[0:00] Florence Falcons football night at Lost Pizza. For the next hour we'll discuss Florence Falcons football with coaches and players. Presented by 93.9 The Score, State Farm Agent J.D. Byers and River Bank and Trust. Now live from Lost Pizza in historic downtown Florence, here's the voice of the Florence Falcons, Kevin Johnson. And good evening on this beautiful night for coming out to Lost Pizza, being a part of the opportunity to celebrate Florence Falcons football. We're glad to be with you here as Lost Pizza is our host for our Thursday night events and can't believe it's already at the end of the season down the home stretch.

We're looking forward to a great crowd here on hand. A lot of Florence Falcons fans here, a lot of Florence coaches and players here too. And looking forward to a great game Friday night at Brawley Stadium as the Florence Falcons will take on the Hearts and Tigers. You'll hear that game right here on 93.9 The Score. Would you help me here in welcoming this? We're joined by the head coach of the Florence Falcons coach, Kenny Morrison. Coach, how are you doing tonight, my friend? Doing great. Good to see you. Everything going well this week? Had a decent week?

Decent week of practice. These guys worked really hard, bounced back from a tough loss last week and proud of where their mindset is right now. Well, let's talk about it. It's hard to believe it is week number nine, really, or week ten, however you want to look at it. I don't know if for me, it seems like the season just flies by. Does it seem the same to you? It does every year, and I know these seniors, it comes to mind what I tell them every year.

Guys, you'll look up and it's week nine or ten, and sure enough, I've reminded them that several times. Enjoy the moment. Enjoy the time. It goes by fast for them. Coach, you and I have done so many radio shows together this year. I know it's at nauseam for what we talked about, but the fact is, after we get all through to the last week where the region play, we realize what you've been saying all along. This region, from top to bottom, is just so tough, but you know, it's got to pay dividends maybe when you go to the postseason.

Yeah, I mean, we're hoping that for sure. It is definitely the SEC North, and it's been termed that for probably the last 15, 20 years, so it's lived up to the billing this year for sure. It has. It's been amazing. You can see it any time, any place. Anyone on any given night is able to win a game as we speak with Coach Kenny Morrison. And Coach, not only do you need to maybe, as I say, flush last week, but it would be great to come out and crush Friday night because if you could flip the switch and say, let's come out and show who we really are, that would be a great testament to your team.

Yeah, and we hope these guys, you know, follow the rule that we always use with a win, 24-hour rule. Even with a loss, we've got to put it away fast, 24 hours. We know it hurt, and it was a tough loss for us. Some things didn't go well for us, but these guys have bounced back this week, and it's time to get back out on the field and play. It's going to be senior night. It's a great time to be a Florence Falcon. Speaking with Coach Kenny Morrison of the Florence Falcons football team, and let's talk about those seniors for you because it is senior night tomorrow night.

This senior group has bought in and set a pretty high bar for you. They have. I had Bill Jordan come talk to them today. He was a ninth-grade coach on our staff with these seniors, and he reminded me of something over the weekend as we were down and out about the loss. He said he sent me a post that our freshman center had posted when they were ninth-graders and said congratulations to this senior ninth-grade class going undefeated season and, even more importantly, zero unsportsmanlike penalties as a group.

And he and I talked about that. I asked him to come speak to the guys today, and he reiterated everything that we've been preaching and then some. So, yeah, it's a move-on mentality. It is. And this senior group, I think it's 27 is what I counted. I'm not sure if I'm wrong with you. 27 and two senior film guys, so 29 total. 29 total, and they'll be honored before the game and with families and all. But it's such a special night. It's such a special recognition. And these kids have done so much.

They deserve a great send-off as well. Yeah, I go back to the senior nights we've had in the past. And I remember just to equate to the first year, you know, we have to get off the field a little bit early so that we can have time for all the seniors, band, cheerleader, and all our media people as well. And we had 13 seniors the first year, 29 of them that will be recognized. We'll be coming off the field about 620. So, it'll be a fast pregame warm-up to get these guys to have a special opportunity to be out there.

Speaking with head coach Kenny Morrison of the Florence Falcons here on Florence Falcon Football Night Live at Lost Pizza. Glad you're listening in on 93.9 The Score. And all those here at Lost Pizza enjoying it as well. And, Coach, home field advantage is only an advantage when you have a huge crowd. And that's such a big part of it. That's all I'm hearing, the buzz around town. It feels like game one, the first home game we had, the buzz that was flying around the community about the new stadium, this and that.

So, the hearts was going to bring a good crowd. They're going to travel well, no doubt. So, our people better be there. And I think it's going to be a great night for football. The weather will not be an issue for you not to be there. Hallelujah to that because it was an issue last week for the broadcast crew and everybody else, I believe. Yes, and a shout-out to those that traveled and endured that weather last week because it was brutal. It was pretty brutal for sure.

[5:20] Coach, adversity reveals a lot about a team. We haven't had much adversity throughout the year, but last Friday night we did. And now the adversity is what happens this week. What have you seen from this team this week? Maybe just from coming back from adversity. Short-term memory, resilience. They've come back with a great attitude, ready to go. They know the season's not lost. A lot of things can happen. The region championship's still right there in front of us with a little help from Russellville. But, you know, at the end of the day, I said it way back when we left the field house at Austin.

