I'm Benjamin Ray, he's Mikey Zeke, and we're excited you're all joining us here for another night of UNA Football Night from Lost Pizza Shoals.

And, Mike, we've got a lot to talk about, but the big story, the top thing we've got to touch on, the opening of Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium. We've been waiting on it for ever. 1949, the modern start of UNA football, the first rendering in 1973. We've rattled off the numbers, but we finally opened Bank Independent Stadium on Saturday. Tailgaters showed up as early as 6.30 in the morning. They were there until probably midnight on the streets, it felt like. They could not have gone any better on Saturday.

Ben, I think you said it best on Twitter, and I think others have said the same thing. There are just no words to describe how magical, how phenomenal, tear-inducing this is for this community. I mean, waiting this long to get what we did, and you expect things to go wrong and things to come up on the very first time. I don't remember anything that overshadowed how just amazing, the magnitude of the moment. I think the person that probably made me cry the most was President Kitts, and I think the vision kind of started with him.

He became president my sophomore year of college, and I just remember this was something he wanted for a long time, something this community wanted for a long time, and just talking to many of the people that are here tonight, many of the people that are listening to us right now, a lot of people have wanted this for a long time, and that's what made it so special, and to finally see it come to fruition and everybody just sharing that moment together. I mean, even just seeing that drone shot of the touchdown that's on here, just phenomenal.

I mean, it was such a special day. So much hard work went on behind the scenes to make it possible, and I don't know where he went. He's in the building somewhere. Ryan Adams is here. Where is Ryan? There's Ryan Adams. Ryan Adams is one of those people that worked incredibly hard, director of facilities and events at the University of North Alabama. I think of Megan Dye. I think of Brayden and Grant sitting right here. I think Brayden told me he worked like 90 hours in the stadium last week, 105, 105 hours in the stadium last week.

We would make Brayden go to sleep at times, but the staff worked so hard. But, Mike, it wasn't just our staff. It was UNAIT. It was environmental sciences. It was advancement. It was a total team effort getting that stadium ready last week. Yeah, if you tried to name everybody, you would definitely leave somebody out. It was amazing seeing the entire campus community come together and even the students that were helping with the project and people that were there Friday night testing their areas, going to see where their seat is, going to see where their section is that they're working in, to go see the concession stand for the first time, go see the club level.

All of that, to me, was special on Friday, just for people to take it in for the first time, to go on the field, feel the turf, look around, just see how it looks. But, like you said, it was all hands on deck, not just from our athletic department, but from the entire university and even members of the community. So many people have to be involved, and I think it says a lot about Florence and the Shoals that we have a community that's willing to come together and make something as special as this.

It could not have gone any better. So many big moments to talk about. We're going to talk to Coach Deeran about them as well. Jaheim Ingram's going to join us, Colin Wright as well, a couple of the local products. They're over there ordering. Can't wait to hear from them in just a little bit. But, Mike, we were out there for tailgating with a pregame show. We did four hours of coverage pregame, extended our pregame show. But tailgating was unbelievable. Lion walk was unbelievable. The team intro running through that tunnel for the first time was unbelievable. The fireworks, the first touchdown. Brayden's got a shot of the first touchdown. I want Brayden to pull it up right here. This is the drone shot right here. You can see it on the screen in here at Lost Pizza Shoals, but the fireworks going off right there during that. It's hard to pick a favorite moment. Yeah, you know, for me, I think the tunnel was really cool.

Just watching the players and Coach Dierman kind of leading the charge pop up with the song in the background. And then the fight song playing, and they're on a live camera on a video board that's our video board running out with our band on the field, the flags. I mean, that just gave me chills. The Bobby Wallace intro video where he's standing on the field. He says, welcome home. Man, I was there when we shot the shot, when Davis Farlow took that video, and I kind of cried a little bit there, too.

[5:21] I'm an emotional person this week. I'm not going to lie to you, but so many great moments. That was definitely one, though. I helped Davis with the script a little bit, and when he showed me the final version I was reading, I just said, oh, man, this is going to be powerful. And he nailed it. Davis Farlow behind the scenes. He might be here tonight as well. He does all of our video work, Drew Barton, creative as well. But, Mike, I was thinking about it. You had the championship games in 93, 94, 95.

