[0:00] Now, get ready to roll, Shoals, Decatur, Athens and all of Northwest Alabama and Southern Tennessee. It's time for the Valley's exclusive FM Sports Voice. The Boomo Bugg Show. Your exclusive inside track to the tie, Tigers, Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. Now, your host, Harold Bugg on 93.9. The Sports. Good afternoon and welcome into the Boomo Bugg Show. I'm Harold Bugg alongside Brett Beaird. Thank you so much for giving us free ride around the Tennessee Valley. Brett Beaird recommends where we're on the eve of who gets the tricks and who gets the treats on the Gridirons this weekend.

Good afternoon, welcome in and how are you? Happy Halloween and happy Football Friday to you and the listeners. We'll preview the top games in college football this weekend with Blake Lovell and Mike Hugen a little bit later. Zach Pounders with the Shoals Sports Report. We'll recap a very busy Thursday night of high school football. But Jimmy is here right now to preview Alabama's bi-week and preparations to face LSU next Saturday. And he is probably trying to answer the biggest question. What does a guy who loves Alabama football do on off weekend?

Jimmy Stein's got the answer to that and more. He's co-hosted Locked On Bama, part of the Locked On Network, with Luke Robinson and cover Crimson Podcasts with that Rascal Travis Reier on YouTube. Jimmy, welcome in. How are you? Oh, doing great, guys. Thanks for having me back. You too. The big question, Jimmy, what are you going to do with yourself this weekend? No Alabama football. This is what I'm going to do. I'm going to enjoy college football dress-free. And I will enjoy watching what amounts to half of Alabama's peers in the sport lose.

There's going to be a lot of losing on Saturday. Alabama will benefit from it in some ways. So, just enjoying college football, watch game day and weird that maybe some of the best games of the day might be big 12 games. I remember when the last time I've ever said that was, but that seems to be the case tomorrow. So, I'm just going to enjoy college football all day and into the night. Your cardiologist is going to be bored because the heart's not going to be up with the blood pressure.

So, maybe you can get back and give them some business next week. But, let's face it, this has been a banged up team. But, the other side of that argument, most teams are banged up at this point. Your thoughts about Alabama and this off week. Jimmy, is it safe to say priority number one is to get the troops, the front-line troops, back as healthy as possible? Maybe you can fill in the details of who that may be. And, Steph Scout, just what can we do better on offense?

What can we do better on defense? What can we do better overall? Well, one of the things to improve the offense and the defense is getting guys back. I mean, it was getting a little critical there. Look, Alabama was running the ball pretty well. Through the first four or five games, a monstrous improvement really over last season, those first four or five games. Last two or three games, it slipped, starting to look a little bit like last year. And why is that? Well, two reasons. Number one reason is, you're missing guys.

You don't have to start in center. The running back that's averaging the highest yard per carry number, E.J. Crowell, he's out. The wide receiver that can manipulate how the defense lines up, he's out. You got other guys playing that are banged up. Even Keelan's a little banged up. Michael Carroll's a little banged up. Guys that are playing doesn't mean that they're 100% healthy. So, I think just getting everyone back. The good news for Alabama and Alabama fans is that a lot of these guys are just banged up and not seriously injured.

Most of them will be back. Now, you won't have Will Sanders back at left guard. No. But Mal Waldrop is now a pretty experienced player on that offensive line. He can get back to his more comfortable position at left guard if Rayson Delgatti is back, and that is the expectation or the hope. You get Ryan Coleman Williams back, and he's a game-changing playmaker. You're going to need that in Baton Rouge. Josh Ford, a little healthier. I don't think he's been himself since breaking his arm. That's not an unfair, not being harsh on Josh, but I'm not sure he's been the same, basically playing with one arm out there.

So, you get a lot of these guys back on offense and guys back on defense, too. You know, Terrence Green, I think, has been tremendously missed. Zabian Brown, probably the best defensive player Alabama's put on the field in 2026. He's been out, so you probably get him back. So, just getting those guys back is going to help the offense and the defense considerably. I would, you know, last year against Georgia in the SEC championship game, that was a really, really beat-up football team, especially on offense, right?

[5:13] Well, they got a little bit of rest, and they went to Norman, and they got off to a bad start. But they beat Oklahoma and Norman. There is no way that Alabama team that played that day in the SEC championship game would have beat Oklahoma and Norman and Tuscaloosa and Kalen DeBoer's front yard, back yard. They wouldn't have beat Oklahoma anywhere that day, but they got some rest. They got some guys back, and they were capable enough to win a playoff game on the road. Jimmy, Alabama may have played better in the fourth quarter against Texas A&M than they'd played in the previous two games.

Russell was finished the game 9 of 10. He was 5 of 5 in the fourth quarter. Easy throws to running backs and tight ends. And Daniel Hill is someone else that needs to be used a little bit more in the passing game. But the tight ends caught two touchdowns. Alabama scored two touchdowns in about five minutes. The defense, Hale, takes A&M to not one first down in the fourth quarter. They just look more in rhythm, and particularly the offense. Russell had a couple of quarterback sweeps with blockers in front of him.

Jimmy, could they take that template in the fourth quarter and use it moving forward? No doubt. There was some physicality that was back on both sides of the ball, too. I think if there's the best tribute all season to how good of a job David Ballou does with the strength and conditioning program is that Alabama played its best football eight weeks without a bye. And in the fourth quarter of that eighth game, they played maybe their best football of the year. That's a tribute to the work that Ballou and his staff do, getting the team physically ready.

To say nothing of the fact that Alabama did that with a lot of their depth. Because not only did you go into the game shorthanded, you got more shorthanded as the game went on, and they were still able to put that together. So it's a heck of a thing to build on. I'm sure they have. And you're not only getting guys back. Hopefully, you still have that memory, you know, right there of what it feels like to have a pretty dominating performance, even if it was just over the last 20 minutes of the game.

Jimmy Stein locked on Bama. Jimmy, let's fast forward. Obviously, you know there's going to be a lot of tweaking here in the off week. On both sides of the equation next Saturday, and let's face it, Saturday, not Saturday night at Baton Rouge. That is always significant. Both teams are hungry for a win. Both teams coming in with similar records, and we know that Lane wanted that job in Tuscaloosa. So you know he has blood in his eyes. Your thoughts just about the significance of this game for both teams.

And, you know, if you're just brand new to this series, you say, well, my gosh, the game is at LSU. If you go back and you look at history, there was a stretch where it was almost automatic. When Alabama played down there, they won. When LSU played up here, they won. It's a strange series. Your thoughts just about the pressure on both sides to win, because let's face it, this is that pivotal game down the stretch. If you're going to be serious about going deep into the playoffs or even making the playoffs.

There's multiple storylines here, all of which are interesting. But in my mind, it just really boils down to this. Both teams will and should treat this like it's an elimination game. Someone, when this game is over, one team or the other should feel like they just lost their way out of the college football playoff. And on the way to Nashville for the Music City Bowl, probably. Very possibly. Very possibly if you lose this game. So that's what both teams are. So it's going to be intense.

I think both teams will feel that pressure. Both coaches will feel that pressure. Now, here's the reality, though. It's not really true. You're not really out. As a matter of fact, I would pay attention to Alabama fans Tuesday night in the college football rankings this Tuesday. You would think that's not important at the first rankings. A lot of people think they should stop ranking the teams and stop putting it on a show. I disagree, and this is why. Well, Tuesday night, let's just say that Alabama is 10th.

