Florence Falcons Basketball on 93.9 The Score is brought to you by Florence Utilities, Florence City Schools, the law firm of Johnson, Pasture, Medley and Birchall, Lost Pizza, North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic, TNT Fireworks, Yogurt Mountain, Whataburger, Singing River Dentistry, Bank Independent, Irons Electric, Cypress Creek Indoor Range, and Hennigar Johnson and Layton Insurance. Now let's go live to courtside. Here's the voice of the Falcons, Kevin Johnson. And good evening on a Saturday night. Happy New Year from 93.9 The Score. Kevin Johnson, voice of the Florence Falcons. Hope that you're having a great start to the 2026 season. And it's time for a grind to shine tournament. And Florence is the whole playing host of this tonight. We're excited about that. Should be a tremendous time. A lot of games being played today. And we're excited about being a part of it. And tonight, the Florence Falcons getting ready to host the Bears of 60 Valley High School. And joined now by head coach Dylan Burleson. And coach, first of all, thank you for being here and being with us. And the grind to shine tournament, just in a brief way, explain what it's all about. So it's by an organization that is a non-profit organization that runs through Alabama, AAU basketball, travel basketball. Me and Blake Franks have a long-standing relationship. And it's just something that we want to do to, you know, get local teams and teams of Mississippi, Tennessee, good basketball teams here to come play. First game of the 2026 new year. So it's a really good opportunity. Lots of games start about 10 o'clock this morning. Again, tonight, after your game, another game, if I'm not mistaken. Spain Park, I believe, is here. Somebody like that playing. So it's going to be a lot of fun. But tonight, you get to Tennessee Valley. That's a good team coming up from the Tuscaloosa area. It really is. They've got three really good guards, three really good players. If we let them get their feet set, they're going to be able to knock down some perimeter shots. We've got to make sure we run them off the line. Hopefully, I think our ball pressure can give them some trouble. But we've got to keep them off the boards. I didn't think we did that very well last week in Birmingham. So that's been a point of emphasis in filming and practice. Something that we've got to do tonight. Biggest thing you want to see out of your team tonight, basically? Limit live ball turnovers. If we can limit live ball turnovers, it's going to put ourselves on a really good spot and give us more possessions and opportunities. Best of luck, Coach. Appreciate it. The head coach of the Florence Falcons, Coach Dylan Burleson. You're listening to the TNT Fireworks pregame show, Florence Falcon Basketball. We're back in two minutes. Kevin Johnson, glad to be with you now. It's being hosted here at Florence High School. Games all day long. One more after this one. So if you're in the Florence area, you want to come by and see a great high school game. There's another great one to be played right after this one with Florence and Sipu Valley about nine minutes away from tip time here after we get through with the National Anthem and starting lineup. So you have time if you're in the area to come by and see them. The Falcons, not the start they wanted this season. They have played as tough a schedule as you can imagine. Had tough games in the tournament during during Christmas. Had close games. Just couldn't get things to fall their way. But no quit in this team. That is for sure. No quit. And head coach Dylan Burleson in his third season here for the Florence Falcons. So it should be a good matchup today against Sipu Valley who I believe is 5A if I'm not mistaken. Sipu Valley always a tremendous athletic team for years and I know they'll look forward to play this first time these two teams have ever matched up in any sport that I'm aware of. I am aware of this Sipu Valley Bears and football. I know they are a handful in football for many years, but they come with basketball, too, and a well coached and a good reputation. They are eight and nine on the season and have played some stiff competition, including playing up against the seven, eight schools and six, eight schools throughout as well. The Falcons led by J.C. on pain, who's had an outstanding season for Florence. He's been everywhere, scoring the basketball and with a lot of pressure on him because sometimes the scoring seems to fall on him a lot and he's really handled it well. Really proud of the young man, only a junior, but he had a tremendous tournament down in Homewood at Samford University. So I really thought that he played as well as any. So I'm looking forward to him having a tremendous 2026. Looking forward to that one as well with him. The Falcons have back to health a little bit, had some guys that have been out six and guys that have been under the weather. But it is a it is a really good team that Florence has when they can get it all going the right direction. You know, as we always say, it's a tournament. It's a tournament top team. You want to get hot at the right time. So it might have been a slow start, but you can get hot at the right time and you can make things happen. So we'll see how this Falcons team does tonight. Both teams warming up. Been great crowd here all day long. Basketball throughout the shows area today. But lots of games here. And I pulled up in the parking lot is full. So lots of great games here today. Watching J.C. I'm paying. Actually, check out Skipworth is down here being coached up a little bit by Corey Hughes. And man, if there was ever a former player that now is a coach that could play, that Corey Hughes was something else at Coffee High School. He was as smooth as silk working with these young men about how to make plays on the baseline right now, even during warm-ups. Like seeing that. Great staff that Dylan Burleson has here at Florence High School. So it should be a good matchup today. The Bears are coached by Adrian Scott, a veteran coach. So they've made the long trip up here. They're, like I said, from the Tuscaloosa area. It's the best way. I think it's called Buell, Alabama. Just before our game, Whitesburg-Christian won their game against McAdory. McAdory did not have Bo Jackson on the team this time. So Whitesburg-Christian, the 3A school that played Florence early in the year and actually in Thanksgiving and picked off the Falcons on a last-second shot of them, not mistaken. So this Florence team has had lots and lots of close games not go their way. And it's ready to turn a new page in the new year so it couldn't come at a better time. Coach Mark Johnson, assistant coach, coming by to say hello as well. Good officiant crew. Couldn't do this tournament today without all the officials. There's three fresh officials every game. We look forward to that as well. So we're thankful for them being a part of it. Well, the Falcons wearing the home white and blue. Meanwhile, Sipsy Valley will be in black and gold. The Bears is their mascot. They have that across the front chest in white. And we're getting ready for starting lineups. And first, also, the national anthem. So while we have that happening, let's take a three-minute timeout. You're listening to the TNT Fireworks pregame show of Florence Falcons basketball. We're back in three minutes. At North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic, our Shoals roots run deep. We provide quick access and familiar, friendly faces so you never have to feel just like a number. Welcome back to the TNP Fireworks pregame show coming to a close. Starting lineups for the big matchup tonight between Florence and Sipsy Valley. First ever matchup. The Bears, coached by Adrian Scott, will start CJ Head. He'll be in there at one position. Phillip Robinson will be the other guard. Where's number three? Caden Knight. Where's number five? Three guards can really play. Knight will wear one black shoe and one gold shoe. When you do that, you've got to be pretty good. So keep an eye on him. Colin Warren will get the start as well. And Cornelius Brown, who wears number 23. So it'll be Brown, Warren, Knight, Robinson, and Head for Coach Adrian Scott's Sipsy Valley Bears, who come in with an 8-9 record on the day in this grind to shine tournament. Now, starting lineup for the Florence Falcons. Wearing the whole white, trimmed and blue with Falcons across the front. The blue checks down the side. The Chicago Bulls music in the background. Can't get better than that. Taylon Jones will get the start. He's 6'3", a junior. And he's started playing really good in the past few games. Jaceon Payne, only a junior, 5'10". He has been outstanding. He'll wear that white headband. He will get you every time, that's for sure. Jayshod Pearson, 5'9", senior. Where's number 2? We'll have a little bandage on the left arm today, but it looks like he's okay. Jaden White will get the start. Where's number 10? 