Now let's join the Falcons radio crew live from the stadium for pre-game coverage. Welcome to Senior Night for the Florence Falcons as we celebrate a group of young men who have poured into this program wearing the blue for the past few years. Their leadership has been outstanding, but tonight more than ever will that leadership be needed after a tough setback last week. Welcome to Florence Falcons football and hello everyone. I'm Kevin Johnson, voice of the Florence Falcons. And we're glad to have you on the TNT Fireworks pre-game show here on your home for Florence Falcons Athletics and Florence Falcons football.
93-9 The Score from the very beginning in 2004. And joining me, my color analyst, my good friend, Mike Albertson. And Mike, first of all, did you get a workout today before we get going? Did you get those arms going and chest going a little bit? I definitely did. We, you know, every Friday, you know, this season, I've been hitting the gym before the game. We have so much in common on that. I like that. That's good. So I'm proud that you said that. I tell you, it's nice, though, to be back in the actual press box after last week.
I know the old man here. I froze to death last week at Austin. It's good to be in the nice confines here back at Brawley Stadium. It certainly is. You know, it was windy. It was wet at times. It was cold. And for it to be that first chill that you really catch of the fall, while it was a welcome change, it was definitely, you know, kind of difficult conditions for a Friday night. But being here, back at Brawley, special place, obviously, and a special night.
You know, bringing back home for senior night in a game, you know, that we get to honor these seniors. You know, these seniors, this senior class has given so much to this program, so being able to honor them tonight and hopefully seal that with a win would be ideal. Both teams warming up. If you wanted just a comparison, just uniform swag, how about it would be like a Kentucky home game against Alabama coming on the road because Hartzell has an Alabama look with the numbers on the side of their crimson helmets, white jerseys, red numbers, and white pants, and Florence in all black with white and blue trim, white letters, and blue helmets.
So I'll give you an idea what it's like. It's going to be like a Kentucky-Alabama at Kentucky. I'll sort of give you the color scheme tonight. Mike, we've said it all year. It's not easy to run the table. I mean, last week the Falcons fell for the first time in their perfect storm at Austin, and we've seen that. It can happen to anyone. It certainly can happen to anyone. And, no, while it's not easy to run the table, you know, maybe a little bit of humble pie last week was just what we needed right in time to finish up this season strong and really enter the playoffs.
You know, you get that loss. You kind of have to refocus. You get jarred a little bit. You know, those press clippings that you were reading, you know, they feel like old history, and all you're doing is feeling the sting of defeat at that point. So being able to refocus and readjust this week was, you know, probably better than most people would say. You know, a loss you never really, you know, get over or really love to accept. However, being able to readjust towards the end of this season as we enter the playoffs is probably the best thing for this program.
And to be quite honest about it, if the young men watched Saturday college football, they saw Notre Dame get beat. It was undefeated. They saw the Georgia Bulldogs fall to the Auburn Tigers, which I will mention three or four more times before the end of the night. We're joined now by head coach who loses. But, you know, one of the things I think that's really good is that I believe that this Falcons team has to really wake up because, Mike, the Hartzell team won last week and two weeks ago had Austin down 21-3 in the fourth quarter.
And they will be tough tonight, this Hartzell team. You can't overlook anyone. No, you cannot, you know, especially the region games. They mean so much. We saw what happened last year when, you know, we thought we won the region. We won the fourth somehow, you know, with some mathematician came up with this idea that we had to travel to Mobile. And so, you know, it became one of those situations. But Hartzell being traditionally tough, they're a well-coached team, and they play their best ball late in the season because they're continuously improving as the season goes on.
[5:00] So they're capable of beating anyone in this region. And we're their next foe. So we've got to, you know, make sure that we're readjusting and refocusing so that we come away with a victory. Senior night, Mike. It's so special. You and I have done this a long time. We're broadcasting. We have seen some special, special moments with senior night, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it again. You know, it's one of those nights that we always kind of circle and go like, well, what crazy thing's going to happen tonight?
Because, you know, there's some guys that just, for whatever reason, those Friday night lights, it's their last opportunity to get out there in front of their home crowd, and they just do something special. Like guys that really don't get on the field much. And, you know, some of those seniors that have been practicing for years, since the seventh grade, just showing up each and every time, getting a few snaps here and there. But this is one of those games where they really can show off what they can do.
And it's a special night, and Coach will be able to rotate those guys in and out and get them some touches and or, you know, just reps in their position. And we're just primed for a special night being able to honor these guys. You just get the feeling it could be really special here at Brawley Stadium tonight. This week, actually last night, I sat down outside of Lost Peets and spoke with head coach Kenny Morrison about tonight's game. Here is that couple of minutes of the conversation we had with the head coach.
Joined now by head coach Kenny Morrison of the Florence Falcons. And, Coach, we just finished up our show here at Lost Peets, so we're outside. People may be walking by and talking, but we're going to do this little broadcast anyway of pregame, and it's Hartzell week. Hartzell, always a tough team to play. No doubt. I mean, they're very well coached, and they're a program team. They continue to run what they've run for all these years. They're a 3-3 stack defense, zone team on offense. And they throw it around a lot more than they have in the past, but they look like Hartzell, look like the players they've always had, really well coached, and they're going to get after us.
And if nothing else gets your attention is that they had Austin down 21-3 before Austin made a comeback, so we know how good they can play on any given night. Absolutely. They've gotten better every week. Every time we turn on the film, they continue to improve. And, you know, every time I flipped on the film to study them during the week, they got better every time I flipped on the film just looking at them. Yeah. Let's talk about this Florence team. They're right now sitting at 7-1 with two games left.
Everything's right in their plate, whatever they want to do. But the biggest thing is that your team is taking care of business throughout day after day. Had a hiccup last week, but the biggest thing is, how has their reaction been coming up to this week? Sometimes a loss isn't all that bad. I mean, we're still sitting in a good spot here. Two or one could possibly be one with a Russell win and us a win. But we can't worry about that. We've got to worry about us and our kids.
You know, I think we all got humbled. You know, we all were stressed out to the end of time looking at this undefeated season, which, you know, kept telling the guys, these don't come around often. We've got a special team, this and that. And we've still got a special team, whether we lost one or not. And it was a 21-17 absolute battle from start to finish in adverse weather conditions and not blaming it on the weather or anything like that. But our kids played hard. We watched it on film.
We didn't quit throughout the game. We just faced adversity and it didn't go our way. And the next day in college football, it seems that the same thing, we're running the table and they got knocked off this. It can happen anywhere at any time. Absolutely. We speak with Coach Kenny Morrison. And, Coach, what do you want to see out of your team Friday night? To relax, have fun, and enjoy the game. You know, not get caught up in what we've got to do. Just we've got to worry about us.
And I want to see us lock in and focus and have fun playing the game. 27 seniors about to be recognized. Yes. Always a special night. Yeah, 29, including our two drone guys, Jackson Sawyer and Sam Myers. So, 29 seniors in this class. It's a far cry from 13 the first year we were here. Programs continue to grow. And the numbers are staying. And that says we're doing something right, baby. Let's see if we can do something right Friday night. Taking on hearts will get a win. And get ready for a big win there to end up reaching play.
Coach, best of luck. Okay. Thank you. Go Falcons. The head coach of the Florence Falcons. You're listening to TNT Fireworks Pre-Game Show. We're back in one minute. Hello. Anderson Field here at Raleigh Stadium, Florence, Alabama. TNT Fireworks pregame show of Florence Falcons football on 93-9 The Score. Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson, glad to be with you here tonight, which is going to be a good game between the Florence Falcons and the Hartzell Tigers. The final region game, Class 5A, Region 7, and a key region game, because Florence last week with the loss to Austin now needs to win this one to secure a home playoff game, basically.
And they might need a little assistance from our good friends down south in Russellville. So best of luck to the Golden Tigers tonight. A win by the Golden Tigers over Austin, coupled with the Florence win, and the Falcons would be region champions. And Mike Albertson, let's talk about this Florence team. Whatever the reason, it wasn't the Falcons we were used to seeing last week. It just wasn't. But what must they do tonight to right the shield? I mean, let's just call it what it is and be honest.
You know, against good teams, you cannot turn the ball over four times and expect to come away with a victory. You can't really expect to turn the ball over more than twice against really good teams. Every once in a while you're going to have a mistake, a turnover here and there and, you know, whatever. But, like, losing that turnover battle in a game of that magnitude was definitely the, you know, that was the backbreaker there. And Austin took it to us. They won the game outright.
And, you know, it was a lack of execution. And was that concentration? Was that a lot of things? You know, the Falcons are going to have to soul search and figure that stuff out. But tonight, you know, we have a chance to right the ship and readjust. One thing, Mike, I realized, though, as a positive from last week, we're not a one-dimensional team. We can do more than run the ball. We can throw the ball when we need to. No, we've been able to put the ball in the air when we've needed to.
That two-minute drill at the end of the first half last week was a prime example. You know, Mahan found a few different receivers along the way and wound up getting the touchdown right before the half. And, really, this Falcon team can and does have a lot of good receivers that can make an impact at any time in the game. Falcon mascot and cheerleaders getting ready for tonight. The Big Blue Bands here will probably have a little early pregame because of senior night. So, I realized that as well.
And the Chick-fil-A cow walking the sidelines here as well up in the stands. So, good to see all the fun and festivities here at Brawley State. And Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson, and Mike, one thing we talked about on the things of being positive, that type of thing, but also Florence has to be smart. We roughed a punter last week when we went for it and maybe shouldn't have gone for it. Just smart IQ football is going to be a key as well. Oh, yes. I mean, you're dealing with, you know, 15- to 19-year-old kids most of the time on this field.
So, there's going to be mistakes. Sometimes, you know, somebody's aggression, you know, winds up being a penalty or something like that. But just being able to learn from those mistakes and not repeat them, I mean, really is going to be key. This Falcon team has grown as the season's gone on. But we still see some of those little mistakes. And as we enter the playoffs, cleaning those up is going to be key, especially when you're getting in those closer, tight-knit matchups. Speaking of high IQ, let's welcome in our third member of the crew, our sideline reporter, my good friend, JJ.
Jeffrey Jones, how are you doing, my friend? It's the first time I've heard that in a long – first time ever. First time ever is what I was going to get at. We were going there, but you set it up pretty good. Jeffrey, let's talk about every game. It's a special emphasis. But tonight, it's one of our favorites. Senior night. Yeah, it's always great to see parents down there. And, you know, the hard work these guys put in, we spoke about it a little last night at the coach's show.
But, you know, it's one of those things that I don't get teary-eyed, but there's a lot of tears down there, you know. And they usually do this the first game of the season. I like the fact that it's at the end now – it's still at the end now. I think it's, you know, last home game is kind of when it's supposed to be done, in my opinion. But I get it why they've moved it up sometimes. But, yeah, it's a great opportunity for these parents to get their picture made with the coach.
And, you know, a lot of these pictures that are made tonight, you know, they're going to be on the walls and put up for years and years and years. And these kids are going to pull them out when their sons are playing football. And they're going to say, hey, look, this is my senior night when me and your grandparents are sitting here. You know, it's just a great night overall for all the seniors. They work hard and they earned it. Florence is in the playoffs, as I said.
We're keeping an eye on that other game down the road, and that's a big one. I hate to say it, but, yeah, we are. We need help for an area championship. And, you know, it is what it is. But, you know, I got to thinking about it, thought about it a lot this week. I think we all have. I would want no one else to have our championship chances in their hands than the Russell Golden Tigers, you know, and Coach Higgins. You know, I mentioned it before.
[15:16] I live right down the street with Coach Higgins. When I don't see him during the week of game week, it worries me. I think that he's doing some prep work. And, you know, I didn't see him at all this week. He wasn't walking his dog in the neighborhood. That's a good sign. That's a very good sign. He's been working, putting in hours. I was talking to Coach Mothershed earlier this week, too, and, you know, we were laughing about the fact that Austin runs, Russell's going to be running it up and down, you know.
And so, he said, they might be back home and watching the TV around 830 tonight. That game will be fast. It will be fast. With those two teams running, I guarantee you it will be a fast game. Let's talk about this Falcons team, JJ. This is still a very, very good Falcons team. One loss does not take that away. Not. This Falcons team is – I'm still leaning on the fact that they are the best team we've ever had. Yeah. You know, there's – we had a rough week last week.
And to be honest with you, some of us in this booth were more surprised. We were not surprised as much as some might be just because, you know, we're not used to being in the position that we've been in. And it's tough. When you've got a target on your back, you're going to get everyone's best game. They know what they're facing. So, we just met our match last week and got beat by the better team that night, you know. And so – but this team right here, they have every – every fast of the game, they've got playmakers.
Every single position group has playmakers. And in some positions, multiple playmakers. You know, and I haven't said it enough this year, but hats off to our offensive line. You know, our offensive line is the unsung heroes, in my opinion. We've got – we've got athletes all over the place. We know that. You know, that's no secret. But it's – with those – those big guys up front have really made a difference this year. And I was – I'll be honest. I was worried about the offensive line earlier this year.
You know, we've been banged up a little bit. Haven't played the most perfect game. A couple games we've had some off nights. But for the most part, they've been our anchor. Yeah. They really have. Well, J.J., we know that you're going to have to get down to the sideline because it's senior night and get things ready. But, man, I'm glad it's not cold for you. So, enjoy the nice weather. Unbelievable. The fact that what we were in last week, tonight, is the opposite. Great weather.
I brought my sleeves, but I don't need them. So, I'm going to go down there and sport my new shirt I got on, you know, my new Falcon shirt, and enjoy it. But, yeah, it's unbelievable the fact that just last week I was the most miserable person on that sideline. And now we get back at home in perfect weather. So, if you're thinking about coming out, tonight's the night. It's the last regular season home game. Get out here to Brawley Stadium. Come support these guys. They worked hard, and they're going to put on a show tonight.

At midfield right now, the Florence Athletic Director, Coach Meyer Miles, and Assistant Athletic Director, Coach Tim Bowens, are being joined by the Alabama High School Athletic Association Executive Director, Mr. Heath Harmon, who is in attendance tonight.
And Mr. Harmon will be our halftime guest tonight, so we look forward to having him to talk to him about what it's been. A very big honor to have the AHSA Executive Director as our halftime guest later this evening. Mike Albertson, Florence must take care of the football. We talked about that a little bit in our first segment. But they also need to do something else. Got to sort of even that out. You got to force a few turnovers. Hadn't done that in a few weeks.
Right. You know, this Falcon defense is really special. But that's been a key ingredient that's been missing the last couple of weeks is being able to force those turnovers as well. So when you give the ball away, you'd love to take it back. Well, the Falcons hadn't been able to do that much the last couple of weeks. You know, there have been a couple of fumbles that have been recovered by the other team. And so while we're going to be able to protect the ball, we're going to need to see our defense be able to take the ball away some as well.
Those big plays are going to loom huge as the season goes on, especially in the playoffs. Let's bring in our fourth member of the crew, John McDaniel, our statistician. And John, how are you doing tonight, man? You had a good week? Doing great. I'm pretty excited to be here. As you guys have mentioned, the weather is cooperating. It wasn't so much the cold last week, but it was that gale force wind that really caused us discomfort and our team issues. Yeah, it caused me – I mean, it was blowing the papers out of my hand.
I mean, it was hard to broadcast. I can't imagine trying to play in the game. And I talked to the Florence quarterback, Costa Mayan, and he said, I'm not going to lie, I was as cold as ice. And he said it was a cold night for a quarterback. And we understand that. John, sometimes, though, let's talk about a piece of humble pie can actually maybe be a good thing for a team. It can bring you back down to earth and make you reassess a little bit.
Yeah, Mike mentioned earlier, you know, if humble pie is served in the slice, we got a whole pie last week. Yeah. We did not play well. And it was – Jeffrey made mention of it, but it was something that we kind of saw coming because we had not been playing to the standard that we had started with earlier in the year. Quite a few games we had gone somewhat through the motions, maybe not played at our best, and more than likely had not practiced with the kind of intensity that we needed to do.
And one thing that gets your attention like none other is a loss, and especially an embarrassing loss. And for the Falcons, this is an opportunity to come back, and I'm sure that they have looked at the film. There was a lot to learn from. And those guys will be able to look at it and address what kind of team they want to be. Jeffrey said this could be the best Falcons team ever, and so record would say it is the best Falcons team. How good do you want to be?
Do you want to be a first round out, or do you want to make a deep run? And getting on the right road tonight is how that gets started. I agree. We're facing a team tonight that is seeing unusual territory. The Hartzell Tigers are a perennial playoff team, but the four playoff teams are already set in Florence, Russellville, Austin, and multiple shows, and Hartzell's on the outside looking in, which is maybe only the second time in 19 years they have not made the playoffs, something like that.
John, still, this is a really good Hartzell team. This is a program with a lot of tradition. You just talked about it. Last year they were one of the best teams in the state. Second, third round of the playoffs, undefeated until almost the end of the year. Quite a number of players signed scholarships from that team last year. Coach Newton is a terrific coach. One thing when you watch film, one of the ways you can tell if a team is well coached is if the same position looks like they're mirror images of each other.
If they step forward or step backwards in sync, you can tell, Coach, and there's a lot of that with this Hartzell team. They're very physical. That's one thing that jumped out. The offensive and defensive lines, they don't – defensively, they don't overwhelm you with size, but they are very aggressive. Offensively, they've got three guys who are 300 pounds or maybe give or take five, and so they have got pretty good road graders on that. This is – I taught you guys this is probably going to be the most accurate passer that we are going to face or have faced so far this year.
[26:00] Not the strongest arm, but he puts the ball exactly where he wants to. He's got two really tall wide receivers. One is 6'6", one is 6'1", and they throw jump balls to both of them, and both are basketball players, I believe I've learned. And so they are excellent at high-pointing the ball as well. Best – probably the most pure middle linebacker. Maybe not the best, but definitely the most pure middle linebacker. He's got well over 100 tackles already this season. He mans the middle, and he is in on just about every play, and he is somebody you're either going to have to block or you're going to have to deal with.
So this is a team that's going to provide a lot of issues for the Falcons, certainly through the air. It's going to be a chance for us to play our best, but it's going to take our best. It's twin brothers, too, that are pretty good wide receivers, and Malachi Palachuk and his brother Azariah Palachuk. So Azariah goes about 6'3", Malachi goes about 6'4", so keep an eye on them as well. And, John, we talked about Parker Greenhall, Florence Kicker. But, you know, special teams have been consistent for us.
Well, you've got to tip your hat to the young man. He's had a really nice season. He has had a really special season. Yeah. I mean, it could be – I don't know what the other 5A kickers have been, but he's going to be in consideration for some All-State honors, certainly postseason teams. So far, he's had like 19 punts this year. He is averaging about – not counting last week, but we're going to take the wind game out. But he is averaging about 39 yards on his kicks this year.
He is 17 for 50 on kickoff touchbacks. That's 35 – right at 35%. And the others, almost 95%. I went back and watched most of them this week. About 95% of the other kicks landed inside the 5. So, he is starting our guys, our defense off with great field position. Four for six on his field goals. Long of 42. And he is 32 for 35 on extra points this season. He has had a terrific year. He has been really a weapon for us. You know, if we get certainly 25 to 30 yards inside, he can put points on the board.
He has been a really strong weapon and addition for this Falcons team. By the way, we want to say just a moment and say a big congratulations to a former Florence Falcon. Lamonte Thompson, great running back here for Florence. I got to be a part of his team, so he was an incredible running back. Then he went on to star at the University of North Alabama. And tomorrow, he's being inducted into the UNA Sports Hall of Fame. So, LT, and from Coach KJ and all our friends here at 93.9 The Score, congratulations on getting into the UNA Sports Hall of Fame on their homecoming weekend.
That's a great honor. And old number 24 is still pretty special here at Florence High School. Jeffrey Jones on the sideline. I know Coach has got a lot going on today, so I'm not sure we'll get to him or not. But what is the attitude right now in the atmosphere like? I'm right by him. I can go get him right now. I'll tell you what, I'll give you a chance, and we'll do that as they made up about the 15, 20-yard line. We'll see if we can get a quick interview with him.
It won't be long, maybe. He's actually – On the phone, I believe, getting some stuff done. Yeah. You know, he's having – Looks like he's doing something way more important than me right now. Yeah, we'll wave him off, so we'll get to you later, okay? He's done. He's given some – he's given some roster changes last minute to the guys upstairs. Okay, very good. We might need to catch those, too, a little bit later. Give me about 15 seconds. We got you. We'll come back to you, JJ. Sometimes, though, we've got to realize this, that Hartsell and Florence are two teams that are there.