It's about us. We're not – I asked the team on Sunday who are we playing, and they said us. Yeah. So we can't look at our opponent. We've got to look ourself in the mirror. We've got to get better. And I think we did that this week, and that's what I'm proud of. We flushed it quick. It's time to move on, and we didn't dwell on it. Speaking with Coach Kenny Marson, the Florence Falcons, and Coach, one of the things I thought about, too, with this Hartzell game coming in is that, you know, over the years we haven't played Hartzell in many years, but they sort of had the same format of what they do.

I think they still run the 3-5-3 defense. It's still something they've been ingrained, and they've had a success as a program, and I mean a program as a school, baseball state championships, different things. So these are kids from Hartzell. They know how to win in big games. So it's not going to be an easy game. You're going to have to bring your A game. Absolutely. I mean, and they've gotten better every week. You flip on the film and you watch them from week one until now, they have improved tremendously, and they're a really good football team.

Their guys are, even though the situation is kind of iffy about playoffs for them, whether they're close to being or not, but they're playing for their life. They've got a lot to play for, and they're playing harder now than they were in the early weeks. So that tells me they're bought in. It tells me they're well coached. It tells me they're following what their coaches are saying. Coach, we're about a week away from Halloween. Which one of these groups of players, position groups, would be most likely to show up at your door and say trick-or-treat on Halloween night?

It's going to be this D-line group, probably. That D-line group. They were raising their hands, weren't they? They'll scare me when they come to the door. Be some big old dudes. They'll eat the candy, that's for sure. Coach, are you ready for Friday night? Let's go. I'm ready. It's time. It will be time. We're excited about it as well. Looking forward to a great crowd. It'll be at Brawley Stadium, Charles C. Anderson Senior Field, Florence and Hartzell on Friday night, 6 p.m. pregame, 7 o'clock kickoff. And they'll be heard right here on 93.9 The Score.

From our playbook to your plate. It's time for a Florence Falcons one-minute timeout with head coach Kenny Morrison, following Florence's 21-17 loss to Alston. Coach, the point about it is it just wasn't our night, was it? No, it was not our night. Hats off to Coach Perkins. Those guys, they played really well tonight. You know, we had some turnovers. Things didn't go our way. They whipped our tails tonight. There was some bright spots. You know, we faced some adversity with that wind all night long. Some great receptions by our receivers downfield.

You know, there was some things to learn on. Yeah, we got a lot to build on. We took a step back tonight. I was a little disappointed in our sideline stuff in the first half. And we've got some maturity issues that we got to grow up. And we got to just keep working. Hey, lots ahead of us. Who knows? Rustful is a dadgum good football team. Rustful beats them next week. We're still reaching chance with a win over Hartzell. So, lots ahead of us. We'll see what happens.

[10:24] Florence and Hartzell, this Friday night at 6 on 93.9 The Score. We welcome back to Florence Falcons football night, live at Lost Pizza. Packed house here again tonight. A lot of Falcon players and fans here tonight. Excited about them being here. And they're looking forward to their big game against Hartzell on Friday night. We're joined now by the assistant coach of Florence High School, Coach Nathan Cobb. It's here for Coach Cobb here being with us tonight. Glad he's with us. Coach, how you doing, my friend? I'm doing good.

Good. Good to see you today. Coach, your position here. Now, talk about what position you coach and what's your main focus when coaching? So, I coach kickers, punters, long snappers. Main focus is just having them stay grounded and stay true to themselves and, you know, going out and expecting to hit the best ball they're going to hit every day. Okay. So, you coach a little bit of special teams on everything there. And let's talk about a couple of things from that. One is, by the way, before I get anywhere else, I'm just looking at all these guys eating.

What's your go-to meal here at Lost Pizza? I'm a big fan of the beekeeper. Okay. All right. All right. So, you got it. That's good. That's a good advertisement for Lost Pizza right there on that one. Let's talk about what has been maybe this season your favorite game so far that you've enjoyed maybe seeing your kids performing and done well? Well, Muscle Shoals was a big one. We hadn't beat them since my freshman year, that 2014, 2015. Yeah. So, beating them, it was pretty nice. It was pretty nice.

Now, how many kickers and punters and specialists do you work with on the team and maybe even the program? Because I think you work with some of the younger guys, too. Yes. So, I've got three that are full-time specialists on varsity. And I've got a couple that are, you know, long snappers or backup punters. And then I've got four freshmen. And I've got an eighth grader right now that'll be coming up in the ninth grade next year. All right. So, you've got an eighth grader coming up.

So, you've got some young ones you're working with. You've got some older ones you're working with. That's really important. And you also, let's talk about practice. Because as a kicking coach, what does a typical practice look like for our kickers and specialists and all that? Because it's different than a lot of the other guys practicing football. So, Monday is usually the days we go out and we kick a lot. And, you know, we get a bunch of good reps. And then we get into Tuesday and we make corrections.

And then we get into Wednesday. And that's more of our stretch day, getting ready for Friday. And so, because ultimately you're not the same as other positions. You're working that same body part over and over and over again. See, you don't want to overstretch that. It's a long season. It is a long season. That's a good point about making sure. Because I know one of the things I realized a long time ago is if you get a kicker to kick too much, you've got to rest their leg.

They need rest too, don't they? Yes. Speaking with Nathan Cobb, the kicking coach at Florence High School. Parker Greenhall has had an outstanding season for you this year. What makes him special? What do you like about his form of kicking and punting? Because he does both. So, the kid's a gamer. I mean, he goes out there and he knows he's going to hit the best ball that he's got in him. He just, he goes out every day and works. Kevin Sledge, I know he's listening from the road.

