[0:00] Now, get ready to roll Shoals, Decatur, Athens and all of Northwest Alabama and Southern Tennessee. It's time for the Valley's exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Good afternoon and welcome here to the Boomo Bugg Show. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Brett Beaird, welcome in. Big day for UNA. About to get the ball rolling on the hardwoods.

And the UNA band literally marching in to the Big Apple for a pretty big parade. Good afternoon. Welcome in and how are you? Happy Tuesday to you and the listeners. Yes, UNA band is going to be featured on the Macy's Day Thanksgiving parade. Big honor for them. Auburn basketball beats Oregon 84-73 in Las Vegas, but Nate Oates and Alabama can't survive Gonzaga's final run and lose 95-85 to the Zags. Las Vegas insider Bruce Marshall will preview the top games in college football for Rival Week. But Andrew is here right now to update Alabama recruiting before National Signing Day, December the 3rd.

Yeah. And to preview the Iron Bowl. Hard to believe. It's right around the corner on both fronts. And speaking of front, he is front and center. On this Tuesday before Turkey Day, Andrew Bone, flying columnist, recruiting editor for BamaOnline.com. You check it out, part of the On3.com family. And then we mention his book, in case you're looking for that perfect stock and stuff for Bama fans. It's called The Road to Bama. Andrew Bone, would you agree with that or not? How are you? Hey, yeah, I'd agree with it.

How are you guys doing? Hey, buddy. We're doing all right, Andrew. Obviously, a lot to unpack here. Got the Iron Bowl. Recruiting, it's hard to believe. What, one week, one day away? They used to call it the early signing period. Let's just call it the signing period. Before we talk about who may be signing, let's talk about the latest news, which this pendulum goes both ways. You get the commits. You get the decommits. Talk to us about the latter with the young man from California. Yeah, that's right.

Sam Utu, offensive lineman from Orange Lutheran in California, decommitted from Alabama on Monday night, which we kind of knew was coming. We posted this on Bama online last week. It certainly seemed like things were heading in that direction. I think it's something that I wouldn't say it has been kind of lingering for a while, but I do think it was something that kind of happened within the last few weeks. Sam had not visited Alabama since June. His official visit was in early June. It wasn't late June.

It was early June, June the 6th. So he hadn't really been to Tuscaloosa since then. He's been focused on his season. Like I said, he had not been able to get back. There were some other schools that started pressing late for him, some schools that had been involved very early in the process and had continued to recruit him throughout the year. And I think that he had some questions kind of about his future at Alabama, you know, from talking to the coaching staff. And I just think that he decided that it was in his best interest to go ahead and reopen his recruitment.

And also, from just talking to various people, I don't think he wanted to be disrespectful to Alabama by just announcing a flip to another school. I do think he probably knows where he wants to go. SMU seems like the school that has garnered all of his attention at the moment. But, like I said, I think he wanted to show some respect to Alabama, just decommit and then commit in a few days. So we're going to watch and see where he ends up going. But, you know, Alabama currently has three offensive line commitments.

And, you know, if you followed us and read our stuff six months ago, we talked about how we thought that Alabama would only sign three offensive linemen in this cycle. That changed when they evaluated and offered Jared Doty out of Atlanta this season. So they got a commitment from him, top 100 kid that they really like a lot. So, you know, now you just kind of wait and see, you know, what they're going to do. I do think that they are going to add at least one more player between now and next Wednesday.

You know, does that come from somebody in junior college? Will it come from, you know, potentially a high school kid? I think we're just kind of waiting to see. I think there's probably a better chance of a JUCO player at this time. Not going to say who, but I will say that, you know, they have been in communication with somebody that they're keeping under wraps right now. But if you see a JUCO offensive line commitment in the next couple days, just don't be surprised. Andrew, J.J. Finch, four-star defensive lineman from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.

[5:34] Been a Bama commitment for a while, but he's been probably the best word guy I could use, flirting with Tennessee for the last couple of weeks. I know some sources say he's still solid to Alabama. Your thoughts, will Kaelin DeBoer be able to keep Finch in the signing class, number one? And number two, Samson Gash, a Michigan State commitment who came in for a visit, going to the state playoffs, 1,000 yards, 12 touchdowns, receiving a fast due to 10-4 in the 100-meter dash. Will Alabama keep J.J. Finch, and could they flee up Michigan State commitment, Samson Gash?

Yeah, so it's the final week before the early signing period, and you never know what can possibly happen. And you have a lot of these last-minute pitches to recruits, you know, trying to sway them one way or the other. And, you know, sometimes the offers are a lot bigger than what they originally were. So you kind of have to wait and see, you know, how that kind of shakes out. Finch is one of those kids that committed to Alabama in June. He visited a few times, really likes Alabama a lot, was in Tuscaloosa for the LSU game earlier this month.

But Tennessee's been a program that he's also been very high on for at least a year. I mean, they've recruited him just as long as Alabama has. He's been to Knoxville a few times, including a game in October. So, you know, they're certainly pressing hard to flip him. But, you know, as of today, you know, still feel like Alabama's in the best position with him. But, you know, we're not ready to say, you know, it's a 100% locked-in, done deal by any means. We're going to kind of wait and see, you know, what he says.

Because I talked to his, you know, grandmother here recently who's, you know, he's very close with, who goes on all the visits with him. And she said, you know, he is committed, but, you know, still listening to, you know, hear what Tennessee's got to say. So until he actually comes out and says, hey, I'm shutting things down or, hey, I'm flipping. We're all just kind of on standby with J.J. Finch. And I would say as far as, you know, any other Alabama commitments that we're still kind of watching, you know, Brian Williams, wide receiver out of Florida, First Academy in Orlando.

You know, that's a guy that we have, we've mentioned a few times on BOL that, you know, it doesn't seem like he's going to end up being in the class. Now, he's still committed right now. But, you know, would not be surprised if we saw him, you know, reopen things. He was in Tuscaloosa for the Tennessee game last month, his only visit this season. And, you know, we just haven't really heard, you know, a lot really going on, you know, with him in Alabama. So we'll see if he ends up, you know, deciding to stay in the class or potentially goes elsewhere.

And then I would say one other guy we're also, you know, still monitoring until the end is going to be Nolan Wilson, the top 100 defensive lineman out of Mississippi. He turned down some pretty significant offers when he committed to Alabama back in July. You know, I think one school almost more than doubled, you know, the number that I think Alabama was giving to him. So I think that, you know, he has continued to listen to some other pitches this season. Now, he's been solid with his commitment.

He's been to Tuscaloosa just about every single weekend. Alabama was the first school to offer him. Freddie Roach has done a really good job there. But, you know, there are some big numbers still kind of flying around that he's, I think, at least listening to. I'm not going to say he is flipping, but I think he's at least listening. And we're going to have to kind of see how that one plays out. But as of right, if I was making a prediction as of today what he's going to do, I will say that he is going to stick with Alabama as of today.

Well, that changes the next day. We'll have to kind of wait. That's right. You know, you mentioned Samson Gash. I mean, this is a wide receiver who Alabama offered during the summer. But they also told him at the time, hey, we can't take a commitment from you right now. We got some other guys that we're waiting to see what happens with them. We want to wait and see how you do as a senior. Because all they saw him, they saw him one time at a football camp.

They wanted to kind of see him on the field this season. And he ends up committing to Michigan State after going to Alabama's football camp with not having the ability to make a decision right then. Alabama circled back, started recruiting him this fall, you know, really liked, you know, the way he performed, brought him down for an official visit. And, you know, as of right now, still just kind of trying to figure out what he wants to do. His high school team is still in the state playoffs.