That's kind of what I would guess is going to happen in both of the other polls, right? So let's say Alabama's 10th. LSU will be about 13 or 14, most likely. I'm just guessing here. If you're 10 and you lose to the 13th or 14th team, how far are you falling? Not very. Not very. I mean, maybe you fall down to, let's just say, 16. Well, you've got three weeks to move five spots. That's not unrealistic at all. So I don't think the loser of the game is out, but I will say this.

I don't recommend it to either team to lose. It's not a good idea. It's not putting you in a good spot. But you're not out. And I think the Tuesday rankings will show that to people, that this really isn't an elimination game, but both teams need to feel like it is. Jimmy, I asked the question in the summer, who's going to be the number three receiver? And I got all sorts of answers. And I always thought it might be Rico Scott. Well, six receptions and 156 yards against Texas A&M, plus his physical blocking has got him number three.

[10:42] Your thoughts on Rico Scott. And Jimmy, do you think we might see if they're healthy, if they work well, if they've been able to work up a little bit in practice, maybe a few more attempts or looks at Noah Rogers? And what are you hearing about AK Deer? Well, great questions. Now, Rico won the third receiver job because he's by far the best blocker in the room. I felt that's exactly why he was out there. And he should be out there because I don't think that's ever going to be a huge strength for Ryan or Lottie because they're just not the biggest guys, right?

I mean, it's not a lack of effort. It's just they're just not the biggest guys in the world. But Rico is. He's not a 6'4'' guy himself, but he's all, you know, ripped up. He looks like a linebacker when you look at him. So Rico's a physical presence. That's why he won the third job. The fact that he's been able to develop also into a playmaker, frankly, it's what made him into it. He's an NFL football player. That's the best way to describe him. He's physical just like they like on Sundays.

And now he can run routes, get open, and make plays. So Rico has really, I think, in his year three turned a corner and developed into a pro football player. And he's an outstanding third receiver for Alabama. And now, for the first time, you'll have a more developed, fully developed Rico Scott, along with Ryan Colham, Williams, and Lottie Brooks. That's a great trio. As to the other two guys you're talking about, Brett, you know, I think that they would like to look more at Noah and A.K. Deer.

But a couple of things, the reason they're not in the starting lineups is because they were hurt. Who knows if they're 100% being cleared to play and playing at 100% are two different things. So perhaps they're just not back to what they were. We wouldn't really know that. They can track that these days with the machinery they put in their pads. They know if they're back to full speed, literally, or if they're back to moving the same weight they were moving in the weight room. They know all that stuff, and we don't.

The information we'll never know is fans or supporters of the program. So I'm guessing with Noah and A.K. Deer both, what makes sense to me is that they're not back to what they were. Because A.K. Deer was the best running back on the team during a portion of fall camp. Noah Rodgers was absolutely one of the top three receivers on the team this past spring. So at their best, they can really contribute. The fact that they're not tells me that they're not at their best.

And that's probably why we're not seeing them. The second thing, though, guys, is I think against LSU, the number of players you play with the game on the line probably shrinks a little bit. But against Vanderbilt, UT Chattanooga, and even Auburn, it'll expand back up. So I do think we'll see more of Noah and A.K., but it's probably going to be Nashville, Tuscaloosa, not Baton Rouge. Jimmy, this is weird. You're using logic. This is 2026. Come on, Jimmy. That's a foreign language. Let me ask you this, Jimmy.

Two things. You're circling back to RCW. One of the things he brings to the table, to me, is the X factor. It causes defenses to spend time practicing to cover him, which burns up clock. Everybody's on a clock now because per NCAA rules, that's one factor. The other side of the coin, what is Alabama's secondary going to do to slow down Lane, who is a master at sitting here and, oh, there's that guy, Dijon Lee over there. If one thing that Lane is good at, he knows where your Achilles heel is, your thoughts just about the importance, just from an intangible standpoint, of having Williams, at least right now, looks like he's going to be back.

And then trying to cut down on the passage of the boundary, and big Lane loves to get four or five yards on first down. Who doesn't? But then he's going to go for it on fourth down once he does that. One thing about getting Ryan back that's so big, and it's really a compliment to Ryan and maybe not so much a compliment to what the rest of the offense is doing, but Ryan is pretty much the only player on the Alabama offense that's a where-is-he type guy.

In other words, when the offense comes out on the field and gets lined up, the defense is looking around, where's number one? That's right. The D.C. up in the box or on the sidelines, one of the first things they identify is where did number one line up? They don't do that with any other player at Alabama, not Daniel Hill, not Trey Sean Brown, not E.J. Crowell, not Lottie or Rico or the wide receivers or the tight ends. Although, I do think Alabama needs to be careful about making Marshall Pritchett a tell.

You know, it does seem a ton. See the Tennessee game. Yeah, when Marshall's in, they throw it, and when Marshall's out, they run it. You don't need to turn into that. You have to be careful about that. But Ryan is the only guy that manipulates how the defense lines up because they're concerned about where he is. So they've missed him because when you've got a player like that that manipulates the defense and how they line up, you can use that. Thank you. Even when you don't plan to throw it to number one.

[16:08] Yeah, he's a heck of a decoy because the defense will line up a certain way to protect against Ryan making a big play. So, yeah, getting him back is absolutely huge. As far as Lane and his motivations, you know, I know Lane would rather beat Alabama than anybody on his schedule. I'm sure that's true. But I also think Lane's going to be plenty motivated to beat Texas and at Tennessee. He's got a lot of tough games coming up. He's an outstanding play caller. Obviously, Charlie Weiss, supposedly, calls the plays down there in Baton Rouge.

They'll have a smart plan. Sam Leavitt, I believe, now leads the SEC in passing yards, you know, total passing yards. I don't think he's been the player that Keelan's been. But Leavitt gets better all the time. I think he's gone two straight games without turning it over. Keelan Russell's going to throw for a lot of yards. I'm anticipating it being a very exciting, close football game that could go either way in the fourth quarter. Mm-hmm. Jimmy, great stuff. Always enjoyed the conversation, buddy. Enjoy Saturday sitting on the couch.

He's got the entire SEC covered. That's where else? Southeastern 16. College basketball news there as well is your book is Blue Ribbon. His podcast is Establish the Past. Blake Lovell, welcome in. How are you? Yeah, doing well, guys. Good to know you as always. Well, here's the first question. Is this weekend, is it sponsored by Bud Light, Miller Light, or NCC Light as far as the schedule this weekend? Yeah, I'd say one of the weaker ones in the year outside of the usual week where everyone's playing FCS teams.

But, like, yeah, it's not a lot of kind of action-packed, juicy storylines. But I think, you know, the biggest thing to me still is, you know, you're looking at, despite some of these games not being as high-profile, I mean, some of these games are elimination games. They are. And when it comes to just that logjam of, you know, two-loss teams and all that. So, I mean, again, we talked about it before. I just don't see the SEC getting multiple teams in or anything like that with three losses.

So, a couple of these teams that have got to win this weekend to stay on course. And, yeah, it does make it a little bit more interesting in that department. Let me get your thoughts on Florida-Georgia, this time in Atlanta instead of Jacksonville. We found out about an hour ago, Aaron Filo is going to be the starter for Florida. Both these teams in the bye week, they should be a lot healthier. Georgia's top receivers are much healthier. Most people pick Georgia on this. Can Florida give them a run for their money?

Yeah, I mean, I think when you look at it, I mean, Florida's obviously just been very unpredictable. I mean, it's a team that started the season so well and you think they've completely turned things around and then they just, you know, lose that one game and then all of a sudden they lay the egg against South Carolina and you're just thinking, man, what do we do with this team? And then, oh, by the way, they came back and won in Texas. So, it's just, I think because they've sort of set that foundation, it's like you could certainly see them from a talent standpoint matching up pretty well with Georgia here.

