Cold night in Alabama, December night, but a warm gym and we're on the road in Madison, Alabama, where the Falcons are going to take on the Jets, the high-flying Jets, the high-flying Falcons.

Kevin Johnson here on the call. You're joined now by my color analyst, Mike Albertson. Mike, when any time Florence and James Clemens get together, we know it's going to be a battle. We know it's going to go down to the wire. Usually two teams that played last year, I believe, in the region or area championship, and two teams that went to Hansville last year as well.
So these programs are successful programs. They certainly are. You know, we talk about Coach Burleson all the time, but Coach Frankie Sullivan over here at James Clemens has done just a great job with this program. He's really done some masterful things. You know, as you said, the team went to Hansville last year. They've done a lot. They have a lot of returning players. It should be a great matchup here in this area. Should be a good one. Both teams warming up. You're listening to the TNT Fireworks pregame show, Florence Falcons basketball.

Welcome back to the TNT Fireworks pre-game show, Florence Falcon Basketball. Glad to be with you, Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson. Florence coming off a big win over muscle shows at home last Tuesday night, knocking off the Trojans for the first win of the season.
It's been a slow start for this team, but Mike, you and I talked about it off the air and on the trip. This Falcon team, people don't realize, only really just limited playing experience from a year ago. It's a brand new roster in many ways. It certainly is. You know, we have two returning players that got significant time last year. Other than that, it's mix and match. I mean, we had, I mean, we have a couple guys that did get some time at the varsity level last year, but learning the speed of the game at the 7A level and things like that, it's just different, you know.
And so this team, while they don't have just a ton of experience on the court at the varsity level, they've really worked hard. They're a hard-working crew. They really have bought in, but while they haven't seen as much success as they like in the win and loss column, you're seeing them grow each and every week in each and every game. And for the Florence Falcons, they really got a lot out of Jason Payne. Last Tuesday night, he had a career night with 32 points. He certainly did.
[5:22] He got hot in the first quarter. I mean, it was a quarter like I haven't seen in quite some time. I believe he finished with 17 in that first quarter, including three three-pointers. And so J.C. did just a great job of finding his way to some open space on the court, and the Falcons did a good job of hitting them along that three-point line. They had an explosive first quarter. I believe they scored 26, and it really paved the way for a Falcon win against Muscle Shoals.
This is not an easy place to play, Mike, at James Clemens. When you come here, you know it's going to be a tough battle, but it just seems like this gym is always difficult to play in. It certainly is. You know, and Coach Sullivan definitely uses it to his advantage. Sure. The crowd's usually, you know, quite entertaining and really enthusiastic about the game. And so this being a tougher place to play, you know, in the area games, you hear coaches go, you know, if we could just split with the top team and then maybe sneak one on the road, and, you know, we'd be in great shape for the area.
But, you know, this is one of those tough places to play and come away with a victory. It is going to be tough. Both teams warm it up. When we come back, we'll have starting lineups. You're listening to the TNT Fireworks pregame show of Florence Falcon Basketball. We're back in two minutes. At Whataburger, each meal is made to order, so you can always get exactly what you crave. Creamy, dreamy, and downright legendary. These flavors won't stick around forever. Only at Lost Pizza Company Shovels, where the lost get fed. Back here at James Clemens, where the Falcons in their black uniforms get introduced here courtside. Jaceon Payne wears number one. We'll get the start. Jaceon Pearson, the point guard, will wear number two. So, one-two will get the start. Cage Roy wears number four. Played the forward position. I think they got the wrong one over the next one. Zy Burnett, number 14, will get the start. And I think the other one should be Irons.
So, Burnett will get the start. We'll check that. So, the freshman Zy Burnett will get the start again. And, Mike, he gave a little spark the other night. See if he can do it again. Absolutely. You know, he came in there. You know, yeah, you could see that he's a freshman. He's raw. He's 14 years old. But he's fearless. You know, being able to have that poise and that determination at this varsity level was definitely a spark here for the Falcons. They did such a great job of really integrating him throughout the game to really keep him comfortable.
And, you know, he gave some great minutes in production. Finished with four points but had multiple rebounds. Finished with a block. You know, just really did things on both sides of the court that for such a young man was great to see. Check the starters there. I believe it's going to be Irons that get the start for the Falcons. So, it'll be Irons, Pearson Payne, Roy, and Burnett. Now the starting lineups. Keon Harris will get the start. Hold on with Sieto Yokota. Nick Harris will get the start.
[10:34] We've been rattling off these names for years now. This is a very, very stout team. Isaiah Cleaves is an all-junior team. He's a four returning starters. And Alexander Blue played a lot last year. So, all five of these contributed big time last year. That's a big difference. It is a veteran team coming back for Frankie Sullivan. Home white uniforms, baby blue numerals, that jet blue, navy trim. Please forgive me. I am coming off a little eye surgery. I will be the best I can. Maybe I will get these names right and numbers right.
But, Michael, correct me as I go. It explains a lot. But, I think I can see well enough to call the game. We're going to give it a shot tonight. Falcons in the road, black and blue and white. Falcons will be going left, right. We're in the end zone, too, by the way. And I believe it's going to be, actually, Johnson who gets the start. So, excuse me, Jones gets the start for Florence, and he'll jump center. Jaden Jones. As the Falcons go left to right.
And the tip is controlled by the Jets. They'll have it running against the man-to-man pressure of Florence. In the corner, going baseline. Underneath, reverse layup. No good. Rebound taken by Florence right there. And that's Irons who gets it. Gets it to Pearson in front court. Pearson, between the legs, dribble, has Cleaves on him. Goes to the left wing. Looking forward is Payne. Payne will pull for three. The lefty's up. That one won't go. Rebound by Florence. It's Irons. Reverse layup. It wouldn't go. Tipped around. Rebound taken down by Ballou of the Jets.
The Jets' Cleaves looks to run. He has a head of steam. Lost it. Going down the floor, though, and stolen away by Pearson, who picked his pocket. How many times have I said that over the years? But he gives it right back in traffic as it's knocked away from behind. So, to go back to the Jets' and here's Cleaves with it. Cleaves will leave it with teammate coming down the baseline. Shot no good. Rebound taken by Florence. Pearson. Pearson will bring it up the floor. Goes to the left side.
Burnett thought about it. Wouldn't take it there. Reverse it to the Roy. Roy at the elbow. Can't get by this man. Now lobs it to Irons at the free throw line. He goes hard to the basket. Goes up. Shot blocked by Ballou. And taken down by the 6'5", Ballou. Giving up size again. It's Irons. But Irons there. Steals it from behind. Ball loose. Ballou got it back. It should have been backcourt. No call. Goes back to the Jets. A deep two on the way. No good.
Rebound taken by Florence. The Vikings doing a good job on the boards there as Payne brings it down. No score. A lot of action. But both teams cold early on. It's only 37 degrees outside. We can understand why. Pearson top of the key. Has your cut on him. Looking nowhere to go. Picked up the dribble. Cross court pass. Open for three. It's Payne. Put it up. That one too strong. Rebound taken by Ballou. On the boards. Outlet pass. They've got a run out. Coming down the other way.
Lay up. Put up with the left hand. That is good for the first basket of the day. That will go to Harris. Harris gets the 2-0 lead. Falcons down the floor. Pearson top of the key. Swings around to Burnett. Burnett with a white wristband on the left of the wrist. And a whistle. They're going to call steps. And Mike, you know, you're in Madison Huntsville. It's not a bad official. I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying it's going to be called differently. Where they may not call steps in some ways.
Let you get away with some things they may not hear. Right. You know, and that's the beauty of going around the road. You know, you really do face adversity. Not only from the crowd. But sometimes the officials that call the game a little bit differently than you're used to. But the Falcons early on need to settle into this ball game. Burnett will pick up. Full court against Cleves. D3 by Yokota up. Bounce in. No good. Rebound. Yanked down by Florence. That's Irons who owns the glass right there.
Over two Jets. Gets it to Pearson across the midcourt stripe. Goes to his right. Looks for a cutter. Keeps the dribble alive. Keeps the dribble alive. Goes baseline now. Nowhere to go. Still with the dribble though. Kicks it up to Irons. Irons lost it. Out of bounds. Last touch by the Jets as they come with a double team. Pearson sort of got caught in no man's land down in that corner there. Yeah, he walked himself into that corner and he was about to get trapped. He wound up trying to make a pass to Irons.