Oh, we got him now. You ready? Yeah, I told you about 15 seconds. There you go. All right, Coach, so a little night and day weather-wise tonight. It's a little better off tonight than we were last week, right? It's a great night of football. I hope nobody's sitting at home in the house because it's a great night. It's football weather. When you say great night, I always love this game. I always love the senior night. You know, these guys, they haven't just worked since the first game.
They've been working way longer than that. And these guys have been with you for a long time. Tell us about this senior class. Awesome senior class. You know, this bunch went undefeated as ninth graders. Had a really great career as middle school guys, too, and have been successful all the way through. They're just great young men, hardworking, and they've been committed since day one when we got here. So, tonight, we've got a talented Hartzell team with a couple of kind of, I wouldn't say secret, you know, in week nine, but some weapons that we're going to have to pay attention to.
Yeah, I mean, they're well coached. They've got a great staff over there. I know a bunch of those guys. I just spoke with them. Good to see several of those guys. And they've got some players. We've got to be able to take care of us first and not worry about them so much. You always say focus on us first. Focus on what we do and all that sort of thing. You know, this offense isn't new to them. We're in week nine. You know, we're a pretty well-oiled machine when it comes to that.
No changes really offensively that we're going to implement anything? No. I mean, we went back and, you know, really dissected ourselves and really checked our tendencies and, you know, just corrected what we're doing to improve what the Florence Falcons are doing. Coach, as always, thank you. Have a good night. Jeffrey Jones with Coach Kenny Marson there on the sideline on senior night. Hartzell coached by Burt Newton in his third year. He's 23-9 in his career. Kenny Marson, you just heard, is in his fifth season at Florence High School, 65-23 career.
[31:32] He won a state title while at Fayetteville High School in Tennessee back in 2020 as well. This is the seventh time that Florence and Hartzell has met. Hartzell actually holds the lead 4-2, but Florence won the last time these two teams faced all the way back in 2017 when Florence won it 35-14. Last week, Florence fell to Austin 21-17, but Hartzell knocked off Athens 17-10, so they're playing really well and got to keep an eye on that as well. When we come back, we'll continue our way to kickoff.

There are two things that go by way faster than you expect as a high school student. The first thing to fly by is a football season. I've often said high school football season is the fastest 10 weeks of the year. The other thing that goes way too fast is your senior year. You wait forever to become a senior, and then before you know it, you are wearing the cap and gown.
As the great historian Ferris Mueller once said, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while. You could miss it. Tonight, for 27 Falcon football players, it is senior night. It is a night for each of them to look around Raleigh Stadium and reminisce briefly about all the memories. For each senior being recognized, it is a chance to stop and take it all in and celebrate with family for this special evening. After all, life does move pretty fast.
But at the same time, this senior group can prolong the celebration with a win tonight. Playoffs are assured, but a win tonight wouldn't mean first-round playoff games start at Raleigh Stadium. A win tonight coupled with some help from the Golden Tigers and the Falcons could claim a region title still. We wouldn't mind a little help from our friends. Senior night always seems to bring out the best of the senior class in their final game. Which seniors will step up tonight? We're about to find out. Florence Falcons football, it starts right now.
Welcome back to Florence Falcons football here on 93.9 The Score. TNT Fireworks free game show continues here from Brawley Stadium. Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson, Jeffrey Jones, and John McDaniel are with you tonight. And seniors are being recognized now midfield. And, you know, it's all the football players, band members, and cheerleaders and staff, whoever else, different people that are associated with it. It's a lot of work, by the way. I want to say to Coach Nathan Sawyer, who's doing a lot of the work, you can say. He's organized a lot of senior night.
[36:35] We talked to him. And he's got a son out there tonight. So, it's a pretty special night for everyone here. It certainly is. You know, just being able to see all the families represented, you know, on multiple facets. You know, cheerleaders, band, football, you know, and all that. Like, it's definitely special. You know, high school football has a way of bringing the community together. And to see a lot of friends and familiar faces down on that field right now is special. Like, you know, I just remember some of these kids I actually kept in the nursery when they were children.
Like, when they were in diapers. Like, it's very bittersweet for me, you know, just as a dad and, you know, peer of a lot of these parents. You know, these are a lot of my friends. And so, you know, just being able to see them and being able to honor them on senior night is definitely special. Bo Berski, Hiram Bates, Bats, excuse me, C.J. Bolden, Mitch Boyd, Desaron, Des Brown, I should say, Nelson Elliott, Zakai Foster, J.C. Goolsbee, John Carter Goolsbee, Kevante Green, Parker Greenhall, Sullivan Haddock, Zane Holiday, Drew Hill, Jaden Irons, DeCarson Johnson, Jekyll and Jones, Austin Klotzbach, Jackson Mays, also Dre Moore, William Porsche, Landon Rayner, Orlando Rounds, Deion Sanders, Otis Sistrunk, Maury Smith, Locke Tejada, and Caden Ward, our seniors.
And then our two filmers there is we also have Sam Irons in there and J.T. Sawyer. So we're glad to have all of them being recognized tonight. Very special night tonight as you're here in the background here as they're recognizing them tonight here at Brawley Stadium. And, Mike, let's talk about the game for a minute. The book is out. It's nine games in. No secrets now. Everybody knows things about everybody else. And what worked for one team sometimes will work for another because you watch them and say, well, you haven't done that, but look, it worked for them.
Let's try it. Yeah, absolutely. You know, you wind up getting exposed at some point in the season and you have to readjust and really make adjustments to, you know, make sure that those things don't continue to happen. However, you know, with being able to put things on film and show the other team kind of where your weaknesses are, you know, we've certainly done that. We did that last week. So, you know, being able to get back to practice and shore up some of those holes is going to be important, not only for tonight, but certainly on the road in the playoffs.
John, we've got to turn the page a little bit for Florence Falcons. That's huge. But to turn the page, what do you think we really need to turn the page tonight? Well, one thing I think I've kind of talked about during my time with you guys is I learned in college is don't let one game beat you twice. For these Falcons tonight, they need to turn, they need to come out with a mindset of they want to get that stink from last week off of them.
Everything that they, I'm sure, have been practicing for, they are ready to put out here. The unfortunate thing about football is you only get to play once a week, and so you had to kind of deal with the way that loss felt. And these Falcons, I know, are ready to get out there and to just kind of put those bad feelings out. Hartzell takes the air out of the ball in the way that they play. They can really pound it. And so you're going to have to come out and play well, or Hartzell can just play keep away all night and keep this game until the fourth quarter and try to upset the Falcons.
You've got to win some third downs, that's for sure. Those money downs are going to be important tonight. Jeffrey Jones, 27 Florence Falcon football players that are seniors being honored. A couple of years ago when Kenny Marston got here, there were only 13. That says a lot about how the program's flipped a little bit. That's a stat that I actually knew as well. There was 13 quite a few years ago, and now there's 27 of them. And, you know, looking across, they're spread out from the 10-yard line to the 10-yard line, and there's a lot of talent.
A lot of talent, you know, it kind of makes me, I don't want to see some of these guys go. You know, we've got some tried-and-true Florence Falcons amongst these gentlemen and these parents. And so, you know, I always commend all the Florence families that stick it out from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. And, you know, a lot of these guys, they've been in the system for a long time. I think just about almost every one of them, you know. And so I'm very proud of these athletes and very proud of these mamas and dads that are, you know, get to experience this.
And, you know, it's just a great night all around. I always love senior night. It's a really special night. Their parents are here. Their family's here with them. They're doing a nice job of that. And pictures are coming up on the Jumbotron here, too. John Carter Goolsby getting recognized right now. And just looking down at some of these guys, you're right. These are some special young men. That senior class will be remembered for a long time. Let's look at the potential starting lineup for the Florence Falcons on offense to start at quarterback.
It'll be a sophomore, 6'2", 225, Costin Mahan. Mahan on the year has had a nice season. Eight touchdown passes, I believe it is, on the season compared to only four interceptions. That's pretty good for a sophomore. And he really showed, I think, Mike, a lot of what we know in him. And that is, when I think of Costin Mahan, I think he's just a winner. I mean, he just gets it, and I think it comes from his baseball days. He's done that for a long time. But, man, he showed it a lot last week.
[41:57] He certainly does. And, you know, you've seen him from the first snap this year until now, his growth as a player, but also in his leadership, just being able to lead the Falcons, you know, on the field, being able to not only call the plays, but get his guys in order and really, you know, bring them up when they need to be brought up and take them back down to earth when they need to be cut down. He's done just a really good job of growing as a young player, young quarterback.
Starting at tailback tonight will be the Carson Johnson, 5'10", 175, the senior. Where's the zero, the goose egg? I've nicknamed him the goose. He has had a tough game last week. He knows it. We know it. Can't hide it. It was not his best game. And at the same time, Mike, he carried this team for three or four weeks when all the running backs injured. You cannot deny what this kid has meant to this team. No, he's really been, you know, the constant of this offense, of just being able to be productive each and every week.
You know, last week might have been a little slip up. However, he's going to be able to bounce back this week. That's not indicative of who he is as a player. And, you know, I have all the faith in the world that he's going to have a great game tonight. Wide receivers, you have Nelson Elliott, the senior, 6'1", 170. He'll be at the H position. He'll be joined out there by John Carter Goolsby, who wears number 14, 5'11", 165, also a senior. And Kevante Green, another senior, 6'3", 220, so three seniors will get to start tonight at wide receiver.
The offensive line, they're a good one. Starts at the center, 5'11", 245. The junior, Jacob Harper, wears number 57. He has been really outstanding playing that center position. He'll be joined by Ezra Bird at left guard, 6'1", 306, only a sophomore. So two youngsters there at center and left guard for the Falcons. On the right side, you'll have the senior, Dray Moore, 5'10", 255. He's started probably, I'd say now, 20 games in his career, probably, if not more. On the outside, left tackle will be Raymond Russell. Russell, a sophomore, 6'1", 280, a sophomore, as I said.
Where's number 71? And, Mike, you know, three of the first five I've mentioned, or first four I've mentioned, underclassmen. This offensive line is young, too, and some young backups as well. Certainly, you know, we definitely have depth. And if we really look up and down this roster, we probably have as much depth as we've ever had in this program. And, you know, yet while we're talking about senior night, we're also looking towards the future of the future is still bright here. Yeah, I agree with that. C.J. Bolden will get the start as well tonight.
He wears number 72. He'll be the right tackle. And he is a senior as well. So, Bolden will be here getting the start tonight on senior night. The Falcons will have a kicker that's a senior as well that's been outstanding. As you heard his stats earlier, Parker Greenhall. He'll be the punter and kicker. Wears number 81. Mitch Boyd is the long snapper, but also Mitch Boyd is one of those H-backs. 5'9", 195, a senior. Wears number 20. And the tight end is Kirkland Blank, a junior. He's 5'10", 200 pounds. That gives you the starting lineup for the Florence offense, who is averaging 34 points a game.
This Falcon defense has only given up 14 points a game. Harsel comes into this game averaging 22 a game, giving up 16. So, I know a little stat I saw, guys. Florence has given up two shutouts. They've had two shutouts this year against Muscle Shoals and against Pinson Valley. Then they've also given up the most points they've given up a game is 21. They've given that up three different times. So, three different times out of their first eight games, they've given up 21 points. But that's the most. So, if Florence can get, I'd say, more than 21 points, that's a good sign.
And if you can get over that 21-point mark, your defense says, you'll get that. We'll take care of you. That's a pretty outstanding defense, John. You've done this before. You look at a defense giving up that many points through eight games at this level. That's impressive. And I'd like to note that a lot of those were, again, several of those touchdowns were late. We gave one up against Russell late, Athens late, against backups that we were trying to get depth. So, a lot better statistically against our starting group versus that.
But when you've got a team that you don't have to worry about offensively scoring every drive, it takes a lot of pressure off of them. And to be able to settle in, they don't have to press. I agree with that as well. Let's sneak in a one-minute timeout. We want to say thank you again to our friends at Garner Pierce Auto for providing our away vehicles. Our Garner Pierce Auto will take care of you. And now, we want to say thank you for listening in tonight to the TNT Fireworks Pre-Game Show.

And you can have it and listen to it anytime you want as well. Let's look at this Falcons defense potential starting lineups.
And it starts up front with Mr. Jaden White, 6'3", 275, a junior. He has been outstanding this season, and only a junior. And really, he is the catalyst for this team up front to set the stage and set the base for it, no doubt about it. He'll be joined by two good ones, though, on that defense line, including A.J. Dixon, the junior, 5'10", 240. Also will be joined by Nate Pride, a junior, 6'2", 260. And Mike, once again, up front where it counts. How about on the defensive side, all underclassmen for starters and many more behind them that are underclassmen, too?
It's an embarrassment of riches on that side of the ball, for sure. Our defensive line has just been one of those real difference makers the last two years. You know, they've had definite impact, and we've still got another season to go, it looks like. Yeah, it's phenomenal. On the inside linebacker will be Bo Burski. Where's number 26? He's 6'1", 205. He is a senior. He will be joined by Jaden Irons in there, another senior, 6'2", 215. And Jaden Irons leads the team in tackles, averaging right at 10 tackles a game.
Impressive for number 23. I said it earlier this week in a couple of the radio shows I did, and one of them I said, give me Bo Burski and Jaden Irons, and I'll go to work all day long with those two guys on defense. Yeah, they're definitely special linebackers. We saw them really come on the scene last year and have a direct impact on the Falcons' success. But this year, as seniors, you know, they've really carried that torch and really have done just a phenomenal job. On the outside, Jaden Martinez, 5'10", 170, junior, wears number 32.
He'll play that banded outside position. He'll be joined out there by Austin Klotsbach, who I got to meet for the first time last night, interviewed him on the Florence Falcon football show live from Lost Pizza. Austin Klotsbach was very impressive last night on the air and off the air, a fine young man, a baseball player who came out. Why did he come out? Because Bo Burski said, I need you to come out. Come out and play football. Talk to him into it from baseball. Mr. Klotsbach now has started an outside linebacker and is starting to find his rhythm a little bit, Mike.
You know, it's one of those things, you know, especially at the high school. Like, there's athletes all over that, all over those hallways that can have an impact and really help things out. So when your friends are telling you to, hey, maybe you should come play with us and, you know, really put some work in. And he's done that. He's really worked hard and really shown it on the field so far. By the way, at that linebacker position, you might also hear Hayden Lotz, who's really started playing a lot more, 6'1", 170-pound junior.
And then on the other side, you may hear, lost my place there, but I'll find Mr. Rowlett will be in there a couple of times. You'll find his name in there a couple of times. So there'll be a couple of linebackers bouncing in as well. Dez Brown will be the cornerback, number 2, 5'10", 175. Dez has had a great season for the Florence Falcons. He'll be joined by London Petty Poole, who is one of the smaller players we have on the field. But he is a tremendous athlete and really plays that outside position really well.
But he'll have his hands full. He's going to give up some size at the height, and that could be a factor. We'll see how he plays that tonight. He's only about 5'9", as the cornerback on the other side. The safeties, Landon Rayner, consistent, Mr. Consistent, 6'1", 170-pound senior. Has done a great job this year. And Otis, I will hit you any time I get a chance. Sister Junior, 6'1", 2'10". He will bring the thump any time he gets a chance to, won't he, Mike? He certainly does.
You know, just as his career has unfolded, he's one of those players that, you know, every time he lays his pads into somebody or puts his helmet, you know, his hat on somebody, you can almost feel it. Like, he definitely gives it his all out there. He's definitely a very, very big effort-type player. Elijah Ouellette, by the way, is the player I was trying to remember. I couldn't think of his first name. Where's number 31? He'll be in there playing defense for the Falcons as well. So, that gives you a little bit of the rundown for these two teams.
[52:18] And, Mike, Florence Falcons, Kayon Williams was back last week. Still not 100%, but pretty good. Yes, you know, he definitely had an impact on some plays, especially early in the game. He got the ball a little bit late as well. But, you know, you saw him. He wasn't 100%. He came up, you know, a little hobbled after a couple of plays and everything. But, you know, he's still coming back. So, getting him the ball, getting him some opportunities to get back in game shape and really have an impact for the Falcons is going to be important.
We haven't been able to do this for several weeks just because we ran out of time and got to talking maybe more than usual. But we're going to do our stat of the night. The stat of the night is brought to us by our good friends at Chick-fil-A. They'll be open until 10 o'clock tonight. And we appreciate them helping to sponsor what we do with our broadcast as well. But it's one of those that John McDaniel does for us, and it really talks about our region a little bit.
John? Well, we want to make sure that Chick-fil-A gets the most for their money when they're sponsoring us. Especially with those. Chick-fil-A for doing all they do for us. Yes, especially with those waffles and chickens. The 5A Region 7 standings is what we're going to talk about tonight. So far in first place in the region. Austin is 5-1 in the region, but 5-3 overall. Florence, we're 5-1 also. And, of course, in second place after last week, we're 7-1 on the season. Russell, 5-1 as well. 8-1 on the season.
Muscle Shoals, 3-2 in the region. 4-3 on the season. They're in fourth place. Hartzell, 3-3, 4-4 on the season. They're just on the outside looking in. Athens is 2-4 in the region, 3-5 overall. And Decatur, 0-6, 1-8 on the season. They're 7th. And East Limestone currently bringing up the back is 0-6 and having a rough year at 0-8 overall. You know, when we think about this, this region has been tough from top to bottom. And making sure that you look at it, it's been a tough region no matter who is playing and where they're playing.
So you have to keep an eye on that region. But it comes down to the final week. I'm not surprised it's come down to the final week, Mike. We knew it was going to be like that probably from the very beginning. You know, looking at the teams, when the regions were put together, we knew it was going to be a closely fought battle there for the top spots and everything. And, you know, of course, it's going to come down to the last game. But we're going to wind up, you know, playing our game, doing our part.
And, you know, maybe doing a little scoreboard watching at the end. Well, we're here at Brawley Stadium. We might have a small delay. One of our cheerleaders got injured in one of the stunts or something. So they're checking her, making sure she's okay. So we wish the best for her. And they're making sure because they're athletes too. And I don't know what happened, but we want to make sure she's okay. Yes, it's not a fateful injury. It's just a lower leg situation possibly, you know, from up here.
It's hard to tell, but it was on a little bit of a tumble. She wasn't dropped or something like that. No, nothing like that. Terrific. That's good news. Yeah, I want to make sure we let them know that. But we'll be thinking about her as well. But I tell you what we'll do. We'll go ahead and take a one-minute timeout. We'll come back more from the TNT Fireworks pregame show after this one-minute break. Thanks for choosing Whataburger. What can I get started for you? [57:22] Back here at Raleigh Stadium, we're at Florence tonight, getting ready to take on the Hearts of Tigers. Kevin Johnson, the crew, glad to be with you. We rarely get to do this, but tonight, on this senior night, we want to recognize the Florence Big Blue Band. So tonight, we will have the National Anthem from the Big Blue Band as they get the flags and the Honor Guard will come to the 50-yard line, and we appreciate all the great work that the Florence Falcon Big Blue Band does.
And tonight, you'll get to hear the National Anthem here before a nice crowd on senior night at Charles C. And now for the National Anthem from the Big Blue Band. And now for the National Anthem from the Big Blue Band. And now for the National Anthem from the National Anthem from the Big Blue Band. Thank you. Thank you. The big blue band here at Florence High School. We're moments away from kickoff of Florence and Hartzell. Let's pause for a 30-second timeout. We'll come back. We'll have the captains at midfield.
You're listening to Florence Falcon football. We're back in 30. Carbine Construction is honored to be a part of building projects with the Florence City School System. We're also glad to cheer on the Falcons as they celebrate milestone achievements as well. Good luck to head coach Kenny Morrison and the Florence Falcons football team on building a special season to remember as Carbine Construction wishes you the very best this season. Remember, at Carbine Construction, we build trust, we build relationships, and like the Florence Falcons football team, at Carbine Construction, we continue to build.
TNT fireworks pregame show getting ready to close up here as the captains meet in the midfield. A little bit later start, the injured cheerleader during pregame is off under her own power. That was good to see. Again, we're glad to have with us as our special guest at the half, the Alabama High School Athletic Association Executive Director, Mr. Heath Harmon, will be with us. Looking forward to speaking with him. And very nice of him to come up and be a part of the game with entourage from the AHSAA.
