We want to wish Coach Morrison and the Falcon football team good luck this season. Tonight, we are at Mae Jemison High School. Gorgeous school, gorgeous facility, well-treated here as well. Hospitality, they've hosted four games today in this Veterans Day Classic here on the campus of Mae Jemison High School. Kevin Johnson with you for the Florence Falcons versus Huntsville Panthers game, which is game number three. Earlier today, Buckhorn knocked off Ramsey, Hazel Green just put away Fort Payne, and now the two big boys in Class 7A, Florence and Huntsville, about to get ready to go at it here on this Veterans Day Classic here in 2025.
Just had the opportunity to stand and talk with a gentleman who is one of our veterans who served, Master Sergeant Woods, who is from the Huntsville area in the U.S. Army. Great gentleman, first class, here to watch some grandsons play. It was a joy to get to talk to him and thank him, along with all the other veterans, for their service this day. The Falcons' first game of the season. Several players coming off the football field right onto the basketball court. We'll see how much action they get.
Florence obviously still celebrating last season, but that's put away by Dylan Burleson and his staff, I guarantee. But the Lawrence Falcons had a magical run last year, all the way to the state finals in Class 7A, and nearly upset the dynasty of Hoover, down to the wire on that one in the championship game, but come home with a red map and a state runner-up. Meanwhile, the opponent, Huntsville, coached there by Christian Schweres, who has been there for now eight seasons. He has taken his team to 32 game wins a season last year and the year before.
So he's won 64 and lost five with the Huntsville Panthers in the last two seasons, but he can't quite get over the hump. So he's got another great team. A lot of size, as you would expect, for Huntsville. They are a big team. They are very big on the inside, 6'9", 6'7", great shooters. Florence, not as big this year. Obviously, graduating players like Jalen Chandler, also graduating some others that were just, you know, tremendous players all around that have done a great job. So when you look at Bryant James going to Montevallo and you can go on and on, it's been a lot to replace, but there are some pieces to the puzzle.
And this Falcon team got a good taste of what it was like last season. They had a great summer camp. They've had a great fall camp. And now they're ready to start the 2025-26 season under Coach Dylan Burleson in his third season at Florence. Hard to believe he's starting his third season, but what a job he has done with this program. And hats off to him. And now the name of Florence in high school basketball is known statewide after last year's run. So it's going to be a good one tonight.
[5:20] Both teams warming up here on the May Jemison Court. I'm high atop here right at midcourt, a great crowd on hand. I mean, huge crowd for this day, watching four games, one prize, four games. All the veterans, I think, got in for free. It's just well done. Well, a great classic here in Huntsville. The first time Florence has ever got to be a part of that. We look forward to it. Huntsville, by the way, already 1-0 in the season. They knocked off Bob Jones last Friday night.
So maybe it's Thursday night, but I know they played last week against Bob Jones, so they're 1-0 in the season. Florence's first game of the year. Both teams, they said, warming up. We're getting ready for starting line. It's just around the corner. You're listening to the TNT Fireworks pregame show of Florence Falcons football. We're back in two minutes. The Shoals. 93.9. The score. Welcome back to the TNT Fireworks pregame show. Closing up Florence Falcons basketball. I think I might have said football because I literally have come from Friday night to Tuesday getting ready for a game, so it's a little twist.
You'll hear me say it a couple of times, I'm sure. Congratulations to Kenny Morrison and his Falcons on a great season this year as well. But now it's time to turn it over to Dylan Burleson, and his team as they get ready to match up today against this Huntsville team. Taylor and Jones will get the start for the Florence Falcons. He'll wear number zero along with Jay Sean Payne. Jay Sean Pearson right off. Football into basketball will get the start at point guard. He'll wear number two.
Let's see how many minutes he gets today. Cooper Fulmer will get the start as well. Where's number five? And Jayden Irons. Where's number 13? So Florence will be a little small in their team. Not much size. Matter of fact, Irons at 6'2". Maybe he and Payne are the two start tallest ones, along with Jones at 6'2". Going against the 6'7", 6'9", guys. And now Christian Schweers and his Huntsville Panthers to be introduced here. They're wearing the military green uniforms today, especially just for this day. So they got these uniforms a year ago, I think, and been wearing them for this special day.
And hats off to them. Tyson Bobick will get the start. Where's number one? He is a shooter. He can play it. Cameron Carney will get the start for the Panthers. The biggest score is Hudson Gossett. He averages about 20 a game. A tremendous shooter. He can light it up from outside. Gossett is going to be a handful today. He wears number three. Evan Toms will get the start. He goes at 6'7", I'd say 6'7", on the inside. And the 6'9", post player. We'll get the start as well.
