It's time for the Valley's Exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the Tide, Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now, your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Good afternoon and welcome here to the Boomo Bugg Show. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us a free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Brett Beaird, welcome in. And there's only one thing to say today, and you know what it is. A big tip of the stats to all you veterans checking in now and every day that you allow us to join your huddle. Good afternoon, welcome in, and how are you? Happy Tuesday and happy Veterans Day. I've seen clips of about two or three parades. The one in Huntsville is going on as we speak. One in Athens. Delighted to see that. President Trump doing a special ceremony today. I couldn't agree with you more about the veterans provided the ultimate sacrifice for this country for you and I to talk sports. Las Vegas insider Bruce Marshall will preview the top games in college football this week. Thomas Ashworth of AL.com previews the second round of the high school playoffs for North Alabama teams. I'm always delighted to bring in Roger is here right now to recap a big win over LSU and Alabama men's and women's basketball have gotten off to an impressive start. And I roger that with Roger Hoover on the Crimson Tide Network. He covers it all, basketball, football, you name it. He always has the ball. Roger Hoover, welcome in. How are you? Boom, all bug. I'm doing really well on this Tuesday and you can add another sport to the rundown. Soccer, we're going to host the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday night, Alabama against Northwestern at women's soccer. So I'll be on the ESPN Plus call for that coming up this week in addition to all the fun, of course, with the football and the basketball. Roger scores as always. Roger, here's what Alabama fans want from you. An encore of this past weekend. Women winning basketball. Men knock off the number five team in their own backyard in the hardwoods. And Alabama football takes care of their own nemesis from Bontai Rouge. What do you do for an encore, Roger Hoover? I'll try to keep it going, especially against number two Purdue in men's basketball coming up on Thursday night in front of a sold-out Coleman Coliseum. I'm so glad a game like this gets to be on campus. And when Coleman is full, it's still my favorite basketball venue. So I'm really looking forward to that. And then this Oklahoma team is playing pretty well. You know, I picked up that win a couple weeks ago against Tennessee. They're coming off a bye week, whereas Alabama's coming off a physical game against LSU. We know John Matier can run with the football. We know he can be a little dangerous throwing the football. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens coming up for Alabama against Oklahoma coming up in football. But just more than anything, happy all these events are coming up at home. I think our fans are in for a great weekend in Tuscaloosa. Roger, when we talked to William Redfish Barger yesterday and recapped the LSU game, and he pointed out, and I looked at the stats this morning, the linebackers for this Alabama team. Deontay Lawson is looking more and more like himself every game. But Deontay Lawson, Justin Jefferson, and Hill Green had 21 tackles in that LSU game. Hill Green picked up the fumble, but those guys have overcome injuries and a little bit of a slow start. Justin Jefferson coming back from an injury, too. These inside linebackers are playing well right now. They certainly are, and especially I love the fight of Nakai Hill Green really punching at the football. I mean, that was absolutely textbook the way he jarred the football loose, got it back himself. Yonsei Pierre forcing another fumble in that game as well. This defense just plays with the right mentality, and that's something I know we weren't saying after week one against Florida State. But, man, ever since then, they have really turned it on and played with reckless abandonment and playing the physical, violent football that Alabama fans were used to under Coach Saban. It looks a little different with the alignment and everything now, but these guys are playing at a high level, and it's fun to see, especially against a value-good quarterback like Garrett Nussmeyer. I mean, forcing him to do a lot of things he didn't want to do, and as a result, he ends up getting taken out of the ballgame for LSU, Michael Van Buren closing out that game as quarterback. I think that's just a testament to Alabama's defense and keeping a team like LSU out of the end zone, which has been hard to do even for some of the teams that defeated LSU this year. I believe they had over 20 points against Texas A&M's good defense. So, for Alabama to force them to three field goals, I thought was a huge statement in this past win. Roger Hoover on the Crimson Tide Network, when you look at the stats, can you imagine putting these stats in front of Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings and some of the coaches of the past, and you say, you're going to be ranked number four in the country. You're near the top in the polls, but you're near the bottom rushing the football in the country. What does that say about this offense, and how good is Ty Simpson under pressure? Basically, so far, statistically anyway, he's having to figure it out as a chess master and with his arm and feet. Yeah, he's really good, and Alabama's just been very creative, I feel like, moving the chains and finding other ways than just maybe running the football in a traditional sense. You know, whether it's screen passes or even Jeremy Bernard running the Wildcats, there are different ways Alabama's able to pick up yardage, especially short yardage, I feel like, as opposed to only running the football. It is surprising that it's still taken the running game, I think, this long to get going, and really, Alabama hasn't needed to have some of those backbreaking long drives where you run the football a lot. I mean, they've done it against Missouri, Georgia. The running game has been there when Alabama's needed it. I think it continues to be something when Alabama is really up against it and needs to have those long drives and really get yards on the ground to work the clock. I think Alabama can do it, especially with the way Daniel Hill has emerged as one of the top backs for the Crimson Tide. You know, Kevin Riley early in the season, Jam coming back from injury, and then he still hasn't looked 100% from the concussion that he suffered a few weeks ago against Mizzou. Daniel Hill has really emerged and has been, to me, the go-to back for Alabama and also used in the passing game, too. So I think it's just something that, as Alabama continues playing this year, we may still see more of. And if the best days are ahead for the running game, that's a really good sign for the Crimson Tide, knowing how many tough regular season games you still have with Oklahoma, Auburn, and Eastern Illinois, and then potentially an SEC championship, potentially the college football playoff. And if Alabama gets the running game going then, we could be talking about a very special season for the Crimson Tide. Roger, one of the reasons they've won eight consecutive games is they're not beating themselves. Penalty's Alabama last week against LSU, only two of 25, 5.2 a game. That's tied for 31st nationally and fourth in the SEC. Turnover margin, Alabama is plus 10. That is seventh nationally and first in the SEC. One thing they've done really well offensively is time of possession. They're 18th and fourth. And I know, again, occasionally you're going to have a fumble, but interceptions only won, amazingly, through nine games. But, Roger, when Nick Saban, in 22 and 23, Alabama was about 109 in penalties. They're tied for 31st. That is a major improvement. It certainly is. I think it goes back to this team playing together so much in the spring. You know, nobody transferring off of this roster. So, I think that was a huge point of emphasis for this coaching staff in spring football. I think that's kind of the time you've worked on a lot of those discipline issues or try to clean up the ball starts and the holding on the offensive line. Try to stay away from defensive pass interference. Alabama's done a really good job at that. And sometimes that leads to a big play for the opponent. But, man, just knowing that you're going to play cleanly in the secondary I think is a huge benefit to this team. So, I think it all goes back to a very winning formula. You know, you're not committing that many penalties. You're not turning the ball over. And then your defense is creating a lot of turnovers, too. And like you mentioned, you add in the title possession as well. It's hard to beat this team for four quarters. And that's why I think outside of Florida State, you've seen Alabama win every single game. This coaching staff has the right formula in place for this group to be really successful. Roger Hoover, as always, very astute observations. And if you observe Brent Venable, as you know, he loves to keep the quarterback guessing. He loves to mix it up, different looks. He has a reputation when he's taking the snap, Ty Simpson being one of the more, what's the fancy word, cerebral guys out there. This is truly going to be a chess match between these two, is it not? I think it is because Oklahoma is so good in the secondary. They gave up a few big plays to Tennessee, but also they picked off Joey Aguilar twice in that ball game after getting that many interceptions as Tennessee's quarterback. So, it's going to be very important for Ty Simpson, who's been accurate with the football, only one interception this year. He's got to stay accurate. And Alabama can't afford, honestly, to have some of the miscues they had in the passing game this past week, where he either overthrew a ball or under-threw a ball. Alabama's got to find a way to get a little more on the same page. I'm not putting all that on Ty. I'm not putting all that on the wide receivers. It's just those guys have to be in concert coming up in a game like this, where you know you're going to have really difficult coverage to throw into. And then it all starts with pressure as well. Oklahoma, one of the strengths of their team is the defensive line. They have got some absolutely future NFL draft picks, high draft picks on that roster. And this might not be the week that we see Alabama's running game fully unleashed. It may take a few more weeks. But I think for the Crimson side, you've got to play disciplined football and taking care