Blake Lovell of Southeastern 16 will preview a big weekend of SEC basketball. Zach Pounders of the Shoals Sports Report previews postseason play for our local boys and girls high school basketball teams. And Brett is here right now to tell us about a big junior day visit weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It's an absolute pleasure for us to welcome in Brett Greenberg. He is the man there, Bama 24-7, part of the 24-7 sports family. Brett, welcome in. How are you today? Good, guys. Appreciate you having me on. Hey, thank you so much. Loaded, loaded junior day coming up. So, it's all right. Without further ado, let's just jump right in. Obviously, these days have always been interesting, but in the day of the portal, and a lot of us are concerned about some of the direction of high school recruits because now they can plug and play guys who've got more age and more experience. But be that as it may, it's going to play itself out. Let's talk about what is in front of us. Talk to us about junior day in Tuscaloosa. Yeah, I think, you know, you kind of mentioned it right there. One thing that this staff and Alabama is going to continue to do is heavily recruit the high school level. I think you see some other programs that are heavily leaning into the portal. Alabama continuing to put a lot of stock at the high school level. And it was funny, Alabama set to host their junior day this week and was doing a little bit of research, look back, you know, what were the kind of the returns of last year's junior day? Seven eventual signees in the 2020 class, which finished number three overall were on campus. Talk about Xavier Crowell, Sidarian Morgan, Jordan Edmonds, Kamarian Johnson, Jamarian Matthews, Chris Booker, Zion Gibson. So these are guys that got to campus, were very, very comfortable, and a lot of those guys committed very early in the cycle and didn't budge. So this is a very, very big weekend heading into what will be a month-long dead period where recruits will start to kind of sort out their final, you know, three, four, five schools that they want to take visits in the spring. And then also eventually for official visits in the summer before, probably a lot of decisions will be made. But to get into this list, it starts with, you know, the big fish, if you will, number one quarterback in the country, number two overall prospect, Elijah Haven, six foot four, 220 plus, the state champion, heck of a basketball player out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The guy I've submitted a crystal ball prediction in November, just coming off his two trips for the third Saturday, October, and also being in town for LSU game last November as well. So continue to hear very, very good things about where Alabama stands, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, also in the fold. He'll get to Auburn on Sunday, February 1st, before what I believe to be as a mid-February commitment. I know a lot of people may be wondering what's the move from Nick Sheridan going on to Michigan State because he was a big staple on a lot of recruitments. Keelan Russell, Jet Tamala, Elijah Haven brought him up a lot as well, have confirmed, you know, nothing's changed there as far as the interest goes. So a lot, a lot of momentum and crimson tights favor going into the trip and it doesn't really stop there as far as number one ranked prospects. You got number one ranked receiver, Montwin Sales out of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ohio State, Indiana, Miami, Alabama, kind of at the top. You've heard a lot for a long time, Alabama, Indiana, Ohio State, kind of the three teams looking at the top. There was at Indiana for, I believe, last weekend to see their national championship parade. So there's a lot to like with the Hoosiers there. But it's a kid who's originally from Birmingham, Alabama. I believe his nickname growing up was Bama. So there's a lot, a lot to like right there. And again, you're talking about kind of position coach changing. He had a relationship with Jamarcus Shepard, who ends up going to take the head coaching job, Oregon State. Derek Nix, who I've put on my board, I'm sure you guys have talked about it, has elite, elite recruiting experience in the southeast and all over. He was up and visited with Sales and his family earlier during the winter contact period. Caleb DeBoer was there. General manager, Courtney Morgan, was there. The junior day visit was set up. So it's a guy that continues to have very, very strong interest in the Crimson Tide. And I expect him to likely return in the spring and also for an official visit as well. So you got two number one ranked prospects at the respective position coming in that I confirmed late Thursday night. Number one cornerback, John Meredith, 6'2", maybe close to 6'3", is also supposed to be on campus. Looks like it's pretty much tied neck and neck with Alabama and A&M for the number six overall prospect in the country. And it's funny, man. You look at this staff and how they're going to recruit compared to Nick Saban. And I don't think they've missed a beat, but a lot of focus was on the secondary. They certainly haven't missed a beat there. You bring in Dijon Lee, Chuck McDonald, Jordan Edmonds, Zion Gibson. These are guys that are all ranked number one through five respectively in their respective cycles. So Alabama seems to be in a good position as any other program could be for John Meredith. And I know I kind of rambled right there, but those are the three big, big fish that are coming to town. Grant, let me ask you about offensive linemen. And that's one of the first places. I know the skill position players get a lot of the headlines, but Ismail Kamara from Gilmore, Texas, is considered to be one of the top five interior offensive linemen in the country. Kate Moss had a Jackson, Mississippi, all 6'5", 311 pounds of him, same way, top five in whatever service. Former Alabama commit, Jeteria Williams from Phoenix City, Alabama. Antonio Berry at Tupelo, Mississippi. And we could go on as far as linemen are concerned, but I know that's been a priority with Transfer Portal and others. But I tell you one thing, these linemen coming in are just been as impressive as the skill people. Yeah, absolutely. And it's kind of, I guess, sensitive theme here in this radio hit today. That's another position coach changed. They're obviously Alabama parts ways with Chris Kapilovich last week, all signs pointing to Adrian Clem, who brings a lot, a lot of experience at the NFL level, the college level. He's a very good recruiter, three-time Super Bowl champ. I believe he should be on campus this weekend, still working to confirm that. But Ismail Kamara, I believe, won't be making any more just with the coaching change. I don't think that's really going to affect things. I think Clem's going to be able to get in there and continue to bring Kamara back to campus in Alabama and be a major player. But it is nice to see. I think it's encouraging to see, like you said, Akay DeMoss, who's the number three offensive tackle. Torrey Williams, a former Alabama commit. Antonio Berry, one of the best in the state of Mississippi. These guys are still very interested in the Crimson Tide. And I think that kind of shows you all you need to know that, you know, they still have very strong interests. It's beyond what the position coach will be. It's going to be crucial this weekend. I think it's, you know, I don't want to put too much stock on it. It's not make or break. But if Clem is on campus, which, again, I expect it to be, they get along. That puts Alabama right back in the thick of things for these major, major, highly ranked recruits and monsters. And, again, like you said, perfectly offensive line has been a major, major point of focus. You know, you bring in five through the high school level. You bring in six through the transfer portal. So it's a complete, complete overhaul. I think a little bit of a reset. Kalen DeBoer mentioned that down in Mobile for the senior ball. It's a little bit of a reset at that position, which I think anybody who followed Alabama last year and even the year before is well warranted. I think that was to be expected. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Clems is announced before this big junior day. And the other thing, also, Brett, Brett Greenberg, by the way, about my 24-7, remember back in the day, first Wednesday in February was always it. It was the National Signing Day. And that's almost a natural thought. Be that as it may, it's hard to believe. But we've got another National Signing Day. It's almost been invisible coming up Wednesday, February 4th. Your thoughts about what Alabama may do on this second part of the National Signing Day coming up here next week? Yeah, so I think, again, with those transitional additions, you bring in 18. Alabama's also added two receivers from the high school level, and Maurice Mathis, who has been counting. Already on campus, signed, sealed, delivered. Alabama gets another in-state kid out of Moody, Alabama. Aubrey Walker, 5'10", 170-plus pounds. An absolute burner at 4.3. Official 40-yard dash. And he's a guy who's opposing defenses on his way to a state championship win for Moody. Confirm with him, he will be signing at Moody High School on Wednesday. Beyond that, there's not really many names to know right now, I think. And I've said it on the show the past couple times. I've said it on our boards and on social media as well. There could be some more names to pop up as this staff. And that's really across the country kind of get more used to the 105 scholarship limit, which is up 20 from the original 85. So there could be some more names to know, both at the JUCO level and at the high school level that could pop up over the next couple days. For right now, the