6'2", sophomore. And finally, Jaden Irons, who wears number 13. That's 6'2", junior. We'll get the start. So the Falcons will have Irons, White, Pearson, Payne, and Jones to start for the Falcons. In this grind to shine classic, as I said, games have been played all day long. My apologies for not having all the updates on the games. I'll try to get that before the half, if I can, and give you an update on that. It'll be White to jump center for the Falcons, wearing the home white uniforms against Philip Robinson. And White gets up there and wins the toss. And Jayshod Pearson, of course, walks the sideline and gets it to Payne for three. And just like that, he starts up 20-26, where he left 20-25. Jayshod Payne drains the three right off the bat in the first 10 seconds, and Florence leads it 3-0. Falcons will open up man-to-man against this Bears team, who's got really quick guards. Go up and quick basket there. That is Robinson. Gets baseline and gets the five-footer. Irons, spins in the lane, kicked it back out to White, goes hard to the basket, missed the shot. Rebound taken by the Bears, stolen away, though, by White and Payne. Payne has it, takes another three on the way. That one back rim, rebound taken by the Bears. They look to run quickly up the floor, looking for help, trying to kick it back out, and gets it to Warren. Lost the shot, though, no good, and rebound taken by the Falcons. Irons gets it to Payne, who gets it to White, who goes to the basket. Finger roll, wouldn't go. Rebound tipped around, bouncing around, finally taken down there by Brown of Sipsy Valley. Running the point will be Caden Knight. As I said, wears one gold shoe and one black shoe. You can do that. You're pretty special. So it's easy to catch on the court, that's for sure. Warren has it up top. Gets it to Brown on the wing. Deep three, will not fall. It's all Falcons underneath the rebound on that. Irons gets it to Payne. Payne surveys traffic, drives hard at the basket, spins, goes up, scoop layup, blocked beautifully right there. Give Robinson credit. He stayed with Payne. Watched what was happening, and came back and blocked him. Robinson probably goes 6'3", 6'4", maybe a little taller than that even if I look at him. Payne at six foot. Inbounds pass to Irons. Couldn't get it as the Bears converged and knocked it away and stolen away, Knight with the steal. He'll walk it up the floor. Florence leaves at 3-2, with 6'24 to count here in the first quarter on this Saturday night special from Florence, Alabama in the Coffee Gym. On the wing, can't get the shot off his Robinson. He's hounded there by Florence's Payne. Brown can't get by Irons. Irons standing with him, turns him left, turns him right. Now, Brown comes back, kicks it up top to Knight. Knight at the free throw line, 15-footer on the way. Back rim, no good. All Bears getting the rebound, though. Loose ball, corner three on the way. That one falls in. That's the Bears dream that one. That was Cornelius Brown with the three. And the Bears have a 5-3 lead. Payne picks up the dribble. Gets it to Jones. Jones cross-court pass to White. Swings it around to Pearson. Pearson at the free throw line. Keeps the dribble alive. Back over to Payne. He's open in the corner for three. That one won't fall. One of three so far. He hit third one, but missed two now. And rebound taken by the team in black and gold. And a quick pass down the floor, but knocked away. And it may go back to Florence. Nope, we're going to stay with Sipsey Valley. And CJ Head couldn't control it. White will come out. Cage Roy will check in. JV and Lewis will come in for irons. 5-25 here in the first. 5-3. Sipsey Valley leads Florence. Cornelius Brown for the Bears has it. Deep three on the way again and good. No shame in that one. That was Phillip Robinson who drained that one. He has five of the eight points. And the Bears lead it 8-3 at the five-minute mark. Pearson got the screen. Kicked it around. Lewis to Payne. Payne bounced pass to Jones. Jones hands it off to Roy. Good ball movement. Nice movement right there. By Florence. Lewis now to Pearson. Pearson back over to Roy. This is a very quick, athletic Sipsey Valley team. First time to ever see them in person. And I see why they're so good in all their sports. Jones skipped pass to Pearson. Pearson got called for the offensive foul. No, it's the right call. Pushed off with the right hand. His first. Team's first. And a quick, fast Sipsey Valley team leads it 8-3 with the four-and-a-half-minute mark here in the first quarter. Back door cut. Goes in. Lays it up. Put it in. Timeout taken by Coach Dylan Burleson. We'll do the same. Florence down 10-3 early on. This is Falcon Basketball. We're back in 30. Hey, Falcon fans. This is Keith at Cypress Creek Indoor Range. Florence trails Sipsy Valley 10-3. And it's an impressive-looking Sipsy Valley team. Not going to lie. They're quick. They're fast. They're only 8-9 on the season. They have played an incredibly tough schedule. Looking at their schedule as well. Pearson will bring it up to the floor for Florence. Jones has it on the outside. Hands it off to Payne. Skip passing the corner to Roy. Roy drives baseline. Got by his man and knocked away, but a foul is called. And Roy should go to the line to shoot two. Warren picks up the foul. Team's first. To the free-throw line, Cage Roy. He wears the white headband as well. Wears number four. And rolls to the first one home. One, one. Second free throw. In and out. No good. Rebound taken by the Bears. Knight will bring it up to the floor. Picked up by Pearson. Goes left to Warren. In the corner. Quick ball movement there. Pull up. Jumper fade away. No good. Rebound taken by Roy. Good box out right there by Roy. Florence looks to push. Down 10-4. Pearson in the corner. Keeps the dribble alive. Got a step. Spins. Fade away. Nowhere to go. Put it inside to Roy. Laid it in. He had nowhere to go. Like he was going to have to shoot a fadeaway. Tough shot. At the last minute, he saw Cage Roy open. As he had a double coming at him. And threw the pass underneath there. Roy caught it. Put it in. And the lead trimmed down to 10-6. High pass caught by the Bears. Goes baseline. Cross court. Deep three by Browns on the way. And it's good. Goodness gracious. Can he shoot? That's six on the day. And it's a high arching gorgeous shot. Payne. Front court for Florence. In the paint. Got a step. Left hand layup. Good. He's got five on the day. Trims the lead at 13-8. Florence has picked up the offensive side. Now, can they pick up the defensive side a little bit? Knight. Horn set. Goes back door again. Easy layup is there. That's twice. You know, Warren does the same thing. He's got four points, and both of them on the same set. One was on the right side. One was on the left side. 16-9. Pearson front court. Payne's open. Three on the way. Oh, that one wouldn't go. That looked good. We're not following the rebound. Taken by Brown of the Bears. Knight will bring it up to the floor. Wearing the black and gold uniforms. Nobody picked up Knight. He goes hard to the