of the ball more than anything is going to be important against the Sooners. Roger, Rick Pitino gave the Alabama men's team one of the most ultimate compliments coming from him. He said, look, we just simply could not guard their guards off the dribble. Now, Rick Pitino doesn't have any problem telling people what's on his mind. That is an incredible compliment coming from him. He said, look, we've got a lot of people who have a lot of people who have a lot of people who have a lot of people who have a lot of people in their lives. And again, Purdue was number one. Now they're number two. And they've got Gonzaga, UNLV. They've got Illinois, a typical Nate Oates preseason gauntlet. And also the women with a big win over Alcorn State, 92-39. In essence, Cody, 17. The freshman phenom, Ace Austin, 16. Scott had 11. And again, it only gets tougher. But what a great start for both basketball teams. Yeah. Good to see their results against Alcorn State. Just kind of taking care of business at the time of the year where you're getting to play a home-off group. So it's important for this young group to learn how to play together. Essence, Cody, stepping up as a veteran. Ace Austin, impressing everybody as a freshman. Bit of a hiccup there with Roger on the sale there. So we'll see if we can get back with a man here in just a second. B.B., your thoughts while we're getting back on the air there about this matchup with Purdue. This is a measuring stick. No one's got a rougher part of the schedule than Alabama, would you agree, right here, right now? Well, they've got a huge – they're huge in the post, Harold. They've got great guards. They return three or four of their veterans from last year. They were incredible last year. No, that's going to be a real challenge for Nate and the guys Thursday night at 6 o'clock. See if Roger's back with us. Roger Hoover. Roger, are you there with us now? I think we may have lost Roger Hoover on the Crimson Tide Network. I'm amazed he's got time. Is there anybody who works harder in Tuscaloosa, maybe outside the coaching staffs, than Roger Hoover, certainly behind the microphone. He does it all. But, you know, this is going to be one of the more interesting weeks for Alabama. You're taking on Oklahoma in football. You're taking on Purdue in basketball. And here's something I think that people don't give enough credit, and that is to this administration. How many schools out there right now can say they have got a top-five football team and a top-eight basketball team ranked at the same time, B.B.? Very, very few. And Harold Roger also does a great job with Crimson Drive, the ones he's got on today. Keon Keeley and the one and only Jerry Duncan. Jerry talking about the tackle-eligible. Two very good interviews I know a lot of people would like to hear. You can find it on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. But Keon Keeley is coming into his own. And what can you say about Jerry Duncan? A lot. For folks who have been listening to Alabama football a long time, that's going to be an early Christmas present. And if you're brand new to fall on the Crimson Tide, tune in to Roger and see what we're talking about. In the meantime, it is playoff party time in our neck of the woods when it comes to high school football. We'll take you out to Priceville. And coach Seth Parker on deck on the Boomo Bugg Show. Just a few moments from now, we're going to be checking in with Coach Seth Parker from one of the wildest football games period you'll ever hear of. We won't spoil the details on that. But first, B.B., a lot of folks talk about this NIL spending. I thought this is very interesting here. These are the top NIL spenders in college football this season here. I'm going to give you a snowball of a question here. Who do you think is number one on the board as far as college football teams spending on NIL, Brett Beaird? Well, one team that is actually proud of it is Texas Tech. Yeah, but you know what? They're number two. They're friends from Texas, actually, number one. TT, Texas Tech is two. I'll be quick here. Ohio State is third. I don't think that's a surprise either. Oregon with all that Nike money from Phil Knight, they're number four. Texas A&M, five. You see a pattern there with those teams from Texas? There must be something dealing with oil. You think, B.B.? That would have the contribution to it, yes. What is Miami selling down there, B.B.? A lot of things. Yeah. On and off the field. Yeah, so they're tied at five. USC, a lot of folks I think are surprised by this because they're a private school, I believe, right? I mean, it's out in L.A. They got a lot of money out there. No surprise that Michigan is tied at number seven. But here's what's interesting, I think, as far as this list. Number nine on the list is Tennessee. And the surprise, and I don't think a lot of people, because remember, Tennessee kind of got the ball rolling with this thing. They're the ones who originally, when this whole phase of college football started, Tennessee was at the vanguard. They got the ball rolling with this. Now they're down to number nine. Who do you think is the number 10 team in the country when it comes to NIL spending, B.B.? Well, the way you phrased that, it sounds like it would be an SEC team. Yeah. Wouldn't it be in the state of Alabama? Yeah. Okay, go ahead. You would think it might be Alabama. I'm going to say Auburn. Yeah, that's right. The Auburn Tigers are number 10, which if you are an Auburn fan, that's why you're frustrated, because here's the bottom line. And spending all that money, where is the return on the investment, Brett Beaird? Well, we haven't seen it this week, Harold. That's the reason they have a vacancy as a head coach. I'll tell you what we have seen is a high school football playoff game that folks who are as old as I am and maybe even beyond have never seen anything like it. But our next guest has, and he's proud he saw it. He is Coach Seth Parker over at Priceville High. Coach, welcome in. How are you? Man, I'm doing great, guys. Thank you all so much for having me, and honored to be on your show. No, we're honored to have you, because, Coach, like we said, I thought I had seen everything at this age, and a lot of folks did. But where in the world, what was going through your mind, the players' mind, the fans of Priceville High, and for that matter, Guntersville High fans, for the folks who might have missed it, I won't spoil your thunder there, Coach. Talk to us about, basically, give or take the last two minutes of that game with Guntersville. Yeah, man, I'm glad you gave me a chance to talk about it, because it's about the only thing I've been able to think about for the last, I don't know, four or five days. So, yeah, I mean, we're sitting in a situation, we're down 21-7 against Guntersville, a really good team, and, you know, truthfully, we didn't play our best game, but, you know, a lot of that's them, and we had moved the ball well all night, but they kind of held us in the red zone, and we, you know, took a sack right before the half, and the clock ran out. So, 21-7, we felt like we'd left some points on the board, and we start calling our timeouts, I think they got the ball back with about six minutes left, ran it all the way down, and we call a timeout, a minute, or 2-17 on the clock, they get a third down, and they end up running the ball, and their quarterback happens to run into one of his own blockers and fumbles the ball. So, we had one timeout left, we fall on it, get it with a minute 55. So, minute 55, one timeout, we're able to put a great drive together, led by our senior quarterback, Sheldon Graham, and we score in about a minute, so there's about 55 seconds left, and we went for two right there, hoping to get the two kicking onside, score at the buzzer, kick a PAT, and walk off, but we were unsuccessful on a two-point try, so we line up for an onside kick, kick it. Caden Carty hits the kid that tries to field the ball, we fall on it, Colton Madewell falls on the ball, and so we get it right back, we're sitting there down eight with about 55 seconds left, and you know, on second down, we actually get sacked, so we used our last timeout, third and 20, with about 40 seconds on our own 40-yard line, and we're able to pick it up, and I think we picked it up, got 19 of the 20 yards, get to a fourth and one, pick it up, spike the ball. Next play, Sheldon Graham hits Uriah Burnham for 35 yards in the end zone for a touchdown, we run the ball in for two, go to overtime, get a stop, they missed their field goal, we line up, kick it, storm the field, and you know, as a coach, I'll be honest with you, it's the greatest moment of my life as a coach, so, man, we're still on cloud nine, and Priceville Bulldogs are still alive and well. That's an amazing story, I've heard quite a few people, and also, you've become a social media icon with your, how can I put this, excited interview after the game, that a lot of people have asked me, did you see Seth after the game in the interview, and I said yeah, he was a little bit excited. You were the offensive, the receiver coach, the offensive coordinator at Bob Jones High School, you were named in 2024, in February 2024, to be the head coach at Priceville, the first year you went two and eight, and I was reading some of your comments, it may have been the best thing that ever happened to us. This year now, a complete turnaround, seven and three, now eight and three, going to be hosting Moody, Seth, talk about the first year, and what you did to turn this team into a second round playoff team. Well, you know, like you said, I feel like, in a lot of ways, you know, going two and eight was one of the best things that happened to us, of course, at the time, you're miserable, and you hate that it happened, hate it for those seniors last year, but you know, in that two and eight, the story of it is, we lost two of those games the last 30 seconds, and so, you know, you win those two games, you're four and six, you're in the playoffs, and you know, you kind of got this misconception of how good of a team you are, and you know, had we won those games the last 30 seconds, again, it's a little bit of a farce, and so for us, I felt like, you know, we taped two and eight all over the place in our locker room, and you know, it motivated us all year, and we felt like we had a really, really, really long way to go, even though I knew as a coach, we really weren't that far, and so I think that hard work is really, we've really kind of overdone in a lot of ways the work, and that's a good thing, you know, but you know, you asked me, what have I done? You know, I just come to work every