It got tipped away and luckily Falcons retained the possession. Roy gets it in now. A shot put up by Burnett. Up and in. The freshman crashes in and shoots it where the little runner tied it to. Quickly down the floor. Come the Jets. They have a wide open layup laid in. That was too easy right there for Harris. He's got both baskets. Payne brings up the four for Lawrence. Trailing four to two. Payne at the top of the key with the left-hand dribble. Yo-yos against Harris.
Looks for the screen. Can't get it. Has to kick it back out all the way top to Pearson. Pearson now to Irons who's at the elbow trying to dribble against the defender. Kicking it back out to Pearson on the right wing. No shot clock in this obviously. But it's coming soon in basketball. Up to Burnett. He drops in the lane. Got a step. Left-hand shot. Block. No foul. Rebound taken down and a whistle. And I think they call a reach-in on Burnett. Let's see. Call it on 10.
Okay. Call it on Harris. So that's a break for Florence. Yeah. Burnett had inside position. Did a good job boxing out. That's how he got that call. Falcons for 10 possession. Darby will come in for the Jets. Sieto Yokoto will go out. 4.49 to go. Florence trails at 4-2. Falcons trying to get inbounds. Having to throw it all the way into the backcourt. And Payne will have to chase it down. He barely gets it right under the basket of James Clements. I almost could have bounced in. That would have been crazy.
[15:55] Pearson has it now for Florence in frontcourt. Pearson lobs it. Knocked away. Pearson gets it back. Uses his body to shield hairs from him. In the paint. Teardrop. No call. And a whistle. Now the whistle comes and will bail him out. We'll see if they give him free throws or not. That absolutely was a bailout there. Jay Schott was able to do that jump stop and got a little bump there. It could have been called for steps. But winded up getting a foul. Coach Sullivan is actually right now talking with the official about that jump stop and how probably with steps.
And the first thing I'd say to Frankie, I'd say Coach Sullivan. It's the first free throws good. I'd say Coach Sullivan. I watched you do that at Auburn and at RC Hatch for years. The very same play. Three Falcons in the game. Mike, you can help me one. Get those in here. I know Cooper Fulmer just checked in. J.B. and Lewis. And I didn't catch the other one. It might be Skipworth down here. Is that right? I believe it's Taylor Jones. Taylor Jones. Okay. Here we go.
The free throw up and good. So the free throws are both good by Pearson. And tied it up at four with 4.35 to go. And tackles to pick up full court. Fulmer will stay all he can with Harris. Harris has to pick up the dribble and give it back now. Up top. Darby has it. Harris has it. He's tied all four points. Drives into the lane. Got a step. Put it up. Too strong. Fulmer with a rebound for Florence. Good job boxing out. Gets it over to Pearson.
Pearson surveys. Traffic looks. Keeps the dribble live. Crossover dribble in the paint. Nowhere to go. Fulmer open. Three ball. Top of the key. Bouncing. Won't go. Rebound taken down. By Blue of the Jets. Tied at four. Four-minute mark. Quickly. Jets down the floor. In the lane. And a foul will be called. This time on Payne. It seemed not to be Lewis that got him there. Yeah. It would be Lewis. Lewis came in with the reach. That's when the whistle was blown there. And when Lewis reaches.
Remember, he played offensive tackle. I believe it was for the football team. It's a pretty good right cross. Inbounds pass coming underneath us here. They get it in. Deep three on the way by Blue. No good. Rebound on the floor. Taking him around. Fall four. Look at Fulmer trying to fight for it. But it goes right to a jet. Falcons have to play defense again. Fulmer was on the floor trying to get it. But it couldn't get a hold of it. They run their motion flex offense up top.
Lob inside. Trying to get the mismatch. And laid it up. Put it in. That's a smart play. They had the mismatch. The mouse in the house. And Blue put it in. Six to four. The Jets lead it. Yeah. The help defense came in just a little bit too late. Blue had a wide open lane to the glass. And that's a foul right there on the Jets. A little too close on Johnson. It just came in. Corbin Johnson. He pushed Payne one versus one in numbers. Team's third foul, I believe.
Into the game for Florence, I believe it is. Is that right? Cleves just came in. Oh, Cleves came back in. Okay, Cleves comes back in. Pearson has it top of the key. Gets the screen. Reverses away from Lewis. Now he's double-teamed. Still keeps his dribble alive the whole time. Gets it back up top. Knocked away. It's going to be fought for and taken by the Jets. They come down. Put it up. Put it in. That was Darby. Darby gives the Jets an 8-4 lead. They pick up full court.
Payne will break the pressure. Payne had it knocked away. Stolen from behind. Here come the Jets with it. And ball stood out of bounds. Blue last touched it. No, Pearson did. It'll stay with the Jets. Yeah, Pearson did a good job of stepping in the lane there and making sure that Blue didn't have a run out to the basket. He was able to tip that ball out of bounds. You don't want to get into a race with this team. The Jets can fly. They are pretty good.
They get into Darby. He comes baseline. Got a step. Spans. What do they call us? Travel? Yeah, they call travel. I ain't sitting up top right by the table. Mike's standing up. He can see to the left. I can see to the right. Put it that way. Yeah, KJ was blocked out by the little fence here, the little gate. But it was as the ball handler was making a pivot move, and he just had a few extra steps. He kind of backed into his own travel.
Jones gets it up court. Now brings it over to Payne to run the point. Payne looks for a screen up top. Goes back to the left side. Burnett back in the game. Gets it out to Roy. Checked it to Lewis. Lewis back to Payne. Got to check it. Jones with it. Jones comes back up top. Got it to Burnett. Burnett picks up the dribble. Swings it back around. Lewis has it now on the right. Hints it back off to Roy. Roy swings it. Good ball movement there.
Ball's knocked away. It'll stay with Florence. The Jets are playing the passing lanes quite a bit. They're playing the passing lanes quite a bit, and they're doing a great job of playing the perimeter here on the Falcons. They're not giving up any lanes to the basket. Tough sledding here for the Falcons thus far. Payne gets it back after he inbounds it to Lewis. Well, boy, the Jets know where he is at all times. Cleaves on Payne right now and not letting him get anywhere. Payne goes back to the lane.
Tries to drive underneath. Kicks it out to the corner. Deep three on the way. It's up. No good. A whistle and a foul underneath, and I think they're going to get a Falcon for boxing out. They got Burnett, it looks like, underneath, wound up with the box out, wound up getting hooked with one of the James Clemens players and got an easy foul. And that's number two on him, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe number one. We'll see. Looks like Irons is coming in for J.D. and Lewis.
[21:05] So, Irons coming in for Lewis. Burnett's only his first, I believe, now. Falcons pick up full court, and they try to throw over the top of it, and do. They get it down to Darby. Got a step, but missed the layup. Rebound taken by Florence. Falcons catch a break. Up the floor, Burnett has it. Kiss it to the corner to Payne. Boy, they're all over Payne. They're watching him at all times. Actually, that was Jones that time. Burnett now gets it to Payne. Payne with it at the top of the key.
Says, let's reset. Payne goes to the right side with it, outside the three-point arc. Got the high screen. They fight through the screen. Bounce pass to the top of the key now. Burnett split the double team. Keeps the dribble alive. Can't get his shot off. Almost threw it away in back court. Irons did a tremendous job using his body to shield the defender to get it back for Florence. Now Roy has it. Picks up his dribble. Florence really discombobulated on offense and balled. He's thrown away, but out of bounds.
Last touch by the Jets. He'll go back to Florence. And right now, the pressure defense is playing a big factor in this. Like, Florence having trouble getting into the offensive set. And you're seeing the experience of this James Clemens team wreak havoc with this Falcon offense. They really are dictating the offense to the Falcons, which, you know, they've really done a great job of keeping on J.C. on pain and J. Shaw Pearson. Burnett catches the inbound pass. Almost got trapped in the back court, but gets it to Pearson.
Pearson in front court now. And they're all over him. Pearson into the pain a little bit. Back out. And a whistle. And not sure what they call. He called the five seconds. He was not anywhere near him. He broke it two or three times. But I think he just got tired of the yo-yo and dribbling. And again, you're on the road. So, it's eight to four. The Jets with the lead with 117 to go. And the Jets with the basketball. They want to push off coming down to Cleese in the corner.
Deep three on the way from the corner. It's up and no good. Rebound put up. No. And got that one to go. That is Harris, who's got six of the ten. The Jets have a six-point lead with a minute to go here in the first quarter. Pearson. Double, triple team. Floater. Teardrop. Won't go. Rebound taken by Cleese. Cleese still holds it back. Gets it up to Harris. Harris down the floor. Driving hard to the basket. Knocked down by Irons. Stolen away. Here comes Pearson with it.