basket. Laid it up. No good, but he's fouled. Tell you what, these three guards are really good for this Sipsi Valley team. Payne picked up the foul. His first. Team's second. Knight will shoot the free throws. Drains the first. One thing about the key, Knight makes the free. One thing I've been impressed by this Sipsi Valley team is they shoot the ball really nicely and are confident shooting. Florence goes multiple substitutions like a hockey match. Zy Burnett will come in. Bo Burski will come in. Second free throw is good. And Burski and Burnett fight for the rebound. And Burnett gets it. Pearson front court to Roy. Roy spins in the lane. Puts up the right hand shot. Good. That's a good look by Cage Roy. Skipper also checked in the game for Florence. Lead at six. 16 and 10. Bears go to inside on the paint. Trying to get Burnett. Burnett forces a turnover. He used the in line as his other defender. The jacket's off for Dylan Burleson. Love it. Would not know anything about this team. He's coaching just like he did any other year. And I love it. Pearson. Yo-yos with a dribble. Kicked it out. Burnett for three. Short. No good. Rebound taken by the Bears. Robinson will bring it up the floor. He'll pull from three. Missed everything too. That one goes out of bounds. Back to Florence. This 60 Valley team has green lights. I don't think there's any red lights between Tuscaloosa and Florence. They've been coming with green lights. Every time they get the ball, they can shoot it from anywhere. Under two minutes to go. 16 to 10. They lead Florence. Falcons with the basketball though. Pearson directing traffic against the man-to-man pressure. Roy got a step. If he go, he didn't see it though. He did everything right, but didn't go to the basket. Kicked it back out to Pearson. Then now throw it away. Pearson said, that's on me. Cage had a shot. He did everything right. Just didn't go hard to the basket. 16 to 10. Six-point lead for 60 Valley. And they'll invite it in front of their bench. And Warren will run the point now. And Burski will pick him up. And they'll come with the trap. Burski doing a good job of picking him backcourt. Brown has him backcourt now. And there's the 10-second. Nope. Timeout taken. Forced to timeout. We'll do the same. 114 to go in the first. Florence trails 16 to 10. Come back and see us in 30. Hello. My name is Deborah Bell Passeur. Kevin Johnson with you on the air-flying solo on this Saturday night. Sipsy Valley leads it by six and has the basketball front court. Three on the way. In and out. No good. It went halfway down and came out for Warren. Rebound taken by Florence. I'll tell you what, you can't leave Sipsy Valley open often. There goes Pearson in the lane. Kicked it out to Roy. He'll try the three. That one front rim. No good. Burnett goes high for the rebound and is fouled. Burnett's skying up there as the freshman gets up, shows his athleticism, gets the rebound. JC on Payne checking into the game for Florence. Knight will check in for the Bears. Berski will come out for Florence. So it'll be Roy Pearson, Skipworth, Burnett, and Payne on the floor for Florence. And they get it inside to Roy. They missed the shot, but he's fouled. Great set play. I love when you see great set plates from out of underneath the basket. And that time it was on the back side. Throw it from the left side over to the right side. Don't see that often, but he bounced it across the lane. Roy caught it, but missed the shot. And he missed the free throw. 16 to 10 and remains there with 50 seconds to go in the first. Second free throw. Got that one. One to two. Now the Falcons changing up their defense a little bit. Looking to come a little trout. Falcons went for the steal. Couldn't get it. Knight double team. Gets rid of it finally to go underneath. Got a guy wide open. Put the shot up, put it in. So they break it, go up, make the basket. And come the Falcons down the other way. Roy, kick it over to Skipworth. Skipworth gets it back out to Payne. That last basket was by Jackson, Dennis Jackson of Simpsie Valley. 15 seconds. And Pearson will get ready to play for the last shot at the 15-second mark now. Gets it to Skipworth at the three-throw line. In the corner, Payne for three. Missed it. No good. Rebound taken by Simpsie Valley. They throw it away right here. Roy gets it. Gets it back to Florence down the floor. Another three on the way. That one wouldn't go. It went halfway down for Burnett. Fell out. And one quarter's in the books. And the Bears lead the Falcons. 18 to 11. This is Falcon basketball. We're back in 30. Getting the kids to practice on time. Remembering if it's your day to bring snacks. Making it to the game with a clean jersey. Why are simple things sometimes so complicated? Thankfully, with auto owners, insurance doesn't have to be one of them. Auto owners works with independent agents who answer when you call. So you can worry about more important things. Like whether your kid is going to run toward first or third base. That's simple human sense. In Florence, see Luke Brown at Hinderger, Johnson & Layton Insurance. Call 256-764-8682. The voice of the Florence High School Falcons. WYTK-FM. Rogersville. Athens. Decatur. The Shoals. 93.9. The score. One quarter in the books for Florence Falcons basketball on this Saturday night special. Happy 2026. New year to you. Hope you and your family have a prosperous new year. Kevin Johnson on the call tonight solo. Florence trails. Tipsy Valley 16 or 18-11. Excuse me. Tipsy Valley will have the basketball. This Florence missed two. Good look to three. To end the quarter. So the Bears will have it. Florence in the home white. The Bears in the road. Black and gold. Black jerseys with the gold numbers. Florence with a good trap again. Knight throws it cross court though. Gets it to Brown. Brown goes hard to the basket. Laid it up. Too strong. Rebound. Takedown by Roy of Florence. So Florence trying to force the issue a little bit. White for Florence has it. Jaden White spinning. Nice little look. Use his big body. Laid it up. Block. Gets it back. Tipped around. Can't get it. Irons got it. Kicked it out. Three on the way. That one's good. That's from Jones. Taylin Jones drains the three. And here's the Falcons. That pressure again. Trailer now 18 to 14. Front court with it is Robinson. Picked up here by Irons. Robinson keeps the dribble alive. Hands it off now. Hesitation look. Brown kicks it back over to the corner. Going baseline. Shot up. No good. Lost it. Going up in the air. And a whistle and a foul. And I think it should be against Sipsey Valley. And it is. Jackson went over the back of Irons. So Florence has picked up the pressure a little bit on defense. 18 to 14. Florence down by four. Payne. Gets the call from his head coach. And he's fouled on the way. Oh, he caught it on his hip. Said he caught it on his hip. And that's a turnover. Was trying to dribble and caught it on his hip. So that's a turnover. So it goes back to Sipsey Valley. The official was adamant and strong on the call. So I tip my hat to him on that. Knight gets the step. Goes into the lane. And he's fouled on the way to the basket. And they're going to give him free throws. Foul will be on Roy. His first. And Knight will shoot free throws now. Kaden Knight. Where's number five? First free throw. Back room. No good. Good crowd on hand for these games today. Especially this night session. I think it's an Alabama-Mississippi set up here at the end. If I'm not mistaken. I think it's Spain Park and Columbus, Mississippi. But I'll double check that. So forgive me. Maybe give an erroneous information there. Second free throw by Knight. He's in and out on that one too. No good. To 0 for 2. And Florence will take it. Down by 4. Payne gets the rebound. Brings it up the floor. To Irons. To Pearson. He's back in the game. Pearson says, let's set it up. Bounce pass left. Man-to-man pressure still there. Pearson driving in the paint. Put up the shot. Got it to go. Cleared out a little bit with a shoulder. Got it to go. And the lead down to 2. It's close to Florence being down the floor though. Shot put up. Won't go. But they're going to get Payne on the foul. And they do. That's number 2. And one guy that you can't get in foul trouble with your floor is J.C. Odd Payne. 