Captains tonight for the Florence Falcons, all seniors, including four that will lead the way out there, Dre Moore, Jekyll and Jones, Jaden Irons, and Parker Greenhall for the Florence Falcons. And for the Hartzell Tigers, they've got a big old guy that's going to lead the way out there, and Liam Wooten will be one of them. And the lights goes out here at midfield as Holland Hurley, one of the great defensive players for Hartzell, will be there as well. I expect sportsmanship. All right, sportsmanship. Everybody understand that.
Everybody got it. I got Keyshawn here. Come here, my man. Keyshawn Williams on a coin flipper. All right, we've got a head on one side, tails on the other. What are you going to call it? Tails. He calls tails. If he drops, he'll do it again. Hey, you throw it up. Throw it up and let it hit the ground. All right, just throw it. There you go. It is head. He won the toss. He'll defer, right? He'll defer. He'll defer. All right, go. Florence won the toss.
We're going to defer to the second half. All right, so Florence wins the toss, according to Jeffrey Jones, and will defer. And so they will have it start in the second half. This is Florence Falcon football. We're back in 30. Hey, guys, this is Mark down at Warehouse Tackle. So we offer the best fishing tackle and outdoor supplies in the Shoals area. [1:02:45] Now let's go to the press box for tonight's game. Here's the voice of the Florence Falcons, Kevin Johnson. Gorgeous night here at Raleigh Stadium, Florence, Alabama. Senior night for the Florence Falcons as they get ready to take on the Tigers of Hartzell High School. And again, great to have some different ones involved tonight, including the young man who flipped a coin earlier. That was pretty cool. One of the Florence students that doesn't get to do things like that. He's getting congratulations as he walks up throughout the stands as well.
Florence wearing the home black, trimmed in blue and white. They'll kick it off towards the scoreboard in the north end zone. So Hartzell will be going toward the south end zone, towards where the new weight room facility and new structure is being built that will be ready for next year here at Raleigh Stadium. Two different players back for the Hartzell Tigers. Catch the numbers there. It might be Lance, but to check that, I believe that's going to be Morrill will be one of those. And Greenhall to boot it away in a nice high-hanging kick that Morrill will take around the 10.
Brings it up to the left side, push it to the middle, tripped up at the 22, and he goes down there. And that's where the Tigers will have it first when we come back. This is Falcon Football. It's pause for station identification. The voice of the Florence High School Falcons. WYTK-FM. Rogersville. Athens. Decatur. The Shoals. 93-9. The score. David Amos, the senior quarterback, 5'11", 175 pounds, will come out to lead the Tigers right away with Morrill, his tailback, Jai Morrill. He'll have three wide receivers, including the Palachek brothers, of Azariah and Malachi.
Now, Morrill will go in motion. We look to throw. Empty set. Down to the right side. I had 1-1 going out there and trying to get it to his receiver. Incomplete, but flags fly. And there you see the 6'6", Asa Priola, going up against the Falcon defender, and he draws the flag early on. Yeah, right away, they've tested our secondary. Probably, you know, probably a wise decision right off the bat is really go up with their 6'6 guy against some of the undersized D-backs that we have here.
You know, we kind of got caught out of play, and, you know, the defensive back kind of took down the wide receiver. The first down will move it out to the 37-yard line of Hartzell, the 15-yard penalty. So, first and 10 at the Hartzell, 37. Morrill stays in the backfield behind the shotgun quarterback, Amos. Three wide receivers. This time going to leave it with Morrill off the left side. Scats back. Look and hit at the 40 and push down there as Jaden White, Bo Berski, excuse me, Klotzbach, and Jaden Irons come in on that play.
Yeah, that was a good job by the Falcon defense. They got pushed up front a little bit, but the linebackers came in and cleaned that up right after a two-yard game. John McDaniel, this is a big offensive line again we're facing this week. Yeah, they're very big. 3-15, 300 on the right side. Left guard's about 3-10, so they're very large. Second down and seven play for Amos. Trying to get the Falcons to jump. The four-man front won't. Now Falcons back out. They're in the 3-4 look as far as one wide receiver left, one to the right.
Tidy and H back in there as well for the Tigers. Amos going to look to give it off tomorrow. He's hit. He goes down. Klotzbach comes up and says, thank you very much. How about that for a youngster just playing his first year of football? Yeah, it was a good job by Klotzbach to come around the edge there to beat his man and stop the running back before he really even got started at about a three-yard loss there. Rings up now third and 11 for the Tigers, and we've talked about how important these third-down plays, four wide receivers for the Tigers.
They also bring in a new tailback as well. We didn't get his number. We'll catch it in a minute. Back to pass. Amos looking. Has time to the side, and it's hit and caught at the 43, but he's going to be short of a first down, and so that's a game tackle by Florence. Pretty good job there by the Falcon defense. That was a good job by Klotzbach to be able to – as that ball was in the air, he was already closing in. He was making a play.
You could tell that he's gotten a good feel for this defense and for what he's doing there on the field. He was able to hit the receiver as he got that reception. Palachek's the one that caught the pass, and Florence has to call a timeout. We'll do the same. No score here early on, 10-0-5. Falcon football back in 30 seconds. Hey, Falcon fans, this is Keith at Cypress Creek Indoor Range. We know great defense starts up front, and the Falcons start with Jaden White, your defensive tackle.

We're the biggest gun store in the Shoals and the only indoor shooting range and training center to provide everything you need to have the best defense for your family. Cypress Creek Indoor Range is located at 5060, Highway 157, and Underwood, Petersville.
[1:07:46] On the web, cypresscreekrange.com, and on social media. Go Falcons! Back at Brawley Stadium, Hartson gets ready to punt it away. Owen Newton will punt it away. Goolsby will go deep to receive it. Fair catch taken for and brought in at the 25-yard line. So the Florence defense, though they give up a penalty and a little yardage, they did their job. They forced a punt there into first possession. Yeah, they definitely held serve there and was able to get the ball back early on. So, you know, after one first down, no real harm there.
Just being able to get the offense on the field now and maybe put up some points. First and 10 at the 25. Mahan will be the quarterback, and we have two running backs back there. Kayon Williams will be one. DeCarson Johnson the other. Three wide receivers. Going to leave it with Kayon. Looking, cut it up. 25-30, 35-40. There goes Kayon. 45-50, 45-40. They're chasing from behind to the 30, to the 20, to the 10, to the 5, and he's tripped up at the 6-yard line. Oh, number 10 was giving it all he had.
He's not 100% yet, but he's almost 100%, and it looked good. You know, just seeing him burst through that line as he cut up the field, you know, it definitely gave you flashes of what's to come when he's 100% healthy. But, you know, that breakaway speed that he had early on, you could tell he was just hobbled just a step slower than he usually is. He would have been gone. Good hustle by zero for them. Braylon Swoops has made a really good effort. I said for Flyon Falcons, Mahan going to leave it at this time.
Carson Johnson to the 5, breaks a tackle to the 2, to the 1, stretches out. He's in. Touchdown, Florence. The goose finds the end zone, and Florence finds the scoreboard. Yeah, that's a great job there to call zero's number there on this play, giving him an opportunity to find the end zone. He definitely did it. After last week, you love to see that bounce-back play by the senior. By the way, Parker Greenhal will be attempting the PAT. Russell will strike first against Austin. They lead at 7-0. Greenhal's PAT up.
Greenhal's PAT is good. New score, Florence 7. Hartzell 0. This is Stockton Football. We're back in 30. Hello, my name is Keith Medley, and I'm an attorney with the law firm of Johnson, Passeur, Medley & Burchell. No representation is made that the quality of legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers. Back here at Broadway Stadium, Florence strikes first, 7-0. Let's go to our statistician, John McDaniel. Well, those are easy numbers to crunch. Two plays, 75 yards, 32 seconds. Of course, the big run by K-Yod, 67 yards. Greenhal's kick is short. Going to be taken by Morrow at the 9. He has a seam at the middle to the 25 and hit down around the 26-yard line. That's a pretty good job of Caden Ward coming up and tripping him up along with Rowlett.
He's a guy that will go full speed into that, so you've got to keep an eye on Jeffrey Jones. Not a bad start for this Florence Falcon team. No, momentum's here. Everybody's hustling to the ball. Got the defense that gave up one bad play, the first play of the game, and since then they've tightened up. Of course, the offense goes out there and takes care of business like that, make it easy on the defense here. I'll tell you one thing. This Hartsell team has put it in the air, and they show they're not afraid to.
They'll throw the ball. Kevin, that is what I would do to attack us for this team. Three wide outs, one receiver, one running back. Leaves it up the middle to the 30, to the 32, and brought down by Sistrunk at the 33-yard line. But that's their big tailback, Southern. They list him at 5'10", 175. I think he might be a little bit bigger than that, but not much. He looks well put together on film, KJ. He does. I agree with your assessment. So, Maddox Southern with a six-yard run, second down and four at the 33.
Just underway. Florence leaves at 7-0, and Florence jumped off sides that time. The hard count got the Falcons leaning, and that'll give the Hartsell Tigers a first down. Don't see that often from that defensive line. We haven't seen that a whole lot this year, Mike, but that time they got us. Yeah, they definitely did. We're trying to get off the ball real quick, especially with those big guys up front, being able to get off the ball quick on that snap. They just got caught a little bit.
Yeah, they'll be able to adjust that as the game goes on. Amos will put two out wide left. Priolo will come right. Palachek, and I believe that may be even Morrow in the slot down there. Straight drop. Amos looks left, looks to throw. Now he's hit as he throws down the middle of the field, and it's tipped away incomplete. Pretty good job by Petty Poole coming up and making a hit there, forcing a quick throw there by the Falcons. Martinez and friends came in there, and along with A.J. Dixon.
[1:12:55] Austin Klotzbach was the one that actually made the hit after the throw. Yep. So it brings up second down in 10. Klotzbach pulled back just a little bit on that. If he would have ran through him, he might have had a chance of getting a hand on the ball. Dixon, one of the wide receivers, wide left for the Tigers. We're going to run it inside this time, and this time Southern's not going to get there. Southern is brought down for no gain. Great job there by Petway.
He comes up and makes the play. A defensive lineman getting off the block and making a stop. Yeah, this Falcon defense early on looks pretty hungry. I think they were a little bit humbled last week, and they came a little hungrier than we're used to seeing. Third down here, nine yards to go for the Tigers, trailing floor at 7-0. Two to the right for Hartzell will include Weathers and also Dixon. Look to roll to the left right now. He wants to throw across the middle, and he's got it.
No, I think it's short. Let's see if they give it to him. It's incomplete. No catch. Incomplete. Kenny Marson was right there by the official calling that one. It would have been a first down if he could have brought it in, but Weathers could not bring it in, and it brings up fourth and nine, and the Tigers will think about putting it away, and got to be alert. They've got the offense still out there. They've still got the offense out there right now, so you've got to be alert.
I think they're trying to play the little chess match. And they just did, and got Florence again. And I think from now on, Kenny Marson says, from now on, I'm going to make the calls on who goes out and who comes in. Time out on the field. Florence leaves at 7-0. We're back in 30. We always root for the home team, because we are the home team. First Southern Bank, equal housing lender, member FDIC. Back at Brawley Stadium, KJ, Kevin Johnson with you. Voice of the Florence Falcons, where the Falcons lead Hartzell 7-0. With 7.56 to go in the first quarter, and the Tigers of Hartzell have played a little razzle-dazzle on the special teams, trying to force the Falcons to have to keep guys on and off the field.
And right now, they've forced Falcons to use two timeouts here early in the first quarter. So that's something Kenny Marson's not happy about. High snap, but he'll boot it away. High kick, and again, fair catch being taken by Goolsby at the 25 again. So nearly the same kick from Priola. Priola is a big old boy down there, and I'll go to Jeffrey Jones. Asa Priola, number five, 6'6", about 180 pounds. I was hoping he wouldn't have to butt in and give his thoughts. He is every bit of 6'6", every bit of 6'6".
He's the tallest receiver we've seen all year. And maybe the tallest punter I've seen in a long time in high school. Yeah, well-built, well-built. There's no doubt about it. If he isn't playing basketball next time. He definitely is, by the way. Okay, I was going to say, if he doesn't play basketball, their coach needs to recruit his hallways. That's for sure. They reverse recruited. Yeah, yeah, football got him. Yep. First and 10 at the 25 for the Falcons. They're going to look the pass across the middle and got it to Goolsby, who couldn't bring it in.
Behind him on that one a little bit, but he had to spin up, and he had space right there, Mike. He definitely had space over the middle there, delivered a little bit behind Goolsby. There was no way to really readjust on that one. But that play is available. We'll look for that one down later in the game. Kevante Green will check in at wide receiver, along with Jackson Mays on the second down and 10 play. DeCarson Johnson's the tailback behind the shotgun quarterback, Mahan, from the 25-yard line.
Florence leads at 7-0. Now DeCarson will come to the right of the quarterback. Going to leave with DeCarson off the right side. Not much running room there. He got maybe a yard, and that's it. That Hartzell defense was waiting on that one, Mike. Yeah, they definitely filled their gaps well. They held that line of scrimmage there and cleaned it up nicely. There was nothing there for DeCarson to really gain. And so now it's going to be a third and nine or longer. Third and nine. Florence now money down.
Sullivan Haddock will check in along with Goolsby and Mays and Kevante Green wide to the right. Tigers showing blitz in that 3-3 stack defense. The 3-3 defense will have those five guys sort of shell out. And they have one defensive back who is really good at intercepting passes. Play clock at five. Rolling rights. Mahan looking to throw to the sideline, and Green catches it right at the 37-yard line, 38-yard line. That's a first down. Right in front of the Hartzell bench. He just used his strength right there, Mike.
Right. That was a nice pitching catch there. Green did a great job of keeping his feet in bounds, and Mahan delivered a beautiful ball, just threw an absolute bullet right to Green, and Green showed some good hands there bringing that one in. John, the 3-3 stack defense is really one you don't see often. No, it's really more of like a Big 12 kind of where it originated, and we'll talk more about it after the play. Kayon Williams into the game for the Falcons. Blitz coming. Look to throw it quick across the middle.
[1:18:17] Complete to Green. Try to get loose. Cannot. Brought down at the 43. A gain of about four. Let's go back to that 3-3 defense. Yeah, it provides a lot of flexibility. You've got your three linemen and your three linebackers. They've got five defensive backs really on the field, so you can do a lot of different things. You can always bring an extra linebacker or defensive back, makes odd blitz packages, and really guides a lot of flexibility. Kayon Williams with the high white socks on tonight. Florence in all black, white numbers, blue helmets.
This time, look to pass again. Swing pass. Got it to Goosman. Got running room. 45 to the 50. Stays outside to the 45. Got the first down. Into Hartzell territory before he slung down at the 41-yard line. That's enough to move the chains. That's a Falcon first down. There was a very soft spot there in the defense. The Falcons exploited it nicely, giving the ball to Goosby in that spot. He was able to run it upfield, good blocking by the wide receiver to get him enough space to get beyond the sticks in a first down.
Drew Hull, the senior, checks in at wide receiver. Florence on this first and 10 play at the 41. Florence leads at 7-0 with six minutes and change, counting the first quarter. Blitz coming again from Hartzell. They leave it again off the left side. That is going to be Kayon Williams with it. Spins out to the 35 and slung down to the 33. He'll gain about six or seven right there. Man, he's still got some moves, even though he's just getting back in the groove a little bit. Right. He definitely moves different.
He's got a lot of bursts there. Even at maybe 85% to 90%, he's still just – you could see just the raw talent just oozing out of him. Kirkman will go wide right. Hull will be in the slot. Too tight and set. The back Kayon Williams behind the shotgun quarterback in the pistol formation. That's Costa Mahan at quarterback. Blank and Kirkland move to the left. Going to go left with it. That's a big hole right there for Williams to the 30, to the 25. He has the first down. Lost the ball, found the scramble for it.
Florence got on it at the 17. That one popped out late, but a good job there. And that's Drew Hull, I think, that came and recovered the fumble. Jeffrey Jones on the sideline has a huge recovery by a wide receiver as a senior. You got it right. That play was over. It was over, and it came out, went about seven yards, and Drew Hull was there with the awareness to pick it up or will fall on it. So, we live to play another day. Carson Johnson in the game, first and 10 at the 17.
Again, the Tigers sow that blitz coming up with two outside backers. Florence will wait with the play clock at 10 and reset the play. Leading at 7-0 and knocking on the door. Johnson off the left side, looking, cuts back in the middle, 15, 10, 5. He will score. Touchdown, Florence. He was untouched, and the goose has done it again. That was a beautiful job by DeCarson Johnson. Great job by the offensive line to have a huge hole there. And DeCarson hit that hole with all his might, wound up, you know, finding the end zone pretty quickly.
He was pretty well at full speed by the time he got back to the line of scrimmage. C.J. Bolden, Dre Moore, Jacob Harper, Ezra Byrd, Raymond Russell, the big guys up front, along with Mitch Boyd and Kirkland Blank doing their job. Green Hall, PAT. It's on the way. It's good. And Florence extends the lead. 14-0, 4-51 to go in the first. Doc and Football is back in 30. Florence Utilities now offers new bill pay options. Florence extends the lead 14-0. Kevin Johnson, let's go to John McDaniel.
Yeah, Kevin, it was another 75-yard drive. It was eight plays this time. Two minutes and 58 seconds. It came off the clock. It's 17-yard touchdown run by the Goose. Deep kick taken by Mara at the 5. Comes back up the middle. Hit spun out at the 20. Oh, my goodness. Who stuck him there? That was a nice play. The 42. Yeah, coming up and making a play right there. If I'm not mistaken. That's Jekylland. Jekylland. And now check on the injured player. It's Jekylland Williams. Jekylland Williams making the hit there.
Let's check on the injured player for Hartzell, who's down on the ground. While they're checking on him, let's take a timeout. 14-0. Florence leads it with 4.46 to go. We're back in 30. This is Congressman Robert Adderholt. Serving the people of Alabama's 4th Congressional District is truly the honor of my life. Whether it's helping veterans get their benefits they've earned, protecting Social Security, keeping our rural hospitals open, or bringing investment and opportunity to our district, I'm focused on working hard and making a difference for the people I represent every single day.
[1:23:18] I'd be honored to have your vote on November 3rd. I'm Robert Adderholt, and I approve this message. Paid for by Adderholt for Congress. Back at Brawley Stadium, where Florence leads it 14-0 over Hartzell with 4.46 to go. So, the Hartzell player is being checked on the sideline at this time to see how he's doing. Russell will still lead Austin 7-0, but Austin just had a touchdown run called back on the penalty. So, we'll keep an eye on that. Morrow is the injured player that was returning the kick.
He got stuck by Ja'Kyle and Williams. He's shaking the cobwebs out a little bit, too. I didn't think he got stuck like that, but he's shaking his head, but he's going to be okay, I think. But he's walking off the field across the way. Go ahead, Mike. As of one minute ago, that score, Russellville 7, Austin 6 with 2.58 left in the first quarter. There was a touchdown, and that extra point was blocked. That's right. 7-6 now. Austin takes the first and 10 for the very long-term 20-yard line. Hopefully, the young man will be okay.
Appears to be holding his arm, Kevin. Yeah, might have got stuck on that arm. Maybe a little kind of stinger or something. Yeah. First and 10 for the Tigers. Back to pass. Amos rolling to his left. Squares up. Throws to the sideline. Complete right at the 25-yard line and up to the 28. He'll get about eight yards across the way. Weathers with the catch. Brings up second down and two for the Tigers. So, Florence up 14-0. A win by Florence and a win by Russellville would make the Falcons reach the champions.
But first things first, you've got to take care of Brawley Stadium right here. Wide to the right for the Tigers will be Malachi Polichek, his twin brother, Azariah Polichek. Wide left, I believe. Play action. Wants to throw again. Looking down the middle of the field. 101. Has Polichek out there. And he catches it at the 25. Looking to spin out at the 25. Got down to the 20. Get down at the 18. Tremendous catch right there by the youngster who brings it in. And the home run ball was a beautiful throw by the quarterback there for Hartzell.