biggest one to know is just Aubrey Walker, who it's always really cool, man. I think, you know, hey, he may not be the highest ranked, but again, you're not going to convince these guys to come in and be the wide receiver 8 or their offensive line 9. This guy who absolutely grew up loving the Crimson Tide. I was talking with him when Freddie Roach gave him that offer. He said he was holding back tears. I asked him what the moment's going to be like on Wednesday around his community, his teammates, his coaches. He said it's going to be impossible not to cry. So I think it's a – you're adding a very good talent who slipped through the cracks. I think you've seen that all through recruiting throughout the years. And a guy who wants to be there. He wants to be part of the Crimson Tide. He grew up cheering for them, asked them who his favorite receiver was growing up. He said Cal Ridley was his one, but then he lists, you know, Julio Jones, Devontae Smith, Jerry Judy. He just went on and on. So I think it's a very good add in Aubrey Walker. Alabama is right now number two in 24-7 in this 2026 class. I know in a few other services, they're certainly in the top five or in the top four. But that's rather impressive. Even in the transfer portal for 24-7, they're 16th. And we've talked about this with you as far as reinforcing the offensive line. Again, I think they've been able to do that with Nick Brooks, defensive line Terrence Green, Devon Topkins, Rayson Delgotti, Ty Hayward, Strayhorn from Michigan. Let me ask you, do you anticipate any other transfer portal additions, number one? And number two, the Tuscaloosa news coming out earlier this week in stating that Marion Latham, right now it looks encouraging that he is going to be able to return. That's nearly like getting a transfer portal addition right there. But what are you hearing about Latham in any additional transfer portal additions? Yeah, I think for right now, as far as transfer portal additions go, I think it's pretty much all but over. And it's funny, you know, you have that spring transfer portal window. That's been pretty nice to Alabama, I guess, towards the end of Nick Saban years just with Landon Dickerson. But that's no longer, I would argue, that that was one of the good things that the NCAA did. So I guess it's kind of fitting they end up taking it away. But as far as this cycle goes, I think most of the work is done. And, yeah, I think, you know, and I've been on here talking about retaining guys could be considered transfer portal additions. Marion Latham, who underwent neck surgery, looks encouraging. I know Tuscaloosa News, like you've mentioned, reported that he's going to be back. I believe Alex Garbrose shared a note on our Bama 247 site, was talking with Caelan DeBoer down at Mobile. Nothing finalized as of yet, but, yes, it's looking encouraging, and it's a guy that brings experience and another body to a room that, quite frankly, still needs all the bodies you can get. No question about that. Listen, great job, as usual. You've been on top of this, the transfer portal. And, again, as we've talked about, Lord, hard to believe it's time for another February National Signing Day. We'll see what happens with an early signing day down the road. We keep hearing about maybe summer. We'll see where that goes. You will have a list and, certainly, a lot more information about the Vistro list coming in for Junior Day. Brett, where can we get online, Twitter, all the good stuff about this weekend? Yeah, absolutely. Got a Junior Day hub up and running over at Bama 247 and compiling names over the last month or so. Just put out a full official preview just with kind of notes and tidbits of where Alabama stands going into the trip for most of these guys. And it's funny, man. I feel like that Junior Day of last year with Jordan Edmonds and David Griffin, all those guys, was like almost yesterday. So it moves quickly. Before we know it, there's going to be official visits being lined up. Already a handful of guys that have confirmed dates already for as early as late May. So it never really stops. And, again, wouldn't want to have it any other way. But, like I said, over at Bama 247, we've got full, full coverage. And give myself a follow at Brett Greenberg underscore on Twitter. Sounds great. Brett, listen, grab a jacket or two if the weather folks hit it this weekend. Let's do it again soon, okay? Absolutely, guys. You have a good weekend. Thank you, Brett. You too. All right, Brett Greenberg, you're going to be with us at Bama 247. You talked about Latham coming back potentially for a seventh season. To compare that with Aubrey Walker, the young man coming in from Moody. When Latham started in Alabama, Moody was probably in the fifth or sixth grade, BB. That kind of puts it in perspective, does it not? Coming up, a big weekend, a hot, cold in between on the hardwoods across the NCC. Blake Lovell on that and more straight ahead. Stay with us. It is an absolute pleasure for us to open the door and say hello to Blake Lovell. He's got it all covered at Southeastern 16. In other words, all 16 teams under one roof. Late Lovell, welcome in. How are you? Doing well, guys. Good to talk to you as always. Good, bud. Blake, what is it? Every Friday we talk to you, we talk, and then we either get snow, ice, or sub-zero temperatures. Is there a connection on Friday when we talk, and then on Saturday, here comes old man winter knocking it under. Is there a connection there, Blake? There's got to be something going on, because I'm about ready to move somewhere where it's 95 right now. Hey, don't go to Florida. It's just cold down here, too. It's all like global warming, I guess. Blake, obviously, it's going to be warm inside. Before we look ahead and see what is kind of an attractive matchup this weekend, your thoughts to date, is it safe to say the SEC is a box of chocolates? You never know what you're going to get this season. Yeah, that's what it feels like, because I think, again, every single team, probably outside of Texas A&M right now, is feeling like, hey, we have seen the good, and we've seen the not-so-good times. I think that really does apply to everyone. I mean, even Texas A&M, I don't think can really say that very much, because if you think about it, guys, they have one loss in SEC play, double overtime in Tennessee. They played really well there, and they've had two losses, period, since November the 14th, and both have been in overtime. So they have actually been the one constant, and they've been very consistent to this point. And everybody else has given us reasons to kind of doubt their ability sometimes when we get to March and figure out, do they actually have what it takes to win two or more games, to get to that second weekend and beyond. So I think that's going to be the biggest thing, and, you know, it's really why the SEC is so different this year than last year, whereas last year, you know, we had so much confidence in those top teams and their ability to kind of just consistently find ways to win. But this year, you're going to have a lot of these teams in that four to ten-feet range to where you get somebody with the wrong matchup, and any of these teams can be out in round one. So that's a big difference. Just to reiterate your point, I'm sitting here looking at the SEC standings as of yesterday, and teams one through 12, all but two of them have got a net from 12 to 40, which, again, putting that in English is good. Texas A&M, Arkansas, who's been – I think a lot of people thought they were going to be good, but they've been playing very well. We'll get into Alabama and Florida in a minute. Ole Miss has got a net of 86. Missouri's got one of 73. But there are nine teams in the SEC standings who are 40 and below in net rankings. Yeah, and that's why, like, even though it's easy to be more down on the SEC this year than last year, the numbers are still working really well in the SEC's favor when it comes to just, you know, where you want teams to be come tournament time. And that's why, I think, at worst, the SEC is probably going to wind up having nine teams in to the tournament because all these teams that are beating up on each other, their profiles are still pretty good. Now, again, you don't have those just elite, rock-solid profiles the way we had last year because the non-conference resumes, which you can't do anything about that right now, those just were not to the level they needed to be to get, you know, much closer to that, to where teams could afford having three or four losses and not dropping an extra seed line or two. Teams just kind of stayed the same last year. So I think that's the biggest difference. And so, for me, I think we're going to kind of find out here, as you start to look at teams, let's say, like, Texas and Missouri, even Georgia, I think Georgia's going to be fine. They should be able to find their way in. But, like, those are really the only teams that I kind of worry about when it comes to, if you're looking at a worst-case scenario for the SEC, let's say a number drop to eight, it's probably because Georgia's going to just fall off somewhere. Missouri, I think, still got a lot of work to do. Texas, who knows what you're going to get on night-in-night up for them. So I think that's why the SEC is still going to be fine, guys. It's just, again, going back to the, you're going to have a lot of teams probably in decent seed lines, but I just don't know if they kind of have that punch that we saw last year. Blake Lovell, Southeastern 16. Blake, the elephant in the room, pardon the pun, is what's going on in Tuscaloosa on the court and in the courtroom. Your thoughts, where are you now that we have a little more of an in-depth story and where it's going, where you think it's going to land, and the impact