It's time for the Valley's exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Good afternoon and welcome here to the Boomo Bugg Show. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Brett Beaird, welcome in where UNA is on the eve of making history this weekend in the Shoals and what's facts and what's fiction when it comes to the coaches' rumor mill. Good afternoon, welcome in and how are you? Happy Football Friday to you and the listeners. Mike Huggenin and Blake Lovell will preview the top games in the SEC tomorrow. Zach Pounders of the Shoals Report previews high school football quarterfinal action for three Shoals teams. Jimmy is here right now to preview senior day in Tuscaloosa and to tell us how to fix the college football playoff selection committee. And that's not all that Jimmy can do. He is a Swiss Army ninth, they say. Jimmy is busy. There's co-host of Locked On Bama. You guessed it. Part of the Locked On Network. Jimmy, welcome in. Happy Friday to you. How are you? Oh, doing great, guys. Appreciate you all having me back. And we appreciate you hooking up with us. Obviously, a lot to get to. Jimmy, let's talk about part of the bad pond here, the elephant in the room. Back and forth. We live in an era where clicks count money. And I've seen people, I've seen some of the weather guys come out and say, look out for snow on Thanksgiving. And then you got the guru of weather, James Spann and others, saying, please, folks, don't fall in this trap. Don't click and give these guys money. And the same goes for sports. We know what we're talking about here. A lot of these people, they have no ethics. They just throw things out there to profit from our naivety or outright curiosity. But what can you say in addressing folks when it comes to Kalen DeBoer? We're not making this stuff up. We're just sitting here being the messenger, back and forth, some mentions about Penn State. I would love to see the sources for this. If they show me the sources, okay. But, Jimmy, where are you with this right now online chatter? Well, I don't believe Kalen DeBoer will be anywhere else but Alabama in 2026. I mean, I don't believe that. He's got a tremendous job, a tremendous contract. It's one of the best jobs in college football. You know, obviously there's a lot of pressure at Alabama. There's obviously a lot of pressure at Penn State. They fired the last guy who was in the national semifinal a year ago and had his team ranked number one at points during this season and was fired. So, I don't think you'll find any place in college football where there's not a lot of pressure to win. I don't think that Kalen DeBoer is likely to end up at Penn State or is super serious about the Penn State job. But sometimes, you know, when there's rumors like this, there's at least kernels of truth maybe somewhere in there. We've got to remember that college football is very unique in the sense that one guy represents a lot of the big college football names in the sport. And when the Penn State job came open, it shouldn't surprise anyone that one of the first people they called was Jimmy Sexton. And Sexton represents a lot of people, including DeBoer. And there's no telling what names come up in those conversations, you know. So, could his name have been tossed around? Could there have been some inquiry about interest? I don't doubt that. I mean, in the sense that there was certainly conversations between Penn State and Jimmy Sexton and probably about a number of Sexton clients. So, you know, if you're looking for the smoke or the kernel of truth, it's probably somewhere in there. But, in the end, is Kalen DeBoer looking to leave Alabama? I don't believe that's the case. And not only that, I mean, let's face it, we're less than two weeks away from a signing class. And right now, on paper, I mean, I know Alabama's probably not the number one spot. When you look at the pound-for-pound value, they've got five stars galore coming in, a lot of promise. So, I mean, again, we're not sitting here drawing any conclusions. We're just trying to use old-fashioned logic. Signing period, it's not like back in the old days. You can sit here and have time to go back and build a class. That means he'd have to go and do damage control at Penn State and basically forfeit what he's got here. That's right. I mean, you know, you can't just look at this and say it's a broad statement. This is true in all cases. Right. If you look at Alabama's recruiting class, it doesn't look like a coach or a staff that wants to get out. I mean, this will look like a coach and a staff that worked extremely hard to build the group that's signing just in a couple of weeks here. And they worked too hard on that group to make any other assumptions, you know, in terms of where they want to be. And so I don't give really much credence to it at all. But, hey, it's 2025. There's some bizarre stuff. The calendar is a big problem. Could you guys imagine in the NFL if during the NFL playoffs they had a draft and free agency and coaches moving around? The NFL would never allow it. No. But it is status quo in college football today. And, you know, who gets caught in the middle? Fans and, in many cases, the players. Gee, let me ask you about Tuesday night, one of the more amazing 20 minutes listening to Arkansas Athletic Director Hunter Eurocheck make a fool out of himself, trying to explain why the college football playoff committee did this and did that, certainly putting Notre Dame ahead of Alabama. But it wasn't just that, and I noticed earlier this week you had a spot with Clint Lamb talking about, you know, if you've got a committee that stresses bad losses over good quality wins, strength of schedule. Jimmy, why do you, if you're a conference, want to play another conference game and give one, two, or three teams another loss and then schedule high-profile non-conference games in September against Ohio State or Penn State or whoever? Jimmy, can you talk about what happened Tuesday night and the ramifications? Well, I mean, nothing really new insofar as this. It seems to me that one of the lessons you've learned from the football committee year after year after year is there really is no true benefit to playing a tough schedule. The benefit of what the committee is looking for is number of wins. How many wins do you have? And that seems to be consistent year to year. That's not new. What's particularly upsetting is that this is the year they supposedly told the committee or reinforced that strength of schedule and who you play and who you beat is going to be, you know, a stronger factor than ever. I said at that time, I can't believe they have to say that out loud. Shouldn't this have been the number one thing back from 2014 when they started the whole process? That should have been rule number one back then. Now they're having to tell them to do it. And in my mind, they still haven't really done it. In terms of their explanations for their rankings, you know, the way it comes across to me, guys, is they come up with the rankings however they come up with it. You know, I think they're relying a lot on a handful of metrics to do most of the work. So the metrics do most of the work and then they modify it slightly based on the meeting that they have. And it seems to me that's why when the chairman comes on and whether he's talking to Reese Davis on ESPN or the reporter pool after the interview with Reese Davis, the explanation for why they did this or why they did that always seem silly or illogical. And the reason being, I don't know that that was the conversation that they had in the room, because if they had a conversation in the room about these things, I think the explanations would be better, you know, because there was a reason discussion between experts as to these things. But it sort of sounds like the rankings are the rankings, and then when they explain them, it's the first-time justification, you know, you've got to almost on the fly come up with justifications for the rankings instead of spitting out, well, this is what we discussed in the room and these were the points that were made. It doesn't sound like that at all in terms of what's happening. So, you know, it was just very frustrating, I think, for Alabama fans who thought they should be ranked ahead of Notre Dame. They have a lot of good arguments for why they should be ahead of Notre Dame, and the committee's explanation for why they weren't flat-out was terrible. I mean, it was terrible. And I understand all the frustration. As much credibility as a cockroach at the pizza parlor is the way you look at it. I mean, the thing is, all they need to do is look at Saturday or Sunday when the polls come out, but when's the last time they drastically differed from the AP and the coaches' poll? They just sit there and basically rubber-stamp it, maybe with a little bit of a tweak here and there. Yeah, in the huddle with Jimmy Steinko of Locked On Bama. Jimmy, be there as it may, the show goes on. One way Alabama can shut them up is, I guess, keep on winning it. This last visit with the committee, I'm not even sure that would happen. Unless they get their running game up, maybe that won't be enough. But your thoughts about starting tomorrow, I know it's Eastern Illinois, but last week, this is a chance to sit here and do some scrubbing and do some tweaking and getting ready for truly a tough test next week against Auburn. And who knows beyond that? Yeah, I think most of the time when you're going to play an Eastern Illinois team who's not only an FCS team, and obviously an Alabama power program in the SEC should easily handle any FCS opponent. But Eastern Illinois isn't even a good FCS team this year. So, you know, most of the time I think you play a game like this, the goal is to, hey, let's get our starters out. Let's look at the younger kids. Let's build for the future. Let's get game experience for the guys who are going to be key players on