Pearson up the floor. Hesitation. Can't get the shot off. Gets it in the corner. Falcons now looking for a little help there. Gets it up to Burnett. Top of the key. Crossover. Pull up. Three by the lefty. Good. The freshman drains a big three right there with 30 seconds to go to make it 10 to 7. Full-court pressure by the Falcons. Gets try to break it up the floor. Good help there by Burnett. Now they come down the floor. Hand it off on the other side. Lay up. Good.
Break the press. And Darby lays it in with 20 seconds to go. Falcons trying to get in balance and finally do. They're all over. Pearson in the backcourt. There's Darby's over here checking him. Actually, it's Hill now checking him. Double team. Triple team with 10 seconds to go. I mean, he's got three all around him. They're just hedging him. Lob it up to Irons. Cross-court in the corner. Three on the way. Won't go. Rebound. Boy, should have been a push-off on the inside against the Jets. No call.
And after one, James Clemens leads it 12 to 7. This is Falco Basketball. We're back in 60. Irons Electric has been family-owned and operated for 65 years. Mention this ad on 93.9 The Score, and your first lane rental is free. First quarter in the books. Florence Falcon basketball on this Friday night. Falcons trail. James Clements 12-7 here. Kevin Johnson and Mike Albertson on the call. We're high atop the end zone, and Florence will have the basketball to start the second quarter. Pearson will be in there, along with Irons. I believe that's going to be Jones and Eric Fulmer, and maybe Burnett still. Fulmer has it to Pearson. Pearson trying to dribble through two or three defenders in the corner.
Can't get the shot off the air. Back out to Pearson. He's got an open three. Wouldn't go short. No good. Rebound tipped around, but it goes right to a jet. Cleese throws it up the floor. High knock. Great job by Pearson. He played defensive back. Knocked it away, and then dribbles through two defenders. Gets it to Burnett. To the basket. Layup short. No good. Couldn't get his own rebound. He stepped on the baseline. That's a little bit of a freshman move right there. I think he got a little bit worried about the defense coming.
[26:12] He worked along the baseline beautifully, and he misdirected his own shot. If he went up strong, it probably would have been perfectly fine, but he had a little misdirection. Grabbed his own rebound. Stepped out of bounds. Florence will pick up full court. Bringing up the floor will be Cleese. Deep three on the way up, and good. That's Darby. He drains the three. Brendan Hill. Excuse me. Hill, number two. 15-7. The Falcons former answers on the other end with a three of his own. Quickly down the floor.
Falcons answer back. 15-10. Florence trails. Cleese. Down the floor. Looking live. Up. Layup. Good. That was to Darby. We come down to the baseline, and the press right now is being a detriment to Florence a little bit. 17-10. Pearson gets it to Irons on the wing. Irons trying to dribble down. Goes up to the pot shot and blocked. Rebound taken by the Jets. They've got numbers. Down the floor. Coming up there. Harris. Harris goes over. Man, did they call the charge? They did. Charge call. That's good.
It's a great job by Fulmer to get down in defensive position. Down on the low block. We're creating that play there for the Falcons. Getting that turnover. Giving the Falcons an opportunity to get this game a little closer. Irons have come out. Timeout on the floor. We'll do the same. 6-48 to go. 17-10. The Jets lead it. We're back in 30. Getting the kids to practice on time. Remembering if it's your day to bring snacks. Making it to the game with a clean jersey. Why are simple things sometimes so complicated?
Thankfully, with auto owners, insurance doesn't have to be one of them. Auto owners works with independent agents who answer when you call. So you can worry about more important things. Like whether your kid is going to run toward first or third base. That's simple human sense. In Florence, see Luke Brown at Henniker Johnson & Layton Insurance. Call 256-764-8682. 6-48 to go in the first half. Florence trails at 17-10. And, Mike, it's really been the Jets pressure turning into offense, defense, offense, and running the floor. They absolutely are.
And, you know, the Falcons are doing or letting James Clemens leak out a little bit too much and getting easy looks at the basket while James Clemens has had really relentless defense on this press. Pearson at the free throw line kicks it back out and knocked away and stole away. Actually, I don't think Payne was looking for it. Threw it a little too hard to him. Down the floor quickly in the lane. Layup put up with the left hand and good. That was Cleese. Cleese got that one.
Florence trying to break the press. Pearson had to do it by himself. He bounced it through three, through four. Florence gets it back finally. Up the floor. Knocked away again from Payne. But it goes right to Pearson. Boy, the Jets are everywhere. They are quick as lightning. Payne for three. Got it. Needed it. Cuts the lead to 19-13. The Falcons' three-point line has been the savior right now for them staying in this game. They've hit three threes. They've come to Jets with it. The game lost it out of bounds.
Should be. Florence's basketball went off his chest, I thought. But they're going to stay at stage with the Jets. That was a great job by J-Shot as Saito was going up for the layup to be able to rake that ball down. It did look like it might have hit Yokota on the way out, however, James Cummings' ball. We can't lie. Saito Yokota is one of our favorite players on the visiting team. His dad's one of my favorite dads of all time. He's here, films all the games.
Such a good family. Really a great story. Jets with the basketball. They'll try the three from up top. Back room, no good. Payne gets the rebound. J-Shot slows it down a little bit. Up the floor. Almost stolen away. He is stolen away. Here comes the Jets down the floor. Shot up good and a foul. And that's on Payne. Went up for the block. And it started with a pass that was a little lazy. And Cleves will go to the line to shoot and try to complete the three-point play.
Leading it 21-13 with 5.33 to go in the half. This James Clemens team is relentless and they're super aggressive. They really attack the basket the entire time. And if you're caught napping, they're going to take it to the hole. And that's exactly what was happening there. As Cleves went to the hole, Payne was out of position, got the foul, and he hits the bonus. The bonus. Yep. And the lead up to 9-22-13. The largest lead of the day for the Jets. Payne in front court. Has Hill on him.
The lefty kicks it back out. Fulmer open. Top of the key. Three. That one wouldn't go. Rebound tipped out. But it's retrieved by the Jets. They're just a step quicker to the basketball fight. Very comfortable at home. Up the floor quickly. Yokota drives the basket. Kicks it back out. Up top. Swinging the ball. Movement quickly for the Jets. They go baseline. 15-footer on the way. Short. No good. Good box out by the Falcons there. The Falcons get the rebound. Jones has it. Gets it across the midcourt stripe.
Bounce it in the corner. Deep three on the way by Payne. That's short. No good. Jones yanked down the rebound. Back to Payne. Payne steps back. Tries another three. That one's up. Short. No good. Rebound on the floor. This time followed forward. Taken by the Falcons again. Jones again. Knocked away though and stolen by the Jets. Had two looks. Three looks. Couldn't get it to go. Yokota front court. Between the legs dribble. Stopped there by the Falcons. As Roy is on him. Now Hill has it and goes way back up top to Cleese.
[31:21] And will say set it up. 15-footer. Turn around jumper. In and out. No good. That was no good by Ballou. Rebound taken by Florence. This is Burnett. The freshman. Gets it to Payne. Falcons down 22-13 with four and a half to go in the half. And Burnett wasn't looking for it. But Payne retrieves it. Got it baseline to Roy. Roy nowhere to go with it. They're going to call steps. And that was the right call. I felt like drug the foot. Even I could see out from 94 feet away.
It was. He went baseline, which was a great move. And then he ran into no man's land. Tried to hold that pivot foot. But it slid quite a bit. Easy call for the officials right in front of him. Pearson and Irons will join Burnett. And let's see. Payne will stay in the game. And I'm not sure who that is. Is that Jones still down there covering the basket? I think it is. So, with 4.15 to go, 22-13, the Falcons have picked up full court. Trying to get in balance.
Now they do, finally. In back court. The Jets have gone about nine or ten deep right now. They've got several new fresh faces in there. Driving baseline. Nowhere to go. Kicked it around. Jumper on the way. No good. But a foul. And Michael Wilson, who just checked in the game, will go to the line to shoot two. Burnett may get the foul. It was on 14. Wilson did a great job on that foul line extended, being able to post up. Had really good offensive position. As he received that pass, Burnett came back in and hit him as he was shooting.
First free throw back rim. No good. Jaden Ritchie coming into the game for the Jets. I mean, they have gone probably 10 to 12 deep, leading at 22-13. So, trying to wear out the Falcon team what they can. Falcons have gone eight or nine deep. And that should be a lane violation, and it is, against the Jets. Johnson was trying to maybe step out. Not step in, but he stepped out of the lane. And that's what got him in trouble. Falcons have to go 94 feet now. He was trying to do a timing play where he was going to step around and try to go baseline underneath and re-box out.