[10:36] So he's been focused on that. I think they're playing a state title game this weekend. So he says that he's not going to make a decision until after that. So his title game is on Sunday, so we won't know. I guess we probably won't know anything until the week of the early signing period. I think he can go either way right now. He lives in Detroit, been committed to Michigan State, you know, like I said, since the summer. He's pretty much the top recruit in their class, so you can kind of expect, you know, they're trying to make sure that he's happy.

He's probably going to get, I would say, out of all the recruits in their class, he's probably going to get the most money, you know, promised to him out of everybody else. You know, does that play a significant factor? You know, we'll just have to kind of wait and see. He's not going to be the, he wouldn't even be the top receiver on the Alabama end as they have Sidarian Morgan, you know, top three wide receiver in the country. So you have to kind of just wait and see.

And it's not all about, you know, money for these kids. But when you're getting, you know, let's just say a very low number compared to a very, very high number, you know, sometimes that does make a pretty big factor. Because it was with all of us that we were making that decision based on where we wanted to go next year. Jerry McGuire says, show me the money. Don't ever think that these kids aren't using Alabama for leverage to get more money wherever else they want to go.

Andrew Bone in the huddle with us. Andrew, talk to us about Saturday's game on the plains with Alabama and Auburn. Oh, it's, you know, another one of those games. You just, you know, I guess at the beginning of the season, you just start thinking, yep, it's probably going to come down to that game for one way or the other. And it seems to be that, you know, every single year. I think the last three times, you know, Alabama's gone to Auburn, you know, the game has been decided by three points or less.

And there's always, you know, massive implications on the line. Often, more often than not, it's more so for Alabama than it is for Auburn. But they've also been, you know, some big games for Auburn as well for them to be able to go on to, you know, compete for an SEC title or even just make it to a bowl game. I mean, you've got players on your team who've been, you know, have gone through so much throughout the year and they've, you know, done everything, you know, in their minds the right way.

And they've got to win this game to go to a bowl game. You know, for Alabama, you know, the same thing. But it's for a much bigger prize, obviously. So you've got two teams that are trying to do everything they can to win this game this weekend. And it's going to be, it's going to be fun. It's going to be interesting to see kind of how it all shakes out on Saturday. I mean, I don't think I can say it's going to be a blowout at all.

I mean, just based on the history of these games, especially in Auburn, you know, they're all usually pretty close. So I'm interested to see how it plays out, but also interested to see how, you know, Coach DeBoer and his staff handle that pressure because it is massive pressure to go into Auburn. And it's something that most of the people on that staff have not experienced yet. And, you know, most of us who've followed it or been fans and who've lived in the state and gone to these games, we completely understand what it's like to go into Auburn, you know, for that game or, you know, vice versa, Auburn coming to Tuscaloosa.

I mean, it's, you know, such big implications. And, you know, we used to talk about it in the state because, you know, 365 days a year, you know, bragging rights. But now it's just like, you know, are you going to go to a – is this going to derail you from your season of going to a playoff or a potential national championship or an SEC championship or, you know, like I said earlier, you know, just getting to a bowl game? So it's going to be – it's going to be a war on Saturday, I can tell you that, because, you know, these players certainly, you know, on both teams are going to want it as much as anybody else.

Absolutely. Great stuff, as always. I know you're going to be monitoring flips, the commitments for National Signing Day. As Harold said, it's amazing that we're a week away. And I certainly enjoy your columns, your grades. On Sunday, you come out with your grades for offense, defense, special teams, et cetera. And everybody knows you as the recruiting guru, but you have done a really good job as far as a columnist for BAM Online. And as Harold Bugg mentioned, if you're looking for that special gift for an Alabama fan, I can't think of anything better than the road to BAM.

[15:48] Where can we find you online and where can we buy the book? Yeah, definitely, you know, I appreciate that. You know, come to BAMonline.com. But also, you know, most importantly, our community, our message board is, you know, where Alabama fans are at every single day, you know, talking about, you know, so many different subjects.

You know, not just football, basketball, and recruiting, but, you know, you name it. There's definitely a thread on BOL talking about it with a lot of comments. So, come check us out. And, you know, also, you mentioned the book, The Road to Bama. You can definitely search for it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, and, you know, get a copy for yourself or a loved one this holiday season. Andrew, I echo the Simmons to BB. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. It is truly something to give thanks for, and that is that Andrew Adelson can take time out of her busy schedule there at ESPN to join our little huddle here. Double A, welcome in. Happy early Thanksgiving to you. How are you? Happy Thanksgiving, fellas. So grateful that you keep asking me to come on week after week, year after year. It's our pleasure. I mean, is there no one else? You've got to resort to me. I mean…

You are… Listen, that's a no-brainer. That is a no-brainer. I wish all decisions were that easy, Andrew. Let me ask you this. Who's more fired up, Florida fans or Florida State fans? Or are both saying, thank God and Graham, the English year. Well, let's see, fellas. Are we talking about the Norvell situation only? Because I can tell you the Florida State fans were upset and the Gator fans were absolutely celebrating that decision. But we're talking about the Lane Kiffin situation. I think it's probably opposite. Because, fellas, I don't know if y'all remember this, but when Mike Norvell was in the running for the Alabama job a few years ago, the number one candidate on the Florida State list was Lane Kiffin.

They had their plane all ready to go to Oxford to sit down and talk to him if Mike had left. And now it's, what, two years later and Florida State's biggest rival may end up with Lane Kiffin on their sidelines? Man, it's been a wild two years, guys. Andrew, what's the fact that it was, Fish? I mean, let's face it. Lane can say this. He's used the same script every one of his places in Tennessee, with the Oakland Raiders. I mean, you name it. Lane's being Lane.

He didn't exactly have a glorious ending at Alabama. You've got to go where the money is, I guess. If that's the most important thing, it's a no-brainer as far as decision. But once all the dust settles, where is Lane Kiffin going to be picking up his mega millions? Well, should I ask the Magic 8 ball? Because I think that probably has a better chance of giving a right answer than me at this point. I don't know. And I feel like maybe this is part of it, is Lane likes to keep people guessing, and he's wildly unpredictable.

And that's kind of the way he likes it, right? That's his brand. That's his brand. That's what he says. That is his brand, absolutely. Like, if he has, quote-unquote, changed in Oxford for the better, well, I mean, his personality has remained the same, right? Right, right. I mean, he's still a guy. Loves attention. He loves attention. Correct. Loves attention, likes to troll people, you know, likes to be the guy that everyone's talking about, so on and so forth, and likes to be somebody that isn't going to have you guessing what his next move is going to be.

In fact, I got something, I'm working on it right now, it's up on my screen for later this week, like making the case for each school that he's potentially considering, right? I mean, if I'm him, and I've got a great thing going at Ole Miss, and you can essentially carve your name into the Mount Rushmore of legends to come through Ole Miss if you continue on the path that you're headed, CFP, right, compete for a conference, national championship, you've proven you can do that there, right?

[26:07] Right, right, right. And the other places you want to go to have had a bunch of dysfunction here in recent times. If you're Lane and you're looking at this situation at Ole Miss unfolding with Brian Kelly and the school not wanting to pay the terms of the contract, why would you want to go there? I mean, forget about the governor and all the other stuff that goes along with the LSU job. We're talking about, right now, a lawsuit that has been filed because the school doesn't want to pay out the terms of a contract.

Why would you go there? It's a Hollywood marriage. Right, we're going to give you $90 million, except we might not, because we don't speak to our word, right? So, okay, that's red flag number one at LSU. And now we'll talk about my alma mater, right? A school that has an interim president right now, a school that has an athletic director that has not made great hires in the recent past in football. Yes, he has an extension, but I think there's a lot of skepticism about a possible relationship and partnership with Lane, given their wildly different personalities.