next year's team. Those are all understandable goals in a game like this. But this is a situation that's a little different for Alabama. I think that after two or three weeks of the offense not playing particularly well, or certainly making too many errors like they did a week ago, Saturday might be a great time for the first-team offense to work on some things and gain some consistency, gain some confidence. You know, a great way for a putter in golf to build some confidence if they're not putting well is to get on the practice screen and make a bunch of two-footers. Make a bunch of them and just get used to putting the ball and hearing the ball go in the hole. I think that's what Alabama needs to do Saturday. They need to have some success. You know, it will be two-foot putts, but they have to have a lot of success to build some confidence because you'll want a confident offense going into Jordan-Hare next week. It's obviously going to be a really tough environment, but Auburn's also very good defensively. Until the Vanderbilt game, they hadn't given up 24 points in the game all year. So this is a good defense they have to face in Jordan-Hare. So I think building confidence for your first-team offense needs to be the number one goal for Alabama on Saturday. Jimmy, just quickly, a very impressive basketball win for Alabama over Illinois, 90-86. And we discussed the lack of rebounding against Purdue. They got out-rebounded by 24. Well, Keaton Bristow and Amari Allen decided to do something about that and combined for 19 rebounds themselves. Alabama only got out-rebounded by the Illinois international team by two rebounds. Go to Las Vegas next. They've got three games there beginning Monday night, Gonzaga and UNLV. Impressive win by Nate Oates over the Illini. Sure was. I mean, the top-ten team, you beat a top-ten team away, you know, on the road. Now Alabama's got two of those wins. I'm sure the football committee wasn't too impressed because they didn't run the ball in either of those games. Right. That's it. But the basketball committee, however, and I've never felt more respect for the NCAA selection basketball committee than I have after watching the football committee do its work. But the basketball committee will be hugely impressed by Alabama's wins in New York over St. John, Del Beattie, Illinois, and Chicago. These are March-making wins. And by that, you know, the seeding in the NCAA tournament means a lot in terms of your path. And, hey, this could move just those two wins alone could conceivably be the difference between being a four-seed and a two-seed. I mean, it can make that much of a difference. So the ramifications of the win are huge. But more importantly, I think the team is building a lot of confidence, and maybe Purdue shook the confidence a little bit. But then the Illinois win gets it right back. You've added Bristow to the plan rotation. He looks like a huge addition. Just his energy, his energy and his juice alone, to say nothing of the actual high level of skill, he's going to be just another great add to what was already a deep rotation. On nights that Alabama shoots the ball well, they are going to be very, very tough to beat. I think rebounding will be an issue in some games and some matchups. There is no perfect team. You have to coach around some things. But this is an excellent shooting team, and it's deep. And those things will pay off. But, boy, some tough games ahead next week in Las Vegas. No question about that. And then you come back to play Arizona and Birmingham, so you're right. Jimmy, where can we get online and listen to you? I know you also work with Clint Lamb, but Luke Robinson, the best Alabama sports coverage on the planet. Yeah, Locked on Bama, seven days a week with Luke Robinson. We remember when Nashville was known for country music. Remember those days, B.B.? Sure did. That was known for Diego, Pavia, and Vanderbilt. Maybe we can confirm or deny that with our next guest. Blake Lovell lives in the Music City. He's got it all covered there at Southeastern 16. Blake, welcome in. Is Nashville still known as the country music capital of the world, or has Diego supplanted him? How are you? Yeah, doing well, guys. Well, we'll see if the committee can somehow find a way to get Vanderbilt into the playoff, because if that happens, then maybe it's all in Diego's world a little bit more, but we'll find out. Yeah, we're going to talk about that boy and his team this game this weekend. What's your take? Blake, you've got a neutral seat at the table here, kind of indulging our zip code. You saw the news about Alabama with four wins against top 25 teams being behind a team from up there in Yankee country with one win against top 25 teams. Were you thinking what a lot of folks down here in Corning Cotton Country were thinking? Yeah, I think so. It just doesn't really make any sense. I don't get it. I don't even know what the explanation is, to be honest with you. And you still won't know. No, that's why it's so bizarre. It's like, you know, obviously people have talked about it since Tuesday, and there have been lots of different arguments made, but I'm like, I don't even know that you can argue for this. I just don't know where the sense is for a team that, again, just lost to Oklahoma 23-21 at home and where you now have Oklahoma ranked. And somehow, that is enough to drop them after, like you said, winning all the ranked games in a row. And meanwhile, you look at Notre Dame's resume, and it's like, how did a 37-15 win at Pitt and Alabama losing to this Oklahoma team? How is that the difference? Like, I just, I don't get it. And people can say, well, they penalized for bad losses and all this other stuff. But, my goodness, you know, I just, I don't understand it. Because, like, even, like, right now, like, Notre Dame's lost at Miami, I don't know that I'd call that a good loss based on the fact that Miami's kind of on the outside looking in. It's just, it's nonsense, and there's no, there's no logic to it. Absolutely. Let me ask you about the actual game venues playing Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Well, Cutter Bowley has actually come on for the Cats and turned them into a decent team. Three consecutive wins for Kentucky. Vandy's still on the cusp. I know they're thinking of maybe getting into the college football playoff. Vandy is a 10-point favorite. I wonder if that's a bit much. Vandy has not won a game against Kentucky since 2015. Are they going to tomorrow? I would hope so. I think if you're a Vanderbilt fan, because, again, that's really the only option you have left now. And I think, again, the way Kentucky's been playing, man, it is one that looks a little bit more interesting. And I think that was the thing, why Kentucky fans were so frustrated, was just the fact that, hey, we knew kind of earlier on in the season that there was going to be a lot of pressure put on our defense because of some of the lackluster play of our offense. And I think now, again, I know that Auburn certainly has had its struggles, and Florida as well. But at the same time, you mentioned whether it's Bowling coming along. This is a team that's got some confidence for the first time this season. I think they feel like they have a pretty good chance to go in there and face a Vanderbilt team that, yes, has been pretty consistent. But they've also, as well, played a lot of close games. And, you know, Vanderbilt's just been a team that's having to pull out a lot of those. But I think the Commodores win. But, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Kentucky's defense does a few things here to make this interesting. Blake, we'll check him out, Southeastern 16. Blake, before we get more chalk-topped with some other games, you live in Nashville. What are you hearing about Coach Lee's future? He's got to be a hot commodity. Or folks are going to say, yeah, but he caught lightning in a bottle with Diego Pavi. You can go two ways with that. That's true. But he had the eye for talent. Everybody else had that option. So did Auburn. They passed. He said yes. Your thoughts about Lee's future? Yeah, I think this is going to be one of those things where, again, you kind of know that based on what he's done this season, they at Vanderbilt know that they have to get something done, I think, sooner rather than later. And to me, that is the thing here because of obviously all the other dominoes that are out there that could fall very soon. I think that they are of the understanding over there that this needs to get done in terms of a contract extension and all this other stuff and be in a spot where you have him locked in. Because I think, as you guys know, every season, next week is the week where, let's call it what it is, like all h*** can break loose next week when it comes to just the way that you do start to see some of these dominoes fall. So, my guess is Vanderbilt should be in a position, I would think, very, very soon, and I'm saying very, very soon for a reason, to get something sorted out. But I also, again, would not be surprised because, as you know, too, Vanderbilt can be Vanderbilt sometimes. And if that happens, then maybe you start to get a little bit concerned if you're a Commodore fan. One of the more intriguing games tomorrow is number 23, Missouri, at number 8, Oklahoma. The Sooners, a 10-point favorite. Missouri discovered, again, they can turn around and hand the ball to Maude Hardy and just get out of his way. He ran for 300 yards. Oklahoma's fourth in the FBS run defense. Just ask Kalen DeBoer about that. Oklahoma coming off a big, emotional win over Alabama. Pribula may play the Missouri quarterback. We're hearing, after an injury, a key game as far as the college football playoff and Oklahoma loses, they'd probably be out. Missouri wants to end the season on a very good note. Your thoughts on Missouri at Oklahoma? Yeah, it should be a really good game, like you said. I