It's time for the Valley's exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Daniels quick out left side, trying to make a man miss, they do. Ball, ball, get down and it's a tackle, it's a fumble, and Alabama's got it. Alabama forces the fumble, takes it away. Deontay lost it and the Tigers turns away the Tigers. Oh, mercy. Simpson from the pistol. Did it go hard count again? No, they're going to snap it. Looking, tie, fires, catch, touchdown! Isaiah Horton with the ground and Alabama goes back on top with 3.50 remaining. They got to throw it, Bama's chasing him. He's tripped, fires downfield, catches made. We got it to the ground and hallelujah, it's over. John Zapier with the stop. It's zeroes on the clock and Alabama is headed to Atlanta again and played that song. Final score, Alabama 27, Auburn 20. The tie advances to the SEC championship game for the 16th time in school history. The golden tones of the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Chris Stewart, what a game, what a week, what a month. Brett Beaird, welcome in. The question is, how in the world can we repeat December after a November to always live in legacy? Good afternoon, welcome in, and how are you? Happy Monday and happy December to you and the listeners. It seems like that game was two weeks ago after a historic day in the SEC on Sunday. As five new coaches were hired and one gets fired, Mark Stoobbs at Kentucky. We'll discuss the coaching changes at length throughout the show. Thomas of Aon.com previews the Super 7 beginning Wednesday night. Adam is here right now to recap some of those coaching changes in his final SEC power rankings. I don't know how in the world we're possibly going to top what happened over the weekend. Adam Spencer is going to give it his best shot. He's busy there at Saturday down south. Adam, welcome in. It seems like it's been a month of Sundays ago since Tom Turkey was nervous. A lot has happened, certainly since the last time we all got together, and even since the last time we had Thanksgiving meals together. Adam, where in the world do you start breaking down this Monday after on this first day of December? Yeah, I mean, I think you've got to start with Lane Kiffin, you know. You've got to start with the Nessie of Sticks first. And, yeah, I mean, what a weekend it was. I mean, we saw, you know, working the news desk at Saturday down south. I've just never had a day like that before in my, like, nearly 10 years of covering the SEC. So, you know, what a wild day. It all started with Lane, who tried to dictate the terms of his exit. And Ole Miss said, no, thank you. And here we are. So, I mean, that's, yeah, I don't know what else we want to say about that. But let's dive in. Let's give it the best shot there anyway, Adam. Obviously, the league basically flipped a third of their head coaches in one day, basically one afternoon. We want to talk about, here's the deal. We're in Alabama, and there's a brand new air on the way to Auburn. But Lane, being Lane, he wanted to steal the show, and he did. The media, the world said, Lane, you're the only show that matters. So, let's start with that. Your thoughts about that, is this, people say, is it going to work? Well, of course it's going to work if he can go in and get the staff that he wants. I said this before, the reason Nick Saban was so successful, he was able to recruit not only the best players, but the best assistants. Nick Saban had a different selling point in the context of his cycle. Lane Kiffin, where are you with Lane going forward? There's no question he's going to be successful if he can surround himself. But I don't think Lane, I'm sorry, he's not a hard worker. He's a smart worker. He knows how to surround himself with people who can get the job done. But how many people are going to sit here and say, Lane, I had one image of you before this, but you basically left your players at the altar? Oh, yeah, he's completely ruined the goodwill that he's built up over the past decade, starting with the Nick Saban coaching rehab clinic, you know. So, yeah, he's going to have to work hard to rebuild his image with recruits, with boosters, with all that stuff. I mean, LSU is happy to have him, and they should be, because he is a great offensive mind. And it sounds like he's bringing Charlie Weiss, his offensive coordinator, with him. So, I mean, that's a big part of this. Like, he got, you know, the guy that's been calling the plays. You know, Lane has final say, of course, but Charlie Weiss Jr. is the one that's been calling the plays for the offense. So, that's a big get now. It would be pretty funny. I mean, it sounds like he wants to keep, you know, Blake Baker there in LSU. But I saw, you know, we'll see how serious it is. But I saw some mentions of Blake Baker with the Tulane job. So, how funny would that be if Lane gets LSU and then Blake Baker leaves for Tulane? So, I mean, that's going to be big. He's going to have to recruit that defensive staff to stay because Baker has improved that side of the ball significantly this year. So, you know, we'll see how that goes. But, you know, as far as Ole Miss goes, there's two sides to this. You know, Connor O'Gara, my colleague, he wrote that, you know, praise Ole Miss for handling this the right way and drawing a hard line in the sand. You know, I couldn't disagree with him more on that, which is, you know, pretty interesting. Like, I think if you have a chance to win a national championship, you go for it. You keep, if Lane, I don't care if Lane takes every single player and every single assistant after that. If you win a national title, like, that's, you've got to go for it. And that's where I stand on it. But here's the deal. He's in position right now to win one. You know, he's had more success in LSU since he's been at Ole Miss. He's got a chance to win one right now. I mean, hey, you know, he's still getting paid his bonuses. You know, LSU, I think it was reported today that they'll pay him, you know, his full postseason bonus, depending on how far Ole Miss goes. So, how crazy is that, you know? Jimmy Jackson wins again in contract negotiations. John Talti of CBS Sports, I'll give him credit for this, had a very in-depth article about what happened the last two weeks of Lane Kiffin's tenure at Ole Miss. And among the many things in a fascinating article, that basically was the reason he said he left privately was he thought he could win a national championship at LSU and couldn't do one at Ole Miss, which is interesting. Now, what does Ole Miss do? They don't name Pete Golding the interim coach. He's the head coach. Well, again, that was interesting. I'd heard two weeks ago that's kind of where that was going. We'll see where it goes. Harold alluded to this a little bit earlier. Many people thought Jon Sumrall was going to be the next coach at Auburn, replacing Hugh Freeze. Well, he's the next coach at Florida. We'll get into that in a second. Alex Gullish, in a little bit of a surprise, a lot of people thought he was going to Arkansas on Tuesday and Wednesday. He said, no, I'm going to wait and make a decision on Sunday. And the reason why is he had been offered the job, I think, at 2 o'clock in the morning Sunday from John Coyne, the athletic director at Auburn. But he resurrected the South Florida job, gets a lot of kudos for that, offensive-minded, USF number two ranked nationally in total offense. Adam, your thoughts on the new head football coach being introduced right now as we speak at Auburn? Yeah, I think that, you know, as far as the guys that were available beyond Lane Kiffin, I mean, I think that that was a pretty solid hire. I mean, you know, he's a great offensive mind. He's, you know, a modern offensive mind. I think that we saw that Hugh Freeze maybe, you know, has lost his fastball a little bit there since, you know, his offense couldn't figure out to pass the ball to Cam Coleman. So, I mean, you know, hopefully Alex Gullish at least, you know, recognizes the talent that he has at receiver out there for at least one more year if he can get up this day. So, you know, we'll see how that goes. But, I mean, you know, some of his coaches, you know, Arkansas fans had a little protest for the Ryan Silverfield hiring. Some Florida fans are saying that John Summerall's profile is too similar to Billy Napier's. So, you know, once it was beyond Lane Kiffin, all the other good coaches had re-upped with their current programs. And a guy like Eli Drinkwitz at Missouri, who Florida fans would have probably, you know, staged a protest if Florida had hired him. Well, you know, even he signed on, you know, Indiana locked down Signetti. There was nobody really big name out there. So, I think that Auburn actually landed the best of the non-Kiffin bunch with Gullish. And I'm excited to see how he plays out on the planes there. Needless to say, the world is a changing in Alabama and Auburn country. Gone to the good old days when people snag somebody from the family tree. Say goodbye to those days. It's now strictly business. Speaking of Auburn and Alabama, did you catch that ball game over the weekend, Saturday night, on the planes, Adam? Well, funny enough, I only caught the second half because we had an ice storm up here that knocked my power out. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. So, yeah, I caught the second half of the game. And, you know, I was like, wait, what happened? Because when my power went out, it was 17 to nothing. And then I had to really catch up there to see what happened. But, yeah, I mean, just, you know, another game for the Tide where, you know, they had a lot on the line. And this team last year would have rolled over and lost. So, credit to Kalen DeBoer for that not being the case this year. They, you know, they managed to pick up another big win. And in the process, now they're going to play for a title. You know, they're going to play for an SEC title. And, you know, some fans have been saying, you know, maybe it's better to be idle this weekend. Like, no, I'm not with you on that. If you, I thought Kirby had a great quote about that where he said, you know, if you play scared of injuries, then you're just going to play scared. So, you know, I think that that's a great point. And I can't wait to see Alabama and Georgia because, you know, that's a historic SEC matchup. And every time that those two teams get together, the fireworks will do. Yeah, it's still special, Adam. I know a lot of people want to get rid of the championship games, and particularly once they expand to 16 teams. It's like Nick Saban said year after year, it's special to win an SEC title. Alabama going for number 31 with Alabama-Georgia 2.0. Adam, we've had so much stuff going on. We nearly left one amount late last night. Kentucky decides to finally put Cat fans out of their misery after Kentucky dropped a 41-0 egg to Louisville over the weekend. Stoops agreed. Instead of 60 days, he agreed to installment payments over. And, quite frankly, if Barnhart would have done this midseason, he may have gotten John Summerall. We'll see where this goes. But Kentucky finally fires Mark Stoops late last night. Yeah, I think that you said it right there where you said, you know, if they made this decision two months ago, maybe John Summerall is the new coach. I mean, it's just such terrible timing for the Wildcats to fire Stoops and then, you know, hours after the heir apparent for multiple years, it gets snapped up by Florida. So, you know, what a terrible timing there. And now it's interesting. Like, who do you hire? Like, Penn State fans are freaking out right now because their guy, Bob Chesney, you know, he's just got reportedly connected to the UCLA job. So, you know, who's Penn State going to hire now? And now, you know, Kentucky is second in the pecking order at least to Penn State. So, you know, but that's the SEC for you guys. There's never a dull day. And you guys certainly have plenty to talk about on your show for the rest of the week. Absolutely. Adam, before you jump off, SEC championship game Saturday. We know the big poll comes out Sunday. If Alabama wins, we know where would they land if they win? Would they possibly move in? Because let's face it, either Alabama or Georgia is going to lose, either Ohio State or Indiana is going to lose with an Alabama win because they move into that coveted first round by in the playoffs, getting one of those top four spots. And if they lose, what happens there, particularly if BYU loses to Texas Tech? Yeah, I think the big thing there is, yeah, if they win, they should absolutely be a top four seed, probably the fourth seed. You know, throw that to them. Because if Texas Tech wins, they should probably stay ahead of Alabama. You know, we'll see. But then Georgia would probably drop to like the five seed or something like that. You know, I don't think that Georgia would be in any danger of having to hit the road on the first round of the playoff, but they could end up having to play in the first round of the playoff. And I think that the downside for Alabama is I think the floor is the 10 seed. You know, I don't think that they're going to punish Alabama for losing to Georgia if that ends up being the case. You know, they sort of set that precedent last year with SMU. So, I think that, you know, barring some sort of untold chaos, you know, which you can never rule out, but I think that Alabama is safely in the field, win or lose. And, yeah, they're playing for a first round bye. Adam, your final installation of the power rankings out, Texas Six, who had a very impressive win over A&M. Vanderbilt may have had the most impressive win of the weekend. They just steamrolled Tennessee in the second half, winning 45-24. Oklahoma holds off LSU, Alabama 3, Texas A&M 2, Georgia 1. Great job of the rankings throughout the season. Man, I'm out of breath just trying to keep up with all this stuff. Adam, great stuff. In fact, he was a pioneer in a thing called Sports Talk in the entire southeast. Been there at places like Florida State and Ole Miss. Max Howell, welcome in. Just another sleepy day in the Magnolia State. Would you agree? How are you? Yeah, it's about 48 degrees over here. The clouds are hanging low and we expect it snow this afternoon. Wow. Is it snowing in Baton Rouge? Or is there a h*** fest in Oxford for Lane Kiffin? It's Baton Rouge just snowing $100 bills. Max, what's the mood of your neighbors over there today? I would imagine state fans are having some fun with Ole Miss fans. And I imagine Ole Miss fans were at the airport. They were telling Lane, if I saw the video right, he was number one with certain fingers when he got on the plane over there to head down to Baton Rouge. I saw that. Yeah, it's funny how that romance can change, Andy. So, Tennessee fans, Alabama fans, Oakland Raiders fans, FIU fans, or Florida Atlantic, the list goes on and on. When you marry Lane, buckle up, right? Well, it is, but you know what? I mean, somebody still thinks a lot of it. That's right. $34 million. Woo, man. So, I mean, you know, I know he had to take a hard look. Plus, you know, he gets to bring his own staff or keep what they want out of that group there. He gets, you know, he gets all credit. Oh, by the way, only answers to the president of the university bypasses the athletic director. And the governor. Well, the governor's just about out of the picture. I think they may change governors. That's what I've heard lately. But, I mean, it's just a, oh, I've just, I just was watching another podcast a moment ago. They started doing some backs today, whoever they are, started doing back-through checks to actually, when the deal was done. They found his son had enrolled at the high school down there, oh, don't go to the 17th. Wow. Shh. Man, talk to us about that. Obviously, it's a business decision. And if somebody's going to weigh that kind of money under your nose, I think most people give it a strong consideration. Put that aside. It's not necessarily the decision. Coaches move. Players move. It's a business. We get it. Certainly, if we ever thought otherwise, this certainly illustrates it. But your thoughts of how you handle all this stuff. Come to the SIP. It's where everybody wants to be. These are 18- and 22-year-olds. It's almost like Dennis Franchione basically saying, I'm getting up in the middle of the night and getting out of here because the pasture's greener over there. From that standpoint, where are you with the story? Well, you know, of course, I was in the business and around it there, you know, for a long time, 40 years. And I understood what goes over. And because there are so many different opinions, I think, you know, the way you handle that has to satisfy yourself. And I understand all about the ego and all that. But you know what? Lee Kiffin, everybody should know because of his track record. He's a different cat. That's right. He has to satisfy himself and his family. And that's the only people now he has to be responsible for. So, you know, regardless of how it's viewed, everybody's, you know, it's like elbows. Everybody's got one or two opinions about that. So, you know, I really don't fault him for it. I just read, I just got a note just a moment ago also that when he got down there, he told them that he knew that Ole Miss was going to make the playoffs and he probably will have a game or two. They agreed to pay his bonus, LSU agreed to pay the bonus for him and him being in Baton Rouge as opposed to coaching the team. I mean, he better get all he can get right now. That's all I'll say. Well, the other side of the coin on that is that the school will let you go, ask you, freeze, march, stoops. I mean, this pendulum swings both ways. Absolutely it does. Like I say, everybody has to make their own opinion about that. I mean, it's a business. You hit it right on the head. It's a major business, major corporate business now. And if you don't look into some of the corporation, rather, could to see how they hit the personnel. Right, right. I'll give you one. I had one job that I was out raising money for the university on a Friday, and I got back. They didn't even leave me a note. They just cleaned my office out, stood out in the hall, and locked the door. Love you, Max. It's nothing personal. It's just business. I'm just telling you. And, by the way, later in my career, I went back and worked at that school. How about that? Remarried him. Yep. Max, let me ask you about the Auburn situation. I think most Auburn fans and media thought up until about Thursday. It was just a matter of time before John Summerall came to Auburn. He was the leader in the clubhouse for a long time, and then that changed. It looked like he was going to Florida, which eventually happened, and it seemed like D.J. Durkin, if he beat