They were unbelievable, no doubt. I look back to events you and I have worked, from the softball national championship game to the national championship runner-up in 2016. Even though we didn't win it, I'll never will forget the hotel that morning when we had the line walk sending the team out. I'll never will forget Hayden Henderson just bawling as he walked through that, saying, man, all these people came here for us. It was an incredible moment. I go back to two years ago, men's basketball, those tournament games.

I didn't think it would ever get any better than that. But this moment Saturday might be right up there with all of those as one of the best ever. And what makes it so special, and I know I've said this time and time again, but it's because everybody gets to be involved in that. You know, those three national championships were so special. Unfortunately, some of us didn't get to touch the field for that. You know, we're watching the action, but we felt a part of it because that was our team.

Those were the guys that, those are our guys. But this stadium, we got to go into it. We got to be a part of it. We got to donate to it. We got to do various things. And so it feels like you're a part of it. That's what makes it such a big moment. It's just a full community involvement, you know, right up there with so many great moments. And, again, it goes back to the tradition of UNA. It's just so special. The community's always been bought in.

And now to have a home to go to with purple all in it, it's beautiful. The Lions are finally home. And guess what? We're back home again this Saturday. If you enjoyed it, come on back. Benjamin Ray, Mike Ezekiel, joined by by North Alabama Head Football Coach Brent Dierman. Coach, a 38-20 win against Alcorn State. We'll get to that here in just a moment, but the opening of Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independence Stadium. You guys have been talking about this ever since you arrived. You've sold the players on it. For the first time, you got to run through the tunnel pre-game, play in the game.

Your overall thoughts of one of the most historic nights, not just in the athletic department's history, but the university's history as a whole. Oh, we'll get that fixed real quick. I can sign language if I need to. There we go. You know, we talked last week about this being a top three, top five moment probably in UNA football history, and going through it and experiencing it, it was better than I even thought it could have been. You know, pre-game, we ate at the GUC, had our meetings over there.

I got a little emotional with the team. We've got about 25 players that have been here for three years or more. Two of those guys are here tonight, and I could just, I named off story after story after story of things with those 25 guys that they've been through, the adversity they've went through and battled through, the adversity we went through as a team, getting 120 players every day to drive 15 minutes across campus, keeping your pads in your car, keeping your helmet in your car, dressing in a tent last year at Braleigh, never having a logo on the field as a home logo.

I mean, these kids have been through a lot over the last two to three years, and to step in the amazing, awesome environment that we did. This university killed it. Our athletic department killed it. The community showed up and did a phenomenal job. I couldn't have drew it up any better than it happened. You know, with you, Coach, usually on a game week, you're locked in. I mean, every day involves scripting a practice or getting ready for something you've got to do. A lot of locked-in mentality.

And even on Saturday, even you had a moment where you could maybe, you know, smell the roses a little bit, kind of soak in what's happening around you. What was that moment for you on Saturday? I don't know if I ever did it on Saturday, to be honest with you. I tried my best. Chuck, me and Chuck, were joking around a while ago. I didn't say it to anybody, not even my wife, but there was a lot of pressure in that game. You couldn't lose the opening game in Bank Independent Stadium.

And I felt that all the way until zeros hit the clock. And so I tried my best to soak it in and enjoy it. But at the end of the day, it was a stressful day. Now, Sunday, I enjoyed it a little bit more, had the wind, relaxed a little bit, turned the page, cleaned some things up. But it was hard to enjoy it on Friday and Saturday, just to be honest. Understood. We've had some player reactions on some events. I want to get your reaction.

Let's start with the Lion Walk. First time on campus, we were doing our show up on Spirit Hill, on the Pines. Excuse me, I went back too far there. On the Pines, we had our tailgate show there. I stood on the stage and watched the Lion Walk, and I could not get over the sea of people gathered on Pine Street. What was that feeling like as you made that march? You know, as you come out of the GUC right there at Kilby, and you made that turn, you could ask the players this.

Like, it hit me hard again. I probably cried four times on Saturday. But as you make that turn and you look down and you see a sea of tents, you see a sea of people, it's what it's supposed to be like. And our players felt it. They felt like this is Division I football. This is what it's supposed to feel like, to play Division I football. And it was unbelievable. From kids high-fiving you to the band, the cheerleaders, it was just an amazing environment that was created right there in the Lion Walk.