But he told me at one point that Parker had been to every extra workout that he helped. And so, he is true to his craft. He knows when he hits, when he miss hits a football, he knows what he did. And he is very quick to correct it. Very easy to coach. Very easy to coach. That's a great, great time. One of my favorite things about Parker, and I've seen it with some of your other kickers that are punters, after they punt, they will walk the track and they'll practice their steps with their ball on the pump and letting it bounce and bounce back up to them.

That's an old trick that we used to learn with punters years ago. And I love that as well. We speak with Nathan Cobb, the kicking coach at Florence High School. Coach Cobb, you were a kicker at Florence High School. You mentioned a minute ago. What was the record you held in field goals? And by the way, I hate to bring this up, but who broke that record, by the way? So, I had a 48-yarder in high school. I think it was against Columbia. Yeah. And Chandler Dixon broke it, not once, but three times.

Okay. A 50, a 51, and a 52. So, the record now is 52, but you get it broke three times, you're like, okay, salute. It was fun the first two times, and now it's just like, man, you're rubbing it in my face. Just a little too much there. I don't know how kickers are and everything. So, game-winning kicks on the line. What is the mindset of a kicker doing that? So, you've got to treat it as every other kick. Obviously, you and I talked about this actually a couple weeks ago, my game-winning kick against Athens.

That was homecoming. Yeah. That was a game. You don't want to lose homecoming. So, those big games, and Alex McPherson, you know, a couple days ago, drilled a 34-yarder, beat the number one team in the country. Yeah. You've got to go out there and treat it like it's every other kick. Obviously, wind's going to be a factor, and there's, you know, distance and hash and this, that, and the other, but you have to treat it like it's just another kick. Do you talk to the kicker if there's a timeout?

[15:26] Do you pull him aside, or do you just leave him alone? So, you know, Chandler had his against Bob Jones a couple years ago, and I just looked at him and said, you got it. Yeah. That's all you can do. Yeah, you've already coached him up for everything. That's a great word there from Coach Nathan Cobb, kicking coach at Florence High School, and we talked about game-winning kicks. We talked about different things, but I want to ask you, who is your favorite kicker? And Vini football team, did you have a kicker that you sort of liked watching, and, hey, man, I would like to mimic my game after him a little bit?

So, growing up, I had a lot. Cody Parkey was a big one, Auburn kicker. Andrew Carlson. Right now, I've got a partial to say Evan McPherson. He's a good friend of mine. We grew up together. Kicker for the Bengals. Yeah, and interestingly, Evan McPherson, a Fort Payne kid, we're going to Fort Payne a week from tonight. By the way, let you know, if you're listening to Florence Falcon fans, that game against Fort Payne has been moved to Thursday night, so a week from tonight. Florence will be at Fort Payne, but, you know, they're known for their kickers there, but Florence High School is starting to be known for kickers and long snappers, too.

That's a pretty important position, and working with them, it's really just a routine, isn't it? Yes. You've got to stay grounded and stay focused in what you're doing. Distractions have to be limited, for sure. There may be some young kickers listening, some dads and parents saying, man, I wish my kid would become a kicker in high school. What would be your encouragement to these young kids that are thinking about maybe wanting to be a kicker or punter in high school? Do it. You know, you can never have too many guys that can go out there and make a kick.

Or pin somebody deep in the end zone in high school ball, especially in this league. You've got to have guys that can put the ball where you need it put. That sounds good. Well, Coach, I appreciate all that you do. I know from a guy that worked with kickers myself a long time ago, it's not an easy job, but it's a great thing, and especially when you see these kickers have success. I know you're proud of Parker and all the other specialists as well, and we wish you the best of luck next Friday night, okay?

Yes, sir. Thank you. Coach Nathan Cobb, the kicking coach of Florence High School. More from the Florence Falcons football night live at Lost Pizza after this timeout. From our playbook to your plate. Last Friday night, the Florence Falcons battled to the end. Mahan throws it to the end zone. Has a man out there. Oh, touchdown. Julesby brings it in. Join me, Kevin Johnson, along with Mike Albertson, Jeffrey Jones, and John McDaniel, as we bring you Florence and Hartzell from Brawley Stadium. Also, I know the University of North Alabama homecoming this weekend, but the big news for us is for the Florence Falcons. It is Friday night, Brawley Stadium. We need everybody to wear their blue, come to the game. Let's pack out Brawley Stadium as the Florence Falcons take on Hartzell tomorrow night at 7 p.m. We're joined now by assistant coach of Florence High School. Let's hear it for Coach Ivan Denton. Coach, how you doing, my friend? Good to see you. Good to have you with us here, that's for sure.

[20:47] Coach, let's talk about this for a little bit. Do you have a favorite go-to here at Lost Pizza for you as well? I like the wings a lot. The wings are really good. General So's wings. All right, those wings are good, so they're not too hot, are they? No, it was just right. Just right? Okay, as long as they're just right. Could be just a little bit more spice. Okay, a little more spice for you. Okay, that's good. Hey, I want to ask you about this.

You've been a veteran coach is what I'd say. I say that nicely because you and I are close to probably the same age. You've been coaching a long time. But that's a great thing because in your coaching times and doing things, you've been in a lot of different positions in coaching over the years. You've worn a lot of different hats. Is that a good way to put it? Definitely. I've coached everything that you can think of, not even football, other sports also. What's the most random sports you've coached, maybe?

Girls volleyball. Girls volleyball coach. My first year teaching, I had girls volleyball. First volleyball game I ever saw, I was coaching in it. The first time. Did you win that day by any chance? I don't even remember. I don't even remember. That's been 35 years ago. Okay. Well, now you've worked your way from being different places, even head coaches, and now you're coaching on the defensive side here. What are you coaching at Florence High School? I coach the outside linebackers. Outside linebackers. You've got some good ones.