5-18 to go here. Or 6-18 to go here in the first half. Two free throws coming. Back rim no good for C.J. Head. Decision time now for Dylan Burleson. Does he leave Burleson in and roll the dice a little bit? He's thinking about it here on the bench. You think he's going to keep him in for another possession or two? Don't know if it helps to tell the player that you've got two fouls or not. It's good to give them the information. But does that change their demeanor? Not sure. Second free throw. Head gets that one to go. He's 1-2. 1916. 60 Valley. It's led by as much as 8. Lead it down by 3. Pearson front court to White. Back to Pearson. Lobbing it up to White on the alley-oop. And it's beautiful. And White catches it. Puts it in. Don't need to dunk it. Nice little set play there. Trims it to 1. Knight front court picked up by Jones. Good defense by Jones there. Brown had it. Poked away. Stolen away by Pearson. Oh, my goodness. What a play by Pearson. 1-on-3. To the basket. Goes up with the left hand. Wouldn't go. Tipped up in. It goes in. That's White running the floor. And Florence has battled back here. And taken a one-point lead. Quick three on the other end, though. Ends that within about 10 seconds. That's Brown who drains it from downtown. Downtown, Cornelius Brown. Irons in the paint. Deep. Goes up and under. Laid it up. Put it in. Great play by Irons. He really showed a veteran move there. Got everybody off their feet and went to the other side of the rim and put it up with the left hand. Tied at 22. 5-10 to go here in the first half. Brown has been outstanding for Sipsey Valley. Top of the key. Don't take it there. Swings it over to Nels. Nels has it shooting. Now he gets it inside. Driving his night. Night lost it. Ball on the floor. Oh, what a play by Pearson. He couldn't get it, but he poked it away as far as he could. But the Bears were quicker to the basketball. Brown in front court. Picked up by Jones. Boy, he is as quick as everything. And shoots it at the top of the key and nails it. Brown can play. That's 11 for him. He's a scorer. I love his game. Can't lie. He elevates and shoots and creates. And he has speed. He's fun to watch. Pearson in the corner to Jones. Jones couldn't get the baseline. Brings it back up top. White reverses it to Pearson on the right side. Pearson at the free throw line. Double, triple teamed. Skips through again. Kicked it back out. Three on the way. That one's good. That's Jones. Back to back threes. And timeout taken by Sipsi Valley. We'll do the same. Florence leads it by one. 25, 24. 4-12 to go in the half. This is Falcon Basketball. We're back in 30. Flavor is calling at Lost Pizza Company Shoals. Introducing the new limited time only Margarita Pizza. Fresh basil, fine ripened tomatoes, and creamy mozzarella pearls on our homemade crust. Cotton blues cheesecake slices are here. Creamy, dreamy, and downright legendary. These flavors won't stick around forever. Only at Lost Pizza Company Shoals. Where the lost get fed. Four minutes, 12 seconds to go. 4-1-2. In the first half. Florence battles back. Leads Sipsi Valley. 25-24. Behind a couple of back-to-back threes. From Taylin Jones. Florence has hit three threes, but boy, this Sipsi Valley team lives at the three-point line. Down the floor. Knight kicks it around. Brown's open. Boy, you've got to know where he is at all times. He is a phenomenal shooter. Knight goes to the right side. Niles has it. Gets it to Knight. Irons now has drawn Brown, trying to save him from that deep three again on the way. That one's in and out. A great box out in there by Pearson. And Irons gets the rebound. Pearson brings it up to the floor. Crossover dribble. Euro step. In the lane. Lost it. Went up in the air. That just went out of his hands. He had the right idea, and it just left him. Turn over. It goes back to the Bears, but they lose it on the floor. And on the floor, getting it. It's Skipworth. Down the floor to Burnett. No time? Nope. He'll lay it up and in. I love it by the freshman. Zai Burnett lays it up and in. Falcons lead it by three. 27-24. Brown in the lane. Can't get the shot off. An NBA three on the way is good. That is from Niles. He gets the set shot from way downtown. Tied at 27. Burnett to Pearson in the other corners. He reverses it, and they skip it again. This time in there. Get it inside to Roy, who up and under, laid it in. Falcons lead it by two. 29-27. 2.45 to go. Real competitive game. Good game. Hesitation move. Can't get inside. Have to kick it back out to Knight. Knight swings it back around. Baseline move. Goes up. Lost it. Going up. Goes to Knight, though. He goes up and is fouled. Phillip Robinson is about six foot two and thinks he can go up against anyone. He is a high flyer. Brown goes around 6'1". Just looking. He may be a little taller than that, but, man, can he play. Knight will shoot free throws. First free throw, up and good. By Knight. Second free throw coming. With Adrian Scott getting his team together before the free throw and before the shot. A lane violation, so it wouldn't have mattered if he made it or not, but he missed it. They go back to Florence. Falcons still holding on to a one-point lead. 29-28 after trailing much of the first quarter. Falcons have battled back here in quarter number two. Now a 2-3 zone for the first time by the Bears. Burski in the game. Sets the screen. Skipworth. Good pass to Roy, but he got it blocked from behind by Robinson. And in Burski got the foul. And actually it was Head that got the block. This Sipsy Valley team has about three guys that are all built the same. They're all about 6'2", 6'1", 6'2", 6'3". They are. Boy, I tell you what. There's going to be a handful in five of them. Inside. Great pass by Knight. Shot blocked inside by Burnett. Where did he come from? I don't know. Falcons get the basketball. Pearson looking. Hands it off. Skipworth goes inside. Stolen away. Had the right idea of trying to go to Burski. Very unselfish. But a tremendous play there by Nalls who steals it for in Sipsy Valley. Knight trying to drive on Burski. And Burski did a great job and stole it away. Burski gets it to Pearson. Pearson slows it down. Speeds it up. Slows it down. Pearson. Euro step. Left hand shot. Good. Off the glass. And he's fouled. It looked awkward. It was awkward. But it was beautiful when it ended. The foul was on CJ Head, I believe. And the Falcons lead at 31-29. Or 31-28, excuse me. And Pearson trying to complete the three-point play. And he does. That was Jayshod being a wise, smart player. He got the players on his back. They knew he was going to get in there. Loved him to sleep. And finally flipped it up with the left hand and drew the contact and got it to go. Largest lead of the day for Florence at 4-32-28 here. Under a minute and have to go in the first half. And Irons playing tremendous defense. Baseline move by Robinson. Goes up. Lost it. No good. Tipped around. Out of bounds. It'll stay with Sipsy Valley. Brown and Knight are high flyers. Sipsy Valley to inbound it. The double comes. They get rid of it. Squick to the corner. Three on the way. Back rim. No good. Hit the guide wire at the top. And it'll go back to Florence. Payne will come in for Burstey. With a minute 12 to go. One thing about this Sipsy Valley team. They shoot a high arcing shot. Bunch of them. It's three or four guys going to shoot it. Two-three zone again. White. Kicks it over around. Swinging the ball. Roy looking up top. Payne. Payne in the corner. Pearson thought about the three. Didn't take it there. We're under a minute to go. Cross court. Three on the way. Back rim. No good. Rebound over the Falcons head. And rebound taken down by Knight. Falcons have boxed out pretty good. They come with a good trap. They cross court it to Brown. He's open. He drives in the lane. Up and under. Lost it from White. Blocked it away. Irons takes it away. Good job by Jaden White. Here come the Falcons with it. With 35 seconds to go. Leading it by four. And Coach Dylan Burleson behind me says one shot. On court side here. Right next to the bench. To my right. He gets the call from his head coach. With 20 seconds to go. Irons back to Pearson. If they play catch. 