it has on a team. I mean, it's tough enough facing an SEC opponent week in and week out, but it's also tough sitting here, especially if you're a coaching staff. What are we going to do if this happens? What are we going to do if that happens? March Madness is right around the corner. Your thoughts about the Mediaco situation in Tuscaloosa? Yeah, I mean, the logistics of it all are just a mess. It's hard to know exactly. Again, like you said, if you're Nate Oates, you're trying to kind of get your team, at this point, you play 20 games, and you're trying to kind of get your team rounded into form for March, and you kind of know what you're looking at from an upcoming schedule standpoint. You've got three big games coming up at Ford on Sunday. You've got A&M next week, then you're at Auburn. So it's tough from that standpoint. Of course, it's also tough from the opposition standpoint, where you're looking up and saying, well, what do we need to be preparing for with Alabama? Because there's no question, like without Betty Oco, they are a different team. Like he brings an element that they just don't have on the roster. And so, yeah, how this thing plays out in the next week or two I think is maybe anyone's guess just based on how it's played out to this point, because I don't know that anyone thought that we'd be sitting here having this conversation right now. So I think it is kind of one where as long as he's on the floor, everybody can bring up the stuff about, well, the NCAA is going to make them vacate wins and all this other nonsense. No, they're not. I'm sorry. I just don't see that happening. I think the NCAA by no means is going to have any sort of significant control over doing something, because if they did, they would have already tried to do it now. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing. So I'm not buying that argument. But the thing is, guys, again, as long as he keeps playing, and if he were to be granted the opportunity to play for the rest of the season, I think it's an instant upgrade for Alabama, because you are looking at a team that I already thought had maybe as high of a ceiling as anybody in the SEC. That ceiling would be higher if they have someone like that. Alabama-Florida, one of the marquee games in the SEC Sunday, yes, Sunday at noon on ABC. With Bidiaco, Alabama played, I thought, their best defensive game against Missouri, and it helped that Wrightson was 7 out of 10 from three-point line. They played much better defense. Alabama's not been able to match up with Florida the last couple of years. With Bidiaco and maybe a little better defensive effort in shooting the three, do they match up a little bit better Sunday? Yeah, I think they do. And I think, again, it's just looking at Florida and knowing that you've got a frontcourt that's one of the best in the country. And I think when you just can add the element, and Amari Allen's absence has been felt, I think, for Alabama. Just seeing that pairing together, I think, is just kind of a fascinating thing for me. Just seeing what Amari Allen and Charles Bidiaco, what those guys can do together. To me, that's the biggest kind of question I have because I just think that pairing is such a dynamic potential pairing for Alabama that it can make all the difference in a game at Florida or beyond. And that's where, again, like we said, cooking in next week's games and how important they feel. So, yeah, I mean, he's just a game-changer, again, with Bidiaco because he has those elements, I think, that Alabama has struggled with the most. And that's where whether it's just, you know, interior defense, whether it's rebounding, those kind of things. Like, these are all important when you're playing a team like Florida. And I know, you know, the Gators kind of ran into a tough matchup with Auburn, but they came back, beat South Carolina, you know, by 47 or whatever. And I just think it's such a great matchup with these two because if Florida's going to win, you know, it may be because of the frontcourt, but they're going to have to get that backcourt, which has kind of been the most talked-about theme all year with the Gators. They've got to get them consistent going up against one of the best backcourts out there that Alabama has. So, yeah, it's a great matchup, guys. I'm glad the SEC does this, to be honest with you, putting a game like this on a Sunday in between the, you know, the championship games and the Super Bowl. So, I kind of like seeing a spotlight on these two games. And I don't think you could ask for a better matchup this year, to be honest with you. Like you mentioned Auburn, obviously, who's had a better week than the Tigers? Your thoughts about this weekend's matchup with UT? Yeah, I mean, Auburn's playing well. And I think the defense has been the biggest difference. I know they gave up 82 to Texas, but they are getting closer to playing more, you know, 35 to 40-minute type games defensively. And I think that's what you have to do, because their offense is so good. And, you know, I think that's going to be the key on Saturday. Tennessee is playing better offensively right now. Like, they're a team that I think has figured some things out. Nate Amen has played a lot better. Jacoby Gillespie, the first-team All-SEC guy, of course. And I just think Tennessee seems to be finding a bit of a rhythm on the offensive side. So if you put those two together, you know, that's going to make for a fun clash, I think, in Knoxville, just because Auburn is so good on the offensive side. And I think, you know, we saw them go to Florida and win. This feels like somewhat of a similar matchup against Tennessee. Although, you know, if you want to point out some differences, Florida I think is just a better offensive team. But these were two elite, elite offensive rebounding teams in Florida. Yes, yeah. Two of the best out there. And so if Auburn can do some of the same things they did against Florida, I think they've got a great chance to win this game. But, again, if we're looking up and Tennessee wins, I think Nate Amen is probably a difference, because he doesn't look like a freshman anymore. I think one thing, if Tennessee has a 52-27 rebounding edge and 26-7 on the offensive boards, as they did against Georgia, Tennessee will win. It still amazes me when I saw that stat. And Tennessee held on to win by one in overtime, which should give Georgia credit. They're a better team this year. I'd have looked at that and I'd have told you Tennessee wouldn't have won the game by 15 points. That was amazing. Great stuff, my friend. What do you say we go to where it never snows? Or even is that changing this year? The South Georgia, where Bill Shanks is the king of the road. He's hosted the Bill Shanks Show on 93.1 FM in Macon, Georgia, online at thesesuperstations.com and on the tube at 41NBC. Bill, welcome in. There's a nasty rumor going around that even you guys have seen some snow this season. How are you? Well, I looked at my Doppler and it looked a little white. Like my hair, right? Bill, obviously a lot to get to today. Let's talk about where it's warmer. And that is, if you could take a thermometer to dabble right now, it would melt the snow, would it not? He is mad at Ole Miss. He says, I'm as mad as you know what, and I'm not taking it anymore. Your thoughts, did you ever think we'd get to a point where these coaches in the offseason would be going at each other the way they're going these days? And a lot of folks say, maybe it's time. Well, I think he would have been in a lot better situation if he would have been at his anger toward trying to find a solution. Yeah. But, you know, he can come off sounding like a crybaby, but what about a solution? What's your solution? What are you going to do to change this? And I didn't hear that. I had to stop listening to it because I'm not really a big dabble fan. He just kind of gets on my nerves. And, look, you know, that's whatever. I mean, you're right. I mean, it is what it is with that. But, still, I just had to kind of stop listening to it. But I would have been much more interested and had a lot more respect for him if instead of sitting up there for seven minutes and crying about it, he would have said, all right, this is happening, and not name names, but I want to see this happen instead. And so, you know, I don't know why they're afraid to do that. They just won't. And so, you know, it's not going to change. If he thought his action was going to be a change agent, he's, I think, incorrect. You bring up a good point, and I'm with you, Bill. I mean, obviously the world's full of problems, but the key is find somebody who's a problem solver because the problems are going to come. Is Davo kind of caught in a time warp? I mean, he wants to go back to the good old days where he goes out and he charms moms and dads and says, you come here, we're going to do it right, we're going to win. And you can't argue that paradigm, but the reality is you've got to go to Indiana. I mean, there's other places to go to those same moms and dads, but they bring a big fat chick with them. Is Davo in some ways living in a time warp? Yeah, I think he is because whether we like it or anyone else likes it or not, this sport has changed dramatically. And you either have to adjust accordingly and play the game or try to change it or sit there and b**** like a little girl. All of his antics that he's had about how, well, we don't do that at Clemson and all this holier-than-thou stuff comes off as just real, it turns me off. Because I'm like, well, who are you? I mean, you know, I know you won two national championships, but you know what? What have you done for me lately? And last year you sucked, buddy. And so, but change it. Do something to change it. I mean, you know what? I hate to say this, and I