And having a shot, but I almost think, you know, if you're Kirby Smart, you never want to welcome a loss. But with what happened in that Auburn game and having the week off to really, you know, get into your team's head a bit, I would think this is usually kind of the spot where we see Georgia bounce back in a big way. And again, you know, Georgia's one of the two SEC teams with Kentucky. It's kind of giving itself a bit of a mulligan here to where, you know, not saying you can afford to lose one because they still have to go with Ole Miss and, you know, have some tricky games left.

[26:39] But I would think you play a little bit looser coming out of that game against Auburn. And, yeah, I think they get back on track here. And, you know, Blake, Georgia does pretty well on those neutral site games at the Georgia Dome, too. So, you mentioned Ole Miss. They're taking on Auburn. Auburn knocks off Georgia. Ole Miss, again, 2026, it's the Forrest Gump Special. It's kind of a box of chocolates, too. You never know what you're going to get. They're playing at Vaught-Hemingway. Your thoughts about the Tigers and the Rebels.

Yeah, I do think it's another one where, you know, from Ole Miss' perspective, like, this is a pretty significant game. And we knew that if they were kind of in that position, you know, we talk about teams that have dropped games that you don't expect. I mean, that was the Florida game for them. But then, you know, you now have the loss to Texas. And so, you're sitting there, you know, with a team that's got a couple good wins against LSU. And, you know, the one at least to start the season with Louisville was looking fine.

But now, you know, you've got to start to build that resume a bit. And I think, you know, this is the kind of game where, hey, if you're Ole Miss, you're kind of been like, hey, thanks, Auburn. Because if we beat you now, it feels a little bit better in terms of what we've accomplished. And we'll be able to kind of move forward again with that big game on the schedule, which will mean a lot more if Ole Miss wins this game against Auburn. But that one coming up against Georgia in a few weeks.

So, yeah, I think this is one where I tend to lean on Trinidad Chambliss and what they're going to be able to do offensively here. I feel like they can hit maybe a bit of a different level than Georgia was able to against Auburn. But, yeah, I would probably lean Ole Miss. But, man, I mean, like I said, how can you really discount anything with Auburn right now based on the fact that they've done something no one else has done this season. That's go on the road and beat the number one team.

One of the more intriguing games, South Carolina at Oklahoma. South Carolina beating Tennessee and Florida looks like a different team with Lenore Sellers playing the way he did in 2024. Oklahoma upsets Texas. Your thoughts? Yeah, it's another one where it's like, you know, South Carolina has one more in the loss column right now. But, you know, still, if you're South Carolina, you're thinking, hey, if we can win this game, you look at their remaining schedule. Absolutely. You know, they've got Georgia at home and all the other games are very winnable.

So it's like if you were to go on the road and win this one, you know, there's lots of possibilities still remaining for a team that we thought was going to fire their coach about two weeks ago. And so, yeah, that's just the nature of the SEC this year. And, you know, we've said it. I mean, South Carolina is in the same boat as Florida and Oklahoma and Ole Miss. And, like, you just don't know what you're going to get with some of these teams week in and week out.

And that makes the matchup so much more interesting. And I think, you know, we always have tried to lean on Oklahoma's defense to be able to be the separator. It's not always been the case this season. But, you know, I think that may be where this game turns a little bit. But, look, the North Sellers have got some really good things in some of these high-profile matchups. And so, you know, maybe he's able to break through here. But, yeah, to me, this feels like a toss-up because I think with the way these two teams have played this season, you know, you probably tend to go towards the home team here.

And South Carolina has already proven they can go in and win at Florida the way they did and pull off some of these other games. So it should be a fun one. Blake, level of Southeastern 16. Blake, quickly switching gears. You love yourself in basketball. The season opens up next week, the regular season. Coming in, how has your perspective across the league changed based on what you've seen from the respective teams in the preseason warm-ups? Yeah, it's definitely changed a bit. But I think, you know, Florida is still going to be, for most people, the number one team in the country or in the SEC, whichever way you want to put it.

They're right there with Duke and Ashley and things. But I think, look, guys, I've said it. The team, to me, that has moved up the most for me in the offseason is in Alabama. That's not just going by what we saw in the exhibitions. I think it's really studying this team this summer. And when you just look at the trends and the data and all this and what Nados has been able to do, 13 straight wins in the SEC, three straight seasons, 13-plus, you know, five out of the last six, there's no one else that really has that consistency.

And I think when you see the personnel in these exhibition games and you look at Caden Samuels, you know, you look at some of these other freshmen, I think it's going to go really well for Alabama this season. And, yeah, so I think Alabama's been the biggest mover. We weren't really sure what to make of them earlier in the summer, but now I think we've picked them to be second in the SEC behind Florida. The team that maybe I've kind of gone backwards a little bit on is Tennessee.

You know, they got completely just throttled by Duke in that exhibition, lost by 39 points in that one, lost to Xavier. Terrible second half for Tennessee. And, look, guys, we said it towards the end of the transfer portal cycle. Tennessee is building for offense this year and not defense. And I'm really used to that with Rick Barnes' team. And, boy, it could be a bit of a work in progress because they are just not very good defensively right now. Their frontcourt's got a lot of work to do.

[31:43] So, yeah, those are two teams that I think keep an eye on, especially that first couple weeks of the season, to be kind of where they're at. Absolutely. Bill Shanks, welcome in. How are you? I'm good. Hey, Booney. You know, they've been doing this a long time, this Georgia-Florida game. But, Bill, how does it sound that Georgia and Florida will no longer be named the world's largest outdoor cocktail party? It's now the world's largest indoor cocktail party. Sounds strange. Georgia and Florida at the Georgia Dome, Bill. Well, it's for two years. They're redoing the stadium in Jacksonville, so they have to move them out. And so they are going to Atlanta this year and Tampa next year.

And so it should be an interesting day, a different environment, different setting, of course. But it should be very interesting. Absolutely. Aaron Philo was named about an hour ago the starting quarterback for the Gators. Same question I asked when we talked yesterday. Which Florida team is going to show up in Atlanta? The one that beat Auburn, Ole Miss, and Texas? Or the one that ran out of the stadium against Missouri and South Carolina? I've been the one that ran out of the stadium against Missouri and South Carolina.

I'm kind of hoping for that. Like, they're a good team. They're improved. They're a good coach. They're doing some good things this year. They ought to be happy with the first year of their new head coach. And so I'm anxious to see what's going to happen. But I'm not surprised I'm going to follow the boy of the offensive coordinator. He was the starter before the injury, and he's healthy now. He ought to be able to retain his shot. So, you know, their receivers are very good.

They've got a good group of receivers. Brown, Wilson, Singleton, Stockton. It's a very, very good group that I think Georgia's going to have to contend with. We'll see what the health status of K.J. Bolden is. The All-American safety, who I think was very well missed in the Auburn game. So, that's going to be something to watch. But, of course, they've got to outrush Florida. They've got to contain Jane Baugh, especially since Jamal Jones is not going to be the starter. It needs to be the focus now to be on Jane Baugh.

And I think they'll win by 80. Or maybe 81. Stay tuned. Bill, your thoughts about an interesting matchup. It's almost like he's facing Georgia Tech last year but wearing a different shirt. In Philo and Buster Faulkner. These two guys know each other. Georgia's defense knows Buster's brain trust. He's pretty doggone good. Your thoughts about that matchup that, again, in this business, I've always said it's kind of like broadcasting. You're going to work with or against everybody staying long enough. Your thoughts about that matchup. Well, he's very well known as the Georgia coaches because, obviously, he was there in Athens before he went to Atlanta with the Yellow Jackets as an offensive coordinator.