14 on the clock. To Irons. To Payne. Cross court to Pearson. And here we go. Pearson starts to make his move. Finds Payne. Payne. Inside. Wide open. Roy missed the shot. Because it was blocked. Tremendous play. Maybe one shot there. Half court. Knight will miss that one. At the end of one half. Florence battles back to lead. Tipsy Valley. 32 to 28. You're listening to Florence Falcon basketball on 93.9 the score. We're back in two minutes. Kevin Johnson with you flying solo today. It's Florence and Simpson Valley playing on the Saturday evening in Coffee Gym. Florence leads the team from down south, 32-28, in the Grind to Shine Tournament. A tournament where about, oh, I don't know, eight games maybe played. Let's see, maybe six to eight games played today, including some girls' games played earlier. And all classifications have been involved. I know when I got here today, this afternoon before this, when Whitesburg Christian was knocking off McAdory by about 25. So, Whitesburg Christian, really good team, by the way. They're an excellent team. So, my point being is it's a lot of fun. It gets players a chance to be seen by different people. And beyond that, it also exposes a lot of players to a lot of, around the area, a lot of players from a lot of other places as well. I know today, earlier, Florence girls took on Warrior County girls. I do not have results yet on these. I was trying to get these. I could not. Wayne County girls took on Walnut Grove girls. Oh, my goodness. Walnut girls, excuse me. That would have been something else between the Tennessee and Mississippi schools. Wayne County boys and Hubbardville boys played at 215 today. Tupelo was here today and played Franklin High School out of Tennessee. Whitesburg, as I said, took on McAdory before this one. And the nightcap tonight will be Columbus, Mississippi against Spain Park. And I would dare say you might would like to come by and see some good high school basketball. That's a lot of fun and very competitive. Those two teams will put on a show. So that should be a lot of fun today. So still have time to come for it. It's for a good cause. It helps everybody out in the high school sports. And I think you'd like being a part of it. Florence has hosted this now for the second year. And they lead this one at half, 32-28. Sipsy Valley, 8-9 on the season. But I don't know how after watching them, except they've played an extremely tough schedule. They are a talented team. They led it at the first quarter, 18-11. But Florence outscored Sipsy Valley, 19-10 in quarter number two. Sipsy Valley, led by C.J. Head, had one point. Phillip Robinson had five. Three for Gavin Knowles. Two for Caden Knight. Two for Dennis Jackson. Four points for Colin Warren. And then there's a young man by the name of Cornelius Brown. He's got 11 on the day. Only shot probably six times. Florence has done a good job of running him off the line to get him there. But he has one of the prettiest shots you'll see here today. And he's hit three threes. And that's why he leads them in scoring 11 points. Meanwhile, for Florence, six points from Taylor Jones, including two big three-pointers in the second quarter. Jason Payton hit a three to start the game in the first seven seconds. And after that, he only had two points for the rest of the half. He has five points so far. Three for Jason Pearson. Eight points for Cage Roy. That's good to see Roy getting his action in and getting there. Four points for Jaden White, who's played well today. Jaden Irons as well with two points. And Zion Burnett has two. We call him Zion Burnett. So, the Falcons are leading at the half, 32 to 28. Columbus, Mississippi, looks like they're getting ready to go and get ready for their game. And some sides over there. I can see they've got some big boys. We'll be getting ready for this one today as they get ready to play Spain Park. Already coming back out on the floor, Sipsi Valley. We're in the TNT fireworks halftime show. Don't forget, if I'm not mistaken, I think I will get in trouble with this, but I'm pretty sure following our broadcast, we'll join in progress the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Seattle Seahawks. What a big game that is for the number one seed in the NFC. That is a huge game tonight. So, we're looking forward to that as well. Baby Burleson comes over here to say hi to me. Oh, check that. Oh, we've got to make sure he got the wrong one. Didn't go out and sober fast enough. How about Baby Mullins come say hi to me there. They switched them up on me and I didn't know it. So, that's what it's fun to have a coaching staff that's got two or three little ones and you can't tell them apart sometimes when they come over to say hi to you. We're at the half on the TNT fireworks halftime show. Florence leaves at 32 to 28. We're back in two minutes. Florence Utilities now offers new bill pay options. Actually, Florence Middle School, I should say, technically. As the Florence Falcons get ready for second half action with the 60 Valley Bears, Florence leads at 32-28. Our next broadcast will be Friday night next week. The Falcons are on the road at Athens. They also have a game Monday night at home against Spartan. So you can come here and watch them play Spartan. We get pre-empted on that one that night. But a big game against Spartan on Monday night. So the Falcons turned the calendar and probably needed to. It was just a tough start to the 25th season. But a lot of teams would have folded up. Florence has not folded up. Matter of fact, I think they're playing harder today than I've seen them play all season. They are getting after it. Starting to learn each other, trust each other. The competition they played, game after game, has been very, very much high-quality competition. So we'll see how they do. In the second half, it gets a very good 60 Valley team. Florence wearing all white. Jayshon Pearson had a little something of a bandage on his arm, it looked like, on his left arm. And he comes out the second half and got a sleeve on. So just a, I don't know how to cut or something to make sure. So he's got it all covered up. Falcons have the basketball going left to right as you listen to us. Hope you're enjoying this one today on 93.9 to score. White. Cross court. Boy, Jones had a catch. That was a fastball. Topane for three. In and out. No good. Irons got the rebound amongst trees. Pulls it down and it's fouled. They're going to get that one on Robinson. Nobody really in foul trouble for either team. Payne has two for Florence. Pearson inbounded underneath the basket. Flips it up to the top of the key to White. Swings around to Payne. To the corner. Ball movement's quick. Got it to Jones. Back over in the corner. Three by White. He put it up. No good. Rebound chase down. No by the Bears. That wasn't a bad looking shot by White. Knight front court. Swings it around. Brown from downtown Florence. No good. He finally missed one. Rebound chase down. Good job of Jaden White. Jaden White is in basketball shape now. You can see that. He looks a lot different. Kicked it back out from Pearson to Payne. He goes in the paint. Should have shot it. Didn't do it. Instead goes back out. They go down in the paint to White. Put it up. Put it in. So White gives the Falcons a six-point lead. Front court. The Bears have it. Oh, near still by White. But it's taken down by the Bears. Three on the way is good. Go for the steal. Didn't get it. Warren made them pay. Falcons in front court. Lead it by three. 