The Falcon just completely mistimed it. Falcons break the press. Get up the floor. Deep three by Payne on the way. Won't go. Rebound taken down by the Jets. They look to run. They always look to run. Falcons do a better job of treating right there. Jets up the floor. Burnett picks up his man at the top of the key. He's got two fouls on him already. That should be a five-second call right there if there's going to be one on the other side. Johnson now guarded by Payne.
He'll step back for a deep three at the top of the key. Back for him, no good. Rebound tipped out. All the way back, no, and it's retrieved by Yokota. He steps into a three. That's not good. Rebound and a whistle away from the basket. I think they're going to call a pushing foul inside on Irons, maybe. It was pushing off. Guys were kind of jockeying for position together. It was probably a better no-call than anything else, but Irons wound up getting the whistle on that one.
That was in the midst of the shot, the whistle. I never liked that. I liked to see it and let them play it out. The lob inside, though, is put up and put in. They've used the sides right there, and Johnson gets it in. And the lead is at 11, 24-13. And here's the 2-2-1 press. Pearson to Irons. Irons says settle down, gets across the midcourt strike. Back to Pearson. Pearson now picked up there by his fourth defender he's seen today. Pearson behind the back dribble at the top of the key.
Spins in the lane, goes down the lane, kicked it in the corner. Three ball from the corner on the way. It will not fall. Rebound taken down by Yokota of the Jets. Under three to go, 24-13. Yokota looks back to Frankie Sullivan and slows it down. He gets by Burnett, drives in the lane. The left, he puts it up, puts it in. That's a veteran play right there. And Dylan Burleson says, I've seen enough. Timeout on the floor with 2.38 to go. 26-13, the Jets lead. Falcon basketball back in 30 seconds.

The Florence trails at 26-13, and the full court pressure remains with the Jets on the Falcons. Pearson has had to work a lot this quarter. He says, get away. Let me bring it up the floor. Almost stolen away. Finally gets it to Jones. He gets up the floor. Falcons turn and tackle it. It's blocked from behind. Rebound taken by Irons. Put it up.
No good. Tipped around. No good. And finally taken down by the Jets. They come out of there. They look to run. They push it up the floor. Attacking is Yokota. He'll pull up from 15. He got it. I don't know how he made that one, but he did. He's had the last four points and the lead, the largest of the day at 15, 28-13. Falcons have gone cold here in this first half, and especially the second quarter. Payne, double-team baseline. Has to throw it all the way back up top to Pearson who retrieves it.
[36:33] Pearson drives. Nowhere to go with it. Pulls up. Floater. It won't go. He had an open look from 12 feet, and all the rebounds are teeming white and blue, and it's not the Falcons. Here come the Jets up the floor wearing the home white. Falcons in the road black. Crossover by Hill in the corner. Deep three on the way from the corner. Missed everything. Rebound will go out of bounds, and it'll go to Florence. Jayden Ritchie missed that one. And subs for Florence. Fulmer will come in, and Lewis, I believe, will come in.
Fulmer's coming in for Roy. Lewis is not in. I checked that. Irons are still in the game. Right. So, Payne, Pearson, and Jones will join Fulmer and Irons on the floor with a minute 30 to go. Trailing by 15. Payne has it top of the key. The pressure defense on the double team. Kicking the corner. Deep three on the way. That one's good. That was Pearson, I believe. They drained that one. Check that. Yeah, Pearson got the three. 28 to 16. Jets down the floor. Got away with a walk.
Deep three by their big man. No good. Rebound by Jones. Falcons got a rebound. Got a little open look now. Let's see if Payne can attack. Payne, double team, triple team. Has to pick up the dribble. Can't do it. Give the Jets credit. They have done a great job of taking Payne away from the Falcons' offense right now. Pearson, top of the key. Lobs it to the corner and he'll lock to the way. Payne was cutting in and the pass was going out. Turnover Florence with 52 seconds to go.
You've got to credit this Jets defense. They have really flustered this Falcon offense. You said it best. Their speed and their length has created fits for the Falcons. Great block from behind by Roy. Excuse me, by Jones. Here comes the Falcons down to Florida and a whistle and they're going to call a jump ball. Possession error will go to the Jets. I think actually it was the right call. I can't see that great. But when Payne went into the lane, the ball stayed and he stayed because he had to come back and grab it.
So it's a jump ball. Possession error goes back to the Jets. Substitutions come back in the game. I believe now coming in for the Florence Falcons will be Roy again. Roy for Chase Young. With 39 seconds to go and Florence trails by 12. This will be a big stop for Florence if they can stop it here. Cleese in the lane. It comes back out. May play for the last shot. Hands it off to Harris. Dakota up top. They've got their original starting five in now. Do the Jets.
They look to pull it back and maybe play for the last shot as Harris has it. To Cleese with 20 seconds to go. Leading the Falcons 28-16. It's been all Jets here in the first half. Florence really fortunate to only be down 12 right now. Let's see if they can hold them to 12. They start to run their offense with eight seconds. Get it to Cleese on the wing. Cleese trying to drive baseline. Pretty good defense. Knocked away. Blocked out of bounds by Irons with .6 on the clock. It'll stay with the Jets.
Irons has done a great job this half. He's probably been the bright point here for the Falcons. Doing all the dirty work underneath between the rebounds and really defending well. The lob will be coming with .6. I almost guarantee it. That was amazing. He talked to Irons who was standing still while the… There's the lob tipped away by Burnett. That's a smart play. Payne actually tipped away. And after one half. The Jets lead the Falcons 28-16. It's not a great half for the Falcons. But at the same time, it might be…
Could be a lot worse. So the Falcons are glad they're only down by 12. So Dylan Burles and his team can adjust here going into the halftime. Welcome back to the TNT Fireworks Halftime Show. Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson on a Friday night. You may be sitting around the fireplace or maybe you're out and about going to get some different things for Christmas. Hope you have a Merry Christmas already. Tell you that today. The Falcons trail the Jets 28-16 here at the half. And Mike Albertson will take the stats right off the bat and tell the story when you see the score.
And a Jets team that went 12 or 13 deep and shot the ball well but really did it with defense, didn't they? They certainly did. You know, and leading the way for the Jets is Nicholas Harris with six points. Isaiah Cleaves with five. Satu Yokota with four. Yeah, Corbin Johnson with two. Brendan Hill with three. Makai Darby with six points. And Alexander Blue finished with two points in that half. Leading the way for the Falcons, we had Zylan Burnett with five points. And J. Sean Pearson with five.
J. Sean Payne with three. And Cooper Fulmer with three points. We've been waiting for the three-point shot. The Falcons will be in deep trouble. I'm not sure exactly how many they hit in the first half, but out of 16 points, was it four? Yes, that appears to be correct. Four three-pointers. So no two-pointers. I think it was a couple of free throws maybe and one two-pointer. There's one two-pointer and two free throws. You know, that's a story of the game. And this defense for the Jets have been smothering.
And if you look up and you're only down 12 and you're Dillon Burleson, you've got to think, you know, we played really not great. We turned it over. We didn't get good shots. And yet, we're only down 12. Right. You know, there's a lot to be said. Defensively, you know, while we were kind of behind the eight ball that first half, we really did a decent job defensively just getting James Clemens off the basket and dictating their shots as well. So while they had better opportunities, mostly off of turnovers, it really turned into one of those defensive battles in that first half.
And yes, while we're down 12 points, you have one of those special quarters and you're right back in it. College football conference championships going on. Even tonight, James Madison leads Troy 17-14 at the half. Kennesaw State leading Jacksonville State, I think, 10-0 early on in that one. And Tulane in North Texas tied early in the second quarter, 7-7. And, of course, tomorrow at the big one in the state of Alabama, Georgia and Alabama from Atlanta, Georgia in the SEC championship. You'll hear it right here on 93-9, the score tomorrow afternoon.
Kickoff for three, I think, free games around noon tomorrow. My apologies, it may even be earlier than that. But we'll have all the action for you here on 93-9, the score. And, Mike, you know, that is, I said it the other night, sort of jokingly, but this could easily be round two or three. And I really mean that. When I look at the college football realm, I think both these teams will probably be in the college football playoffs. I don't see just one team that just leaks out way ahead of everybody else.
And if you, Georgia and Alabama, they've been there and done that before. You put that together and you start thinking, wow, if they hang around enough, they can do it. So, you know, we're looking forward to that game, as I said, noon pregame, kick at three. You're on 93-9, the score. But what's your thoughts on the game tomorrow? You know, I really do. I mean, I think early in the season, Alabama was coming off a loss. Georgia was kind of flying high at that time. Alabama kind of snuck up on them.
