But Jimmy is here right now to talk about the keys for Alabama to get a win in Red Stick. Keys are playing. Well, it's playing.
Jimmy Stein, co-host of Locked On Bama, part of the Locked On Network. And with Luke Robison and over on the podcast, cover crimson with the rascal name, Travis Ryder on YouTube. Jimmy, welcome in. How are you? Oh, doing great, guys. Thanks for having me back. Good, Jimmy. I appreciate it. We're just listening to some of the folks this morning. And the question, I guess, Jimmy, a lot of folks are asking, is it too late, based on all the news you're hearing out of Vegas and other places, is it too late for Bama to cancel their flight to Baton Rouge this weekend?
There is a lot of pessimism out there. It's not just with the national folks, although the national folks tend to be flocking to the LSU pick, as we know that the line earlier, really before this week, kind of started in that two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half point range, going all the way up to six-and-a-half, band-duel in some places. So, the betting public is going LSU. The national analysts are going LSU. Even three of my five compadres that cover Crimson have picked LSU to win. My podcast partner, Luke Robinson, picked LSU to win.
Oh, my goodness. I'm picking Alabama. But I'm picking Alabama. All right. I think the pessimism stems, guys, I think, well, from a couple of things. But here's the primary, actual, objective reason to be pessimistic. Alabama has not been great at protecting the passer. That's been a problem for them. They rank in the 100s in terms of allowing pressures and sacks. LSU, conversely, is extremely good at getting after the quarterback and pressuring the quarterback. I think Alabama fans recently saw in Knoxville what happens on the road when the quarterback gets extreme pressure and you're not able to run the ball.
Alabama only mustered ten points. That happens again in Baton Rouge. You're going to lose the football game. So how Alabama has improved since the Knoxville game in terms of protecting the quarterback and running the football is what will give Alabama a chance to win the game. But the pessimism is understandable when you look at it from that angle. Jimmy, let's start with the health of this team is the most important factor going into LSU. And you're right about LSU's very good defensive front seven. They're second in the league with 34 sacks to Tennessee's 35.
But if Alabama can get Ryan Coleman-Williams, Rayson Delgado, Terrence Green, Zabian Brown, maybe E.J. Crowell, and if some of the other guys who have been beat up, quite frankly, for a month, were rejuvenated a little bit during the bye week, I think this team does have a good chance to win this football game. But, Jimmy, what are you hearing with your sources as far as the top five or six starters possibly coming back for LSU? Yeah, very optimistic, actually, very optimistic. Now, understand that, you know, based on what I hear, based on what I believe is going to be the case, that you're going to really see all of those guys.
I'm not as optimistic on Will Sanders. I know he's listed as questionable, but I'm not as optimistic there. I'm not quite as optimistic on E.J. Crowell, although I do think that's very possible. But what happens when you've got guys practicing throughout the week and you're seeing how they're going to hold up, sometimes you really don't know until game day. There's this extra shot of adrenaline. There's this excitement. There's more physicality than some people might realize in pregame warm-ups, especially at some spots. I remember having Caden Proctor going through a season-long injury that he suffered in warm-ups before the first game.
[5:09] I think some of these guys, it might not be called a game-time decision, but it really is. But that said, I'm optimistic about them returning. What I'm a little less optimistic about is, sure, Zabian's back. Sure, Terrence Green's back. Sure, Ryan's back. Are they the same players they were before the injuries? And that's a fair question to ask and is also reason, you know, to be a little concerned. But that said, I do think with all those guys back, so many people are pointing to what happened in Knoxville as evidence of what will happen in Baton Rouge.
That may prove to be the case. But I want to remind people, I think the Alabama team you're going to see in Baton Rouge is going to resemble a lot more like the team that won its first five games. Some of those games now, in retrospect, look like pretty impressive wins. I don't think Alabama fans knew at the time that they had just beaten the No. 6 team in the country on the road by three touchdowns like they did with Kentucky, or that they beat a ranked South Carolina team now with two-thirds of the season over.
They're ranked. That was a ranked win by several touchdowns. You beat Mississippi State by four touchdowns. I don't think we know Camario wasn't Camario when they played Alabama, but he was still on the field and they were coming off some big wins. I think the Alabama team we see in Baton Rouge will look more like the September Alabama team and even the Alabama team that battled Georgia in a game that literally could have gone either way. It went Georgia's way. Credit Georgia for that. But, gosh, if just one of those four fumbles that Georgia recovered ended up in Alabama's hands, if just one of those four disputed, controversial calls had gone Alabama's way, maybe that game turns.
Alabama, I would say it's fair to say that that Alabama-Georgia game was sort of a draw. I mean, in terms of, you know, how easily it could have gone the other way. So, if that team that we saw in September and the team that played Georgia that night in Tuscaloosa, if that's the team LSU's got to beat, it's going to be an interesting 60-minute game. Jimmy Stein locked on Bema. Jimmy, that takes care of the Jimmys and Joes, but there's two other names we need to know, and that's Grubb and Womack.
What have they learned to sit here and help this kid out as far as a short game? I mean, it seems like it's a rinse and repeat every game. They keep waiting for Grubb to come up and scheme something, take some of the pressure off for us. So, we know the line's been suspect. We know the running game's been suspect. So, at this point in the season, what's it going to take to get through his head and say, maybe we need to go to plan B, C, or down to Z?
I think DeBoer's record after bye weeks, I believe it's 8-0 after bye weeks. And I think, I know that I didn't use the words Grubb or Womack there, but they worked for him. I think what DeBoer has managed to find on bye weeks has been helpful to his coordinators. You are now eight games in. You know your team a lot better than you did before. You've seen them now in multiple hostile environments. And you're an underdog. I mean, this is as big as Alabama's been an underdog in the DeBoer era.
I think you call the game differently. We're in 20 years for the program. Sure. I mean, you call the game differently. I mean, when you're Thompson High School and you're facing, I don't know, Gordo High School, I think both of those coordinators in trying to win the game are going to call it much differently. So I think what I'm saying is I can see Alabama taking more chances because you're the underdog. But at the same time, I think both Grubb and Womack have a little more confidence in their guys than maybe some of the fans do.
And I think now that they're getting their guys back, what I'm hoping to see is a great balance of, hey, we got to take some chances here. We're an underdog. But at the same time, I believe in my guys. And I'm not asking my guys to be superheroes. I'm just asking them to play their game and play, you know, play mistake-free, but play fast and play hard. I think coming up with a balance of aggressive play calling because you're an underdog and trusting your guys. That's what you need to see from both Ryan Grubb and Kane Womack tomorrow.
Jimmy, these games are always won in the line of scrimmage. Can Alabama match the physicality? And we talked about the 34 sacks by LSU. One of the biggest matchups, obviously, is going to be Jackson Lloyd against Prince Will U, Jordan Ross. Prince Will U's got eight and a half sacks. Jordan Ross has got five. Now, certainly running the ball is going to help. Putting a tight end to chip some of these guys would help. Jimmy, your thoughts on what Alabama can do to help that offensive line with a very good defensive front?
It will literally decide the game, Brett. I mean, it will literally decide the game. This is why the Alabama score and why the 60 minutes in Knoxville was uncomfortable. Tennessee's really good at getting after the quarterback. A banged-up offensive line just couldn't get it done. But you have to also remember, fans, that it's not just on the offensive line. A lot of it is pre-snap work done by Keelan. Keelan has to understand pre-snap where the pressure's coming from, where he's likely to have problems. The tight end group and the running backs.