And that's David Harrelson. So Harrelson, Toms, Gossett, Carney, and Bobby. The start for Huntsville. Meanwhile, for Florence, it'll be Jones, Talon Jones, Jason Payne, Jashod Pearson, Cooper Fulmer, and Jaden Irons. For the Falcons, Florence will be the home team wearing all white today. I think they're going to be considered the home team, even though he introduced Huntsville last. Florence will be going left to right. Jones will jump center against the 6'9", post player on the inside, Harrelson, who is a handful. Basketball season for Florence. The 25-26 season is underway.
[10:56] And Florence controls the top. Jashod Payne has it out front. He'll run the point. Over to Pearson. Pearson dribbles into the lane. Back out to Payne. Payne won't take the shot. Man-to-man defense by the Panthers. Lost it off his foot. Goes back to the Panthers. Trying to post up and turn was Payne. It went off the inside instep of his white shoe. Turnover, Florence, and 7-49 to go. No score. And here come the Panthers facing full court pressure by the Falcons. This is one thing Florence will try to do is they will try to turn it over.
They throw it deep. Got to run out if they can. Down the floor to the basket. Laid up. Put in. Carney sort of sneaked out. Nobody saw him. And the Panthers get a quick 2-0 lead. Pearson to run the point. You got to realize Jashod has not played basketball until, well, just a couple of days. Payne's three-pointer. No good rebound taken by the Panthers. They look to run. Pushed off the floor. Gossett kicks it back out to Bobbitt. Bobbitt top of the key. Won't take it to Gossett on the wing.
Picked up by Pearson. Goes inside. Double-teamed to the 6-7 post player. Goes up with a shot and put it in. That is Toms. So he goes 6-7, 6-9. It's going to be tough for LaFlorance. They trail forward to zero early on. Pearson to the right side of the three-point line. He gets the man-to-man pressure. Bobbitt's on him. Jashod keeps his dribble alive. Left-hand dribble now picks it up. Throws it up top to Payne, who has to retrieve it. Jaceon gets it. Free-throw line. Bounce pass to Fullmer.
Deep three in the corner. On the way. Back rim no good. Rebound taken by Huntsville. Bobbitt, the point guard, brings it down the floor. Surveys traffic. Looks to the left. Wants to look to go inside. Picks up the dribble. Can't do it. Now they lob it into the big man. Toms double-teamed. Spins down the baseline. Lost it out of bounds. And that's good defense. Jones was right with him. Forced Toms to go towards the baseline. He lost it off the foot. Turnover Panthers. And Florence will have it now.
Going 94 feet. Travell Lewis will come in. Got to like the name Travell Lewis. His name is spelled T-R-A-V-E-L-L. It would be perfect if they just left one L off with him being a basketball player and called Travel Lewis. I just would have loved it. But his name is Travell and we'll give him the right of that. Florence inbounds it. Pearson double-teamed backcourt. Down the baseline. He gets it. Or sideline. Excuse me. All the way down to Fulmer. Laid it up. Put it in. Great pass from Payne to Fulmer.
And Fulmer has the first points of the season for Florence. 4-2. Panthers with the lead. Panthers frontcourt. Top of the key. Bobbitt picked up by Fulmer. Switched right there by Fulmer. Stays on. Gossett. Now they swing it around. Lewis had it. Goes inside now if they can to Toms. And Toms is fouled on the inside. Too much hand checking going on on the inside. That one will go against Florence. Jaden Irish picks up the foul. He gives up about six inches of height to Toms. Florence stays zoned.
Get it to Gossett. D3 on the way is good. That's what he does. He shoots it as well as anyone in the gym. Ball knocked out of bounds. It'll stay with Florence. 7-2. Huntsville with the early lead. Sort of tell a difference in a team that's got one game under their belt and a team that's just now getting their first game under their belt. Not sure what the official is saying. He's saying let's start it over. Not sure if it's a clock malfunction. Florence is going to invite it.
They'll have to do it again. 6-0-4 to go in the first. Florence trails 7-2. And Huntsville will pick up full court. They're going to reset the clock here a little bit. Not sure what they're going to say here. Looks like Coach Dylan Burleson getting the explanation. Pearson double teamed in back court. Picks up the dribble. Hadn't dribbled yet. Now he's in trouble. And he goes down the sideline. And it's knocked away by Lewis. Stolen away. Bobbick has it up top of the key. Florence goes into defense mode.