Alabama Saturday night in the Iron Bowl, might get the job. And then, John Cohen, the AD, offers Alex Golich at South Florida the job about 2 o'clock in the morning, Sunday morning. He's an offensive savant, offensive guru. Not as many accomplishments. He has turned South Florida around. There's certainly potential there. He's holding his press conference literally as we speak. Max, your thoughts on you, Auburn football coach. Well, you know, the reason that they didn't get Silverall, because they had some stipulations on who they had to keep. Search of the defensive coordinator. And I'm not sure that Silverall wouldn't have taken that, would not have done that, but I think his practice is that he's the head football coach, and he gets a chance to make those decisions without being told. Right. He literally pulled out of the Auburn deal, I was told, right before they decided to go out. Maybe he decided to go to Florida. But anyway, I don't know a lot about the guy that took a job at Auburn. I mean, really, I knew he'd been at South Florida. But the first two years he was there, I didn't go back and look at his record. He didn't do very well at first. He's only had some success the last couple of years. And I would have to think he would almost have to keep the defensive coordinator's situation intact. But you know what? It doesn't matter. Go back and check the track record of Auburn and hired coaches in the last 10 years. I mean, they had had a great track record. It's because nobody seems to know who makes those final decisions. Yeah. I mean, if y'all know, y'all could, you know, not win an Emmy Award if y'all put that on the air. But the fact is that nobody knows, you know. I mean, if it's Jimmy Reed, I mean, he should be involved in it. But you rarely ever hear his name mentioned. Right. I've talked about that before. When Bobby Loudon was down there, everybody knew who made the decision. Oh, yeah. It was him, period. So, I don't know. I think that, too, is kind of a question. What will he do? I mean, we got, you know, we got a new coach now coming to Arkansas. Who knows? I mean, you know, he had Memphis State playing very well. But that's a big step up. I heard you in the podcast this morning talking about, and I was fortunate enough to have experience at Troy, won a national championship, and then also, due to my career, later moved to Florida State, we were number one in the country. And if you don't think that's not a tremendous amount of difference, that's why when they hired Napier at Florida, in my mind, I'm saying that's never going to work. Oops. Yeah. Because it's a – I can't even explain it, guys. It's so much difference in the intensity and the amount of responsibility that you have. I mean, more people to answer to and for that 99% of those guys cannot make that transition. Yeah, and the other thing – That's where they are. They just keep doing it. The other thing, too, Memphis is a basketball school, which means the pressure is not going to be as great there in football as Arkansas. Not to say there's not pressure, but relative to. Max, what's going to happen at a place you used to call home, Atlanta, Saturday afternoon when Alabama and Georgia get together again? I bet you Kirby's working on that game plan starting this last week. I mean, the only thing we've noticed is Alabama, I think what's happening is Ty Simpson is kind of – the defense is a kind of catching up with him. Yeah. To me, as I watch it, I think if you notice he's holding the ball a little longer now, he's trying to read the defense. And I think what they're doing, they're giving him false keys. They're seeing something when he snaps the ball on the line. Right. And that's not unusual. I mean, I can say I go back when we were in Florida State. Of course, we had some pretty good players down there, but we'd line up in Nicky Andrews and have the defense lined up in his own defense in the secondary. In order to snap the ball, we'd go to man to man. But we had talented athletes that could do that. And you bet Kirby Smart's already picked up on that. And I think they're going to bring the house. I think they're going to rush seven or eight every chance they get to try to get Simpson off-key just to start with. This is – I know it's a big game for Alabama, and I truly believe this. I was in a conversation earlier today. But I believe if Alabama loses that game, they won't get to the playoff. I don't think they're going to take a three-loss team, period. I think that's – regardless of where it is, if it's an extra game here that everybody doesn't play, but on the record, they'll have three losses. And I just think the first year of this 12-year playoff, I don't think they'll take a three-loss team to the playoffs, even if it is in a championship game for a conference. Max, I think that's the concern for Alabama media and the fans. I know a lot of people say, well, they're the number one seed, their strength of schedule. This selection committee is going to do what it wants you to do, and all they look at is losses and the number of wins. And Sankey's going to have to do something about that, Max, in the offseason to try to get this thing on track. Max, just quickly, Kentucky late last night, they have an opening, too. That's right. Maybe they need somebody that's not going to be quite so good because last I remember, that was a basketball school as well. Thank you. Of course. Of course, there are basketball guys over in Arkansas. Maybe that's what's rumored with Arkansas, the basketball school. I don't know. I mean, you know, it was rumored early that they were going to make a change up there or he was going to retire one or the other. But I guess they waited. Everybody else, you know, got the cream of the crop, and then they'll go out searching for a coach. I don't know how they're going to do that. But if you look into it, though, Kentucky actually financially is better off than a lot of schools who understand or believe. I mean, I did a little bit looking over that, too. I didn't realize that Sticks is making maybe $5 million a year. No more wins than he's gathered over the years in comparison to others in the SEC. I was a little surprised at that, to tell you the truth. But he's tapped into that Kroger money. It's where he's coming from. So, I guess, you know, as long as they're selling green beans and steaks at the Kroger's, they're going to have money to spend on the school up there. But the fact is, I don't have a clue. They'll find somebody probably at that next level down, or maybe a coordinator, you know, that's operated the SEC before, that, you know, make it worth its while to change. You know, it's a heck of a term, though. These dates was high school Saturday day coming up on Wednesday, and then on January 2nd, the portal is open. They don't have but one portal now. That puts a lot of pressure on coaches, you coaches, you know, and or teams that make it to the playoff. I mean, you've got dual jobs. I heard a statement made by Nick Saban earlier. You guys probably kept up, too. That all that needs to be during the spring, though. Yeah. So, it takes all the pressure. Let the kids get full access of their coach through the season. Do all that. Really, what they need to do is model it after the NFL. If we hit it that way, anyway. So, you know, what's another page out of their book? Thanks. They really need to take a long look at the calendar. I agree entirely with everything going on. Glad you had a good trip to South Carolina. Welcome back in the coaching carousel. My goodness, when have we ever seen a weekend like that? Going to be taking it around in time. Maybe while we wait on John Frawler getting the latest from Florida, Jon Sumrall news. Back to a couple of things that Max said there about Alabama. If they lose Saturday against Georgia, bowing out. A lot of things are more involved than just that. Or do you agree or disagree that it's not that cut and dry? Because number one, if Texas Tech beats BYU, the consensus is that is a safety blanket for Alabama. But even if BYU wins and Alabama loses, I want to hear the explanation from the committee. Yes, there are three losses. We get that. We go back to last year. SMU got in because they lost in the championship game. And you say, well, the difference is three losses. This is a team that beat the team that beat them earlier. And in effect, Alabama is playing Georgia again in the top five. They beat them the last time, what, they were four or five. This time they're third, at least, coming in. And they're basically home games for Georgia. Last time was a true home game at Athens. And they call it the Georgia Dome. They don't call it the Alabama Dome. This is a pseudo home game that Alabama will have to face this team basically twice on their home turf. Harold, I've been to four Alabama-Georgia games in the Mercedes Dome. For anybody to say that is a neutral environment is lying through their teeth, Georgia has a 70-30 fan advantage. And it's probably 75-25. Now, most of our listeners are pretty logical, reasonable people. And, again, Greg Sankey talked about this at the meeting in Sandation and handed down a six-page diatribe that went into the strength of schedule for the SEC and how much that mattered. And a lot of people thought that was going to be the number one metric that this committee was going to use in deciding that. And it's not. Basically, what