[10:42] I think even though Alabama could use some explosiveness from Treshaun Brown and E.J. Crowell, I think it's a big Daniel Hill game down there in Baton Rouge because he's the guy that can best protect Keelan Russell. And if you want some explosive pass plays, it takes a hot second for those explosive pass plays to develop. And I think Daniel Hill can be the difference in giving Keelan the half second he needs to wait on his receiver to break open down the field. So I think protecting Keelan is how the game will be decided because I wouldn't say that LSU has really any big-time talent weaknesses.
But what LSU has, guys, is that pass rush. If Keelan can have some level of protection and get balls off down the field, I do think the LSU secondary can be had. They've given up some pass plays. Their secondary personnel is good, but it's not as good as that front with Princewell, Umami Allen, and Jordan Ross, and Deuce Gerald, who's probably the second-best interior tackle Alabama's faced all year, and he's a true freshman. That kid's great. That front's going to cause Alabama some problems. If they could just give Keelan a little bit of time, I do think Rico Scott, Lottie Brooks, and Ryan Coleman-Williams can all make big plays.
And all it takes is one huge play apiece from those three guys. And you've scored in the 20s, and that's going to give you a chance. So Alabama needs explosive plays. That's only going to come from protecting Keelan, and that's why I think Daniel Hill probably plays a lot of snaps tomorrow at running back. Amen, Jimmy Stein. Jimmy, let's talk about the things that don't get talked enough about, and that could be the intangibles, officiating, turnovers, and the kicking game. Everything was rocking and rolling until the last game as far as some of the special teams.
Your thoughts about some things we don't talk a whole lot about on Friday, but we do on Monday. Well, I think breaks even out. I really believe that there's no anointed teams. Breaks just even out. You get breaks in some games. Breaks go against you and others. Against Georgia, there were four balls on the ground. Georgia recovered all four. There were four controversial officiating calls. They all went Georgia's way. You could argue Alabama was 0 for 8 in breaks against Georgia. One of the reasons that I'm one of the few predicting an Alabama win is Alabama's due to get some breaks.
Maybe that's the bounce. Maybe that's the bounce of a ball. Maybe it's the officials screwing it up again, and this time LSU's on the short end of the stick. Those things could happen, but you can also make some of your breaks. And as much as Alabama's got a mismatch in terms of dealing with the LSU pass rush, here's where LSU's at a bit of a disadvantage. Alabama leads the league in takeaways. And while Sam Levitt has performed better recently, how often do we see close games decided by takeaways being plus in the giveaway takeaway?
I think that's where Alabama's got an advantage over LSU, and that could decide the game. I agree with you entirely. Alabama's tied for 11th nationally with plus 7. LSU's tied for 88th with minus 2. And something else, Jimmy, as far as an intangible, Lane Kiffin has a problem of outsmarting himself, sometimes against Alabama. That's one of the reasons why he's 0-5. And I know a lot of that was against Nick Saban. Jimmy, your prediction for the game, and where can we get on line to get you and Luke and Travis with the best podcast on the planet?
I think 27-24 Alabama. That sounds like Connor Taltese the hero, and maybe he will literally be a hero at the end. But I really think Alabama 27-24 to me is because Alabama makes more explosive plays on offense and makes more plays on defense down the field with the takeaways. Alabama's takeaways on the part of their secondary and their explosive plays from Keelan to those three wide receivers are the difference that Alabama wins 27-24. And if and when I'm wrong, you can tune in to Locked on Bama on YouTube all next week and leave nasty comments for me and everyone's hopes up.

Speaking of which, I know you can't wait. Hopefully, it'll serve up some crow pie to Mr. Travis and Mr. Luke on Monday. Maybe even Saturday night. Jimmy, enjoy the game, and thanks so much for your time today. Hey, appreciate it, guys. Thank you, Jimmy. Jimmy Stein, Locked on Bama. He is Locked on Auburn. Justin Ferguson on deck.
[15:44] Stay with us. I've always felt that sports imitate life, and in both arenas, everyone loves a good comeback story. The show starts at 6 p.m., and you don't want to miss it. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in. He is the traveling man when it comes to covering the Auburn Tigers, Justin Ferguson. Busy there with the Auburn Observer. Justin, welcome in. How are you? I'm doing all right. How are you? Hey, Boone. Man, we're doing all right, Justin. November, first curtain on the month of November, but before we take a sneak peek ahead of the first game this month, let's take a little peek in the rearview mirror at the October slate of dates for the Auburn Tigers.
When's the last time that this team and this fan base has been that high and that low within a two- or three-week span, Justin? It's been a while, you know, you just went through, I think, the toughest, you know, month of the season that anybody's had in college football this year. It's kind of funny, if you look, if all four of the teams Auburn just played, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss, if they all finish ranked, this will be the first time Auburn has faced four straight ranked teams in a season since 1999.
So, it's like you had gone through a pretty big gauntlet, and so you got that big win against Georgia. You were able to do with a lot of the things that you felt like you needed to do moving forward when you are the underdog. I think in both of these games against Ole Miss and LSU, you just let it get away from you. If you don't hit your opportunities as an underdog, if you let them go by the wayside, it can kind of unravel on you pretty quickly, and that's definitely what happened these last two weeks.
So, took some of the shine off of that Georgia win, but the good news for Auburn is you got an opportunity. You're going to be favored tomorrow against Arkansas, and you'll have a good chance to do the same thing next week against Mississippi State if you take care of business tomorrow. So, an opportunity to turn things around pretty quickly here in November. I agree with you, and I said this all summer. I thought Auburn had the toughest schedule in the country in October, and they were able to steal one game from Georgia.
Arkansas, obviously, is not to the level of the four teams that Auburn played in October. They can still make some – K.J. Jackson, their quarterback, can make some plays. I saw the replay of the Missouri game, a little bit of it earlier in the week, and he did make some plays. Their rush defense is bad. They don't run the ball very well. They don't get to the quarterback. They don't do a lot of things well, but this is a get-right game for Auburn. I've asked you about the offensive line.
I think every week this season, there were mass changes. Jacoby Ward started his first career game. Rameel moved from right to left. Zaire from left guard to right. Talcom McManus from right guard to left guard. Will they start that same unit and just hope to build some continuity and rhythm? Yeah, I think that's probably going to be the plan on Saturday. I think against Ole Miss, you had some struggles on the offensive line, but it wasn't anything kind of crazy. It wasn't like they got a lot worse there.
Those four guys that you just mentioned there, four of the five guys on the offensive line, they all could come back next season. I think it's really big for Auburn here in the month of November to figure out, okay, how many of these guys can we trust? How many of these guys need to be part of our plan next year? How many of these guys do we think that we need to keep around and see if they can win starting jobs in 2027? I think that's a big priority for Auburn.
So you get this late in the year, you've put in some younger guys into the fold. I don't think you go away from that, and I think you stick with it, and you hope that, hey, you're about to play Arkansas, a team that's not been very good at the line of scrimmage this season. Maybe you can go out there and get some confidence back for that group. Justin Ferguson, the Auburn Observer, Justin, it's always fun to see the MASH report. How healthy is Auburn and, conversely, as far as Arkansas, do they have any key folks missing?
I mean, Arkansas's got a few guys, but they're not terribly banged up. I will say, I think Auburn's the healthiest team in the SEC right now. He may be right. Yeah, they don't have really any big, okay, you know they're for sure out for an extended period of time guys right now. They had some guys get banged up last week during the game, but they've been able to practice this week. Jeremiah Coger didn't play a wide receiver. He's expected to give it a go tomorrow. Same thing for Sylvester Smith-Reed, defensive back, Andre Jordan Jr.