34-31. Pearson dribbling. Trying to get into the paint. Up and under. Can't do it. Kicked it in the corner. White bounce pass inside. The Irons lost it. Was trying to get his footing. Lost it. He knocked it away. Nearly stole it away. But it's retrieved by Robinson. For the Bears in the corner. Another three by Warren. No good this time. And a rebound by Florence. Good defense. Good box out. Pearson brings it up the floor. Surveys traffic. Stops at the top of the key. In the lane. Your old layup. Put up the left-hand shot. No good. Got the rebound back. Look. Went up and knocked out of bounds. Foul call. He'll shoot two. That one will be called against Brown. And to the free throw line will be the senior J. Shod Pearson. Who before it's all said and done will about have played as much basketball as anyone that's worn a Florence Falcon uniform. At least it seems like it. That one in and out. No good. Second free throw. Missed them both. Rebound brought down by the Bears. I don't think they're the Black Bears. They're just the Sipsy Valley Bears. Knight brings it up the floor. Irons went for the steal. But Irons got the wrist instead. Robinson. Irons picks up his number two. 5.57 to go in the third. Bears have to throw it in back court. Jones will pick up Knight. Who tries to go baseline. Lost into the paint. Good defense. Taken away by Irons. Excuse me. Taken away by Payne. Who blows by the defense and lays it in. He was just coasting along. And all of a sudden he kicked it in another gear. He is special. Time out. Taken by the Bears. Florence leads at 36-31. Falcon basketball returns in 30. So you can worry about more important things. Like whether your kid is going to run toward first or third base. That's simple human sense. In Florence, see Luke Brown at Henniger Johnson & Layton Insurance. Call 2-5-6-7-6-4-8-6-8-2. 5-39 to go here in the third quarter. Kevin Johnson on the call. 93-9 to score. The home of Florence Falcons Athletics. Florence leads at 36-31. And 60 Valley will have the basketball. They throw a cross-court pass to Brown who gets into the paint. Up and under. Threw it away. Stolen away by Irons. Irons right now brings it up to the floor. Slows it up. Gets it to Roy to Pearson. Pearson said, okay, let's survey and see what happens. Pearson takes a step into the paint. And they call traveling. That might be the right call. So turnover Florence. Jayshodd wasn't sure about that. He was looking for contact. Didn't get the call. And Florence is staying in this little trapping zone they've got right now. At midcourt. Knight gets rid of it. And they cross it over from Robinson to Knight. Knight back to Robinson. Robinson in the corner. That's Warren. He's a great scorer. Goes to the basket. Put it up short. No good. Rebound taken down by Florence. Good job by Jones in there. Getting the rebound. Pearson front court. Pearson dribble. Hand off to Roy. Outside the art. Roy hard to the basket. Left-hand shot. No good. Rebound by Irons. He's going to line to shoot two. Jayden Irons is not tall. He is only 6'2". That is tall. Not compared to some of the players we play in 7'8". But Jayden Irons is strong. Ain't going to be stronger. But I don't think his base is real strong. Played linebacker in football. And now go to the free throw line to shoot two. Looks good on that free throw. Nice shot. Falcons lead it by six now. After trailing at the end of the first by seven, Irons easily knocks down the second. Both of those shots hit nothing but net. That was a good-looking free throws by Irons. Falcons stay in that little trap at half court. Knight gets across the half court strike. Florence will back away. Play straight man-to-man. Knight to Warren on the left wing. Warren into the paint. Got a step. Shot up. Short. No good. Pearson got the rebound. And Pearson stepped on the baseline. Didn't realize it. But he stepped on the baseline. So, to go back to the Bears wearing their black and gold. Inbounds to Robinson. Back out to Knight. And go to Robinson on the post. Robinson fadeaway jumper up. No good. Rebound by Roy. Roy gets it off to Payne. Payne to Pearson. Jayshod got the screen. Oh, he has Payne open. Now he gets it to him. Three on the way. That's good. Double figures now for Jayshod. Jayshod, excuse me. Jayshod Payne has 10. Florence leads it by 10. 41-31. After training by as many as 10 in the day. Layup put up and wild shot by Knight. But it goes in. That's the first two-point basket of the quarter for the Bears. Spinning the lane. Jones fadeaway. Good. Kalen Jones has eight. Lead back to 10 again. Knight for the Bears in front court. Picks up his dribble. Gets rid of it. Left wing. Robinson. Falcons defense is being really good in quarters two and three. Ball knocked away. Stolen away. Pearson has it. Pearson up the floor. Looking. Help. Goes to the basket. Used his body. Laid it up. No good. No call. Put it up anyway then. That was Irons who picked it up and put it in. Lawrence leaves it now 45-33 with three minutes to go in the third quarter. What a reversal from the first quarter. Down by seven. Now lead by 12. A lot of it is because of what I see right now. Taylon Jones has really taken Brown out of the game. Brown spinning the lane. Puts up a wild shot. No good. And Jones got the rebound. Taylon Jones has been a tremendous defender. Front court. Rock. Payne. Showed the three. Didn't take the three. Got it back to Irons. Laid it up. Put it in. Selfish basketball right there. How about Irons with nine points. And how about timeout by the City Valley. They've seen enough. Florence on a run. Leads it by 14-47-33 with 2.39 to go here in the third quarter. This is Falcon basketball. We're back in one minute. Here at the Coffee Gym on the campus of Florence Middle School, hosting today's Grind to Shine Tournament Games. Florence leads it 47-33 over Sipsey Valley Bears from just outside of Tuscaloosa, Alabama about a little bit. I know they're in the region down there with Northside High School. We had a tremendous football season, by the way. Sipsey Valley had not lost a region game in years. And Northside finally knocked the ball. But you can look at these athletes from Sipsey Valley, you know why. They are talented. Florence, though, has turned the tables after trailing 18-11. Now they lead at 47-33. Ball nearly thrown away. Retrieved by Robinson. Florence coming out with a different-looking defense. Trapping there. Really giving the Bears trouble. Run their motion offense. Warren steps through the defender. Puts up the 15-footer, and that's a pretty shot. Colin Warren drains it. Only the seventh point of the quarter for the Bears. Burski, good ball movement. Keep it in the corner. Three on the way. Knock it down. Give the assist to Burski. Burnett for three. Tremendous ball movement by Florence. They lead it 50-35. Dylan Burleson really imploring his team to keep playing defense. Knight. Oh, Burski went for the steal. Didn't quite get it. They move the ball to North. He tries. Can't get it. Knocked away. Stolen away. Skipworth with it. Brings it up the floor. Skipworth. Bounce pass beautifully to Burski. Laid it in. He drew two defenders. Gave it back to Burski. That's a great play by Skipworth and a great finish by Burski. And if Lawrence leaves it now, 52-35, their largest lead of the day. Love that play by Skipworth there. Ball near the slow lane is stolen away by White. Jayden White to the basket. Jayden White slams it with one hand. Hello, Florence, Alabama. Wow. Did not see that one coming. He went up with authority and knocked that one down. Deep three by Warren. Shot short. No good. Rebound taken down by Florence. White has it. White had it knocked away and it goes back to Sipsey Valley. White wanted to get rid of it. He didn't know if he could dribble or not. And all this coach was saying, just dribble out. 54-35. And the highlight may be that one hand jam by Jayden White, the defensive tackle, who's trimmed down a little bit since football season and went up and just hammered it home. Sipsey Valley lobs it in. Driving hard at the basket and a foul call. And that is on White. Pushed early. As he was guarding there, CJ Head. Should be before the shot. Oh, no, they're going to give free throws. 