Yeah, I do. You've got some good ones. I do. That's a good room right there, isn't it? And, you know, I had one of the best around with Bo Burski and with some injuries we've had to move him inside, and then we just replaced him with a guy that's – and we've got backups that are really good. And I'm really pleased with that group. Let's talk about that for a little bit because as you were talking about replacing, it's a next man up mentality always. And in the linebacker room, you do have to mix and match a lot of times, don't you?

Yeah, we do. And, you know, I think Bo's natural position was probably inside linebacker. But he was so – we were really solid there before Chase got hurt. And so we could afford to put him outside, which he was really great there. But once we had to move Bo inside to inside linebacker, Austin Klotschbach, who's going to be speaking here in a minute, he got to come in and step up and fill that position. He's done a fabulous job. Well, that's great to hear. And we're looking forward to hearing from Austin in a few minutes as well.

And, Coach, one of the things about outside linebackers and coaching them is that they are so important to setting the edge, doing all these other things. There's a lot more to it than people realize. It's probably one of the hardest positions to play on the field because they've got to be that hybrid guy who can come down and play a tight end in the box and keep contained and take on pullers and spill stuff and box stuff. And then they've got to come up from their depth and come up and set the edge, be physical there.

But then they've also got to drop in pass coverage. And sometimes they have to run man-to-man with a guy, say, back on a wheel route or whatever. So it's a tough position for them, and just anybody can't do it. Speaking with Ivan Denton, the assistant coach, Florence High School coaches outside and linebackers. Coach, does your days maybe as a head coach help you now in this day and age of coaching that position, but also maybe just to be a voice sometimes or maybe even a listening ear may be a better way to put it to other coaches?

Yeah, most definitely. I feel like that I think this is my 38th year of coaching. I coached when I was in college as a volunteer coach at local high school. You know, I've seen a lot and done a lot. You know, I've got – I work for a great guy with Kenny Morrison and our defensive coordinator, Harold Wisdom, he'll bounce ideas off of me and I feel comfortable enough to take the idea to him and say, hey, what do you think about this? Because I've seen it all.

And one of the players in practice yesterday was talking about another one of the coaches and said, I bet he would be a 3-3 stack defensive coach. And I said, well, boys, I've done 3-3, 4-2, 5-2, 6-2. Yep. You know, back in the day when nobody threw the football, you get a 6-1. And I've done a 7-1, you know, and so I've seen a little bit here and there. And I feel like my experience helps us a little bit. But also just knowing what Coach Morrison goes through with his day-to-day activities, being a head coach, it's really tasking mentally and physically on a guy.

I know he's not coaching a position, but he's running a football program. And I understand his decision-making and the things he says is how we're going to do it or things that's going on in the program. He can, you know, I have his back completely 100% because I've been in that position before and I understand where he's coming from. Good words and thoughts here from Ivan Ditt and assistant coach, Florence High School. And Coach, who were some of the coaches that influenced you as a coach maybe?

Every coach I've ever been around. Yeah. Good and bad. You know, I go back to my high school days. One of my first high school football coaches I had was one of the meanest men I've ever met in my life. And he motivated with fear. And I always vowed that I would never be that type of coach once I got into coaching. And then I had some great ones also. Garner Ezell was my head football coach. Mark Aldridge, Kenny Aycock was it. And Richard Phillips were football coaches and my baseball coaches in high school.

[26:13] And those guys influenced me. And then every coach I've worked with, you take something good or something bad from each one. And luckily I've been around some really good ones. Leroy Willis at Calvert Heights, a tremendous hard worker. And the coaches I've worked under become a head coach. Every one of them has influenced me and helped me grow as a person and as a football coach in one way or the other. What do you like about this Florence defense as a whole? Oh, this Florence defense is phenomenal.

They're fast. We really don't have blazing speed over there. We've got a couple guys that's fast. But as a whole unit, I don't think anybody in our region runs like we do. We get to the football. Our D linemen are very athletic and they get to the football. It's just a real good group and a lot of fun to watch them and coach them. Because they're physical and they're fast and they are tenacious and they get on the field. Coach, you've talked about your years of coaching.

As the game has evolved, what are some things that you've seen that's been good for the involvement? Because I see things too. What are some of the good things and how things have changed? Well, you know, like I talked about while I go, I've been in a 5-2 and a 6-2 and a 7-1. And you huddled up on defense and you huddled up on offense. And now the game has evolved into such a fast-paced game with signaling, hand signaling. And nobody huddles from there. And the defense is looking at the sideline and all 11 players are getting the signal from Coach Wisdom.

And they're looking for key words for their position. And it's really inviting. The RPO game, the passing game, is really amazing how it's developed in high school football. Which has made it tough. I mean, defense are at a disadvantage now because the rules have evolved around offense. And everybody wants to see the ball thrown. They want to see points scored. And another thing that's really, I think, has gotten better in high school football is the injury part. The concussion protocol. Things like that. The safety of the game.

And they've done a lot of things to help the safety of the players. Coach, I've been dead and assistant coach here at Florence High School. Before I let you go, is it fun for you to see when a player is out there that you've been working with and the lights come on? I mean, it's like one of those things where he gets it all of a sudden. It just, I get excited at practice when we have a young kid and we're doing our drills and we're trying to be really specific on our fundamentals.