don't mean to be political, but it's like Tom Homan yesterday. Forgive me, Harold, for doing this. But this is a relevant, I think, comparison. Look, we are enforcing the laws that I've enforced that are six presidents. If you want to go somewhere and protest, go to Washington, D.C. and tell them to change it. And so, Dabo, if you want to do something to change it, don't just sit there and gripe about it. And whine. Do something productive that will make it different so you won't gripe about it. But I just don't know why they're not more proactive in trying to come up with a solution. Because complaining about this is not going to change it. It's not. Let me ask you about a point I've heard, and particularly since last Friday, when the college football playoff committee came out and said, nope, we're going to stay at 12 because the Big Ten and the SEC can't decide what direction we're going in. So we're just going to stand pat for another year or so. I have heard more criticism of Greg Sankey for his leadership or lack thereof this week from media than I've heard in a while. Now, I praise him because he basically saved college football in 2020 with COVID. He brought in Oklahoma and Texas to expand the league with two very good teams. But it's the same thing you keep saying. And I know I mentioned this about your proposal literally on a napkin in the Mexican restaurant. But Sankey, a lot of people thought we would get past this and have some answers now. And the leadership from the commissioners, I know there's a you-know-what contest going on with the Big Ten and the SEC. Your thoughts on Sankey and the leadership or lack thereof in moving this forward? Well, look, I'm a little disappointed because I feel that Greg Sankey has the leverage. When you're the big kid on the block, you know, you have the ability to be a bully. And not that bullying is a good thing, but sometimes it may be a necessity. And I think that if he's got the leverage, he needs to use it. He needs to threaten to say, you know what, we'll just have our SEC champion and we'll look at that as a national championship and the heck with all of you guys. And somebody needs to grow a pair and tell the group of six to hit the road. I'm really surprised, and forgive me if I'm a broken record on this, that after the playoff with Tulane and James Madison once again showing they don't belong, there was not more outcry of why they're there in the first place. And there's nobody that can have a louder voice with that than Greg Sankey. So, yeah, I'm a little surprised by that. And, you know, look, I do believe, Brett, that there are things going on behind the curtain that we may not understand. Oh, sure. That, you know, maybe a little past our salary point. And I appreciate that and respect that because I've grown to learn in my old age that, you know, we may think we know everything that is going on, but usually there is a reason for it. There's probably a reason why Greg Sankey perhaps has not been as forceful or as proactive as we would prefer because I don't think it's because Greg Sankey doesn't care or Greg Sankey doesn't. I think there are egos involved and there's no question. The bidding contest is going on here. Yes. And, yeah, when you're talking about money, you know, we're not playing Monopoly. You know, we're not going to Parkway. We're not going to the Mediterranean Railroad. It is a much more complicated situation. But still, you know, lock yourself in a room and let's come up with some solutions. And I don't know. I would love to know what those conversations are like. I would love to know how proactive the conversations are, how free they feel that they need to talk. I mean, do the four commissioners of the Power Four conferences sit in a room and say, why exactly do we have the group of six in there? You know, and who's forcing them to have them in there? Who? I mean, what? Is there a contract? Is there? Why are they? I think if you've got that right there taken care of and you had that separation, that that would be the first step of getting to a more perfect union, to use the term, if you will. Because if you've got ten conferences, I mean, that's just ten more, you know, nine more names than you probably need. You just need to simplify it a little bit. And I think until they do that, we're going to run into a lot of problems. We really are. Because I don't know how you can satisfy the group of six conferences at all. How can you? Bill Shanks, theseuperstations.com. One thing about it, Bill, the older you get, the more you find out how little you do know. And a guy that would answer this is the guy that is turning the calendar to these days is Nick Saban. But why in the world would Nick Saban at this age want to take on this responsibility? He is living the life. Bill, your thoughts. Obviously, that's the easy answer. But where's the NCAA going to be in five years? In college sports, for that matter. Well, I don't know. I really don't know. That's hard when there's no leadership. And, you know, it's like going back to Dabo for a minute. Who's Dabo complaining to? His hand. The hand. The microphone. Right. Exactly, Harold. I mean, who does he have the ability to call and say, Pete Golding is doing this and I'm not happy. Mommy, he hit me. That's right. There's nobody. It's like, why are you, if there's no one to complain to. It's like, we all know, and this is what kind of made his comment silly in my opinion. We all know tampering is going on. Let me tell you, the state of Georgia about had a conniption three weeks ago when the rumor was out that Ohio State was coming after Nate Frazier. Yeah. And was there tampering involved with that if there was a rumor that Ohio State University or was that the agent? And maybe the agent calling other teams to say, hey, make us an offer so we can get more from where we are at. I know that goes on, too. But, I mean, we all know tampering is going on now. Who are you going to tell? It always has. It always has, Bill. Oh, it always has. But, you know, Harold, those things that Auburn used to do behind our back now that. Oh, man. I can't get away with just a charger anymore. You got to have a gold-plated steering wheel now. Those old chargers are gone, man. That's right. That's right. That's right. But who is he going to tell? And, you know what? Again, until there's a – I know. I mean, it's like if you walk into Walmart and I'm like, you know what? I know that TV is priced at $257, but I'm going to take it, and there's nobody there to tell. There's going to be dumb people going in there and taking them. So, I mean, I may be using bad examples or comparisons, but it's like when there is nobody in control, nobody in charge, what are you going to do? You're going to call the NCAA? What are they going to say to you? When's the last time – here's the question for you. When's the last time there has been a suspension of a player in college football for academics in adequacy? I mean, we used to have all the time to fear that a player once a year on a team, every team in the country, somebody would flunk out. It's smarter now, Bill. When's the last time we've had a college football player flunk out and not be academically eligible? I mean, really, how long has that been since that happened? He made a C in walking. All right, I've had several people text me this week, ask him, ask him. Isn't it hard to believe we've got spring training around the corner? In fact, February – yeah, February begins Sunday. And we've talked about this. Anthopolis got a lot of criticism a year ago, and a lot of it was merited. But he has made some moves that have strengthened this team in the – you know, as far as the relief, as far as the bullpen is concerned, infield, depth, et cetera. And, again, I know you wait for me to ask you about durable starting pitchers, but being – you know, we can see it now. We can nearly feel it. Your thoughts quickly about what he's done and what are you hearing about what he may add before the season begins? Well, they signed a guy today, Mark Perez, who has been – he's not very good. I mean, it's a minor league contract bringing – and I don't buy those minor league contracts, bringing people to camp. You know, there was a rumor on Wednesday that he was interested in Lucas Giolito or Chris Bassett. Those would be very good additions, very, very positive. I've mentioned Bassett several times, and I think he would be very good. He'd probably be a little bit more expensive. Giolito is actually coming back off of the same kind of procedure that Spencer Strider had two years ago, the internal brace procedure. And he – Giolito was better than Spencer last year after his return. So I think we're all kind of wondering how Spencer Strider will do with his first full year back for the internal brace. And I'm curious as to how Giolito would do. So I would take either one of those. But, you know, today's move aside, I think that, you know, they can still bring in someone, and they better. They better. We're 10 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting. The first workout is a week from Tuesday, official workout for pitchers and catchers. So we're here, you know, it's here. And I just think it'd be a real bad mistake if they don't go into camp with a new external option for that starting rotation. I think it would be really stupid. No, I think you're exactly right. Well, if any of our incredible listeners would like to call your show this afternoon and talk about college football, the Braves, anything else under the sun, tampering what Jordan's been doing behind the scenes. We know how that goes. Where can they get online and call you and tell you what they feel? Well, they always call me and they tell me they've got to have somewhere to call because you two won't shut up. And I'm like, well, I have to talk to the host for you, you know. I mean, what are you going to do? But, no, the superstations.com will be – it's kind of a weird weekend because of the weather and because of the, you know, the no football. This is the first time we haven't had any football, right, to look forward to this weekend. So, we're going to be talking about the NHL and its problem with academic ineligible. It's the point. I'm sorry, the point. The man who's going to drop a puck on stuff, I guarantee you. It's the Lord's mercy. It's always good to hook up with you. No basketball, no football, but plenty of snowballs. So, be careful. Y'all be careful, too. We're going to get a trace, and that means the world will come to a stop. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Look out, Walmart. Bill Shanks, thesesuperstations.com. A group of Republican senators, including U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, blocked a spending package from moving forward in the U.S. Senate on Thursday. Seven senators joined with Democrats in voting against a procedural vote regarding the movement of those spending bills. There is a deadline of midnight tonight for those spending bills to be passed in order to avoid another government shutdown. Tuberville explained why he voted the way he did, saying moving the spending bills forward would have only set the stage for Democrats to push a wish list of reforms on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Tuberville said that Republicans should not give one inch to the Democrats and their demands for concessions in this area, especially when Republicans control the White House, the Senate, and the House. Tuberville says he's opposed to placing new protocols on law enforcement and immigration officers as they do their job of deporting criminal illegal aliens. Are you enjoying 1819 News? I'm Harold Bugg, alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us a free ride around the Tennessee Valley. We kind of emphasize that because, interesting enough, we're always pleased and honored to bring in Mike Huganen, college football slash basketball national analyst from Orlando, Florida. Mike, welcome in. Is it true that we're now getting some Florida weather? It's cold in your backyard, too, is it not? Yeah. It's going to be wind chill overnight Saturday into Sunday 8. Ah! Orlando. You got some nervous oranges and iguanas, don't you? Yeah. And the temperature here is 22, and I have a friend, a high school friend who lives in Miami still. It could be 32 over the weekend in Miami. And you mentioned iguanas. Iguanas, there's a lot of iguanas in South Florida. Yeah. When it gets that cold, they don't die, but their body sort of seizes up, and they fall out of trees. Oh, man. I think people think that's an urban legend. No, it's true. So, you'll be able to drive around Miami on Sunday morning and find iguanas lying on the ground. Oh, man. See, we're big animal lovers here. Let's hope that these forecasters miss it again. Mike, obviously, it's probably going to be a little warmer inside the gym come Sunday. It sounds weird. Sunday almost got him a NASCAR voice there. When Alabama rose in town, Todd Golden already throwing it down and said, I don't care if they got Bediaco or not, we're going to win this ballgame. Mike, your thoughts about hopefully a warmer climate there in Gainesville inside when Alabama, the Crimson Tide, rose in town Sunday. Yeah. I think Florida's the better team, but Florida's better than Auburn, and Auburn beat Florida last week in Gainesville because Florida could not stop Keyshawn Hall. Kylon is the best player on the SEC this year. Florida is going to have to keep him under control. I think the one advantage for Florida, Florida is really good on the backboards. They beat South Carolina by almost 50 in Columbia the other night, and they out-rebounded the game contract. I think it was by 28. Yeah. Florida's guards aren't very good. Florida's front court is quite good. I think Alabama's the flip side. So, it's going to be an interesting matchup because Florida's going to want to get the ball in the paint, and Alabama's going to want to fire away from outside. So, it should be an interesting dichotomy there. Yeah. Can Alabama stay somewhat close on the boards? I think that will determine the winner. Mike, I know last year at one point in the season or for a couple of weeks, there were three SEC teams in the top five. There is not a dominant team in the SEC, but there are a lot of good teams. Texas A&M with Buckyball, people wonder, well, how in the world would he do in the SEC? Quite good so far. Florida, as you mentioned, with the upset with Auburn. But there are 11 to 12 teams, and this will shrink up a little bit as we get closer to March Madness. But SEC right now has been wide open. Yeah, and I think it's a case of you could get nine or ten teams in the NCAA field, but how many are built to get past the second weekend? And I'm not sure there's many SEC teams that can get to the Sweet 16. I'm not sure there's going to be an SEC team in the Elite Eight, and that comes the year after the SEC had two in the Final Four and, of course, the eventual national champ. But it's extremely evenly matched. It's sort of like a lot of good teams in the Big 12 as well, and there's also a lot of cannibalism. And I think that's going to be a common refrain over the next couple weeks. Oh, my goodness, I can't believe they beat that team. Well, both are pretty good. And the key is holding serve at home, and that's what Florida did not do last weekend. They need to do that on Sunday. So, it looks like it's the Big Ten's world, no matter the sport, and we're just kind of living in it. Mike, let's come back to the SEC. How many times do we see this? A kid comes up in baseball or other sports, and they just rip it apart. And then when the other coaches sit here and say, aha, we got their number. We sit in football. They have great numbers the first half of the season, and the other coaches catch up with them. The point I'm trying to make here is Buckyball. Everybody keeps waiting for the ball to drop with Buckyball there at Texas A&M. So far, he is the talk of the town. Your thoughts about the situation there in College Station in the hardwoods? Yeah, he's doing a great job, especially when you look at what Buzz Williams is doing at Maryland. That is a horrible team. And there's already talk about they've got to get rid of him. If you look at what A&M has done, some impressive wins. I would also argue that they've had a relatively easy for the SEC schedule. They have not played Georgia yet. They have not played Alabama yet. They have not played Florida yet. They have not played Vanderbilt yet. So they haven't played Arkansas yet. So let's see what happens when the quote-unquote better teams are on the schedule. But I think that if you're an A&M fan or an SEC fan, you're looking at what A&M is doing. And you're like, this is an interesting team. And he's got a bunch of transfers that have come together extremely well. They are a well-coached team. But I still wonder, you know, if they're leading the SEC now, I would not be surprised if they finish fourth in the SEC. Wow. Yeah, you're right. But he's made quite a splash the first year. Mike, I was going to ask you, as far as football off-season hires, it's caught my attention. Lincoln Riley, and we've talked about their lack of defense for years, brings in former TCE legend Gary Patterson. And Josh Heupel hired Jim Knowles to come in and replay Kim Banks as far as defensive coordinator. Mike, are those two of the better hires in the off-season? I'm not sure about Patterson. I think Jim Knowles was a good hire. He's a guy who was a hot commodity. Went from Ohio State to Penn State in the off-season, which was surprising to some. But then again, I think he got over $3 million. And then the Penn State staff gets fired, and Penn State's new coach, Matt Campbell, goes out and hires Danton Lynn from USC, who's a really good coach. I think Knowles is a high-level defensive coordinator. And talking to people, his scheme, though, can be difficult to learn. So it'll be interesting to see how that's implemented in the spring. I certainly expect better defense from Tennessee this year than last year. Gary Patterson, to me, is a mystery. He hasn't coached for a while. He made his bones as a defensive coordinator. His TCU teams played great defense for the most part. That hire has a high ceiling. I think it has also, though, a very low floor. It's risky, I think, because, again, Patterson hasn't been on the field for a while. What changes has he made in his defense? I think, from a big-name standpoint, obviously, it made you sit up and look. Oh, my goodness. But I think Jim Knowles was a better hire than Gary Patterson. He's in Tuscaloosa when a guy named Dennis Franchoni marched in the room, and his little ducklings behind him, and of the assistants who didn't come win him, won Greg Patterson. He stayed behind and made some money back at the old farm. Let me ask you this, Mike. It seems like this day and time, we talk as much about courtrooms as we do, basketball courts and basketball and football fields. What's your take on the news over the last few days with Duke and quarterback Darian Mensah? Yeah, I think, you know, no one's surprised that, you know, Miami, as soon as he entered the portal, oh, he's going to Miami. And he entered Miami. Miami's actually got two guys involved in court cases. Damon Wilson's the other one. I think, you know, Duke at first seemed to be very confident that, okay, you know, he's not going anywhere. But money talks these days, and Miami's going to give him a heck of a lot more money. It appears that there is some kind of buyout situation. But it all goes back to, it's like in, you know, quote-unquote, college