I'm looking for a little bit different story. Alabama struggled the last couple of games. While they came away with victories, I really don't think that they're really playing their best ball right now. And, you know, you give Kirby Smart a little bit of time, he might figure it out. So, I might think that Georgia pulls this one off. But, you know, anything goes. These teams are kind of coin flips. They're kind of 1-1-A as far as I'm concerned. You know, then the real playoff happens.
So, it really gets interesting then. We'll have all that action for you here on 93-9, the score. Again, a lot of college football news going on. We've talked about that. Of course, LSU has a new coach. I can't remember his name, but I think he came from Ole Miss. And so, he makes his way down. And he was all over the news. Auburn hires Alex Goldsch. That is a big hire and maybe a really good hire, I think, for Auburn, Mike. And you and I have talked about that.
[46:55] Probably a pretty good job for Auburn right there. Yeah, I think so. You know, kind of flew under the radar a little bit. You heard some names floating around, but really and truly when Goldsch came in, you kind of knew. You kind of knew he has the track record of being able to develop some quarterbacks and do some good things, especially at a school like South Florida. So, I think, you know, just him coming in, he's going to fit in well and keep DJ Durkin as your defense coordinator.
It's going to leave some continuity there, a little roster continuity as well, which is super important in today's game. So, I really do like that hire, and it looks good out on the plains. Well, it's a fun time. It's a fun time of the year, college football coming to a close. I always hate that. We never want to see football season come to a close, but basketball heating up. So, a lot of things going on, and it's going to be a lot of fun in high school, basketball heating up.
You know, this is the first time where the 7A, where these coaches got together and said, look, let's play three of our area games in December and play three in January and then play the area tournament in February. So, I like the way they sort of thought and said, you know, let's spread it out a little more and not have two per week, but maybe one per week. I think it's interesting to see how it plays an earlier start to area play, and the Falcons will have to adjust to it here.
It certainly will. You know, depending on the team, you know, it may have advantages and disadvantages. And I think for the Falcons being such a young team, they're a little bit behind the eight ball there, while this James Clemens team has pretty much the entire returning team, you know, they should have pretty good continuity there. So, while it may hurt the Falcons this year, next year might be a completely different story. You know, you never know. But I think, you know, with the creativity in the scheduling, I think, you know, moving forward, I think that that's probably a pretty solid approach.
We're at the half where Florence trails James Clemens, 28-16. The TNT fireworks halftime show comes to a close. We're back with third quarter action after this one-minute timeout. Bank independent. We're invested in your future. Member FDIC. Back here at James Clemens High School where the Jets lead the Falcons 28-16. Florence Falcon basketball here on 93-9, the score. You're home for Falcons athletics. Since the beginning in 2004, Mike, I've seen a lot of basketball over the years. Of course, last year a magical run with this Falcons team. Dylan Burleson now has a brand-new team in many ways and still piecing it all together this year. But there's a lot of good parts there. Just got a lot of work to do still.
Absolutely. You know, a lot of this comes from experience and playing time. And these guys are really – I mean, this is a total team effort. But, you know, really and truly, they work really hard. And you can see it on the court. But, you know, it may not translate to wins just now. But this team is growing each and every game. Roy will inbound it for Florence. Florence will be cooling right to left as you listen. We're actually in the end zone. So the Falcons are right underneath us.
Back door cut. Payne fell down. Lost at turnover. Goes right back to the Jets. Sort of got pulled down a little bit maybe. And Yokota will have it for the Jets. Roy Pearson irons on the floor along with Pearson and Burnett. The starting five for Florence and the original starting five for the Jets. We lead it by 12. Harris at the elbow. Spins back. Got a good defense right there by the Falcons. Can't get the shot off. Yokota in the lane. Floater up. Bouncing short. No good.
Rebound tipped around. That should be a foul on the Jets. And it is. Good box out. Yeah, it was a great box out underneath by Irons. And Blue came over the top and really pushed through to get the Falcons' possession. Well, Blue having a Blue Christmas after that foul. 12-point lead for the Jets, though. And the Falcons have to break this pressure. Pearson and Payne will be getting a good night's sleep after all the work they've had to do. Cross-court pass in the corner. Three for Burnett on the way.
And it's good. The lefty, the freshman, I believe that's nine on the day for Florence to lead them and score. And they may be wrong, but I think it's three threes. That's eight. Eight, excuse me. 29-18. Yokota. Front court. Jets with a nine-point lead. It's a seven-minute mark. Yokota will try to answer the three. Short. No good. And he got fouled, they say. And Payne didn't think so. But Yokota sold it pretty good. You can't get in this landing area. And that was probably what happened there.
[52:17] I think you're exactly right. Payne wound up trying to contest the shot. And while Saito was coming down, it was a little bit of a flop job there. But as you saw, Payne was right on him. And so it was an easy call. And you don't want to send this juncture to the free throw line. And just as I say that, my announcer, Jeans, works. He misses the first of three. Like I said, he is almost perfect at the line, this Yokota kid. We'll see if it'll work again.
Second free throw. Got that one. One of two. Now the third one. Ten-point lead. 6.55 to go in the third. 29-19. Yokota's third free throw attempt. Missed two of three. Rebound taken by Florence Roy. He gets rid of it. Pearson will get it up the floor. Pearson backdoor cut. Nearly stolen away. But that's there with the Falcons. He's going for irons. You can't be lazy with these passes against this Jets tank, can you? You know, that was a little bit of an ambitious play there. That was a bounce pass from a long ways away.
And the defender was able to get his paw in there and knock it away. Almost causing a turnover for the Falcons. Florence has to take it all the way backcourt. Payne has it. Frankie Sullivan wanted a backcourt call. It was the proper call. They got it right. Pearson free throw line. Can't get the shot off against Yokota. He really wants to clear out. Now he has to pick up his dribble. Give it back to Payne. Payne just hounded there by the defender. Back to Pearson. Pearson gets the screen.
Pearson into the paint now. Pearson looks up and fade away. Shot. Faded good. Teardropped. Fade away jumper good. Cuts the lead to 8, 29 to 21. Falcons hanging around. Dylan Burleson gets down in some defensive stance. Come on. One stop. What does he got to have? Please. Free throw line jumper. Won't go. Rebound. Tipped around. Off the Falcons. Goes right to a jet. Ball still on the floor. Falcons fight for it. Coming out of there is Burnett, the freshman. Down the left sideline. Across the court pass. Got it over to Payne.
Payne tries to get in the lane. Can't do it. Kicked it back out. Pearson. Three on the way. Won't go. Chase down his own rebound. Put it up. Long. Too good. Won't go. Excuse me. Rebound. And a whistle. And it might be a foul. He called it on irons. And he got elbowed in the face. He got slapped. He legitimately got slapped. It was unbelievable. It was clear as day. And Dylan Burleson said, Nate, it's okay. Don't worry about it. Irons really played under control there.
The foul will be on iron. So he got caught for his jaw hitting the elbow of the player for the Jets and the foul on the Florence Falcons. That's the way I'll put it. That's probably about the cleanest way you could put it. Jets lead it by eight and have the basketball. Top of key. They run that flex offense in the corner now. Deep three from the corner of the way. Good. That one goes in. Corbin Johnson. Johnson, excuse me, wears number one. Backcourt pressure. Boy, the Falcons about behind the back dribbles.
Between the legs dribbles. Pearson finally gets up to the court with cleaves all over him. Those two have played a lot of basketball against each other. And a whistle way over from the basket. And they call that on Florence Irons. That they did. He picked up his fourth. I think Irons a little tired of getting hit in the face. Well, he was grabbed by number one, and he just shrugged his arm off of him. And I guess defending yourself is an issue. I'm not sure. 32-21.
The Jets lead it and have the basketball. You have to play through these things even on the road. Cleaves drives him to lane. Put it up off the glass and good. He got a step with a screen. It was the right play there. 34-21 lead back to 13. Roy in front court for Florence. In the corner. Gives you here to Lewis. Lewis double-teamed and faded out of bounds. And they call a push on blue. He pushed him twice. So, I mean, I guess, you know, short of shoving him into the stands, they decide to call that one.
There's a cameraman right on the sideline there that, well, sitting down, laying down, almost too close to the action. He needs to be a further away. It'll be dangerous for players. Pearson to get it inbounds. Gets it to Lewis. Back to Pearson. Down by 13. Needed to just get a basket goer for Florence. Hadn't had, but all three, just about. Lewis almost lost it. Picked it back up. He's got knocked away. Hit from behind. Clipping. Should be 15 yards in the first down. Oh, wait. Wrong sport. But it was a clip.