[26:06] So Auburn had some guys get banged up, but it wasn't anything serious coming out of that Ole Miss game. Those guys were at practice this week, and feeling pretty good about them on the availability report. Got some questionable and some probable designations, but nothing super serious heading into the game on Saturday. Ole Miss had a really incredible performance offensively, particularly when they got rolling in the second half. They converted 13 of 16 third downs. That's nearly unheard of. They ran for 224 yards. Auburn only ran for 63. I don't see that happening against Arkansas.
Yeah, it better not happen against Arkansas, you know, for sure. Yeah, this Arkansas team, like you said earlier, doesn't run the ball very well. I hadn't been able to stop and run well. I think that's going to be tilted a little bit more in their favor. Ole Miss had not been great against the run this season, but you've got to remember, like, a few weeks ago, they shut down Missouri's running game. Missouri's got a really, really good running game. So, they had that kind of feeling about them.
We haven't seen that from Arkansas this year. You know, in every game they've played against the Power Conference opponents this year, they've given up at least four yards per carry. Teams like Texas A&M, Missouri have been able to run really, really, Utah. We're able to run really, really well on them. So, yeah, for Auburn, it's got to be a bounce-back game here. You know, KJ Jackson is a good playmaker. He's going to be excited to be playing, you know, right down the road. He's from Montgomery.
You know, he's going to be excited to play in that game. I think he's gotten better as the season's gone on. They've kind of grown up with him. But, you know, for Auburn's defense, it's just, hey, this is going to be more like it was when they played Vanderbilt, you know, the last time they were favored in a game where they just, you know, wasn't perfect, but they made some stops and they got to, you know, kind of strengthen some things together against a team that, you know, wasn't as great.
You know, the last three weeks, Auburn played Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss. Right now, in SP Plus, they are three of the top six offenses in the country. So, it's just like you had as big of a test as you could have possibly gotten these last few weeks, and your defense went through it. Arkansas, towards the bottom of power conference teams and offense this season, you need to go out there and take care of business. So, Justin, do you dare give us the final score for tomorrow's game?
I don't know if I would give you a score for it. I will say that Auburn's favored by 10. I feel like that makes sense. You know, I feel like that's at home. That's kind of where they went. I like Auburn by two scores in this game. I don't know if they're going to go in there and just kind of rear back and blow them out. I don't know if it's going to feel like one of those. You know, Gus Malzahn was always really good at just blowing the doors off of Arkansas every time he had an opportunity.
I don't know if that's the case, but I will say this. So, a few years ago, Auburn was in kind of a similar situation in year one under Hugh Freeze. They went to Arkansas, an Arkansas team that was struggling, and blew them out. You know, I think, you know, in this instance here, there is an opportunity at home for Auburn to, if they can click on offense and they can get some momentum rolling, get off to a good start, I'll be very interested to see how Arkansas handles that because it's kind of turning into a lost season for them.
Auburn's still got a lot to play for at this point. You know, they win one of these next two games. They're probably going to make a bowl game because they still have to play Sanford. They win two out of their last three SEC games. You're talking about a guaranteed winning season for the first time since 2020. So, got a lot to play for at this point. So, I think if Auburn gets off to a good start and kind of cleans up some things on both sides of the ball, they could be in a really good position to, you know, go out there and get a good win tomorrow and kind of hopefully move past what October was for them and set forth with some momentum in November.
I think that's what happens. I think they could run the ball every play and win the game, quite frankly. But, you know, we'll see how that goes. Nothing going on this week, young man. Basketball started. I think you've got baseball this afternoon. What else is going on and where can we get online and get the 6 a.m. emails, the mailbag on Fridays, the podcast, and all the good stuff? Yeah, AuburnObserver.com. We've got a ton of stuff going on right now covering Auburn football preview in this Arkansas game coming up.
A lot of basketball as well from Auburn's pretty big first one against Southeastern Louisiana. We'll have coverage all this weekend from the game in Jordan-Hare. We'll have a ton of stuff from that. And we'll roll right in because, like you said, it doesn't slow down. Monday night they play a pretty good App State team in basketball right after this. So, you know, it's a lot of stuff going on at the Observer right now. It's the busiest time of year, so it's a good time to jump on board because we've got it all covered for Auburn football and men's basketball.

He is the big dog in the Peachtree State, Bill Shanks, host of the Bill Shanks Show on 93.1 FM in Macon. You can check him out online anytime at thesuperstations.com. And on the tube at 41NBC. Bill, welcome in. How are you? I'm good. How are y'all? Hey, Bill. Man, we're doing all right. Bill, we've obviously been doing this a long time. But when's the last time you've seen a menu this juicy from one end of the country to the other?
Everywhere you look, it's big boy football this weekend. Pretty good. Pretty good. Pretty good schedule. And my Bulldogs against your Rebels, Harold Buck. So you want me money like your co-host does. You know what? I've been away from there so long, Bill. It's one thing to see them where they are. Truly, it's amazing to see where they are, given how long it's taken to get there. But let's start with that game. Ole Miss and Georgia. It is a top-ten matchup, one of several across the country.
Where do you start breaking it down? Georgia needs to contain Trinidad Chamlis. They need to win the running game battle. Every week when I do my notes, the most important stat right after the score is who outrushes whom. That's key for me and always has been. And I think it is a very good part of a team's chance for a victory if they can outrush the opponent. So that's what I'm hoping is that the key one, Lacey, out. And I'll take it. I think Georgia's got people out, too.
So, you know, I think you have to take advantage of that. Try to win the running game battle. You need your quarterback, Hunter Stockton, to play better than their quarterback. You're going to have that Chamlis. You're going to have pressure on Chamlis. One thing I think people need to realize, January 2nd, the day after the game on January 1st, all the Georgia fans are like, man, if Gabe Harris has been in there. Gabe Harris is a pass rusher outside. And there's no question you have to wonder about, especially those two plays where Trinidad was just running all over the place, untouched, or touched, but not brought down, kind of like what happened in the Auburn game.
This was not running plays. This was scrambling and getting away from people and then making a completion. We wondered if Gabe Harris would have made a difference. Well, Gabe Harris is back. Another player who was not in that game on January 1st, Jordan Hall, is back. I think he's an upgrade over who they had there before. I think Chris Cole has gone to another level. He's an All-American candidate and a first-round draft pick candidate, as are both Casey Bolton and Ellis Robinson in the secondary. They're different players than they were back on January 1st.
So I think that's what gives me hope that they'll be able to keep Chamlis from getting out of control. That's what I was going to ask you. We talked about this a little bit yesterday. Texas did a good job, or better than most, of keeping Chamlis in the pocket. Now, he got out a couple of times, and he will against Georgia. But if he can bottle up, so to speak, Chamlis a little bit in that pocket and slow down the running game, then Georgia's got a much better chance to win the game.
Well, containing Trinidad is not easy. He's a very good player. He's just a really good player. I'm not convinced he's an NFL player. I mean, my bar for NFL quarterbacks is pretty high, and h***, I don't know if there's one out there this year. I don't see enough of the best to make a kid, but I mean, definitely Arch isn't ready. Dante Moore's not ready before his injury. I mean, the Mensa kid can prove a lot tomorrow without his number one wide receiver and does well.
But Trinidad's very good, and you have to do different things to try to stop him and contain him and just not let him get out of control. And so that's what Georgia's task is going to be. And look, Kirby had two games against him last year. The running numbers for Trinidad last year were nine for 42 in the game in Athens in October, and then four for 14 in New Orleans in the Sugar Bowl. Again, this wasn't like it was with Byron Brown where it was design run plays where he just scooted through.