And they do something correctly. And they haven't done it completely right all year long. And all of a sudden, that day, they get it. And then they apply it to a game. It really gets me excited. Austin Klotzbach is a perfect example. A kid that hasn't played in three years. A baseball guy come out and he just, well, first started out in the secondary. Yeah. And then we moved him down to outside linebacker and lost as a goose when we first got down there. But he has worked extremely hard.

And now he plays the game like he's been doing it for three years at outside linebacker, which is really exciting to see. Coach, we appreciate you and all that you do and what you do bring to Florence High School. And we're excited about the game Friday night. Are you still excited about Friday night? Oh, Lord, yes. I get excited every Friday night when that national anthem goes off. And during the prayer and the national anthem, that's when I get the goosebumps. And I kind of see myself looking from a Google map, zoomed way out, looking down on Florence, Alabama, the northwest corner.

And I see the whole state of Alabama. And I think, this is where I'm at right now. This is where my feet's at. This is where God has put me. And I just want to make an impact where I'm at. You are definitely making an impact. And, Coach, we appreciate you. Let's hear it for the assistant coach, Florence High School. Coach Ivan did. All right. Thank you. Off the right side again, going to leave it with Williams, up the middle, breaks a tackle, he stays on his feet. 20 by 20, 15-10, they're chasing him at the five and knock him out of bounds.

Inside the five at the three. Going to leave it off the right side with Kayon, cuts it up in the middle, pushes forward to the one, to the touchdown. As he puts it in the end zone, and Florence strikes first, as Kayon Williams is welcomed back, and he does it with six points. Blitz coming, got to pick him up. Good block. Mahan throws it to the end zone. Has a man out there. Touchdown. Gooseby brings it in. That's a close hit zero. So now it'll make it a harder field goal, 27-yard.

Good snap. Good hold. This time the kick. Block. It's blocked. It can be picked up by Florence, and they do. Join us this Friday as Florence takes on Hartzell. Airtime 6 p.m. kickoff 7, here on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back to Florence Falcon Football Night, live on 93.9 The Score and live from Law's Pizza as we're preparing for the Florence Hartzell game Friday night at Brawley Stadium. Kevin Johnson, glad to be with you on the call today and the show today and actually have one of my good friends that's on the radio with me every Friday night, our sideline reporter Jeffrey Jones.

And JJ, how are you doing tonight, my friend? I'm a little nervous about this radio gig. You know, I'm used to doing the pregame and calling the game. You know, sitting here in this crowded room, it makes me a little nervous. Usually we just pretend that no one's listening. I'm a little more nervous having you on the radio tonight than I am on usual nights. I'll put it that way. I can't control you tonight. I like that. I like that a lot. That's a good thing.

Jeffrey Jones, we appreciate you so much being our guest. How did you get started in a sideline for 93.9 The Score? So, good question. Actually, it was random. One day, my preacher at First Baptist Church called me, and he said, Hey, I got a question for you. I said, all right, what's that? He said, how would you like to be the sideline guy on the radio? I said, KJ, I've never done the radio before, so I don't know anything about it. And I was like, but sure.

You know, I've got a little bit of a personality, and I know a smidge about football. So, you know, I jumped on it, and I'll never forget that first game. It's Clay Chauvel. You still make fun of me every year about it. 51-48 final in that game. One of the craziest games I ever saw, too, by the way. And one of the best receivers on the Florence side and the Clay side. One, I'm still playing in the pros right now. I'm watching on Sundays. But anyway, yeah, I ended up, I got a little nerves before the game on Friday, and so I ended up having to, we got to Clay, and I had to go and vomit in the bathroom.

You know what, I made it. Those days are over. I'm more comfortable now. Well, we appreciate it so much. By the way, has there been a favorite game this season for you? Well, I've got to say, it wasn't last week. That's right. I would say my favorite game, well, the most nerve-wracking game by far, which turned out to be my favorite game, was the Muscle Shoals game. You know, getting that monkey off our back was very important. I knew we could do it with this team we have.

We knew that we could do it. It was just one of those things that you've got to get the monkey off your back, and we did it. So, I would definitely say the monkey, it's always, you know, back in the, back in 10 years ago, we beat, we were undefeated against them. Yeah, four or five in a row. Yeah, we didn't. And they flipped it on us for about nine years. And they flipped it. Yeah, that's right. So, I'd say the Muscle Shoals game, and, you know, I enjoy the Jasper game too.

The Jasper game was fun because it was the first game of the year. Football's back. You know, I've got my friend Patrick Darwins, the principal over there. We've been talking smack all week. So, and they had a running back that was highly touted, still is. Ohio State is where he probably will end up. Yeah, that was a good game too. So, I guess I have two that will. And DeBrawley Stadium being recognized that night. Oh, yeah. Charles C. Anderson Field getting dedicated. That'll be a memory that we'll carry on as a radio crew forever.

Speaking with Jeffrey Jones is our sideline reporter for Florence Falcon Football. But he's also a part of a very great place called River Bank and Trust. Yes. Our sponsors for our Thursday night shows here that we do each week. We appreciate River Bank and Trust. And just tell us a little bit about your bank and where you're located. Okay. Yeah, I appreciate you giving me the time to talk a little bit about the bank. So, I'm the Shoals Market President for River Bank and Trust here in Florence.

We are the third largest bank headquartered in the state of Alabama. We're still a local community bank. We're headquartered in Prattville, Alabama. We've got about $4.2 billion in total assets. We have 25 offices all around the state, everywhere from Florence, Huntsville, Decatur, Montgomery, Prattville, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Mobile, Dothan, Enterprise, Lake Martin, all over the place. So, some good news, and I know we've been talking about this offline for quite a while now. We are breaking ground on our new office this week. So, our office is going to be in.