[42:09] And so, he's going to know a lot about what Kirby's going to do. He's going to know a lot about what Georgia has done. And even not only while he was there but also as he was, you know, obviously at Georgia as an analyst. So, you know, it's the familiarity there. But, you know, they do enough to change things around a little bit. So, I think it's going to be interesting. No question. It'll be interesting to see how it kind of all plays out. But, I think the Dawgs are, they've had an extra week to kind of prepare and to get past the Auburn situation.

So, I think they're going to be ready to go. I've had several of your legions of fans in this area ask me to ask you about some baseball stuff. I actually enjoy the World Series. I thought it might go a little bit longer. But, wasn't it nice? We talked about this yesterday, too. Two small market teams. William Contreras, and I just cringe. I'm happy for him. 8-21 threw out four runners. MVP of the series. Freddie was a couple years ago. These two teams also proved you don't need to hit 150 home runs to make it to the World Series.

Your thoughts? Well, Contreras was really good. He was the MVP. He had a lot of hits. He was great behind the plate. Freddie's giving him up was a mistake. And, you know, he can't be perfect, so you're going to make mistakes. But I think they didn't believe in his catching ability. They had a coach in particular, Sal Fasano, who did not believe in his catching ability. And he told Alex Anthopoulos. And Alex fired him after he realized he was wrong. Too late. But still, you know, the Brewers were the best team in baseball all year.

They kind of proved it. It's kind of good to have the team that's, you know, pillar to post is the best team in baseball. I think they were. And so now we'll have a freeze-out of the game. Well, no, we're going to have a month. We're going to have through about, you know, Monday or Tuesday through the end of November. And then it'll shut down until they come to an agreement. But there should be a lot of activity in the month of November, which will be a lot of fun to see.

But, you know, the month of October really was dominated by the fact that some smaller market teams were able to do pretty well. And it's kind of interesting. It's taking a page out of Cignetti's book in football. Know what you're doing. Know how to spend money. Evaluate talent and get the most out of it. It ain't complicated. Bill, your thoughts in the offseason, it's about making sure to that end that you make the right decisions. Your thoughts about the Braves exercising the club options on the two A-boys, Acuna and Albies.

Oh, that was procedural. I mean, they were never going to let them go. I mean, they were never going to be allowed to be free agents. So that was procedural. I hope they still trade Acuna. And Ozzy being in his last year, I mean, that's going to be interesting to see, obviously, what's what with that. So, but that was mainly procedural. And hopefully they'll come in their senses and trade Acuna, but I'm not holding my breath. Listen, talk about next week, as you mentioned, free agency begins.

And we've talked about this on Nauseam now for about three years. And particularly, I know it's easier said than done, but picking up durable bad run starting pitchers. And I've had several people ask me this week, ask him. They never use your name. So I just say, I just say him, left fielder, shortstop. But some of the holes in this team, will Anthopoulos be aggressive or more aggressive beginning next week? Well, I hope, I hope he will. Well, I mean, I think that to run it back to the mistake, I think if you're just going to run it back and send it great to a one-year deal for $20,000, you're wasting my time.

Yeah. You really are. I mean, I think that's stupid. And money. And I think that's not enough. And I think they need to do more. I think they need to trade Ronald Acuna. They need to grow a pair and trade Ronald Acuna. Because here's the deal. Here's the question. I mean, my desire to trade Acuna aside, all right, if you're going to want to try to mix it up a little bit, if you feel like, all right, our offense didn't work. Again, it sucked in the playoffs, we've got to make a change.

Who are you going to do? You're not going to trade Riley, even though you may want to. He's got six years left in an option year. You're not going to trade Olsen. He's got three years left plus an option year. And who are you going to get to play first base? He's got one year left on his deal. You don't have a shortstop. You don't have a left field. Then you look at Michael Harris. He just broke out. You're not going to trade Michael Harris. You're not going to trade Drake Baldwin.

You'd love to trade Sean Murphy. Nobody would be able to get that drunk to be able to accept a trade. So if you don't trade Acuna, what are you going to do to mix this up? I mean, forget about wanting to trade Acuna. If you want to mix it up a little bit, what else are you going to try to do? Who else are you going to trade? Answer that question for me. And I just think there's only one answer, and it's Acuna, and he's got two years left.

[47:30] You wait until next year, you're not going to get as much. He's not going to get back to 2023. I mean, it's been four years now, 24, 25, 26. He's been hurt again and again and again and again, and he's not the same player he was in 2023. So you're not going to extend his contract in two years. You need to trade him. I'm going to buy a billboard right outside of the park. Trade this sucker. And it's only Bill Sheen, scan thesuperstations.com. One of the ways to help answer some of the holes in this lineup and make sure that you can afford it.

Bill, you know better than anybody else to answer this question. How strong is the Braves farm system? In other words, who can they call to come up and get a steal and a deal to get respectable numbers out of the kids coming up? Well, they have some talent. I mean, they really do. They have some very good talent that I really like. I don't know how many are going to be ready for 2027. You know, they have a couple of outfielders I really like. Pat Cloystein and AAA, who could contribute in 2027.

They have Owen Carey, Eric Hartman, Conor Esenberg, maybe my favorite. The first two, Hartman and Carey, are going to be back in AA to start next year. So they're close. Esenberg will start in Rome, and he's a little further away. They've got a pretty good number of middle infielders. They've got Alex Lodese, the shortstop from FSU, who was great last year. John Hill, a second baseman, shortstop. They've got Tate South to scene, who's in the Arizona Fall League, doing very well. They've got talent, and they've got some pitchers.

I don't know how – well, Cam Caminiti may be special. He's Cam Caminiti's cousin, and he may be special. I like Cam a lot. He's got great talent. Now, of course, I don't like how they're being developed. I think their development is trash. I think the development of pitchers in Major League Baseball in general and the development of pitchers in Atlanta Braves' organization is trash, and I keep on saying it loud to hope someone with the organization will hear me and say, well, what do you mean?

Well, I mean, I'll give you about an hour and a half, and I'll tell you what you're doing wrong. You're not letting these pitchers develop. You're making wimps out. I mean, the other day, that skinny boy, Mizorowski, I think his great-grandfather, hit a home run in the 1960 World Series, as you probably remember. I mean, he came out after five and two-third in the signing game of the World Series. I know. I know. I'm like, what the h***'s wrong with these people? Let them pitch. Absolutely.

Remember in the bad news fairs and breaking training where they went to the Astrodome, and they let them play, and they went on to, let them play. Let them play. Let them pitch. Let them go out there and pitch. It's nuts, and it pisses me off. December the 1st is the red-letter day, of course, for the strike. Are you more optimistic or pessimistic? I think everybody believes this is going to be one. They just don't know how long. Is this going to last 30 days or six months?

No, it ain't going to last about 30 days. That's for sure. Well, I mean, I keep on saying it's going to be, I mean, I think it's going to be into the spring. It'll be 20, 27 in the spring, and I think they'll miss a paycheck. They'll miss some revenue, and they'll say, oh, you've got to come to some point. But now the owners are dug in their heels, and they're saying, we're going to keep this going until you accept the salary cap, and I don't know what's going to happen.

We may be doing extensive E! True Hollywood stories on the Bumo Bucks show. Absolutely. Which will be a ratings killer. It would be. Pickleball, man. Pickleball. But, you know, I mean, I've already made my contingency plans. We're going to have college baseball and minor league baseball in the Super Bowl. That's smart to do. That's smart. So, you know, because the minor leagues are not impacted. It's just the people on the 40-man roster. But I think it's going to be, the biggest thing is it's going to be, and I hate it that we're not going to have the full offseason.