day, and I'm blessed to be around the best kids in America and the best staff in America, man, I got great guys around me, we have great kids, you know, I'm just a product of the environment, and I'm thankful to be the one that gets to be the head coach here and lead this group, but it's our kids, man, the work they've put in has been something that's so special to me, and you know, it's hard for me to talk about it at times, because it makes me emotional, you know, I love this sport, and I love this game, and this is my career that I've chosen, and I love it, I want to be successful, and these kids are, you know, for me personally, they've allowed me to be successful, and I tell them that every day, it's about what they're doing, it has nothing to do with me and these coaches, it's them, and you know, I'll tell you, we didn't, like I said, we went two and eight last year, we didn't add move-ins, we didn't change what we were doing, we just put our head down and went to work, and you know, I hope it's a lesson for these kids for the rest of their lives to see that when you, when things ain't going your way, don't complain, don't quit, you just put your head down, you got to work, and you change it, and these kids have, man, and they've left a legacy here, and I'm, like I said, I'm thankful to be their football coach. Coach Seth Parker in that game against the Gunnersville, I think illustrates that well, never give up the rope and hope as well. Coach, obviously, you mentioned hard work, it doesn't get any easier, it's nice to celebrate, but now you just move on up the, the ladder and the playoffs, your thoughts about the showdown with Moody. Yeah, I mean, they're a fantastic team, fantastic team, you know, I think they're definitely the best team we've seen all year up to this point, they're extremely talented at every position, very fast, very strong, very big, and you know, there's a reason they played in the state finals last year, there's a reason a lot of people picked them to be the state champion this year, and we certainly have our work cut out for us, but ultimately it's this, man, you know, anytime you play in the playoffs, especially after round one, you're playing a really good football team. Yeah. You know, the same thing's true for Moody, you know, they're playing a really good football team this week in Priceville, and you know, we're excited about the challenge, glad we got them at our place, and you know, like I said, you're in the, we're in the sweet 16 of 5A, there's 16 teams left, we're one of them, and we still got a chance at this thing, and you know, I told our kids, you know, everybody talks about how good Moody is, and that is very true, and everybody talks about at the beginning of the year, they're the ones to beat. Well, if that's true, what else would you rather have than at your place in round two? You're going to have to beat them at some point if you want to win a state championship, and might as well do it in round two, and so we're excited for the challenge, and I know we got our work cut out for us, but it's going to be a packed house and a great environment, and we're thrilled for it and ready to go. Listen, I knew you would turn the corner, so to speak, when you lost to Wes Morgan 8-7. I know they had some injuries in that game, but I've had several people tell me Priceville should have won the game, but again, kudos to Wes Morgan. I know they made some plays at the end, but you talked about Sheldon Graham. He's had a phenomenal year running and passing. You're running. You just run over people. Colton Madwell, 751 yards. Bronson Carroll, 672. Burnham, your receiver, I believe he caught 10 for 179 last week. Jack Eubanks, 61 tackles. One-year leaders on defense, and I say this to all the coaches. And if you win games on the line of scrimmage, and Cole Oliver and John Scott Chrisman and Sawyer Gillian and Ryder Doran, Cole Oliver, he goes both ways. You win the games at the line of scrimmage, but some of your kids are tough as nails, and they really have come through for you this year. Oh, there's no doubt. I mean, our kids, like you said, you described them so well, and I'd feel bad if I didn't call one out one more lineman. Trent Wood has just been fantastic for us this year, and then our sniffer, Julian Avalos, and tight end Braden Reamer, Jack Hamilton, Jacob Aldridge has been in there. And then we've got, you know, like you named our backs, and then we've also got Zavion Camel runs the ball really well. And we've got, like you said, we've got kids that are tough as nails, you know, they play, we have so many guys that play both ways, and, you know, like Sheldon Graham doesn't come off the field, Cole Oliver doesn't come off the field, Colton Madewell doesn't come off the field, Jack Eubanks doesn't come off the field. And, you know, they've played up until this point, you know, we've played 12 games, really 24 games. You know, if you think about it like that, you know, they've played, you know, the snaps on both sides of the ball for 12 games. I mean, that's a lot, and so for them to be where they are, man, they're warriors, they're winners, they're winners, they're competitors. And, yeah, you mentioned some guys, man, and like Sheldon Graham, you know, he's thrown for over 1,100 yards and ran for nearly 700. He's got, you know, over 20 total touchdowns. But what you left out is he also leads our team in tackles and has about 78 tackles and manages an exceptional player that deserves all the success coming his way. Same thing for guys like Cole Oliver and Jack Eubanks and, you know, even Bronson Carroll, you mentioned he got hurt in our first drive against Wes Morgan and missed about three games. Otherwise, I think he'd be well over 1,000 yards himself. So, man, we've got a lot of guys that have really come through, and, again, it goes back to the work that they've put in. It's all about the kids and the work they've put in, and like I said, I'm just thrilled to be their football coach, and I love these dudes, man. They're fun to coach, and I'm thankful we get another week right now to coach them. Well, listen, just for transparency's sake, I watched this young man grow up. I lived across the street from him in Madison. Robbie and Anita Parker are his parents. They're devout Christians. They're two of the most decent people I've ever met in my life. Robbie is, of course, the former baseball coach, Bob Jones, principal, superintendent, Seth, I could go on for hours, Whitesburg, Christian, Lindsey Lane. Love you, mother. She is an incredible human being. I knew you were going to be successful if you found the right niche. I can't remember the number of times I was mowing the grass and watched you and your dad play catch in the front yard. McKenna, quite frankly. Listen, much success. We've talked about you a lot during the course of the season. Good luck with Moody coming this weekend. I am proud of you and very, very happy for your success. Well, thank you so much, Brett. And, again, I remember growing up across the street from him fondly there on Betty Garrett. Absolutely. Yeah, I appreciate you mentioning my parents. My mother and my father are two most special people in my life outside my wife and my kids these days. And I've been raised by fantastic parents and Christians, God-loving people, and they are 100% the reason I am the man that I am. And I love them to death. Like I said, I appreciate you mentioning them. So, yeah, the fond memories there on Betty Garrett. But, yes, great talking to you. And thank you guys so much for having me on and giving the spotlight to pursue the Price for Bulldogs. And we hope we give you guys a reason to call me back shortly. We're going to hold you to it, Seth. Thanks so much and all the best this week against Moody, okay? Thank you guys so much. God bless you guys. Thank you, bud. Price for the Whitehead football coach. Seth Parker, his mom, and daddy did a doggone good job there, BB. No question. Now we've got time to go to Vegas and check in with the guru himself, Bruce Marshall, on deck. Stay with us. Move over to the late Middle-Ark Lumen, the original Globetrotter, and handing that baton off to Bruce Marshall. He is all over the place. When he's not busy there at Las Vegas Insider, BownSports.net, CBS Sportsline, the podcast, Rivers and Vegas Insider, winners and whiners. Bruce Marshall, welcome in. Last time, the Bay Area there in San Francisco. Hopefully, you survived that. Where are you today? Well, I'm back in Las Vegas, or Henderson, actually, at home. I do not cross the San Francisco city line when I go up there, though. I stay a little south of that. But I will tell you one funny thing. You should have been there. I took, I can't believe I got my wife to go with me to the Air Force San Jose State game and Saturday night, and you should have seen her trying to figure out what Air Force was doing. You know, she watches some football, but mostly pro football. But what Air Force does isn't the same, you know. And she's saying, what are they doing? She said, why don't they throw? And I said, this is just how they play. She said, I've never seen a team this boring. Just wait, this will work. She was incredulous. She couldn't, she could not understand why Air Force was doing what they were doing. It was very funny. I wish I would have recorded it. What you need to do, Bruce, is bring her to Tuscaloosa, and she's going to ask, why don't they run the ball? So you can balance things out. Talk to us about this team. Bruce, they blew up all the, as far as the dynamic, did they not? You're supposed to be able to have a balanced offense to be number four in the country, yet they just so heavily lean on the air game. Where do you start breaking it down? Is it one of those things where it's just too late in the season to try to fix it, just go, what got you to the party now? I think so. Although, you know, the board sort of leans to that anyway. I mean, they were balanced at Washington, but it wasn't quite, you know, you know, it was still mostly Penix when he was there. Same thing when he was at Fresno. But, you know, they, and at times this year, I mean, they have been able to run some, but I think they're just, you know, you can't, you're not going to be able to get through the playoffs, I don't think, when you're gaining 50, 60 yards rushing. You need a little bit more than that. And I think they could use Jim Miller a little bit more. I think he's, I think he can really soften things up. But at the same time, you know, LSU was sort of, you know, selling out to keep the running game, you know, to force, you know, Alabama to be one-dimensional, and they sort of did. There are better teams