This was scrambling and getting away from the defender and then being able to throw the ball. There was a huge completion of Lacey that was a big, impactful thing. So they've got to not let that happen. And if they contain that, they're going to have a good chance of winning. I think they're going to win by double digits. I feel very good about this. And I may be dead wrong. I rarely am. The only time that I was wrong was when I thought I was wrong, and that was incorrect.
[41:40] So, I mean, I'm really wrong. And so, you know, I feel good about it. I really feel good about Georgia's chances. I think they rebounded nicely after the loss to Auburn by beating Florida, and the defense looks really good. And you know what? Defense wins championships. And they may win in Oxford tomorrow at 3.30 or 7.30, rather. I agree with you about Chambliss. I think he is, to me, he's kind of like a Diego Pavia, fantastic college quarterback, but a little too short to make it at the next level.
We'll let time take care of that. But, Bill, your thoughts just about something that every team Dred is talking about, and that's the T.O., the turnovers. Sometimes they work for you. Sometimes they work against you. Gunner, as he sat here and watched the film, says, that's what I was doing wrong, and here's how I'm going to fix it. Well, he did fix it against Florida, and they caused turnovers to the Gators. I mean, no matter where you are, I mean, half with Alabama, half with the other side with Georgia and Auburn, the turnover battle is like, okay, what did I just say about who wins the rushing battle every game is important to me.
Well, the turnover battle is right there, too. I mean, how many teams are going to have four turnovers and the other team only has one and still wins? Well, not many. I mean, that's hard to overcome because you're just giving the ball to people. And, you know, it's kind of like an error in baseball. I've always said that they need to have two stats when it comes to errors in baseball. They need error and almost earned error. But if the error turns into a run, then that makes it even more of a problem, right?
And, of course, that's pitcher dependent because after the fielder gives up the error, then the pitcher has to do his job to get out of the trouble. But still, errors can lead to longer innings, can lead to longer pitch counts, et cetera. But sometimes errors aren't big of a problem if they don't lead to a run. Well, if a turnover, you know, leads to them turning around and going three and out. Now, if the turnover happens on your opponent's four-yard line, you're in trouble, right? I mean, so there are different kind of turnovers, but still, you've got to take advantage of the turnovers.
Any good team does, and that's the mark of a great team to take advantage of the turnovers. Call them and then you can't just call them. You've got to take advantage of them. You've got to – it's like I've said many occasions, and Albert did this. If you're going to beat a team like Georgia, like Alabama, like the teams that are at the top of the list, doing the turnovers is only part of it. You've got to take advantage. You get four turnovers, and if you score three points, one field goal out of the fourth possession, you get it, it don't mean a d*** thing.
But if you get four turnovers and you score 17 points or two touchdowns, then you're talking. Harold alluded to it at the beginning of the segment. Incredible, incredible Saturday. Obviously, we've talked a lot about Alabama and LSU, but Texas at Missouri, that's a tricky game for Texas. Kentucky at Tennessee, can they keep the chemistry? They're plus 13 in turnovers. Can they slow down the Tennessee running game? And then Texas A&M at South Carolina. We talked about this yesterday. Beamers off the hot seat after winning three. They should win four more.
And then you alluded to the Miami-Notre Dame game, Oregon and Ohio State. Look, these two or three weekends come along for us. We've been covering this for decades. But you just salivate at a weekend like this because nearly every slot, early, afternoon, mid, you've got an intriguing game. Well, you do. And I think the Kentucky-Tennessee game is going to be very interesting. I mean, I think that Tennessee's defense going up against Kentucky's offense is interesting. It is. What's the quarterback situation at Tennessee like? How big could that be, good or bad or ugly?
Obviously, y'all's game with LSU is going to be interesting to see. I think the biggest part of that game to me right now is the LSU quarterback. He's playing really, really good football right now. And I think that's what you've got to worry about more than anything with LSU is how good he's playing. Yeah, there's some really good games. There's no question it's going to be all day long. I think South Carolina obviously has got to feel good about itself, and I understand that. But, you know, as I told you yesterday on our show, it's just good to see Shane so humble about everything with the way he's coaching and everything.
But it's a great week. It is what we love in college football. And, you know, they go so quick, though. You know, I was saying it's like, my gosh, you root for it to get here, and then when it gets here, you blame it. It's like, h***, we're two-thirds through the season. You know, you only have so many Saturdays like this in the whole year, and it's tough to see it go so fast. But you've got to sit back, especially like me. I'm not going to Ole Miss.
[46:43] I can just sit back and sit in a chair and watch the games from noon to midnight and enjoy the heck out of it, only if my team wins. Braves, I have had several people ask me, what are you hearing? Of course, free agency began this week, but, you know, this question is always here. What are the Braves going to do about the starting pitching? And I know we all want at least one veteran, durable starter, but you do have a lot of these guys coming back.
Are they going to stretch out Fuentes? What's Bryce Elder, Grant Holmes? Are they going to be huge parts of this? What are they going to do with Spencer Strider, put him in the bullpen? Malley, of course, pitched really well. And, again, of course, the strikes can be here next time we turn around. Again, how do you feel about the starting pitching moving forward? Well, I don't like it. I mean, I never like it. I was complaining in the 1990s they needed one more. So, what do I know?
You know, I don't like it. I mean, I think they need to bring back Malley. I think they need to get another one or two. I just think I'm still old school. I still think starting pitching needs to be seven innings or more. And I'm going to go to my grave, you know, in 40 years saying the same thing. And they'll probably be, you know, two innings starters by then for Kyle. It'll be ridiculous. But, I mean, they need help. I mean, they need help. They need to redo some things.
They need to trade Acuna. You know, they say that there's going to be a lot of activity between now and the lockout on December 1st at midnight. 11.59 on December 1st is when the lockout will begin. Nothing's happened so far. Monday at 5 o'clock, we've not seen one thing happen. So, not only with the Braves and baseball in general. No trades, no free agents of somebody signing somebody else. So, I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know if it's going to be slow or fast. I mean, they projected, the projection was that there will be a ton of back, but not yet.
I mean, the Braves can either run it back and try to go at it again, which I think is moronic and stupid. Yep, it is. Or they can shake this up and get this team ready. Now, again, I always have a disclaimer that the form system for the Atlanta Braves right now is in the best shape it's been in in a long time. Perhaps even going back to the mid-nights. I mean, even maybe better than a decade ago. It's that good. Now, there's a lot of players that do need to get to double-A and prove even more, but I really like what I see in this farm system.
And I think this time, this next year, it's going to be a top-10 farm system. It may be in the high teens right now, but I think it's a really good farm system. There's some really good talent on the way, and they've got to keep that in mind. And to be honest, I want to tell you what my approach would be. Not knowing what this 2027 season is going to be, if it's going to be a 100-game schedule or maybe it's 162, I don't know. I would punt in 2027.
I would. I would get everything ready to try to have a heck of a team in 2028. I mean, they need pitching, don't get me wrong. But I would not go just full bore. I mean, first of all, you don't know what the rules are going to be. You don't want to get a lot of players and all of a sudden have to trade them because you've got too much money on the books because of the salary. Yeah, that's a good point. I mean, I think you have to – I mean, I would just punt on 2027.
I would. I mean, I know people are saying, you've got to be crazy. But I just – I don't know what this lockout is going to do to the sport and to the season. And, you know, what people would say in response to that, though, is that, hey, right before the other lockout in 2021 and then in 95 after the lockout, after the strike, the Braves won the World Series both times, so maybe they go for it. But we'll see. It's going to be an interesting month to see for the rest of November how much activity there will be.