Yeah, our defensive back, I guess his eyes got caught looking in the backfield a little bit. He got beat deep and he was in recovery mode almost the entire time. It was an easy ball there for the quarterback to deliver. It was a big play there for Hartzell. Six-foot-six. Asa Priola will be wide to the right. Get ready for the jump ball possibly. Tailback Southern behind the quarterback Amos. Going to look to pass. Looking, got his tailback out of the backfield. Caught it. Southern down to the six-yard line.
That's enough for another first down. First and goal on the wheel route. Irons will knock him out of bounds along with Sistrom. Yeah, it was a nice wheel route. Nice ball there by the quarterback. Really nice touch. The running back caught it. And our guys converged and did a good job of just getting him out of bounds. Tyler May, the tight end to the left. Southern the tailback behind the quarterback. Amos on the first. I think now it's Priola at quarterback. And the Falcons jump. Priola went with a hard count.
And the Falcons jump and give them another three yards. Jeffrey Jones, this one is not going well on this drive. Yeah, this drive, we need to tighten up. It is not. That was kind of a bonehead move right there. So, they're going to move it inside the four, just a three-yard line. Priola, the six-foot-six now kid at quarterback. And he'll carry it a lot of times on this. He's going to give it inside, though, to Southern. He bounces it outside. He gets by and scores a touchdown off the left side.
Sealed it on the left end. One player had a chance. He breaks the tackle. And Southern will score. And we've got a ball game with 4-0-2 to go. After the Falcons win it 14-0, now it's 14-6 pending the extra point. Just a big play right there. And you see the calmness of this Hartzell team who has nothing to lose. And they're playing pretty loose on offense. Newton to attempt the PAT. Good snap, high snap. They actually got the kick up, though. And the kick is up.
And the kick is good. New score. Florence leads Hartzell 14-7. Falcon football returns in 30. At North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic, our Shoals roots run deep. [1:28:27] Lots of offense in the first quarter as Hartzell answers the Falcons scored. Trim it to 14-7. John McDaniel, tell us about it. Well, it was four plays and 80 yards covered. 45 seconds that came off the clock. It was really quick and big. Of course, the big long pass. A 54-yard bomb. Newton's going to kick it off. I would be alert. They have nothing to lose. They can do on-side kicks. They can have fun with this. Hartzell can. They're here to play loose and try to upset the Falcons.
Newton will attempt the kick, and he's going to boot it high and deep. Pretty good kick all the way into the end zone. That'll be a touchback. So it'll be first and 10 for the Falcons at the 20-yard line. It actually hit a Falcon player who's trying to catch it. It went over his head and rolls into the end zone. Don't forget, the AHSAA scoreboard show will be with us tonight from 10 to midnight. James Moody, Blair Krieger will be in the 93.9 The Score studio is giving you all the updates.
The scores from around the state of Alabama and also from the Shoals area. It's the AHSAA scoreboard show here on 93.9 The Score from 10 to midnight. And in the morning, the coach's breakfast from the North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic. The final broadcast of the coach's breakfast for the season will be from 8 a.m. till 9.30 in the morning. I look forward to doing that one as well. First and 10 for the Falcons. Mayhand, the quarterback, with three wideouts to the right. Wants to throw. Looking past the screen and got it to Kayon to the 20.
To the 25. And he goes out of bounds at the 29. Almost to the first down. And a late flag on that. That one coming. I think that might have been a face mask. We'll see. Yep. Face mask call. And that's going to move it even a little more. So that'll be enough for a first down. Jeffrey Jones, you had the best look of that. Yeah, good call by Jacob Gristom on the back end. He had a good view of it. Jacob and I play together at coffee here on this field right here.
He's a college referee, but his crew is off this week, so he's filling in. But good call by Jacob there. Well, I wouldn't play the personal names on it, but I'm glad that you did. That's okay. I tell you what, I also ran into Zach Richardson just now. His kid plays at Hartzell. He was our quarterback. He was the quarterback at Bradshaw. Is that your cousin over there calling on the other side? I couldn't remember. I was going to ask, but we're going to make sure there, okay?
No, I don't know that guy. Okay. First and 10 for the Falcons at the 44. 3-54 to go in the first. Florence leaves at 14-7. Florence, 7-1 on the season, ranked number nine in the state, trying to put themselves in a home field position and almost got the Tigers to jump off sides, and they did. Just barely. But the Tigers did jump just enough. The nose guard said, wait a minute. I will say this, Mike. We have a good look at it. Hartzell plays about a yard off of the line of scrimmage, so you give them a little buffer on stuff like that, don't they?
Yeah, they certainly do, and, you know, it's one of those. They know better a little bit, but they still got caught. Guys, I've noticed on film, you're talking about offsides on the defensive line. It seems like our referees are calling any kind of movement, not even necessarily feel like you're getting in the neutral zone. Got to be in the neutral zone, but it happens sometimes. The Falcons almost got him to do it again, but that time he didn't go into the neutral zone, and that's the right call.
25 on the play clock, plenty of time. The tailback is Kayon Williams, the ball at the 49. Kayon get it off the left side, bounces at 50, 45, cuts it up 40, stays on his plate, drags defenders all the way down to the 35-yard line. That's enough for a Falcon first down. Big 16, 17-yard run there by Kayon Williams. And the thing I like about him is he gets downhill, but he gets downhill in a hurry. And once he cut it upfield, he had a lot of green space in front of him.
Great job by the Falcons blocking downfield. And he had found the little seam and rode some players for another extra yards for a first down. 14-7, Florence leads in the first quarter, and Kayon Williams already approaching 100 yards. First and 10 at the 32. Tigers show blitz. Falcons look back. Carson Johnson now the tailback to the right of the quarterback. Mayan, who has four wide receivers, two to each side. Going to leave with Carson off the left side, and this time they were waiting on him. No game. Matter of fact, he lost a yard or two.
Coming up and making the play for the Hartzell Tigers, was Seth McCann. He makes the play. So it brings up second down and 12. Approaching the end of the first quarter. Florence leads it by seven. Kevin, that's the counter. When you can't stop the run, you start adding more and more guys. They had about seven to eight right on the line of scrimmage. Look for the Falcons to start trying to exploit the air. Second down and 12. The Carson Johnson to the left of the quarterback, Mayan. 12 on the play clock.
Now he'll bring Goolsby in a little tighter. Back to pass. Look, he wants to throw to the sideline and complete to Goolsby. Catches it. Hit hard. Knocked down at the 26. A gain of about eight. Gets back the lost yardage and four or five more, and brings up a manageable third and five. Jeffrey Jones on the sideline. Let's go to you about that Goolsby because that was a tough catch because he didn't see the defender coming. He got hit pretty hard. Yeah, it was a tough catch.
He got spun around a little bit, and then he took a good, like, rib shot from the outside linebacker, but he held on to the ball. It was a great catch by Goolsby. Falcons want to go fast. Nobody in the backfield. Mayan to throw. Across the middle. Complete. Got it to his receiver. Caught by Elliott, and he's got the first down at the 21-yard line. The senior who is being Mr. Steady at wide receiver, Mike. We don't talk about him enough. It's definitely a reliable source of receptions out there for Costa Mayan.
[1:33:46] He hit him right in the chest with it, and beautiful hands there by Nelson to bring that one in. Green wide right, three to the left. Did Carson Johnson steal the tailback? Mayan looks over the 3-3 defense of Hartzell. Under two minutes to go. Knocking on the door, leading 14-7. Haddock, Elliott, and Goolsby to the left. Now Johnson will go to the left of the quarterback, Mayan. Play clock under 10 now. Going to go right side this time. Looking at Carson who lost his feet that time.
The right foot and left foot were spinning out on turn number two, and he lost a yard right there. Talladega weekend coming up. He's got a little of that spin around turn two and couldn't get it to go. Yeah, they lost a little grip on those tires, and, you know, we're going to have to, you know, with it being second and 11 or 12, we're going to have to come up with a chunk play here. I know several people going down to the Talladega races. My good friend Mark Mayfield.
Hope you enjoy it, my friend. Second down and 12 at the 23. Three wide outs left. Kayon Williams the tailback. Pistol formation behind the quarterback, Mayan. Now he'll step back up to the left. Three on the play clock. Going to look to play action. Got to get rid of it. Big pick up the blitz by Williams, but there Mayan gets hit by another guy and goes down back at the 30. Didn't turn it loose. Couldn't find anyone open. Give credit to Kayon Williams. He picked up one blitzer, but he couldn't pick up two.
Too many guys coming. Yeah, but, I mean, they were definitely overloaded there. You could only block so many, and, you know, there wasn't anybody downfield to really target at that point. So, you take the sack, and it's going to be third and 20, it looks like. At the 30-yard line, the Florence Falcons have to touch the, we'll say the 11, so about 19 to go. The Harts obeying across the way. They brought a good crowd, by the way. One of the better crowds we've seen this year. Playing loud.
Six on the play clock, down to five. Mayan gets the snap here in a second. Finally does. Back to pass. He may go for Green. Does. Down the sideline, but Green lost his footing. He slipped down, and he'll be fourth down, and now decision time. With five seconds to go in the quarter, do you attempt a 47-yarder, 46-yarder, or do you go ahead and keep your offense out there? Kenny Morrison thinking about it. I would probably go for it. I think it's just a tad out of Greenhall's range, and that's what he's going to do.
47 is a very tough kick at this level, and early on in this game, we're going to have to just make a big play here. Play just coming in with 20 on the play clock now. The Carson Johnsons in the backfield. Mayan's the quarterback. Two to the left, one to the right. May go for Kavante again deep if we can. Blitz coming. Mayan stepped back, picked up the blitz, has time. Needs to get rid of it. Throws it towards the end zone. Going up and caught. Touchdown, Florence.
Blank catches it and pulls it down, and Kirkland Blank with his first touchdown of the year, and what a time to come up with it. What a great job by Mayan to string that one out, to be able to bring it to the outside, being able to get in and deliver an absolute missile into Kirkland Blank. Blank showed some great hands there. That ball had some heat on it. He brought it in and just tiptoed into the end zone at that point. That was a great play by the Falcons.
And great feet as well. He had to tiptoe it there right inside the sideline. Greenhall, PAT, it's true as well. Florence leads it at the end of one by a score of 21-7. Falcon football back in one minute. Craving authentic Mexican flavor? Dive into delicious at Hugo's Mexican Restaurant, 4160 Florence Boulevard at the entrance to Kendall Garden. Lexington leads Sheffield 15-0. West Limestone leading Elkmont 7-0. Back here at Brawley Stadium. Florence leads it 21-7. Florence leads it 21-7. Scoring on the last play of the first quarter. And a beautiful play on fourth down and 20. Mahan scrambles out and the sophomore showed some moxie and found Kirkland blank for his first touchdown of the season, if I'm not mistaken. And a beautiful throw and catch. And Florence leads it by 14. That last drive was pretty impressive, John. It was really nice for the Falcons to get back on the board.
[1:39:04] It was eight plays, 80 yards total, four minutes, one second, time of possession. And, of course, the final play was a 30-yard touchdown pass. Jeffrey Jones, not only throwing catch, but how about blank knowing in presence of staying inbounds? I'm so proud of blank. He stayed inbounds and he got open. That was a scramble. Now, I will say this, Hartzell's blitzes and their showing of blitzes and backing off has been – it's very impressive. Their defenses look very good. We haven't seen an organized defense like that this year that's showing and not coming.
Greenhall will kick it off, taking it at the four by Morrow, up to the 10, 15-20, and hit hard at the 20-yard line. He gets a head of steam going. Good to see him back in. Actually, I'll check it. It's Palachek that ran it back. And he was brought down by the Falcons at the 21-yard line. Jekyll and Jones on the tackle. Don't forget, tomorrow, Alabama-Texas A&M here on 93-9 The Score. 11-30 pregame, 2-30 kickoff. It's the Crimson Tide. Tries to bounce back from that tough loss at Tennessee.
You'll hear the Crimson Tide football here on 93-9 The Score. So, Falcons and Tigers flip fields as Florence scored at the last play of the first quarter. So, 21 up in the first quarter to lead at 21-7. Amos, the quarterback, quick snap, gets it southern off the right side. Hit at the 23, and that's Irons that brings him down after a gain of three. Sistruck came up to try to get him, but he spun by him. But Irons cleaned it up after a gain of three. Second down, and we'll call it – give him four, actually.
Second down, and, well, he got three yards. That's right. Second down, seven. It's a great job by Irons to just wrap him up there and keep driving his legs, pushing him back. Southern's a definite strong back back there, and for Irons to drive him backwards there was definite strength play. Weathers and Dixon wide receivers back to pass looking. Amos out to his running back, Southern, out on the sideline, 25-30, knocked out of bounds at the 31. That's enough to move the chains. That's a good throw and catch there.
David Amos is impressive as a senior. He's got a strong arm. He definitely does, and getting those balls out to the sideline is definitely tough, especially at the high school level. And he's whipping that ball out there beautifully. Jeffrey Jones, after this play, if we can, I'm going to come to you and talk about this Hartzell baseball program has had a big impact. And that might be one reason we see some of these players with confidence. First and ten for the Tigers. Amos looks to throw again.
Quick screen. Got out to Palachek to the 33-35. And he's close to another first down in game nine down to the 40-yard line. This Hartzell team has won some state championships in other games. They're not going to back away. Yeah, Coach Booth over at Hartzell, you know, he started that program, or he improved that program. Quite impressive. The best in the state, you know, as far as since 1993. We played them in 93, and they were number seven in the nation when we played them. So, they've moved some of that success to the football field as well.
Great athletes all around. I would not be surprised if Amos is one of the pitchers on the team, too. Because I know Priola, I think, has played some, too. So many state championships on that wall over there in that baseball facility. Yep. First and ten, they're going to give it up the middle and got a little runner and tripped up of Southern at the 43. He'd get about four to the 45. But the Tigers' offense, Mike, has shown that they can mix it up a little bit. And they're going to be an offense we're going to have to watch here.
Oh, definitely. I mean, we knew that we were going to be in for a contest here. And they're definitely mixing and matching. They're able to throw the ball and run the ball. Nice little mix. You really got to be on your toes here. Second down and five at the 45. Amos, the quarterback, wants to throw. Looks right. Has time. Steps in the pocket down the middle of the field. Double coverage out there. And he overthrows everybody. Incomplete. That was better coverage. Landon Rayner stayed with it at safety.
And a nice job helping out there with Des Brown. That was a good job by the Falcon pass rush there to really rush that play. He wasn't ready to really throw that one. But he had to – that pocket was closing in on him. He had to release it quick. Triolo, the 6'6 wide receiver, will come wide left. Des Brown will have to take care of him. Two to the right. Three-man front for Florence on this third and six play for Amos, the quarterback. Watch for the screen here of the draw play.
At tailback right now is E.J. Muhammad. Play clock at 10. And Hartzell sort of changing the play here as the Falcon crowd comes to life a little bit. Still down to five. Falcon's dancing around. Back to pass. Looking left. Looking across the middle now. Throwing. And he's incomplete. He had a 6'6 receiver. He thought he was going to sit down. But he kept running. He threw it behind him. And Florence catches a break. And it's fourth down. That was a good job by Jaden White coming right up the gut.
That was really a reason why that ball sailed high. He was trying to get it over Jaden. And, you know, just quick snap, quick punt. That's what they like to do. And they'll bounce at the 25 and inside the 20. Down at the 14-yard line. Never seen a special teams team in my life get out on the field as fast as they do. I'm talking about they bring about nine guys in. And it's impressive. It certainly is. And that's just a sign of a well-coached team being able to take advantage of little things like that.
[1:44:10] Falcons weren't really able to set up a return there at all. And they got pinned inside the 15 now, which, you know, really flipped the field there for Hartzell playing that field position battle at this point. Just a reminder, next week's game, Thursday night, not a Friday night, but Thursday night on the road. That game's been moved up to Thursday night, Florence at Fort Payne. Falcons lead it here, 21-7 with 9.52 to go. Kayon Williams, the tailback and pistol formation behind the quarterback, main hand from the 14. Three wide receivers to the left.
Going to get with Kayon, bounce up the middle, hit at the 15, gets about two to the 16-yard line. Tripped up there in the middle by one of the best defenders, Holland Hurley. Hurley stands out, John, on film. He is a really good linebacker there. Yeah, he's got, I think, two years prior to this, he was a starter, started an outside linebacker. They've had some all-state middle linebackers. He kind of bounced over. And as I said in the pregame, he's the most natural, fluid middle linebacker we've faced all year.
Second down and eight to go. Hartzell jumping around on defense. Again, he's been living with Williams. Williams has nowhere to go this time. He gets maybe back a yard or two as the defender was sitting there waiting on him to set the edge. It was Dalton Terry, who said, no, we're not going to let you go, Mr. Williams. And it brings up third down. And also, you see this Hartzell team, they'll substitute three or four defenders at a time. John talked about that in pregame, Mike.
They will get a lot of fresh legs in there. Yeah, and they're a well-coached team, so it's not a huge drop-off. We've already talked about their athleticism. on many aspects of this team. So, you know, they're just a solid program through and through. And being able to get those guys rotated in and having that next man up is important. Morrison May's wide right, two to the left. Now, nobody in the backfield is, blitz is coming. And Mayhem's in trouble and is going to take a sack back at the 14.
He didn't have anywhere to go. His feet were being covered. He couldn't move. And he said, I'm not going to throw it away. And he just takes the sack. And Florence will have to punt it away. I will say this. Sometimes it's the right time to take a sack. And maybe right there he didn't do a carpool. Go ahead and take it and get him punted away. No, that was absolutely the right thing. He didn't have anything going. His feet were out from under him. There was a guy laying at his shoelaces.
And so, he just took that snap. So, they got nine on the line of scrimmage. They're going to come after the punt. Pressure coming up the middle. Greenhawk gets away. But it's a low-line drive punt taken at the 42 to the 40. Bounces away and goes down to the 38-yard line. That's Dixon. But great field position for the Tigers who forced a short punt of about 30 yards and get good field position at the 38. Right now, Jeffrey Jones, this one's far from over. This one has just begun. And we're going to have to keep our foot on the gas here.
These guys are – this is the type team, they're well-disciplined, and they're not going to give up. It's going to be a fight throughout. Remember, this is a Hartzell team that led Austin 21-3 going into the fourth quarter. They got a deep playbook, too, you can tell. Three wide receivers, one back in the backfield for the quarterback. Amos going to leave it with his tailback. No, he's going to throw the quick out. Incomplete. He fooled me, but he fooled Palachek, too, who was trying to catch it.
A little rough play right there trying to get Palachek, and that's what it is, isn't it, John? You know, Kevin, that play seems like pass interference, but when you throw it behind the line of scrimmage, you can block beforehand, and that's what they're trying to take advantage of. It's a West Coast type play is what I call it. It's what we used to say. When you throw it behind the line of scrimmage and get those blockers. It's cheating is what a defender calls it. It's a linebacker, boy.
You can hear it in his voice there. That's not fair. That's right. Southern's the tailback. Now Priola will go at quarterback. He's a running quarterback. You've got to know that. Second-out play. He wanted to roll right. He's got plenty of running in the room, but he throws it instead, and it's complete at the 23-yard line, 27-yard line, and enough for a first down. Six-foot-six. He can see the field quite well, and he had plenty of room, but he fires the pass and completes it to Weathers, and that will move the chains.
Kevin, he is like a wildcat quarterback on film. Despite his six-foot-six frame, he is able to – he's really athletic. He's able to get out to the edge and kind of open up those long strides. Naeemus back in at quarterback now on the first down play. Leaves it inside with the tailback, and that's Southern who spins far across the 20 down to the 19. Mike, right now this Falcon team looks a little winded on defense, but a flag on the play. Yes, they do look a little winded on defense.
I want to highlight the last two special teams plays there by Hartzell. The quick punt, getting the Falcons within the 15-yard line, then their punt rush, forcing a low-line drive punt there, and whatever. Their job on those last two plays, that phase of the game, is giving them this field position for this thing. So if this turns into points, hang that on the special teams there. All four of us are talking about how well coached this Hartzell team is. It's hard to believe they're not in the playoffs.
It tells you how good this region is. At the 36-yard line, after the holding penalty, it'll be first and 20 for the Tigers. They have three wide out, one back in the backfield for Amos, the quarterback. Amos wants to pass. Pressure comes, he steps in the pocket, throws down the middle of the field, and through the hands of a six-foot-six receiver. It was high. The defender was there, but the only one that could have caught it was Priola, but he dropped it. He dropped it. That's exactly it.