they're going to be facing down the road here than LSU. LSU's struggling right now, and they're lucky. LSU's offense is just such a mess right now. So I think you're right. I think they do have to balance this thing out a little bit more. But for the time being, they're at number four, and that's not a bad place to be. Oklahoma is one of those better teams that they've got 33 sacks on the season. Mason Thomas is just an absolute wrecker on that defensive front. Taylor Wine, I think John Mater, particularly coming off a bye week, is going to be feeling better, too. Alabama's going to have to be innovative to move the ball, and they certainly remember last year in Norman what that defense did to Jalen Milrow. Alabama's seven-point favorite. Did they win in cover? I think so, just because Oklahoma has been struggling, you know, offensively here, although they did, you know, put something a little bit together against Tennessee. Mater hasn't quite looked the same since the hand injury, but you're right. Maybe the extra week off will get him back to looking more dynamic like he was for a while in September there, before he got hurt. But again, now here we go. You brought it up. Last year, Brent Venables very much won this chess match against DeBoer last year. They really had Milrow flustered in that game. And they do. I have seen Oklahoma, and you mentioned it there, I mean, they collapse a pocket from the edge better than any team in the country, I think. And so they're coming after Simpson this week. My gut feel is that Oklahoma's offense is not going to do enough to get Oklahoma over the hump, and that Bama will survive. But I'm not that comfy with this pick. I'll give it 27-16 Bama, just because I think they'll find some ways to do it, and we'll end up about a margin like last week. But I'm a little queasy about this one, because Oklahoma, they can throw a little bit more in the mix here than LSU did last week. And this might not be easy. Thought is interesting, Eli Drinkwitz last week said, basically implied, the players did, that they were stealing their signs. And Ryan Grubbs already said, we're changing everything up this week. We're not going to let them steal our signs. So you don't see that very often, certainly this time of the year. So stay tuned for that. Bruce Marshall, always got it going there, Vegas Insider. Talk to us about your observations with a national perspective at the table about Auburn. Did Durkin change hats? Did he go from the defensive coordinator to the offensive coordinator and forget to coach defense over the weekend? Your thoughts about that game, and where's Auburn going from here? Well, that's a good question. And, yeah, I didn't see that sort of offense coming. I mean, they gained almost 600 yards. That's like three games worth for Auburn. And, you know, part of it, I wonder, you know, they've made the switch here to Daniels, a quarterback. And, by the way, I wonder where we'll see Jackson Arnold next year, you know, maybe in the Sun Belt somewhere. I mean, his career, his star has really fallen. But Daniels was not bad at Stanford last year. And I wonder if somewhere, you know, Hugh Freeze, now that he's just sitting on his rocking chair, he's thinking maybe I should have, you know, committed to Daniels a little bit sooner this year because they lost some games very close, and Arnold was just not getting it done. So, I mean, Durkin committed to him, and that was a very, I mean, that was quite an effort there that Auburn made last week. Where did they go? I am, you know, they're in the mix here. They're going to be shooting high for somebody. One name to keep in the mix, and I'm not sure if he'd go back into the SEC or not. I mean, he would if they offered him the job. Dan Mullen's going to move somewhere. Now, he's done well enough at UNLV, and he came here the same way Barry Odom did, thinking I'm going to rehab myself a year or two, then I'm going to get a power four job. And that's what happened with Odom to Purdue. Mullen is thinking the same thing. And not only is Mullen thinking the same thing, UNLV is thinking the same thing because they would like a buyout to help fund, you know, the athletic department a little bit and fund whatever they had to pay at Mullen. So, would he be in the mix for Auburn? He'll throw his name in the hat. But, you know, there's another name out there. The one thing I do know for sure is that Durkin will be one of the highest paid defensive coordinators in the country next year. Yeah. And he might even want to get, you know, he might throw his name. There's going to be a lot more jobs opening up. So, he, you know, he could certainly fit into one of those. And he's sort of using this as an audition for himself. Remember, he didn't do that bad at Maryland when he was the coach there a few years back. So, but we're Auburn. You know, they're right in the mix. I mean, it's not just Florida and LSU and Arkansas looking for coaches. It's Auburn. And who knows if, by the way, I'm still, I'm sticking by this. I, my gut feel is Shane Beamer is going to go up to Virginia Tech and South Carolina is going to open up too. So, we aren't done, we aren't close to being done in the USL and the SEC. Texas and Georgia, probably the marquee game in the SEC. I thought Georgia played their most complete game last week. They ran for over 300 yards against Mississippi State. Jeff Lebby's done a really good job with them, but they may be a little bit on fumes at the end of the year. Texas leads the SEC in rush defense with 78 yards. And they're not going to hold Georgia to 78. You know, this would be the glamour bowl between Arch and Gunnar Stockton, who has really played well. Georgia, to me, has elevated their game a little bit. And Georgia has won the last two games at the line of scrimmage. This is going to be another line of scrimmage game. Georgia is a six-point favorite. Did they win and cover? I think they win, and I think they got a chance to cover. So, I'd probably lean that way. You know, my score I put on this was 24-16. It's not much of a recommendation, but a little bit for Georgia. You're right. They did beat them twice last year. You know, they jumped on Texas. That was the game Arch played last year, that game in Austin, you know, in mid-October last year. And so, he played a lot in that game. And then in the SEC title game, that's the game that Carson Beck got hurt, and Stockton came in and bailed out to Georgia. So, that's the first time we really saw him. I'm more, like you, I'm more impressed the more I see about Georgia here, and the more I see Stockton. I've mentioned this before. He's got a lot of Stetson Bennett in him. He's not that pro-style quarterback we've seen, you know, throughout the years like Beckton and others in Stafford at Georgia. He's more Bennett-type, but that can work for Georgia. And they, you know, listen, you know, back to the Bama game, they could have won that game. I mean, they had that one, I mean, they had that turnover deep, and it was a really gutty comeback there. So, I'm just not comfortable enough with Texas. The offense has been too in and out. Arch has looked a little bit better. I guess he's going to be okay to go here this week. But I am going to give Georgia a light vote. I think, you know, they're at five, and, you know, they're knocking on the door here. And it looks like Alabama and A&M are going to be in the title game probably. But Georgia's going to be somewhere in the playoff mix. Bruce, you know we can't let you go without Bruce Marshall's under the radar game this week. How about this one? I mean, I saw Air Force last week. For a better or worse. And your wife, too. My wife, too. Now, how about this one? Now, who would schedule this? They're up at UConn this week. And, by the way, UConn's quarterback, just take a look at Joe Fagnano, what he's done this year. He's done 25 TD passes and zero picks. Wow. In mid-November. That is not too bad. And Jim Moore's got these guys going to another minor ball, so good for him. But Air Force won last week. Zarka, the quarterback, it's funny, we were sitting right by his family there. A bunch of Air Force people traveled to the games. They swear he can throw the ball. He threw for over 6,000 yards in high school. They said he's from Colorado and he just always wanted to play for Air Force. Last year, down the stretch, Air Force won its last four games. They are in position to do that again this year. That would get them bowl eligible. And before they beat San Jose by 10 last week, they had four straight games decided by three points exactly. So you're giving them a little over a touchdown here. It's a tough schedule thing for UConn. And Wallen went over Duke, which was a good win last week. But now you throw Air Force in there in November with a short, I mean, only one week to prepare for that. It's a tough task. I'm going to take Air Force plus 7.5 up at UConn. Let me ask you about Notre Dame and Pitt. In fact, College Game Day is going to be in Pitt. Top 25 game. Jeremiah Love's been running wild. Notre Dame now is riding a seven-game winning streak. But Pitt's defense is pretty good. Their rush defense only giving up 2.5 yards of carry. They've got three good linebackers in Loveless, Biles, and Lewis. The quarterbacks would be marquee Mason Heintzel taking over for Holstein. And then C.J. Carr's played well all year. Notre Dame's a 10-and-a-point favorite. Does Notre Dame win but not cover? Probably win, but I'm not even sure about that. I'm glad you brought this game up, Brad. I think this is actually the most interesting game of the week. And Pitt is actually one of the most – they're going to be involved in this thing the last three games of the season. So Notre Dame here, and then Georgia Tech in Miami. All these games have an impact on potentially in the playoff. And that includes Pitt, which could get into the ACC title game if they win those last two. And you mentioned Heintzel. As soon as he came in, they started to win. I mean, and he made – you know, Holstein wasn't all that bad, but Heintzel is special. And I wonder if Narduzzi is thinking maybe they should have put him in the Louisville game as one they should have won. And they probably should have beat West Virginia, too. And that's the one that really sticks in Pitt's call. But Heintzel is beyond – I've watched him. He doesn't look like a freshman. I mean, his command, his confidence. I mean, he throws all sorts of passes around the field. Narduzzi's been a good underdog throughout his career. I'm a little leery to go against Notre Dame because I have seen them really rough up some teams. But I don't think they're going to rough these guys up. They will