Look, if the thing hadn't happened four years ago, I think Freddie Freeman would still be a break. Wow. I truly believe that because I think the fact that they, you know, had November, they couldn't come to an agreement in November, and then obviously they went on, they were locked out, they came back, and they had to put their roster together pretty quickly. Well, that cost the brace for Eddie Freeman. If they'd had more time to talk, they may have come to an agreement. So I hate that it's going to impact another offseason more than anything.

I agree with you entirely, and you're right. It's not just the revenue. It's program content in the spring and early summer if this mask doesn't get worked out. Okay, now, if trick-or-treaters come to see you, I know you're probably going to be in Atlanta, but they're dressed in Alabama and Auburn costumes, or you can give them any candy or give them a finger. Well, if any Auburn kid dressed up as an Auburn Tiger's drive-thrued neighborhood, I'm running them down. I'm going to absolutely mow them down, so they better not come in.

[52:50] Oh, my Lord have mercy. You heard it, right? I mean, I'd help you a Dateline BC episode because I'm going to run those. The Macon police may be listening to this right now. Plus, I'll call D-Packs on the stupid parent putting him in an Auburn Tiger jersey. That's what I got awful right there. All right, safe travels to Atlanta. [58:01] Well, I tell you what, I'm going to get a bill and we're going to get into the retail pharmaceutical business and start selling prescription drugs and things like that, since it's a controlled substance, and let's go compete against Walgreens and Super X or whomever in the drug market, in the pharmaceutical market. And that shows the ridiculousness of having our competing out there against mom and pop retailers around the state. And actually, Sean's subsidizing a fair number of stores, state ABC stores, that lose money year after year after year or so.

Still going to be 50-50 in terms of fans, though I would assume more Georgia fans will show up since it's in Atlanta. But this is the last time we saw Georgia on the field. They were losing to Auburn. And Gunnstock then turned it over three times, including a huge fourth-quarter fumble that led to Auburn's game-winning field goal. Georgia still has some concerns. Georgia fans with a running back injury.

[1:03:13] Their best defensive player, K.J. Bolden, is questionable. He hasn't played in a while. He's a big part of their secondary. A secondary that can be exploited at times. The flip side for Florida, they've got to get a good game from Jaden Ball, who's playing 12 miles from where he went to high school in the Atlanta area. And I talked about the Georgia secondary being susceptible at times. Florida's secondary is susceptible throughout. It's a bad group. So, a lot of interesting subplots. I think both teams know if they win out, they're going to be in the college football playoff.

I think that's obviously – I think Georgia's the better team. They are favored by double digits. But I think the spread is a little bit too high. Yeah, I was going to ask you about that, Mike. You look at – obviously, the folks in Vegas, they're sold on Georgia. But the great equalizer sometimes is that T-O word, turnover. You look at Gunnar Stockton three times against Auburn, and Auburn took advantage. But go back before that. Gunnar Stockton and this Georgia team basically put the ball on the carpet four times against Alabama.

The difference, they were able to recover all those. What's going on? That's a total of seven. One time it didn't hurt them. Next time it did. You just can't keep doing it. I call it the Red Cross. You can't just keep backing up and giving them charity. Your thoughts on what's going on from that aspect of what should be a season quarterback? Yeah, I think some of it's not on Stockton, but a lot of it is. The fumble against Auburn where he runs into his center, where he runs into him, depending on how you want to say it.

But, you know, Stockton is not an elite quarterback. But he is upper-tier quarterback. I think Georgia has the quarterback advantage. Florida has the wide receiver and running back advantage. So the offensive line, I think Georgia's is better. But I think Aaron Filo will start tomorrow for Florida. He came. He's from a high school that's about 15 miles from the Georgia campus. So the Florida quarterback and the Florida running back were not Georgia recruiting players. You wonder if there's a chip on the shoulder playing basically at home.

But the biggest difference in the team is the defense. Georgia has a defense, I think, that can be counted upon. And Florida secondary, again, it's not very good. And a couple teams have run the ball effectively on Florida. So this is, you know, it's not the greatest game, but it is the best game of the weekend, which I think is more an indictment of the weekend than anything else. This is not a high-level, I've got to watch every single game weekend. But that means there's going to be some wild stuff going on, because that's the way it always turns out.

But this is the Florida-Georgia game. This is important in the SEC race, and it is important in the college football playoff race. I think everyone assumes, well, yeah, Georgia is going to win. But I think Florida has the potential to do some damage. And Florida is starting three wide receivers. They have not been on the field together since play five of the opener. Wow. So these dudes can make plays. Florida has a better receiving core. So if Philo has time to throw, this could be very interesting.

Mike, another very interesting national game. Ohio State and USC tomorrow night on NBC. The Buckeyes are a seven-and-a-half-point favorite. Freshman Luke Fahey is starting in place with you and saying he's got a shoulder-arm situation. This is a big game for Lincoln Riley. He's 5-15 against top 25 teams in his tenure, and they got dismantled by a much-improved Wisconsin team. USC gained negative 17 yards rushing and scored seven points. The lowest amount of points for a Lincoln Riley team ever. A lot of subplots here, Mike. This is a big game for Lincoln Riley.

Yeah, I think this is sort of a last-stand game for Lincoln Riley. I think if you're a USC fan who still believes in him, if they lose tomorrow to an Ohio State quarterback who, I don't know how good this kid is. He's a three-star freshman recruit from L.A. Mission VA, Ohio, and the L.A. suburbs. You know, Ohio State has to come across the country. It's a very difficult road trip because flying that far, that's problematic for pro teams, much less college teams. Yeah. And you wonder what the Ohio State offense is going to look like without saying.

[1:08:19] Michigan, and I still think Ohio State's going to win because I do not believe in the USC defense. I think that Ohio State will be able to run the ball effectively. You mentioned the fact that Ohio State, I'm sorry, that USC had trouble running on Wisconsin. Ohio State's defense is better. Unless Ohio State's offense is just absolute garbage tomorrow, which I guess it could be, I think Ohio State's going to win. You know, Jeremiah Smith, even if your quarterback is not good, I think you can tell him, hey, Duke, go on the field, look for number four.

And even if he's double-covered, just throw it high, he'll get it. And that's the kind of receiver Jeremiah Smith is. But, yeah, I think that Lincoln Riley, he's owed a ton of money if SC wants to move on from him. But I think after, if they lose tomorrow, I don't see why anybody would have any belief in Lincoln Riley doing anything in the Big Ten. Mike Hogan and college football analysts across the country for football and basketball. Auburn at Ole Miss. Auburn has shown they can beat you, and I don't care what your number is, on the road.

It is against Georgia. They're on the road to Ole Miss. They've been like a box of chocolates this season. It looks like they're going to be down their top running back. Auburn at Ole Miss. Your thoughts on that one, Mike? Yeah, it's a little interesting to me that it's on the SEC network, because I tend to think of SEC network games as a little bit below. On the shelf, yeah. This is interesting. What kind of game does Byron Brown play? That's what George, that's the, he played really good against Georgia.

They won. He did not play good last week. They lost. And he did, you know, he did not run effectively against Florida. They lost. He's got to run the ball against Ole Miss. I think Chambliss is going to have a big day, because I don't think much of the Auburn secondary. But, yeah, and you're right. I mean, the idea, Auburn can't win this game. Well, they won this 21-point underdog in Athens. So, there is that hope. I still think Ole Miss is a better team. I don't think Ole Miss is as productive offensively as people expected, and that's a direct reflection of T'Juan Lacey not playing.