they're looking at is instead of good wins or quality wins, they're looking at bad losses and the number of wins. And, again, I know Alabama's now got 10, but I'm kind of under the same impression as Max is now. You brought up a good point. BYU and Texas Tech is going to be a key game. But, again, if Alabama has three losses, it would not surprise me whatsoever if that keeps Alabama out according to the opinion of this committee. And another factor there, and let's not kid ourselves. We're all adults here. Anyone who's been in the business world knows how this game is played. Politics is a big factor. You know the knuckleheads down in Austin, Texas is going to be clamoring to the top of their lungs with open checkbook, just wink, wink, nod, nod. I'm not saying they are. But if there's a window and you've got somebody who's greedy, needy, they're going to give Texas a hard look ahead of Alabama because that's fresh blood, it's fresh money. And let's face it, the city of Atlanta did not like Georgia getting in this game, I don't think, because here's why. The game day, you won't know that much difference. But they want those Texas A&M fans to come in and stay three and four days and spend money. Talking about the hotels, the restaurants, et cetera. That's another topic over there. But as far as the politics involved here, it's going to be interesting in that scenario. I've seen basically, in effect, I've seen this issue split down the middle. Half say Alabama, even with a loss, would get in because, again, one of those losses would be, well, both those losses are going to be to rank teams. But the other one would be that they would have lost to the team that they beat earlier on their true home turf. Speaking of home, speaking of home, BB, Jon Sumrall used to call North Alabama home, former Tiger out of Grissom High. Auburn wanted Jon Sumrall. He is at Florida. Florida wanted Lane Kiffin. He's at LSU. John Frawler is always home there in St. Augustine on the radio at CBS Sports 1420 WAOC and 1240 WFOY. Online, it's 965sports.com. John, welcome in. Have you seen our neighbor from North Alabama lately, Jon Sumrall? How are you? Very quiet, and unlike Baton Rouge these days, BB. We'll get John on there in a moment. But your thoughts about this, at the end of the day, your thoughts about the Florida hire with Sumrall? Well, so many people thought that Kiffin was going to Florida. That's the one that Florida wanted more than anything else, and he and Scott Strickland, the athletic director of Florida, in their initial negotiations, they were not on the same page. For example, as far as a general manager, Scott Strickland wanted a general manager with an NFL background who wouldn't report directly to Kiffin, and Kiffin wanted one, and, Harold, from the start, it just, the basic framework, the relationship just didn't work. Well, I think what Sumrall said was, here's the understanding we have. We weren't a fly on the wall, but the situation, the consensus was, and everyone we've talked with, Auburn wanted Sumrall bad. He's an Alabama native. Apparently, his family are Auburn fans, but Sumrall is a sharp cookie. He went to a great high school over there, so he's a pretty sharp knife in the drawer, and he saw, basically, when he read, if you will, the syllabus that said, here's what we want from you, and I think, from my understanding is, they wanted to basically control some of the hiring decisions on his staff, and I think he said, if I'm going to be the head coach, I'm going to be the head coach. I'm not going to sit here and be looking over my shoulders, because, guys, isn't that exactly why you're in this situation now? You've been hiring people who would take the easy way out. You flash big money in their eyes. You tell them that they're going to be coming to an SEC school, and a lot of these guys, they agreed to that, and then when they got into the room, all of a sudden, they found out they weren't driving the bus, but they were held accountable to where the bus went, and I think he said, no, I need total control. A smart person is going to obviously look at the money, but money aside, you've got to look at the whole package. What have I got to do to earn this money? Am I comfortable with it? Does this shoe fit my foot? If not, then I can go somewhere else, get comfortable money, and be more comfortable, and that just seems to be what Summerall thought at the end of the day. I think in this case, his heart, from what we understand, he had a strong affinity for Auburn, but I think in this case, he let his head roll. Maybe John Frawler, he's closer to the episode than we are, and maybe John knows the answer to that question better than us. Again, John, there at CBS Sports Radio 1420 down in St. Augustine, WAOC, 1240 WFL, down there online at 965sports.com. John, welcome in. How are you? Harold doing well. Brett, I hope everybody's good. I think that the Florida opportunity was one that I don't think John Summerall expected. The way the chain of events happened, guys, it was a whirlwind the past 24 hours, and I think it was one he couldn't turn down, to be honest. Nothing against Auburn, and I know he's from North Alabama, and you guys are more familiar with him, actually, than we are over here until later this afternoon, but the stuff we're hearing sounds good, the fiery attitude, but I think that had a big factor in it, that this was just thrown at him so quickly that he had to make one of those quick decisions, and I think the Florida opportunity, in his mind anyway, was a little better than the Auburn opportunity, whether you like it or not, obviously, because he elected to go that direction, and the press conference will be, in about an hour and a half, it'll be interesting how he presents himself with everything that's happened over here, which has nothing to do with Coach Summerall, but it's just been a whirlwind with the Lane Kiffin sweepstakes, and then John Summerall coming into the picture, quite honestly, last Friday. Before that, I think Florida was still laser-focused on getting Lane Kiffin, and I know the fan base, that's where their attention was, and then this did a 180 on Friday morning. John told me he had a great article on CBS Sports about what happened in the two weeks with Lane Kiffin leading up to this, and Scott Strickland, and I know Florida fans have issues with him too, the athletic director with Florida. He and Kiffin, in the initial conversation, were not on the same page. They disagreed with what the role that a general manager would have on the team, and it just never seemed to come together. John, why is Lane Kiffin not the head coach at Florida today? Well, I think you just touched on a good piece of it, Brett. I think that, honestly, from what we've been hearing, I don't think Scott Strickland ever really wanted to have Lane Kiffin be the head coach. I think the boosters forced him in that direction. And whether it's for better or for worse, Lane Kiffin's at LSU and not in Gainesville, which a lot of folks are upset about right now. And honestly, I understand that because nothing against Coach Sumrall, but in my mind, guys, this is a gamble. It's another group of five coach. Florida has not had success hiring a group of five coaches. Again, that doesn't mean Coach Sumrall won't be a smashing success. But I understand where the folks are coming from. And as far as Scott Strickland, honestly, I think he should have been fired a couple of years ago, just my opinion, not just for this, but because you look at his hires at Florida. First of all, getting to hire a third football coach as an athletic director at the University of Florida, boy, somebody upstairs is blessing him. And I know they have given him an extension, too. But to me, that's almost unthinkable that an athletic director could survive that. So, he did get Todd Golden a national title, which I think has had a lot to do with why he's still there on the basketball side. But I just think that's the main reason Lane Kiffin's not there, that Coach Kiffin wanted probably full control. Now, the stories out there are Jon Sumrall wanted that, too. I don't know what's true and what's not true, but I just honestly think Scott Strickland did not want Lane Kiffin from the get-go. That's just my opinion, and I think that he's probably very happy it's Jon Sumrall this afternoon instead of Lane Kiffin at the press conference. Well, there's a reason, according to the insiders, that Greg Byrne didn't go all out for Kiffin when he had an opportunity following Nick Saban. They know that, yes, he has a plus side, but he also has baggage, and are you willing to deal with that? That depends on your circumstances. Your thoughts, John, about, it's mentioned, this is Monday, National Signing Day is Wednesday. These kids now have an opportunity to leave. Where is, how is this going to impact Florida? I'm sure LSU will get a bump with Lane even here in the 11th hour like Nick did back in the day with Alabama. But where is this, how is this going to affect Florida going forward? Well, that was my concern when this went down over the weekend, guys, because remarkably to this point, Florida hadn't lost a lot of commitments yet. And I think a big part of that was the anticipation it was going to be Lane Kiffin coming to Florida. Right. Since this really has been a two-month whirlwind from the time Coach Napier was fired on October 18th. But that