probably win, but it will be close. I'm going to take Pitt plus the points, 27-24 Notre Dame. I'm all on Pitt this week. Really watch these guys. I think they – this might end up being the best ACC team this year. We'll find out the next three weeks for sure. But this week, I'm glad that everybody's going to be looking at Pitt because they're a good team to watch now. You're exactly right. And I also advocate everybody to watch and listen to Bruce Marshall, still the gold standard. Basketball has gotten started, college, the NBA, Alabama, and Purdue Thursday night. U.S. Senator Katie Britt is weighing in on the deal that was reached between Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Senate in order to end the government shutdown. Britt spoke at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon saying that a vote will likely be held in December on extending the subsidies provided for Obamacare. Britt says that continuing the subsidies would not address the problems and issues that have been pervasive within the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. Britt listed several problems within Obamacare saying there's no income cap on those who receive subsidies. There's extensive fraud within the system and she also says Obamacare does not incorporate the Hyde Amendment regarding abortion. Britt says it will be interesting to see if the Democrats want to address these issues before the vote is taken. I'll be back with more Alabama stories after this. Now, I've just got to preface it by saying it has something to do with maybe Bruce Pearl said, I told you so. Would you agree? USC star Chad Baker-Mazzara. Most of our listeners remember Chad Baker-Mazzara is a very talented player. Played for Auburn for a couple of years, but transferred to USC. Eric Musselman is there. Eric Musselman was the men's basketball coach at Arkansas two years ago. Well, earlier today, he stormed, and I'm literally reading the tweet verbatim, stormed into Musselman's office demanding more NIL guarantees and lunged at Musselman when asked to leave. Thus, Chad Baker-Mazzara has been suspended indefinitely following a physical altercation with head coach Eric Musselman and any Auburn basketball fan listening to this saying, yeah, I saw that coming. I remember he was on the plane last year before they ever tipped off the season. They got into it on a team flight. Gee whiz, somehow, I'm not all that shocked, BB. We are shocked with some of the outcomes as far as the opening week of high school playoff action. Thomas Ashworth on that and more. He's busy. Got it all covered there at AL.com. Thomas, welcome in. Have you ever stormed into your boss's office and demanded more NIL money? How are you? Yeah, you can ask Ben and Thomas about that on Monday. How'd that go, Thomas? We'll ask Ben next time we get him on board. But in the meantime, talking about a wild scene, that had to be wild in the coach's office. But we had Coach Seth Parker on earlier. Have you ever seen a wilder, I don't care what game, especially a playoff game in Priceville and Guntersville at the end? Yeah, I mean, it seems like almost a continuation of just like the biggest turnaround in this day or one of them. I mean, this is a team that went 2-8 last year. They didn't have any transfers. They didn't have anybody new come in. It was pretty much the same team. And now they're 8-2, and they went 8-2 the regular season. Just a wild two-minute comeback victory. They were down 21-7 with 153 left. And then we're able to score, get an outside kick, special teams, and then got another touchdown and then forced overtime and kicked the game-winning field goal. I mean, just a ridiculous turnaround, especially at Guntersville. Really tough place to win. Really, really great atmosphere at Guntersville. So that's tough enough by itself. But, yeah, they get a really tough test, obviously, against arguably the most talented team in 5A or the state. Moody is coming to town. But even besides that, just a huge win on a huge season for Seth Parker. I mean, I know he's proud of those guys. You just dropped your top five games in North Alabama on Friday night, and one of them is going to be Good Hope, 9-2 at West Morgan, 11-0. We've talked with you a lot about West Morgan and also Caleb Suggs. The interesting thing here is it's not Cherokee County, who has put West Morgan out of the playoffs for the last three years. Good Hope beat Cherokee County last week, 28-26. And, Thomas, West Morgan now, I believe it's 34 consecutive regular season wins. Macquarie Johnson is just incredible, ran a punt back last week. Titan Parklow is now healthy at quarterback. And just being Johnson at linebacker, go on and on. Good Hope is good. Parker Johnson, but good hope at West Morgan. West Morgan, a lot of people have been saying, including Caleb Suggs with the Detainter Daily, if they get past Cherokee County, who they don't have to face this year, I think West Morgan wins 4-A. We'll see, but quite a battle at Rebel Stadium in Trinity Friday night. Yeah, it's going to be for sure. And, I mean, this is a Cherokee County team that they beat that has been in three straight appearances in the 4-A state championship game. So, obviously, a lot of pedigree. And, you know, to be able to knock them out is a really tough task just because they have so many players coming in. And even, you know, it's obviously a different team than last year. But that's a really good Cherokee County team that returned a lot of players from that last year's state championship team that got blown out by Jackson, which was, you know, Jackson's Jackson. But you're talking about, you know, this one coming up. You're right. It's two pretty good teams. I mean, good hope is – I don't want to say turnaround just because they had a 10-2 year last year, but, I mean, they had a 3-7 year before. So, kind of the same story as Priceville, almost, of, you know, a really good turnaround for that program. But, yeah, 9-2 this year and a really good win over Cherokee County. They lost by seven to Fairview to end the season. That's a really good Fairview team as well. So, I mean, this is a pretty good, good hope team coming to Trinity. But, I mean, I still think this West Morgan team is a team to beat. I think that they'll – you know, I have them winning. I think that Macari Johnson is probably the best back in 4A in North Alabama. Just ridiculous numbers every single week. They have their quarterback back. They have a lot of pieces on defense. I mean, this is just a really good team you can point at. It's just probably one of the most complete teams in 4A. But, I mean, it's between them, I think, and Anniston for the 4A spot if Anniston can get back to Madison Academy. So, we'll see what happens. But 4A North should be really fun down the stretch. Thomas Ashworth, AL.com. You mentioned it. So, since you invoked their names, let's talk a little more in depth about that. Madison Academy, that years ago, everybody wouldn't have them as their homecoming opponent. That's been a long time. They have now built themselves into a perennial powerhouse. And they're taking on – they're 9-2. They know how to win. Anniston obviously does, too, as you mentioned. They've still got a goose egg in the L column, 11-0. Your thoughts about the Mustangs on the road, the long road to Anniston? Yeah, and I used to cover Anniston, my old job. And they're just a really good program with a really good coach. Rico Jackson does a really good job there. And Rico White was the coach there in their last undefeated regular season. Now he's in Mae Jemison. But Rico does a really good job there. They have a really, really good, talented team over at Anniston. I mean, they just are loaded at pretty much every spot. They have Division I players across the board. And, I mean, this Madison Academy team is a really good team, but they're really young as well. So, I mean, credit to Godspeed. I mean, this team, you know, they won a playoff game last year against Hook's Bluff. But this year they've, you know, been able to build on that. They're 9-2 this year. Losses to a really, really good Marsh Hills team and a really, really good Plainview team. So, two really – I don't want to say good losses. Those are two pretty good teams they lost to. But, no, I mean, this is an excellent Madison Academy team. Charleston Owens has had a really good year for them. Daylon Scott has been – and Danny McCauley have been really good at them at running back. So, I mean, they're just really good across the board. I think this will be probably one of the more fun matchups in 4A. Because both of these teams are really explosive and can do a lot on offense. But, I mean, they have some really good pieces on defense, too. So, I really have no clue what to think about this one. This is going to be a really fun one to watch. Let me ask you about a team that we saw twice last year, and I believe you saw the Hartzell game. Muscle Shoals, Osteen, Parker. Parker put Muscle Shoals out last year 34-10 in the quarterfinals. Parker's not as good this year. Now, they're still very good, but I don't think they're as good as last year. And Muscle Shoals is better than last year. They beat Mae Jemison. I saw that game last Friday – Friday 31-10 – I'm sorry, Thursday – 31-12. Davian Rill scored twice. Kate Clemons, very solid quarterback. But the Muscle Shoals defensive front with Maury Johnson and friends are just terrifying, too, offensive linemen. So, this is going to be a fun game. I think this is going to be a different verdict, though, this year with Muscle Shoals winning. Classic game in town. Parker coming. Is it time for Muscle Shoals in the rematch? Yeah. I mean, like you said, this is a totally different Parker team without Naeem Offord. He's now at Oregon. And, you know, when you lose a five-star, it's always tough. But their best player is probably Bonnie Cleveland. He's a Texas commit defensive line. But, I mean, like you said, you look at this Muscle Shoals team, and you don't really see a weakness. I mean, to be honest with you, I mean, their quarterback is really good. They have really good playmakers. They're running back and wide receiver. Their defensive line is one of the best. Their secondary is loaded. I mean, they're just loaded across the board. And it looks like they've gotten better almost as the season's gone. And, obviously, I mean, that's part of their schedule. Their schedule down the stretch was much, much tougher than, you know, the beginning games, aside from a Gadsden City win. But, I mean, this is a team that's gotten better, it seems like, as the year has gone on. But, like you said, Parker's a totally different team. I do like Muscle Shoals