He literally cut him from behind. Did blue. And, once again, very, very, very slow to the whistle. Guys got to get hit two or three times to get that call. That's kind of wild. I think that's Jones back in the game, correct? Down below us here? Yes, that's zero. So, Jones is in there, along with Lewis, Burnett, Pearson, and Payne. Pearson inbounds it. Gets it to Jones. Jones is double-teamed. Hack, no call. Got it now to Payne. Goes up with the left hand and got that one to go.
[57:24] And timeout taken by Dylan Burleson. He'll take a full timeout. We will as well. Falcons trail by 11. 436 to go in the third. We're back in one minute. Merry Christmas from the Florence Falcons radio crew, and 93-9 the score in this Christmas month. 4.36 to go here in the third quarter. The Falcons trail the Jets 34-23 on this cold December night on the road in Madison, Alabama. Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson high atop the gym here in the end zone where they inbound the pass through the Jets, going the other way against a 2-2-1.
Now it'll be man-to-man pressure, and Cleves will get it up the floor. Cleves fencing from Pearson, but has to pick up his dribble, and they run their motion offense. In the lane, kicks it out in the corner. Can't get the shot off. Now he takes the contested three short. No good, but no, he didn't box out the shooter. That's a freshman mistake, and the rebound taken by the Jets. Burnett did everything right, but he didn't box out the shooter. Driving baseline now. Tough shot. Good. And a foul is called on Jones.
That was just a great play right there. Yeah, Darby moved beautifully along the baseline and got Jones, you know, kind of moving his feet a little bit. Created that contact, got the bucket. Now for the bonus shot. You know, we talk about having left-handers. The Jets have a lot of left-handers as well. That one goes up and no good. Rebound, knocked out of bounds. You were saved by the Jets and put in. I don't know how it wasn't a foul, but Cleves gets it, and that's a four-point swing right there.
15-point lead, 38-23 with four minutes to go, and a near-stealing backcourt. Well, that's tough right there. A lot of defense, a lot of pressure. Lewis will come out of the game. Now White will come in. It feels like we're very lax with the passes, you know, and the guys receiving the passes are waiting for the ball to come to them while the James Clemens team is really closing in on those passing lanes. Payne to Burnett, three on the way. The freshman's not shy, no good. Rebound taken by White.
White goes up, and he's called for a charge. Just checking the game. Jaden White with a great rebound there, you know, and he's a big fella, so any contact whatsoever. He's going to go against him 90% of the time just because of contact. And he's a big, strong kid, and you could tell he got the short end of that one. Going inside, Johnson laid it in. Hesitation move, and that one he lulled the Falcons to sleep in the largest lead of the day at 17, 40-23 with three and a half to go in the third.
After that timeout the Falcons took, it's been all Jets who've gone on a little 7-0 run. In the lane, Payne put it up, put it in to break that run. 40-25. Outlet trying to get a long run out. Great pass inside. Lost the ball on the floor. Fault four, but stepping out of bounds was Burnett. That's unbelievable. I don't think Burnett was out of bounds. I think it was the Jets that was out of bounds. They were both out of bounds with contact to the ball.
You go to the jump ball in that case. They both had their hands on it, but he points at one player and said, no, you're out of bounds. The kid was laying. It's 94 feet away, but I'm going to take your word for it, Mike. That's what I thought, too, because the Falcon player looked very confused. He was laying along the baseline. Fulmer checks into the game. Johnson pushed off. Pullback jumper up and no good. Rebound, good box out by Payne. Gets it to Pearson. He'll bring it up the floor at the three-minute mark.
Down by 15. Got to just chip away for your Florence. Pearson with Cleves all over him. Gets it to Payne in the corner. Payne back to Pearson. Open three on the way. No one go. Rebound inside by Florence. Jones goes up with the left hand. No good. It bounced all around the rim. Wouldn't fall. And the rebound taken down by the Jets. That was a good hard take by Jones right off the glass. Didn't wind up falling for him. That was a nice play, though. Darby trying to drive in the paint.
Step back. Fade away. Jumper up. Good. Now the Jets are playing with a lot of confidence. And they lead it 43-25, I believe, actually. 42-25. 17-point lead. In the lane. A whistle and a foul. Do they give him the basket? I would say probably not. He waved it off. And that's the right call. I wanted the basket. But when you're down 17, you're trying to get everything you can. Not sure how many team fouls that is on the Jets in this quarter. I think that's number two.
[1:02:52] Is that right? That's three. Three. Three team fouls in the quarter. Florence has three as well. Five. Okay. Florence has five. Like I said, it's been an eye surgery week for me. The smaller number is a little harder from 120 feet away. But they'll get better. I'll be with you soon. I promise you, folks. 220 to go. Here's coming to the Falcons. They are going to give them free throws. So if you're going, oh, it's because it's five fouls, you'll get the free throws for that. So Roy will shoot two.
They have it wrong on the screen then. They have fouls three on there. So I don't know what's going on. And now they're going to say, no, you can't shoot free throws. So I was right. My eyes weren't that bad. I don't know if anybody knows what's happening at this rate. It'll be Falcons basketball. They'll end about it. Looking to get it in. Had trouble finally getting the corner to former. Swings it to Payne. Payne. Double-teamed again. Goes by the double-teamed baseline. Now he's Trout knocked away and stolen away.
Taken by the Jets. Here comes the Jets with it down the floor. Johnson had it up, logged up, and knocked it out of bounds. We'll go back to Florence. Turn over the Jets. 17-point lead with 2.10 to go in the third. If you're Florence now, you just want to get this thing down to about 12 if you can. Timeout taken by the Falcons. We'll do the same. Florence trails at 42-25. We're back in 30. Hey, Falcons fans. To be consistently accurate, you need the right equipment, training, and practice.

Florence trails, James Clemens, 42-25, KJ and M.A. Mike Albertson to my left, Kevin Johnson to his right. We're glad to bring you the call on 93-9, the score. But the Falcons right now, just offense has not been there tonight, but you've got to tip your hat to this Jets defense that's been suffocating, Mike. This Jets defense has been really tough and really has caused fits for our guards especially and just really trying to trap quite often and really getting in the passing lane. It's been difficult for the Falcons to get anything going.
Pearson with Cleves on him. That's Yo-Yo with that basketball in the corner. Falcons look to drive, nowhere to go with it, kicked it back out. Pearson lost it, had to pick it back up though is Jones. Jones has to step towards the basket, goes up, put it up, no call. Rebound, got his own rebound, goes back up, put it in. Jones stayed with it, giving credit for that. Now run out on the other end, the Falcons should get a steal, and they do. So Fulmer got the steal, and Payne will come back with it.
Falcons down by 15. Chance to cut it to 12 with a three. Roy, don't want to dribble a whole lot out there because they're all over you. Roy in trouble. Now he logs inside to Fulmer. Fulmer kicks it back around. Payne for three on the way. Grimm wouldn't go. Rebound, yanked down by Florence. Hesitation move, put it back up at a foul, and Florence will shoot free throws. That was a great job by Payne on that one there, getting the rebound. The three-pointer attempt was actually by Jones, who missed it.
But Payne got the rebound on the other end. You're running around with the same haircut. It's difficult. Their hair blocks their numbers, so it's tough for us sometimes. It is a ponytail team. There's three players that have the long hair. And nothing wrong with it, but it's just hard to see the numbers sometimes, especially with 1-0, 1-1. Free throw no good by Payne. Needed everything right now. You're down by 15. Burnett will check back in the game for Florence. What the Falcons really need right now, all right, you need to be able to scrap and claw, yes.
But we've got to develop that dog, that guy that when times get tough, takes over. And just really haven't seen that yet from the Falcons. Second free throw coming. Back room no good. Rebound. Burnett. Oh, and had it knocked away. Still on the floor. I'm taking it by the Jets. Here come the Jets with five new starters in the game. They go baseline. Knocked away, but it goes right back to the Jets. Can't even get the loose balls right now. Burnett will stay on this man out top.
Jets will try to run some clock with a minute to go. Down the lane. Nobody stopped the ball. Lay up. No good. Rebound. Taken down by Florence. Falcons come down with it. Jones has it. Jones looks. Kicks it back out. Pearson swings it around. Baseline. Payne. Lost it. Got it back. Back and forth. Now Payne at the free throw line. Looking. Needs some help. Goes in the corner. Deep three on the way. That one's up and good. That one is Jones who drains the three and cuts it to 12 with 33 seconds to go.