It was amazing to see. And then, right before the game, watching the players come through the tunnel, watching you kind of lead that, the song comes on and pops up on the video board right before the band. I think Jaheim mentioned in the post-game press conference, that was one of the moments that kind of made him, you know, do what you just talked about. Was that a moment for you as well? Yeah, that was another moment. You know, when you come out of that tunnel, we do it a couple times now with practicing there for two weeks.

[15:37] But you never really got to experience the smoke. You never got to experience the band. You didn't get to experience the crowded stadium. It was, you felt like a WWE superstar coming out a little bit, to be honest with you. And Justin, the university went above and beyond to make these players feel at home again. But it's tough to replicate that feeling you get, that adrenaline pump you get coming through that tunnel. I hate that we missed the flyover because I guess we're still in the locker room during the flyover.

I wanted to kind of see the four-plane flyover there. But it was an unreal day. And for fans wondering about the flyover, a helicopter entered the airspace, so it delayed the flyover just a little bit. Some people were asking about that. That's what happened there. Coach, that first touchdown, snap read. Very similar to Sanford when he busted that run, right? When we did interviews over the summer, we asked every player who would score the first touchdown. I think 90% of them said snap. How cool was that whole moment, the fireworks and just the electricity behind that?

It was a well-designed play in a third and short moment where we were able to hide him behind the line of scrimmage and the naked comes wide open. The thing that I got more excited about is we had two players out in front of it with Connor Ruth and Xavier Johnson. They were out in front of it blocking, doing everything they can to let their teammates score that touchdown right there. And then to see him go down and interact on the berm with the people in the berm, it was just a huge, huge moment in that kind of first game.

You know, it was kind of fun for Ben and I, Jeff Hodges. We were all kind of going through, and even in the press box, we were like, okay, there's the first tackle. There's the first kickoff return. There's the first touchdown. We made a big list today of all the very first things that happened. So I think at this time, let's do some Brent Dierman trivia. Are you ready? I think so. All right. Well, we're talking first at Bank Independent Stadium. Kind of a trick question, but here it is.

Who had the first pass breakup in Bank Independent Stadium history? First pass breakup. Dallas Johnson. You're incorrect. Oh, you got help from the audience. Jaheim definitely did, yes. It was indeed Jaheim Ingram. Second play of the game. That's right. Second play of the game. It's a trick question because there was an interception, and somebody may ask, can you get a pass breakup on an interception? The answer is yes. Jaheim, of course, tipped that pass, and Nolan Forshee came up with it. What do you remember about that play?

We've ragged Nolan about it for a couple days now. You know, Coach Partridge has stole the saying from him, but just because, Nolan, you catch the interception doesn't mean you have to get tackled. And he did do a great job of extending that play and trying to go score. But he did catch it, so I'm excited he caught it. You mentioned telling the guys stories about the players who've been there three to four years. So there's Jaheim Ingram, four-year guy, homegrown talent, getting the deflection. I know that was special.

I was pulling for Jaheim to get the interception all the way, but it was good for Nolan. But then the first touchdown after that, K.J. Fields, another guy who's been around for a long time with this program. Coach, how rewarding was it to see those dudes make their imprint on this game, on this stadium early on? You know, the guys that's been here for six, seven months, it means a little bit to them. But a guy like Jaheim that's lived here his whole life, it means more.

It's just reality. K.J. Fields, I think I've told this story before. K.J. broke his leg his senior year of high school, so he didn't have any offers coming out of high school. K.J.'s dad, Kelly Fields, played for my dad at Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama. That's how I knew who K.J. was. We took a chance on him, and to see a guy like that that really hadn't made many plays in the first couple games in the first ever home game in the stadium to step up in a big moment like that, make a catch for a touchdown.

Now, we're not going to talk about the second quarter play he had. We'll just forget about that one. Coach, let's go post-game. I know we've got a lot to break down in the game, but post-game you shared a really good moment with Colin Wright I remember seeing, and there's a really good photo of the fireworks behind you giving a hug to Destin Wade with the game ball in your hand. That's just a perfect photo moment, but what do you remember about post-game and who were some people you wanted to share that moment with?

Man, I think Colin was the first guy that found me with about two minutes left. When we knew we had the game, Colin sought me out, gave me a big hug. Me and him have been through a lot. Colin means a lot to me, just to be honest with you. Destin Wade's the second guy that found me. Destin, we're the third program he's been at, has never really been given a chance to be the guy and now step into a role where he's the guy and to play the way that he did, have almost 400 yards of total offense to lead this program to where we are now.