How exactly would that work? And I have to remind people of this, especially Gator fans, right? Florida has not won an SEC championship since 2008. And that has become a school now that is a revolving door of coaches. You get three years, and then we're not going to be happy with you if you don't win an SEC and you're done. And they've lost so much ground to Kirby Smart. So I can sit here and go on and on with the cons on Florida because of what that situation has evolved into.

And then it leads you to, well, why don't you just stay? But on the flip side of it, guys, if you're looking at Florida, okay, and I'm going to put LSU to the side for a second because they got the money and they have the track record. If you're looking at Florida and you know that Lane Kiffin grew up idolizing Steve Spurrier, whereas the Visor, because of Steve Spurrier, is basically Steve Spurrier 2.0. And he'll be given anything and everything he could possibly want to succeed and has a quarterback in place that he can work with and develop, and he can recruit his buns off in that state.

Yeah, Florida looks pretty good, and you can be the savior that brings the program back. So I don't know what he's going to do. People have told me it's between staying in Florida and LSU is not really in it. I'll believe it on Saturday when we get a final answer, guys. Double A, let me ask you about plan B. Again, if Kiffin either goes to LSU or stays at Ole Miss, I've heard Jed Fish, the Washington coach, Florida alumnus, has got ties to Spurrier, Jeff Fromm at Louisville.

I know they've gone south in the last month as a program. Clark Lee, I don't know if I'd use the word shop in his name, but Clark Lee's been out there even on Auburn's short list. Jon Sumrall's on everybody's list. Eli Drinkwith is another name that pops up. What's plan B for the Gators? Cry? No, in all seriousness, one of those guys on that list, I heard Brent Key was another name that they had vetted out, but I feel like the way they lost to Pittsburgh last week probably has taken his name off of that list.

And so, you know, I think the problem here for Florida is just like the last time with Billy Napier when they talked to Lincoln Riley and tried to, you know, swing for the fences and missed wildly, you end up settling for somebody and your fan base knows that you're settling for somebody and it takes a lot of the excitement out of the hire. And that's what it would feel like once again for Florida, right? If you're not going to get your top choice, you're just going to bring in a guy that, what, is kind of like Billy Napier, right?

I mean, which of all those guys makes you feel like, wow, we really upgraded over Billy Napier or even Dan Mullen, you know, to a greater extent, right? So I don't know. I think it's going to be a really tough situation that Florida is going to face if they don't get Lane because the hopes of the entire fan base are so high right now that they're going to be able to get their modern-day version of Steve Spurrier that if they don't, how do you sell Jed Fish or Eli Drinkwitz or Clark Lee?

Like, how do you sell that to the fan base? It's going to be really hard. Yeah, well, that was my wife's fourth choice, so it is possible. So let me ask you this, Andrea, what's the final score of Saturday night when Alabama plays Auburn? Oh, my gosh. Okay, so I have to do this, like, video on why Auburn has a chance to win the game. And so, you know, I'm like, I know there have been some upsets in that stadium. Let me, let our fine folks at the ESPN, you know, Staff and Information Group, tell me, how many times Auburn has won as an underdog because crazy things generally happen, right?

[31:30] They've won five times as an underdog since 2002. So I'm not going to sit here and say, oh, yeah, it's a slam dunk that Alabama's going to win. I don't know that for a fact. I mean, didn't Nick Saban say that Jordan Hare was haunted last year when he was on game day? And I got to, I got to sit out the folks at AL.com because they've got a story today, like, trying to figure out, wait, is Jordan Hare haunted? And they talked to some people.

It's actually a fun story if folks want to check that out. But I think Alabama will win, but I do think it's going to be a close game because, generally speaking, that's how rivalry games go. And I don't think Alabama has got as complete a team as they have in the past. Even those complete teams struggled there at times, as you guys know. And Auburn's fighting to get to a bowl game, and this is a team that hadn't given up. So they know what's on the line here, and I'm sure they'd love nothing more than to ruin Alabama's season.

And forget about getting to bowl. I think they'd love nothing more than to ruin Alabama's season. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. The Score. Welcome back in. It's a pretty popular place these days with Alabama and Auburn and Bruce Marshall. It's called Las Vegas. Bama and Auburn are visitors. Bruce Marshall calls it home when he's not on the road. Busy there with the Las Vegas Insider. Also, BAM SportsNotNet. CBS Sportsline winners and whiners, parlays and picks. Or the other way, picks and parlays and also Bette Rivers. Vegas Insider. He is a busy boy and he is Bruce Marshall.

Bruce, welcome in. How are you? Well, I'm going to announce what I'm going to do on Friday for the whole world to know. I guess that's just following, you know, Lane Kiffin. Just a couple things about Kiffin, because I know I want to touch on that really quick. Yeah. You know, I think this is going to happen to LSU. But what I think is worth noting, now, LSU is really no different. USC, post-John McCain, Nebraska, post-Dr. Tom, Texas, post-Daryl Royal, they've all continued to go through coaches.

The thing about LSU is, since Charlie Mack retired, and poor Bull Rain right after that, but we're talking 45 years, the only two coaches who have left there who weren't fired were Bill Arnsparger and Saban. And neither one of those left really warm and fuzzy. Arnsparger got very upset at LSU, took the AD job at Florida Saban, of course, we know, went to the Dolphins, that was, rubbed some people the wrong way, that was handled. But in the interim there, look, Jerry Stovall, fired. Mike Archer, fired.

Curly Hallman, fired. Jerry DiNardo, fired. Les Miles, fired. Ed Orgeron, fired. Brian Kelly, fired. And all those guys, except Hallman, had some success. So if Lane's taking this job, he better go in with his eyes open. It's like, you know, a guy marrying Jaja Gabor. I mean, you've got to know what you're getting into. Oh, my goodness. Two other asides real quick. You've got to remember, these LSU people are all getting excited about this. Al Davis, now this is when Kiffin was younger. When Al Davis fired him from the Raiders, and Davis was involved in a lot of controversies, but when it came to coaches and players, and he fired several coaches and had feuds with players like Marcus Allen, never really went public with that too much.

[42:26] He did some of the stuff with Roselle, but not players or coaches. When he fired Lane, he ended up having a PowerPoint presentation, a press conference. I've never seen that. He disliked Kiffin so much. He actually went to that extent. And Al was pretty old then. And one last note, if Kiffin, you know, he's been in the SEC, but the SEC ain't, it ain't the big, it's a lot tougher than the Big Ten. And they just chewed up Kelly, you know, who knows if Lane is going to be able to win like they think he is.

And just look at the bottom half of the Big Ten compared to the bottom half of the SEC. There's no comparison. This league chews up coaches. It hasn't chewed up Lane yet, but he better be careful. Where are they going to get all that money, Bruce? I mean, you look at the buyout of all the coaches they've already got, you know, they're promising the world and then some to Lane. And to me, the X factor with Lane is he wants, his ego is that big. He wants to be top notch as far as a salary, king of the hill there.

But more importantly, or equally important to that, he wants the most NIL money because Lane listens to his boss, Nick Saban. Nick says, I'm not going to be the smartest man in the room. If you're going to win, you better have a bankroll to go buy your players. Where are they getting all that money, Bruce? Good question. I mean, they are, they are tapping all the donor bases there. Apparently they think they've got it at LSU, but you wonder, you know, this is just, this is going to fall Lane every, every time there's an opening, no matter what, you know, and the NFL is going to, it's going to come up.