mean, Oklahoma knows how this works now based on where they sit. Like, this is a game you have to win, and I do feel like, you know, that hangover effect is kind of interesting, too. Coming off the big win in Alabama, you play a Missouri team that I don't want to say doesn't have anything to play for, but it certainly, you know, feels like they were right there several weeks ago. Now, you know, it's kind of taking a step back. You never know kind of how that's going to factor in. Of course, you also don't know how much your players are listening to the coaching stuff when it comes to the inside drinkwits and seeing exactly how they handle that, what is, again, an early kick. All those kind of factors. So I'm going to feel pretty confident in picking Oklahoma here, even though, again, there could be that possible letdown. I do, whether, you know, Drinkwits wants to admit it or not, I do wonder about some of those distractions with Missouri right now. And I just think Oklahoma, knowing what's at stake, seeing them already win some of these road games, whether Tennessee or Alabama, the way they've done it, I think they do enough here to find a way to win it. I'm sure your last thing, how many millions more are you going to offer me? I might need to consider some of that during the game. We're going to pick on you. You're in the Volunteer State. But the team from the Volunteer State is going to go to the Sunshine State. It has been their inferno over the years. Tennessee and Florida, what happens 6.30 our time tomorrow night on ABC? Yeah, I'll tell you what Tennessee fans think is probably going to happen. They're going to be biting their fingernails because this is the kind of game that you guys know. It just does not matter what the scenario is. It doesn't matter the record. It terrifies them to no end. And for obvious reasons. I mean, it's just been so long. They felt good about themselves coming out of that game. So I think this is one where, you know, again, I think for Tennessee, and someone was talking about this the other day, you know, what defines a successful season for Tennessee? And I think at this point, it's like, all right, you're 7-3. You're out of the playoff picture. Man, but think about the two games you've got left. You go to Florida, just a nail-biting, frustrating game as always. And then you've got to potentially host Vanderbilt, who could possibly, potentially play their way into the playoff if they win. And so this is such a, even for a team, again, that's outside the playoff, which is going to be disappointing in and of itself. I think this is still a team that has a lot to play for, because if they were to lose these final two games, you want to talk about some things starting to heat up a little bit. I know they got to the playoff last year, but I think Tennessee finds a way to win this, guys. But I don't know how many times I'm going to ever say that and feel confident when they have to play at the swamp. We're going to get into basketball with you in the upcoming weeks. But what an impressive showing by both Alabama and Auburn in the last four or five days. Alabama with big wins over St. John's. It then played very well against Illinois. They were able to basically dwindle the rebounding disadvantage they had against Purdue. only got out-rebounded by two. Phylon did some tremendous things. Keaton Bristow and Amari Allen combined for 19 rebounds, which certainly helps. Very impressive win for the Tide. Auburn nearly gets number one Houston, or they were number one last week, 73-72 in Birmingham. Very good starts for Alabama and Auburn. Yeah, I think Alabama's the best team in the SEC. I don't think that's much of a surprise just based on, I think, how more consistent they've been than a lot of other teams in the SEC right now. And I think that's the big thing is you can pick on Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and so forth. I just think Alabama has the highest upside. And, you know, all summer for me it was about, well, I'd like to see what the frontcourt development's going to look like. I think that's still a work in progress. But the thing is, Alabama's guard play and perimeter play is going to be so good that they don't need their frontcourt to be elite. They just need their frontcourt to be good enough. And I think we're seeing that so far. They have one of the best players in the country in Phylon. So right now, in my opinion, Alabama's the team to beat in the SEC. And then with Auburn, I'll be honest, like, I've been very impressed with their response. I mean, you know how many people were overreacting after game one against Bethune-Cookman. You have to win it in overtime. But you look at the way they have not just responded in terms of win-loss, but I think just how they've corrected a lot of things from that game. And really, it seems like Stephen Pearl's got a really good feel of what he has roster-wise right now. And, I mean, the Keyshawn Hall injury, keep an eye on that, of course. I mean, he's the best player. But they've got a tough stretch coming up, right? I mean, Oregon, Michigan, NC State, Arizona, Purdue. We're going to find out a lot more about Auburn. But so far, I think they've really turned things around, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're right there in that SEC title race this season. No question about that. Great stuff. Football, basketball, you name it, you cover it. And I know, again, this time of the year, with both basketball and football going on, it is busy times as far as the podcast are concerned. Where can we get online to get the best on the planet with you? Yeah, I appreciate it, guys. Yeah, Southeastern 16, of course, on YouTube or any podcast app you use. If Alabama finds a running game by tomorrow, what are their chances against Eastern Illinois? You know, I think they'll be okay. We'll be more talking about Kalen and Boer going to Penn State, probably. Oh, yeah. A lot on your podcast. Hey, listen, have a great weekend. Thanks so much. You time on a Friday, Blake. He's Bill Shanks, host of The Bill Shanks Show on 93.1 FM in Macon, Georgia. Online at thesesuperstations.com. And puts his handsome face there on the tube at 41 NBC. Bill Shanks, welcome in. How are you? Very well. How are y'all? Man, well, we're about as good as the committee in the eyes of Alabama fans. Bill, have you had Hunter on your show this week to explain why they did what they did to Alabama? What a DB he is. Man, a lot. I mean, he's just... You're going to hurt his feelings, Bill. He's at the manicure place getting one right now. You're going to make him cry. I don't care. I don't care. I've been up for about that a long time ago, Harold, you know. I mean, I hit 40, 50, 15 years ago, and I gave up. You know, look, I think it's scary because we need roadmaps. We need to know what the h*** to do. We need... As football programs, we need to know what to do and what they want. And if there's no consistency... And I can't imagine that Baylor guy getting off and this Hunter dude getting on and making that different. But still, it's just... You know, I mean, Brett and I have talked about on my show, which I'm still waiting for the award, is to have AI pick it. I mean, just let them... Artificial intelligence pick it because these people, they're just morons, evidently. Here's the deal with it, Bill. Obviously, if you don't like Alabama, you're going, yeah. But what's going to happen when they use that same plan against your team? And you know it's coming, certainly next year with nine teams in the SEC. And what kind of AD would want to sit here and schedule a tough out-of-conference opponent? Because the committee, I don't care what they preach, they practice the same thing year in and year out. All we're going to do at the end of the year is look at your win-loss record and sit here and spin everything else. Well, and Greg Sankey's got to take control. I mean, I know he has done everything he can do, but I think he's going to have to continue to beat the drum on this. And look, I know they don't want to hear from the big, powerful SEC, but, you know... And I was thinking yesterday after we talked, Brett, about this, you know, maybe what's going to have to happen is for the SEC teams to get into the playoff and just beat the h*** out of everybody. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe that'll work. Maybe that'll clue them in as to how good the conference is, but, you know, I don't know. It's just, it's beyond troubling, but, you know, because you want to have some guidance of what they're looking for. Yeah. But to look at a loss more than you look at a win, that's what does it. You had two very good points yesterday in our discussion. The first one is, and Harold's mentioned this too, what happens in the SEC championship game? And again, we'll find out next week who's going to be in there. It looks like Texas A&M, they've got to beat Texas after Georgia did, of course, but it's going to be Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss vying for the other slot. What happens if one of those three teams just has a bad game? They have a couple of turnovers. They've got injured players, they've got injured players, and they get beat. Is the committee then, well, you've got a second loss or you've got a third loss. Third loss. Yeah, the h*** with you here. And then you brought up another good point, and I've thought about this for years as far as a metric. Shouldn't the committee take into account when a team beats an opponent? For example, Alabama beat Missouri on the road, by the way, October the 11th, 27-24. At that time, Missouri was undefeated at 5-0 in rank number 14. Today, they're 7-3 in rank number 22. Your thoughts on what happens to the loser to get in, and then I think they need to seriously look at adding that metric as far as putting all this together. Well, what was weird the other night, Brett, was the notion of, all right, well, they've