I still think Ole Miss wins. But Byron Brown, if he has the same kind of game running the ball as he did against Georgia, Auburn can pull another upset. I think Ole Miss knows that, though. I think there's – I think that – I don't – you know, I trust Chambliss more than I trust Gunnar Stockton. I think Ole Miss wins. Let me ask you real quick. Arizona and Texas Tech, Noah Fafita has been on absolute fire. Texas Tech has a very good defensive front seven. As everybody knows, I don't think this is as good of a Texas Tech team.

They're ranked number 13. Does Texas Tech win and cover the three-and-a-half? This is fascinating. The idea that they're only favored by three-and-a-half at home. It does. Fafita is really good. If you haven't seen him play, he has a list of them at 5'10". That dude's more like 5'9", maybe 5'8". But he runs around, makes huge plays with his legs and with his arms. He's got a strong arm despite his black thighs. Brent Brennan's a really good coach. If it comes down to coaching, I think Arizona's got the name.

Texas Tech's defense, though, is solid. The offense is just not very good. Texas Tech goes to Cincinnati last week. Their roster costs twice as much as Cincinnati. They lose. Cody Campbell has a social media meltdown. I think a bunch of folks nationally were like, come up and you've got to love this. Arizona certainly, I think, will be the sentimental favorite tomorrow. But, yeah, the fact that it's only a three-and-a-half point spread, I think, shows that Vegas doesn't think all that highly of this Texas Tech team.

Their offense is not as good as last year's. Their defense isn't as good as last year's. If Fafita throws for 300, I think Arizona wins. I think that's the key figure. Let's see what Texas Tech does. Playing in Lubbock. You know, Arizona fans can get there if they want to. That's a fascinating game. It's unfortunate to me that that's an 11 a.m. Yes. That's just ridiculous. At some point, fans have got to show some backbone. We ain't kicking off in the morning anymore. I agree with you entirely.

And you're right. Not the greatest slate. Boy, I tell you one thing, next Saturday is, though. That's one of the best ones we've seen in years. And they had a really good one earlier this year. Hello again, everybody. I'm Roger Hoover. Here are thoughts from Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer from Wednesday's edition of Hey Coach and the Kalen DeBoer show presented by Alpha Insurance. You know, you brought up Rico Scott earlier and just him playing and now at a level where, you know, it isn't just lots here that can go make plays.

[1:18:41] And, you know, hopefully there's an element where Ryan's back. You're just building that, that those guys that, hey, when, when the game's on the line have gone and made plays for you now and had success doing it. And so, again, that's a lot of guys across the board that now at different positions have had to step up in some form or fashion, special teams included. And so, you know, just a confidence that needs to continue to just grow. But that only happens through the hard work, the investment, the execution that happens in practice carrying over to a game.

He's the founder and editor of Shoals Sports Report.

Zach, welcome in. How are you? Doing good. How are y'all? Doing good. The day we dread, Zach. The last Friday of the regular season for high school football. But before we kind of take a sneak peek ahead of what's on top tonight, I would imagine it was a pretty busy Thursday night for you and a lot of folks on the high school grid irons in the area. Yeah, a lot of times playing last night to get a day off before the playoff, the next day off.

And plus the coaches, just something people don't know a whole lot about, all the coaches in the playoffs have to be about going to be at 9 a.m. tomorrow for a meeting with the state. Sure. So, for the coaches, tonight you can kind of go watch every play in the first round or head to Montgomery tonight to get a room to drive at 5 a.m. in the morning to go to Montgomery. I've always been amazed at that. Let's look at some of the games last night.

I believe you covered Lexington and Rodgers. Lexington finishes there in 91. Their only loss, I actually saw, against Colbert County. Colbert County scores with 18 seconds. They beat Rodgers last night 47-21. We've talked about Zane Kilburn all year and then Sawyer Howard. They've had a great, that's a great duo. I believe in the playoffs, Rodgers will travel to Oniana. Rodgers finishes the season 5-5. And Ohatchee will travel to Lexington at 91. Talk about, I think you saw this game last night. Yeah, Lexington at 2-8, 2-8, 2-8, 3-8 last night with the win.

Had Lexington a loss. Then Phil Campbell winning would have made it more count to 9-5, Colbert County. But, Lexington, it was 21-14 in the third quarter. After that, it was a route, basically. They got to 34-14 in the third quarter. And then 47-21 to finish. And it was a route after that third quarter when it was in the score. But, Rodgers couldn't go offensively against Lexington's defense. Both had to battle penalties and just a tough rivalry game. Where I found it, in my article this week, both could be 0-9 in that game.

And if they go 1-9, they're 5. Zach Panthers, the show's sports report. Zach, Florence High fans, including the crew. Kevin Johnson probably got home this morning right before the rooster crowed from the long road trip to Fort Payne. It's worth it. They win. The significance of that is it helps keep the momentum going into the postseason. Your thoughts about Florence winning last night and getting ready to build on that momentum heading into the postseason. Yeah. Florence and most of the show's both last night had a struggle out of the gate.

Florence was down 14-0 to him, 135-14. Most of the show's got down 7 or 10-0 early and went up winning 34-19. But I thought it was kind of a weird night with those two, getting down early. Fort Payne's going to miss the playoffs. Huntsville's going to make the playoffs. But it's a weird game if you play a team not making the playoffs and you're making the playoffs. Everything that plays forward versus nothing that plays forward with pride and joy. Always a weird game. I'd rather play a game where both of us in the playoffs and both of us play forward than both out of the playoffs or once in the playoffs and one's not.

Absolutely. Yeah, I saw that most of the show's game. They pulled away in the second half. In fact, Huntsville scored on the last play of the game. We've talked about Hatton. They finished the regular season undefeated at 10-0. They beat a very good central team, 35-9. Cade Parham was actually out of the game, but what did they do? They run the ball. They ran the ball very well, I believe for over 250 yards. Severius Evans was out, but they kept going. I believe New Hope is going to be coming to Hatton.

[1:24:07] New Hope plays the game tonight. And then Central Florence is going to be hosting Vinemont. Heath Wood has had a great year. Lucas Price, we've talked about it a lot. But congratulations to Hatton finishing the season undefeated. Yeah, Hatton and Central, one of the guys that are both in the playoffs, both reaching champions, like the last 10, basically. Hatton was up in the 35-0 before Central even scored on a safety. And I want to say it was a bad snap for Hatton to help Central score that two-point safety.

But with Hatton, though, coming down to three guys is the best thing for them. And I heard last night on the news, Coach Stover said something about this coming together when they had consolidated R.A. Hubbard in the Hatton, East Lawrence, Lawrence County. So, it's three schools, basically, you're not into one. And they'll look back on it 20, 30 years and remember what they did this year. Zach, obviously, tonight some people are going to be wrapping it up. They're going to put the footballs and the mothballs missing playoffs.

Others getting ready. Talk to us. Who's got the most on the line tonight? Is there a team in our neck of the woods that needs to stamp their ticket tonight to keep the ball rolling? Wilson and Carpenter are the only game on both ends in the playoffs. Tonight, boy, with this game, it's kind of a last test for both. And with this game, it's an interesting spot, too. Carpenter County has not been able to get stopped this all season. Wilson has gotten stopped, but also has had an issue with teams that are historically good in Carpenter and Larder County.

And Central, but Wilson also runs the ball at the best of them. Carpenter County has toured the best of them. Wilson is going to be explosive. Carpenter County can be explosive. But Wilson can get stopped when they need to. And they can also win a game in the 20-17 range. What I'm watching tonight is I want to see if Wilson can win a game, if they can score 20 or 30 points on both sides of the ball, allowing 30 points or 20 points on the defensive side, and win a game like that before playoffs.