45 seconds to go here. CJ Head will shoot two. He wears number two. First one of the way. No good. Lawrence's lead up to 19, 54-35. This Falcon team needed a game like this a little bit. They can close this one out in the fourth quarter. After what they've been through. Second free throw, no good. Rebound tipped around. Chased down. Still fought for it. Goes right to a bare player. He puts it in. That's Warren. He's got a nice shot. He's in double figures. He has 11 to lead the Bears now. But Lawrence still leading it. 54-37. Skipworth behind the back. Brings it back out with 25 seconds. Burnett. Burnett to Burski. Your coach, Dylan Burleson, saying play for one shot. White has it top of the key. White gets rid of it finally to Burnett with 12 seconds. Burnett in the lane. Burnett stops. Puts it up. Puts it in. He's got seven on the day. Two seconds. One second. They don't know it. They shoot it from half court and nearly make it. But it won't go. And after three, Florence up 56-37 over Sipsey Valley. This is Soccer and Basketball. We're back in one minute. Flavor is calling at Lost Pizza Company Shoals. Introducing the new limited-time-only margarita pizza. Fresh basil, fine-ripened tomatoes, and creamy mozzarella pearls on our homemade crust. One quarter left in this one. Lawrence leads it. 56-37 over Sipsey Valley. Sipsey Valley will have the basketball. Berski, Roy, Burnett, Jones, and Skipworth will start the fourth quarter for Florence. He played well in the last two minutes. There's the trap. Nearly stolen away. It is stolen away. Burnett to the basket. Burnett laid it up with the left hand. He's fouled. Dylan Burleson coaching constantly. You would think it was a, well, that's why you win. That's why you get to the state championship games when you coach the same way, no matter the score, no matter the opponent. Burnett, the freshman, will shoot two. First one all the way. Then we'll go. Second one from Burnett. Oh, it wouldn't go either. Roll it out. He had both good looks. He just wouldn't fall. The freshman, though, it's going to be, well, he already is pretty good. He's going to be real special if he keeps going the right direction. Sipsey Valley with the basketball. Florence with the big lead, though, right now. Leading it by 19. Good move there inside. Lost it out of bounds. They forced Sipsey Valley to put it on the floor. That's not their game. There's a couple of guys that do it, but not all of them. Florence has speeded up Sipsey Valley and really caused some trouble. Here's the trap coming from Sipsey Valley. Florence recognizes it. Roy gets it back to Skipworth. Good ball movement here in the corner. Driving baseline. Nowhere to go with it. Kicked it back out to Roy. Roy takes a step. Put it up. No good. Burski with a rebound. Burski shot rejected. And coming out of there is the Bears with it. Down the floor, though. Niles puts up a deep three and makes it. In transition. 56 to 40. 16-point game. Corner three from Burnett. He answers on the other end. Burnett now in double figures with 10. Front court. Sipsey Valley with it. Niles has it. Warren drives it inside. Look at Burski fight for the ball in there. Can't get it. Still on the floor. Burski comes out of there with it. Burski is a big, strong character. He gets rid of it. Threw it away. He was looking for two guys. And one crisscrossed him. Threw it away. The coach must have quick assist to Burski. That's not a bad play. Good minutes from bench players there. Of Burski, Skipworth, and Roy. They'll be replaced by Payne, Irons, and Pearson, who will join Jones on the floor and Burnett. And Burnett steals it away. And Burnett's got a chance. Goes up and missed the jam. Went with the left hand, but it would not go. And it goes back to the Bears. That's not a bad look. At 59-40, he had a step. I don't mind that at all. Warren up the floor. Pushing. He gets fouled at the time. That might be a little bit of a frustration foul. And Burnett, who missed the dunk, will make something happen. That's a teaching moment later on for this coaching staff with the youngster. The Bears will inbound it underneath their basket. 6-0-2 to go here in the game. Warren has it in the corner. He'll take a deep three and miss it. No good. Great box out by Florence. And what a play by Jones. He was falling down. He tipped it over to Irons. Irons will bring it up the floor. Irons says, nope, let's give it back to Jones and reset. Payne has it now way outside. And says, let's see everybody spread out and spread it up. Burnett for three. No good. There's no conscience there. He gets it. He wants to shoot it. And he's just a scorer. Rebound in the corner. Trouble. Irons did a good job of doubling up. But the Bears get out of there with it. Down the floor. Warren kicks it out. Three ball on the way from the Bears. It's up and good. That's one of their better looks in the past few minutes. His head drains the three. Down the floor. Irons spinning in the lane. Shot blocked. Here come the Bears with it. 59-43. Still 5-12 to go. The Bears on a little bit of a run. Head lost it though out of bounds. Roy will come in along with White. Irons and Burnett will come out. I just love the little thing. I know it sounds weird to say, but when those two young men came in, Roy and White, they waited for the two guys they checked in for to come to the bench, high-fived both of them as they come out, and then went out to get ready for where they're supposed to be. It's small things like that that shows you culture change. Ball movement. Beautiful. Payne, three. Beautiful. It's good. Oh, that was a thing of beauty. The ball skipped and skipped and skipped and finally hindered Payne's hands and he drains the three. And the lead down 62-43. Niles for Sipsy Valley. Back out to Knight to Warren. He'll take the deep three on the way. That one won't go. Rebound taken by Payne of Florence. Jason, hesitation in the lane. Right-hand shot would go. Put back by White is good. Maybe my player of the game right now is Jayden White. He's got 10. Up the floor, Sipsy Valley with it. Approaching the four-minute mark. Niles drives and is fouled. It'll be on the floor. Not sure they call that on. It was Kevante Green checking the game. Shot up. No good. Put back. Good. And I may have to do some fact-checking here in a minute. My apologies. Layup put up by Payne. Pearson, no good. Payne couldn't make it. Rebound fall forward. Finally, foul call. No timeout taken by Florence. We'll do the same. Florence leads it 64-45. This is basketball. Learn more at nabjc.com. 3.43 to go in the game. Florence leading it 64-45. Kevontae Kareem and Kevin Johnson may go out to lunch this next week. I may owe him one. He is wearing number 10 tonight. He's the one that had the dunk. He's the one that's had the rebounds. He's the one. I said he slimmed up. He changed numbers, so he's wearing number 10 now. And Kevontae has been outstanding for Florence. So, my apology to Mr. Green, and I will eat my words on that one. Did not double-check my facts before I came to the score table. Been on the road doing games today already. So, my apologies to Kevontae Green. Inbounds pass to Jones. Jones kicks it back out. That's Kevontae Green. He goes up. And, oh, my goodness, he tried to jam it over to three bears, but it comes back for him. No good. Jones got the rebound. Put it in. If Kevontae Green had made that jam, I would have owed him a stake. Quickly up the floor. Warren to Nalls for three. No good. Rebound tipped around out of bounds. They're going to stay with Sipsey Valley. I was so worried in getting Sipsey Valley's lineup that I didn't really double-check the Florence lineup. And then I was like, wait a minute. About third quarter, I finally started realizing something there. And, yep, it was my ball. Three ball on the way. No good. Rebound taken down by Kevontae Green. Green up the floor. Kicks it in the corner. Dove for three on the way. That's good. That's Jason on the way. 69-45, under three to