[20:45] Those two guys were big, and then Leo Glover was a nerd, another one that came and found me as soon as he could and gave me a hug. So guys like that, that I know the adversity they've been through since they've been here, just means a little bit more to me when they come find me. It was a special night indeed, Coach, one that we will remember forever. Don't forget, we're not done. Western Illinois, the opponent this coming Saturday, we saw them in 2019. Crazy to believe that was our first ever Division I team that we played at home. We're rolling from Lost Pizza Shoals in historic downtown. University of North Alabama. Coach, we're talking about the win over Alcorn State at the first ever game at Bank Independence Stadium. First game on campus, and it was awesome. They closed off Pine Street at 5 a.m. I'm told the first students arrived for tailgating at like 6.30 a.m. And they were there all day, and it was a party. I mentioned before, we did our pre-game tailgate show outside. So I didn't get back into the stadium probably until about 4.45, 5, which is a little later than I'm normally inside.

But I got in, Coach, and the student section was already full. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before at a football game. Normally the students are very late arriving. And then I think back to a drive where Alcorn State had it in that end zone, and the students were just absolutely giving it to them. How awesome was that rowdy student section down there? They did an amazing job. You know, on Friday I went to JAD, and I said, JAD, I need the baseball guys being loud and excited.

[25:59] And it wasn't just baseball. I looked down there, and I saw our volleyball girls. I saw our baseball team. I saw cross country. I saw men's basketball, women's basketball. Our athletic department showed up big in that student section. And then there was the normal student population too. But if we have an overtime game, we're playing it in that end zone. I've already made that decision. We're going to play right there in front of the students. I'm a big fan of that. Absolutely. I'm not as much of a fan, but that's for a different reason because Ben and I are on opposite sides of the press box, and we joked and Ben said, I think they're going to play on this side because that's where the students are.

That's the side we're going to go to. Let's go. I think that's the better place to go. Coach, last thing for me before we get into plays. The fourth quarter, the guys seemed really loose because the song played in between the hype video and the guys felt really loose. What was that like for you? You know, for me, going back to my time in 13 and 14 at Auburn, at the start of the fourth quarter, no matter win-lose, tie game, Auburn's playing swag surf, I believe. And the crowd goes crazy for swag surfer playing.

So I went to Drew and Megan, and I said, all right, it's not swag surf because we're not copying somebody else, but what can we do that that's our fourth quarter song? And I want it to be where it makes our players loose, where they're not uptight, they're not stressing. It's something that we can get excited, have a good time together, and then bring everybody's attention and focus back in. And we won that fourth quarter hands down. It was a really close game. I think it was 21-14 or 21-17 entering the fourth quarter, and we end up taking off and killed it after that.

So I thought our guys played loose there. Coach, let's jump into our plays. We've got multiple plays to talk about, and the first one comes from the man who leads the nation in receiving yards. He's one of two players to score on a 75-yard rush and a 75-plus-yard reception. He had the 95-yard touchdown catch against Sanford's school record. What about Xavier Johnson on this play, Coach? It was like he was an alligator out there. They could not grab him. They could not. If you go back for me, I'll kind of walk you through it.

You know, we do a bad fake trying to get everybody to follow Destin Wade here. They actually blitz, and the D-line slants into it. So at this moment in time, I am scared to death because I think we're about to get a tackle for loss. Rod Taylor does just enough to get this thing on the edge by hitting the defensive end here. Snap Reed, a fellow receiver, gets out in front of it and cracks a safety. And then we've got 2-0 linemen. The thing I got the most excited about, Levy Johnson was a little banged up.

Will French was a little banged up in this game. Both of those 2-0 linemen got out in front of this screen and blocked the whole way down the field. That's just unselfish teammates right there. And X made a heck of a play. Yeah, you love to see offensive linemen blocking down the field like that. Receivers blocking down the field. See, right here. Right here. I challenged X. I said, hey, Will French is running just as fast as you right there. Well, hey, then Xander just played him like a piano there, spinning out of that, scoring in the end zone.