No question about it. We'll enjoy the heck out of tomorrow. Hopefully the respective teams will do their thing. Now, if any of our devoted listeners and Bill Shanks fans would like to call in this afternoon and predict Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, et cetera, where can they go? We are actually taking phone calls this afternoon. We don't do that very much on Fridays anymore because we have a roundtable. And with that, we open the door and say hello to Mike Hugin, national college football slash basketball analyst down in town called Orlando, Florida.
Mike, welcome in. First time we've been able to say that in November. How are you? Doing well and looking forward to what looks to be the best Saturday of the season. Extremely important day tomorrow. No question. You know, last week it was kind of a taste of what happened with Ohio State. But before we get into some of the specifics, your thoughts, just from afar, who's got the most to lose? Who's got the most to gain? And how will this deck shuffle out come Monday after this weekend?
Yeah, I think there's a couple of teams that are, if you lose tomorrow, you can kiss your playoff hopes goodbye. I think Notre Dame is one. I think Ohio State is one. I think Ole Miss is one. And I think BYU could be facing the same thing. And Tennessee is another. And if Alabama were to, I think the Alabama LSU loser is going to be gnashing their teeth the rest of the way. But tomorrow, yeah, it's a shakeout Saturday or whatever. I'm sure ESPN will have something tomorrow.
But it is a gigantic, gigantic day. A lot of teams will be seeing their playoff hopes go up in smoke. Now, next year at this time, tomorrow would be, oh, well, they lost. It's not going to matter. And I think that's the idea of a 2014 playoff. That's why partly it's bothersome to me. The games tomorrow have real stakes involved. If this were next year at this time, there would be very few stakes involved. Well, Matt, let me ask you this. Everybody says that first poll doesn't matter that much from the committee.
[1:02:56] Or does it? Because you look at Alabama, everybody thought they'd be maybe nine or ten, somewhere in that range. They get five. So, obviously, if they get blown out at LSU, it's one thing. But let's just say it's a one-two, a three-point game. When you're at number five and you lose on that field to a ranked team like LSU, what does that do for Bama with three losses? I think it makes them a little bit worried, but you're right. I mean, they're not going to – I think they'd still be in the top 12.
So, as long as you're in the top 12, you're – and obviously, you have to win out. But there's still – you know, even after tomorrow, there's three weeks left. So, it would not – I think I'd be angst-ridden if I'm a Tide fan, if they lose tomorrow. But I would not be like, oh, our season's over. We have no chance. As long as it's a close – if it's a close loss, given where they're ranked. And you're right. The first poll, it's sort of – it's like, you know, NASCAR race.
If you start near the front, you have a good chance to finish near the front. You're what you're supposed to do. So, I think where Alabama is ranked is a gigantic positive if they were to lose a close game to them all. Let's talk about some of the national games in swing back to the SEC. You mentioned Miami and Notre Dame. Fighting Irish, a five-and-a-half-point favorite. Miami lost Malachi Tony, of course, their dynamic receiver. Mike, my biggest concern about Miami has been their defense. The first five games of the year, they were only giving up 10 points a game.
The last three, they've allowed 93 points in three games to Florida State, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina. Now, their offense is still incredible, obviously, with Mensah and some of the other players. Notre Dame's got a veteran offensive line. They're running the ball better. Notre Dame's five-and-a-half-point favorite. Mike, do they win in cover? Yeah, I think they win. I'm not sure about the cover aspect. And you're right about Miami's defense has been pitiful. And you mentioned Pitt, backup quarterback. Florida State, extremely bad team. They fired their coach. North Carolina, they had their best offensive game of the year, frankly, against Miami.
So, the issue for Miami tomorrow, yes, Malachi Tony is a difference maker. There's nobody else on the Miami roster that can take a five-yard pass and go 70 yards. He has three times as many catches as any other Miami receiver. I think if you add up the total receptions for the second, third, and fourth receivers on Miami's roster, they only have two or three more combined than Tony does by himself. So, that is a big loss, but Miami's still going to move the ball. I think Notre Dame is going to move the ball also.
You mentioned the Notre Dame offensive line. Miami's defensive line has been problematic. Miami's secondary is bad. It's a bad secondary. CJ Carr should be able to pick them apart. Notre Dame's best receiver, the face-on kid, is from Fort Lauderdale. He'll be playing against guys he's known for his entire life. He'll have a chip on his shoulder. I think Notre Dame wins because I think Notre Dame can take advantage of Miami's secondary. But I think it will be a close game. But, again, if Notre Dame loses, they should not be mentioned for the playoff again because they have a two-game schedule.
That's it. And if they lose both those games, you know, quit talking about them. You're going to get a lot of amens in this neck of the woods. I promise you, Mike. Mike, you're going to ask your college football slash basketball analyst. The number 12 team in the country is a three-and-a-half point dog. That's Ole Miss. That's because they're taking on the number two Bulldogs from Georgia. Let's face it, Ole Miss has no wiggle room here to keep rocking in the postseason. No. And I think, you know, Gunner Stockton, to me, is the key.
Ole Miss, Georgia defense is really good. Ole Miss is going to move the ball. I think Smart is a little bit irritated by how well Ole Miss moved the ball in last year's football playoff. But Lacey, from what I understand, is not going to play. That's a gigantic loss for Ole Miss. The key to me is Gunner Stockton. No, he's not going to out-duel Trinidad Chambers. But Stockton had a horrible game against Auburn. He's the reason Georgia lost. Last week against Florida, he didn't have to do anything because Florida self-destructed.
He threw up for 111 yards. If Gunner Stockton has an average game, George is going to be fine because an average game for Stockton is throwing for 230, two touchdowns, a run for 40 yards, and Georgia will be fine. If Stockton plays like he did against Auburn, Georgia's in trouble. I don't think he'll play that way. I don't think the Ole Miss front is going to be able to stop the Georgia rushing attack. Georgia is going to give up points. But I think Georgia, I think they're simply going to outscore Ole Miss.
[1:08:14] I think it'll be high 20s, low 30s. But I don't think Ole Miss can stop Georgia enough times to win the game. Mike, let me ask you about the Holy War. That game is literally their local time in Utah, 10 a.m., which is ridiculous. One of the big keys, L.J. Martin may come back. Tremendous running back. He has been out for a while. But this is a showcase for the quarterbacks. Dampier, Bayer, Bachemeier. Utah has won 14 consecutive games, longest in the country. They're a five-and-a-half-point favorite.
This is a top-seven matchup on ABC. Your thoughts? Yeah, this is a great game. The idea, you're right, that ridiculous is too nice to word. You know, I don't know why this couldn't have been an afternoon game. Absolutely. Utah's defense, especially for the Big 12, exceedingly physical. This is a great quarterback. Matt Bachemeier was awesome against Notre Dame with Al Hayes and Ray Martin. Devin Dampier, you look at him, you're like, come on. And then you watch him play, you're like, oh, my God, this guy's fun to watch.
He's a short guy, but he runs well. He's got a nice arm. Moves around the pocket well. Sort of a poor man's trinity at Chambles, in a way. And, you know, I grew up in the South. I'm a huge SEC guy. There are phenomenal rivalries in the SEC, phenomenally nasty rivalries. I am not sure that there is a nastier rivalry than you are. But you're right. I mean, think about it. It's called the Holy War because there's religion involved. And as everybody knows, no matter what part of the country you live in, religion is a hot topic.