in this one. I don't know if Parker is, you know, will see a more complete team in the playoffs. Oxford is, you know, they had a big win over Oxford, but that's a completely different Oxford team. But I think this Muscle Shoals team has a chance. I really do. But, I mean, this Parker team all has some pieces. They really do. So, I mean, I think it'll be a defensive battle. I think that there's going to be a lot of really good pieces on both sides on defense. We'll dive deeper into that matchup tomorrow with Muscle Shoals head coach Scott Bayesian. In the meantime, Morris Hill sitting perfect right now, 11-0. In playoff talk, it's not the longest trip of the world, down to Winfield, 9-2. Your thoughts about that matchup? Yeah, I really think that Morris Hill is probably one of the most talented teams in the state, regardless of classification. I mean, this is a, you know, you've got Hudson Higgins going to UAB, you've got Jackson Penn, guys like that. And, you know, they have a couple of more Division I commits. McIntyre is another guy at tight end who's a powerful prospect. I mean, they have so many guys just across the board who are legit Division I talents. And, I mean, you look at the other three A's, and, I mean, they may have one guy, two guys, three guys if they're lucky that are going to play legit Division I ball. But, I mean, they have guys getting offers from North Alabama or, you know, Troy or whatever. It seems like every day. I mean, that team might be better than last year's team. It probably is. I mean, they haven't just beaten opponents, but they've absolutely just destroyed opponents. I think that their average score of games is like 53 to 11 or something like that. Jeez. Just killing people. I mean, it's just ridiculous. But, I mean, like you said, Winfield has had a good season. They're 9-2 on the year. A nice win over a Glencoe team that, you know, had some success this year. I think Glencoe made the playoffs for the first time in, like, 10 years. So, a good win for them in the first round. But, it's a tough test against any time you play Marcel. But, I mean, I hate looking ahead, but if they play Piedmont or Pfeiffer, whoever it is, that's going to be a really fun one as well. But, I mean, it'll be a really good test for Winfield for sure. You had an article early this year, and we talked about it at length, about commitment or the like thereof. As far as some Huntsville City schools, another year, another first-round shutout for Region 4 in Class 7A. And these teams were playing very good teams. Spartan James Clemens, I believe, had the closest game. Florence lost to Baker 38-14. Austin lost 45-7. It has been the last time any team in Region 4 won a playoff game was 2019 when James Clemens beat Vestavia Hills and Florence beat Mountain Brook 24-21. 24 consecutive playoff losses. I hope that changes somewhere down the road. I do, too, and I think that if I had to pick a team that's going to do it, I think it's going to be James Clemens. I mean, I think that team has some sparks. I mean, they had kind of a small senior class, if you're talking about 7A, but I think that they have some really good pieces moving forward. They return both their running backs. I think they have a really good chance to get a win next year, but Sparkman obviously has some pieces. And, you know, any time that you make the trip down to Mobile, it's going to be tough, and that's what Austin and Florence had to do. Austin woke up at, like, I think, 7.30 in the morning, made the trip down there and played. I mean, that's just a ridiculous thing you have to do, driving down to Mobile from the Huntsville area. But, I mean, I do think that it will come eventually. I hope that, you know, they're starting to understand that it doesn't just take good coaches. I think that, you know, I hope that any administration understands that it doesn't just take, you know, it takes investment. And it takes a lot more than just, you know, having good seasons. You've got to have investment. That's what a lot of these coaches said is, you know, that you can have really good academics. And that's what, you know, Madison City and Austin and Florence, you know, these areas, these schools have really good academics. It's just a matter of, you know, investing the proper time into both. And I hope that they can understand that moving forward just because I want some good football up in here. But, you know, there's some good 6A teams and 4A teams as well. But, you know, those 7A teams are itching for a win. It's just clear. And hopefully the administration can understand the investment it has to make. Absolutely. Well, listen, the great stuff. Again, you've got the top five teams in North Alabama. That dropped about an hour or so ago. You can be covering it pre-game, post-game. You've got the game of the week. Where can we get online to get all the good stuff? Yeah, we've got a lot going. And the basketball season is ramping up, too. Oh, yeah. One of the best seasons coming up up here in North Alabama. So, a lot of stuff coming on AL.com. And championships are to follow soon, which is weird to talk about the end of football season. But here we are. Thomas, stay safe out there and as warm as you can. I think the weather is going to cooperate by the time we get rolling into Friday night. So, let's hope the best on that. In the meantime, again, thanks so much for your time today. Yes, sir. Appreciate you guys. Thank you, bud. Thomas Ashworth's got it all covered there at AL.com. Coming up, boy, it's hard to believe. A few grains of sand left in the regular season across the board in the SEC. Joe Cox sitting at the table next. Stay with us. Craving authentic Mexican flavor? Hello again, everybody. I'm Roger Hoover. On Tuesday's edition of Crimson Drive, driven by NASCAR, we'll be joined by Alabama defensive end, Keon Keeley. Yeah, I mean, the defensive line is, I might be biased, but I think it's one of the most, if not the most, close-knit group on our team. I mean, that might be my biased opinion. I'm the D lineman. But I think it's just a big brotherhood in there, you know, but also a big thing is holding each other accountable. I think the room is extremely, you know, big on accountability. And, you know, if you got this gap, you got to keep that gap. And if you got that gap, you got to keep that gap. You know, you can't have the mindset of, hey, I have the C gap, but I know the running back's going to cut back to the B gap. So, I'm just going to say whatever to my job and get the B gap. No, because now you go to the B gap, now that dude bounces out, he's gone. Or now you go to the B gap, but your teammates also in the B gap. I'll have more in a moment. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. The Score. Welcome back in. He is Joe Cox, and he is busy as a columnist there at Saturday Down South. His book is called A Fine Team Man. Joe Cox, welcome in. How are you, and have you thawed out, or has it been as cold where you are as where we are? It's been cold. Today, I've been running my daughter around. She's 16, and she was job shadowing. So, off of half a day, she could tell me that work is fairly tedious and fairly boring, and I could have saved her half a day and just told her that myself. But you know how it is. Yep. Joe, we're not messing with you. If you're with a 16-year-old daughter, you're tougher than any of us. I can tell you. Maybe we can give you a little break there, but let's talk a little bit about football. Joe, you're in your Kentucky. Let's be fair. Has Mark Stoops, has he gone shopping for a new house? At one time, they had the Purcell sign up and had two men in a truck on speed dial up there. Is he safe and secure now? I wouldn't go quite that far, but. Oh, okay. You know, I think things are looking a little better, certainly, than they were. Kentucky looked like they were headed nowhere but the cellar, but two league wins in a row. I have things a little more rosy, but I will say this for anybody so inclined to look for a possible wild upset tip. Kentucky better be very careful this Saturday. You win three games and you say, oh, we're just playing a little FCS team. Well, Tennessee Tech didn't get to be 10-0 by stepping through these games blindfolded. And with Kentucky's style of play, I think there's a very good chance that Tennessee Tech will keep this game close for most of the day. And if Kentucky doesn't show up ready to play, you know, everything that you did over the last two weeks, you can erase in 60 minutes. That is exactly right. In fact, Joe, I think they've won 15 games in a row in their 10-0 this year for an FCS team. That is amazing. Texas and Georgia, a big game for both teams. I thought Georgia had its most complete performance. And again, it was against Mississippi State. They ran for over 300 yards. Georgia's getting better. They're becoming more dominant. And again, they're not 22 and 23, but they're looking better. Texas certainly needs a win. Georgia's won this game, the last two games of the line of scrimmage. We'll hear a lot about Arch and Gunnar Stockton itself. Joe, a pretty good matchup between the Hedges. It really is. Should be a good one. And I've been critical of Georgia myself for their failure to kind of put games away. But they, yeah, I'm with you. They did about as well as you could do a week ago. You know, the X factor here, I guess for Georgia, I mean, you want to win this game, but this really isn't a make-or-break game. Texas is one of those two-loss teams that really doesn't want a third loss because that CFP field is filling up in a hurry. And a third loss, I won't say it automatically disqualifies you, but, boy, it digs a deep hole. So maybe they've got a little more incentive here, but Georgia is the team that comes in with all the momentum. You only get the mulligans in golf, not in football, right? Let's talk a little bit more about the showdown under the lights in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Oklahoma. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure it out. Brent Venable is a pretty sharp dude when it comes to mixing things up on defense. Ty Simpson's got his work cut out to try to figure out this. It's Oklahoma defense himself, and he's calling the signals there. Alabama, I think, opened over the summer at 14. Vegas then said, no, let's make it to seven. Earlier this week, they showed it down to six and a half, and I looked a moment ago. It's now down to six. Is Alabama going to be favored by the time Saturday winds up here? Joe, your thoughts about Bama and Oklahoma? You know, a lot of the same things we just said would apply to this game. Of course, Alabama with one loss, and you talk about a mulligan. There's one that they'd love to get, but Oklahoma with two. So, they're one of those teams that's kind of on the outside, peering in. But, boy, their life would look a lot better if they could pull this upset off. The question for me, I think, largely is John Mateer, who started out just red hot. I think it was a top Heisman candidate, and then the injury happened. They're just kind of struggling through at this point on that side of the ball. If he's got another big game in him, this would be an interesting spot to pull it out. But Alabama, the just steady progress the defense has made over where they were a season ago, I think is kind of one of the underrated stories of this season. And, you know, if I had to pick, I'd expect that to hold up and the tide to take care of business. But, you know, the offense is where everybody's going to get excited, and Ty Simpson's a Heisman candidate and so on and so forth. But the defense is probably really the story for this Alabama team. Yeah. Joe, the Auburn-Vaney game last week was, number one, very entertaining. Vaney wins in overtime after coming back from 17-3. Dev said, Auburn, what an indictment on Hugh Freeze. 500 yards, score 38 points. The backup quarterback looks like, you know, where in the world was he in the entire season? But Vaney did Vaney things with Pavia. They just slowly got back in the game. Got control of it and then won it. And overtime, I wondered if they should have kicked the field goal and should have gone for fourth down and got stuffed. Vaney has got Kentucky and Tennessee to go two more games. They're still got a pulse for the playoffs. But Auburn sure looked a lot better with Hugh Freeze not on the sideline. Yeah, absolutely. I've said all year that I'm not a big guy on the midseason coach firing. Well, this might be the other side of it. Maybe you say we get a couple of games to see exactly how much the old regime was holding us back. Well, based on one game, on the offensive side of the ball, I think you could certainly say the regime was holding back plenty. Because, yeah, it's a situation where if you'd just gone with Ashton Daniels from early in the season and gone with this kind of philosophy, it wouldn't be four and six. It'd be at least six and four and maybe a little better than that heading down the stretch. Joe, great stuff, as always. I know you predict the season. In Texas A&M, you've got 12. I know, Joe, Alabama fans don't want to hear this or Ole Miss or Georgia, but I think the Aggies may be the best team in the SEC. I know Missouri's faded a little bit with injuries, but they looked awfully good beating Missouri on the road. Joe, you've got this article, Watchability, later in the week, but where can we get online to get all the great stuff? Check it out at Saturday Down South. We'll be coming down the stretch with everybody else and keeping up with all the games and then trying to see the big picture. And, again, there are four teams that are real happy with where they're at. Will there be a fifth one that gets in? That's what I think we're all going to be watching for. But those four have got some big games coming up still. It'll be an interesting last couple weeks. And an interesting afternoon with your 16-year-old daughter up there. Joel, good luck, and thanks so much for your time today, buddy. Thank you, gentlemen. Y'all take care. Joe Cox. Obviously, she wasn't listening, right? Joe Cox visited there at Saturday Down South. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. He is one of the best when it comes to covering college football from the A to the P, Atlantic to the Pacific. Matt Merchel, busy there with the Orlando Center. And Matt, welcome in. How are you? How are you guys doing today? Hey, we're doing all right. Matt, it's one of the greatest sports movies of all time, and I'm sure I may get an argument about this, but the movie Hoosiers about Indiana basketball. Matt, is Indiana football writing their own Hollywood script after that finish at Penn State? Yeah, I mean, they did. That was an amazing finish to that game. Indiana found a way to win when they needed to. And it just goes to show you that, you know, Kirk Signetti is why he's such an elite, you know, coach in the sense that, you know, people want him. You know, that ADs are interested in him. He's been sought after by so many schools because he finds a way to win these games. So, they're going to be, not every game is going to be a 20-point blowout. And so, you know, they need a challenge sometimes, and I think Indiana got it this weekend. I think they found a way to win it. I thought Fernando Mendoza found a way to step up and elevate his game, and now he puts himself squarely in the Heisman running. Not that he wasn't, but puts himself back in there, and now Indiana finds itself, you know, squarely in the mix for the Big Ten title and for a chance for another appearance in the college football playoff. Matt, correct us if you're wrong. You're a native of the state of Indiana. What are you hearing back home? Because it's kind of crazy down here when Alabama and Auburn basketball does well. It's like, wow, this is bonus up there. Basketball has always been king. What are you hearing from your Indiana football fans up there? Well, yeah, I mean, exactly. And for decades, you know, Indiana football was an afterthought. You know, I mean, it was considered a joke, kind of, you know, and basketball, all the fans cared about was when basketball season started. Well, that's changed now. And, you know, now you see not just the success on the field, but you're seeing Indiana committing financially to this idea. You know, they're willing to put the money where their mouth is. And you talk about, we saw this about a month ago when Kirk Signetti was signed to an extension, a contract extension, a big multi-million dollar contract extension. They're serious about giving him the resources to go out there and have success in the football program. And that's huge. And, again, that gets people back to where they want to get excited about football. They're excited about how things go. And, you know, now it's can you capitalize on this. You know, now, as I was telling someone earlier today, you don't want to see Indiana have a slip-up, you know, in the last couple weeks. You want to see him finish strong and then find a way to get into the Big Ten title game, maybe possibly win that, and then get to the college football playoff and make a deeper run than they did last year. Man, you know, the Big 12, well, and I know people snicker every time you mention Texas Tech and their $25 million NIL roster. But BYU was a snickering after they got beat 29-7 last week. Joel McGuire is a good coach, no question, and he's got a lot of talent. But they just smothered a very good BYU team, Bear Backemeyer, their freshman quarterback, had really played well. But Texas Tech's running backs, Cameron Dickey and Jacoby Williams ran for nearly 200 yards. I think people better look at Texas Tech as far as being a formidable opponent in the CFE if this continues. Oh, very much so. I think you could argue that they're probably one of the top five teams in the country right now. I mean, I know they're not ranked in that spot. But, you know, you think about what they've been able to do. Yeah, you say what you will. I mean, you know, yes, they've spent a lot of money to build that roster. They've spent over $7 million, reportedly, to put together their defensive line. It's one of the best in the country. And, you know, they're having success. You know, UCF, for instance, who I cover down here, you know, is going to go play Texas Tech this weekend. You know, Scott Frost, the UCF coach, said it best. He said, listen, don't hate those. He said, don't hate the player, hate the game. You know what I mean? Like, if that's the way college football is turning into, you can't be angry at Joey McGuire for what's happening. You've got to be angry at the sport itself and why the money is being, how there's no guardrails at times. So, it's going to be interesting. But I think Texas Tech is definitely a force to watch out for and a team that basically, you know, could make a serious run in the college football playoff mix. You're a football fan. You hope your team can grow some oil wells in the backyard sometime soon. Alabama will be facing one of those teams. That makes a lot of money off that liquid gold. That's Oklahoma. Matt, what do you see under the lights in the fight in Tuscaloosa this weekend? Yeah, I still think Alabama's playing really good football. I think that, you know, they've got an opportunity to go in there and make their case. You know, I mean, Oklahoma, if they want to build up on their reputation in the SEC, since coming over to the SEC, they're going to have to win games like this. But I think Alabama still has the pieces together to make that run. So, I mean, again, you know, if you're in the SEC, you don't want to get to a point where you see all your best teams get knocked out, you know, or get knocked down over the next three weeks. You want to see some of these teams step up and make some plays. I think Alabama's one of those teams that's going to make a big push. And I'm not too concerned about them in Oklahoma. Man, I know people get tired of hearing about him, but when he continues to play well, he's a Heisman candidate. And Vanderbilt is a possible, looking from the outside in right now, Pavia, they got behind 17-3. Pavia has a combined 489 yards against a very good Auburn defense. Auburn found the pulse just coincidentally after Hugh Freeze was fired. But he's just amazing, man, at how he brings this team back constantly. He's so tough. He passes for 377, runs for another 112. They end up winning in overtime when the defense, Ashton Daniels, overshot the receiver. I know people get tired of hearing him, but he's quite a player. Well, I mean, he's the guy that, you know, we talk about players who are kind of heartbeats over the team. He's kind of that guy, you know, where I think that, you know, when you have a guy like that who steps up and is willing to lay it all on the line, you know, out in the field, it's easy. You know, your teammates really kind of respond to that. You know, they want to follow you out there. They want to give a little extra effort. They want to make sure things go well. And especially when things like a game last week where you're down and it looks like you're going to lose the game and then all of a sudden he rallies you back. They want to step up and feel that, feed off that energy. So I think he's a huge piece of what Vanderbilt was doing. Obviously, if he doesn't play as well as he did, they