athletics is not real life. But in real life, you can change jobs. But, yes, there are some contracts where you have a clause where you can't work for a rival. Non-compete. Yeah, Miami stole a quarterback from the ACC champ. So, until you're actually an employee, I'm not sure how any team can keep players. Though I will say that Washington, when DeMond Williams says, I'm leaving, they said, okay, we're going to sue you. And then the Big Ten also weighed in, we will be part of the case for you. And then DeMond Williams stays. I don't know how his NIL deal was written. But one thing I thought was very interesting was that you didn't hear a peep from the ACC office when Miami stole Duke's quarterback. Mike, athletic departments, most people know football and men's basketball are the primary profit centers for athletics. Sometimes women's basketball, LSU, South Carolina, and others. Did you see this week that was disclosed Rutgers Athletics lost $78 million last year. And since joining the Big Ten, they have lost $516 million. Yeah, that's, I don't know how that is possible, I'll be honest. Rutgers is a really good academic school. And you wonder, if I'm a student at Rutgers, yeah, I'm probably interested in Rutgers Athletics. At the same time, they have high student fees. And I'd be like, maybe it's time for Rutgers to leave the Big Ten. Because despite the Big Ten having the best multimedia deal, you're telling me we're still losing this much money? A half billion dollars. And that's insanity. And I think it goes to show, I would be interested in seeing what the numbers are at a Mississippi State, at a Purdue, at a Minnesota, at a South Carolina. Because, again, Rutgers is in a state that is extremely rich. New Jersey has a lot of money. I find it, yeah, it's, I was incredulous when I saw, wait a second, you're telling me they're making $70 million a year from the Big Ten multimedia deal, and they're still losing that kind of money? Don't take a finance class at Rutgers is the point, Bill, Mike. Yeah, I don't know how that's possible. I don't know if it's a horribly run department or if it's a case, and Maryland evidently is losing money as well, another Big Ten school bringing in huge amounts of money. I don't, at some point, maybe some school president stands up and says, yes, the Big Ten has some academic and athletic, it's prestigious, but we're not going to be, we're not going to be wasting that much money anymore. No. Because that's, it's a waste of money, no question. Yeah, I was dumbfounded by that, my goodness. Well, listen, try to warm up, maybe by next week, it would be above freezing. Listen, have a great weekend, first weekend without football, by the way, that's going to be tough to get through, but some good basketball action. Yeah. Listen, have a great weekend, let's do this again next Friday. Excellent, thanks guys. Thank you so much. Stay warm down here, throw those iguanas and blankets too, if you don't mind. On Thursday's edition of Crimson Drive, driven by NASCAR, we got an Alabama gymnastics preview with SEC Network analyst Louisa Blanco. I was talking with head coach Ashley Johnston and, you know, not only was I her athlete, but just seeing her shift this program and still hold the tradition of what Alabama gymnastics has always been, has been incredible. She says that she's a fourth year senior with the senior class coming in and she can be more happier to see how they've been able to just elevate the standard week after week. But she really credits the buy-in of the freshmen. Not only are they pushing all the members of the team with their talent and their greatness and their hunger to just want to exceed their own expectations, but I just think that curiosity of not knowing what you know and this being your first time out there is really inspiring. And for Zach Pounder taking time out of his schedule there at Shoals Sports Report. Zach, welcome in. Happy Friday to you. How are you? Doing good. How are y'all? We're doing all right. It's hard to believe. I'm looking at the calendar in shock, shock. It's the last Friday in the month of January, translated when it comes to high school sports. Basketball about to get ready for the postseason down at I-65 in Hantsville and other places. Zach, coming in right now, what are the top storylines for our Shoals teams here on this last Friday of the month? The top storylines for me in basketball are it has everybody coming out of this break of 10 days off basically for some teams. And a week plus in some cases. And some teams have area games that have meant a whole lot to seed. And some of the area games that play out the area still. Lexington and girls have a game on Monday with Tanner that could determine the one seed depending on what Decatur Heritage does tonight with Tanner. And if Tanner loses tonight, Decatur Heritage, Lexington wins on Monday against Tanner, it's a two-way tight and tall for the area host and one seed. And the difference in that is that once they get Tanner, the one thing gets Lindsey Lane, the two thing gets Tanner in the area semis. And both teams should have a good chance, whoever wins that area, to get out of the celebration and go to Washington. We're going to talk about some of the hot teams going into the area. That's always interesting to me. We've got a couple of boys and girls. One of them that is the Muscle Shoals boys. They have won 13 of 14 games now. They're going to host Florence tonight. Florence beat them earlier in the season. Muscle Shoals beat Decatur 71-45 earlier. Gavin Parrish scored 21 points. But one team that is doing, that is playing very well right now is the Muscle Shoals boys. Yes, Muscle Shoals and Florence tonight at Muscle Shoals. I will say this, if we go into that game tonight, get there early before 5.30, before 5.00, play before 5.00. They will probably have to close the doors. Does not have a capacity to hold both schools' capacities on both sides. I know last year they had to close the doors like at probably 6.00 or 6.30. So, if you go into that game tonight, get there early, get there quick. But, yeah, Muscle Shoals boys, it's kind of like Florence boys last year was. They had three or four scores who could get it done at any night. Gavin Parrish can get to 20 a night, 50 a night. Cam Hoes can get to 20 a night. Keale Foster, not a score, but he can change a game, quit with rebate on the block. But, just his athleticism for the football field shows on the basketball court, too. And, when he's not in the catering, he had a dunk, got a technical foul for it because he yelled. But, when he's dunked, if that game wasn't on the show, he would have brought the house down, the roof, whatever, on the building. It was one of those, if I had a video of it, I always had a video of it. He probably took off on the block and just sort of get his head. But, one of those don'ts, it really changed the game, it changed the whole flow of the game. And, it's kind of a lot of fun towards last year. They have moved Jamari and Draper out of the Charlotte, I'm pretty sure, and now he's off the bench. But, yeah, that kind of size off the bench at new level basketball, it's huge. And then, Christian Preacher is also back from his ankle injury in football. So, they're now seven, eight days at what shows they can run and roll. And, hopefully, they can get a walk. No, go ahead, Zach. Now, Zach Pounder is looking up on the show's sports report. Obviously, we mentioned the schedule coming in, Zach. A lot of teams looking pretty good, just a matter of staying healthy. But, other teams, they're on the ropes trying to make sure that they can sit here and get a respectable seed. Your thoughts about some of the teams that come to mind, I would imagine Deschner and Wilson Boyes come to mind in that category. Yes, what a game last night. First off, both teams played a heck of a game. One of those games, I think you asked everybody to tell, from the second quarter to the fourth quarter, you didn't know who was going to win. It was always like one-point lead here, two-point lead there. Big foul. Big foul here, big call there. But, yeah, Wilson last night went that fourth overtime with Deschner. Janus Mallett at the buzzer of regulation. Second effort. I think he attended a jump shot. Got offensive board. Went back, put it back up with, like, one-second lead up in the clock now as it was rolling. But Deschner pulled through it every time to win that game and locked up the three seed in the area for the boys. That 4-8 boys area is now decided on the seed. Brooks is the one seed host him. Central Wilson has the five and four seed. Deschner-Hatton has the three and two seed. Deschner-Hatton winner will go to sub-regionals. The Wilson-Central winner plays Brooks. And that winner will go to sub-regionals offseason. Yeah, you had a Deschner-Brooks game like that. That's the difference in you and a lot of folks. You go to a lot of these games, and we'll get into that in just a few minutes. We talk a lot about the Lauderdale County girls for a lot of reasons. In fact, they're one of the hottest teams going into the area. But tip of the count to the boys, they won their 20th game beating Central 73-49. Kevin Watkins, who is really a good season, had 20 points. They reached 20 wins for the seventh time in nine years. The girls are great. You know, we talked about the girls for a while, but the boys are not too shabby either. Yeah, it's odd for them boys every day to be better than the girls, just for the first time in a year, probably. But the girls have been battle-tested. They went through some injury issues in December. They have one player out for the season, I think Anthony Shelton broke her way back from injury. And then I think they have one more that was also in the European tournament. But when they're fully healthy, I think