beaten X amount of teams that are currently ranked. That doesn't matter. What matters is, for example, and we used this yesterday, and you just mentioned it, when Alabama played Missouri, Missouri was undefeated in Columbia. So if Alabama went there and beat an undefeated Missouri team, well, that's a much more impressive win than beating them now that they've got two losses or three losses or whatever it is. So it's like how, and I'm always amazed at that. I mean, I keep up with what people's records are against ranked opponents, but let me tell you what I do. I don't go to today's AP Top 25. I go to the schedule and see what teams were ranked at the time those teams played their opponents. Thank you. And if ranked, that to me is what is more relevant because that means when you played them, you, if you were a ranked opponent, if you're a ranked team yourself, which was what we're talking about, you were in a game with two ranked opponents. It's like last week, Georgia and Texas, two ranked opponents. Okay. Right. Well, Georgia plays them this week. They may not be so, so that's a less of a loss. I mean, that's what doesn't make any sense. And I think they do need very big clarification. I don't know why they would put a premium on who's ranked now. Well, I mean, we've seen teams, and I think you said this yesterday, h***, I mean, you're talking about teams that have already lost their coaches. Well, if you beat LSU early in the season, that was a ranked team against a team that was in the, what, top six, seven to start. Right, right, right. They're a lot better than right now, but you can't punish a team for what happened to the other team after you played them. So, you know, the bottom line is people, you know, if they don't think like the three of us, they're just lost. There you go. I totally, we finally agree on something. Bill, the thing is, one of the reasons that team was 14th and now 22nd is because you beat your butts. That's why they tumbled. I mean, that's why they're, that's why they're ranked. One of the reasons why they're ranked now compared to where they were. And the other thing I thought, they're sitting here criticizing Alabama for a lack of a running game. Does it freaking matter how you win the ball game for its 9,000 passes or 9,000 runs as long as you win? And speaking of that, on the other side of the coin bill, you've got to feel good as a dog because it looks like Kirby got these boys peaking at the right time. Well, let me mention about the running game situation. I mean, I've criticized Alabama because I think that it is a flaw and it's un-Alabama-like, right, to not have a running game. But I hate to tell the committee, even though you could say, well, Alabama doesn't have much running game, they outrushed Oklahoma and still lost the other day. Listen, almost 500 yards against one of the premier defensive minds in the country. It's the power of the turnover, Bill. And I always keep track of who outrushes whom. I think it is important. But, you know, it's not a foolproof system. But the other day, even though Alabama lost the game, they outrushed Oklahoma. And Oklahoma, we know, doesn't have a very good running game. But that doesn't mean you can bring up the fact that we're going to punish Alabama because they don't have a running game. But they awarded Oklahoma because they did have – don't have – think about it. They said they're going to punish you. They didn't have a running game against Alabama, but they moved into the top ten. That's right. And, you know, the other thing is that when Alabama lost to Florida State, they didn't have no d*** running back in that game. No. I guarantee – and I would think pretty clearly that FSU probably outrushed them. I don't know for sure. But, I mean, Jim Miller wasn't playing in that game, right? Did he play in the corner or not? I'm not sure. No. No. Yeah, he was hurt. Because they brought him back conveniently for the Georgia game, of course, b*******. But, I mean, you know – I mean, but still, that was irrelevant. As far as the dogs, we're kicking a**. We're the national champions. And y'all don't know what to look like. Right. It's a matter of time. That's right. What's Kirby doing different? What's in the water over there? What's Kirby doing differently? All of a sudden, it's like a little engine. It's like a train getting some steam. Starts out slow. I'll tell you what. It's really something because this is a really young team. And we were just at lunch talking about how many people are going to be back. And tomorrow is senior day. And, like, how many people are they going to have out there? It is something to see. You want to talk about a team developing. And I've used the analogy in the old days where we had stereos and we would turn it up one number at a time from three to four to four to five, five to six, six to seven. That's the improvement level of this team, by the way. And it's really, truly something to see now. I was watching television last night and flipping on the guide, and I saw that they were replaying the Georgia-Texas game on television. So I flipped it over there, and they manhandled Texas. I mean, that was – I saw it live. But sometimes it's funny when you see it live and then you turn around and see it on TV, you're even more taken aback by it. I mean, they blew Texas off the ball. They rattled Arch Manning. They dominated that game. And, I mean, I know you could say, well, they won by 25 points. Okay, yeah, but, I mean, it was not even close. It was – even when the score was close, it wasn't close because it was just – and it's a testament to how much they've improved. And, you know, all jokes aside, there's not many teams that are going to want to play Georgia right now because they are – I don't know if they're peaking, but they are – It's just the – it's the improvement factor of they're better now than they were – you know, they had a bad game in Jacksonville. They didn't play very well. And they still won because they were – it was 60 minutes. You're able to outlast some people. And, you know, the score would have been more than four if Gunnar would have walked in there instead of being a wuss afraid that Kirby would make him run up Baxter Hill. But still, still, they won that game. And with the exception of one game where Kirby had a brain fart and didn't kick the field goal. It's been pretty – it's been – but even if it's the Alabama game, I mean, if y'all were to see – if Alabama was to play Georgia two weeks from now, they would see a different team than what they saw when they came to Athens because they're just so much better now than they were two months ago. So, it's really something to see. Several people have asked me to ask you about the Braves this week. So, re-signing Iglesias as far as the closure of one year, $16 million. They also traded for the – pardon me, Nick Allen for the Houston shortstop. And they also wanted to ask you about pitching. Since they declined the options on Pierce Johnson and Tyler Kinley, they need some setup, guys. Talk about what they've done and what you think they're going to do. Well, let's talk about the bullpen first. I mean, they wanted to bring back Iglesias. He wanted to come back. And so, he – I think the agent made him go into free agency so he'd get some offers. The Braves probably tried to get him at a little bit lower rate, but they – because of the fact that Dodgers and the Blue Jays got involved with $16 million offers. The Orioles and – I can't remember one more team also had not gone to the store. He was able to kind of leverage his way to the same salary he had last year. Look, I think he's a great closer. He's a great guy in the clubhouse. He loves being there. They love him. So, they needed to bring him back, and I think even though it's the same as last year, who cares? I mean, he's effective. He started off slow last year, but he was very good after, you know, his last half of the season. He was great. Didn't allow an earned run in his last 13 games. They do. They need some more bullpen arms. I mean, they – you know, I think Alex Anthopoulos did admit what I, I think, mentioned on the show. There was Joe Jimenez had another cleanup procedure, as he called it. So, they got to worry about him, and we'll see in spring training. We'll know until spring training of how Joe's doing. You know, you got – you got the decision to make on Reynaldo Lopez. Do you put him back in the bullpen? Do you take a shot at him in the rotation? What do you do with him? I think you got to go – and Alex has said this. We need some more elite pitchers. So, I think they're going to sign two or three more. And, you know, they will all be big dollar guys, but I think they're going to add some pitchers. As far as the shortstop, I mean, he's a super utility guy. I don't think he's going to be the shortstop. He's a – he could be if they strike out on trying to get a better player at shortstop. They may resort to him or settle for him at shortstop. But he's a very good teammate from all reports, and they loved him in Houston. He's very versatile. He's played all four infields and all three outfield positions. So, you know, in today's game with all these daggum wussy baseball players having to go on the end list for two or three months, you need somebody like that. And I think that's – they kind of looked at that and said, you know, that is what we need. So, I think that was a good addition, and I think it will help a great deal. What about – but what are you hearing about getting at least one veteran durable, underline durable, starting pitcher? Durable. Finally one. Well, no names have really been mentioned yet. I mean, there are a pretty good number of them, and it's a question of how far they want to go. Dylan Cease is a name that I think is out there, Brett, only because he's from Milton, Georgia, which is 20 miles north of where Truist Park is. He's going to want a lot of money. He would be the