This whole season, if they allow over 20, they did not win a game. Wow. Also last night, Launderdale County won their sixth straight, beating Ardmore 42-13. Reed Newton has really got that team rolling. They're going to be hosting, I believe, Hoax Bluff. Hoax Bluff has got a game tonight. But congratulations to Reed Newton taking over for Jeff Mason. They got off to a little bit of a slow start, which any first-time coach is going to do, even though Reed's been around that program for a long time.

But Launderdale County right now, Zach, red hot. Yeah, Launderdale County had a rough start this season. They were 1-3 after four weeks. Yep. But also played Lexington, Brooks, Central, the three losses. That's it. So you couldn't have worse schedule on luck at the start of the season with that either, with two region champions and a playoff team in 4A. So they ended high on schedule on luck, also getting the bottom of the region late in the season to where you can kind of get high late.

And they showed me something to see in playoffs too. Mm-hmm. Absolutely. One more game tonight. Well, there are quite a few games tonight. But there are three more, Waddley at Hacker – well, I'm sorry, Cherokee at Brilliant, Clemens at Sheffield, Cumbert Heights at Marion County. One game that did catch my eye besides Wilson and Cumbert County is Haleville-Hamilton. We talked about Hamilton a good bit. I watched a great game when Dasher beat them 35-13. Mason Holloway's had a great season. Houston-Tibbs. Haleville, Braden Hood ran for nearly 250 yards last week.

Interesting game to end the regular season. Haleville 4-5 at Hamilton 7-2. Yeah, one of those games where Haleville's going to miss the playoffs, the Hammers in the playoffs, but like I said, it was a late center-artist game. They came up with 0-9 and don't care whoever wins. 1-9, hey, great season, whatever. Well, that's one of those games like Hamilton-Winfield every year, you look for it on schedule and you're like, that's going to be a game where both sides hate each other and can't stand each other.

In a good way, obviously. But, I mean, one of those games to watch, I'll say. Zach, before we jump off, obviously, this is going to be an interesting postseason because with all the reclassification that there's been now at the end of the season, how is that going to affect some of the things we're used to seeing when it comes this time of the year, including Florence, including Mars Hill? We can go across the board here. Your thoughts about how the reclassification is going to influence some of the postseason matchups?

Well, I'll start with Mars Hill. Mars Hill is going to play in the private school now, and it's four regions. Basically, the old 7-8 format, when you have four regions, it was north-south. You're going to have that north region playing the, what I call the Tuscaloosa-Gadison region. It's going to go from the Gadsden part of the state to the Tuscaloosa part of the state. It's going to go from Hawthorne, Florence, to Gadsden, even. So, Mars Hill will have, I want to say, Victory Christian, the Peacons Academy first.

[1:29:13] Yeah. And Westbrook Christian has a school over that way, too. But Mars Hill could be two hours south, two hours to the east. Wow. With road trips. But also this, with the private schools last round, their playoffs are only going to be four rounds, four rounds total. So, they'll play the first round on November 6th, second round, November 13th, which is their quarterfinals. Right. The finals will be on the 20th, and they'll have a week and a half off before the state championship game. So, they don't have to play Thanksgiving week anymore.

It's a full week off, like a bye week, basically. Mm-hmm. But it's the old 7A format, and it's north-south, the old old 7A format, before it went to the whole statewide playoffs. And then in the public schools, you're going to get more, especially in 4A, 5A, you're going to get more matchups with the schools that last year were 4A, 5A, or 5A, 6A, even 6A, 7A last year. Like, Dashler is matching up with Central Clay County. But in that half of the bracket, there are schools like Leeds, who's been 4A forever, Brooks has been 4A forever.

Yeah. And some schools that have been 5A, Moody was 5A last year. They're playing with Morgan. Wow. And it's 6A, you're going to have, like, Austin and Florence, who were 7A last year. Russell Schultz, who's been 6A forever. Mitchell and Russell, who's been 5A forever. So, it's going to be one of those, like, competitive aspects of where it's all combined into one. And below 3A, you don't really make an impact as much as it does in the bigger schools. Mm-hmm. There is an aspect of more competitive matchups, possibly, and worse matchups for teams early in the playoffs based on the new classes.

Absolutely. And, by the way, Mars Hill stunned Essler last night, 10-3. I know Bryce Williams is not playing, but that was quite a win by Mars Hill. They intercepted a pass in the end zone to end the game. And also, congratulations to the Central Volleyball team. They won the state championship yesterday. Wow, exactly. Great, great ending for them. Listen, you do a great job. You got all the scores from last night. You have it tonight. You're going to be having the playoff, who's playing who, the tail of the tape, all great stuff.

Where can we get online and get everything? Yeah, we'll have previews this weekend coming out of different playoff games for both sides of who's playing who this week, next week. Quick reminder, watch those clocks this weekend. You gotta fall back before you go to bed tomorrow night. If you're going to make it on time to church, we're starting on Sunday. And speaking of this weekend, not a lot of action out there, but try telling Auburn fans it's not a big one. Justin Ferguson got the Tigers cover there at the Auburn Observer.

Justin, welcome in. How are you? I'm doing all right. How are you? Man, we're doing okay. On the road again. Obviously, this has been that classic season, the first-year coach. Is it safe to say, Justin, this team has proven they can beat anybody, they can lose to anybody. Your thoughts about the season date and what that means heading into this weekend on the road to the land of the Rebels. Yeah, I mean, I think this college football season so far, especially in the SEC, has been very unpredictable.

[1:39:31] And I think you throw that kind of year one-ness in for Auburn, it just makes it more kind of unpredictable. Two weeks ago, you beat Georgia in biggest win you've had in a long time, and you're riding high. And then last week, you never really get close in that game past the early second quarter against LSU, and they take it to you at home. So, you know, it's going to be interesting. I think Auburn has shown, like you said, they're capable of playing a good, clean game and having an opportunity to beat a team like Ole Miss on the road.

But they've got to play a lot better than what they did last week, and it'll be a very interesting matchup because of some of the areas where Ole Miss, I think, can attack them. Talk to us about that, Justin. What was the old song back in the day, riding high in April and shot down in May? A lot of folks still remember that song. It's kind of a song for a lot of college football teams and fans this season, but it's all about matchups. Sometimes you sit here and say you don't have a chance, and then you do, and then vice versa.

Talk to us about this matchup from an X's and O's standpoint. Yeah, the big thing for Auburn, I think, in this one is can they get back to running the ball? They didn't have any success at all running it against LSU after running it pretty solidly against Georgia a week earlier. You know, this Ole Miss defense has given up a decent amount on the ground this year. Texas really ran well, especially in the fourth quarter last week when they were able to beat Ole Miss, hold them off.

You know, Florida ran for over 300 on them, both LSU and Louisville in some really close games. Got some good movement on the ground against this Ole Miss team. So, Auburn's got to get back to that. You know, last week they just never got anything going, and it just was very, very limited there. They've got to be able to find ways to stick to it, find creative ways to get it going, and see if you can move the ball against an Ole Miss defense. It's just, you know, it's more of a middle-of-the-road defense than anything in the SEC this year.

And, you know, there have been teams that have been successful at being able to get it going on the ground. Then on the flip side, it's like you know what you're getting out of Ole Miss when Trinidad Chambliss is a quarterback. He throws it more than anybody in the SEC. There's going to even be more incentive to throw it more on Saturday because Kawhi Lacy's hurt. He's not going to play in that game. They're a star running back. So, you know, I think for Auburn, it's just you've got to be able to do a whole lot different than what you did last week because LSU really just nickel and dimed you all the way down the field.