[1:49:33] Really, if you ask him, he should have caught that ball. You expect that ball to be caught, and he would have been within the 10-yard line there, really knocking on the door of a touchdown. I'll be honest. I'm a little surprised if we haven't had more pressure on the quarterback. They have done a great job picking up the pressure. Second down and 20. Going to play action, roll right. Amos wants to throw. Throws to the sideline. It's caught right at the stakes. Breaks forward to the 20, to the 15.
Hamid had the first down. Florence missed tackles, and they missed tackles twice. And Priola, the 6-6 receiver, will get 20 on the play and move the chains down to the Florence 15. You know, if you're going to give them a buffer and you're going to give them that much space, you've got to wrap them up at that point. You can't miss tackles, and they missed two big tackles there. So, if you're going to play soft, you've got to wrap those guys up. All men, I'm all with Hartzell now.
First and 10, going to lead with his tail, but no quarterback going to keep him on a busted play. He'll move forward for about a yard, and that's it. And Florence will wrap him up there at the 14-yard line. 6-35 and counting. Florence leaves at 21-7, but Hartzell knocking on the door. Update on that Russell game, by the way. Russell kicked a field goal to take a 10-6 lead with 6-17 to go in a second. That was a few minutes ago. Here, Florence up by 14, but Hartzell trying to cut into the lead.
Three wide receivers, Priolo wide right. You know the quarterback, Amos, loves him. Four-man front for Florence. Going to lead with the tail back up the middle. It up, wants to pass. Jump, pass down the middle, and a good defense by Florence there. They were there with him, and that time Jaden White got a hold of Amos and hit him right as he threw it, and Amos is still feeling a little bit there. Jaden White is starting to really come alive in this second quarter. You're really seeing him in the quarterback's face each and every play in that backfield.
Third and nine at the 14 with 6-09 to go. Priolo wide right. I wouldn't be surprised to see a jump ball here to the right side, especially with the accuracy of Amos. Southerns the tailback with the quarterback, Amos. Two wide outs to the left. Third and nine. Falcon big blue band trying to distract. Back to pass. Looks left. Throws to the left side, and it's incomplete. Batted way at the line of scrimmage. It'll bring up fourth down. I'm not sure who got it, Mike, but somebody got a big paw on it.
I believe that was in the ballpark of Nate Pride there. He was kind of jumping up and down, but Austin Klossbach was also in that area as well. They're going to attempt a field goal from 31 yards. Jeffrey Jones down by 14. I would be alert to anything here. They have nothing to do. They can roll the dodge. Oh, and they're capable of doing it all. I'm sure they've got a great fake. They've probably got a great kicker, too, right here. Hudson Morton is the holder. The kick is on the way.
It's not going to get there, I don't think. Yep. He missed it wide right. No good. Lots of pressure up the middle, and you missed the kick, and the Florence defense holds with 6.02 to go. Florence leads at 21-7, and that's a big stop for Florence there, Mike. That was a big stop and a big miss there. It was very strange watching it. It looked like the kicker was very nonchalant about kicking it. There wasn't really any energy towards the ball. It was kind of like slow motion almost.
It was not the technique I'm used to. I will say this, and all of us have talked about it. Guys, this may be the best special teams team I've seen in a while. The way they do things, it's different, but they know their weaknesses. They know their strengths, and they do it with hustle. It's a well-coached team. Johnson, the tailback, with the quarterback, Mahan, on this first and 10 play at the 20-yard line. Five-man front for Hartzell. Going to lead with Johnson off the right side. Cuts, caught up to the 25, and he stays on his feet, pushed forward, and he gets down at the 27.
Well, Kevin, you touched on something very important right there. You said the word hustle. And you know what hustle never does? Hustle never slumps. Yeah. You know, when you're giving 100% energy and effort on each and every play, you're going to have a lot of good things happen. And so Hartzell does not lose for a lack of effort, that's for sure. Remind us of the two teams in the World Series go to the baseball side, too. Two teams that hustle a lot. We'll talk about that at halftime.
Second down and three for the Falcons at their own 27. Blank will move to one side now. Going to leave it with Johnson again. Blitz coming. Breaks at 30. 35 stays on his feet. Watch out. Goose and sleuths. 40, 45, 52 men chasing. Finally catch him down in Harsall territory. Push him out of bounds at the 40-yard line. Oh, DeCarson Johnson, if he hadn't tripped, he would have been gone. But he gets about 30 right there. You can see the adjustment made by DeCarson Johnson as well. Just the way he's carrying the ball this week.
He's holding it high and tight to his chest. He definitely was holding it there. And, you know, after all of that, all that contact, he still stayed on his feet. He was just driven out of bounds there. So, that was a great effort play there by DeCarson Johnson. Trip Reid on the touchdown-saving tackle. Florence in Harsall territory at the 40. Johnson stays in there. This time, give it to him again off the right side. Follows his block to the 40, to the 38. He'll get about three there. He was patient on the run.
Brought down there by Rafer Jones. Brings up second down. We'll call it seven. Jeffrey Jones, we've talked about this Harsall team. They're showing everything. They're bringing everybody from everywhere at certain times. You know, you can't trust them because, when they come up on the line, you don't know if they're coming or not. They've done a very good job of disguising what they're doing. And they wait to the perfect time. You know, it's very impressive. They've really calculated this out. They're good. Those sneaky Tigers from Harsall.
[1:54:55] You've got to watch them there. Second down and five after the five-yard game. Pistol formation. Kayon Williams now is the tailback. Locked the hottest to the tight end. Going to go left with Williams. Cut it back in the middle. Pushes forward. Got about three or four. That's a tough run. That one won't show up on the books much. But that's a great three-yard run right there by the sophomore. Yes, that was a great run. Being able to hit the hole with tremendous speed and effort. Good job blocking there by the Falcons.
But, you know, just like anything else, Harsall did a good job cleaning up those gaps. Update from Russellville. They now lead Austin 17-6 late in the first half. Here, Florence up 21-7 with four minutes to go. Third, and we'll call it a short two. Falcons have to touch the 30 to get the first down. Johnson and Kayon Williams both in the backfield. We're under four minutes to go in the first half. Mayhand, the quarterback, against this 3-3 defense. Blank in motion. Going to look to keep it himself as Mayhand.
Pushes forward and gets about one, but he's going to be about a yard short to the 31. Kenny Marson says first down, but I think more than that, Kenny Marson is saying we're going for it. No, we're definitely going for it. We're just a little short of that one, and just being able to get this one across that 30-yard line is going to be important. Johnson will be in. Under center is Mayhand on the fourth and inches. And the Falcons may have jumped, and they did. That's five yards against Florence.
Early jump right there will cost the Falcons, and now the head would have had the first down. Oh, and that hurts because maybe the one that jumped offside didn't need to even think about it on a quarterback sneak. No, probably not. And, you know, it definitely backs us up there, making it a much more difficult situation. Different play call for sure. Now at the 36, the Florence Falcons have to touch the 30. Clock at three minutes and change. When we snap, it will be under three minutes. Lean at 21-7.
But, boy, you would love to get this drive and continue it on if you're Florence. Under center is Mayhand. Two wide outs on display on the fourth down play. Gillespie comes into the tight. And they're trying to get the Tigers to jump. Didn't get the call. Kenny Marston's going to let it go down and call his final timeout. And we'll do the same. Florence leads at 21-7. Falcon football is back in 30. Getting the kids to practice on time. Remembering if it's your day to bring snacks.
Making it to the game with a clean jersey. Why are simple things sometimes so complicated? Thankfully, with auto owners, insurance doesn't have to be one of them. The voice of the Florence High School Falcons.
WYTK-FM. Rogersville. Athens. Decatur. The Shoals. 93-9. The Score. Back here at Brawley Stadium with 2.46 to go in the half. Florence holds on to a 21-7 lead over Hartzell in the final region game of Class 5A Region 7 for the 20-26 season. Goolsby and Mays wide to the left in a bunch formation. Green wide right. Shotgun formation. Going to look to roll right. Look to throw. Now he's going to run. Man, can he get it to the 30-yard line? He's got the first down depending on the mark.
He'll mark him at the 30 and that should be enough for him to move the chain. Boy, he almost went out of bounds too early, but it's enough for a first down. Woo! That was close. He knew where he needed to get. Colston's a heady player. He was able to get to the yard line, the yard marker that he needed to and got out of bounds without incident or taking a big hit there. Jeffrey Jones, it was smart of him not to throw it either. He knew he could get it that time with his legs.
He did. He was calculated and he knew exactly where to get to. They had told him to get to the 30 and he got to the 30 and one inch in the line. It was close, but he got it. First and 10 for the Falcons. Johnson at the tailback. He's going to get it off the right side and hit in the backfield. He's going to try to break free, but he's going to hit about two or three more and go down. No room that side on the right side.
DeCarson did a good job there. He really shrugged off some tackles there, had some guys hanging from his waist, but he wound up getting tackled right back at the line of scrimmage. Good to have Heath Harmon, the executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association with us here, right behind us watching the last few minutes of this first half. He'll be our halftime guest. Second down and 10 for the Falcons at the 30-yard line. The tailback is to Carson Johnson. Two odd receivers. 3-3 stack defense.
They're moving our hearts. Going to play action. Look to throw. Can he have time? Rolling left. Now he's going to run for it. I don't know. He's in trouble. Mahan looks. Got away. Stays on his feet. Got yardage and knocked out of bounds around the 28. He actually stepped out of bounds. What would have been a sack or something bad ended up to be a two-yard gain, and it brings us to second down and third. Is it third down? Yep. Third down for the Falcons and eight to go with 146 as he went out of bounds.
[2:00:17] He rolled out to a difficult side to deliver the ball downfield, and really, all of the routes were going the opposite way. It was an impossible throw for him to make, so just the fact that he was able to make something out of nothing there was quite impressive. Third and eight at the 28. Four down territory for the Falcons. Six men up in the box for Hartzell. Johnson's the tailback with Mayhem the quarterback. Tiger show blitz. Play action. Throws a quick screen. Complete at the 30 and brought down at the 30.
Great open field tackle by the Tigers there. They read that when he made the play. Matt Crowe on the play at cornerback, and it brings up fourth and 10 with a minute 30 and counting. Interesting, Hartzell didn't use the timeout. So Florence, no timeouts left can run it down and go for it here from the 32-yard line. It would be a 49-yarder and again, just outside the range I think of Greenhall, and you're up 21-7. I'm not taking a shot for the first down here. I'm taking a shot to the end zone here.
Let's see what Coach Kenny Marson and Coach McGuire will draw up. Four wideouts for Mayhem. Play action. Before the snap, somebody moved a whistle. Across the way, it might have been timeout by Hartzell. It's a false start on the Falcons is what they're indicating. Okay, so it was a false start on the far left side. So the offense now would make it even tougher. What was going to be fourth and 12 is fourth and 17. Now decision time for Kenny Marson with 37-yard line with a minute to go.
Do you kick it away? I'd say go for it still, don't you? Yeah, I mean, you're not going to gain much by kicking it unless you pin it inside the 10, but really you're just going to give yourself an opportunity to make a play here and possibly get some more points on the board. Green wide left, Goolsby in the slot. It's that shell defense for Hartzell. They bring the blitz back to pass. Falcons pick up the blitz, step up, Mahan down the sideline, has a man out there but overthrew Green just by a smidgen and they'll bring up a turnover on downs and give it back to Hartzell with 42.2 on the clock and the Tigers will have a couple of timeouts in their back pocket.
All three of them actually had a chance to go down and try to cut into this lead of Florence at 21-7. Yeah, it was a little unfortunate. We had plenty of time on the play clock still being able to run that back. 42 seconds, I would really like it down in the 30 somewhere to be able to give them the ball back unfortunately. 42 seconds and some timeouts left. They've got an opportunity to move this ball down the field. Two wideouts right including the 6'6 Priola who just stands out wherever he is.
Now they have four wideouts, one back in the backfield, three-man front for Florence from the 36. Amos is the quarterback. Straight drop. Looks right. Throws it. Priola caught it. Knocked down immediately at the 37. He fumbled it. So incomplete, they said. It came out. Oh, Jaden Irons was over there again. I think and some others. Jaden Irons has scooped and scored all season long. It's been a while. He was looking for one right there. Yeah, he was missing that end zone a little bit. You could see he had visions for sure.
For a linebacker to have four touchdowns on the season, that's unheard of. Second down and 10 for the Tigers. Wearing their road white with red helmets. Going to give it inside and boy, he's hit at the line of scrimmage. Jaden White went through a double team, took the running back, pushed him back and said no, no, no, no gain. You're starting to see Jaden White really assert himself and really peak at the right time. He's really taking control in this second quarter. He's made some big plays.
And I think Burt Newton Hartzell may just let this one roll out. They may run one more play down 21-7 at the 37-yard line. If anything, you throw the home run here, but they may not even snap it. We'll see. Nope. And it's one more play. Back to pass. Steps up in the pocket this time. Tripped and fell down. And he goes down. And that was again Jaden White on the play. And what a way to end the half. Not a bad job for Florence as the Falcons will jog into the locker room leading it 21-7 in the Falcon crowd here on their feet thanking the Falcons for a great first half as Florence leads Hartzell 21-7 when we come back.

And we're joined now by a very special guest we're honored to have here with us tonight in Florence, Alabama the Alabama High School Athletic Association Executive Director Heath Harmon.
Mr. Harmon nice to meet you my friend. Nice to meet you. It's good to have you with us and welcome to Florence, Alabama Brawley Stadium first time here in a while I'm sure but what's your take on it so far? First time here in a while I have not been here since all of the renovations all the branding this is an absolutely beautiful facility on a beautiful night and just very impressive. Of course you're aware of Coach Myra Miles the Hall of Famer that's now our athletic director you would think of nothing less from her putting this together you can see that in her fingerprint here and I'm sure they've taken well care of you today and that's great to have you as we speak with Heath Harmon the AHSA Executive Director you and your staff you have a big job over 400 schools and then not even counting the junior high schools it is a lot for you and your staff to cover the state of Alabama.
It is a lot of schools 425 high schools around 333 middle schools so it's a lot a lot going on on any given night but that represents a lot of opportunities for kids and so we're excited to do it and it is all about the kids that's the big thing about student athletes that's why you're into this that's why everybody does this correct? That's correct you know and I can't talk enough about education based athletics the way we do it it's connected to a school that has an educational mission you know just down the hall here you've got your students doing their broadcast walk down there and got to hang out with them for a minute and so really with education based athletics you know it's an opportunity to bring the community together you look at what's happening here tonight band cheerleaders football team fans the community is coming together to a beautiful facility to support their school and that's a really special thing speaking with Heath Harmon the HSA executive director Mr. Harmon one of the things is the job that you've taken is probably a top 10 profile job in the state of Alabama it's a high profile job what drew you to it what made you say I want that challenge to be a part of that well graduating college I went into education I consider myself to be an educator but went into it to coach and I enjoyed teaching as much as I did the coaching but it offered so much for me when I played in high school and so the opportunity to coach and then I got into administration and when this job came open you know the opportunity to get into athletic administration and try to pay back some of the things that meant so much to me that was just a great opportunity alright let's go back to your old high school days now where did you play high school football what position and do you remember your senior night by any chance I certainly do so I'm a proud graduate of Mutford High School in Talladega County I'm a Mutford line so yeah I do remember senior night I was blessed to be a part of a school and a school system that really pinched every penny to try to give us what we needed both in the classroom and in athletics and we were taught to leave places better than we found it we were taught to give our best and compete and that has served me well in every venue I've been in since then so I owe a lot to my coaches and my school community from high school alright got another question for you who was a coach that impacted your life whether it be high school or college which one maybe said this coach really had an impact on my life yeah I had so many you know it's really hard to say because as as a player you know I had great coaches and then and when I went to college you know being around being around some really good coaches so that's really that's really hard hard to say so many I think for me I was blessed to be in so many situations where coaches coaches not only looked at the athletic ability of the players and certainly me but looked at things like showing up on time and being where you were supposed to be doing what you were supposed to be doing and because they fed into that I felt like that's something I might could feed into others so those type opportunities to teach people those skills that translate beyond intelligence and athletic ability and help you be successful that's why we are lucky to have you as the AHSA executive director because I think a coach's heart always understands it's about helping young men become men and young ladies become women and grow them in every aspect of their life I want to ask you too you jumped into this and right immediately said hey there's some things I want to change and you didn't hold back and one of the things was reclassification that was something that's been talked about for years and years and you said let's push the button and do it how has it gone so far and from what I hear personally it's been a success but how do you feel like things have gone early on yeah well classification is one of the biggest things that the association does that impacts fair play and so with classification we do it every two years and it's always going to end up with people that feel like they're really pleased with where they landed or maybe not so much so with the historic classification we had last year with public and private schools being in their own championship pathway I think that's vastly different from what we've done in the past so I think there's things that are going well I think as anything you look at it and you see where you might could tweak some things and the good thing about classification is you do it every two years but it is a tremendous responsibility of the athletic association it does impact fair play and so many of the things that we're trying to accomplish with our purpose so I think things are going well and we're getting into volleyball championships next week will be our state volleyball championships which will be our first state championship and then we'll be right into football playoffs and cross country and swim and dive and all of our fall sports are flag football which is nationally the fastest growing sport in our nation and I don't know if anybody's had a chance to go watch flag football but the quality of play at flag football in Alabama is impressive especially the quarterback play that's what blows me away when I go and watch just the quarterback play it is impressive we have a pretty good one at Florence High School our first year and actually we will travel to Northside Monday to take on them the first round of the playoffs at 4pm to our Falcon fans but yeah it is impressive and that is a fast growing sport and you got the key is getting as many students into athletics and it starts with coaches it starts with athletic directors your communication with them is so important and for your team to communicate with them as well that's right and if you see what you see here tonight in Florence is you see a lot of support this doesn't happen by accident a facility that looks like this just the end game things that you have going on the kick for chicken and all the different things that you got going on is it doesn't happen by accident and it just shows that you're invested in your community and your young people in your school and that's a really big deal as a former player as a former coach now you're the executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association on a Friday night does the Friday night light still give you a little bit of chill bumps when you come up and see the stadium a little they do that's one of my favorite things to do in this job is throughout the year travel around we have phenomenal people schools communities that are just pouring into our young people and I think that's the strength of this state if I would tell people what I have been able to see firsthand throughout this whole state is just outstanding people who are wanting to invest in the lives of young people or wanting to feed into schools or wanting to feed into communities and it's happening we always have things we can work on we always have things we can get better but we get it right in Alabama we are one of the most respected high school athletic associations in the nation I don't know if everybody knows that I know that because I get the opportunity to be around all the other executive directors really about four times a year and they all come up to me and say some of the same things about our championships and the way we do things and really for years our association has been a model for the nation we have a lot to be proud of like I said we always got things we can work on but just want everybody to know that I would say the people is really the strength of our high school athletics well we are so honored to have you with us not here in Florence Alabama at Brawley Stadium we can tell you a lot of stories on Alvin Briggs I personally could tell you a ton of stories on the former executive director but one of my good friends but we are so glad you're in this position and we wish you nothing but the best and listen if you don't mind do us a favor keep one of those blue maps and red maps ready for us we're coming after them okay we're coming after them hopefully soon okay it's good to have the executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Heath Harmon with us Mr. Harmon thank you for being a guest and please come back to Florence any time thanks for having and we wish Coach Morrison and the team good luck to you in your season back here on 93.9 the score Kevin Johnson and the crew with you on the TNT Fireworks halftime show where Florence leads Hartzell 21-7 thank goodness I wrote it down because the scoreboard is empty they put the they put the band up there which I like the video but it's pretty cool how they do that with so much technology today it's good to see them do that and it was also very nice to have the executive director of the HSA with us Heath Harmon who was very impressive and Mike you know you and I have done this for many years I think it's the first time we've ever had the HSA director come here other than Coach Briggs who had reasons to come here obviously we knew that so it's pretty impressive he made the trip up here oh absolutely you know any time that you know you get it the executive director of anything is definitely special but that I-20 corridor definitely gets a lot of attention over the course of time and so us nestled in the upper corner here it's not an easy place to always get to but to take the time energy and effort to get out here is definitely appreciated and really shows that the HSA is for all of its members half-time stats brought to us by our friends at Chick-fil-A who had a no good on the kick opportunity for kicking for chicken but that's okay they've done a good job of that this season and we'll go to John McDaniel for our half-time stats yeah I just want to say Mike that's well said we appreciate that the executive director is here and he had to pass a lot of schools to get up to get to our facility tonight and we appreciate that we'll start tonight on the stats with the visiting Tigers Hartzell in the first half 143 yards of offense they had 15 yards rushing and they had 128 yards passing they had 8 completions on 17 attempts though 15 rushing yards were on 11 carries they were 7 they had 7 first downs in the half they were 0 for 5 on 3rd down conversion and did not try a 4th down attempt 3 penalties for 30 yards no turnovers 1 for 1 on their PATs and their time of possession 8 minutes 31 seconds the Falcons in the half 270 yards of offense we had 188 yards rushing on 21 carries we had 82 yards passing 8 8 completions on 11 attempts probably our best completion percentage for a half this season 12 first downs in the half 2 for 6 on 3rd down conversions and 2 for 3 on 4th down 4th down 5 penalties for 33 yards also no turnovers in the half 3 for 3 on our PATs and our time of possession nearly double 15 minutes 29 seconds a couple of standouts in the first half Carson Mahan 8 for 11 82 yards and a touchdown to Carson Johnson he has 8 carries for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns and Kion he has 8 carries for 117 yards hadn't quite got to the end zone yet but I think I have a feeling that's coming Florence leads at 21 7 and they jumped out early scoring on the second play of the game for offense after the defense did their job it was Johnson going 8 yards after Kion Williams had had a 60 something yard run and he went in 8 yards made it 7-0 as Greenhall was right on all his extra points to cap the two play 75 yard drive with 928 to go in the first it didn't take long for Florence to answer again they come back again this time Johnson on another big run this one 17 yards untouched the extra point was good to cap a 75 yard drive for Florence and Falcons led at 14-0 Hartzell answered back with three big plays to get into the end zone finally a four play drive 80 yards it was Southern going in from three yards out and the lead was 14-7 but just before the last play of the first quarter actually on fourth down and 20 Mayhem scrambled left throws it towards the end zone and Kirkland blank the tight end goes up catches it at the two goes into the end zone for a 30 yard score Greenhall once again PAT good 21-7 at the end of one and believe it or not it's 21-7 here at the half there's no scoring there in the second quarter Mike your assessment though early on the first half I nice little wake up call for them and they executed some things in the air and on the ground nicely through the offense the defense the secondary got burned a couple of times a couple penalties in the secondary and things like that but for the most part that front seven has done a pretty good job and this Hartzell team is well coached it really is so just being able to have a nice solid half of football so far but we play four quarters in this region so we've got another half of football to go and to close this out in an impressive fashion would be definitely in order for the Falcons and John I that's usually a big stat in high school football you know sometimes you don't even realize that you're that tired but when these guys get back out for this for the start of the third quarter you know that time especially for defensive and offensive linemen those extra plays start to add up very quickly and those guys have a hard time recovering once they get tired it's very tough for those to get their second win and it could be a factor late in the fourth for the Falcons guys let's talk about college football we only have a few minutes here before they get ready about two minutes but last week was just shockers everywhere have I been going to microphone the Auburn marching band so Kevin if y'all didn't know he's big here in the marching bands he doesn't really necessarily love the DJs there's been some criticism the last couple weeks for Auburn the DJ overplaying the band I'm going to take the Auburn Tigers tomorrow and it's just because we're riding the wave of momentum from last week it would be a huge length they could get it John what do you think I think obviously everyone was surprised about what happened I don't know who Auburn is I really am not sure what I was watching I kind of wonder if that wasn't the worst thing that could have happened for this game I mean I'll I'll take Auburn at home I don't know that I think they'll win but I'll take them since it's going to be a classic Jordan hair crowd for that game Mike it's it's an 11 o'clock kick so it's not really going to up a team than Georgia they can score a lot of points but they're looking for their identity so each week it's just a flip of the coin but you know something just tells me that Auburn may pull this off and I but this time I'm only going to pick them by 80 against Texas A&M that would make a big difference what about it John I was disappointed obviously the team didn't show up and you hope every time when you watch a ball game that both teams come out play their best Texas A&M might be the only team that has less going for them than Alabama does right now they sounds like they are on the verge of firing a coach and that causes a lot of problems in the building so I will take the tie because of the confusion I've personally witnessed that at times and it makes it at the half Florence leads at 21 7 we're back after this 30 second time out 766 3131 we are proud to be a sponsor of Florence High School Athletics no representation is made that the quality of legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers back at Brawley Stadium the TNT fireworks halftime show comes to close third quarter action about to get underway Florence deferred at the coin toss Jeffrey Jones real quick who was the coin toss done by again one of our special needs students Mr.
