SEC Championship 2025: Second Half Discussion thread

Alabama limped into halftime with a 14-0 deficit vs Georgia. While the Tide defense is playing at a level that can hang with any offense in the country, the Tide’s offense looks like they’re doing their best to make a case to get left out of the playoffs.

Essentially, Alabama’s two good plays of the entire half were a couple of short passes to Ryan Williams, who slipped a tackle and made some extra yards. Past that? Zilch. Ty Simpson has missed multiple passes and thrown a bad pick. Isaiah Horton dropped one. And the run game has done… not much. Add in the Tide getting a punt blocked, and the Bulldogs’ two scores came on short fields after turnovers.

On the other hand, the Alabama defense has mostly stood strong and laid out as much punishment on every play as they can. Even the two short field scores, they forced UGA into needing a whole lot of plays to get there, holding the Dogs to all of 4.3 yards per play.

Alabama does get the ball back coming out of halftime with a shot to cut into the deficit if the offense gets into some sort of functional groove. A 14-point deficit is hardly insurmountable, but for an offense that can barely get any first downs… It may as well be a chasm with with no bridge.

Hope for the best from here… Roll Tide.