You know, they hit some big plays, but it wasn't like they were airing it out a ton. Chambliss is really, really good at scrambling to throw. He keeps plays alive. And I think if you just sit back and just try to keep everything in front of you, he's going to find the open man eventually. So I think when you get in this game for Auburn, you look at the numbers, you look at what other teams have done well against Chambliss this season, and he's a really, really good quarterback, you've got to bring pressure.

You've got to blitz. You've got to do creative stuff. This has got to be a game for D.J. Durkin to, you know, throw the kitchen sink at Chambliss and see if you can force some turnovers like you did against Georgia, maybe get them behind the chain, string together some stops. Because if you sit back and just, you know, try to keep everything in front of you, like I said, that Chambliss is the quarterback, I think, in this league that is built to throw it a ton and just kind of pick you apart there.

Auburn's secondary has not been very good this season in coverage, and they've got to be able to do some stuff extra to kind of generate that pressure because, you know, when Chambliss is pressured, when Chambliss is blitzed, you know, it's a lot more of a fair fight, I think, for defenses going against them. That's where I was going. Can Auburn win the turnover battle? They're plus two on the season. Ole Miss is negative one. But they won the Georgia, plus three. And then Ole Miss has given up 161 yards, rushing a game.

You run the ball, control the clock. What are you doing? You're keeping Chambliss standing on the sideline. Jefferson, you know, the whole reason you were able to beat Georgia a couple weeks ago because you were plus three in turnovers. And you go back and look, you know, this last week, Trinidad Chambliss had his first multi-interception game at Ole Miss. And, you know, that's a big reason why, you know, Texas was able to hold on and win that game. You go back to when Ole Miss got blown out at Florida.

They're minus two, I believe, in turnover differential in that game. There have been a couple other games this season where they have had some key turnovers that have allowed other teams to hang in games. I think of the Louisville game. I think of the LSU game, obviously, as well. So, yeah, I mean, that's your battle. And I think Byron Brown has done a really good job here these last couple weeks of not forcing the ball into danger, not putting it in, you know, in the interceptable situations.

He had had a pretty bad interception problem heading into, you know, the last couple weeks. But I think he's done a better job of that. I think if you just take what the defense gives you, keep it rolling, protect the ball, keep that Ole Miss offense on the sidelines, you know, and steal some possessions, that's the blueprint. That's the blueprint for trying to beat Ole Miss on the road. Justin Ferguson, the Auburn Observer, I have a BB here by the name of Brett Beaird. You have a BB there by the name of Byron Brown.

Let's face it, if Auburn is going to come out of Oxford with a win, Brown has got to do against the Rebels what he did against the Dogs. How likely is that? I mean, I like the matchup. I really do. I think when you look at this team on defense, they have been prone to giving up the big play this season. They're towards the bottom nationally and giving up plays of 20 and 30 yards this season. We talked about the run defense being kind of an issue for him.

[1:44:48] Auburn's got to be able to find a way to get him going on the ground and just, you know, just do what he did against Georgia for sure. I think LSU really overwhelmed Auburn at the point of a tag last week. They've got a really talented front, and I think Auburn's front did not play well, you know, on top of that. So I think if Auburn's offensive line, you know, again, don't expect miracles out of this group. They are what they are. But if they play a little bit better in what should be a more favorable matchup, you feel like Byron Brown's got some opportunities.

This is an Ole Miss team that likes to get pressure but doesn't get a ton of sacks. To me, that signal scrambling is a big thing. Sam Levitt was able to get some good yards on the ground against them, you know, a few weeks ago. There's a couple of – I think Arch Manning has two rushing touchdowns last week against Ole Miss, and he had – I remember watching one big third down scramble that he had that was kind of key in the game. So, you know, I think there's going to be some opportunities for him to kind of take off and go with it.

It's what he did really well against Georgia. You've got to go back to that. LSU really keyed in on him last week and, you know, limited a lot of what made him successful. I'm sure Ole Miss is going to try to do some of that, but we'll see if, you know, they have the personnel to be able to do exactly what LSU was able to do. And then on top of that, Auburn's got to be able to find some counters to get him going. Yeah, I think this is actually going to be a higher-scoring game than a lot of people believe it is.

Hey, it's back in the saddle, Brett Beaird, as we always kick in a little trivia here. Today, we're playing for all the fresh air you can breathe at Waterloo if you get it right. Are you ready? Maybe, yes. We've already established that Underdog's girlfriend was Sweet Polly Purebred. I remember Sweet Polly. That's right. The question is, what actress was Sweet Polly Purebred based on, Brett Beaird?

Um, um, um, um, um. No, that's wrong. To save time, I would say I don't remember. Well, that's a cousin of the one and only Marilyn Monroe. Wow. You remember her. Yes, I do. I think you took her to the prom at that one time. Well, I tried, and you know how that ended. Well, let's see if Ric Flair and the gang's ready. Are you ready to do some picking, B-B? I am ready. UNA, uh, four and four Central Arkansas, two and six. UNA's one and a half point favorite.

The Bears have the best rushing offense in the conference, but UNA's got the top rushing defense on the allow, one oh four. Two and six is a little misleading. They've lost to Florida State and Tarleton State, but I think even though UNA's really struggled here in Arkansas, they play well. I've got UNA winning 27-217. Woo! Here's Ric. Uh, Auburn and Ole Miss, pardon me, the Rebels a 13 and a half point favorite. We've talked about this game all week long. Turnovers are a big key. Uh, I think Auburn plays well.

This is going to be a high scoring game. They're going to run the ball since Ole Miss has given up 161 a game, but Chambliss makes some plays at the end. Ole Miss wins 38-28. Woo! Thank you, Ric. And my stupid underdog pick, number 20, Northwestern at Oregon. The Ducks, the Ducks, I can tell from Harold Bugg, I did it again. Three and a half point favorite, Chip Kelly goes back home. The wrong team is favored here. Northwestern upsets Oregon on the road. You're so stupid. Yeah, I know why you broke a line.

You're so stupid. I'm with you. And next time, next time, I'm going to jump over you there. All right, let's get busy here. UNA Central Arkansas. On paper, a tight fight. UNA on the road. I do believe that they've been battle-tested the last two games. I just need to play here and play there to have a better ending. Give it to the Lions this weekend. 31-28 at C. Yeah, baby. All right, Auburn and Ole Miss on the road again. Not Willie Nelson, but the Tigers over at Vaught-Hemingway.

Ole Miss up and down. Who knows what you're getting there. Auburn's proven they can beat the best. Remember, they knocked off, at the time, the number one team in the country, the Georgia Dogs. But Ole Miss playing at home. I know Georgia was home, too. But I believe the Rebs, they know their backs up against the wall. Give it to them 31-24, Rebs. Yeah, baby. And, baby, while you're at it, you picked Oregon and Northwestern. I will say, okay, that was my pick, too. But I will defer and go with the Giant Killers from Orlando.

They did it last week against the boys from Brigham Young. They take on another B team this weekend. Baylor. The Bears are favored, but I got to go. I know it's hard to do it week in, week out. But you see out 25-23. Do you agree? You're so stupid! You're so stupid! It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right? Oh, Lord. Tonight, Harold Wilson at Colbert County. Halival at Hamilton. Scoreboard show tonight on 93.9. The score, James and Blair do a great job of that. Yes, indeed. Tomorrow, Georgia and Florida.

[1:55:36] No Bama, but Georgia and Florida on 93.9. The score. Happy Halloween. And have a fun and safe football weekend. And remember, watch those clocks. Send them back an hour before you go to bed tomorrow night. You may not make it to church on time. The Reverend will get mad at you, so you have been more.