don't win that game. So, you know, Vanderbilt needs him to be on top form over the next few weeks because they've still got a legitimate shot. You know, they've still got a chance to do some big things. So they want to make sure they can continue to play well and not have to worry about him maybe being, you know, under the weather or anything like that. I'm going to see how the Orlando City will make sure the Bama-Oklahoma game actually kicks off at 2.30 to wind up a fight under the lights. So I want you to be clear on that. But they will be under the lights when Georgia takes on Texas. Some may say that is the matchup this weekend. The Dogs are favored by six. That is the Georgia Dogs over Teos. How do you see number 10 taking on number five, Matt? Well, you know, again, I think, you know, I think Texas season has been an interesting one to me because, you know, remember they started out as the number one team in the country in the polls. You know, they fell kind of quickly and out after struggling early on. Then they find a way to kind of come back and make a big push. You know, I still like Georgia. I still think Kirby Smart has the pieces to do what they need to do, you know, to win games. It's not like he forgot how to coach or anything. And that's why they're the top five team. And so I think if Texas wants to, you know, make a serious run, you know, at being considered, you know, in the SEC race, you know, time's ticking. So if they can find a way to upset Georgia, obviously that would be a huge, you know, coup for Steve Sarkeesian. You know, you should, you almost give the guy coach of the year, you know, recommendation because of that, you know, because of the job he's been able to do. But I like Georgia in this game. I think that the Bulldogs will find a way to pull out the win. Man, they rarely get any recognition, but UConn, who everybody, of course, thinks is the basketball school. Jim Moore Jr. has done a phenomenal job there. They were 10 and 50 before Moore came in in 2022. He has made them very respectable. They beat Duke. They're now seven and three in the last two years. They've got more wins against ACC teams than Florida State does. Three to two. And I'm going to be curious to see, Matt, if his name comes up at the end of the season, because there are going to be so many job openings. You're not going to be able to fill all these, and particularly if Lane Kiffin stays at Oxford. What a job Jim Moore has done in turning over that, turning around that UConn team. I mean, he may be a hot commodity at the end of the season. Yeah, I think he will be. I think his name will come up, obviously. The job he's done at UConn. You know, UConn not in the conference right now. You know, I mean, you have to find a way to win with schedules that you put together. You know, he's done an amazing job with Les. You know, that's, I think, the key there is that when you find success with Les, I think it inspires ADs to think, okay, well, this kind of fits in our wheelhouse, because we don't necessarily have to pay Lane Kiffin money for this guy. We can bring him in, and he's going to be able to find a way to find some success. So, you know, I think he's always been a really good coach. He just really hasn't had the opportunity like he's had at UConn. So, it wouldn't shock me if he doesn't wind up somewhere else. I mean, who knows? I think, you know, UConn may try to keep him there as long as they can, but I just think his time is going to be very limited. Brett brought up Lane. Obviously, we're getting reports this week that he's dropping hints. He wants to stay at Oxford. Is he sincere about that? And that wouldn't be a surprise, but it's business out there. And sometimes these guys know how to leverage their situation. Is this Lane and Jimmy Sexton trying to drive up the price, or is he sincere about collecting his millions there in Oxford? Well, you know, I think it's a little column A, a little column B in that situation. You know, I think, obviously, Lane, it's going to be a very difficult choice if he wants to stay, if he's really in love with what he's doing there, if he feels like his family's comfortable, he feels like that, you know, he's got plenty of opportunities. He can win a national championship at, you know, Ole Miss. Then, yeah, you know, why not stick around? If that makes you happy and you're fine financially, then why not stick around? But also, too, you know, I'm sure there's some talk out there of what's going to be thrown at him. You know, at some point, you know, you might end up pricing yourself out of a job. You know what I mean? You could go to Florida. I know Florida wants him really badly, and Florida's willing to open up the checkbook to get him. But at some point, if you get into, like, a bidding war with three other programs, and that price goes up and up and up and up, you're going to start to bid yourself out of jobs. And I think that's where he's got to be very careful about that. So I do legitimately think he likes where he's at right now. But also, too, you know, he wants to say, what can I do elsewhere? Where's the challenges there? Can I go to Florida and have a chance to win? Can I go to LSU and have a chance to win? Can I go, you know what I mean? And will I be happy doing that? Because I think he's found out, as we know from his past, that's not always the chasing the job and the money that can lead to happiness. And I think that's something he's got to be thinking about. Matt, you mentioned LSU. I don't know if you saw the latest chapter in the soap opera. But now, basically, what we understand, the administration is trying to get out of paying the mega bucks to Kelly, saying it was for a cause. Kelly is saying, you've got to be kidding me. No, I'm lowering up here, and we're going to take you as far as it needs to to get all those nickels coming my way. Your thoughts about it's a gift that keeps on giving, does it not? Yeah. I mean, listen, I didn't think Brian Kelly was going to walk away from a $58 million buyout for half of that. I mean, I think Brian Kelly did not want to lose his job at all, and I think, obviously, they pushed him out the door. So, again, it's going to come down to what is LSU willing to pay? I mean, listen, it's all great when you're convincing, and some of that could be you're convincing boosters and donors. Oh, he's going to take less money, so let's do this now. And, you know, you may not have 100% of agreement on that. So, this is where it gets ugly. It's going to get into lawyers, and lawyers are going to try to find out what's going on. And, you know, I mean, they'll eventually come to some sort of agreement, and it's probably not going to be the 24 mil. It's probably going to be something else. And, you know, so we'll see what happens. We'll finish on this. The Florida State win over Alabama seems like three years ago now. The Seminoles won. It lost to Clemson 24-10, dropping FSU to 1-5 in the ACC. Michael Alford, the Florida State Athletic Director, gave him the proverbial vote of confidence after the embarrassing loss to Stanford. Now, his buyout is $53 million, which, once again, is Brian Kelly territory. But in Clemson, of course, we know they struggle, too. They're 4-5. Matt, your thoughts on the future of Mike Norville at Florida State. Well, that's very interesting. You know, Mike gave an impassioned six-minute speech yesterday, you know, after practice, where he basically said, we're on the right track. We're going to win. You know, we have all the pieces in place. We're going to have success. It's just been a bump on the road. I don't know if that plea was more for the media and fans or for more for his boosters and his athletic director, you know, to basically say, I still believe where we're at. I think it's going to be difficult for him to stick around. And I think there's a general consensus among athletic directors in a lot of programs right now that, you know, you want to win now. You want to have success now. And you want to spend the money, and you're going to do whatever it takes to find that success. Now, here's the problem with that is Florida State has to have someone ready to go. I mean, they have to have a great candidate. They can't just, you know, pay $58 million to get rid of Mike Norvell and then hire a G5 coach or, you know, hire a coordinator or something like that. They need to make sure that they've got somebody because you're making a big financial commitment to this. And if it doesn't succeed, then it's, you know, it's, in my mind, a failure. So I think that's the thing about Florida State. If they can finish strong, I think Mike Norvell may be able to make the case to say, hey, give me one more year. Let's see what happens. That helps reduce his buyout a little bit, and maybe they can move forward. Because, again, we know what the market's going to be like. Do you want to be Michael Alford, the act like director, and you're trying to compete with, you know, the Floridas and the LSUs and Penn State and all these other major programs who are going to go out and spend tons of money to get a good coach when you're not going to be able to afford that because you spent so much to get rid of yours? Yeah, and just the opposite of that is Luke Fickle at Wisconsin. They lost, of course, to Alabama 38-14 in September. His athletic director, Chris McIntosh, comes out and just simply said, look, he's coming back next year. In fact, they beat number 23 Washington last week, 13-10, breaking a 10-game conference losing streak. Who in the world ever thought that Wisconsin would have a 10-game conference losing streak? Good grief. So we'll see where all this stuff goes. It changes by the week, my friend. Matt, where can we get online and get all your good stuff? Yeah, you go to OrlandoSendal.com to check out the latest or follow me on social media at OSMapRochelle. Matt, sounds great. Thanks so much, and have a great rest of the week, buddy. All right, take care, guys. Thank you, guys. Matt Rochelle, the OrlandoSendal coming up tonight. Football, Kent State at Akron, Ohio at Western Michigan and BB, the CFP Part 2 poll coming out. Do you see any changes for the big poll tonight? I really don't see any changes, Harold, in the top five. Now, again, there would be some because quite a few teams lost, lower in the rankings. But, once again, you never know what that CFP committee is going to come up with. Well, we'll find out shortly after 6 o'clock our time tonight. It's going to take care of business for now. On behalf of BB, Greg, James Blair, the entire crew here. Harold Bob, thank you so much for your time today. Let's do it again tomorrow. Tune to two for the Boomer Buck Show.