[37:06] I found out the address of the new building today, 325 East Tennessee Street, right across the street from our 401 East Tennessee Street building we're in right now. So, we're going to be at the corner of Walnut Street and Tennessee Street. Very exciting time for us. We've got some bulldozers on the site and everything. I don't know anything about commercial construction as far as that goes. I know about the lending side, but I don't know about the actual construction. But it's a good look, isn't it? But we are moving dirt as of – they said it's probably going to be Monday, but it could be as early as tomorrow.

So, we'll see. Well, congratulations to River Bank and Trust and to y'all. And we appreciate, again, River Bank and Trust sponsoring Florence Falcon Football Night live at Los Feats. Listen, by the way, does it blow your mind how many people will say they've listened to the ballgames on the radio on 93 on the store? Well, so, internally with the radio crew, we have a thing where we act like, you know, if we mess up or say something stupid online or, you know, whatever. Nobody's listening. It's okay.

Nobody's listening. Yeah, nobody's listening. Well, that's not true. No. Because when we say something, you know, sometimes I'll say something just to see who's listening. Yes. You know, like, I'll give you an example. I was at a barbecue with bankers just earlier at UNA, and this one guy walks up to me. You haven't known him for years. He was an old former player, Jordan Bird. And he said, would you predict Alabama by 90 last week in the halftime show? I was like, I sure did. It's like, sounds like we've got a listener on our hands.

Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, and I told him, I said, I just did that just to see who's listening and who will comment on it. I've got some other friends that are Florida State fans. I'll pick against Florida State just to make him mad and see if he's listening. And I'll get a text. My father-in-law is a great listener. My dad listens from Montgomery. And we even have the military people who listen in, that former Florence Falcon. Yes. And they love it. They say, man, we look forward to this.

It brings a little bit of home to them. We have truck drivers all across the country listening to us. And you can download the app if you're listening. And you can download the 93.9 The Score app and listen to Florence Falcon football any Friday night. We speak with Jeffrey Jones, our sideline reporter. And, J.J., I want to ask you, senior night, it's just a special night, isn't it? It's always a special night. And I sometimes might play into it a little bit too much because you get down there on the sidelines.

We have our little pregame show and all that. Well, I transition to the field around 6.30-ish, 6.15, 6.30. And, you know, I get to see all the ceremonies that are before the game and whatnot. Well, you won't see a prouder mom and dad than senior night for their kids. You know, there's tears shed. And whenever I'm, you know, good friends with the parents, whatever, I'll take a picture of them and send it to them. You know, it doesn't beat the Joseph Roman photography pictures, but it's just something, just one more picture of a night that they'll never forget.

You know, and that's a very special time. You know, these kids, these seniors, they've been practicing and working hard for four years, you know, playing for the Falcons. And, you know, we owe it to them. We owe them a good night and good pictures on the field with mom and dad. You know, some of these memories here are going to get blown up being the parents' house. Yeah. And when they end up, when the parent finally decides, you know what, I'm giving all the stuff back to you, they're going to have that picture and they'll be able to show it to their kids.

Yeah. It's very important. I think that's, you know, those memories will last a lifetime. Well, again, we want to say thank you to Riverbank and Trust for being our sponsor for our show every Thursday night. Florence Falcons football night here at Lost Pizza. And Jeffrey Jones, appreciate you being a part of that. And congratulations on breaking ground, too. Yeah. So, real quick, I want to give you our contact information. So, we do commercial loans. We do mortgages. We do all that good stuff. We get the best rates in town.

Just give us a call at 768-5291. 768-5291. 768-5291. Or on the web at www.RiverbankAndTrust, spell out the word and.com. Or you can just call him on his cell phone, which I'll get to you later. Yeah, everybody's got that, too. Everybody's got that, too. That one's 3-3-5, 6-5-3-3. I don't mind. You don't mind at all. We appreciate it, Jeffrey. Let's hear it for Jeffrey Jones, who helps us out on Florence Falcon football every Friday night. Thanks for having me. We look forward to it next week as well.

We're back with more from Florence Falcon football night, live at Lost Pizza, after this timeout. Hi, I'm Jeffrey Jones at Riverbank and Trust. Call 256-415-8693 or order online at lostpizza.com frontslash shoals. From our playbook to your plate. It's time for a Florence Falcons one-minute timeout with head coach Kenny Morrison.

Following Florence's 21-17 loss to Alston. Coach, the point about it is it just wasn't our night, was it? No, it was not our night. Hats off to Coach Perkins. Those guys, they played really well tonight. You know, we had some turnovers. Things didn't go our way. They whipped our tails tonight. There was some bright spots. You know, we faced some adversity with that win all night long.

Hey, a lot's ahead of us. Who knows? Rustful is a dadgum good football team. Rustful beats them next week. We're still reaching chance with a win over Hartzell. So, lots ahead of us. We'll see what happens. Florence and Hartzell. This Friday night at 6 on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back to Florence Falcon Football Night Live at Law's Pizza.

Kevin Johnson, voice of the Florence Falcons. Glad to be with you. 93.9 The Score. Been your home for Florence Falcons athletics from the very beginning in 2004. And it's been my privilege to be with you all those years as well. We're joined now by two of the Florence Falcons seniors. Let's hear it for Austin Klotzbach and Parker Greenhall. Let's give them a big round of applause. Javis, how y'all doing tonight? Doing all right, Austin? Yes, sir. Parker, you doing okay? Doing good. All right, good deal. Let's talk about Austin.