I mean, this has been an annual thing with Kiffin and fire beware on both sides. I mean, Kiffin's got to know what he's getting into, but LSU better realize what they're getting into as well. This is, you know, this, this might be a little bumpier than they think. We'll see it. It's not officially yet, but I think that's, what's going to happen. We love rival week. So many great games, so many rivalries that we followed over the years. You can imagine where we're going to start.

Alabama, five and a half point favorite over Auburn. Alabama's needed a minor miracle the last two trips to the Plains. The Alabama defense first game of the year looked terrible against Florida State. Now they lead the SEC in total defense. It's been quite a change. Again, Womack deserves a lot of credit for that. Auburn quarterbacks, Ashton Daniels, Deuce Knight, very impressive in their debut, their debuts, but they started one game, one game. I haven't heard anybody talk about that. Alabama, five and a half at Auburn.

Will Alabama win and cover? I think they win. I don't know if they cover, because like you, I remember the last two games there that they were as harrowing as you can be to escape those. And that was one with Hugh Freeze two years ago, and it was Harsin four years ago at Auburn. And before that, you know, they had lost the previous two at Jordan-Hare. So this has been kind of a home-oriented Iron Bowl series. So they have had, and those are some really, really good Alabama teams that have always had trouble at Jordan-Hare in recent years.

And Daniels gives them something. Now, he hasn't played too much for Auburn, but he did play very well the Vanderbilt game. He did start last year at Stanford, so he's not that inexperienced. And I thought the whole season that one of the reasons of the mistakes was stick with Arnold too long. He may still have a job if he went with Daniels earlier. But the, you know, you guys spent a few weeks ago, and oh, by the way, Alabama did cover that point spread against Eastern Illinois last year.

Barely. Yeah. And they covered it. But like we saw in the LSU game, like you saw in the Oklahoma game, the running game, inconsistent. And they need to get a little bit more of that, take some pressure off of Ty Sensen, and of course not make the turnovers they did against Oklahoma. I think Alabama wins. I'm going to call it 27-24. I would not lay the points here, though. I think it's just the Iron Bowl history here, especially the games being played at Jordan-Hare that have been very close.

And this salvages Auburn's season. And if I'm not, I think it gets them bowl eligible if they can win. So, it's going to be close. Bruce Marshall on top of it there at Vegas and Saturday, amongst other places. If that's the case, that would stick to the SEC championship game to play Texas A&M if they're able to manage Texas. Your thoughts about the shootout in the Longhorn State? You know, I'm not as sure about this as I was a couple weeks ago because, you know, Arch has played some better games.

His best games of the season have been in November. It looks like he's finally getting comfortable, and that was certainly a showcase last week. Well, his best game in Arkansas had something to do with that, and I don't think it would be as easy against A&M. But A&M has cut it close a couple times in the road. You know, Notre Dame, looking back, that might have been the game of the year. That was way back in early September. The Arkansas game was close. The South Carolina game was close.

[47:35] I mean, they've had a few really, really hairy calls. And you talk about rivalry week. I'd be very worried about this one if I were A&M. I might even think Texas now. Just because Arch is coming around, they can. And Texas is probably out. I mean, they'd need such a domino effect to even get in consideration for one of the last at-large spots. But they can sort of salvage their season. Also, I'm not sure what's going on with Sarkeesian there. I mean, there was the rumor.

He floated out there through the section, too, that he might be looking at the NFL. That might have been just a rumor out there. But it hasn't gone quite to plan for Texas yet this season. But they could salvage a lot by winning this game. I'm leaning to Texas a little bit. Wow. Vandy at Tennessee. The Commodores still have hopes. They're number 12. We'll see where they are tonight. Vandy's defense has improved quite a bit. They're only giving up 105 yards rushing. Tennessee runs the ball well. But in their losses, they haven't ran the ball well.

We know what Pavia can do. Tennessee's defense this year has been a seal. But particularly when they lost Jamon McCoy and Ricky Gibson, their two corners. Tennessee, a two-and-a-half-point favorite in Knoxville. Do they win in cover? I don't think so, Brad. I mean, by this stage, we only have a little bit more of Pavia unless he gets a tenth year of eligibility next year. But I'm not going to bet against him. They have been not only how much they've won since last year, also against the points spread.

I think they're 16-6 against the spread since last year. They've covered their last five. Now, this game is near pick-up, so they're going to have to win. But I don't think it's beyond Vanderbilt at all. You talk about that defense is much upgraded. This is not a normal Vandy team. We've talked about Barton Simmons before. Give him a lot of credit for being the football GM and knowing what to do. By the way, there's the other thing. I mean, no money is very important for these to stock your roster.

But you've also got to know what you're doing, and that's what Barton Simmons does. James Blanchard at Texas Tech is real good at that. Otherwise, if it's just money or the New York Mets and you spend it, you've got to know how to spend it. And they have done it very well. Tennessee's conspired to blow a couple of games this year, including that Georgia game at home, which is very, very bitter in the Oklahoma game. So something tells me Vanderbilt might get them. And here's the interesting thing.

I think Vandy wins. It's probably sitting right outside the playoff spots into this weekend. But looking at some conference championship games next week, some teams are going to lose an extra game next week, too. And you wonder how that figures into the equation. Vandy still might get in at the end of this playoff field. I think they've got a chance. I'm going to call it 34-31 Vandy. I think they win it. I'm not betting against Pavia. Not on my life. Mitch, if you call in a radio show in Knoxville, if that's the case, after that game.

Bruce, I always love to ask you, what is Bruce Marshall's under-the-radar rivalry game this week? Well, you know, it's actually in the Big Ten. There's a couple of big… By the way, I give Penn State a look against Rutgers, so it's not really a rivalry game. But I'll give Penn State a look. But it's in that, for Paul Bunyan's axe, it's Wisconsin at Minnesota. Kind of quietly, in recent weeks, Wisconsin has started to look like Wisconsin again. And this is odd, because it came right after the dreaded vote of confidence for a coach, in this case, Luke Fickle.

Although I believe they are going to keep Fickle next year. But Wisconsin has sort of responded to that. And he's got Wisconsin playing their sort of football. They've been able to establish a ground game in recent weeks. He's getting a little bit better play at quarterback. They had injury problems all year at quarterback. And they are finishing hot. They're not going to get bowl eligible. But that win over Illinois last week was good. They've played Oregon and Indiana really tough in recent weeks. They'll go up there and beat Minnesota.

Minnesota not running the ball that good. They did get a squeeze out of cover last week because Lindsey, the quarterback, put up a lot of yards. But I understand he is Jim Lindsey's grandson. The ex-Arkansas running back who was Minnesota Vikings and a real estate developer of note up there in northwest Arkansas. But they're not running like they usually do. I think Wisconsin brings the a** back to Madison. I'll take the Badgers. All right. Before we go, we've got to ask you about the game. Ohio State, a team favorite, traveling to Ann Arbor.

I know how you feel about Ryan Day. Jeremiah Smith, Cornell Tate with some injuries. Bo Jackson, Ohio State running back, been running wild. Last year, they got into, well, I'm just going to run the ball in Michigan. But Ryan Day's got a lot of pressure on him. Does Ohio State win but not cover the team? Something tells me no. And I think there's actually a chance of an upset here. It's crazy to think that somebody's going to beat Ohio State because Michigan has been sort of in and out this year.

[52:59] But Michigan, by the way, wins this game. They're back in the edge of the playoff field. That would be a huge feather in its cap. I'm still thinking back to last year's game, and I can't believe Michigan won that game because they basically were playing without a quarterback last year. And they won and won. But they have no fear of Ohio State. And I think Ohio State beats a lot of these teams before the game starts. They're just psyched out. It's sort of the other way around the last few years in this game.