being said, I think Coach Sumrall is going to have to hit the ground running with those commitments and guys like Jaden Baugh, who had a career day on Saturday against FSU and had over 1,000 yards rushing, the guys that are on this current roster. Because I think this product can be a winner starting next year with what we've got here with the right coach and the right acquisitions, meaning being able to retain the key players and then the commitments, most of them, because you're not going to retain them all. You know how this works, guys. When you have a coaching change, some kids are just going to move to another situation. That's the way it is. But how many of these can Coach Sumrall retain and how much can he pick up in the short time he's got, you know, since he's just got the job as of yesterday? So that's going to be a big key. And I think the press conference today, you know, they say winning the press conference is important. I think this is going to be a big one for him, to be quite honest with you, in an hour and a half. John, in just a couple of minutes, I've heard a couple of names that might be coming with him. Offensive coordinator Cade Bale at Pittsburgh. Well, that's Curran Bale's son, former quarterback Buster Faulkner at Georgia Tech. He may bring a Joe Craddick, who's the Tulane offensive coordinator. It's very early this is all coming together. What are some names you've heard for the staff? Well, Cade Bale, I've heard, which I would love if he got him. He's 33 years old. Most of us over here know Kerwin Bale was his dad, a former Florida quarterback. That's not the reason I want him, though. The reason I would like to see him added. I like what I saw from Pittsburgh the few times I saw him this year on offense. And I think if Coach Napier had gotten somebody like that, he'd probably still be the coach here. But that's neither here nor there. Clint Trickett's been a name I've heard. And to me, that's the biggest hire, guys. Getting back to what has Coach Summerall got to do to retain talent and maybe win over the fan base, which you didn't have. But the offensive coordinator. Because that was the biggest sticking point for the last four years with Coach Napier was he was insistent on he's calling the plays. Obviously, Coach Summerall's a defensive guy. He's not going to call the plays. We know that. But that's going to be the biggest, biggest hire is getting somebody in here. And I do like, I read, too, that he wants an explosive offense. That's mandatory. For the University of Florida, I agree. That's mandatory. That's not a negotiable fact. That's got to happen. So that's going to be his biggest hire to me because he's going to, I know he'll have a defensive coordinator, but it's going to be his defense. We know that. The offensive coordinator is going to be, staff-wise, the biggest hire he makes. Yeah, after Steve Spurrier or Urban Meyer, it better be an explosive offense. Listen, we appreciate you coming on for a few minutes. It's going to be a wild, been a wild 24, 48 hours. John, we'll pick up again with this very soon with you. US Congressman Mike Rogers says that he will be launching a bipartisan investigation into the U.S. military operations that have been conducted against narco-terrorist boats in the Caribbean Sea. The move from Rogers comes after a recent Washington Post article claimed that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had issued a kill-everybody order to the military performing these strikes, which resulted in the narco-terrorist boat receiving a second strike. Hegseth says this is fake news designed to be derogatory and inflammatory towards the U.S. military. Rogers has expressed support for taking out these drug-smuggling boats, but not necessarily ordering second strikes in order to kill any who survived the first. Rogers is the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and he has issued a joint statement with ranking committee member Adam Smith that there will be a full accounting of the operation that took place in the Caribbean this past September. And with that, on this busy, busy, did I mention busy Monday, we go to the man who's probably busy looking at some big state dates this week. Ben Thomas, got it all covered there at AL.com. BT, welcome in. How was your Thanksgiving? Oh, it was great. It was great. And then busy weekend, obviously, with all this news. But I hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving as well. Thank you, Ben. We did. Listen, man, we've been doing this thing a long time. Have you ever, before we get into the obvious year, setting the stage for some big dates in the state this week, have you ever seen a weekend like this in the college rinks? I don't think so. You know, I think we're in a bad place, largely because of the calendar. You know, I mean, that's what's worth in all this stuff. I mean, obviously, Lane Kiffin is Lane Kiffin. And, you know, take from that what you may. But the fact that we have an early signing day, you know, in two days, and the transfer portal, I mean, it used to be that you could wait until January if you were going to hire a football coach. Now you can't do that. That's why you're seeing all these, you know, coaches being hired. And it's just crazy to me that, you know, a coach would leave a team that's in the playoff, what, three wins from a national championship before that happens. And I agree with Ole Miss. You can't let him. I mean, he can't be your coach if he's going to your rival. Yeah. Your rival. I mean, I'm not saying he would do anything nefarious or anything like that, but it's just not a good look. Yeah. So I don't think that ever was a possibility. But we'll see. It's an interesting decision by Lane. And then everything else, you know, just kind of fell into place, I guess. It seemed like everybody's waiting on that domino to fall, and then everything else happened. So it's an interesting hire for sure. But even though I was busy last week and I'm going to be busy this week, I was kind of glad that I wasn't on the college beat yesterday. It's kind of like being married and your wife comes home and says, honey, I kind of love you, but I met Joe, and I want to go to the Smokies for the Christmas holidays. But when I come back, I want to spend Christmas with you and the kids. And I want to see how many people go, no problem. Go, sissy, go. But your thoughts I mentioned. Yeah, or I'd like to stay with you until Christmas for the kids. Yeah. I'm probably going to leave you. Yeah, well, I want your presents because, you know, I may need them down the road. For sure. Let me ask you, we've got National Sign Day coming up on Wednesday, and let's bring it kind of back close to home. How, if any shape, form, or fashion will this impact Auburn? I think there's a chance. I mean, maybe positively. I watched the teleconference. I didn't know much, to be honest with you. I don't, you know, I knew who Alex Gilesh was, but to me that kind of came out of the blue. I didn't know, you know, much about him other than, you know, obviously he had some upsets early in the year, but I was impressed with what I heard from him in the press conference, and we'll see if they can hang on. I mean, I think they've got a chance, and they had some guys up there this weekend that I think they got a chance to flip. One of them being Deshaun Spencer, the Sierra Land wide receiver, kind of the latest incarnation of Ryan Williams. Very good receiver who, you know, kind of wasn't on the radar. He was down to Duke in Maryland this summer and committed to Duke. I think Auburn's got a chance to maybe flip him, and if they can keep this class and add some other guys, I think they'll get some of these, you know, the already South Florida's had a couple of decommitments since Gilesh announced he was leaving, so we'll see if any of those guys can come through. But he'll have to, man, can you imagine, I mean, that guy and all these coaches that are just getting hired, I mean, you know they're not sleeping. They sleep an hour a night for the next couple of nights anyway, so I think it'll be a positive thing. Auburn could lose, obviously, a couple of their high-star guys, but I think in the long term it'll be good. B.T., I looked at the schedule earlier today. Mars Hill's closest win was the season opener against Madison Academy, 4A, 51-27 by 24, and 5A Scottsboro, 41-14. They beat a good Piedmont team, 46-13, and ran for over 400 yards again. Jackson Penn and Hudson Higgins carrying the load. They're going to be facing Thursday, 11 a.m. Bayside Academy. This is the team that I thought could win a second consecutive state championship. B.T., your thoughts on Mars Hill, and what do you know about Bayside Academy? Well, Brett, you probably got a chalkboard with those scores above your TV set at home, I would guess. Yeah, first of all, I got a message from Coach Higgins actually late last night. He's up doing some work, too, about his two running backs. I mean, both of them have school records. Hudson Higgins rushed for 1,986 yards. That's a school record and 28 touchdowns. Jackson Penn, 1,782 yards and 35 touchdowns. That's incredible. And like you said, they hadn't really been tested. This Bayside team is a good team. They won, what is it, 13 in a row now, I guess. Their only loss came to St. Michael in the first game of the year, and they've been on a roll. They haven't had a lot of close