That was a great play. Should have been on SportsCenter. I'm surprised it was not. And, Coach, another creative way to get X involved in the game. Well, early in the game, we tried to get some deep balls to him. But they put the safety and the corner over the top of him early. So we had to find a way to get the ball in his hands because he's such a dynamic player. And this was the first way we were able to do that. Now let's talk about the next play.

And X is going to be involved in this one. This was the first touchdown catch for T.J. Holmes, 72 yards. And, Coach, he kind of looked like X out here. You know, this kind of was like me cutting an onion a little bit. It brought tears to my eyes. So T.J. Holmes here is Snap Reed's backup. Snap Reed, just a little back story behind this play. Snap Reed, the play before, got into it with a player on Alcorn's side. And so Coach Ellis yanks Snap out of the game for getting into it with one of their DBs.

So T.J. Holmes goes in and we call the play that Snap had caught all week. And T.J. Holmes just went out and executed and did a fantastic job. Once again, you get to see unselfish O-linemen getting upfield, making plays. Jalen Fletcher shows up at one point and gets a block on the play. Everybody's excited. I don't know what this move is at the end there. I have no clue. Holding hands, crossing the goal line right there. But that's what we did. Did X think he would get partial credit for the touchdown of the yards?

I think in that moment, they didn't know what to do with their hands, kind of like Will Ferrell. And that's what they came up with. Yeah, one part of that, you've been a quarterback, so I want to highlight Destin on this play. Right here, big 88, he came untouched. Destin's got just a limited amount of time to get that throw off. What's that like as a quarterback? You know, it was a design screen, so you've got to continue to vacate. You've got to continue to backpedal out of there, knowing that you've got three or four 300-pound defensive linemen coming at you.

[31:09] You've got to stay composed in that situation, kind of lose ground so they can't put a hit on you with your feet in the ground. So that's one of the throws that he did not aim and get chewed out by the head coach. He just made a play and gave our guy a chance to go make this explosive play. And, Coach, I love the celebration with the students on that one as well. You could really feel the electricity. Yeah, we can score on the other end, too.

You know, we didn't score in the third quarter. We've saved it all to try to score down there on the student section. I said, guys, we can score in the third quarter. That's okay. But student section was amazing. I thought the students, the recruiting section was down there, too. It's an awesome environment to recruit to. I know that. It was a great night indeed. You got something else, Mike? No, you're good. I've cut you off. I'm sorry, man. Well, I was just going to say, also, K.J. Fields getting to catch the second touchdown.

That's not a play we highlighted, but a guy that you said was special. Pretty good play for him, too. Big play for K.J. In a moment like that, first ever home game for a guy that's been here four years, it will always be a story he tells his kids and his grandkids. I know that. Definitely. Those are some of the memorable moments from this opener at Bank Independent Stadium. And he's our next guest. Welcome Jaheim Ingram to the stage here at Lost Pizza Shoals for UNA Football Night. Benjamin Ray, Mike Ezekiel with you as well. Jaheim, 38 games prior to Saturdays in your career at the University of North Alabama. Where does this one rank for you in all the games you've played throughout your career? This game is definitely number one. I mean, for obvious reasons. The atmosphere was there. You know, we had a crowd. We had a student session. Everything was amazing. So it would be crazy to not put this game at number one.

[36:37] Go back to the opening kickoff. You're on the sideline watching that. Offense gets the ball first. You're having to kind of wait your turn to go out on defense. But what was that first feeling like for you? It was amazing. I actually didn't watch the whole offensive first possession until a snap scored. I was too busy wiping tears from my eyes, trying to get myself together. But, you know, it was amazing. Like, at the end of the day, I can't do anything. But thank God for, you know, the community and really everything that came from this point.

What was it like after Coach Deerring gave his pregame speech, Mike counted it, 212 steps from the locker room to the tunnel. What was it like from the time you walked to the tunnel and then ran through that tunnel for the first time? Emotions. Emotions. Goosebumps. Every emotion you could think of was there in that tunnel. And it's really just because, you know, you got guys that have been here for seven months. But then you got guys like me, Kyle, and KJ that have been here for three years just grinding it out every day.

So, like, we've seen the blood and, you know, the sweat equity we put into this place come into fruition. Yeah, it was cool to see it all come together. And then you go to that first defensive drive. First play, incomplete pass. Second play, you get a paw on that thing. And, you know, for a defensive lineman, it's kind of like trying to spot a blue whale in the ocean, trying to get an interception. But you got to be a big part of that turnover. What was that moment like for you?