And there are Utah fans who do not like the LDS, the Church of the Latter-day Saints. So, this is a nasty game. It will be a nasty game. There will be a lot of cheap shots. There will be playing to the echo of the whistle, that kind of stuff. I think Utah's defense gets this done. Bachmeier is a better passer than Dampier. Dampier's a better runner. Should be a phenomenal quarterback matchup. I think Utah's defense gets the job done. And Utah has a great chance to go unbeaten, which is sort of amazing, considering that Kyle Whittingham left.
Yes. Yeah. So, this is, in BYU loss, they got destroyed by UCF. I'm sorry, they lost to UCF, which just didn't turn around and got destroyed by Baylor. So, that loss looks really bad. And if Notre Dame were to lose to Miami, BYU beating Miami sort of becomes a, I mean, BYU beating Notre Dame, rather, becomes a big deal. So, this is a highly, highly important day for BYU to win. Mike Hegan, a National College football slash basketball analyst. A lot of folks have been saying, Stark and Arch, show me that you are worthy of your payroll.
Will Texas be able to do it in the show-me state tomorrow of Missouri? Yeah, I think that, yeah, it's weird. I trust Austin Simmons more than I trust Arch Manning. And I don't think Austin Simmons is a top-five quarterback in the SEC this year. That's how little I think Arch Manning is. I think the Texas defense, though, that front six is talented, it's aggressive, and it makes plays even without Colin Simmons. I was highly, highly dubious of the Texas linebackers. One came in from Pitt, one from FSU, Biles and Cryer.
Those dudes are playing high-level football. And Austin Simmons, when Missouri runs the ball, is really, really good. Games that Missouri has not been able to run, it has lost. And Austin Simmons has been not even ordinary. So, I think this all comes down to the old, the Texas defensive front. I think they will get the job done. I think Texas wins an ugly game, close. And this is sort of an elimination game, too. If Texas loses this, I don't see how it's going to play off.
Even with the win over Ohio State, and if Missouri loses, they have no chance to make the playoff. So, a gigantic game tomorrow in Columbia. But I think Texas wins. This is another show I wish we had an hour with you to break down all these incredible games. Listen, enjoy the heck out of it tomorrow. Get the refreshments ready from 10 a.m. to midnight. It's going to be fun. Have a great weekend. Let's do this again next Friday. Excellent. Thanks, guys. There you have it. [1:18:51] Welcome back again. Quickly, in case you missed it, Mike Hogan, the previous guest, always makes his picks. And if you missed it, he has LSU knocking off Alabama 31-23, covering the spread, which right now is 6, BB. Well, we'll give our predictions, Harold Bugg, at the end of the show. Why don't we just go ahead and say hello in the meantime to Zach Pounders. He's got a plate full of action tonight when it comes to high school playoff action. Zach Pounders is busy there with the Shoals Sports Report.
Zach, welcome in. I would imagine you're gearing up for a busy night. How are you? Yes, doing good. How are y'all? Hey, bud. Well, probably not as busy as you are right now tonight. Where do you start to get the party started for Zach Pounders with all this playoff action getting underway tonight in our neck of the woods? Let's start with the story of the night, basically, I think. Or what will be the story of the night when it comes to the end, hopefully. Dershler, Central Lake County.
Yep. Central Lake County, coached by Danny Horn, 380 career wins, 8 state championships at three different schools. He's won so much, and the whole thing is coaches win games, coaches players in positions to win games. And Dershler, I said, it's going to be the first round, might be tough in the second round. And he's retired in the season, regardless. He announced that preseason. There's so many numbers there on a preview that we've put off load, but so much on the line at Dershler. I've coached him all the time.
The ball bounce was a little different on Friday night at Howard Troubles. Yeah, you're exactly right. Dershler, 28-3 all-time in first-round games. Now, Kendrick Gunn, Armani Jones, Harold Grant, our great running backs. Bryson Williams, I'm curious about whether or not he'll be playing tonight. But you're right. The amazing thing about it is, we talked about this a little bit yesterday, Dershler and Central Clay. Well, I mean, Danny Horn has never played Dershler. You would think in all the years he's been a coach, but he's never played against Dershler.
Wow. And one more thing about Ross, and he just played the night from Lopperd. He could have played last week. Now, they held him out a little more way just to get him healthier for the playoffs. Okay. Stay tuned for that. Let's talk about road shows. This time of the year, you want that home cooking because you know if you don't, you go on the road. It is a trip. Just ask Muscle Shoals, a team that started out one way, and Dr. Jekyll is turning to Mr. Hyde.
They got the long ride down to Oxford. Six and three, Muscle Shoals taking on seven and two, Oxford. Yeah, another odd stat here, Muscle Shoals was the last Oxford playoff loss at home, I think in the first round, maybe. Wow. In 2017 or 2016, and then Oxford even is between 17, and that's the second round. But another game where the historical stat puts out hypothetical lines each week of how close the game might be, and then Muscle Shoals was at one point a favorite on this game. I don't think that's accurate.
I think it could go either way. Oxford plays in that place, a lot more region. They've had closer games over the season than they should have possibly. But Muscle Shoals, it's not road on fifth. It's what Coach Jardins said preseason, and they're rolling again, lost to Russell, Florence, and Hoover. I don't think you find a better three-loss team in the state than that. Yep. But for Oxford, Muscle Shoals, it's a long bus ride. However, I trust Muscle Shoals and their experience in the last several years in the playoffs to get this win.
I agree with you. By the way, this game is televised by Alabama Public TV, which is tremendous for a lot of people. Alabama got a commitment from the offensive lineman, Xavier Endicott from Oxford, and his teammates also interested in that, too. Pell City at Russellville, Russellville 91. What a coaching job Daryl Higgins did. Taurus Davis has been running wild the entire season. Trip Cleveland keeps it all together at quarterback. Pell City is one of 23 losing teams. They've lost to a lot of good teams. In fact, their losses were the teams combined 39-9.
But I think Russellville wins tonight in advances. Yeah, you look at Pell City. It could have been one of those better coaching matchups also tonight across the state if they had not got a lot of trouble back in the offseason. Yeah. But for Pell City, you've lost to a significant city, Oxford, Sarah Land, played shot for three losses. Mm-hmm. That might be better than Russellville's three losses on paper. I know. When you look at it in the comments of the mail. But for Russellville, if that win tee, I don't know how many schools will see it in 5-8.
And until you can see it multiple times, it is hard to stop. And I don't know how many teams have 5-8 to stop it and be committed to stopping it the whole night. However, the win tee, if you stop it, he can also throw it. Trip Cleveland, I think it's quarterback's name, can enter that down the field. And Taurus Davis can run wherever on the field, however he wants to. If they can play from my head tonight at Russellville, he should be able to win that game.
[1:23:58] And plus, Coach, he does not lose in the playoffs. He's not lost the playoff game since 2024, I think. And he's only lost one first-round playoff game at Mars Hill with Sandrock, and I think the first playoff print for Mars Hill. So he doesn't lose the playoffs. It's one of those games that's like, if you can beat Russellville, good luck. Yes. That's right. Only one loss on the year for Russell. That was to Florence. Speaking of which, they're cashing in his sort numbers for the Falcons. They are at home opening up 91 Florence, taking on 5-5 St. Clair County tonight.
Yeah, 5-5 is a C-1, just say my thing. They have a 5-5 record. However, they have played, if I can find my numbers here, they have played Oxford within possession. Tennessee lost by one double overtime. Wow. And Sichuan played Kennedy by 3 last week. Wow. The common aspect comes in here also. They have been pitching the Valley 43-26. Florida beat Penns in 45 minutes in their week one. Yeah. But Texas County is not 5-5, as most 5-5 teams will look. I think they're a 5-5 team disguised as a 7-3 team, really.
