team is not going to pass their regionals. They escaped Fayette County Saturday night, had a two-point lead with 13 seconds to go. And Fayette has the ball. They're hitting threes. But again, a steal, Dester got a steal, and got a bucket at the last second to go up by four and went by four. However, Garrett Reed, this team knows that he goes and Everett Mishu is like a Klay Thompson to his Steph Curry. And Everett had 15, Saturday night. Garrett had 30. Garrett's been to Wallace before. And I think a few more have been to Wallace as a freshman or sophomore, may not have played. But the cue of this team is most of them have played baseball, football playoffs, basketball playoffs at high-level reps. Everett has one state as an individual tennis player. Garrett has one state in baseball. Jay Murner has one state in baseball. And a few more have. And they've all had these playoff runs and playoff games. So I don't think the lights are too bright for them. They thrive off of competition and competitive environments. So it's not going to be like the lights are too bright. It's going to be like this is what they want and what they play for every year. It's to be at Wallace, not to be sitting on a baseball dugout bench this week. Great point. The experience going to Wallace really helps. In fact, Garrett Reed may be the best three-sport athlete I've seen in years, averaging 29 points in three playoff games. We really appreciate you coming on because you're going to be really busy Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. And we're going to be carrying a lot of the games throughout the rest of the week. I know beginning tomorrow, especially Wednesday, you're going to be previewing the games. You're going to be having probably a podcast if you've got the time at night to recount. Where can we get on live and get all the great stuff? Yeah, we have a regional preview dropping tomorrow at some point with comments from the coaches involved, all we can get. And then just like basic previews of the game, then on Wednesday night we're going live after all the games to recap them, all eight games. And then on Thursday night we'll go live again and Friday as well at some point after the ball is going to go live and recap. And they'll also preview whatever is left of all the state games after this weekend, assuming we get something in the early day on this week. Yeah. But on Facebook, Shell Sports Report and Twitter at lowercase s-h-o-a-l-s-b-o-r-t-s. And we cross-post on both. So if you have a Twitter account, you can turn on post notifications on Twitter on our account and it will give you a notification on ESPN app does or whatever app does to your phone.