[2:29:05] Mitchell I can't remember his first name I'm sorry I want to say Sherman but I'm not sure it seemed like it started this but we'll find out we'll find out we want to give him a shout I'll put you on the spot that's you said he won the opportunity to do that correct yes he did he earned the opportunity to do that that's great I really do think they could do that every week and it warmed the hearts he was so proud to be out there it was a great experience all around that's one of the best parts of the game I think other than senior night so it's neat to see here comes the hearts about to kick it off they had a penalty on the kickoff so they'll have to do it again Newton will have to kick it away back deep Kayon Williams and Gouldsby will stand around the 7 yard line Florence up 21-7 by the way update on that Russell game the Golden Tigers lead at 17-6 at the half over Austin they blocked a field goal to end the first half keeping pulling for the Golden Tigers good kick by Newton driving Williams all the way back at the 8 watch out he's got hoping that because he's pounding the ground he gets up okay that wasn't Williams excuse me check that was a blocker there so Williams is okay I was looking somewhere else but it was actually Martinez who got hit a little bit but he'll bring first and 10 for the Falcons at the 30 so Florence will have it first 10 to 30 DeCarson Johnson will be the tailback he will go out to be behind Cost Mahan two wide receivers for Mahan taking his time going to lead with Johnson off the left side cuts it back in the middle stays on his feet still trying to break forward to the 40 now he wants to cut back and just go down DeCarson had nothing but white jerseys all around him Kenny Morrison was begging for a flag there and I don't sure he got it he did not he was looking for a face mask there the guy got underneath the face mask more than actually grabbing the face mask so it did look awkward because his head got pulled back a little bit but yeah Falcon first down I can't tell you what a great 10 11 yard run that was for the first down he had to break a tackle right at the line of scrimmage and stayed on his feet two or three times to Carson Johnson first down play to Carson up the middle off the left side flag on the play gets across the 45 to the 47 but that's in the place of where you see holding and it was thrown from the side judge which you don't always see so let's wait and see what it is it was right in the area of the H-back where the H-back was pulling around and trying to get that edge I thought the side judge had done at first but it was actually thrown from the back judge was that a holding or a block in the back signal whatever it is it's going against the team in black and blue and Florence is walking backwards from the 42 it's minus 10 either way yeah that's a fair point block in the back it is so Florence will now have instead of second down and two they'll face first down and 18 at the 32 just underway in the third quarter 11-16 Florence leads at 21-7 this is a tough Hartzell team don't go away this is a tough game and a huge region game for Florence Williams in the tailback Kayon to the right of quarterback Mahan Kayon coming up going to throw across the middle complete to Kirkman caught it hit by two Tigers but he hangs on to it for a gain of eight at the 40 the sophomore pulls it in right between the chest of one and one and number 11 makes a big catch you know I can't tell but that almost looked like an RPO there where he had it in the belly of the running back and pulled it out and hit Kirkman right in the numbers there but it was a beautiful pitch and catch and great job by Kirkman to come through that traffic to make that play Kirkman Elliott Goolsby Haddock heard the wide receivers on the second down play in nine Williams Kayon to the left of the quarterback Mahan against the 3-3 now five-man front back to pass looking close the screen got it to Kayon and the boy he had nowhere to go they read that one lost yards back to the 37 that's great defense by the Tigers and once again the Tigers Hurley and others come up and make the tackle yeah the Tigers knew about that one right away it looked like it was set up right from the snap they were already in position I did like the screen call we haven't seen that this year really I did like the call it just didn't come to fruition but that's something we haven't seen so it's 3rd and 12 part of it was we missed a couple of blocks on some of our old linemen 3rd and 12 Falcons have to touch midfield to get a first down straight drop blitz coming looking across the middle and caught by Green somehow but he's knocked down at the 45 he's going to be about 5 yards short of the first down and the Falcons will have to punt it away so it'll be 4th and we'll call it 6 to go and Green Hall will punt it away and 2 safeties back deep for the Tigers on this 4th down and 6th play it'd be a great place to fake one here they've got 9 on the line of scrimmage but they will not back to Green Hall and he'll boot it away and just barely got it out of there good kick though driving all way back to the 19 looking to get outside and a good hold right there no call but finally they brought down to 24 as the Falcons defense played well on special teams and a great kick by Green Hall there yeah that was a line drive kick but he definitely was able to drive it further than that first time around and the coverage came in quick and caught by clean it up with a tackle the AHSAA scoreboard show tonight following our broadcast from 10 to midnight and James Moody and Blair Krieger will give you updates on the games throughout the shows area here on 93.9 the score that's the AHSAA scoreboard show from 10 to midnight here on 93.9 the score so the Tigers down by 14 they're not going away we'll have it first and 10 Priola I think at quarterback now with one got a little running room hit at the 27 and pushed as far to the 30 but a game of about seven right there that time a little more push up front by the Tigers don't like seeing that that was a big hole that Southern was able to drive through and got into that second layer of our defense Burski had to clean it up but after a seven yard game they bring in five wide outs no running backs Amos is the quarterback on the second down three play they may go for the home run here now they're bringing a guy in the backfield Southern will come to the backfield trying to draw the Falcons off sides on the second down three play take the play clock down to 10 Maddox Southern behind the quarterback David Amos Amos wants to pass now he's in trouble scramble around going to be in trouble chasing after him he gets away looking to run he's going to be hit brought down to the 30 oh and he was cleaned up at the end by the nose guard Jaden White who brought 285 pounds and a biscuit from Cracker Barrel go on top of him as you brought him down Jaden White in the beginning of that play really blew up that offensive line and really drove the quarterback to break out and to rush on the outside there and Jaden did not give up on that play and just cleaned it up at the very end just really a lot of mass third and four I great defense by Dez Brown got the left hand in there and knocked it away that's a tremendous play right there wow no no no flag so you know but I felt like he got there a little bit early to get around the big wide receiver like that he had to hook him in some way there's no way physically and once again the Tigers catch the Falcons napping on substitution Kenny Morrison if he could fire some people right now he would he's so mad I don't blame the head coach does not like it time out taken we'll do the same Falcon football back in can provide just the banking services you need we always root for the home team because we are the home team first Southern bank equal housing lender member FDIC back at Brawley Stadium where Florence leads at 21-7 Florence had to waste a timeout that's the first of this half Kenny Morrison will not be happy with that now the Tigers starting to shift trying to get the Falcons to jump high hanging kick fair catch being called and he catches it calmly at the 31-yard line my heart rate was racing a little bit as he backed up to catch it but the Falcons have it at the 31-yard line looks like don't forget tomorrow the Crimson Tide Texas A&M here on 93.9 the score 1130 pregame 230 kickoff for your home for Alabama Crimson Tide football 93.9 the score Florence up by 14 with 721 to go in the third quarter Mahan will bring Johnson out at tailback two tight in set two wide receivers to the left I'm going to leave it with Johnson off the right cuts it up in the middle nowhere to go spins out though gets outside to the 35 to the 37 and got eight out of nothing he was shut down for nothing and his legs will not stop he did a great job of spinning off one of the tackles and bouncing it to the outside and really caught the defense off guard they were kind of slowing down on that play thinking that he was wrapped up but being able to continue to turn his legs and get that positive yardage is huge second down and two at the 40 Mahan has one back in the backfield Johnson with him this time he's going to leave it up the left side cutting spinning got the first down to Johnson to the 45 and knock down there that'll be enough to move the chains and the Tigers are trying to hold Johnson up and maybe go for that football a lot tonight too we've seen that last week and they're seeing it again again film work doesn't lie right have the Carson continue to focus on hanging off to that football is big trip Morris wide left goes to the right watch for Morris here on this first and 10 play Johnson got by one to the 45 skips far to the 50 and finally brought down there right at midfield that's where they'll blow the whistle gain of about three or four he really has done a great job has Johnson of making the first man miss because Hartsell is bringing different guys from different places left and right and timing it well right they're being very sneaky and disguising where the rush is coming from so it's really important to continue to block and everything but DeCarson Johnson does a great job and has of making that first guy miss he'll come out of the game Jekyll and Williams will check in with Kayon Williams no relation that I understand on the second down sixth play man in motion will be Kayon throw Kayon out to the side and over his head and incomplete that may be a lateral let's see what they say and they are going to call it a lateral that absolutely was a lateral and that's where a young man did not go for the ball he wouldn't have got there it was fired out of bounds but it's a loss of about five but you always have to assume it's a live ball you always have to assume it's a live ball and you know that was just one of those where that ball was just zipped way I mean there was there was no real chance to catch that ball third and 12 Morris is one wide receiver along with Goolsby and Elliott Falcons at the 44 have to get to the Hartsell have to get to the 44 yard line of Hartsell I couldn't hear you Kevin what did you were saying that PA's so loud third and 12 two backs in the backfield Mahan strike drop looking has time this time steps throws going down the sideline but a missed route there miscommunication Mahan went for the long route wide receiver cut it off and it'll be fourth down that was not a great set of downs there we got about four or five yards on that first down and having that lateral go out of bounds it just threw off the rest of the set of downs there 545 to go after this punt I'm going to go to Jeffrey Jones on the sideline because right now this momentum is fighting for it he's going to make it here come the Tigers after the punt got to get rid of it and he just barely does Greenhall will let it hit inside the 30 they'll take a falcon roll down around the 20 yard line and bound to inside the 20 to the 18 we'll take the roll for about 12 right there and that'll be where the Tigers have it I believe first and 10 inside the 20 at the 18 and Jeffrey Jones it's halfway through the third quarter 534 to go we just feel like you better not keep playing with your food of your Florence this Harsel team can strike well it's lackadaisical on both sides right now the crowd is trying to stay in it but the band still hasn't gotten out there so the student section is a little quiet it's kind of a lackadaisical third quarter so far which isn't necessarily a bad thing but we're going to have to make sure we stay focused we're going to have to score again to get comfortable in this game I agree with that first and 10 at the 18 two wide receivers going to lead with the tailback up the middle he's got nowhere to go that falcon defense says no sir and it started with defensive line and I'll give you a guess who might have been right at the beginning of it a couple of falcons there but it'll end up being that D line that stopped at second down and no gain yeah that line up front is definitely doing a great job they're having an impact on each and every play as Hartzell snaps it he's got Jaden White is listed at 285 their center is listed at 240 so almost a 50 pound difference and White is really taking advantage of it second down 10 this time gonna lead with his back off the right side and again nowhere to go Falcon defense was there and said no no gain of one maybe two at the most they'll give him to the 20 Southern will get two on that but again is a sea of black and blue over that right side you feel like maybe this Tiger team about to set something up but it's third and eight this third and eight play is huge they're likely gonna have to go through the air they were stuffed on the first two big play here for the Falcon defense up by 14 want to get a stop here Amos straight drop pressure come got through it down the middle throws it and it's complete to Priola at the 43 he found a 6 foot 6 receiver there and that'll be enough to move the chains and watch out the quarterback gets hot with that big wide receiver Falcons could be in trouble yeah that was a nice pitch and catch there you know just looked very effortless by both quarterback and receiver just like like they were out in the schoolyard playing and you know the Falcons had had a decent enough coverage he was tackled right away but you know pretty easy play there for Hartzell at the 45 yard line not quite the midfield two wide receivers Morrow now will come out of the backfield to the right so empty set for Amos the quarterback wants to pass has time against the three man rush steps up to the left sideline goes up and great incompletion he almost brought it down it was over his head I thought he was going to bring it down but he just couldn't bring it in and Des Brown said no sir clipped his legs right when he went up yeah as he was going in the air it was one of those dangerous situations did a good job of wrapping him up and bringing him down making sure that that was not going to be a personal foul there Jeffrey Jones this quarterback Amos does a good job of throwing it to his big receiver high yeah he does throw it high sometimes a little bit too high but he's got a great arm too going to roll to his right looking to throw has time now throws to the middle of the field knocked down incomplete had a chance at the interception with Jekyll and Jones but couldn't bring it in tipped by Klotzbach there he's been all over the place this game he's really starting to show that he's really getting comfortable in that linebacker position really making a bunch of tackles but even in that passing game being able to knock down that pass is huge lights come on a little bit for Klotzbach tonight no doubt he's definitely getting involved in the game that's fun to see when a player really just takes the next step third and ten let's get this quarterback once on the ground third and ten right here Amos now checks the play backfield with him Falcon fans trying to make a little noise here back to pass looking left now he wants to throw down the middle now he's going to scramble has a man one-on-one out there and it is in caught down inside the ten at the nine great catch and throw that there Palachuk brings it in he had to turn around and reverse and look over his other shoulder and he brings it in our safety got caught looking back and the wide receiver snuck out behind them giving them just enough cushion to be able to make that catch that was a miscue there by our defensive backs first and goal at the ten what a throw by Amos and what a catch by Palachuk that was that was great adjustment by Palachuk while that ball was in the air that's not an easy catch at the ten shotgun formation southern is the tailback wants to pass throwing the jump ball over to the right side of it threw it out of bounds incomplete better job by Ja'Kylan Jones guarding right there on the six foot six Asa Priola Priola is a senior this is a senior laden Hartzell team by the way lots of seniors getting a lot of snaps second down and goal at the ten John I was just going to say I think actually Priola he is a junior he's got another year of eligibility he is a junior two to the left to the wide side the quarterback now is Priola he wants to roll to the right and run it trying to get outside and he's clipped right at the ten and brought down great job by Jones and Sistrunk to come up and make the play Jones cut him and set the edge a little bit and then Sistrunk did a good job of stringing it out no gain Jeffrey Jones on the sideline right in front of you that Falcon defense did their job there yeah they did they sure did they didn't let him turn up you know he took a pretty good lick over here on the sidelines too well executed string him out and he didn't have a chance Amos back in at quarterback the scrambling quarterback Falcons have yet to get a sack on him let's see if we can do it here straight drop has time steps up in the pocket wants to throw to the sideline wide open over through his receiver he had his big man open but he got too excited and he fired it about 10 yards above his head that's a tough throw on the run there you know as he's moving up field to get that ball to him he did put some zip on it and it sailed a little bit on him Newton will send in his kicking team to attempt a field goal which will be 27 yards with 242 to go in the third Florence leading at 21-7 from the right hash you need to know that the holder is Hudson Morton watch for anything here Morton gets the down kick is on the way and the kick is up and the kick is good new score it's Hartfield answers Falcons lead at 21-10 238 to go in the third Falcon football is back in 30 florence florence minutes 55 seconds but a 27 yard field goal brings the brings the Tigers to 21-10 they'll kick it off deep taken by Goolsby at the 5 Goolsby up the middle if he goes right he's got a hole he does 25 can he break it he can't got to the 27 the hole closed but he had a gap there for a minute just couldn't quite hit it quick enough and it'll be first and 10 for the Falcons at the 27 leading the 21-10 I know some people have asked me updates on the Russellville game the Tigers answered the Austin touchdown and Russellville leads it 24-12 with 5-28 to go in the third down in Russellville a win by Russellville and a win by Florence and Florence would be the region champions but the Falcons they have to hold on to a absolute tough Hartzell team right now I think there's kind of a long way to go in both games you better believe it three wide outs for the Falcons the back is Johnson need to get him on the outside a little bit maybe even a sweep look to throw across the middle got it Goolsby got a run room 45 down to the 50 cuts back stays on his feet to the 45 to the 40 looking to break a tackle 35 and trips up at the 33 Swope's got him or Goolsby would have been in the end zone great throw right there from Mahan to Goolsby great job great job on the throw there and as Goolsby was getting into the secondary there great vision to be able to cut it back outside make a guy kind of trip himself up and you know if he didn't get that shoestring tackle there he might be in for six great job by Goolsby let's talk about Kevante Green he was out leading blocking for that run handoff that's going to be Johnson against Spence across the 30 with a flag on the play at the 29 that one's going to come back Falcons staff knows that but a hold will be called against Falcons I believe are blocking the back again we'll see that's a hold against Florence Kenny Morrison pleading this case but hangs his head with 203 to go in the third and penalties have hurt Florence and drives this game a whole lot Florence scored 21 in the first quarter but haven't scored since that's going to be a key can they start overcoming these penalties well it's it's just some of that some of that sloppy play that's hurt them in certain drives but it hasn't hurt them throughout wins and losses they've gotten away with some of those things over the course of time but as you get deeper in the season in the playoffs you're not going to be able to get away with those things first and 10 first and 20 excuse me at the 39 pay the play action down the left sideline going for green he's got a step can he get it he brings it down at the 10 at the 5 he will score touchdown Florence Kevante Green with an acrobatic catch and he'll put the Falcons in the lead even a little more that was a great job there by Kevante Green that was an individual effort there Costin Mahan did a good job of throwing it up to where his guy can get it Kevante just a big strong wide receiver there just outmuscles everybody pulls that ball down with a little footwork takes it into the end zone for 41 yards Greenhall to attempt the PAT with 147 to go his kick on the way his kick is true once again Florence extends the lead to 28 to 10 Falcon football back in 30 this is Congressman Robert Adderholt serving the people of Alabama's 4th Congressional District is truly the honor of my life whether it's helping veterans get their benefits they've earned protecting Social Security keeping our rural hospitals open or bringing investment and opportunity to our district I'm focused on working hard and making a difference for the people I represent every single day I'd be honored to have your vote on November the 3rd I'm Robert Adderholt and I approve this message paid for by Adderholt for Congress New score at Brawley Stadium Florence goes up 28-10 that last drive from John McDaniel Kevin it was two plays 73 yards of course just 43 seconds touchdown was Carson Mahan 41 yards kick taken by the Tigers at the 10 up to the 20 at the 25 and Rayner draws him in right there along with a couple of other teammates pretty good coverage give the Falcons credit Mike throughout the year we've done a good job on kick coverage we certainly have you know just being able to work on that and really this defense flying around all over the field this is special teams doesn't get enough credit for the starting field position that the opposing team finds themselves in quite often Tigers will have three wide outs and now they may open up more down by 18 with 139 to go in the third Amos the quarterback will have Southern the tailback behind him LeMay is the tight end Priola wide left looks to give it to his tailback Southern following that big offensive line gets three or four but that's about it to the 28 yard line good job of the Falcons driving him back there Jeffrey Jones we don't talk about enough but this Falcon defense irons and Burski in the middle they've been pretty good on the inside linebackers we've been fortunate to have good linebacker play we've been missing Winkles a little bit at the linebacker position we've had some folks step up and very serviceable we're in good shape play action cross the I believe and knocked it down 98 has got a great job of putting it I'm pretty sure it was him he's done this for two years now he has that uncanny ability that internal clock of once he's getting that pass rush down he knows when to throw his hands up it's uncanny his ability to be able to do that third and seven for the Tigers they've got wide receivers everywhere play action here comes the pressure he'll step up in the pocket wants to throw across the middle incomplete great job there by the Falcons defense coming up making plays and that looked good for the Falcons Jalen Allred on the coverage Palachek was his intended receiver that