Mm-hmm. Because a few of those balls went up a different way. And those, I tell you, I think it was a double overtime game. They about went for two and missed at the end. And that goes different. They're 6-4. Moody, they could have won that one. They're 7-3. Central Clay, they're 8-2. Also, they're 9-1. Hmm. Ohanshee, 6-4 at Lexington, 9-1. And, again, I saw that loss to Colbert County with 18 seconds remaining. I've talked about Zane Kilburn and Sawyer Howard the entire year. Ohanshee is, their four losses are the teams with a combined 32-8 record.
So, again, that's a little bit deceiving. Very intriguing game tonight. What, Lexington's one of six, I believe, shows teams at home. Ohanshee and Lexington. Yeah, Ohanshee scored 3-3, who went to the game. And they might have scored 40 a game tonight to get to stay in this game. Lexington's going to score on you. They're going to score 40, 50 a game. They have scored, I want to say 40 or 50 in the last several games. Yeah, since Colbert County, they've scored 47 or more each game. And, really, since the Phil Campbell game, it's been 47 plus a game outside the Carpenter County game.
But, Ohanshee, though, another tough four seed coming in. I think this is a better matchup for Lexington, though, on paper. But, this playoff draw this year locally is tougher than what we had last year on the first round. This is at Oxford, I-20 East, Gagston, and it's in the far of the state where it's going to get the ball. Well, I actually went to the Sand Mountain region first, and that Sand Mountain region is usually a hit or a miss. You're going to get a great team, or a team that's down, and it's going to be better than any other part of the state.
Zach, back to the show of Sports Reports, you're talking about a team with a huge challenge in front of them. Brooks on the road to Leeds. What makes that amazing, they've won 21 straight first-round playoff games. The last time they lost in the first round was to midfield in 1981. Barrett Bryant was still coaching in Alabama the last time these boys lost in the first round, 1981, if I've got that right. But, you know what? The reason they play these games is they don't play it on paper, they play it on the field.
What's going to happen tonight when Brooks invades Leeds? Exactly, and Brooks has won a road foul game, I think, in three of the last four playoff appearances for Brooks. Beat Arnie on the first round three years ago, beat Dora two years ago. So, I mean, for Leeds, if you don't want to play, however, you never know with road trips like this. The good part is for Brooks fan base, Buckees right down the road, so before and after you can go to the Buckees, and then either way.
That's right, you can't lose. That's pretty good. Wilson, we had Trey Lane on the show earlier this week. In fact, you were there with a remarkable comeback that Wilson had against Calvert County, went for two, converted it, won 34 to 33. They were traveling to Etowah. Etowah, six and four. The Warriors, as you indicated, their first playoff in 2017. They've had a great year. Reese Young, Lucas Rich, Bryant Clemens. Wilson at Etowah tonight. Yeah, this game's also interesting. You'd be hard for us to find a head coach and defense coordinator with more experience than Coach Lane and Coach Willis at Wilson right now.
Coach Willis was at UNA for five-plus years as a head coach, 20-plus years total. And Coach Lane has been at Bruits and James Clemens, Lawrence. He's been around the eyes of this with the NFL, FBS, Bama, Michigan State. So, they have Wilson ready, I think. I don't know if it's a long road trip yet, but I think Wilson will be ready to play this game. I've heard that Etowah's quarterback is out for this game, so they're a little bit down with that. And Etowah has also played up in competition.
[1:29:10] They're treating the schedule of 560, treating the record of 366. Lost to Douglas last week, but for Etowah, they have played south side Gaston and lost 45-0. Lost to Cleveland County, undefeated 3-8, 21-0. However, Wilson is sneaky. If they can get a head, it's kind of like Russell. They run the ball so much, if they can play from the head and get a 7-0, 14-7 kind of lead, they have a sense to win this game. Last week at Calvert County, I thought, when the game started, I thought this game's over.
Was 14-0, 13-0, 25-10, no offensive snap, wild start. However, they didn't quit. And Wilson found their way back into the game and had a chance at the end to go win it. And I have heard that last week, Coach Lewis gave Coach Lane the go-ahead, whatever, to go for two at the end. He said, I think you got to go for two. Whatever happens here, it happens. He fought back into this game, and you roll the dice here, whatever happens, happens. Absolutely. Let's talk about something that's huge this time of the year, and that's home field advantage.
Just ask the folks out at Rogersville, Lauderdale County taking on Hoax Bluff. You got to believe, these guys got to come in tired. That is a trip. If you've ever been there, you know it. Your thoughts about Lauderdale County and Hoax Bluff tonight and Rogersville? To be honest with you, they have never played in a playoff game until now. I don't know how they have agreed with it so long. And basketball, girls, boys, volleyball, softball, baseball, football, they have never met. So, first time meeting here also, but Lauderdale County is going to score also.
Coach Reed is going to want to score 40, 50 a game. I think the number of Lauderdale County is going to be 42, 49 points in this game tonight. If they get to that, they should be able to win. They scored 40-plus in every game this year, except for every game they've won this year. And they scored 40-plus in seven of their last eight. The outlier at Central lost between 1-20. Wow. I wish we had time to go over some of the other games. Hamilton and Alexandria. Vinemont at Central.
I know they lost to an undefeated Hatton team last week, but Heath has had a really, Heath Woods had a really good year. Pleasant Valley at Phil Campbell. Red Bay at Winterboro. Listen, you have got all of this, the previews. You will have the scores tonight. You will have the postgame, the tell of the tape. Where can we get online to get all the information for round one and previews for round two? Yes, we'll be live tonight about 10, 30, or 11 on Facebook, recapping all this tonight. And then previews will be coming this weekend or the next week.

Progressive Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates. The show starts at 6 p.m., and you don't want to miss it. Roll Tide. The Score. Now, back with Boomo Bugg on 93.9 The Score. Welcome back in, Brett. Would you say this is a good weekend to load up the respective man-case across the country? You know, every time we're blessed to have Doug Segrist on the show, I tell him, get the plumbing fixed, look at the TV, make sure it's working, get plenty of snacks, put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. This is the weekend that you check all those boxes.
Yeah, and a lot of folks are going to stock up. The one word they're going to stock up with is bush, either beer or beans. I don't recommend doing both at the same time in that man-cave. Maybe Doug Segrist will disagree with that. He has been voted one of the 50 legends of the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Doug, welcome in. How are you, and how's the man-cave? It is great. I am stocked up. I'm ready to go. I mean, this is as big as his guess. It's his first time in history, top 25 match-ups.
[1:39:40] I mean, it's just incredible. What's the, in terms of baseball, who's the leadoff guy on your menu this weekend, Doug? Ooh, that's tough. And it's going to be Auburn, Arkansas, because I've got to cover that. I mean, it's a good game. That didn't sound right. I mean, it's a good game. I've got to flip over to my top 25. I'm trying to think what the BYU and Utah. Yeah, great game. They're playing at 11 a.m. Oh, my God. Which is 10 a.m. their time. Right. It's 10, mountain, nine.
That's incredible. I mean, yeah, this is early. And all for TV, so Lincoln can complain all he wants to. I think BYU and Utah have bigger gripe. Texas, Missouri, UCLA, Minnesota, again, UCLA is undefeated, really haven't played anybody. But it's a fascinating team to watch. But they haven't had a hiccup yet. So, that's an interesting game. Minnesota's, what, 60-yard field goal away from beating Indiana. That's right. Yeah. And it's an also team, Mississippi State beat by 35. So, it's really interesting. So, I'm going to be multi-channel flip-a-lock.