highest-paid brave if they sign him. So, that'll be interesting. I'm sure he wants to come to Atlanta. I mean, again, 20 miles from his home. But Scott Boris is his agent. But somebody like that needed – because Dylan Cease is an innings either, and he's durable, like you say, and that's something that really is needed for this team because they've got a lot of questions coming back. I mean, Chris Dale, h***, he's y'all's age, and he's skinny as h***. He's 47. That's not old. That's right, yeah. And I'd rather be his agent skinny than old and fat like me. But, you know, he's a question mark. And Schwellenbach broke his elbow for crying out loud, so he's a question mark. Obviously, Spencer Strider's got to be better. So, you've got to hope he'll be better and durable for the full season. And you've just got some issues. You've got to go get some more. You know, I almost wonder, and I probably wouldn't say this, if it was a team that's better at spending money, if quantity is as good as quality. I'm not saying they need to, you know, go hire some bad pitchers here, but they need a lot because the last years have just been a mess with keeping people healthy, as it is around the whole game. And I think the number they bring in is going to be as important, really, as the quality of the pitcher they bring in. Absolutely. Well, next week is Thanksgiving, and as much as we enjoy kidding you, we're thankful to work with you on a weekly basis, give your mother a hug, the dogs a hug. In that meeting, the executive board considered an amendment to the APLS guidelines that would classify gender ideology as an inappropriate concept to be part of children and teen book sections in public libraries. That amendment was voted on and passed. Only two APLS board members voted against it, Ronald Snyder and Angelia Stokes. The guidelines prohibit sexually explicit materials and any materials that promote transgender procedures, gender ideology, or the idea that there are more than two genders. APLS Chairman John Wall said that the people of Alabama made it very clear where they stand on this issue and that they wanted the amendment to be adopted within the APLS guidelines. Wall also emphasized that the books are not being banned from the libraries, but are just not being put within the children or teen sections. Instead, they're being moved to the adult section where parents must play a part in approving their child's access to those books. I'll be back with more Alabama stories after this. When you see Tom Turkey getting nervous, you know the rest of us football fans are the same. Mike, we want to talk chalk with you about some of the games leading into the weekend. But you have the national seat at the table here. Your thoughts about a thing called the CFP poll this past week. I don't think I have to go too far into this to get your thoughts on this. Notre Dame 9, Alabama 10. Where do you start in your reaction to that news? It's interesting. I think people, let's wait and see what happens at the end. I think the team that is probably the most irritated is Miami because Miami beat Notre Dame. And they're fourth block behind them. You know, being ninth or tenth, who cares? But Miami is, as of right now, they're not making the playoff because they're not even going to get to the ACC title game. But one of the teams they beat head-to-head is. And people are talking about the college football playoff spokesman basically said Notre Dame's losses are better than Miami's losses, which, yeah, they are. But the problem is one of those Notre Dame losses came to Miami. So that's certainly interesting. You know, the SEC, to me, they're going to get at least four teams, maybe five. I don't think any SEC team, frankly, should be whining yet. Unless maybe if you're in this zip code, here's where they, to answer your question, why they would whine is, you've got four wins against ranked teams. Notre Dame's got one. Notre Dame has more wiggle room. I agree with you. Alabama's still got to win out. But the committee all season long has been preaching strength of schedule. And that's why people are whining. Who's telling the truth? Which side of the mouth are you talking out of? That's true. I mean, there's three Big Ten teams in the top eight. They have three games against other top ten teams. Three. Oklahoma has, I'm sorry, three teams, three games against teams ranked in the top 25. Oklahoma alone's got five. So, there is an unfairness here. You know, Ohio State, the best, they really haven't beaten, they haven't beaten nobody, frankly. Indiana's win is against Oregon. Oregon's win, I can't even remember. They've only played one game against the top 25 team. Thank you. And that is, that is a team that beat them, Indiana. So, you know, it's interesting, though, the same, some of this stuff, it bugs me. Everybody said, get the computers out. So, they did. And now, the same people who were complaining before are, we've got to put the computers back in. So, you know, no one's ever going to be happy. And I don't think you can sit there as the spokesman. It's unfair to be the spokesman, because you're basically being told to speak for 11 other people. And, you know, for all I know, Hunter Urechek is like, yeah, Alabama should be higher, and Ohio State should not be number one. So, but he can't say that, obviously, because he's speaking for the group as a whole. I think a lot of this is, when the first poll came out, Ohio State was number one. They haven't lost. They haven't even been tested. And so, they've got to keep them number one. So, that's, I think, part of what the issue is. I think computers take a lot of this stuff into account. I'm not sure humans always do. Well, we know common sense, though. The computers aren't going to garbage in, garbage out. It's what they put into the computer. So, if you want to, even with a computer, it can be biased depending on who puts the stuff in there. We know Notre Dame, chances are not going to slip tomorrow because that mighty schedule that they're facing, they're taking on Syracuse. By the way, the 16th worst team in the ACC. So, I don't think Notre Dame, and then they've got to close out with Stanford. So, I don't see Notre Dame slipping anytime soon. They're not going to lose. But, you know. Well, that's the point, yeah. Yeah, but I mean, I'll also say this. If Notre Dame played Syracuse in game one, it would be different. Just like, you know. Yeah, it would. Look at how many pitiful games, absolutely pitiful games the SEC is playing tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow, I agree. I think there's five games against FCS schools tomorrow. So, I think that a lot of it is, there's a lot of, what's the word I want here? I don't know. I think sometimes that when the college football playoff ranking committee meets, they don't take everything into context. And your point about the computers, what's programmed in is, you know, what you get out. But I think if you look at the computers, a lot of them are pretty solid this year in terms of how they rank the teams. And, again, I think Notre Dame is playing high-level football. But, you know, you're right. The schedule is such that their last two games are against teams that are horrible. Syracuse, once they lost its quarterback, fell off the face of the earth. And, you know, what's interesting is if Syracuse had their starting quarterback, he's the guy who got beat out at Notre Dame. So, that would have been a dangerous game. But, you know, in no form or fashion does Stanford dangerous. So, Notre Dame is going to be there 10-2. It will be interesting to see on the last weekend, are they going to host a first-round playoff game or go on the road? You mentioned Oregon. They've got a key game tomorrow. They're hosting number 17, USC. Oregon's number 6. I guarantee you teams 7 through 11 are going to be watching the scoreboard for this. USC's offense has been very good. Mavia, they're averaging 503 yards a game. Jacoby Lane, Lemon, their wide receiver. King Miller's pretty good. Running back, Deontay Moore with Oregon. USC has certainly improved. Their defense is even playing better. But it's a game in Oregon. Make your thoughts. Yeah, I think playing at Austin, that is an extremely difficult environment. You know, it's been sort of weird. The best game in the Big Ten tomorrow is Oregon-USC. And you mentioned Mekhi Lemon is the second-best receiver in the country. Jeremiah Smith's the only one that's better. Jacoby Lane isn't bad. The USC running game is good. I think the weakness for USC is Mavia. I think he is limited. He is a big dude. He can run. He's got a strong arm. I think he makes some bad decisions. I also am not a huge fan of Deontay Moore. I think he has an extremely high ceiling. But you also read, and you watch games, that there's NFL scouts out there saying, man, he really needs to stay in school for a year. And I agree with that. I think he can become much more polished. I think where Oregon has the advantage, Dan Lanning brought the SEC style of recruiting to Oregon. They have a heck of a lot more depth on their defensive line than USC does. I think that's where USC sort of breaks down. I think the offense is, this is more of a true Lincoln-Riley offense, even without an elite quarterback. The defense is better. They have become more physical. The problem is their depth up front on defense lets them down. So I think Oregon wins an entertaining game tomorrow. But I think Oregon's physicality wins out. And hello with Mike Huguenin, National College football slash basketball analyst down in Orlando, Florida. Let's talk about that game, Mike, right up the road from you there in Gainesville. Has Florida got Tennessee right where they want them? They got an interim coach. They're having a down year. But they got the home field advantage against Tennessee, where it has been Dante's inferno over the years. Your thoughts about Tennessee on the road to your backyard, Florida