It was amazing. Talking with Coach Long before the game, he had told me, like, you know, I want you to go out there. I want you to take some shots. Like, we know you're all about doing your job, but we want you to take some shots. So, that play was really one of my shot plays, you know. I'm supposed to have to contain, but I seen an opening through the B-gap, so I shot the B-gap. I was able to get my hand up, and it led to a turnover.

Man, it was like you had some hand soap there on the gloves. I was pulling for you to get that pick six so we could get the flip finally. Man, I told Nolan, hey, if I could have grabbed it, I would have. But I'm happy you caught it. I'm happy somebody caught it. What were some other big moments in that game for you? I mean, a lot of big stops and some big moments. Was there any specific plays that you just kind of had a moment?

I think a specific moment for me was when we had a backed-up drive and we were by the student section. And it was, I think it was still the first half, and the student section was just going crazy. And I'm like, man, this is a real D1 football game. And it was kind of surreal seeing the offense struggle making checks because of how loud they were being. So that was a moment for me that I won't forget. And then post-game, you guys go over to the band.

Students have rushed the field. They play the fight song. I don't know if you guys were out there when the battle hymn was played, but man, what was that post-game celebration like? Amazing. I remember I went to see my family, and then I ran straight to the band, and everybody started screaming and yelling. I was just hyping them up, man. Because at the end of the day, we all work together as one. You know, we go as they go, they go as we go. So how we go hand-in-hand is just amazing.

And then we're in the elevator going to the press conference, and you're right there with a guy that you've known for a long time, Colin Wright. Get to share a moment with him, too. What's Colin mean to you, and what's it like sharing a moment with guys that you've been with? A lot of people don't know this, but Colin is like my brother, man. You know, we played all-star ball together, 10U baseball. You know, his late father was one of our baseball coaches. So me and Colin, we've known each other forever.

So, like, being in college with him and seeing us both live out our dreams, I know his pops is up there looking down, smiling, just like my granddad is. Man, it's a special night. What are some of the other memories that you'll take away from the first-ever game at Bank Independent Stadium? I think really the whole thing is just, like, the guys that we did it with, like Josh White, Mon Cole. You got guys on the back end, like Dallas Johnson. You coaches, like Coach Bowling.

I think this whole roster is just, it's something to remember, because, like, at the end of the day, we're the ones that broke in Bank Independent Stadium. Yeah, you did indeed, and you get plenty of more opportunities to play on it, five more home games. But let's look way down the road. When you get to actually go in the stadium, enjoy it, maybe even as a fan or an alumni just coming back, what's something you're excited about seeing in the stadium? The day that I have kids, I cannot wait to take my kids back there and be like, hey, man, your pops used to turn this place inside out.

That's one thing I look forward to, and I always dream of having that moment, so that's something I always cherish. You know, let's shift gears for just a minute. A lot has been said about this defense. I mean, one of the best in the nation in sacks, tackles for loss. You guys are one of the best teams against the rush as well. What has been so different that has made this defense so tenacious this season? Everybody's just playing as one. That defensive meeting room is a brotherhood at the end of the day, and we're not content.

After every game, we go back and watch a film, and we know there's always something that we can improve on, and I think that as this season goes, people are going to see that. We're not ever satisfied with just getting a win or just holding them to a certain amount of yards, because we know at the end of the day we're capable of doing what we did against Sanford and setting records every single time we go out there. And let's talk about that assignment football, Coach Bowen.

[41:41] It has a lot of great schemes, and it's really seemed to come to fruition, but one play I remember in particular, I think Fred Vealy had a pass breakup, but he dropped back into coverage, and it just seems like it was a perfect assignment play, and everybody did their part. What does that look like to you, seeing all 11 guys do what they're supposed to do? It's amazing. I think we've said this in many interviews, but when you see 11 guys come together and perfectly execute a play, you get a beautiful result, and that was one of the beautiful results that you could get from that.

Well, Jaheim, the fun continues at home, Western Illinois on Saturday. I mean, we're expecting another maxed-out capacity crowd. Mike, what was the final attendance number, 11-8? 11-8-30. 11-8-30. So, again, what's the message to fans, students, the band, everybody, about this opportunity to play at home on Saturday? We play at the bank. Y'all got to come out because we need y'all. This is our home now. So when people step foot in there, we got to make them feel it at the end of the day.