Man-to-man pressure. Bobbick cross court to Lewis. Goes into the lane. No look past it. Toms goes up. Lay it up. That was Harrelson to put it in. And timeout taken by Dylan Burleson. As Huntsville leaps out to a 9-2 lead. 5-44 to go in the first. This is Falcon Basketball. We're back in 30. Hi. I'm Dr. Brady Citizen with Treehouse Children's Dentistry. We're so excited to see you soon at Treehouse Children's Dentistry, a branch of Singing River Dentistry. Back here at May Jimmison High School where Florence and Huntsville are playing. Florence trails at 9-2. They actually got the score wrong on the scoreboard.
[15:57] I just have Florence with one bucket. So it's 9-2. Right now they've got it 9-4. Full court pressure. Florence breaks it front court. Have it there with Skipworth in the game now. Skipworth gets it back out to Pearson. Pearson gets the man-to-man pressure. Payne into the corner. Jones spins. Double team. Back out to Pearson. Jay Shaw gets called for steps. And you're going to see that a little bit out of Pearson and some of these football players still getting their basketball legs under him. And I think Dylan Burleson knows that as well.
He knew scheduling this game that it would be a tough one. Near back court. Harrelson now kicks it over to the side. Gossett's open for a deep three on the way. No good. Great box out by Irons. He just literally drove the defender behind him out. Here comes Florence with it. Pearson. Floater. Teardrop up. Bouncing. Would not go. Rebound taken by the Panthers. They look to run. Lewis front court. Gets rid of it to Harrelson. Into the lane. Goes up. Put it up to the left hand.
Put it in. Right now, you can tell one team's played a little bit here in the past couple weeks and one team's still getting their legs under them. 11-2. Deep three by Payne. That one rolls in. That's a good shot. Give him three on that one. Florence needed that. He'll cut the lead at 11-5. 4-40 to go here in the first quarter. Gossett. Right wing. Into the corner. Toms is going to drive in the lane. Looks. Tried to lob it over to Harrelson. Goed up. Put it in.
Right now, no answer for the 6-9 Harrelson. He has six of the Panthers' 13. And Florence is down 13-4. It should be 13-5. I think they took that point away and said it was not a three, but a two for Payne. Payne. Into the lane. Put it up with the left hand. That one wouldn't go. Rebound inside. Fall forward by Irons. Knocked out of bounds by the Panthers. Jayden Irons will rebound. I can tell you that. He's small, but he's strong. Into the game for Florence. Jayden White will check into the game.
And I'll have to pick up the other one here. I see Payne out there. Also, Cage Roy in the game. And I think Dylan Burstall said, hey, you owe us a point. That's what he may be asking. And it's 13-4. Seeing if that was not a three. So, with Florence, we're inbounded now. You've got to realize the scorekeepers have kept two games already. And it gets a little confusing. I understand. And a whistle before away from the action. And I think it may be a clock operator or maybe the three-pointers is what they're asking about.
That's what Dylan Burstall wanted to know. Let's see if they give him the point. They do. Dylan Burstall don't miss much. For that staff over there, he's got Corey Hughes, Mark Johnson, Ben Mullins. They've been around the horn. And for the long run that they made to the championship game last year, this young coach and his staff just gained a lot more credibility than ever. Not that they didn't have it, but they really gained some credibility. Nearly had a five-second count. But Florence gets it into Roy.
Now Payne for three. Short. No good. Rebound. Chased down by Lewis of Huntsville. The Panthers look to run in their military green camo outfits. Top of the key. Gossett's three. Will not go. Rebound though. Yanked down by the Panthers. They get a second chance. Swinging it back up top. Looking around. Gossett thought about it. Wouldn't take it there. Gossett to Lewis. Lewis back to Gossett. Now on the wing is Chapman into the game. They go inside to Tom's. He's double-teamed. Good defense there by Irons. But he turns back the other way and put it in.
Did everything he could. But Tom's has two. Right now, ten points in the post. Right at the basket for the big man for Huntsville. And that's the difference in the game. Fifteen to five. Payne drives to the basket. Left hand layup. Good. Jaceon's going to be a problem for some people before it's over with. Nice job with the left hand. 3.13 to go. Good rhythm of the game right now. Gossett's three. No good. Rebound taken by Florence. It's Payne. Payne's double-teamed. Splits through it. Dribbles through it.