games either. They beat T.R. Miller 23-14 at T.R. Miller in a game they really controlled, but T.R. kind of stayed in it late. But in the playoffs, you know, not much competition, 46-7, 47-7, 30-13. And then last week, you know, they got that high-power Southside Selma offense with the eighth-grade quarterback, Cole Moody, who's been throwing it all over the place. And they beat them 51-20, and I think two of those touchdowns came late in the game. So it's a good team. Barrett Trotter, by the way, if you don't know, he's the head coach, the former Auburn quarterback. Briarwood Christian Starr has done a great job. This is his third year they are taking over for Phil Lazenby, and he's really done a good job. It's going to be an interesting matchup, because Bayside's very good defensively. They've got two really good linebackers. Monroe Parton is one of them. He's right now committed to Wake Forest. He also plays some on the offensive side, and Billy Neal is the other one. So, you know, can they slow down that Mars Hill offense? And Bayside's been, you know, scored a good bit, too. They scored, you know, 565 points. So I just don't know if anybody can slow down this Mars Hill offense. You know, Piedmont was undefeated, and they've got some good guys. That's right. And it wasn't much of a game last week. So I'm afraid. And if I look at the, you know, I was telling somebody earlier today, if you look at the matchups we have, there really are no Cinderella teams in this Super 7. And I'm talking about the boys' finals especially. They're all, everybody was ranked. I think Opelika is the lowest-ranked team. They were ranked number 10 in the last 7-8 ball. Everybody else, I think, is five or above in a couple of one-versus-two matchups that I'm excited about. So, you know, a couple of these games will probably get away and be a little lock-sided. That always happens. But on the paper, I think we have a chance to have maybe as competitive a Super 7 overall as we've had in a while. Ben Thomas, AL.com. I would imagine a lot of Alabama fans are going to watch that 11 o'clock showdown Friday morning when Jackson plays Aniston. And Mr. Crowell taking on unbeaten Aniston at 14-0. What happens there, Ben? Well, it's hard to go against Jackson. I mean, speaking of Jackson, Rico Jackson is the coach at Aniston. He's done a great job. What an exciting game they had coming back to beat Plainview in the final seconds the other night. They're very athletic. But Jackson's just, you know, they've got so many guys. It's not just Crowell. You know, you've got to load up to stop him because, you know, one guy is never going to bring him down. And then you load up to stop him and the quarterback, Landon Duckworth, who's a South Carolina commit, just runs around the other end for a touchdown. I saw them the other night against St. Michael. They really weren't flawless. They fumbled three times and still won by 21 points. They've got some studs. All these studs that won it for them last year are back. The big receiver, Keon Chapman, was out most of the year. But he's now back. So I think it's just going to be hard to stop Jackson if they're on their game. Now, unfortunately, I think the weather forecast is calling for some rain, a good deal around Thursday and a lot of rain on Friday, maybe. Hopefully that'll change the deeper into the week we get. But that could affect the game. BT, I said several times during the course of the season, I thought most of Shoals was the best team in North Alabama. And they advanced to the semifinals with a rematch game with Klay Chalkwell. They beat Klay Chalkwell last year, but they were about to go up 17-7. It looked like a peak six was about to put them ahead by 10, but it didn't happen. And then Aaron Fry, very talented quarterback for Klay Chalkwell, more or less took over. Great season for most of the Shoals, but they fall 32-13. Woods ran for 114 yards. Clements had a good game, but Klay Chalkwell is just a very good team. And that should be quite a 6A matchup with Sarah Lamb. Yeah, I mean, Muscle Shoals did have a great year. I mean, just, you know, their playoff road after Mae Jemison, who wasn't great, but then to beat Parker, the reigning champ, go to Mountain Brook, who was in the final just a couple of years ago, and then have to beat Klay Chalkwell. That's probably as tough a road as anybody faced. And then Klay Chalkwell has been number one in 6A all year. They've been number one in our Power 25, which is out today, I think, since they beat Thompson, probably when they moved to number one. So it's really, that's going to be a really interesting game. They move on to face Sarah Lamb. That's a one versus two matchup Friday night. Sarah Lamb in their fourth straight title game. They've won one and lost two, including two years ago to Klay Chalkwell when KJ Lacey got stopped on the one yard line on the game's final play. So I think you'll really see some talent on both sides in that game. I mentioned Deshaun Spencer for the wide receiver from Sarah Lamb. Also, Jamison Roberts has really been even better than KJ Lacey was. He's added a running dimension that Sarah Lamb hasn't had before. So I always say that 6A title game is almost always the best game of Super 7, and it looks like, the matchup looks like it might be that way again. I think you're exactly right. In fact, everything gets started. I know you've got the flag football game, and then Thompson, Opelika, class 7A on Wednesday night at 7 o'clock. And again, the Morris Hill Bayside Academy game is Thursday morning, starting at 11. I believe Alabama Public TV is going to be broadcasting the Super 7 again. When are you and Thomas Ashworth coming out as far as your preview for the Super 7 in-depth for all the teams? And what else have you got on the agenda for the week? Yeah, we've got a lot going on. We're actually headed up there tomorrow to get ready for everything. We've actually already had two parts of our Super 7 moments, memorable moments from the last 25 years. I had the first part yesterday. The second part is online today, number 16 through 25. And then we'll have the top five tomorrow. We had the Power 25 is out already. Brett, you can check that out. And then Tuesday, we've got a big day. We've got, you know, what recruits you want to watch in the Super 7, previews of the flag football championship, and really a breakdown of the class 7A game where we talk to other coaches about that and a bunch of other stuff that you don't want me to go on and on about. But the picks come out on Wednesday if that's what you're looking for. And of course, we'll have signing day coverage as well. So anyway, just go to AL.com and you can find all that stuff. Ben, you need to call Popeye and get some spinach. I can tell right now. Busy time. Stay safe out there. Safe travels to and from. And thanks so much for your time today. All right. Thanks, guys. Couldn't be more proud of these guys, first of all, for this game and just how resilient they were within the game. Obviously, we jumped on pretty quick early, but they had some explosive plays, and I feel that's the one thing that's disappointing. We gave us some explosives, and we didn't have the explosives, but the takeaways and taking care of the football ourself was huge. But just the fight and the belief, you know, I think there's some teams that hope they can find a way. I think our guys really understand that they get in these spots, they're going to make it happen, and nothing's going to be given to you. You've got to earn it. These guys have done that since day one. They've worked for this situation of football, fourth downs, whatever it might be. I'll have more in a moment. It is a pleasure for us to welcome the man who I would assume had a very interesting weekend. The V-Man, Vince Roller, 99.1, the sports animal in Knoxville, Tennessee on the Ball Radio Network. V-Man, welcome in. Did you survive okay the weekend? How are you? I did. The scale was not friendly. Neither was the second half of Neyland Stadium. And, yeah, a few too many leftovers over the weekend and all that fun stuff. So, yeah, I got some making up to do. At least I could do something about that on the back end. Tennessee can't increase what happened in that second half. Which is rare, a skinny waistline or Tennessee fans who are happy with the coaching right now after that, not only loss, three touchdowns, two yards rival on your home field does not sit well, does it V-Man? No, I mean, there's former players that we talked to and heard from all last week. And, obviously, fans feel that way, too. It's not just the fans. It's the former players. The feeling is you never lose to Vanderbilt. You should never. I don't care what the record is. And I think Kentucky falls in that category. There's no excuse for it. And the history tells you that Tennessee usually does not. So, spike up, you know, best year in history. Doesn't matter to them. That's just unacceptable to them. And then for it to play out that way and have one of the worst halves of football under Josh Heupel. There are a couple brutal ones, but this one was right up there. They, when Tennessee went up 21-14, it was 7-51 left to go in the second quarter. They're outscored 31-3 after that. Wow. And 11 explosive run plays for Vanderbilt. 