The fun continues to enter at Lost Pizza Shoals. It's U&A football night right here on 93.9. The score of Benjamin Ray, Mike Ezekiel, and our next guest is a captain. He's played in 30 career games at North Alabama. He's made 22 career starts. He's from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He's got that C on his chest that Mike just put on him. Colin Wright is up next. And Colin, same thing as Jaheim Mann's Saturday. Sum it up, how did it feel to play in the first ever game at Bank Independence Stadium?

[46:53] Something you've heard about for a long time. Yeah, I mean, it was just, um, words can't describe it. It was just, it was beautiful. I had butterflies in my stomach coming in, coming down the tunnel. Um, but as soon as I stepped on that field coming out of the, and hearing the, hearing the crab roar, I was just, I let it go. I was just ready to play. Man, I ran out of tissue, so I had to use napkins. I mean, it was just, you know, so tear-inducing the whole game, but Colin, towards the end of the game, I saw you share a moment with Coach Dierman, uh, kind of when the game was in hand.

And, uh, Coach just got up here and said that y'all shared a lot of moments together and getting to share that one. What was that like for you? It was great. Um, just him, him just believing in me and, and just sticking with me throughout, even when he just came in, you know, I was here the season before he got here and he could have easily, you know, like I said, in the Times Daily interview, he could have easily just, you know, try to get me through the door, but I'm, I'm very grateful for him embracing me and coming to the point where we're at.

I saw you when you first arrived and where you guys parked up at the church, you had to walk through the pines. So, so you walked through tailgating and for you, when you enter, I've noticed in the line walk, you always have a distinct style. Like you've got your glasses on, right, man? And you're always so locked in laser focused. What was all that entry like when you got there for the first time from the pines to the lion walk? Oh, just coming around the corner and then seeing everybody just standing out there underneath the stadium.

And it just, it hit me. It's like, it's, it's finally here. Something this place has been dreaming about. I've been dreaming about. And it was just, it was surreal. It was great. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think coming down the tunnel with the live camera and all that, I think you were right in the front. What was that like for you to have nobody in front of you to see kind of just what's ahead and to come through that tunnel with the song and the band about to play?

What was that like? It was all just a bunch of jumbled up noise in my head, really. Just hearing everything. And once the camera turned on the video board and just hearing the crowd, just get excited. I was just, I was just ready to go and put out a show for them. What was it like when you took the field for the first time? I mean, little butterflies, did it feel like a first game again? A little anxious. I always get a little anxious before our first drive, no matter what game it is.

But, I mean, just a little anxious. But as soon as that first play hits, I'm just ready to roll the next one right after. And then your reaction to Snap's touchdown? Like I said, just hearing that crowd roar and the crowd pop and just seeing him run down the sideline and Connor and Xavier blocking. I saw them blocking their tail off, man. It was just great. Yeah, everybody blocking, tight ends, receivers. But even on that play Xavier scored on, offensive linemen all the way down the field just running with him.

What was that like for you to see the offensive line get some steps in? Oh, it was great. Yeah, on that play Xavier scored, I actually pulled because it was kind of like one of the screens we ran. But I just pulled just to try and take some eyes with me. And I just saw him. He got around the corner. Then started breaking tackles, seeing Levy and Will out there just blocking. And Levy just, even with his sore ankle and French, he always gives 110% effort in everything he does.

And it was just great. And once he broke that tackle and French got that chip on that last dude, he was able to just bring it to the house. It was awesome. I feel like in the touchdown celebrations, you're always the dirty dancing guy. You're always lifting everybody, right? I think I saw you do that on Saturday. But that celebration in the end zone after that touchdown, man, with the students, how memorable would that be? Oh, it was great. That's something I've always wanted to do is just go celebrate with our student body who shows up and cheers every single game.

And just being able to go down there and just get hyped with them, it was a great feeling. I'm going to float something out there and see what the fans think about it. You know you've got the Lambo Leap, right? How cool would it be to have a bank bounce? A bank bounce. I don't know. That would be cool, but I'd probably get 15 yards and an earful from a coach or something. I could come up with something better than bank bounce. I don't know. We'll think about it.