Ohio State gets nervous, and Michigan just seems to keep – I think Michigan's got a shot here. And Underwood's hit one of their better games last week. They're ready. Upset alert for Ohio State. I'm taking Michigan. Wow. Listen, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We sincerely appreciate, really cherish the friendship with you. Ashton Daniels sat out to preserve his redshirt year since players can appear in four games without burning eligibility. His fourth was the Vanderbilt matchup. Daniels struggled in the loss to Kentucky that contributed to Hugh Freeze's firing, but he rebounded with 442 yards of total offense against Vanderbilt, his best performance as a Tiger. Meanwhile, freshman Deuce Knight exploded against Mercer with six total touchdowns, tying a program record and showcasing why the staff believes he's the future of Auburn football. Between Daniels' experience and Knight's explosiveness, Auburn's offense has racked up over 1,100 yards since November 8th.

And then here you got number one, Clay Chalkwell, and number three, Muscle Schultz. I believe that's the way it worked out. Although my box here says number 323. I'll have to change that. But I think it's going to be an interesting matchup of Clay Chalkwell's offense with Aaron Fry, quarterback, and Joshua Wood, that running back. I think he's run for about 1,400 yards and 23 touchdowns.

And then obviously Corey Barber, the Ole Miss commit, who's very integral in that big win they had over Thompson about midseason. He's got 14 touchdown receptions. And Muscle Schultz, just amazing. They've only allowed 91 points all year. So, you know, can they clamp down and continue to do what they do, slow down that Clay Chalkwell offense? I think it really should be a good game up there. Talk to us about that. You said up there. Can you underestimate just that, the home field advantage, any time, but especially this time of the year?

Well, let's face it, you're down to one of four top teams in your classification. Yeah, I mean, that's a big deal, obviously. You know, a team like Clay Chalkwell may be not as big a deal because they've been there before. I mean, they won the state championship two years ago and have played in a lot of big games. So, a lot of these teams, like both of these two teams, like Sarah Land and the other semifinal, that have been in these big games, the bright lights, wherever they are, I don't think are going to lead to bad play for them.

So, I would expect it, you know, it's certainly an advantage, but I don't know that it's a crippling advantage for Clay Chalkwell because they've played in so many big games before. What could be an advantage is I don't know what the weather looks like up there. I think it's supposed to be cold on Thanksgiving and I assume cold on Friday. Well, obviously, you would think that would benefit a good defensive team a little bit, so maybe that could help the Trojans. BT, one of the discrepancy, as you alluded to, Clay Chalkwell has scored 608 points and most of the shows has allowed 91.

Oh, my goodness. They've intercepted three passes in the last two games. I saw the Parker game, they intercepted three passes there. They did the same thing to Mountain Brook, but you're right. Clay Chalkwell can move the ball on anybody. And another team that can move the ball on anybody is the Morris Hill Panthers. I saw the first half of their game last week against Geraldine. They led 35-0 at halftime against a good Geraldine team. Morris Hill and their dynamic Dioid running back of Hudson Higgins and Jackson Penn.

Higgins has run for 1,800 yards and 30 touchdowns. Penn's run for nearly 1,500 yards and 28 touchdowns. That's mind-boggling. I don't know if they've had a close game since September. Piedmont is a really good team. Raleigh Pinto is one of the best playmakers in the state. Morris Hill scoring 52 points a game. Piedmont scoring 48. Morris Hill got another home game. What is going to happen at Morris Hill Bible Scoop, Ben Thomas? Well, I mean, not to surprise anybody, but I picked Morris Hill in this game. Our picks will come out on Thursday.

But this is another one of those games that I think there's a lot of these 12 games in the semifinals that people have been looking forward to for six, seven, eight weeks now maybe. And this is certainly one of them. I mean, you've got two 13-0 teams. Morris Hill, I don't think they've played a close game all year, have they? So you wonder if they ever get in one. What will that mean? I mean, a team like Morris Hill is another team that's won on the big stage before, so you wouldn't expect them to, you know, have any shakes or anything.

[1:08:48] And then Piedmont, same thing. I mean, you mentioned Raleigh Pinto. He was the state's single-season receiving leader last year until that record was broken by Cedric Simmons of Southside Selma this year. So, you know, you would expect an offensive showdown. Can Piedmont keep up with Morris Hill? Can Morris Hill control the game on the ground, control the time of possession? I mean, you know, that's what they've been good. And like I said, they haven't been in a lot of close games. So what does that mean this week?

You know, another team on the schedule for Morris Hill was Scottsboro, bigger classification. The Wildcats, to me, is an interesting team because a lot of people, they mention all these records, 13-0, 12-0. Scottsboro's 9-4, which shows you either they got a slow start, they learned as they went, or they had one heck of a schedule. Either way, they're still in the running. It doesn't matter if you lost four ballgames to date. You just keep on winning the next one. You can bring home the state championship trophy.

They're taking on Moody. They're 11-2. But your thoughts about Scottsboro. They're at 9-4 in the final four. Well, they've had a good run. Coach Vann's done a good job there. If you look at the rankings, I mentioned the high school, the Sports Association rankings. This is the Cinderella team of anybody that's left. Scottsboro was not ranked in the last regular season poll. They're the only unranked team still playing. So that says something about what they've done and also about being able to capture that momentum late in the season and in the playoffs and get hot, which is what we've seen a lot of teams do over the years.

Now, unfortunately for them, they've got a very good Moody team coming in that was in the championship game last year. They have not really been tested, certainly in the playoffs, you know, 49-21 over corner, 60-14 over Priceville, 51-21 over Briarwood. They've just been really rolling. Jake Lowry's completing 70% of his passes for 33 touchdowns. So I think it's going to be probably a tough task for Scottsboro. But, again, they have it at home. Maybe that means something for them. And, also, you know, the fact that you're hot at the right time and you've still got a chance.

Anything can happen. But I would think it's going to be a tough task against Moody. BT, another game with undefeated. Aniston 13-0. They beat Deser last week at Deser 31-7. Talked with several people who went to that game. They said Aniston is awfully good. Their defense, they're big at the line of scrimmage. We've talked a lot about Plainview. This is the Pruitt boys. Dale Pruitt, the iconic coach at Plainville, and his son, Jeremy Pruitt. Yeah, that Jeremy Pruitt of SEC ilk. Owen Hope is a very good quarterback for Plainview.

But this is one of the other better games. And I think some people saw this coming, like you said, about six weeks ago. Aniston and Plainview, the battle of the undefeated. Well, Aniston's coach is Rico Jackson, who was down here at my part of the world at Murphy for a couple of years. Really good coach. Done a good job there. And Aniston's allowed less than 10 points a game on defense. I think that ranks number one in Class 4A. Again, it's kind of a contrast to styles because Plainview is scoring an average of 43 points a game, which ranks number three.

So, you know, what gives there? Usually defense comes out on top if you can get a couple of scores. So, it should be a good game. You know, I saw today that Charles Kelly said that Jeremy Pruitt has not joined Jacksonville State yet. You know, there's a whole deal about him getting cleared to be on their staff. That has not happened yet. He's still with Plainview. And Dale Pruitt in his third tenure. He is one of, I read Ron Ingram saying that he's one of two coaches with more than 300 victories still remaining in the playoffs.

Our old buddy, Rush Prokst, being the other one, both of those guys have more than 300 wins. So, look, I've been to a playoff game in rainfall before. In fact, believe it or not, I had to go back two days later. I don't remember exactly what the scenario was. Harold, you might remember. But way long ago in the playoffs, they scored a defensive touchdown in overtime, which wasn't allowed. So, they had to come back and play the overtime on, I believe it was a Monday night. Yeah, you can look that up.