time it was the Azariah Palachek who's 6'3 twin of Malachi Palachek and Tigers will have to punt it away and adjustment and it was a great job by the Falcons get on that high hanging kick Goolsby will just catch it at the 42 nice job by Goolsby making sure he makes the catch I'll give Newton credit he is a good part actually excuse me that was Priola punting on that one Priola with a great punt Kevin I punter here and they do he's a really good punter he's odd to see him at 6'6 isn't it Jeffrey Jones to see a punter that tall yeah it is you know he has some leverage though you know he can get his leg into it get those long legs and get a hold of one excuse me Kayon Williams in the game Kayon is going to get it off the right side and he's hit and brought down after a gain of about two to the 44 yard line under a minute to Kayon right up the middle nowhere to go and spins far and gets maybe two again to the 46 and that should do it for the first third quarter Florence leads Hartsell 28 to 10 this is Falcons football we're back in one minute at North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic our Shoals roots run deep we provide quick access and Florence will go towards the south end zone away from the scoreboard they have third and seven to go at the 46 and no backs in the backfield Mahan wants to throw Mahan is going to have to get rid of it he's not going to get rid of it he's going to be sacked the pressure came up the middle and boy I tell you what Costin Mahan really did a great job Mike of not fumbling the ball right there right he pulled his hand back to try and make a play there and wrapped it up right away because he saw that he was about to get hit and there were about three guys that converged on him at that point so just being able to protect the ball and hold on to it take the sack and be able to punt this one away Hartsell has 10 on the line of scrimmage good snap good protection barely got it away didn't have good protection actually going to be caught back at the 24 trying to work his way back around and great open field tackle by Elliott Nelson Elliott a wide receiver down there comes down and makes a huge hit right there yeah Nelson Elliott did a great job in coverage there just being able to do what it takes to help his team come away with a victory that's just who he is he'll do whatever it takes and great open field tackle there by the wide receiver Jeffrey Jones on the sideline that shield of three that's supposed to protect the punter would you tell them to hit the first guy that comes in next time they got through right there you know and the difference is they didn't come after the punter they went after the ball and so they came very close to getting it if you see somebody you hit him I was ready to call time out myself on that Amos back to pass for Hartzell steps up in the pocket now it's flushed out of the pocket he's going to run he throws it might have been past the line of scrimmage he throws it incomplete we'll take that for Florence to bring up second and ten no flag over across the way I don't believe they said he was just at the line of scrimmage I will say this about David Amos he is a heady little quarterback right there isn't he Mike he certainly is he's got some feet on him too he's able to run a little bit but that's the second or third time you've seen him just deliver a ball on full sprint second down and ten at the 27 for the Tigers of Hartzell three to the left looks to the throw left Amos now having trouble has to throw it up and over the intended receiver incomplete Palachek couldn't bring it in at the 39 couple of Falcons there but the pressure was coming that time from the Falcons let's check on Jaden White who's a little slow getting up yeah he's he's coming off he's he's jogging off under his own power but got got tripped up a little bit on the hit with the quarterback kind of kind of took a shot to the left I guarantee the first person to come check on him was Kenny Marson Kenny Marson knows where the meat and potatoes is and it starts with number 95 he's going to be all right second down or third down and ten looking left wanting to pass now he's in trouble throws to the right side and nobody's there except Falcons good to be a flag and it is for intentional grounding there was nobody over there except two Falcon players that's not intentional grounding they're going to be throwing that one on our guy on 99 did we hit him late yep did we knock him down oh yeah okay I did not see that we knocked him down on the five yard line can we ask about the intentional grounding too though Kevin I think he was outside of the pocket which would have made it he could have thrown the ball past the line of scrimmage no argument from the Florence staff just from the Florence broadcaster only on that one referee has to go all the way back to the six yard line pick up a flag not a smart play by Falcons there with 10 56 to go in the game you get the ball back in that situation that's a big turnover 28 to 10 Florence leads it but Hartzell will have it back at the 42 one wide receiver right one to the left two tight ends right one back in the backfield for the quarterback Priola Priola gets it to Southern hit at the line of scrimmage drags forward to about the 45 and that's it good job by the boys in black and blue there give you an update from Russellville the Golden Tigers lead Austin in the third quarter 31 to 12 so Florence right now in good position if they can hang on here and Russell can hang on to be the region champs at the 45 second down and eight got to take care of this one first still a lot of game left here Priola rolling to the left wanting to throw Priola hit as he throws down the sideline going one on one Brown went up and knocked it got up there and just did enough to distract it from Polachek and Polachek did it definitely pushed off there but Des stayed on the ball there and tried to make a play he stayed right there with it no flag obviously but just glad to see that one hit the turf because there was definitely separation with that push yeah I'll give I'll give the referee this one he was behind the receiver and I don't know that he actually could even see if that the arm was extended third and seven to go Amos back at quarterback Amos looks right rolls right now he's going to look to roll and throw down the sideline got a man out there but he overthrows him thank goodness he threw it because he had room to run he definitely had a had a first down enough space for a first down there and he just let it rip on the run that's I mean that's it's it's a hard throw to make when those quarterbacks are running especially full speed and and he just let that that one fly so Hartzell will go for it on fourth down at midfield that Russell I know the Falcons jumped all sides they did and the Falcons started running with them but the ball was never snapped and that's a five yard flag Jeffrey Jones that's just not fair is it I but I'm not sure could the flag be for sideline warning or sideline warning and so it'll be fourth down and two and now it'll make it much more manageable 50 yard line everybody they never put the hands on the ball that's the key the center never touched the ball now he's got his hands on the ball but nobody touched the ball and they started running off the field and Falcons ran across and once you go in the neutral zone hold on Kenny Kenny call time Kenny Morrison calls time out we'll do the same 10 minutes to go here in the game Florence leads at 28-10 we're back in 30 hey Falcon fans this is Keith Cypress Creek indoor range we know great defense starts up front and the Falcons start with Jaden Wyer defensive tackle voice the voice the voice of the Florence high school Falcons WYTK FM Rogersville Athens Decatur the Shoals 93.9 the score Raleigh Stadium on a gorgeous Friday night in October where else would you want to be good crowd here supporting the Florence Falcons it's fourth and two for Hartzell at the midfield Florence leads it 28 to 10 with 10-10 to go in the game and the Tigers will have the football at the 50 they have to touch the Falcons 48 a little trick play that got them a five-yard penalty against Florence worked well now they come but set everybody tight Amos is the quarterback back to pass rolling left wanting to throw now he's looking to roll he's going to be hit got away still trying to get away got the first down Amos got right to the 47 and that's going to be enough to move the chains he needed two and a half and he got two and a half he did not get a very good spot he did not get a friendly spot although I think it's still good enough it's a first down Jeffrey Jones the Falcon defense just had him right there but couldn't wrap him up he would have looked up he had a 6-6 receiver waving his arms he could have hit him but I kind of wish he would have thrown it he's been overthrowing that 6-6 receiver first and 10 at the 47 yard line going to leave with his tailback in the middle hit at the line of scrimmage bounced off of White only gets about one they'll give him to the 45 gain of two but Jaden White blew that up not the worst thing in the world for that first down that happened the clock is still running tick tick tick and we're running that little two yard gain there just this this is what we did in the fourth quarter against Russellville yep we ran they had they had a 7 7 plus minute drive that we just kept them on they were churning out 1 or 2 yards rolling right and the flag before that off all start against Hartzell 9-17 to go and that flag will move it back 5 yards but you're right Mike it was that whole you know basically you see the defense run the clock out and just keep everything in front don't give them any big chunk plays you know bend but don't break and really you know it took 7 minutes off the clock and that really sealed the game 2nd down and 13 back to midfield Falcon defense hasn't forced a turnover that I remember in this game I'll double check that I don't think so nobody in the backfield for the quarterback game is straight dropped throws to his running back outside to Southern got it at the 50 trying to get away from 1 and hit at the 48 gets about 5 back to the 48 yard line and the clock continues to run if he stayed in bounds that's the key right there that's Klotzbach again another big play on the outside one on one with the running back he's really having one of those breakout games 3rd and 8 at the 45 4 down territory for Hartzell trailing by 18 835 and counting Amos the quarterback Falcon fans really getting into it below us 4 wide receivers blitz coming they're coming after Amos he throws it across the middle nearly intercepted oh visions of 6 from Des Brown danced in his heads but the ball danced away to the ground it brings up 4th down for the Tigers yeah that was one of those balls they were bringing the house and he delivered the ball it was a little bit behind the receiver Des Brown was able to knock it down there man I'm impressed by this Hartzell offensive line protection Falcons have had a lot of chances of getting quarterbacks down we have barely touched this quarterback all game long give them credit 4th and 8 3 wide receivers left the big one the Priola is to the right Amos the quarterback straight drop taking his time steps in the pocket now he rolls to the right throws for Priola down the sideline 1-on-1 and he's incomplete no flags on the play and it brings up that'll be the Falcons football and listen to the Falcon crowd telling the Falcon defense thank you 8-17 to go and Falcon defense once again makes a big stop Jeffrey Jones it was close down that far sideline for Hartzell they've all been very close you know he's got such a great arm you know and he only thing he does he tries to throw it on the run a little bit too much you know if he'd plant his feet he wouldn't overthrow it as much but he's got a cannon for an arm we know that it's dangerous they can hit one of those any minute Carson Johnson the tailback from the 45 play action throws across the middle that time Gouldsby is hit boy that was dangerous that could have been bouncing around pinballing intercepted but instead it falls to the ground you know and yeah on a first down situation with 8 minutes to go let's run run the clock sometimes we get cute on first down all we do is trick ourselves into long second downs so the clock stops with 813 after the incomplete pass four wide three wide outs actually four out on the field one back again is Johnson just get the ball to the right side to the edge on the sweep and that's what they try to do cuts it back has a running lane to the 45 50 45 40 breaks a tackle to the goose that's loose to the 30 to the 20 to the 10 night night Tigers the Falcons may have just sealed this one with a touchdown by DeCarson Johnson great job by DeCarson Johnson to be able to get it to the outside once the outside was blocked off there he went through this giant hole that was a dead smack in the middle stuck his foot in the turf and exploded through that hole found the end zone beautiful run and that may do it right there with 8.03 to go and Florence up 34-10 Greenhall to attempt the PAT may hand a hold now they get ready for the snap good snap good hold kick on the way kick is up the kick is good new score Florence tacks on more as they lead it 35-10 this is Falcon football we're back in 30 craving authentic Mexican flavor dive into delicious at Hugo's Mexican restaurant 4160 Florence Boulevard at the entrance to Kendall Garden start off with fresh tortilla chips and Hugo's famous cheese dip then enjoy mouthwatering tacos enchiladas and of course Hugo's famous fajitas and more all in a vibrant atmosphere we're open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday until 9pm and until 9.30 on Friday and Saturday Hugo's Mexican restaurant where every meal is a fiesta see you soon at 4164 Boulevard at the entrance to Kendall Gardens Lawrence extends the lead to 35-10 with 8.03 to go that last drive from John McDaniel well Kevin for the Falcons that was a 11 play I'm sorry it was a 2 play 55 yard touchdown drive just 10 just 10 seconds came off the clock kick will go into the end zone touch back and once again Greenhall does his job it's not very often that in a high school game you see people leaving the tunnel after a touchdown but I just saw a bunch of barcel folks getting an early exit outside you usually don't see that but that was definitely interesting 35-10 with 8.03 to go Florence trying to seal a home playoff game and maybe a region title tonight for the first time since 2014 if they can get a little help from down south and the Golden Tigers or Russell but first things first Falcon defense wants to get another stop Hartson will have it first and 10 at the 20 after DeCarson Johnson's long touchdown run and are they going to call timeout let's see they're moving the ball to the right hash I've never seen that on the touchback that you can ask the ball to be moved to the right hash but they did that's the first time I've seen that before so they move the ball to the right hash on this first and 10 play Amos will bring a man in motion and they run the speed sweep that's why they wanted on that hash they're trying to get some speed out here and Polachek is hitting the 24 and he'll go down after a gain of 4 so they wanted to run the speed sweep that's why they wanted to move it to the right hash so they have a little more room to run it right there's only two places to run when you're moving it across that hash like that you're either running it to your own sideline there or you're trying to get that extra space on the speed sweep and that speed sweep they had a lot of space there our guys closed in after a 5 yard game so you're telling me you can either run it right or left that's something like that 2 to the right 1 to the left for Amos clock at 718 and running going to lead with his back southern up the middle he may have enough with the first down as he pushes across the 30 to the 31 but Jeffrey Jones on the sideline right now if you're Falcons you've got a comfortable 35-10 lead clock is your weapon right now yeah and we got control of the clock and you know they're going to have to start throwing in a minute I should have already ready but we've got to keep that clock ticking we're playing it well right now on defense we've got the momentum right now first and 10 at the 31 going to again look to pass gets it out here to Priola who caught it at the 35 makes a man miss got to the 40 11 yard gain it'll move the change again roulette and Ward in on the tackle brings up first and 10 for the Tigers with 6.53 to go I'm just one of those guys just don't like to relax keep everything in front of you right here no you definitely keep everything in front of you you play the game the way you know it and continue to hammer away make this a difficult opportunity difficult drive here for Hartzell now Priola quarterback and that clock continues to run the Tigers are 4-4 on the season they're a really good team can't believe they're not making the playoffs gonna lead with his back off the left side Southern trying to get there and Southern gets to the 50 yard second down and five the athletic director of Florence High School comes by and says excitement she's pretty excited about what's going on right now hey that's her baby she can do whatever she wants she does whatever she wants look you know when you get a nice little Ric Flair woo from the AD that's pretty good yeah I think you take it 100% of the time second down and five no backs in the backfield wants to throw Amos now steps in the pocket now he's in trouble now he fumbles it now he has to fall on it back down at the 42 yard line we'll call that a sack for Florence for the first time we'll take it yeah that was good good job there by the Falcons secondary to string that out keep it do not give the quarterback any options and then the defensive line just cleaned it up at the end Florence up 35 to 10 here with six minutes to go Tigers lead it 38 to 20 in the fourth quarter oh hold on Falcon fans we may be seeing something big tonight third and 10 three wide receivers for the Tigers of Hartzell one back in the backfield now you bring a man in motion Priola to the left back to pass looking left wants to throw to the sideline complete has it to wide receiver Weathers who's knocked out of bounds at the 47 he'll be way short of the first down it'll bring up fourth and seven Klotschbach again on the tackle 22 I'm gonna let him be on the radio every Thursday night I don't know what it is but he's had the game of his life he certainly has you know you can tell he's definitely more comfortable out there he's seeing things on the field the game has slowed down for him he's really just done a great job of being in position all the time Tigers bring the punt unit in and Priola will punt it away actually maybe Newton's gonna punt it this time and a good job by Goolsby get away it'll bounce out of bounds right around the 29 yard line and 521 to go 522 to go in the game Florence up 35-10 and I don't know Jeffrey Jones on the sideline a little excitement on this game and maybe some words start to spread hey this could be special well if they know I don't know if they know but we've got we've got a job to do on our side they know that you know no one's asking except for one player and I'm not telling him that's good good job I've coached you up you did well 35 thanks coach 35-10 Florence leads it it would be pretty neat with this jumbotron if they could throw that up on that thing to watch the final final minutes of that other game I think that other game we thought it would be by 830 but it's still going on but I mean just send the message down to the other booth there and see if we can do that first and 10 at the 29 for the Falcons Mahan gets the snap hands it off to his back Johnson this time he's hit hard he'll be brought down no game I think that's still Johnson in there nope check that it was Ja'Kyle and Ja'Kyle and Williams in there so Ja'Kyle and Williams lost a yard second down and 11 with 5 minutes to go under 5 minutes when we snap it the next time you can run that clock a little bit now and this is where you know we've talked about this this year Florence hasn't always run the clock well in this situation this time I've seen it wait and look the play's not coming in yet taking your time you help the quarterback there you help the quarterback there but you also get yourself used to being able to play strategic with the clock using that as a weapon against the other team as well play clock down to 5 before he even gets ready to snap it going to leave it with Williams up the middle got a little rum room 30, 35 down to 37 make it to the 38 39 yard line Ja'Kyle and Williams says you have enough to move the chains he'll have a first down a fresh set of downs for the Falcons 432 to go in the game leading it 35-10 and trying to go to 8-1 on the season are the Florence Falcons the number 9 team in the state of Alabama first and 10 at the 39 Williams will stay in that is Ja'Kyle and Williams at tailback Morris is at wide receiver to the right boy you see this Hartzell team they jump a lot trying to make the offensive lineman react Williams will move to the right side of Mahan going to run him to the left he cuts back up find a little running room gots about 3 or 4 stays on his feet before he's brought down at the 43 but he hangs on to the ball and moves the clock and moves it a little closer Jeffrey Jones right now Florence getting some fresh players up 35-10 too and it's good to see that yeah it is good to see these guys get in still got Costin in a couple starters in but senior night if you're a senior you deserve to play right now and most of them have played Daveon Butler in the game right now as a sophomore and also checking again Zane Handy I think Hartzell's about to empty theirs too second down and 6 at the 43 under 3 and a half to go now and the play down to 5 good job by coach Kenny Morrison and staff Mahan going to lead with Williams who gets no yardage this time he'll get back to the line of scrimmage brought down there by a couple of Tiger players including Noah Berryman and it brings up third down third and seven to go so run that clock and let it run Florence up comfortably don't forget next Thursday night the Falcons will be on the road to take on Fort Payne third and seven Williams is still the tailback that's your Colin Williams he gets it again and that time he's hitting the backfield with the blitz coming he loses yardage Hurley is a tackling machine boy John John you gotta love a kid like that when you see a linebacker I love that type of player he's a very physical he's sideline to sideline I've been watching him actually the last five plays he's got four tackles in five plays and that's just a microcosm of how he is tonight he's probably got 18 to 20 tackles for the game great player from what I understand he's a great kid really a testament to his family and to Hartsell High School Greenhall will punt it away 10 on the line of scrimmage they bring in the house again barely got rid of blocked partially blocked it'll roll to the 50 yard line and what I talked about earlier finally picked up by the Tigers there at the 48 yard line and the Falcons may have got the ball back nope didn't get it but block punt there and that's not Greenhall's fault well it's everybody's fault we'll put it that way it's a block punt it's on all 11 the upbacks haven't touched anybody it's kind of wild we really really got to clean that up that's the one area of special teams that has been weak and so you know it's just just unfortunate you know with a minute 37 left to have that miscue right before the end of this game KJ may have some Tylenol I have to take after that one that one got me I didn't like it at all it's been it's been far too close all game there's no adjustment and that's something that's you get into bad habits and boy other teams say that on film they're going to be bringing the house all season long the rest of the year with 137 to go the Tigers will have it at midfield back to pass it's Amos looks to throw has time down the middle of the field has a man out there and it's incomplete now their flags and the Falcons maybe jumped a little early on Priola so with 129 to go 35 to 10 Falcons on their way to an 8-1 season and in my years of broadcasting and covering games I do not remember an 8-1 season Jeffrey Jones is this