That's me. So, says Doug Sigrist. Let's talk about a game. We'll get to the SEC. Lots of key match-ups here in a sec. But let's face it. Kind of the thread on the sweater is Notre Dame and Miami for obvious reasons. This, I guess, in terms of two big boys going toe-to-toe. This is it. Going to have major ramifications. Going forward as far as the playoff party, Miami will have to be a top receiver. Your thoughts. Who comes out on top there? I just think Miami's a better team.
I really thought going in Notre Dame was a favorite. They just haven't really shown me anything. They haven't played the schedule to show anything. You know, their only real test, they lose. It was a tough road game, no doubt. I just think Miami is maybe the most complete team in the country right now. Georgia at Ole Miss, we've talked about this game a good bit this week. Georgia has the most complete team probably in the SEC. We'll see. They've got the best defense. But Ole Miss has Trinidad Chambliss.
And can Georgia keep him in the pocket and impact him a little bit? Georgia and Ole Miss, Doug Seegers. Well, you know Kirby's not sleeping at night. That is the kind of quarterback that gives them grace. It does. He's already done it to them two times. That's right. I still think Georgia's the better team. I trust their defense more, and I trust Ole Miss' defense, although it's getting better. But when all is said and done, it is just so hard this year to win on the road in the SEC.
And I think crazy crowd. I just give a slight nod to Ole Miss. And the thing is, where does that drop Georgia going forward? Georgia's gotten the benefit of the doubt with only one signature win. Yeah. So, Doug, that one signature win is also on the road. I assume you're alluding to Alabama. It's on the road. Vegas says give it up. LSU's going to win by six. We know that Lane has a mat on because he wanted, according to a lot of reports, that job in Tuscaloosa.
If he can, he's going to do like the old Steve Spurrier and look at the scoreboard and say mo, mo, mo to go back to the disco days. Alabama's got their backs to the wall. Looking on paper, sure they got some healthy guys back, at least on paper. We'll see how, as far as 100% they are. But, Doug, what happens tomorrow afternoon in Baton Rouge? I just think right now LSU is the better team because we haven't seen Alabama at full strength. We don't know if being at full strength, if they're truly, you know, 100% ready to go.
Alabama has to start, you know, fast. You can't do another, okay, we're down 14-0, we're down 17-0. Or we've gone three straight, three and out to start the game. They've got to start fast. That's right. The defense has to force turnovers. And God knows this LSU team is capable of three or four turnovers on a day. But I just think Alabama has to bring a game. You know, the Alabama of September, early October could win this going away. LSU's gotten better, though. So, right now, I just favor LSU, and I think the line's about right.
Kentucky at Tennessee. Tennessee's got all sorts of impressive defensive stats. Number two, pass defense in the SEC. They lead the league in sacks, et cetera. But Kentucky's got it. They're plus 13 in turnover margin, and Kenny Mencey's only thrown one interception. Can the incredible season for the Kentucky Wildcats continue in Knoxville? I think it can. I think on paper, Tennessee is far superior. But this is a Kentucky team that might have 62 yards total offense with two minutes left in the game, and yet somehow they're going to drop 99 yards for the starting touchdown, and then they're going to win it in overtime.
[1:45:23] This team believes in itself. It does. And with the exception of the second half of Alabama, you know, they have put themselves in a position to win every game. I still think, I mean, listen, Tennessee, me and handled Alabama, the defense has been really good at times, but they've also been shredded at times. And this is very much a one-dimensional offense. So, if things aren't going right, if you can take Deshaun Bishop out of the equation, they've got problems. And so, I'm speaking with the feel-good story, Kentucky.
Doug, it's amazing that here we are in November. If we're going back to the preseason and made just statements like, what are you drinking? But this weekend, there's a scenario where both Texas and Ohio State could probably be eliminated from the playoff picture. If, if, if, if, if. Your thoughts about Texas and Ohio State's weekend. Yeah, and, and I'm not going to eliminate either one of them just because, you know, we, we talk about schedules all the time. Well, Ohio State has played an SEC schedule.
And they got burned last week with a backup quarterback. And, and again, a game that came to the wire, down the wire. There are some reasons, just like, you know, the, the committee gave Alabama credit for the Kentucky win, for the Mississippi State win, for Kamario Taylor got lost, for South Carolina, which looks much better now than it did then, and for losing, again, Tennessee with, with a lot of injuries. You've got to give the same credit to Ohio State. Texas has lost Hollywood Smothers, but, but their injuries have been more manageable.
Again, they've gone out and played the schedule. I, I think if these teams are 9-3 at the end of the season, that they both have a great shot of getting in. At some point, you've got to pay off people who are willing to take on challenges. They've played the biggest knockout game. They've got big wins. I, I, I don't know. I just don't think this is a knockout game. Compared to, say, Alabama-LSU, that could very well be a knockout game. Absolutely. Well, the best slate. We had to talk to Doug Segrish today about the best slate of the season for college.
Oh, get the manhouse, the man cave ready for everything. Uh, certainly enjoyed the conversation. Have a great and fun football Saturday, my friend. Let's just pray the internet stays on. Brett Beaird, what's you got? West Florida at UNA. The Lions five and a half point favorite. West Florida struggles. They've got the worst passing attack in the country. Avery Howard, Kay Moore Harris, Kay Natkins have. We'll begin getting after the quarterback. UNA's offensive line is banged up. But Destin Wade makes enough plays for UNA to win at home 28-17. Rick back with us again. Kentucky at Tennessee, we've talked about this game a lot. 5-15 Central on ESPN. Kentucky plus 13 turnover margin. Mincy only one interception. Tennessee runs the ball for 175 yards, controls the clock.
Kentucky stays in this game to the bitter end. Tennessee wins. Tennessee 28, Kentucky 27. Auburn. Thank you, Rick. Auburn in a get-right game. Arkansas 126 in scoring. That's pitiful. 19 points a game. Auburn runs for 200 yards and keeps the turnovers to one. KJ Jackson makes some plays, but not enough. Auburn 24, Arkansas 14. The battle at Red Stick, Alabama in LSU. If Rayson Delgadie, Terrence Green, Coleman Williams, Zabian Brown, and Crowell are healthy, that's a major difference. Alabama has got the turnover margin. Kaelin DeBoer, 8-0 after bye weeks. Alabama surprises LSU 31-28 in the Bayou.
And my stupid underdog pick, Texas. Texas, did I do it again, is the favorite over Missouri, 2-and-a-half points. No. Missouri's plus 5 in turnover margin. Texas minus 5. Missouri upsets Texas and Columbia. Stop it! Oh, boy. Yeah, let's see what I can do in the 17-and-a-half seconds I got left here. UNA in West Florida. I got to go with UNA, 27-22. It's on the home for Tennessee, Kentucky. It's tight. It's tight. 25-24. Yeah, baby. And keep the train going. Auburn and Arkansas battle the A-teams. 29-24. The Tigers resurrect.
[1:55:32] Alabama LSU. If Alabama can get a playbook on both sides of the ball, they got a chance. Otherwise, Lane's going to run up the score, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt that they finally go to school and learn some things. So, Alabama, 27-24. If. Yeah, baby. If, baby, they can get that playbook right on both sides of the ball. And since you went ahead and jumped ahead there. Again? Yes, again, I'll take mighty Utah State of a Fresno State. 28-25. What'd you say, my friend?