11. Just Diego Pavia running wild. You know, they did a good job against him last year, but we kind of talked about it last week. He's better. That team is better. And his plays were just back-breaking. And what makes it, what makes it, makes fans more furious, you know, at Heupel and the coaching staff is, they were thoroughly outcoached in that game. I could not see very often where they had a spy on Diego Pavia. And I don't understand how you do that. And so what they would do, they're very undisciplined defensively. So, one, they didn't have a spy oftentimes. And if they did, guys were just doing their own thing. And then when they would blitz, they would blitz, and this team always on the defensive line, linebackers, they're very aggressive in heading vertical up the field. So, their linebackers would choose a gap and then just shoot up just all 100% towards Pavia. And then he'd just step aside. They'd zoom past him. And then the middle of the field was wide open. It happened against Mateer at Oklahoma, and it happened countless times in this game. They just weren't disciplined. You know, in Alabama and Nick Saban and even Kirby Smart, when they played quarterbacks that are dual threats like that, they'll give up a couple of yards. But they will break down and make sure you stay in front of them, and then you don't get past them. And then when you get there, you arrive with violence. You don't have to just run past him every time. So, I didn't understand the game plan. I didn't understand their execution. And then they were clearly demoralized once Vanderbilt took the lead. And then Vanderbilt shortened the game with these long drives in the second half. And then Tennessee put pressure on itself because they knew they had limited opportunities, led to more mistakes, and not being able to execute and just brilliantly done by Vanderbilt to see the weaknesses of Tennessee and pounce on them. Steve, first of all, Vanderbilt is a legitimate top-10 team. They're ranked 12th. They're 10-2, 6-2 in the SEC. Columbia should be invited to New York as a Heisman finalist. And I get the angst. I listened to all this stuff last year when Alabama lost to Bandy. And Tennessee has lost. I know they're frustrated and angry over the season. They thought it was going to be a top-five, top-seven, getting the playoff year. They've lost to four teams in the top-12, three teams in the top-10. I know that doesn't make anybody feel better. They lost their two corners, V, who would have been two of the best in the SEC. They've been riddled with injuries, and particularly defensively. Look, I get it that the three of us have been in the SEC following it for decades. But maybe in a few weeks, they'll step back and look at the big picture and realize they've lost to four top-12 teams. Yeah, I mean, I think some optimistic fans, glass-half-full fans, ones that still believe in Josh Heupel, and by no means the majority of the fan base not believe in him. But I think some optimistic fans will look at it that way. But Tennessee had only lost four games at home in Josh Heupel's first four years. They lost three times at home this year, including a couple of games by one score in that Georgia game where there was countless opportunities to where they could win that game without even coming down to a missed field goal. So there was a lot. And then they played some of their lesser competition, and they barely beat them. Here's some numbers to flip what you said, and you're not wrong, but here's some numbers to flip what you said. Tennessee 4-4 in the SEC. The four teams they beat in the SEC combined league record of 5-27. Wow. Combined total record, 16-32. Wow. I didn't count how many of those have new coaches today or about to have new coaches. And then Syracuse was 3-9 this year. And then their two group of five opponents were both 4-8. And the only team with a winning record that they beat was ETSU out of the FCS. So you have to beat somebody in your schedule. You can't just lose your best teams. And then to do it the way they did it and have so many things they can point to as unacceptable, that's where 8-4, maybe some people thought they'd go 8-4, but this was really an ugly 8-4 in how it went down because you were left wanting more through every game except for the Florida game. And even some people nitpick that, and then you followed it up with that against Vanderbilt where you never want to lose to Vanderbilt. So I think that's why fans won't just take the positive side of it overall. V, let me ask you quickly, any substance to the rumors of Josh Heupel being, quote, a candidate at Penn State? You know, that would surprise me, honestly. I don't have any insight on that. That would really surprise me. The one thing that I would look at, I think there's definitely going to be staff changes and probably on defense. I don't know. I think some of that could be, hey, you know, Tim Banks, we need to do this differently, this differently. We need to change this position. We need to make these changes. They need to recruit better on defense, especially in the secondary. They're not getting elite enough players that are ready to go in the secondary. And even at linebacker, whereas the line they recruited pretty well. But if Auburn does, if Alex Golesh doesn't retain D.J. Durkin, I just kind of wonder, I don't know this, I wonder if he would look to his former staff mate in Tim Banks, if Tim Banks is looking for a fresh start or to beat the posse. I don't know that that's the case. But these kind of relationships is where guys match up. And I think there's going to be some changes somewhere. So I would be more looking at that versus Hypo. Well, I would be surprised if Hypo was to make a move. Yeah, yeah, I would agree. But, again, the rumor mill flows this time of the year. Where can we get online to get all the good stuff? Yeah, at Vince Sports on social media, Twitter slash X and Instagram and Facebook, all that kind of fun stuff. And then the TV work, SportsSource, digital network on YouTube. You can find some more work there. What a way to finish November and kick off December. V-Man, thanks so much. Survive, and let's do it again soon, okay? All right, always a pleasure. Baby, I was out this morning and overheard a conversation amongst Alabama fans, and they are convinced that this team this year is in cahoots with cardiologists. They think that this team is good for their business. Would you agree? Well, I think it's kind of the M.O. of Kellen DeBoer in his national championship season with Washington. Yeah. I believe they had eight or nine one-score games. Well, that's fans. What happens if you're a fan slash former Alabama player? Nobody knows that better than William Redfish. Barger, been there and done that on the offensive line, wearing the crimson now clothes to BAM's radio. William, welcome in. How are you, and how was your weekend? It was good. It wasn't long enough, but, you know, they never are. Let me ask you this, William. You've seen a lot of football, played a lot of football. What went through your mind on fourth and two? Is it safe to say this coach, he knows how to have some brass calls? Yeah. You know, look, I never have any problem, you know, going for the jugular. I wish this 2025 ball club would take on the cojones, so to speak, of their head coach and, you know, learn to put people out of their misery when they've got that opportunity. Right. And, you know, just to play off of what y'all were talking about when we were coming on, the average margin of victory in a head-to-head SEC matchup for 2025 is only 10 points this year. Yeah. Absolutely. William, I know Malcolm Simmons, some Alabama fans thought, well, they forgot to cover him Saturday night, but I will give credit for the secondary. I thought Zabian Brown did a marvelous job trying to cover Kim Coleman. Coleman had five catches for 43 yards. Keon Saab had five tackles, led the team with two pass breakups, and, of course, Bray Hubbard had two of the most important plays in the game. Your thoughts, again, I know Auburn came back, made it a tight game, scared everybody he had to death. Your thoughts on the defensive performance? Well, you know, I agreed with, you know, what Kane Womack was trying to do. You know, some people were frustrated that, you know, we seem to be just giving, you know, Auburn three and four yards a pop on the QB keepers and the QB scramblers. But he was, you know, he was playing some, you know, zone coverage on the back end, trying to eliminate, you know, big plays to those all-in-wide receivers. And, you know, for those that missed out on it, if you have, you know, some time, you know, go back and watch the replay and just focus in on Zabian Brown. He put on a master class in how to play coverage corner and enjoy him next year because it'll be the last time you get to see him play. But, you know, I think when you factor in games like Saturday night and the fact that he's already got two Daniel Moore prints on his trophy case, I mean, he's easily the best corner that's been in Tuscaloosa since Patrick Sertan Jr. William Redfish Barger. William, talk to us about this team. You were gracious enough to come on after the Florida State game. We know where the mood was then. Who would have thought here as we get to pull the curtain on the regular season that Matt Norvell will be where he is and Ken and DeBoer will be where he is and with this Alabama team is where they are. Your thoughts just about the season and now getting ready to wear the road out