the first time I think it is I believe it is too yes yes we have I have not and a chance I have to go back to what 13 13 8 wins is the most we have had in a regular season 8-2 but I have never been able to be in 8-1 and lose it in the last game going to give it off outside and Muhammad has it and gets across the 30 hit down while Caden Moore at the 29 a game of about 8 or 9 with a minute 20 and counting if you're the Falcons don't let them get in the end zone here I know you're up 35 to 10 but have some pride here don't let them score you got a lot of subs in yeah we've got a lot of subs in Kevin but they've still got their starting offensive line which has held its own against our starting defensive line tonight more than most teams have that's not over in Russell yet Austin's cut it to 38-27 with 6 minutes to go by the way don't go away play action pass Amos wants to throw to the sideline and incomplete good job over there by petty pull Reddick cut in front just to make it a little tougher pass and he threw it out of bounds yeah being able to jump that route get out in front of that route would make that pass even harder and he did a really good job but again you know you get those quarterbacks feet moving you know even if he's good athletic quarterback those throws are very difficult to make and they just don't make them at this level so when he when he's running at full speed and having to deliver a ball perfectly it's just not happening third and two at the 29 or 28 yard line excuse me going to leave with his tailback Muhammad he's got running room and a blocker at the 20 down to the 15 and got the first down not good job by the Falcons right there got some backups in but did not do a good job finally brought down there that hole could have the team bus could have drove through that one that's for sure 40 seconds to go in the game though leading at 35-10 Florence done their job to seal a home playoff game to start in first round back to pass Amos looks left throws to the corner of the end zone has a man out there and it's called touchdown so he hits the touchdown to Palachek with 26.3 to cut it to 35-16 pending the extra point and give Amos credit he has been a battler all game long PAT attempt coming by the way the Hartzell fight song does anybody know which college that comes from hail to the victors the Michigan Wolverines fight song Newton to attempt the PAT chips it up and it's good new score Florence leaves at 35-17 26 seconds to go in the game falcon football back in [3:28:21] Anderson Senior Field Hartzell cuts the lead to 35-17 in the waning seconds that last drive from Hartzell John McDaniel Kevin Kevin Kevin 4 plays 51 yards total 15-yard touchdown pass and it took a little over a minute a minute three for that to happen Jeffrey Jones real quick on the sideline is this one of the prettiest nights for high school football we've had no yeah it's great it's a great perfect temperature getting a little bit chilly but you know that's expected late in the game in a late October game absolutely way better than last week you got that right and a better score too deep kick by Newton will go out of bounds so Florence will have it with 26.3 on the clock leading at 35-17 and want to finish this one off and then pull for the Golden Tigers all we can to hold on down in Russellville so got to give Florence credit Mike it was going to be tough but they come in here and they didn't play perfect but they played really well and you look up and again this defense cannot give up 21 points and again 17 points it's pretty good oh absolutely you know you could erase seven of those points I mean they did score those points however you know if we're if we're playing our ones that likely is not a a thing and Florence now getting ready to take the victory formation Goolsby will take it put it on a knee and coach Kenny Marson with a little bit of a bath I believe as Florence goes to 8-1 and they knock off Hartzell 35-17 and the teams meet at midfield this is Falcon football we're back in a minute game day's coming and your tailgate crew is counting on you that's why Lost Pizza Company Shoals put together the tailgate playbook specialty pizzas wing trays and subplatters all built to feed a crowd it's why we're the go-to pizza place in Florence, Alabama now bringing that same lineup straight to your tailgate order for pickup or delivery to UNA tailgate only call 256-415-8693 or order online at lostpizza.com front slash Shoals from our playbook to your plate this is Miranda Haddock with the Florence Education Foundation we invite you to support our Friends of the Foundation campaign as a friend of the Foundation you can contribute any amount to help fund classroom needs in Florence City Schools please visit our website at FlorenceEducationFoundation.org to explore our new giving levels and the added perks available we would like to wish Coach Morrison and the entire Falcon football team good luck this season good news Falcon fans Florence does their job they take care of it 35-17 they knock off the Hartzell Tigers to end the regular season region with just one loss Jeffrey Jones I'm not sure do you have the head coach with you yet I'm running okay I see him down there with Coach Myra Miles I got him right here Coach we did our job tonight what do you think about that finish finish what we started proud of those guys tickled to death that we're where we are right now good overall performance on both sides of all wasn't perfect but you know we'll take that we'll take that effort after great effort proud of these seniors a good opportunity for them to finish it out tonight how was that that shower you just got love it taking any day of the week now you know we did our job now we can we can kind of look down south and see what's going on down there yeah we've been keeping a little eye on it but we had to worry about us first we need Russell to finish out what they're doing right now go celebrate with your team thank you thank you appreciate it Coach Kenny Morrison the Florence Falcons and a great interview from Jeffrey Jones who knows what's going at stake the Falcons and all the band players will come to sing the alma mater here on senior night and Mike Albertson senior night there was a couple of them that stepped up I'll go to Carson Johnson with the big plays big touchdown to sort of put it away I think you've got one on defense that was pretty good I think Austin Clotzbach gets the tip of the cap there you know just as the season has gone on he's gotten opportunities to continue to grow and play unfortunately injury you know put him out there but he's answered the call and he had just a phenomenal game tonight and you know on senior night no less it was definitely a special night hey tip of the hat to the Hartsell Tigers Coach Burton Newton has seen his 4-5 on the season 3-4 in region play I'll tell you what I'd say doggone good team over there to be at a record that they never stop they are well coached they are definitely well coached and you know just remember we've seen this in years past where there's a team that they're that record just does not reflect the team that's on the field we saw that from James Clemens a few years ago and a certain quarterback named G.L. Lopez that came back and just crushed us the next several years so I mean the future for Hartsell is clearly you know is going to be bright they've got plenty of players that are going to be reloading here it is a best of night at Brawley Stadium right now as they win it 35-17 let's sneak in one more one minute time out you're listening to the TNT Fireworks post game show we're back in one minute thanks for choosing Whataburger what can I get started for you at Whataburger each meal is made to order so you can always get exactly what you crave if that's a Whataburger what a meal you got it but if you're what a Whataburger with grilled onions crispy bacon and creamy pepper sauce go for it march to the beat of your own drum bite into the beef of your own Whataburger creation Whataburger just like you like it 1554 florence boulevard Hi I'm Dr. Brady Citizen with Treehouse Children's Dentistry our teens in Tuscumbia Killen and Madison are so excited to welcome you and your family to our treehouse we know that choosing a dental home can be a stressful experience that's why at Treehouse Children's Dentistry we've created an environment that kids and parents love our team is experienced and caring for every child from infants to teenagers to children with special needs call one of our three locations today or visit our website at treehousedentist.com we're so excited to see you soon at Treehouse Children's Dentistry a branch of Singing River Dentistry Back at Brawley Stadium Charles C. Anderson Senior Field checking out good news for the Florence Falcons as they win it 35-17 over the Hartsville Tigers to go to 6-1 in region play and to go to 8-1 on the season with the Thursday night game coming up against the Fort Payne Wildcats next week on the road and now they await the final from down in Russellville where the Golden Tigers are leading Austin late the score was 38-27 with 6-11 to go and probably way before a lot more than that now they're bringing it up on the scoreboard here technology is interesting you can watch the game a little bit on the scoreboard now and the Golden Tigers look like they have the ball too so that's good for large fans we get a call play-by-play here I could do it if I can see it if I can see it pretty well a timeout taken looks like so it's down I'm not sure how much time is left but timeout taken by the Tigers or excuse me by the by the Austin Black Bears and Daryl Higgins may get an extra biscuit for breakfast in the morning from Kenny Morrison if they win this one I don't know if Jeffrey Jones are you still with us JJ he may be on his way up here yes I'm down here on the field JJ stay there for a little bit front row center to watch the jumbotron with the whole the rest of every varsity player and every team team member down here I don't know we're trying to get where they can see the score but last I saw the score was 38-27 Russellville and I'm not sure how much time is left but we'll see Russellville has the ball wearing the gold uniforms black pants Florence wish they had taken care of business last week but you know when you look at it Mike you have to play all seven games in the region and after it all plays out it doesn't matter if you run six at the front or six at the end if you won the ones you're supposed to win and win it then so be it right you know and look you're going to get tripped up you're going to lose games and what have you Florence lost last week they had an opportunity to seal it then but you know sometimes you need a little help from your friends so you know by the way let me speak a little help from my friends the score now is 45-27 Russellville with 308 to go they must have scored just then yeah I think they're about to score there I'm getting the NFHS is a little behind that we're on but the Tigers are driving and Jeffrey you might just whispered to one of the coaches that the Golden Tigers are about to put it in the books right here I believe it's 45-27 and I think the word's getting spread now as he's telling some of the coaches and boy this is a celebration but it's really going to be a celebration if Russell can finish this off this is the weirdest thing I've ever done for a post game to be here watching a game in high school football at another stadium to see what will happen in the final but it's a big game because if that happens Florence will be the number one seed and would be assured a home game the first round and if they won they'd be assured a home game the second round and possibly the third round depending on how everything plays I say the second round if there's no upset on the other side and that's the key but it really puts you in good shape right the rule used to be that you were you couldn't do two or you couldn't do more than two home games in a row they would it's a long time ago I remember that yeah and or you couldn't be on the road two games in a row and I don't know how all that works and how those tie breakers work and all that we're going to let everybody worry about that in Montgomery and we're just going to enjoy this one right here I wish they could just give me a microphone so I could say to them right now we have one minute left on the field before you have to clear the field I think it would be pretty funny right now to say that but that's a little inside joke let's see so the folks are milling around Jeffrey Jones you've had a couple of coaches come up they know the score a little earlier don't they they're about to really get excited they see Russell will score right here yeah I've tipped a few of them off that it's about to happen it's about to happen so they're going watch them go crazy right here it's going to be a touch I believe in the left end zone let's get off to Taurus Davis he breaks the tackle at the 30-25-20-15-10 there goes Davis there goes Davis there goes Davis and now it's like three minutes Kevin left in the game yeah probably a little less than that I'm actually getting an update from the Decatur Daily's Caleb Suggs and that is a huge huge thing and if Russell hangs on Florence is your region champions for the first time since 2014 it will be the third region championship in school history they won the first one in 2007 here at Brawley Stadium when they knocked off Huntsville and intercepted the pass late and returned it for a peak six to seal it to win their first ever region championship in 2014 there was no doubt that team just took it and ran with it in the region and then tonight the Falcons take care of their business 45-27 and Mike you know the big thing here for Florence is this is that they've come out of this pretty healthy too I mean we lost a couple of players throughout the season and a really good linebacker Chase Winkles that we wish him the best he is a fine young man only a junior but it's really important that this Falcon team is healthy going into the playoffs yeah it definitely is and you know we have had the luxury of having some depth this year and very few injuries so it's been beneficial you know for the most part you know you do miss out on some of those guys that could definitely help us out Chase Winkles is just a great kid and has done a great job for the Falcons but you know this team as they move forward you know being able to kind of rest some guys if they are dinged up next week is definitely beneficial as well Austin Klotzbach at the 43 yard line getting pictures made with family grandparents I bet that granddad is as proud of him as he's ever been he had a great game tonight and this Falcon team should celebrate for what they've done throughout the season I tell you what we're going to get another time out in we're going to stay right here after this but we're going to have another time out you're listening to the TNT fireworks post game show Florence knocks off eyes are down at Russellville we actually have the game on the Jumbotron here at Brawley Stadium this is news pretty cool and all the fans and everyone nobody's really left a whole lot they're all on the field watching let's go down to Jeffrey Jones who has the head coach coach the whole team half the student section went out here on the field this is a pretty fun time isn't it this is awesome awesome to be a Florence Falcon right now technology is a great thing you know we're sitting here everyone's on the field watching the end of this Russellville-Austin game and you know it's a little bit delayed so we kind of know a little bit what's going to the future what's going to happen but is it safe to talk about possibly maybe a region championship we want that clock to tick we're all super we're not we're not superstitious we're just a little superstitious down here we want to ask him about the question I asked you there so KJ wants to know if you're going if this plays out like we think we hope it might is you going to bring Higgins an extra biscuit in the morning absolutely absolutely you think he's earned it he'll get a big old hug I'll assure you yeah and I'll tell you what I've said this before the pregame there's no other guy I'd rather have our you know if we're going to rely on anybody in our region it would be Daryl Higgins to pull this out no doubt I mean those guys do it right down there I go back to the night we played them their coaching staff our coaching staff their kids our kids no mess whatsoever it's what football was supposed to be like and both sides of it were you know tip your hat to each other class act on both sides that was an enjoyable ball game down there that night sure was how about seeing seeing these seniors and what not just getting pictures made with their buddies and parents down here it's just a great great night to be a Florence Falcon I can say it again they have put in a lot of long hours for this to come to fruition for them and I'm just tickled for them I'm excited for this program excited for this community we gotta enjoy this one we may take longer than 24 hours this time I was gonna ask that was my next question maybe 26 hours who knows we may take a couple of days on this one hey tell coach it's 135 to go in the game now there's 135 left in the game I'm not sure what that clock says my eyes aren't as good as they used to be but 135 left and it's still the same score coach I'm gonna let you go celebrate with the team thank you again while we're letting this game in let's get our final stats brought to us by our good friends at Chick-fil-A they're still open for about 15 minutes but they'll be ready for breakfast in the morning there'll be a lot of Falcon fans going by Chick-fil-A in the morning John McDaniel it's all yours thank you KJ the Tigers tonight Hartzell 302 yards of total offense they had 25 rushes for 60 yards they were 15 for 38 passing for 242 yards 16 first downs on the night 3 for 14 on third down conversions 1 for 2 on fourth down attempts 5 penalties tonight for 40 yards no turnovers 2 for 2 on the PATs and the time of possession was 21 minutes 14 seconds go ahead go ahead I'm sorry Florence tonight 460 yards total we had 38 rushes for 282 yards 13 for 18 passing 178 yards 18 first downs tonight 2 for 10 on our third down conversions 2 for 3 on our fourth down attempts 10 penalties for 88 yards we had no turnovers as well 5 for 5 on our PATs and our time of possession was 26 minutes 46 minutes 46 seconds 46 seconds Kostin tonight Kostin tonight he was our leading passer 13 for 18 178 yards and 2 touchdowns Kavante Green he had 5 receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown Kaya Williams 11 carries 131 yards rushing and DeCarson Johnson 13 carries 147 yards and 3 touchdowns super proud of that young man coming back with a big week after last and Mike that was incredible coming back like that it was impressive the two kids I think he said went over 100 yards rushing for Florence 460 yards offense that's a great night it absolutely is a great night but you know just to echo what John just said DeCarson Johnson after having a heartbreaker situation for himself last week being able to turn the page showing maturity showing grit to be able to come in today and just absolutely crush it it sounded like 140 yards couple touchdowns just a great overall performance but he's been our dog we've rode him all year long and he's just done a phenomenal job so my hat's off to him especially on this senior night a tremendous night here Florence did their job they got out to a great start DeCarson Johnson with an 8 yard run for 7-0 lead Greenhall was perfect on all his extra points all 5 of them on the night Johnson again from 17 yards out capping a 75 yard drive made it 14-0 in the first Hartzell answer back with a touchdown run from 3 yards out made it 14-7 but maybe the biggest play of the game into the first quarter Costin Mahan on 4th down found Kirkland Blank and with that he hit blank and the touchdown was good and that was a 30-yarder to make it 21-7 Hartzell answer with a field goal from Newton to cut it 21-10 but once again Mahan on 4th down again found I believe it was Green it might not have been 4th down I'll check that but 28-10 as he hit Kevante Green who made a tremendous catch and then Carson Johnson put it away with a long run of 56 yards to make it 35-10 with 803 to go a token touchdown for Hartzell makes the final score 35-17 and we're awaiting the final score we got it on the NFHS it's about 3 minutes on there 2 minutes on there I'm waiting for a word from my friends at Russell that are texting me to give the update but the Falcons are starting to celebrate a little bit here at Brawley Stadium something we have not seen Mike Albertson in 12 years and wow pretty special you know what I'm proud for these seniors I'm proud for all these kids what about Kenny Marson look I say it all the time you know when you have a good coach and when you have a guy that understands the game and what it is as far as making a program is concerned you know it does lead to some special things and so Coach Morrison who's just done a phenomenal job here took over after you know kind of a carousel of coaches of sorts and really been the steadfast leader that we've needed the constant the steady and he's really just done a great job of building the depth within this program and really getting the Falcons back towards Falcon football you know we talk about the first region championship since 2014 you know early on that was my second or third that was my third season doing radio and I just thought that this was going to be a thing you know and it's been 12 long years for us to win this region championship and come back and so this one feels a lot sweeter to me because of you know how hard these guys have worked how hard the coaches have worked the players everybody involved even the community coming together this year things just feel different around here and we're putting it on the field as well Jeffrey Jones have you ever seen such a situation where all the players are watching another game at a high school game to see what their final result will be it's pretty cool it certainly hadn't happened on our field that's for sure Austin scored late but it's late in the game but what they're doing is they got all the players on their scoreboard and they're going to if this holds up I keep saying if if this holds up they're going to get a picture in front of the scoreboard with the with the new graphic you'll see in a minute by the way just again what an effort by Florence tonight offensively 460 yards of offense defensively Mike didn't really turn the Tigers over but at the same time they turned the Tigers away time after time they did it really caused fits for the quarterback and the wide receiving core they hit some passes early on and it was pretty concerning but we made adjustments and really made it difficult for the quarterback to complete some things downfield and while we did that it really just strung that game out they really didn't get much of a running game going and we were able to take control I think it's 45-35 now after the two-point conversion with about a minute and a half left is what we last heard minute 22 yeah it's funny I've been scouring the internet the gentleman that's on the on site has been quite quiet for the last 24 minutes he's not updated the last two scores I think the internet may have just broken down in Russellville Alabama but if they win this one tonight Florence will be the region champions and that is an incredible feat for this 2020 16 and you know credit to this Florence administration and staff tonight my remarks the athletic director Tim Bowens associate athletic director they put it all there final score final score is coming here Florence is the region champions that is over as they have won the region championship in region seven in class five a and the celebration of the Falcon players are sprinting up and down the field they don't know what to do they're just excited and they should be Mike they should be absolutely you know it's one of those situations they've really worked hard and they did something that you know before the season started they knew that there was expectations on them and they've lived up to those expectations Florence wins it here but let's take a timeout we come back we'll talk more about the region champion Florence Falcons after this one