Gators. Yeah, I think Tennessee has lost at least three games I can think of in the last 15 years in Gainesville. They're 7-3. Florida's 3-7. On paper, you look at what Tennessee can do well. Well, Florida doesn't do well. Basically, Tennessee can score and Florida can't. Yeah. Yeah, the Vols win. But I will say this about Florida. Florida had a legit chance to beat Georgia with four minutes left in the game. They led Ole Miss going into the fourth quarter last week. The problem with Florida, their offense, it's brutal. You know, Billy Napier is gone, no longer calling plays. It's still his playbook. And that playbook's written in crayon. It's bad. But Florida has the defense, at least, to make Tennessee work. And Florida can be exploited with the deep ball, so Chris Brazel should be excited. But Florida is getting Caleb Banks back tomorrow. He's a defensive lineman who was seen as a potential late first-round pick, early second. He's played in one game this year for 32 plays. He had a messed-up foot coming into the season, messed up his foot again in that game. He is coming back. Pro Scouts have told him bluntly, we need to see you do something. You need to tape. So Caleb Banks said, I'm playing. And he torched. He was awesome down the stretch last year against LSU and Ole Miss. He is a difference-maker up front. It will be interesting to see if Florida can get a pass rush on Aguilar. If they can, that just becomes even more interesting. And you're right. Florida field has been a house of horrors for the ball. Number 23, Missouri at number eight, Oklahoma. Alabama out at Oklahoma in everything except the scoreboard. Two to one in most advantage. But when you make three turnovers, you're not going to win the game. The Sooners, are they going to have a hangover? They're emotional after beating Alabama. Missouri kind of found themselves again last week. Turn around and give the ball to Ahmaud Hardy. Tribula may play Oklahoma's defense, as everybody knows, is pretty good, in particular against the run. The Sooners, a nine-point, nine-and-a-half-point favorite, Mike, hosting Missouri. Yeah, that's too many points. I think there is going to be a hangover. They beat Tennessee in Knoxville, which is difficult. They beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. It's extremely difficult. And you figure that, yeah, they're riding high right now. Defensively, they are stout. Offensively, I think there's still some issues there. John Mateer has not been the same player since he heard it. Missouri is supposed to get Bo Perpula back, which will be a benefit. But, you know, you're right. Hardy, you know, there were some games this year where you would watch and you're like, do they realize what they have at running? Really? Exactly. And I'm not sure they did. Yes, the backup is really good, but Hardy's better. He runs for .300 last week. It's hard to run for a better than anybody in the SEC. Presumably, Brent Venables and his staff have watched tape, realized if Missouri runs for .200 on us, we're in deep trouble. We're going to live. If they run for .140 and .150, we can live with that. And I think that's what they're going to be doing tomorrow, go all out to stop the run, make Perpula, presumably beat them with his arm. Missouri ain't beating anybody if they have to throw the ball. So, I think Oklahoma's defense will be big time geared up to stop the run. I think that John Mater will do just enough. I think Oklahoma wins, but I think it will be a close game. That spread is way too high, I think. Mike Hugen again, college football analyst and also basketball. Mike, let's talk about a team that's in hot water, and that's Texas taking on Arkansas. Texas, they've spent a lot of money on this. We've seen the rumblings about maybe Sartre looking at the NFL. You know those oil men and women out there, they want a return on their investment. They're not getting it right now. Your thoughts about Texas and Sartre going forward? Yeah, I'm not buying the NFL. I'm not sure any NFL team wants them. I think, you know, I'm not sure the New York Giants want to hire Steve Sarkeesian. That's the only job that's open right now. I'm sure there will be some others, but I'm not sure about that in terms of him going to the NFL. Your point about the oil money, whatever they're paying for the offensive linemen, they've drilled dry wells all over the place. The flip side, you, me, and Brett could run for 100 yards on Arkansas. So that is an absolute sieve. So presumably, Arch Manning will have a solid day. Texas will run the ball for 150 yards, which is a mind-blowing high number for Texas. That would be actually pretty good defense for Arkansas. But I think Texas' defense is still good. They wore down last week, and Georgia ran away from them in the fourth quarter. But I will say this. If Texas were to lose to Arkansas, I think the Sarkeesian latest here, I think that talk would ramp up. Yes, I know Texas was in a playoff last year, but you do not lose to this Arkansas team. This is a horrible Arkansas team, and I think Texas is going to lose to A&M anyway. So that's a four-loss season. So if they lose to Arkansas, though, I think a lot of stuff could start happening behind the scenes. I think you're exactly right about that. Great stuff, as always. I really enjoy breaking down games with you in the landscape of college football, college basketball. Alabama and Auburn are playing pretty well. We'll be talking with you about college basketball certainly more in the next couple of weeks. Listen, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. It is here, showtime in high school football, getting down to the nitty-gritty. Zach Pounder's got it all covered there with the show sports report. Zach, welcome in. Happy Friday to you. How are you? Doing good. How are y'all? Doing good. Well, I think a lot of folks are saying, rain, rain, go away. Come back another day. It's down to basically, as they say, the end is near for the season. The regular season is obviously over. Now, you're deep into the playoffs. Where do we start, Zach? Mars Hill Bible, very impressive. Taking on Geraldine. The game at Mars Hill Bible. They're 12-0. Taking on 11-1 Geraldine. Mars Hill Bible's already knocked off one of the neighbors from over there in Jackson County, and Scottsboro, who, by the way, won last night at the 5-A level. They're moving on deeper into the playoffs themselves. Your thoughts about Mars Hill Bible taking on Geraldine. I'll say, first of all, Mars Hill props to Scottsboro last night for winning that game. Yeah, I think it was 16-14, but also props to Mars Hill for playing on Scottsboro and beating them by 27 in week 11. That's just how good it really is. To beat Madison Academy, second-round team, Russell's second-round team, and now Scottsboro, a semi-final team, all by 20 points this year. I like to see a high-final team below 4-A, if I have scheduled that tough, and win by that many points in those games. Mars Hill's playing a 5-33, joining the schedule, creating the record this year. Their opponents have come by 71 wins, and see who lost it before tonight. That is stronger than multiple shows, who's also undefeated. That's one last game. And it's probably one of the strong ones that stayed below 4-A left. Let me ask you about the Muscle Shoals game. I saw the Muscle Shoals-Parker game last week in the first half. Quite frankly, Parker outplayed Muscle Shoals. Their defensive front seven got after, tackles for a loss, a couple of sacks. And then Scott Basin, who's the Kirby Smart of high school, made some halftime adjustments. Muscle Shoals started running the ball much better. The real key was three interceptions, two in the red zone by Muscle Shoals. Pritchard had two of those. The Trojans' defense has played amazing, as you know, 7.6 points per game. Mountain Brook still is good. Cade Clements has developed and come on. We know the ferocious front seven of Muscle Shoals going on the road to play Mountain Brook. And, again, I mentioned this yesterday. Their stands are on the same side. Vister and home stands on the same side. That's one of the more unique venues in high school football. Zach, does Muscle Shoals win tonight in advance to probably play Clay Chalkville in the semifinals? I thought about the stands on the same side. And I thought, that is very strange for a 6-10 school to have the same side of the field fans. But also, the home-build advantage and a 10 for both teams. Because if you're playing the other hash, it's less noise coming from the other side. Where on the other stadium, the noise is just bottled into one. But both these teams have not had a quarter-final win since 2022. That was the last time both went to the semifinals and they played each other in 2022 semis also. So, they both played Parker. Mountain Brook lost to Parker by 16. Muscle Shoals beat Parker by three. With a second-half shutout. The key for this, I like to see it. Can Mountain Brook score second half from Muscle Shoals? Muscle Shoals has not allowed a point in a competitive game in the second half. There you go. Since, I think, the whole season. Yeah. I think the game was 38-6. And it was 38-12 in the first time. So, if it's competitive in the second half, come out with two of Muscle Shoals. Parker was up 14-7 at halftime. Hartzell was up 17-10 at halftime, I think. And Jackson was up 15-14 at halftime. That's three of Muscle Shoals' last five games. The second half shutout is the key for me on this game. And also, it's a road trip. You've got to go on a bus for two hours. I'll be in the shorter road trip this week. If it's competitive, I want to see how that home good advantage plays in with the stands on the same side of the field. Because that means for Muscle Shoals, I don't know how their benches are set at Mountain Brook. But I'm assuming the home side, the sideline is on the side of the seat. So, I would assume, for Shoals' side, you'd have less noise to worry