That would have been the early to mid-90s, probably the early 90s, like 91 or 92, playing the U.N. So, I had to go back and look that up. That was a crazy game and a crazy story. But, yeah, a lot of 13-0 teams, a lot of undefeated teams still left this week. Thank you, Rainsville, for the latest chapter, believe it or not. Let's talk about a matchup with a pretty good running back against a pretty good quarterback. That's Jackson and St. Michael. Yeah, I mean, another rematch.

[1:13:52] This is the fourth time these two teams have played in two years. They played last year in the state semifinals. Jackson beat St. Michael twice last year. St. Michael actually beat them this year in the regular season, 49-39. So, they get that game in Fairhope, which is about 10 minutes from where I'm sitting right now. I'll actually be at this game. I'm excited to be there. It's two Mr. Football contenders. Gunnar Rivers for St. Michael has had a great year. The son of Phillip Rivers, who, by the way, it's hard for me to figure out how they do this Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It seems like they have about five different cuts. But Phillip Rivers, I know, has made the next cut, I think, to get into the semifinals in his first year of eligibility for the Pro Football Hall of Fame today. So, anyway, just a side note, but a cool note for Phillip. So, you've got Gunnar Rivers, and then you've got E.J. Crowell, who, you know, I kind of think if he wins this game and gets into the championship game at Protective Stadium and runs wild again, I think he might have the edge in Mr. Football race.

We'll see. But he's run for 2,100 yards and 28 touchdowns and hasn't played in a lot of second halves. Wow. So, this is going to be, I talked to Cody Flournoy today, the Jackson coach, this is really going to be, I mean, nothing could shock me more than if this game ended up like 10-7 or something. I mean, I just think it's got to be, it's got to be in the 30s and 40s, because I'm just not sure either one of these teams is going to slow down the other.

And I think, in my mind, I just don't know, nobody's been able to successfully tackle so well much. And I think it's going to be hard for St. Michael to keep up with him. If they just give him the ball and Landon Duckworth makes a few passes, Jackson's got Keyon Chapman back, their big receiver, most of the season. They're seemingly at more full, better full health than they were early in the season. But it should be fun. There's going to be a lot of points on the board, I would think.

BT, most teams during the course of the season have a couple of shutouts. Leroy's 13-0 at Maplesville at 13-0. Maplesville has 10 shutouts this season. They have not allowed a point since a 52-14 victory over Hopeville in late September. You talk about some of what we talk about most of Schoel's defense. In Leroy, the Bears, they're kind of a perennial favorite to win 1A. But that was one of the more interesting stats I've seen. You talk about a defense. 10 shutouts during the season, BT, is pretty good.

2.1 points per game. That'll win a lot of games for you. I would think I'd be lucky because they're winning teams. 10 shutouts, 7 straight. Unbelievable. Yeah. I talked to Maplesville. They played five in the kickoff classic. And I went to the kickoff classic press conference. And Coach told me then that I believe they had maybe 19 starters returning from last year's team that lost to Wadley in the championship game. So they were going to be good. Eli Hubbard, the son of Brent Hubbard. Hall of Fame coach Brent Hubbard transferred back to Maplesville when his dad stepped down at T.R. Miller.

So that's been a big addition to them. This is going to be a good game, too. Leroy, like you said, won two state titles before Wadley won last year. I think I'm going to pick Maplesville in this game. And I think we could see a rematch again Wadley and Maplesville. I wouldn't just totally count out Leroy yet. I mean, they're 13-0 as well. And they know how to win on this page, too. Absolutely. BT, wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. I know you've got the absolute latest, very in-depth article today previewing the semifinals as far as great information about every team.

Participating in Class 7A, of course, will have their final in the Super 7. A lot of stuff going on still. Basketball, we'll get more into that in the coming weeks. BT, what else have you got on the agenda this week? And where can we get online to get everybody's good stuff? Yeah, Thomas is covering the Huntsville, that high school tournament that's going on in Huntsville yesterday and today. So he's got stuff from that. We'll have our picks. I've seesawed into a one-game lead on the picks. So it's time to hold on for two more weeks.

There you go. We'll have that later. And also, so starting next week, I'm going to do, since we're in 2025, I'm going to do 25 moments of the last 25 years in Super 7 history. I'll be working on that for about three weeks. And we're going to start that off on Sunday, and it'll be a three-day thing where we kind of count down to the top moment, which probably most people could figure out what the top moment is. It's a historic comeback in the final 18 seconds of a game. You can figure it out from there.

[1:19:02] But a lot of good stuff on AL.com where we'll have most of these semifinal games covered, football high live again on Friday night, and then a lot of good coverage from the Super 7. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. The Score. Welcome back in. I can't think of a better way to gear up for the holiday rock and roll show on the college football slate of dates and saying hello to Joe Cox. He's a fine columnist there at Saturday down south. His book is called A Fine Team Man. Joe Cox, welcome in. Who's more nervous?

Tom Turkey or the fellow or gals who are going to be writing the checks for Lane Kiffin next season. How are you? I'm doing fine. I'd be doing a little better if somebody wanted to pay me $13 million. Absolutely. But who would not? Yeah, I'd say the ADs because Tom Turkey's pretty sure to please. And you never know in this day and age, the coach who you're standing in line to pay millions of dollars to in a couple years, you're often standing in line to escort out the door.

Joe, we're running a Black Friday special here. Brett and I will work for half that $13 million. So if you act between now, we'll afford you in that, okay? We might extend that a little bit if possible. But let's talk a little bit about a game that's going to have all eyes on it. And who loves it better than – does anybody love eyes on it better than Lane Kiffin? How many folks are going to be watching the Egg Bowl and how many people are going to be watching Lane Kiffin this week?

Probably all and all. I mean, yeah, you don't have to find a particularly emotionally needy high school girl to possibly rival Lane in terms of that need for attention. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, he's going to be getting it. You know, the interesting thing, the game has almost become secondary, but if they struggle, you know, that's certainly going to make things even more interesting. It's one thing to have these academic discussions about where you are and aren't going to coach next year. But these kids from Ole Miss still have to go out and play that game.

And you know very well, Mississippi State would love absolutely nothing better than to get their bowl eligibility, to, you know, put a final pie in Lane's face potentially at Ole Miss and, you know, enjoy a very, very happy holiday weekend. So, you know, let's not forget the game because it could end up being a good one. Joe, Texas would like nothing more than to do exactly what you said is to upset number three, Texas A&M. Arch is playing better, 389 yards and six touchdowns against the worst defense in the SEC.

I get that, but the last three or four weeks, he seems to be playing more relaxed, in control, seems to be turning into the Arch Manning so many people thought that he eventually would be. It has been a magical season for Texas A&M, looking to stay in that number three seed and in the college football playoff. Mike Elko has done a tremendous job with A&M. Offensive and defense, they're playing very well, too. Joe, can Texas upset the Aggies Friday night at 630 on ABC? You know, it really is, I think, going to be about Arch Manning.

And he had such an odd start to this 2025 season, I believe, downright bad at times. And, yeah, he has come around, but he hasn't seen a defense like this in a while. You know, that whole upset narrative would tie very neatly with him finally having the game where he is the quarterback that I think everybody expected him to be. But A&M, all they've done all year long is thwart everybody's expectations. I mean, talk to Shane Beamer down at South Carolina. You think you've got them dead and buried.

And it turns out they didn't quite drive the stake through the heart. And A&M, you know, they're resilient. And I love those receivers there. They've just got such a wonderful wide receiver group. They really seem to be a good, unselfish group of kids who can just play off of each other and do big things. And, you know, my pick would be the Aggies. Texas is certainly capable. But Texas has been so up and down. And the one thing A&M really hasn't been is up and down.