it'll be this year, they're going to be up there with the best of them in the state. And if they don't get to Wallace in the Elite Eight with the Smart Seals, or both of them are not in the Elite Eight with the Smart Seals, at Wallace State, my bad, then something's going wrong, somebody had it off nine, or something. Zach Pander's show of the Sports Report. Obviously, it's been a very interesting few days out at Mars Hill with the news of Coach Gerald Higgins leaving the football program for Russellville. But let's talk a bit about on the hardwoods. Did I see this right, Zach? The Mars Hill girls pick up their 950th win, and now 951 since then. So, it's been an interesting week out of the Hill. Yeah, I was actually at Mars Hill last Friday for the Peter Hesher's game on the hills of Coach Higgins leaving. And also, the realignment stuff, it's a very odd feeling over there now at Mars Hill with no in line. Yeah. All right, we're not going to 4-8 for football. We don't have to play Brooks and Deschler, but we have to play private schools now across the board. Yeah. And I think the realignment helps them and hurts them both. I think with a new coach for them, it helps them. Because who the new coach is, it's a less intimate job now at Mars Hill than it would be if you're in 4-8 with Brooks, Deschler, Hamilton, all those schools. So, now it's a less intimate job. And on the basketball side, the boys may be the best 8-13 team in the state. For one of the best 8-13 team in the state. They're 6-0 in area plays. And they have played Austin, Hunt, Bull, Madison, Canada, Heritage, whoever, in the upper competition level, they've played some of the best in the state. And lost about all of them. They beat Orange Beach in 4-8. But they have one more win outside the area at the cyber map. But as far as that goes, 8-13, don't be deceived if they're at Wall of State in two weeks. That reminds me a little bit of Oakwood. They're 11-12, but they're number one in 1-A. Because, just like you said, they play all these upper-tier teams and lose games. Before we get into – I'm sitting here looking at the standings. But congratulations to Coach Killen. The Destra girls do their thing. She got win number 949. Wow. And we were just talking about Mars Hill with 950 total for the program. Reach Davis does her thing, scoring 34 points, Casey Nelson 19. And we talked about her a good bit last year. But, once again, Coach Killen, 949 total wins. Yeah, she's basically not on the door of 1,000. And if she wins at her current rate, she should hit 1,000. Not this season, not next season, but in the next season after that. I don't know what the year that is. They win about 25, 30 a year. Therefore, I think they can win 30 this year also if they go far enough. And she'll hit 1,000, and then who knows what. To have 1,000 wins in volleyball and basketball is something like – Incredible. It's probably never going to be done again. 30 years or something now. I think it's a girls' basketball coach. I think 37 years. He's probably ever got more basketball than we've all watched. That's right. Now, listen, last night, that Desher Wilson girls game. Yeah. That is the most fire of the top 10-inch girls in a long time. That was a game that really – it was close early. They pulled away the third quarter. And they play with that kind of effort and that kind of firepower the rest of the season. I don't know if Goodhub can beat them. I don't know if Trinity can beat them out of the Central Region. And I don't know if Clemson can beat them in the Northeast. When you have Reese and Casey, we can give you 20 and 20 a night. And Chloe can give you – Chloe Nelson and Casey's twin sisters can give you 10 or 15 a night. And then, with Desher also, Demerica Hanks is going to be a pest on defense. You can stay in the field last night. They're coming into form a team now. No seniors. It's not been the last ride. That's the scary part, too, is there's no seniors. It's all juniors. They're all three to two and sophomores. So, last night, we also had three girls with 10 points or more. But when you have three getting 10 a piece, that's only 30. If you have two that can give you 40 combined, that's going to win and go farther in the long run. Yeah, you're exactly right. By the way, congratulations on growing your site. You had a – of course, I follow it and get updates. You've got the scores. As I mentioned, you attend games. I've seen you at some of the football games. But starting in 2023, now you've grown it. I believe you're going to add flag football upcoming. But you cover all 17 high schools in Lauderdale and Calvert County for varsity football, basketball, softball, and baseball. And you can get on your site now and look at the standings going into the area tournament. That's going to begin, I believe, next week. Again, talk about your site. I know you're going to be covering a lot of games tonight, maybe at most of the show's Florence game. But talk a little bit more about the site and where we can get on and get the scores every night in the latest standings. Yes, we're about to be full go the next month. We've got basketball playoffs, baseball, softball starting up in a few weeks. Running pretty easy for those on our Facebook and Twitter right now. And then showofsportsupport.com is our website. It's the same as the Facebook and Twitter page. But on that, we have live areas of standings. So, the results in the night area games around the area and around the surrounding areas that affect our teams, proceed while those on there and then our Twitter and Facebook. Also, we're going live next week to playoff after every night of the playoff for the next day after. It's going to be one of the most fun times of the year for us. So, Facebook, showofsportsupport, Twitter, at showofsport, at lowercase, S-H-O-A-L-S-T-O-R-T-S. And our website, showofsportsupport.com. We hope to have more on there as we go deeper into this year. And that's all. Zach, a lot of hard work, but you love it. Keep it up. And thank you so much. Stay warm out there, okay? And thanks so much for your time today. Thank you, y'all too. Yeah, I mean, it is about as hot as I've seen this team be this season for sure and maybe the hottest team in the SEC. It's kind of funny. Florida on the road for the first time in 30 years and then coming back from 14 down to beat Texas the other night. That was the first two of what is a really brutal stretch in the schedule for Auburn. We looked at that middle six and was like, oh, man, this is going to be tough. But they're 2-0 in it and 4-0 and playing really good basketball at the right time of the year. So what's been the secret to the sauce? I mean, obviously, like you, a lot of folks said, look, it's this record. They're going to Florida, the defending national champs. It's a road game. It starts there, but that's just one of four. What has been the secret to the sauce for this team? Yeah, I mean, I think the big thing for this team has just been I think they've gotten a lot more comfortable playing with one another and just kind of adjusting to what works for them on the offensive end. I think you saw that in the second half against Texas the other night. I mean, it's really the best half of offense in Auburn that I've seen in a very long time because, you know, they average almost two points of possession in the second half against Texas. And, you know, 28 trips down the floor, they score 24 times. It's hard to do against anybody. And I think you see it in that game. Keyshawn Hall, you know, it's a lot of one-on-one. It's a lot of getting downhill. It's a lot of trust in, you know, him to make plays and then getting guys off of that. Kevin Overton goes crazy. You get a frontcourt that's hanging in there and battling and rebounding down low. So, I think that's a big thing. And on the second part, it's like, I think Auburn's playing just been locked into playing strong defense for 40 minutes. This was a thing that really kind of eluded them early in the season. They weren't really playing consistently on that end. This is not an elite defensive team by any means, but if they fight and they compete for all 40 minutes, they can do some pretty special stuff. And I think last week Florida was a great example. I mean, that was the worst home game Florida basketball has had in three years on the offensive end. And for this Auburn defense to be the one to do that, it's a lot of fight. It's a lot of effort. It's a lot of physicality. This is not Dylan Carwell and Janiah Broom. This is not Denver Jones on the perimeter. This is not a team that's got elite defenders. But they can play with a ton of physicality and that changes a whole lot for them. The game defensively, they stood up to Florida. They matched their physicality. Condon scores all of one point. Chinilu played well in the first half in the second half. Now, Hauk scored, I believe, 27 points. But it also helps. I think Auburn had a grand total of three turnovers, which is incredible. Pettiford had done, which is amazing to play 36 minutes and do that. Oh, by the way, in the second half against the Gators, Auburn shot 68% from the floor and 67% from the three-point line. that's going to win a few games. It is. And I think, you know, I think what you're seeing from this team right now is you're seeing, you know, a lot of confidence in what they're doing. And, you know, I think this team, because they have a lot of good isolation scores, a lot of one-on-one scores, they're really good at what, you know, what we call late offense, where, you know, in years past, you have a team that, you know, hey, we're going to try to fly down the floor, get the first good shot that we can take and go from there. I think this Auburn team has been better of like, okay, let's run our stuff. And if we don't love the look we're