about borrowing in and down from the crowd versus like that, there's more fuel. And the thing is, you would think, Mountain, if you look up the money part of the richest school in Alabama, probably Mountain Brook's number one, you'd think they could afford to put a sideline over there and make room on the other side. I mean, it's not like they're sitting here selling Coke bottles, you know. I'll tell you yesterday, I think it's the school that goes right up against the stadium. I think it's where it's like landlocked with the mountains and all that, whatever down there. And it looks like there's a building that goes right behind that side, that fourth stall that takes to be on one side. Mm-hmm. Without putting them on the ends and all that. Yeah. It's kind of like Vanderbilt with basketball. They've got an unusual configuration, too. But let me ask you this to follow up on that game. To me, I think a lot of folks, whether you root in game in and game out during a regular season for Muscle Shoals, I think a lot of high school fans are rooting for Muscle Shoals because it's time that a team from our neck of the country beat one of those premier programs in the Birmingham area. That, to me, would be a statement for a team to finally get that monkey out their back. Yeah, but the thing is, if Muscle Shoals wins this game, they didn't play tall, but it's three. There you go. Right. Yeah. But Clay would come to Muscle Shoals or homeowner would come to Muscle Shoals. So if Muscle Shoals wins this, they get one more game at home. And next week, and then on Friday, when you're at a normal routine, you've got to go to a bus because Muscle Shoals won the ball. I'm afraid not next week. It really is rare and quite a privilege to have two Shoals teams playing in the quarterfinals, Mars Hill and then Dessler. But Dessler's hosting a very, very good undefeated Aniston team. Aniston beat Aniston Academy last week 44-12. Dessler beats an undefeated Hamilton team 31-30. Garrett Breed blocks an extra point in overtime, and Dessler wins the game. We've talked about Dessler quite a bit. Price Thorne, a quarterback. Henry Gunn, Garrett Breed plays three or four positions, even punts. Damon Pope is really good for Aniston. Aniston is a very good team. Your thoughts tonight of the Tigers hosting Aniston? Aniston has went on a road game far off this year. They went to play the Beauregard week one of their season, and it was like three hours away down to Auburn, I think. But for this game, it's really close. It's about not last week. Both offenses are very close, and both defenses are. I think this week, Dessler has a better offense. Aniston has a better defense. Or last week, Dessler has a better defense. Hamilton has a better offense. And defense came through. It's tough to play at Tuscumbia. It's tough to play at Dessler. And these hits have played three times in the last 15 years. Twice in the third round, and once in the first round. Dessler has won the one at Dessler. And then Dessler also won at Aniston in 2010. Aniston won 2019. But this game is very close, I think. It could be like last week. Both teams have won a quarterfinal game this decade. However, I do think that West Memorial loss, Dessler, reset to him. Yeah. And got him at focus to where, hey, we can lose the game. We can be beat or whatever. Because the four West Memorial, they had rolled their schedule, beating Danville, Wilson, Carver County, Central, Bruce by 14, West Lyme, some by 30-foot, East Lawrence in a shutout. West Memorial, just snapped him in the face, there he said, beat North Jackson. And last week, Hamilton, I tell people that always is, I had the post ready to go, double overtime, Denver 31, out of 31. And I look up, and it's blocked. And they are sprinting down the field. One of the coaches told me he didn't see four every muscle on his back sprinting down the field. But I will. But it's one of those games where at this point in the season, everybody's good. There's no more one-hit wonders now where necessarily the winner of this game gets to Plainview. And if Dessler wins, Dessler will go to Plainview. Now, I think Plainview is hosting regardless of the hit. Plainview is hosting semifinals regardless of the North. So, the winner is going to Plainview next week. It's to Rainsville, up around five. But, first of all, tonight, I think it's very close. Aniston is the farthest road trip of this week for the playoffs in the North area. And it's three hours. I was thinking last night about what time would I leave if I was bringing a team out here or whatever. And I think I'd have to look about 10.30 this morning for Aniston Dessler. That's about right. And, again, Plainview is the Pruitts. Jeremy Pruitt, offensive and defensive coordinator. But before we let you go, just a tip of the count to a couple of the Shoals teams. They lost last week, but they had a good season. Gordo, 10-1 out of Tuscaloosa beat Colbert County, 49-29. But the loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Colbert County. They ended up the season 8-4. They'd scored, and you mentioned this, at least 60 points in their last four games. They had a very impressive year with Oscar Bonds. Lexington lost to Kusa Christian. Who is that? Well, that's the interim coach, Rush Probst. Lexington, with Brett Mast, finished the season 8-4. And I know the Kusa Christians won nine in a row. But a very good year for Brett Mast. Heckelberg lost to Humperville for the second time in three weeks. And Russell will finish 7-5, losing to a very good Briarwood Christian team. But our tip of the count, certainly, to those teams and having a very good year. Where can we get online tonight, get the recap, get a preview for next week, all of the good stuff? Facebook, show of sports reports, read your words. And then Twitter, at lowercase, S-H-O-A-L-S-T-O-R-T-S. We've got basketball coming up next week, too. There's a lot of how football goes. We've got 50-plus games of basketball next Monday, Tuesday, that we'll have as many scores. And that's what we can find next week. Great stuff. Listen, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Really have enjoyed the insight. Hopefully, we'll be talking about at least one or two teams advancing to the semifinals next week. Always appreciate your time, Zach. Thank y'all. Doug Segrist, welcome in. How are you? Well, Harold, I'm just great. How are you guys doing? Hey, buddy. Man, we're doing all right. Was your book named for Alabama fans after they saw the latest rankings this week? A storm came up. Doug, you weren't in that room. You didn't cast the title right in voting that, did you? No, no. I wish I'd seen the comment. Listen, I'm shocked. I think this is bad news for Alabama, but frankly, I don't like to criticize the committee because I think they're trying to do the best job. But this may be the most asinine ranking I've seen because, you know, what are you putting an emphasis on? Well, so-and-so has one win over such-and-such. So-and-so has this win. So-and-so. Oh, my God. Texas A&M came back down 30 against South Carolina at home. Oh, but Alabama was down eight on the road against South Carolina. That's a bad loss. Yeah. None of it makes any sense. And the bottom line, you're supposed to be emphasizing strength of schedule and strength of record. Right. And Alabama has two losses, but they measure up better than most one-loss teams in that regard. And, you know, I just fear for the SEC. Thank you. You're going to a non-game schedule next year, and you're not getting credit for these games. It's not just Alabama. We saw it last year with Ole Miss and South Carolina. Yeah. Well, we've been talking with some folks across the country. I said, well, the SEC is going to get four teams in, so what's the big deal? Well, if you're the fifth team, that's the big deal. You're giving Notre Dame a mulligan. You're giving them wiggle room. That is the big deal right now. It's going to play itself out. And let's face it, to be objective about it, Alabama's still got to take care of business. They've got to win out. But, nonetheless, to me, that's not the issue. Notre Dame's a good team. It's taking nothing away from Notre Dame. The kids are planning a schedule in front of them. They're winning. To me, it goes back to the committee sitting here and, let's face it, being hypocrites. They preach strength of schedule, and then they come up with rationales like, well, Alabama's running game is not up to snuff. What the is that? Well, I'll tell you this. Notre Dame, to me, passes the eye test. I will tell you that I think Notre Dame is better than Oregon. It's better than Texas Tech. I think Notre Dame is under-ranked. Oh, they lost two games first of the season. Look how they lost. They both came down the wire. Could have gone either way. Playing top 15 teams. Again, that should mean something. I don't know if Oregon has beaten anybody with a pulse, and I love Oregon. You know, it's one of my non-SEC favorites, but I'm not sure they're deserving. Texas Tech, again, they've had some really impressive wins, but against two. Right. And even Ohio State, Indiana, certainly, in my mind, they're the two best teams this season. This is not Indiana of last year. This is a very deserving team. But, again, you know, they have one victory apiece. And we're really kind of banking on Ohio State for their season opener, one-score victory against Texas. And Texas is out of the equation. So, this is frustrating. Absolutely. What a year Auburn's had. We've been falling, of course, every week with close losses to very good teams. Auburn faced plans against Kentucky, and he calls Hugh Freeze his job. They've got Mercer tomorrow and, of course, finished with a cold Iron Bowl next week. We're hearing John Summerall at Hugh Lane now, formerly at Troy and Grissom High School in Kentucky, may be the frontrunner for the job. They've had an amazing year. They play a good Mercer team tomorrow. Doug, your thoughts on