They're pretty consistent with the exception of one bad half against Carolina. Joe Cox, Saturday down south. Let's talk about a game in our neck of the woods. It's called the Iron Bowl. Your thoughts. Alabama travels to Auburn. And what's ironic about it, Alabama will be facing a team that now has a different guy calling shots on the sidelines, a head coach, and a different quarterback once again gets rocking and rolling from where it was just three weeks ago. Your thoughts about a very intriguing matchup called the Iron Bowl.

[1:29:35] Yeah, it is interesting. In most leagues, a 9-2 team going to a 5-6 team, you'd just go ahead and put this one to bed. For the reasons you say, there's some intrigue here. It's not the team that you're going to see on tape. So, you know, Alabama has to kind of go in a little bit loosey-goosey here and can't be overly reliant on that aspect of things. Obviously, Alabama has got phenomenal talent and has generally done a very nice job all year long of answering the bell.

But as my old pal Bill Curry could tell you, there's nothing to get people on your back like losing in this game if you're the coach in Alabama. So, you know, I'm sure Coach DeBoer will be aware of that. You know, the Tide have the advantage in most categories, and yet, you know, that's why they play the game. And again, much like Mississippi State, Auburn could really turn the whole tenor of their season if they could pull this one off. Joe, isn't it amazing? Vanderbilt's got the most to lose, or the most to gain in this case, going to rival Tennessee.

Tennessee, the Vols have a six-game win streak. They haven't lost to Vandy in Knoxville since 2017. Everybody talks about Pavia and Stowers and what they can do. The Vanderbilt defense, to me, is vastly underrated. They're only giving up 105 yards rushing. Tennessee, with the two losses to Georgia and Alabama, Tennessee fans are not exactly thrilled. But this would be a big win for them. Joe, your thoughts? Vandy going to Tennessee with still Vandy looking at an outside chance for the college football playoff. Yeah, Vandy probably has to win and get a little bit of help, but at this time of year, that's far from impossible, particularly with all these games we're talking about that are just about close-ups.

Add me to the list as one impressed by that defense. What I was impressed with mostly against Kentucky was how aggressive they were. Because that offense, you know, it can wear different disguises. They can hit big plays, or they can, you know, nickel and dime you down the field and have nine-minute drives. But that defense is just going 100 miles an hour. Now, you know, sometimes take that Texas game, it costs them some points. But I like the way that they approach it. I think that'll be a good approach against Tennessee.

I think Tennessee will hit them for some big plays. But I think Vanderbilt will hit back for some big plays. And if they're able to force a turnover or two, I think that could be the deciding factor for Vandy. You have been predicting each SEC team's final record all year, and you're going to be pretty close on a lot of these guys. Also, later in the week, watchability, which games are must-see TV and others, you know, which can you go walk the dog or go on a picnic.

Joe, where can we get online to get these and all the other great stuff from the team? It's Saturday down south. And, you know, this week they may all be five-star games because, first, they were kind enough to spread them out over two days, which is nice to see a lot more games than you normally do. And, second, yeah, there are a lot of good rivalry games, even a game like Clemson-South Carolina, which doesn't sound that insane. That could be the wildest one, and we didn't even get to it.

So, I'm locked in. I'm going to have fun. You guys have fun. Try not to eat too much turkey, but otherwise, enjoy. All right, back at you, Joe. Thanks so much. Welcome back again. When he's not chasing turkeys for Thanksgiving, Matt Merchel is busy. There's a college insider with the Orlando Center on his podcast.

[1:39:44] It's called Gridiron 365. Matt, welcome in. Have you caught that turkey yet? Uh, not yet. Not yet, but still got a few days left before Thanksgiving. There you go. Matt, let me ask you this. You're in Florida. Have Gator fans already been… Have they begun to go ahead and sell commemorative Lankiff advisors endorsed by Steve Spurrier? Or LSU fans saying, forget the gumbo. He's going to take the jumbo package here to come to Batta Rouge. Or will it be none of the above? Matt, what's the latest on the Lane sweepstakes?

Well, I think that's just where everyone's just kind of anticipating what his decision's going to be. You know, I think they talked about it's going to come after the game on Saturday. You know, I mean, again, I think this all falls on what Lane is trying to do. You know, does Lane want to stay put at Ole Miss? Does he feel like this is an opportunity to continue to win and have success, you know, with the Rebels? Does he want to go chase the money with LSU maybe and deal with all the situation at LSU?

Or is he committed to Florida? Does he feel like Florida would be a new start somewhere where maybe he's got the resources? You're in the center of the hotbed of recruiting, you know, and in Florida, the state of Florida. You know, will they have an opportunity to do that? I think it's not just, you know, everyone who's waiting on this. It's just the fans. It's also, you know, the administration. You know, Florida wants this decision done as soon as possible. Because if Lane decides he's not going to Florida, then you've got to move to plan B.

And you've got to do it quickly. Let's not forget, early signing period is next Wednesday. That starts recruiting. Then you've got, you know, the transfer portal opening in the second week of January. So you've got to make this decision now. You can't wait for Lane to sit back and decide, you know, something down the road. And if he does decide to move on, then you've got to figure out what your next chance is. So I think everyone's in anticipation of I'm landing Lane. It's just more, where does he feel like he's going to be the best fit?

And is this going to be one of those things that gets drawn out? Or will we finally get a decision on Saturday and we'll move forward from there? Of all the people who want an answer, it's got to be Ole Miss. I mean, they're the ones signing checks right now. They're the ones that gave an opportunity to be in this position. And not only that, they've still got a lot of green grass in front of them if things fall their way. What's going through the folks in Oxford's mind?

Well, yeah, that's exactly it. You know, when you look at it, you know, your administration, you want to know what's going on there. You want to know, is Lane going to come back? If Lane's coming back, okay, you move forward and you try to continue to build on what he's done there. If he's indicated that he's not coming back, if he said, listen, I'm going to go on somewhere else, you've got to move forward. You've got to decide, do you have him coach for the remainder of the season through the playoff if possible?

Or do you move on from him, have him leave, take care of things with wherever he's going to and, you know, bring in an intern coach to finally finish things up? That's going to be a very interesting dilemma that we haven't seen so far in college football. You know, a team that possibly could be playing in the college football playoff with an intern coach based on that. So, I mean, that's something that could very well happen. So, right now, I think that's what's hanging in the air.

And I think, you know, this isn't a case of Lane trying, I don't think, trying to drum up more money and trying to get more, you know, more interest and things like that. I think legitimately he's trying to figure this out. Where's the best spot for him? Because, again, you don't want to make a move and go somewhere and find yourself unhappy in two or three years and not be able to go back. Matt, sometimes in a Hollywood marriage, you hear the term, it's cheaper to keep her.

Is this the philosophy that Florida State administrators are taking with Mike Norvell? $58 million buyout. And from what we hear with reports, he will be coming back next year. It seems like it's been three years since Florida State beat Alabama in the opening game of the season. And it has not exactly gone well since then for the Seminoles. And I hear Florida State fans and alumni are not real happy about this. Matt, your thoughts on where Florida State is right now? Well, I mean, listen, I get it, you know, fans are excited.

But I'm going to say this right now. I've been telling my Florida State fans who have been screaming at me all week. Now, listen, you know, you're in a very competitive coaching carousel right now. And, you know, the big dog, the big fishers who are out there, you know, the Lane Kiffins and, you know, the James Franklins, you know, they're probably going to get screwed up in the next couple days. So if you're Florida State and you're going to invest $58 million to get rid of your head coach, plus whatever it's going to cost to get rid of your staff, you know, you've got to make sure you've got someone that you're bringing in that is going to not only wow the fan base and wow the boosters and donors, but someone you feel like is going to be able to help you win at this level.