I want to see Colin do it. I think it'd be great. Woo! That'd be tough. But I'll get up there for you. Let's go. How special was it for you to share this memory, not only with your family, but your son over there? Oh, it was great. He actually didn't come to the game because, you know, it was very hot and he's hot natured. But my wife was there and I was very thankful she was there. And she actually got down behind us towards the end of the game and just looking at her after we come off the field, after each drive, it was great.

But he'll be there next week, so I'm looking forward to it. And it was just a great moment to share with both of them. It's cool. You got to bring him to media day and show him off with the team. And you had some babysitters while you went to do your thing. That was really cool. But it's a family affair for you. Your family's all here in the Shoals. And getting to share those moments with them on the field and just through this whole journey. I mean, what does that mean to you to have your family in the same city that you played college football?

[52:13] It's just great because a lot of people, you know, their families miss out on games. But being able to see them up there and support me the way they have, you know, the past five years, it's just been great. Even when my freshman year I didn't even, I redshirted, didn't play a game, didn't dress out, you know, still had some family up in the stands, you know. And it's not there just to support me. They're there to support everybody. Well, Collin, we root for everybody that plays for UNA, but when it's local guys like you and Jaheim, I think people always root a little bit harder.

And you guys get to do it again at home Saturday against Western Illinois. What's the message to everybody about what we have an opportunity to do at home on Saturday against Western Illinois and making this one of the best places to play college football? Yeah, man, just show out for us. We haven't played a full game yet. And we're a very dangerous offense. That's what Coach Parker says. And he told us Thursday, talking with some media guys, said, you'll know when we finally click and explode.

So we just got to show up for four quarters, play full four quarters, and just continue to give back to this community what they've already given to us and just share special moments with them. Welcome back to Lost Pizza Shoals here in historic downtown Florence. This is UNA football night. Don't forget, we're out here every single Monday night. From 7 to 8 p.m. Talking UNA football with Coach Dierman, with friends, with family, with players from the program. And, Coach, we had two pretty special ones tonight in Jaheim Ingram and Colin Wright.

[57:13] Yeah, they mean so much. This program means so much to me, especially being local guys. We talk about it's already rare to have two captains from the same high school, two guys that's been going against each other for most of their lives through park ball, middle school, high school. But this place means so much more to them than a lot of our players on our team. And to see them both excelling, to see them both making plays in that new stadium kind of means even more to me to have those guys step into that stage in front of so many family and friends.

And it's crazy. That day, it's going to be a special one, but it almost went by like lightning. You know, you just kind of, you know, you remember everything, but then you forget things. But you've got five more chances to do this at home. What's your message to the fans if they haven't been to Bank Independence Stadium yet? We need a great crowd this weekend. We've got a good team coming in here, a team that battled Wisconsin at their place, a team that just won 50-2.

It's a really good team, and we need this city to show up. We need our players to feed off of this community. 11,000 people this past weekend. I'll take 12. I think Dr. Looney would probably take 12, too. So let's pack that place, and our players will really enjoy it and play harder knowing how much this community is behind them. So we jump into our Burnley Spine and Sport Preview. Coach, I think it's a big message to you and A fans. You've been to a lot of big-time places.

We've been to a lot of FCS schools. We really have an opportunity to build one of the best environments in college football at Bobby Wallace Field of Bank Independence Stadium. I completely agree. I think the design of the stadium is amazing. The bowl design helps keep noise in the stadium, too, so the players hear so much more. It's just an unbelievable feel and environment. The fireworks that are going off, the smoke show, everything that goes into our stadium, we can turn it into one of the best, if not the best, FCS environment in all of college football.

Last thing for me, I don't really have any other questions or anything to add. I just want to say thank you for all the hard work you've done these four years to get us to this point. I know that traveling over to practice, it hasn't been easy. All the things that you guys have gone through, you especially, Coach, with building this thing up. I just want to say thank you for all you do. Well, I appreciate you all. I text you all after the game. I think our athletic department bends over backwards to serve our athletes.

I've been in a lot of places. I've never been in a place that the whole athletic department is so bought in like this place here. As soon as the game's over, we had Tristan Johnson's texting me. Chris Walker's texting me. Tony Pujols is texting me. This athletic department cares for our student-athletes, cares for each other. I'm just upset Brian Neese doesn't show up in person more often on Monday night. Come on, Brian. We only hear from Brian through our phones, it feels like, sometimes. You don't even text me.