If you can get this down maybe to 10, get another still and get another basket and cut it to 10, you've got a good chance. You can cut it to 12 from 17. The Jets go deep into their bench trying to get some minutes here. Falcons are trying to make a little run here. They're trying to run some clock. So with 16 seconds, if you're Florence, you want to come out. And that's what Dylan Burleson says. Come out. Play a little harder defense. Make it work. Driving. Goes baseline. Deep three from the corner of the way.
[1:08:03] No good. Rebound. Tipped around. Nobody was chasing it down except the Jets. They put it back up. No good. Third time. The Falcons get the rebound. Had no chance to shoot it. And now they'll do it for three quarters. Florence trails James Clemens. Only by 12 now, though. 42-30. This is talking basketball. We're back at 60. Getting the kids to practice on time. Remembering if it's your day to bring snacks. Making it to the game with a clean jersey. Why are simple things sometimes so complicated? And the home team, James Clemens, leads our Florence Falcons, 42-30. Kevin Johnson, Mike Albertson on the road in Madison, Alabama for this first area game of the season. The Jets 4-2 on the season.
Falcons with their first victory this past Tuesday over Muscle Shoals. The Falcons will have Burnett on the floor along with Pearson, Payne, Jones, and Irons, I believe it is. Knocked away and stolen away by the Falcons. Burnett gets it after Irons knocked it away. Pearson has a big possession here. Need points here to get it maybe down to 10. Pearson top of the key, kicks it around. Looking, driving in the paint. Good job by Payne. Put it up. No good. Rebound taken down by the Jets. Outlet pass.
They get out to Yokota. He puts it up and got it in. That's an incredible pass and a catch by Yokota. Cleves with a perfect pass, 44-30. Pearson driving, spinning on Cleves. Fadeaway jumper. Will not go. Touched all the rim, but none of the Nets. Ball still fought for on the floor and taken down by the Falcons. Another three-pointer of the way. Payne drains the three. Needed that one there. Lead back down to 11 with 7.07 to go. Falcons picking up the pressure. Dylan Burleson says, it's not over yet, boys.
I know you got it in you. One more good run and make this thing close. Cleves drives. Puts up. Nope. Throws it outside. Deep three on the way. Too strong. No good. Rebound goes right to Cleves, who laid it up. Missed an easy one. Rebound tipped around. Taken by Cleves again. Put back up. Missed it again. Rebound put up by Blue. And this time they bail him out with a foul after he missed the shot. And after he went over Irons back. He missed the shot.
Went up. And finally the official says, you know, I'm tired of this. Y'all missing shots. I called the foul. That's what it felt like a little bit on that one. But the Falcons couldn't get a rebound on three different tries. Blue came over two guys' backs to get that rebound. And the easiest call of the night. And after he missed the layup, then the whistle blew. And Blue misses the free throw. I don't know what I'm watching half the time. Blue misses the free throw. The end of the game for the Jets will be Hill, who will take the place of Cleves.
Jaden White comes in for Irons. Second free throw. Got that one. One of two. The lead back up to 12. Here's the full court pressure. Pearson double-teamed in the backcourt again. He's trapped in the corner. Has to get rid of it to Payne on the other side. Payne will have to get it across the midcourt strike now. And does right at the center court. Gets a high string. Got it all the way to the baseline. Put it up off the glass. Tough angle. No good. Rebound tipped around and taken down by the Jets.
That was a great rebound by Darby. He's a good-looking player. Up the floor, he gets it to Hill. Jets lead it by 12 with 6.30 to go. I'm sure the Jets had this one circled after last year. Florence knocked out the Jets in the area finals. Deep three on the way. No good. Rebound bounce all the way back out to Yokota. He'll pull up from eight feet. Put up. No good. And again, the Jets get all the rebounds. That's the third opportunity. Down, they'll reset. That's a big part of this game.
And immediately, Dylan Burleson putting another sub incident. Got to get somebody to rebound. The Jets will run some motion offense and run some clock now. Into the lane. Darby. Got a step. Left-hand layup. Got it to go. That was an athletic, acrobatic layup. And the lead back up to 14. Burnett will come down the left sideline. Has to pick up his dribble. Gets it to Jones. Jones looking. Goes into the lane. Kicked in the corner. Deep three by Payne. That one won't go. Rebound chased down by Hill of the Jets.
Right now, the Falcons settling for three. And right now, they're getting one and done. They cannot get the rebounds on the other end. The Jets just a step quicker. Yokota top of the key. Against the man-to-man defense. Step back three short. No good. Rebound. A long rebound. Goes back to the Jets. Harris gets it. Yokota will drop in the lane. This time, the lefty goes up. Scoop layup. No good. Rebound taken away. This time by the Falcons finally. Payne comes out of there with it. Payne to the basket.
[1:13:29] Nowhere to go. Back out to Pearson. As they cut him out. But he's open in the corner for three. That one's good. And one more timeout from Florence. We'll do the same with 5.03 to go. Florence trails 47-36. We're back in 60. This is Miranda Haddock with the Florence Education Foundation. We invite you to support our Friends of the Foundation campaign. Florence Falcon basketball, 93-9 the score, KJ and M.A. with you. Where Florence trails at 47-36, I think Dylan Burleson might have used his final timeout. I don't think he has one left. He's used a lot, but we'll see. He may have one left, but I think he did. He should have one or two foals left. I know he used up all his 30s.
Falcons full court pressure. Darby got it up the floor and gets rid of it. Florence down by 11. Will have to play defense in the last five minutes and make something happen. Roy will come out and guard Cleves now. Cleves gets a step, comes back out. He's very much like a J-shot Pearson for the Jets. He's a smart player, handles the basketball well, and wants the ball in his hands at all times. Cleves now to the right. Of course, you hear Cleves in a point guard. You think about Mateen Cleves, who played at Michigan State.
That's why he wears the number 11, too. Double team on your coat. He's in trouble. He got rid of it down to the baseline. Now trying to go baseline. Cross court pass. They got it to Darby. Up and under, and he's fouled. He'll have to shoot two free throws. The Falcons went for the trap, and the Jets didn't panic. They finally got the pass underneath, and they get to the free throw line. Yeah, this Jets team is very poised. They're very, they've seen all these situations. You know, as we've said before, this starting five has seen a lot of basketball and had a lot of success last year.
So, you know, just being able to have that continuation of this season, they're going to have a special year this year. You can tell just by the way they're playing early on. First free throw, good to make the lead, 12. By the way, the Lady Falcons knocked off James Clemens. That's a big win for the Florence Lady Falcons. Second free throw, got them both. 13-point lead for the Jets with 4.18 to go. And every possession will matter for the Falcons down the stretch. Frankie Sullivan imploring his team to play defense.
Payne, yo-yos with it up top with Harris on him. Tries to go to the left. Bounce pass down in the corner. Deep three on the way by Burnett. Stuck a wedgie up on the glass. And the possession air will go to the Jets, I believe. No, is it Florence's ball? It's Florence. Yep, Florence's basketball. 4.03 to go. Falcons inbound and underneath. Roy has it. Roy gets it to Pearson, who's fouled on the three-point shot. No call. Burleson, Coach Burleson, wanted the call. Didn't get it. Shot's missed and rebound taken by the Jets.
They kick it out to the corner. Save it in the bounce to Harris. And move it back around to Cleese. He says, I'll hold it right here. Falcons are running and chasing. They're going to have to really do a lot to get after the basketball here. In the lane, Darby put it up shot. Knocked away. And they call out of bounds. Last up by Jets. And the Florence will get the basketball. Speaking of Roy, Cage Roy. Been fun to watch the Super 7. Our good friend, Roy Parker, who's been helping take care of people.
He's become one of our heroes in high school sports. Stolen away by the Jets. They've got a run out. Darby all the way will lay it up in the end. And they do it right there. 51-36. They've worn the Falcons down a little bit tonight with their pressure defense. And Depp have the Jets. And they lead it by 15 with 3.08 to go. Roy has it for Florence. Kicks it off to Burnett. Burnett double-teamed. Gets rid of it. Looking nowhere to go. Still having pressure on the defender here.
Florence has the basketball. Burnett to the basket. Missed the shot. Got his own rebound. Put it up. Put it in. He goes to double figures, I believe, on the night. For the Falcons, if I'm not mistaken. 51-38. He has 10 on the day. The Jets don't have to shoot it again. They lead it by 13 with 2.38. Florence will have to chase. Now they will take a deep three. And they missed it. No good. I don't know. Frankie Sullivan thinks, what are you doing? But the rebound's up and good.