I mean, if that person isn't out there, you know, I don't think Jimbo Fisher, for instance, excites anybody at Florida State. I don't think there's any, you know, I mean, outside of Lane Kiffin, I don't think anyone excites anyone. So if you're not going to bring someone like that in, why make that move right now? You know, why not just say, okay, we're invested in this for another year. Now, it looks like Florida State's going to take a very serious look at this program. My assumption is they'll probably make tons of coaching change.

[1:44:58] They'll probably go through the coaching staff and make some changes. We may see changes at the coordinator positions. You could see the top and bottom. I think they're going to look at their whole football structure and try to make a change to try to appease people and hope that next year you come in with a different attitude, maybe. And maybe you have a chance to win some games. If you're Mike Norvell, it doesn't matter how many puffy speeches you give to your recruits and your donors and your players, it's got to come down to we've got to win games.

And so that's just, you know, I think that's why Florida State made the decision they made because they feel like at this point it's not going to be too expensive to get rid of them. It's better just to keep them. Matt Merchelle with us, Orlando Sentinel, 9-2 versus 5-6, a.k.a. the Iron Bowl. Matt, you have the national seat at the table here. What's going to happen with Saturday night's game on the Plains? Well, you know, again, I still think Alabama's the better team, you know, going into this game.

I think Alabama obviously has more to play for. You know, there's an opportunity to try to go out there and, you know, come away with another win, get your rivalry game, you know, get your rivalry win there and move on. There's still something to fight for if you're Alabama. It's not like you don't have anything in this game. You know, I mean, Auburn, that's very dangerous, you know, when you're at Auburn. Because, again, you've got nothing to lose, so to speak. That's right. This is all about rivalry.

This is all about rivalry to the end of your career, possibly with a win over your rival. So it's going to be interesting to see how this happens, you know, over the, you know, can they come out there and treat this as their Super Bowl? Can they go out there and play, you know, to the next level? I mean, it could possibly happen. We've seen things like that happen before. But, you know, on paper, this looks as if Alabama's got the better team and should have a better chance of winning this game.

Matt, I enjoy asking you about the Big 12 because it's a fascinating league. BYU beat Cincinnati, a team that's all of a sudden lost three consecutive games after starting 7-1. They won last week 26-14. And BYU, now at number 11, we'll see where they are tonight, can sneak into the college football playoff. They could right now. Utah and Kansas State had a wild game. Utah held on 51-47, Utah 9-2, TCU 7-4, Houston 8-3. It is never a dull moment, Matt, in the Big 12 every week. No, it's not.

You know, but in the bigger picture of things, you know, the Big 12's got to be concerned. You know, they want to make sure that, you know, they got Tech and BYU most likely probably meeting off in the Big 12 championship. And whoever loses that game, let's say it's a close game, not like the first time they face each other, but a close game. So, does that knock BYU out of the playoff? You know, is there a chance that Big 12 can get two teams in there? You know, if you're BYU and you finish 11-2 for the second straight year and you don't get in the playoff, you've got to be talking to your commissioner, asking, what's going on here?

What do we need to do, you know, essentially to get a team in the playoff? And, you know, I know Brett Jormark has been steadfast on his, you know, looking at that 12-team, you know, 12-team playoff. And even if they do expand, you know, willing to accept maybe, you know, possible, you know, two, you know, two dedicated teams. You know, I just think that that's something if you're a BYU fan, you've got to be really concerned about it. You know, can you make that push? Can you find a way to get in there?

Can they possibly get two teams in the playoffs scenario? Texas A&M can get into the SEC championship game very easily. All they've got to do is beat Texas this week. Can A&M do it against the ESPN Rockstar by the name of Arch Manning? Yeah, I mean, I think A&M is playing some really good football right now. You know what I mean? You talk about defensively. This is a team that's one of the best defensive teams, one of the best in the SEC. Puts up a lot of points.

I think they have an opportunity. I mean, they've won, what, 11 straight games? This looks like they're on a pretty good path. You know, I know Texas has had its wins, and that's looked impressive at times. I think they've looked a little bit better lately. But, you know, again, this is A&M. I think this is A&M's year to make a big push, and I think this is an opportunity for them to make their case and, you know, to move forward. What a job Mike Elko has done, you know what I mean, in a short time.

You know, I mean, if you think about where Jimbo Fisher was many years ago, and there were eight wins seemed to be the standard for A&M, and now all of a sudden you get to a level win mark, perfect season. If you can kind of finish that thing off, I think it gives you a good chance to get into the SEC championship, and it gives you a good chance in the playoffs. Matt, I asked Andrea Adelson, our mutual friend with ESPN a little bit earlier, plan B for Florida if the lane train decides to go to LSU or stay in Oxford, and I mentioned Washington's Jet Fish, who's got ties to Florida.

Clark Leach, the name has come up for several schools. Everybody wants Jon Sumrall. I keep hearing Eli Drinkwith is a plan B or plan C for teams. Matt, what are you hearing? I know Florida fans were really, really wanting Lane Kiffin. What's plan B? Yeah, that's a good question. You know, I think you mentioned some of those. I think Jet Fish is one who kind of makes sense. Eli Drinkwith is the other. I think the problem with all that, guys, is if they do have to go to plan B, does this still excite Florida fans?

[1:50:28] You're all in on Lane Kiffin. If all of a sudden you don't get Lane and you get a guy named Jet Fish, no offense to Jet, does Florida fans, are they just as excited about that? Are they out there thinking this is going to change things? I mean, it's unfortunate, but it's true. I mean, you know, now Jet may do a good job if he were to come in. Maybe I'll find a way to turn things around. Eli Drinkwith obviously has a good history at Missouri.

He's done more with less, so to speak, at Missouri. You know, I think for Florida, I've said this before, whoever you hire, you have to make sure this is somebody you're not going to have to go hire another coach three years from now. I mean, that's unfortunately, that's been the case for Florida over the years is that they just haven't found somebody who can bring stability to that program. And you don't want to hire another coach, bring him in, and then three years later you're talking about either you're replacing him or something happens.

I mean, you want to be able to bring some stability. That's the only reason why most of these programs are at the top of the playoff list have had some success. They've had stability. Kirby Smart's been at Georgia for a long time. You know, I mean, Nick Saban was at Alabama for a long time. I mean, you've had coaches who've been there for a while. And so you need to find somebody who can bring that stability. You don't just want one year of success and then four years of just mediocrity.

So that's the thing I think is important for them. Yes, they want to get a big name. Yes, Lane Kiffin would be perfect. But they need to bring someone in if they don't get him that at least they feel like is going to be able to turn things around and get them on the right path rather than just kind of treading water for the next three or four years. I'm going to be curious, Matt, to see if we hear once Lane Kiffin breaks the logjam here with the coaching hires, Alex Golesh at South Florida, Ryan Silberfield at Memphis, and one name I thought might be in play for Penn State, Matt Campbell at Iowa State, who's been there 10 years.

Those are three very good coaches. And I'm going to see if some schools look at them more intensely once we figure out Saturday afternoon where Lane is going. Matt, have a great Thanksgiving for you and your family. But where can we get online, get your podcast, get all your good stuff? Yeah, you can go to orlandosetinal.com to check out the latest or follow me on social media. Oh, it's Matt Rochelle. You guys have a happy holidays as well, okay? Thanks, Matt. Appreciate it.