Let's start with you first of all. What number are you in what position do you play? Number 22, and I play outside linebacker. All right, 20. I'm going to let you pull that microphone a little closer to you there. All right, 22 and outside linebacker. Parker, what about you? I'm number 81, and I'm a kicker and punter. 81, kicker and punter. All right, so we're going to get to a couple things here. I'm going to start with Austin. Now, Austin, this is your first year out in football. What or who convinced you to play football your senior year?

Friends convinced me in senior year. I just kind of had to do it. Felt like I should do it. Okay. Wouldn't have the chance to otherwise. All right, so you felt like you needed to do it. That's good. I like that as well. Friends convinced you. Any friends? Any guys that play football sort of convinced you to do it? Bo, Sully, JC. All right. All right, so some of those guys said, hey, we need you out there. Are you glad you did it? Yes, sir. Yeah, I can tell you.

I can tell you're pretty good out there and had a good season so far as we speak with Austin Klotzbach. And Austin, how does your years of playing baseball help you on the football field? I mean, work ethic and just being competitive overall definitely help. You think being in tight games and big games on baseball help you feel more comfortable? Oh, for sure. Yeah, absolutely. That's a good answer there, Austin. I like that. I also want to ask you one more thing. When you think of, you've got a coach over here that we interviewed earlier, Coach Ivan Denton.

Yes, I do. Coach Ivan Denton's been coaching, he said, for 38 years and he knows the game backwards and forwards and one of the good guys in coaching. But when you're coached by him, what has he meant to you? What have you learned from him in this game? Not only maybe football, but just learned from him as a coach. Definitely learned a lot about football that I wouldn't have known and just overall how to be a man. That's good. Very respectable guy. A respectful guy. That's a great answer.

I mean, that is a great answer. I like that as well. Well, I'm going to go over to your buddy here, Parker Greenhoff, the kicker and the punter. Parker, I've got to ask you, who got you to try out for football? When did you know you were going out for football? Yeah, I was actually, I was out playing soccer with some of my friends and the punter at the time was out there with me and there was a football laying around and he set it up and I just kicked it and it went in and it went in good.

So then from then on, I just kept doing it and they recruited me to the team. So that's how I started playing. I don't know if you know this, but the other day there was a kicker by the last name of McPherson for the Auburn Tigers who took down the number one team, Georgia Bulldogs and it was great for all the Auburn fans. But here's a young man that he started out as a soccer player and almost the same story because his brothers picked up the football, he picked it up.

Is that something when you started kicking like, I think I got this, I can do this, did it feel comfortable for you? Yeah. I mean, like I've only been kicking for three years, but I've really been kicking for 12 years with soccer. So, you know, like just kick playing soccer your whole life. You just got that leg swing down, down packed. Does playing soccer give you a calmness in being a kicker as well, by the way? For sure. Yeah. Because, I mean, like you have PK shootouts in soccer where you got to be calm, cool and collective.

So, it just transfers right over to the football field. Now, Parker, I'm going to be honest with you. I know your mom. She was a cheerleader at Bradshaw High School. I remember her in those days. Do you hear her in the stands any during the game, maybe yelling out your name? Have you ever heard her during the game? I feel like I have. I try to block all that out, but I mean, I can hear some voice. Try to block it out, but you're pretty. Hey, a mom's voice is always heard.

[47:33] I like that. That's right. Parker, I was going to ask you this. Coach Cobb has been on the radio earlier today. How has he helped you as a kicker? Yeah, I mean, he played at a high level, so I've just really tried to be a sponge and just take in all the information that he has for me, you know. That's pretty good. I like that sponge. Guys, both of you, we're proud of what you've done and how you've handled everything. I want to ask you, first of all, Austin, is there anyone listening tonight?

Maybe out there listening, but you want to say hi to any family or anything? My mom and dad. Yeah, that's a pretty good answer there. Mom and dad listening in, so what about you for Parker? Anybody listening tonight? Same thing. My mom and my dad are both listening. All right, well, I'm glad they're listening in as well, and I know they're very proud of you as well. Any college plans for you? You got any college plans? I know you play baseball some, too. I'm a mom.

I play baseball. Okay, is that where you may think you'll end up maybe baseball at the next level, hopefully? Probably. That or IBW. Okay, very good. What about you, Parker? Do you have plans for college yet? Not yet. I'm just kind of keeping my options open. Wait until after the soccer season, maybe. See if anything comes up from that, and then after football season, just kind of see what comes up for me. All right, guys. It's time to roast some people, and we're going to roast some people.

If your friends are listening, they've been trying to make faces to you, it's time to get a couple of them back. Which teammate, Austin, is most likely to dress up and go trick-or-treating next week? I'd say Casey Mitchell. Casey Mitchell. All right, that's good. Casey Mitchell called him out, and his teammates loved it. Okay. What do you think you would dress up as, by the way? What do you… Oh, I have no idea. No idea on that? Probably a superhero, right? Yeah. Yeah, probably some type of superhero.

All right, same question to you, Parker. Which teammate do you think would be most likely to dress up and go out trick-or-treating next week? I'd probably have to say my long snapper, Ben Powell. I like it. I always throw the long snapper in there. I like it. That's well done right there, Parker. Well done. Both of you guys, okay? All right, I got one more question for you guys, okay? Austin, which coach, most likely, if you went trick-or-treating to them, would try to pull a trick on you and not give a treat?