[1:18:48] That's put in by Ballou. Yep, Ballou puts that in. 53-38. 15-point lead with 2.20 to go. Roy gets it to Payne. Payne drops in the lane. Teardrop. Good. And the final timeout of the day for Florence's Dylan Burleson with 2.09 to go. 53-40. Falcon basketball returns in 30 seconds. At North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic, our shoals' roots run deep. As UNA Athletics' choice for orthopedics and the trusted orthopedic team of the shoals' families for over 30 years, North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic is here for you. Learn more at nabjc.com. 2.09 to go. Florence trails at 53-40. That's been all jets from the first quarter on. If they let it early on swell to 7. 28-16 at the half and 42-30 after 3. Now lead at 53-40. Kevin Johnson and Mike Albertson. Mike, before I get away, we were talking about our good friend Roy Parker, who is an older gentleman, retired, that has been working the 7A state championship.
And every time you look on the TV for the head coach, he's the one that's taking care of him. He's a legend down there. He certainly is. You know, just being able to meet Roy and just seeing all the impact that he's had throughout the years. You know, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame inductee for all of his charitable work over the years. Just one of those guys that you just love to know. Just a pleasant guy to be around. A lot of fun. And it was great to be around him last year.
And the Falcons forced a turnover. They'll get the basketball back. So it's offense for defense there. Relentless pressure in the corner there. The jet kind of panicked. Dribbled the ball off his knee as he was going down that base arm. So Flores have to inbound it from deep in their own corner, which is not easy. Blue is on him. Falcons traded the third thing with 2-7 to go. Have to lob it up top. Finally get to Pearson. It's actually Burnett. Burnett has it. Now to Pearson.
Pearson in the paint. Got Burnett open. Three ball from the corner. Need it. Didn't get it though. Rebound tipped around. Taken down by the Jets. And finally a foul called on Florence. Reaching in. May get Fulmer from behind. Yeah, Cooper Fulmer was trying to make a hustle play there. Wound up making contact with the jet who wound up on the ground. Defense for offense. Substitution. Berski will come in to play in the pressure defense. The Jets look to get inbounds. Finally get into the Darby. Double team in backcourt.
Blows it up the court and frontcourt. No, I should have been backcourt nearly, but Cleves was quickly down there. And they called a foul on Florence, reaching in on Fulmer. Almost backcourt, Cleves established position in the court before he touched the ball. That was a heady play. If he did what he should have done, but he let the ball bounce again before he got it. That was a smart play. Baseline move by the Jets. Shot no good. Rebound tipped around. Tried to save the bounce and Falcons get it.
Coming out of there is Fulmer. Gets it down on the floor quickly. Knocked away. Did they say somebody touched it? Nope. Say nobody touched it. It'll go back to the Jets. Fulmer threw it a little bit behind Burski. Burski was trying to make a move to try and get that ball, but it was already out of bounds. It's a tough play. 133 to go. 53-40. Will be a brief post game at this one. Frontcourt. Finally, the Jets get it. Got a run out. Blue lays it up.
Put it in. 55-40 with 124 to go in the game. The Jets have cruised to this one. They put it on autopilot a little bit. They've done it with pressure defense. Pearson, great shot. Put that one up off the glass in the end. Cuts it to 13. No quit, but the Falcons in deep trouble. Nearly still in the way in backcourt. And what are they going to do? They're going to call a foul here? So, the official from 94 feet away will come up and call a foul. Yeah, and he made a show of it, too, which was cute.
Yep. Dylan Burleson's like, okay. He was the furthest guy away from the play. The guy that was literally three feet away from him didn't blow the whistle. But the one right in front of Frankie Sullivan comes running up and says, oh, that was a foul. I'm not saying it wasn't. My view was blocked, but the official from the furthest way came running. It wasn't his call regardless. Yeah, that's the. In a three-man crew, it's not his call. And that's the thing that coaches, that referees hate coaches to say, it's not your call.
[1:23:50] But that was exactly what it was. That was not his call. But it'll send to the free throw line. The Jets to shoot two with 106 to go, leading it by 13. The game's already in hand. It was completely unnecessary. Free throw up and good by the Jets. Johnson, Corbin Johnson, where's number one? These two teams will meet again in Florence in 2026. Is he a cousin of yours? A distant, distant, distant cousin. The way he shoots basketball, free throws there. We may be more related than I realize.
One or two. Burnett, crossover dribble in the lane. Goes up with the left hand. Got it. He's got a lot of ceiling left in him. That's only a freshman. Police is going to be fouled. And he was. He was being ridden quite a bit. Burnett was pretty aggressive, trying to get that ball back. A lot of contact on the way down the court. The freshman may be leading us in scoring tonight, or close to it. Cleves will shoot two. I think it appears early on, from a quick viewing, he's number two in scoring.
Number two in the day. First free throw good by Cleves. Next week, we'll have several games for you here on 93.9 to score as well. Second free throw good by Cleves. Tuesday night at home versus Bob Jones. Friday night at home versus Austin. Payne will pull up for three. Won't go. Rebound by Cleves. With 38 seconds to go. Still pressuring him back court. The Jets break the pressure to get it up the court. Cleves will get it over to a teammate. He puts it up. And no good.
He was fouled. That was the right call. He did foul him. It was. Burnett, at this point, he's, I mean, he's playing really hard defense. But, you know, you see the freshman a little bit lose control of his body for a second there and really hip-checked the Jets here for the foul. First free throw is good for Knapp. T.J. Knapp. 59-44, 15-point lead. This would make it 16, and he hits it. The Jets dress about 14 players, and they played about 13. And Franken-Settler has a really good team, no doubt.
Burnett for Florence. Behind the back dribble. Pulls back. Gets it over to Pearson. Pearson. Step back. Can't get the shot off. Gets it to Payne. Back to Pearson. He'll take the deep three. That one's good. 60-47, but there's all it's going to do is run out the clock. No need to foul here. So that will do it. Final score. The Jets knock off the Falcons. 60-47. We're in Florence, fall 60-47 on the road to James Clemens in area play, game one.
Several games left play, in area play, but the first one goes to James Clemens as they win it today by 13 over Falcons. An impressive job by the Jets. Falcons fought hard, did not have their best game, but stayed with them, but just could not break it down into single digits. Felt like if Falcons got it down to eight or seven in the fourth quarter, had a chance, but just never could get there, Mike. Couldn't get there. Really, the Jets kind of sailed through that game in many ways.
[1:28:55] Not a lot of pressure was applied to the team. So, you know, if we were able to break it down to single digits and make it a little bit closer, you know, things get a little bit tighter, you never know. But it was never really a question there. The Jets came out hot, and they played well defensively, especially in that first half, and really took control of this game. And it was kind of smooth sailing in the second half for them. It really was. And the Jets, with a big second quarter, outscored the Falcons 16-9 in that second quarter.
Sort of pushed that lead out from five up to 28-16 at 12, and really never let the Falcons get back to single digits. And the Falcons find themselves on the short end 60-47 tonight. To the Jets and James Clemens, our TNT fireworks postgame show today. Mike Albertson, I'll let you do the final stats brought to us by our good friends at Chick-fil-A. They're open this weekend as well in Florence. Take it away. Thank you very much, Kevin. So, for the James Clemens Jets, Mekhi Darby finished with 16 points.
We had Isaiah Cleaves with 11. Alexander Blue with 7. Saito Yokota with 7 points. Nicholas Harris with 6. TJ Knapp with 2. Brendan Hill finished with 3 points. And Corbin Johnson with 8 points leading the way for the Falcons. Jaceon Payne with 18. Jay Shaw Pearson with 12. Zylan Burnett with 12 points. 5 points for Taylor Jones and 3 for Cooper Fulmer. Falcons find themselves down 12-7 after 1. Then the second quarter was disastrous. Not disastrous, but the Jets really turned up the pressure. 28-16. The Falcons fought hard in the third quarter, but it never got any closer.
It was still 42-30. It was a 12-point game there. And in the final, 60-47. A 13-point win for the Jets, who go to 5-2 on the season. Florence will return back to action next week. They'll have, if I'm not mistaken, three games. We'll have two of those here. All three are at home, if I'm not mistaken, as well. So, a lot of chances to come out and see the Falcons at the coffee gym. It's a good team. It's a young team Florence has, but a chance to improve, obviously.
A lot of pieces there still coming together. But don't doubt these Falcons. They're going to be after it in every game. They've competed in every game, too. So, let's see how they do next week when they have a couple more area games with Bob Jones and Austin coming to the coffee gym. Well, that's going to do it for us tonight on the TNT Fireworks Post Game Show. For our station manager, Greg Thornton. For Blair Krieger in our 93.9 The Score studios.