go. Florence stays man-to-man. The defense has been outstanding for Florence. And that's a three finally made by Jackson. Dennis Jackson gets the three on the board for Sipsey Valley. Ball knocked out of bounds. It'll stay with the boys in white from Florence. They trailed 18-11 after one. Led it by four after two. In the third quarter, they put this thing away. Leading at 56-37. Right now, they lead at 69-48. And not sure what that was. Did they call a timeout? Yep. Florence called a timeout. We'll do the same. 2-57 to go in the game. 2-37 to go in the game. Florence up big over Sipsey Valley. This is Falcon basketball back in 60. Well, a lot of NFL games tomorrow here on 93-94 as well. Our next broadcast next Friday night on the road at Athens. So Florence will inbound it. Underneath their basket. In the corner, they get it. And these are teaching moments right now. Jones has it to Payne. Back to Jones. Oh, stolen away. Great play there. Got the steal and lost it coming down the court and then turned back over. CJ Head was thinking, I'm going to go jam it. And he got his feet going and the ball went ahead of him and he lost it. And then it goes back to Florence. Bears pick up full court. Pearson in backcourt behind the back dribble. Gets rid of it to Jones. Green goes baseline. He lost it going up. Kicked it back out though. Good help there. Pearson into the paint. Nowhere to go with it. Kicked it back out. Payne for three. Yep. J.C. on with his fifth three of the day. That's 19 unofficially. Jackson will drive for 60 Valley. His shot's no good. And rebound by Roy. Roy will bring it up to the floor. Roy all the way to the basket. No good on the layup. Out of bounds. Last touch. He goes back to, I think, Florence. And now substitutions for all those who came in. Five for five. Irons, Burnett, Burski in the game, Skipworth in the game, and Lewis. They get the end to Lewis. Lewis goes up with the left hand. He's fouled. Nice play by J.B. and Lewis. Lawrence leads it 72-48 with a minute 40 to go. First free throw is good. Second free throw. Got them both. His first points of the day. But, man, it always feels good when you get your name in the scorebook. Minute 30 to go here in this one. Florence handily in the lead. And Burski gets the steal after it was knocked away by his teammate. Burski to Skipworth. Back to Burski. Back to Skipworth. He didn't want it there. Skipworth, though, lays it up. It wouldn't go. Burski got the rebound. Put it up. Wouldn't go. Rebound by Irons. He put it in. Irons has 10. Minute 10 to go in the game. Florence up 76-48. D-3 by Niles. It's good. And they're going to have to fix the nets. That's good. That's something that everybody's like, you've got to be kidding me. He stripped the nets. I mean, when you heard about strip, they stripped them good. Shot blocked on one hand by the Bears. 50 seconds ago. I don't think they'll work on those nets until after this game's over. Niles, who broke the nets earlier, will try another one. Rebound no good. And here comes Burnett with it for Florence. Burnett with a head of steam. Goes to the basket. Left-hand layup's good. Goodness gracious. He is so fast with the basketball. 78-51. Niles has it again. He'll try another three. Missed out with no good. Falcons have the rebound. Burnett will have it. And he'll walk it up the floor. And they won't have to shoot another time. And Florence is going to come away with a win here. In the grind to shine. My score is 78-51. He'll just hold it there. And that will do it. So Florence knocks off Sipsey Valley. 78-51. And a good win for the Florence Falcons to get this one today. Over a very talented team from Sipsey Valley. And to get the win. We may have a little delay for the Spain Park game. Because we're going to have to fix the nets before that one. It's been a while since I've seen that happen. But they definitely stripped the nets. So both teams congratulating each other on this one. Good sportsmanship. And best of luck to Coach Adrian Scott and the Sipsey Valley Bears as they go forward. They fall tonight. 78-51. To the Florence Falcons. Joined now courtside by Head Coach Dylan Burleson. And Coach, a slow start. But a great last three quarters that you showed a lot of grit and determination. And it's just good to get that one under your belt right there. I know your team had enjoyed it. You did too. It really was. You know, I don't know that many games like this that we've had that we've been in a position like that. Right? And for whatever reason. And that's no discredit to, you know, Sipsey Valley. But, you know, I didn't think our guys started well. And we are still trying to find an answer for that. We're going to continue to work and find solutions. But I thought our guys really came back. We were up four, I think, at halftime. I thought in the third quarter we kind of broke it open. But even though, like, our response in the second quarter was really good. So glad we responded. I thought that was a big plus for our guys. Had some guys step up. And I thought our guys saw some shots go in. Need to be a little better defensively as far as rebounding goes. But proud of our guys. Lots of guys got into the action. And lots of guys contributed in many ways. You've got to like this team is still buying in and fighting game after game the way they have done. It was impressive to watch tonight. Extremely impressive. And listen, like, I'll be at the head of the snake. Like, you know, our record is not what we want it to be right now. But our guys are continuing to come every single day to practice, to film, to wait, and continue to improve and get better. Because I can say this. There's probably a lot of players and teams that would be in the position that we're in right now with the record the way it is to just throw in the towel. Our guys are not like that. We play a tournament sport, which that's not saying that, you know, what we do in the regular season doesn't matter. But it truly doesn't matter because we play a one-game season, and it's about how much we improve. Tonight, your team gets the win over Simpson Valley. I know sometimes you get to the new year, and it's just a turn of the page. Did you talk to your team about that a little bit? We did. We did. We talked tonight, obviously, being the first game of 2026. But we get a chance to turn the page. And we've got three really good games next week. Spartan at home on Monday night and Athens on the road on Friday. And then Taryn back here on Saturday, let's be us. Let's get back to being us. And I thought we were us for the majority of the night. Again, I want us to start a little better. But I thought our guys really responded in the second and coming out of halftime. Proud of our effort. Coach, congratulations. Go celebrate with your team. Appreciate it. The head coach of the Florence Falcons, Coach Dylan Burleson. His team wins tonight over Simpson Valley by the score of 78 to 51. Let's take a 30-second timeout. We come back. We'll wrap it up. This is Falcon basketball. Leading scores for Simpson Valley Bears who fall to 8-10 on the season. Cornelius Brown had 11 and also 13 from Colin Warren to lead the Bears in scoring tonight. Meanwhile, for the Florence Falcons, you had 10 points for Taylon Jones. You had 19 points from Jaycee on Payne, 3 from Jaycee on Payne, you had 8 points from Cage Roy, 10 points from Kevante Green. You had 10 points from Jayden Irons, and you had 12 points from Zylan Burnett, 2 from Boberski, and 2 from JVN Lewis. The Falcons win it. Get the win. They're 1-0 in 2026. That's the way they look at it. They've had a tough road of it in 2025 to start the season. I like the way you flipped it on that. Say, hey, let's start it over. Let's get things going in the right direction. And the Falcons have, and they'll get ready to host Spartan Monday night. A great game here. Looking forward to that one. Should be a lot of fun. And then turn around and play Friday night at Athens. And we'll have that Friday night game at Athens with you coming up next week.