again to Atlanta to face. I'm sure Kirby says, oh my, here we go again. Well, you know, everything I'm fixing to say is positive, but there's going to be a but at the end of it. All right. You know, I think you just have to, as an Alabama fan, you just have to appreciate, you know, how this season has turned out. You know, they took down all the big rivals in the regular season. And, you know, despite giving Oklahoma that game, you know, they still had an opportunity to win it. And I think that's kind of the, you know, kind of the calling card of this team, you know, both offensively and defensively. Is there going to be in every game, there's going to be an opportunity for them to, you know, either seal the win or come from behind and take victory from the other team. And, you know, they've done a great job of that. You know, I think through two regular seasons now, Nick, Kalen DeBoer's got the same record as Nick Saban through his first two seasons at Alabama. And I don't think anybody would have ever predicted that, you know, but based on some of the attitudes when Kalen DeBoer was hired to replace Nick Saban. But here comes the but. But. You know, I'm not sure if this team hasn't gone as far as their injured roster can take them. You know, you heard what Kirk Herbstreit said about Ty Simpson being hooked up to an electro-stim unit over there on the sideline. And that's been an issue since he got duplexed against Missouri. You know, two of the top running backs aren't going to be available this weekend. The center's playing on one leg. Josh Quavis will be out, you know, and his absence was missed more Saturday evening as a run blocker than it was as a receiver. If he had been playing, you know, that outside zone stretch play that Grubb, you know, got no groove with, you know, a lot of those runs would have turned into big runs if the two freshman tight ends would have not whiffed and just gotten in somebody's way. So, you know, I'm not saying I don't have confidence that, you know, Alabama doesn't have a chance to win this game. Whoever wins it, I think it's going to be a low-scoring, close game. But, you know, that's a tall task, you know, for some offensive production when you've got over half of your starters either, you know, unavailable to play because they're injured or they're fighting through injuries to continue to try and get out on the field. And, you know, that's just, you know, a byproduct of the college football world that we live in these days. There's no more, you know, depth, elite talent depth stacked up like it used to be. And, you know, we'll see if, you know, Kirby, if it's an issue for Kirby Smart, you know, their starting center is going to be, you know, out for the rest of the year. So, they'll be playing a backup there at that position. But, you know, they are more healthy than Alabama going into this matchup. But, you know, maybe the inner demons that Kirby has struggled with for the last 11 years will rear their ugly head once again. Or, you know, maybe one of the best ball-hawking safeties that seems to, you know, have a niche for creating turnovers. And Bray Hubbard can give the offense some short fields at times. Let's talk about old brother Hubbard. I mean, back to what we said earlier, how far has he come since after that Florida State game? Well, I don't necessarily think it's since the Florida State game. You know, I think that was probably the, you know, one of the biggest talking points when DeBoer was hired. And, you know, you saw the, you know, Justice Haynes, Julian Sayan, and Caleb Downs, you know, opt to transfer. And, you know, you know, they didn't think that, you know, a talent like Caleb Downs, you know, that people knew that, you know, they'd never seen Julian Sayan play, so they weren't worried about him. You know, Alabama still had some good quality running backs to replace Justice Haynes. But, you know, the Caleb Downs transfer, I think, is what, you know, had everybody in an uproar. And, you know, I think he's certainly, for the past two seasons, he's been a huge, huge, you know, development back there. And, you know, playing center field in coverage. I mean, he loves getting up there and getting it, sticking his neck, you know, in there on tackling, on the run, in the box. And so he's just a unique player, you know, I think, in today's game, you know, just because of his versatility. You know, he's good in coverage, he's good at, you know, creating turnovers and, you know, having that willingness to get in there and basically be an extra linebacker at times to help him run stops is a unique talent. And, you know, I think, you know, that's a guy that, you know, I'm not saying he's going to be a top-ten draft pick like Caleb Downs is, but that's a guy that will play football on Sundays as long as his body allows him to. William, I've been asked twice this weekend about Ryan Williams. 20 passing routes, Ty Simpson, I believe, targeted him. My answer was, Ryan Williams' problem is Jeremy Bernard, Isaiah Horton, and Lutz Air Brooks. Maybe Ty Simpson has more confidence in them. I know you've been asked this probably the last two or three weeks. What's your assessment of the Ryan Williams situation? You know, look, there's obviously something going on outside of a tweaked hamstring. You know, I can't really go into details on the radio about it, but let's just say that Ryan hasn't really responded well to being asked to play in the slot. You know, at the time, you know, they wanted to give 17 Brooks a chance to grow into that position and not throw him to the fire until he was really ready. And, look, I get it, you know, when you're as small as Ryan Williams is, there's more blocking and more contact that occurs at that spot. And, you know, he is more of a, you know, a glider and prefers being outside the hash marks and, you know, going on go routes. But that's just not what this offense is designed for. And, you know, I think it's going to, you know, be a decision that's going to have to be made collectively is, you know, and I think it should be an easy sell for the coaching staff. You know, look, Jeremy Bernard and Isaiah Orton are going to be gone next year and 17 will be ready to take over that slot role and you'll be back to the outside. So let's just chalk all this nonsense up to a somewhat of a sophomore slump and try and get better and go forward for 2026. Of course, in 2025, we know all these other guys are going to be throwing some bucks at him to sit here and satisfy what he wants. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens there. Before we get off, William, what's going to be the final score Saturday night in Atlanta? You know, I do. I think it's going to be a low scoring ball game, you know, at this stage in the game, you know, neither team is an offensive juggernaut. You know, Georgia's had to pull out quite a few close wins, you know, since the first matchup in September. You know, I think it's going to be, you know, a 21 to 17, a 24-21, you know, type of an outcome. And, you know, like I said, I think Alabama's going to have to have some help if they're going to get that kind of point generation against this Georgia defense. And so, you know, hopefully the guys over there on the other side of the ball can, you know, do what they normally did earlier in the season and get them two takeaways to take advantage of. William, before we let you go, Jim Miller walking off on crutches was not a sign Alabama fans wanted to see. We'll see what his status is going to be. What's plan B or plan C? We know Daniel Hill is going to be there. You saw you had a okay deer sighting against Auburn. Richard Young is there, et cetera. William, what's plan B and C if Jim's not ready to go? Well, you know, with, you know, Kevin Riley, you know, being over there with his jaw wired shut, he's not going to be a part of the plan. That's obvious. So, you know, I would expect to see a steady dose of Daniel Hill and AK deer. You'll probably see a little Richard Young as well. But, you know, they're, you know, they're getting kind of thin in that running back room was a, you know, a deep area. I would be shocked if Jim Miller, you know, is available. And if he is, he's not going to be 100%. So, you know, I would plan on seeing, you know, number four, number zero back there. Yeah, I would imagine, William, that Cuevas, number 80 and number 26, their chances of being ready for December 19th or 20th playoff game would be much better than it would be on Saturday. Always enjoy the insight and the conversation. Have a great week. Let's do this again next Monday. Sounds good, guys. I'll see you all next week. Thank you. Look forward to it. William, Redfish Barger. Before we get away, interesting day, the changing of the guard, literally down the plains. A lot of folks very taken aback, I think, by the news. Alex Gullish, the new Auburn head football coach, born, by the way, June 24th, 1984 in Moscow. Moscow, take your preference on that. Russia, he went to Ohio State. This is going to be an interesting marriage, BB. Yeah, it is, Harold. Well, again, I know they want an improvement in offense, but if you look at it, their last three coaches have, quote, been offensive savant with Hugh Freeze and Gus Maltz on. And now you've got Alex Gullish. We'll see where this goes. Stay tuned. By the way, speaking of staying tuned, coming up on Wednesday, National Signing Day.