Which one was always going to try to pull the trick on you? I'd say Coach Cobb. All right, Coach Cobb. All right, you like that? Okay, that's good. I was from Austin, by the way, Coach Cobb. Same question, Parker, which one? I would definitely have to agree with that. Coach Cobb, he's the one you've got to keep an eye out. Don't go to Coach Cobb's house, okay? No. That's pretty good. Guys, are you excited about Friday night? Yes, sir. You are? Yes, sir. What's it like to be out there and practice on Friday night, warming up, especially as a kicker?

I'm going to start with you, Parker. That's a kicker. That's one of my favorite things to do. I used to love to go and put out the footballs for kickers to kick. What's it like for you on Friday night to get out the kick? You get the adrenaline going and what was a 40-yard field goal and say, hey, I think I can do a 45, 47, you feel that adrenaline sometimes? For sure, yeah. Like in practice, it's completely different than like just in a game, before a game.

I feel like I've got like the adrenaline that will add five yards to the end of a kick before a game. And last week you had to play with the wind, so you had to really practice getting the wind. Yeah, that's right. That was a big part of it too, wasn't it? Yeah, a big, big part. Thankfully, the field goal I had was with the wind, so it helped me out. But I had a punt against the wind, and that was definitely a huge factor. Austin, Friday night, I know it's your first year to play, but it's senior night.

You're going to walk out there at Brawley Stadium, are you going to look around and sort of take it in for a moment? Yeah, for sure. As a senior, what do you think about this senior class? Oh, I love them. It's a great class. They're a great bunch of guys. Love them. Pretty tight-knit? Oh, yeah. Pretty tight-knit. All right, I like that as well. Well, guys, we're going to go get the wind tomorrow night? Absolutely. All right, let's hear it for Austin Klotzbach, Parker Greenhall. They did a great job with us tonight.

And Coach, I know you would want to say this, and I do too, but man, we couldn't do this without Lost Pizza and their employees. They really take care of us, and we really appreciate them all season long. I tell you, they've been cooking for this offensive line for an hour. And they're still cooking.

They're still eating. So, yes, Lost Pizza, thank you for all you do. This is a great environment, a great thing for our community and our kids. It is, and it's great for them. A lot of people come in. There's a lot of people here that said, we didn't come for Florence Falcons football night. And how many times I've had them after the show said, man, I really like that. When's the game? We've even had people that didn't even know about it. So when's the game? And we've had people.

So it introduces a lot of different people to Florence Falcons football. That's important, too, isn't it? Yes, absolutely. I mean, I see former head coach at UNA, Chris Willis, over there. Yep. We've got a lot of folks in the house tonight. I mean, when you've got famous people coming in, that's pretty big right there. That's it, for sure. Coach, let's talk about it a little bit. This senior class, they have known one head coach. That's big to me. As a guy that's been with this program for a long time, as a broadcaster, when these kids get out there, there's a great bond they have with you because they've known you for four to five years now.

That's special for you, too. It really is. Most people will tell you in this profession three to five years to really build a program like you want it, and we're in year five. And the relationships that we've built with these young men, even the guys way back in 2022 when we first got started, still got relationships with those, talk to those guys occasionally. And, you know, it's special when you can continue to have that bond with them that you know is going to last a lifetime. And football is so much more than a scoreboard, isn't it?

Oh, absolutely. I mean, this is, you know, football teaches a lot of life lessons. I say it's the vehicle that drives a lot of lessons taught, and it's really good for us to be able to use the platform and those guys stick with us, listen to us, and draw from it. I use it a lot. I use the – they get sick of hearing it. I talk about 10, 15 years from now when you're married and you have kids and you've got a job, what you can pull from right now when you're being challenged.

You know, Saturday mornings I do the coach's breakfast here on 93.9 The Score. Dr. J.T. Murphy's in there. He was a former Florence Falcon I got to help be with. Dr. Aaron Joyner in there. These two guys that used to play, and now they're grown men, got their families and all. And I look at those men, I'm so proud of them. But they remember me, and I was nothing on the coaching staff. But they remember every coach on there. So that's an important thing because everybody's important.

Coach, it's also important how you handle tomorrow night because it's a big game. What do you want to see out of your team? I want to see our guys relax and play football and have fun playing it. We didn't have fun the other night. You know, adversity hit us. We didn't handle it very well at times. And I told the guys after the game, I might have said this Saturday morning, but I told the Carson, you know, and I told several of the guys, and then I told the whole team at the end, if this is the worst thing that happens to you in your lifetime, you're going to be okay.

Yes. I mean, we have faced adversity in our lifetime as adults, and losing a football game is far from it. You know, it needs to hurt because it needs to matter to you, but it's not life-ending. And it's something to draw from. You pull from it. It reveals your true character when adversity strikes. And this program has come a million miles from the adversity standpoint. And I hear it from those doctors that are on the sideline that have seen those other teams, and they really complement our sidelines with our players and how they respond and react to us as coaches.

It's just, we've got a good thing going right now. We just need to keep rolling with it tomorrow night. Coach Kenny Marson of the Florence Falcons. Coach, it's a good team. They have a chance to become a great team. It's in their hands, is it not? It is, absolutely. I mean, it's, as Bill Jordan told them today of what we preach all the time, one snap at a time, go win one snap. Yeah. Let's don't worry about the scoreboard. Let's don't worry about the series, the drive, nothing.

[57:53] One snap at a time, let's attempt to win that. And then we get back in the huddle, let's try to win the next snap. Let's don't try to win the whole series and the whole game right there in one lick. Coach, let's go do it tomorrow night, okay? Let's go. Go Falcons.