Auburn and where they're going. I think they're this close. And, again, you know, if those one-score games slip, this team could be going in the Iron Bowl, playing for a playoff berth itself. They're not that far off. The problem, again, has been offense. Not just the quarterback position, but just the – there's just no semblance of a bread and butter on the offense. I think it's all fixable. I think whoever inherits this job has a roster that can contend immediately next year. I like to Summerall pick if it ends up that way. And that's the point I made. I actually thought Auburn should have moved earlier on, Hugh, if you're going to move. Just because I think this is the year there are good candidates out there. And don't forget all the people who were unemployed or in lackluster jobs who were proven from Franklin to Mullen to even Drude and Jimbo Fisher out there. I think Summerall's a good fit. He's hard-nosed. He grew up an Auburn fan. If that happens, I really like it a lot. And his roots are in Alabama as well. Sometimes, at the end of the day, don't underestimate that as well. Doug, your thoughts. Obviously, the game is next week. We're not sitting here and taking shots at Mercer and Eastern Illinois. They are what they are. But in this case, we know where we are in this state. Given the realities of everything, what do you anticipate one week and one night away on the plains for the Iron Bowl? That voodoo that I'm injured here does. Was it Nick's name? That place is haunted? Yeah. For Alabama, it certainly is. Just an incredible crowd. Auburn rises. And again, their defense is there. I mean, you go back and look at what Oklahoma just did against Alabama. By no means did they shut them down. Alabama's moving the ball. But the ability to create turnovers, create bad field position, that's what Auburn does well. And, you know, if you hang around like that, you've got a chance. Now, can they win under D.J. Durkin where they couldn't win before? I don't know, but we've seen stranger things happen. I think it's just going to be a well of a game and the fact that it's at night, it's going to be chilly. It just adds a little drama to it. What has been the biggest surprise, bad or good, to you and the SEC this year? I think a lot of people are surprised at South Carolina. Beamers had a tough road this year. They nearly beat Alabama. But, again, the Tide came back and won at the end. Texas having some tough losses. People have questioned Sarkeesian a little bit. Tennessee, a lot of their fans thought that they were going to compete for the playoff. They've got three losses in a tough game tomorrow. I haven't won in Gainesville in 22 years. But is it good or bad surprises in the SEC? What comes to mind to you? LSU. Yeah. To me, they've been the biggest face plant. We knew South Carolina lost a lot. We knew Texas had to kind of rebuild their offensive line and running game, and that would be suspect. We knew. I just felt LSU was overrated just because I didn't think they had enough pieces on offense. They put it all on Nussmeyer, and it just didn't work out. But the most pleasant surprises to me are, again, Mississippi State's got nothing to go for. But this is a team that slayed Arizona State. It's been in just about every game, and it's just the most improved. And then everybody, well, Vanderbilt's one-hit wonder. Well, now there are two-hit wonder, and it's all going to go away with Diego. I'm not so sure. I mean, Vanderbilt has money. And, you know, the administration's kind of held everything back for years, you know, just resources into the program, improving the program, the facilities. And now they're seeing, you know, hey, we're on a more equal footing than we've ever been before. I think Vanderbilt, listen, I'm not saying they're going to be Georgia, Alabama, LSU, or even Auburn, but I'm saying I think they're going to be kind of on the periphery of contention for the foreseeable future. Doug, obviously you're a veteran in this business. Back in the day when the industry had some ethics and what they call editors to run your story through, some folks may be shocked by that, but that was true back in the day. Your thoughts now about the industry as a whole, and the reason I bring that up, Doug, I'm sure you've seen the back and forth with DeBoer and all these, I don't know if these people are legit or they're in a mama's basement at the age of 45 trying to throw something out there and see what sticks. Your thoughts about the chatter of DeBoer after what would be his second season at Alabama, even looking at, amongst other places, Penn State. I have trouble believing. I haven't had anybody tell me that he's really unhappy. He knew what he was getting in. Good Lord, I think they are set up long term. You know, I think this year has been better than last year. Last year was transition. I think next year sets up even better. So I would be shocked. But this is what Jimmy Sexton does. Absolutely. Leverage is his middle name. Will. Yeah. So if Penn State calls and says we're interested, you know, he may say let's talk. And it may not necessarily be for Kalen DeBoer. That just may be, you know, well, he's talking to Sexton. They're interested in Alabama. So DeBoer may be interested, but maybe for another candidate. I mean, including, you know, he's got Lane Kiffin going to, I think he visited every school this, or his family visited every school in the SEC this week. And three schools in Portugal, I understand. Yeah. So I think that's just part of the game. But listen, the industry's changed a lot. You know, I remember when Charles Goldberg found out that Terry Bowden was going to be the next coach at Auburn, and he had it straight from Terry Bowden. We still had to get another source. Thank you. Because that's, yeah, that's just how newspapers used to operate. So it's a different environment. I'm not sure I could compete in it today because so much of it's based on... Who would want to. Yeah, yeah, it's just a different game. So I kind of feel for these people. But again, there's a DMZ between, to me, traditional media and then the fan sites that don't have the background. Right. Listen, we always enjoy talking with you. We may talk some basketball because Alabama and Auburn basketball is going to have a pretty special season themselves. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We always enjoy reconnecting with you and really appreciate your time to talk some SEC football today. Thanks, Brad. And I always love coming on here, and I'm so excited about basketball. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in, B.B. G.O. Southern Utah at UNA. Big day tomorrow. Last game ever, at least for UNA at Brawley. Going to be emotional, but Harold, the X's and O's. Southern Union has won five consecutive games. They've got the second leading rusher in FCS, a kid by the name of Joshua Dye, has run for 1,700 yards already. I think that's going to be too much for UNA. Southern Utah 31, UNA 14. Tennessee at Florida. I think Florida plays well in this game. We know the voodoo hacks that they've had over Tennessee. But I think DJ Lagway will make a mistake in the fourth quarter. That'd be the difference in breaking this 22-year-old streak. Tennessee 28, Florida 24. Mercer at Auburn. I think Deuce Knight plays pretty well. But even if he struggles, Auburn's going to run for 250 yards. Now, Mercer's a good team. But I think Auburn wins 35-14. Eastern Illinois at Alabama. The play-by-play announcer for Eastern Illinois, Mike Brad, was interviewed by Charlie Potter. He made the quote, It's hard to see any Eastern player that can give Alabama trouble in the traditional sense. That tells you all you need to know. Alabama 58. Eastern Illinois, 10. And the stupid underdog pig actually happens tonight. FSU is a five-and-a-half point favorite over North Carolina State. I think North Carolina State will upset the Seminoles in that game. With the pack going to sack. All right. I agree with you, BB, as far as UNA. It's one of those you hope you're wrong. The emotions are going to be sky high. A lot of folks in the past are going to be there. But once the emotions die down, the chalk talks. And I tell you what, Southern Utah, this running game they got is very impressive. As you mentioned, a young man by the name of Di. He is Dino-Mite. Got it 31-21. UNA on the short end of the stick there. Tennessee and Florida should be a fun game. It's on the turf down in Gator Country. History is on Florida's side. But still, again, the emotions die down at the end of the game. The cream rises. Big orange, 28-24 there. As far as Alabama and Eastern Illinois and Auburn and Mercer, if they don't both win by at least 25, they are not worthy. So we won't spend a lot of time with that. But the stupid underdog pick, Louisville and SMU. SMU is favored, but they got the Cardinals flying in that one. But a count of 31-28. There you have it. Your SUP, your stupid underdog pick. BB, pick 93-9 to score tomorrow. Check out Alabama and Eastern Illinois. You don't see many starting times at 1 and a pregame with a breakfast. But we got it all for you here on 93-9 tomorrow, BB. And I'm glad we've got it on 93-9 to score. Again, a lot of people don't know this. Alabama and Auburn will not be on TV. Now, you can stream it, but it will not be on TV. And you can hear that pregame beginning at 10 a.m. on 93-9 to score. Good luck to our area teams. Yep. Geraldine at Mars Hill Bible, Muscle Shoals in Mountain Brook, Aniston at Dessau. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate. And I hope that each and every one of the listeners have a great, safe football weekend. And join us again on Monday after that great weekend. That's going to take care of bits for now. On behalf of BB, Greg, James Blair, the entire crew here. Harold Buck, thank you so much for your time today. Let's do it again Monday, noon to two with the Boom Old Buck Show. Back here on Sports Radio 93-9 to score.