getting, we always know we can kick it to a Tishon Hall or a Tahaid Pettiford or a Kevin Overton or a Elijah Freeman and go work for, hey, late in the shot clock, you know, go one-on-one with somebody, get a screen, get downhill. They're either going to foul you or you're going to get a good look out of it. And so Auburn's been able to pile that up, you know, because any coach will tell you in basketball, you can be the best defense around. It's hard to play defense for 30 seconds in a row. It's just, you wear down over time. And I think Auburn, especially in the second half of games, they're really making teams defend later in the shot clock. And, you know, teams get tired. They start fouling. They start reaching. And I think Auburn's taking great advantage of that. But in order to do that, you've got to one, not get in a hurry, not force bad passes, not turn the ball over, and also just don't force bad shots. I think Auburn had a bad habit earlier this season of forcing early shots that were not very good and then basically the other team just get out and go on the other end. If you, even if you miss the shot, if it's a good shot, it's late in the shot clock and you feel like you got it, you at least have time to go set your defense on the other end of the floor. And I think that's been a big difference for this Auburn team. What a concept. The Indiana football team says if you don't beat yourself, you increase your odds of winning consistently. Justin Ferguson, the Auburn observer, there's two kinds of streaks, right? Justin, one's a winning streak, one's a losing streak. They're both difficult. It's hard to break out of a losing streak. Sometimes it's hard to keep a winning streak. To do that, Auburn's got to go and take on an old nemesis, Tennessee this weekend. Your thoughts about that matchup? It's a brutal matchup for sure. And I think it's, you know, a lot of the same things we talked about with Florida a week ago apply here. You know, last week we were saying, like, hey, Florida's the best rebounding team in America. Well, guess who's the new best rebounding team in America after the last week? Tennessee. Yeah, Tennessee. That's right. Tennessee had 28 offensive rebounds against Georgia. That's right. 28. Like, it's insane what they're doing right now on the glass. So for Auburn, it's, you know, matching that physicality that they showed against Florida last week. Like, hey, we are going to be in here to fight with you for all 40 minutes. We're going to, we know you're good at rebounding, but we feel like we can hold our own. That's priority number one. If Auburn can do that, you look at the matchup. Tennessee's had some issues with turnovers this season. Can Auburn, you know, force those because Auburn's done a really good job of not turning the ball over? Can they win that matchup? The other thing is free throws. Tennessee doesn't, hasn't been great from the free throw line on the whole. Auburn has been really good from the line and they get to it more than anybody in college basketball this season. So those are like two areas where I think it's kind of like the special teams of offensive basketball where it's like, all right, if we win the turnover battle, we win the free throw battle, we feel like we have a good chance. The thing you can't do though is let Tennessee get shot after shot after shot because they go pull it off the glass. Like they've got some talent to play. Jacoby Gillespie is a really good shooter especially at home and he doesn't come off the floor and he's a great point guard for them. Nata Mint is one of the best freshmen in the country and that's saying something because this is a crazy good freshman class in college basketball and he's 6'10 and can shoot pretty well. So they've got pieces, they've got weapons to score and if you give them second and third and fourth chances, they'll knock it down especially at home. So for Auburn, it's trying to limit to one shot as much as possible, take care of the ball, get to the free throw line. If they do that, they have the ability to kind of grind out a game against Tennessee but it's going to take that. It's going to take stuff like that and playing that kind of defense they played last week at Florida. I think this game is really reminiscent of that Florida game last week. I feel like if Auburn does the things that they did well against Florida, they'll have a chance to beat Tennessee which is something because they don't have a great track record in Knoxville but not very many teams do. Auburn's 39th transfer edition, Orlis Bordingham, according to Alex Golich yesterday at the Senior Bowl may be the last as he said we're close to being done and I think Auburn met a lot of their needs and I know we've discussed that the last two or three weeks. Do you anticipate anyone else at any other position as far as transfers and again the National Signing Day is next Wednesday. Most of these teams now are done. There's very little but some teams will bring in a few. Will Auburn bring anyone in as far as high school next week? Don't think anything of high school. They don't really have any commitments right now that kind of fit that bill. I think next week it's funny we just got word today that we're going to talk to Alex Golich and the coordinators next week on Signing Day and it's not really because Auburn's doing anything but it's just hey, we've got to catch up on all the things they've done over the last month. I think it's going to be pretty quiet here. They're in the 90s right now in their scholarship count at the moment so that's a good number to be at for sure and Alex Golich was kind of saying what you're going to see now is alright, we've got these guys in let's go through spring and then once spring you've got to remember while there's not a big open transfer portal grad transfers are still a thing and so there might be some guys kind of late in the process okay, they go through spring, they graduate wait from college in the spring and then you know what maybe they try to make a move over the summer that's the kind of thing you're probably going to look at more maybe those maybe some JUCO kids maybe something like that but I think you know for the most part it's probably going to be another couple of months before we start hearing about Auburn making any more moves with their roster right now it's going to be focusing on getting the guys they got in and starting to train them up and turn them loose you know with a very very big you know winter workouts and spring practices they've got coming up Justin, Alex in the modern era if you want to get clicks you say something where Alabama is talking smack on Auburn or Auburn is talking smack on Alabama I have a rule I don't click on those things because I know what the game is all about but you've seen the same things we have about goalies taking shots at Alabama and your thoughts about this Auburn staff obviously a lot of short time to make up a lot of inroads with in-state coaches your thoughts about those two topics of the smack top back and forth and where these coaches this new staff making inroads with in-state coaches yeah I wasn't immobile for it but it was I heard from the folks that were down there it was like Golesh was asked about the Betty Aco thing and he was just like I don't know and then he was just like oh well they lost so you know easy win easy way to get the fans kind of fired up you know that's kind of kind of cheap pop is what you would call that but yeah you know I mean I will say this thing about Alex Golesh and just kind of he's a guy who wants to kind of embrace this opportunity at Auburn embrace this fan base embrace this culture and I think obviously Alabama there's a lot of comps there into that so you get that and you know we talk about making inroads yeah I mean I'll say this about Golesh I think there are some folks that were like oh this is another group of five coach what can they do in recruiting Auburn just had a really good recruiting staff and all that and how's this guy going to be I'll tell you this the word I've got just from seeing him and then talking to some coaches here in the state and just around Alex Golesh and this staff have been really really hard at work I don't know if this dude sleeps like he is constantly working constantly recruiting and then yeah I mean he knows that he's an outsider to a degree with you know some of these some of these schools in Alabama so getting as much face time as they can with high school coaches with recruits they've been all over the place over these last few weeks which I think is pretty big to kind of get that initial first impression and you know yeah the coaches convention the coaches association convention in Montgomery this weekend like these last couple days he took his old staff there and made sure that they all got to meet with coaches and all that and it's just that kind of stuff's big because hey it might not get you you know a five star right away or anything like that but relationships are huge in recruiting and so you got to build those inroads and this dude's just you know I don't know how he's got this many hours in the day but he's doing a really good job of trying to you know make a great first impression here on the recruiting trail well I don't know if you sleep much either I know you're probably going to Knoxville tomorrow or heading that duration soon 6 a.m. emails the mailbag on Friday the podcast football basketball et cetera where can we get online to get all of it yeah auburnobserver.com check it out we've got a mailbag out today and a podcast so a lot of good stuff in there and you're right a sled up there eventually to get in but I'm going to be able to take my time make a very careful drive into Knoxville tomorrow hopefully the weather will cooperate enough that I can make that trip