Looks a run. Gets it up the floor. Got it to White. White got it. Too lane. White goes hard to the basket. Lay it up. Too strong. No good. The big man just coming off the football. You can tell that was a little knock in his wheelhouse there. Inside. Tom's goes to the basket. Missed the layup. Rebound taken by Roy. Florence. Pace picking up a little bit. Payne will slow it down to the right wing. Gets the high screen from White. Does the two-man game. Into the lane.
Kicked it over the corner. Thought about the three. Jones got a step. Put a high archer shot up in the end. Beautiful job by Taylor and Jones right there. And all of a sudden, Florence sneaking around the chicken house here a little bit. I've got the lead down to six. 15 to nine with 2.30 to go here in the first quarter. Gossett up top to the left side. Lewis has it. Cross-court pass in the corner. Can't get the three shot off. Swinging around again. Good ball movement. And the one that won't shoot it will.
[21:01] Now it's Gossett. Open three. Won't go. Rebound knows long. And it goes. And stolen away. Taken away by Florence. Jones has. Oh, excuse me. Run out laid up and good. That is a great run out by Jones there. So, Florence actually has Skipworth on the basket. Getting the credit there. Florence trims the lead down to four. Huntsville, right wing. Getting inside of Tom's. Trying to go against White. Good double underneath. And it knocked away. That's good defense by Florence. Skipworth come down from the top. Doubled up underneath.
Knocked it away. And now multiple substitutions like a hockey match. Please help me. There's a lot of new faces in here for Florence. And for this camouflaged team of Huntsville. He's got the green uniforms. That's not their colors. Their colors are red, white, and blue. But on Veterans Day, they have these special military uniforms. Got the yellow look on the numbers. It looks good. Trust me. I can see the numbers. But it'll be tough to get everybody's name in for a few minutes. Huntsville's basketball. Fulmer back in the game for Florence playing defense.
They wanted to lob it. Kent, this Huntsville. They kick it up top. Into the corner. Panthers look against the defense. And Florence goes zone. That's an NBA three on the way. No good. Rebound chased down by Roy. Florence gets it to Pearson. Who looks to push it up the left sideline? Cross court pass. Got it to Fulmer. Fulmer won't make it there. Back to Pearson. Now going baseline. Double team. Back out to Fulmer. Boy, the Panthers did a good job right there. Suffocating Florence. Now Fulmer picks up the dribble.
Gets it to Roy in the paint. Back out to Fulmer. Fulmer drives baseline. He's pushed. No call. Fulmer goes up. Put it up. Wouldn't go. Rebound knocked out of bounds. The last touch by the Panthers. It'll stay with Florence. Jaden White with his big body in there. He's not 6'9", but he's six foot wide. That's a big boy. Only a sophomore. He's pushing around the Huntsville big man a little bit. Florence has to go all the way up top to Roy. Pearson gets it to him.
And Roy hands it back out to Pearson. Cage Roy playing good minutes. Pearson driving in the lane. Floater. Teardrop. Good. He's fouled. Count it. And he shrugs the shoulders and says, thank you, Coach Sledge. That was a weight room basket right there. And Florence has come back to trim this lead to 2, 15 to 13, and a chance to cut it to 1. Well, well. Here come the Falcons in this first quarter. Free throw. Got it. So, what was a 10-point lead is now a 1-point lead with 1.06 to go.
Florence picks up full court. Roy stays with this man. That's Chapman who has it. Excuse me. That's Fulmer on Chapman now. Triple handoff. Now they get it into Hill. Fernandez Hill in the game. Hands it off to Carney. Carney tried to drive. Cut off there by the Falcons to go man-to-man. Into the lane. Good help on the defense. Layup put up. Still good. Florence looks for a run-out, though, on the other side. Irons chasing it down. Saved it inbounds. He hits the basket. Ball goes out of bounds.
And last touch by Huntsville. Incredible movement there. That last basket, I'm going to give it to Carney. Couldn't tell for sure. But as soon as it went through the basket, Irons was running. Pearson threw a baseball pass. It was over his head. He went to save it inbounds. And he threw it back to the sideline. And two Huntsville players thought they had touched it. And they chased it out of bounds and knocked it out of bounds. So, Florence will have it down 17-14. Fulmer will come out of the game.
Payne's back in along with Roy, Irons, and White. Pearson to inbound. Gets it to Jayceon, who gets it back to Pearson. Pearson, oh, he had White. Didn't get to him. But he's got Payne. He'll drive. Nope. Going to pull it back out. Florence may play for the last shot. Look at the veteran team. I mean, this is a team that's being around a little bit here. Irons, double team. Bounce pass. Got it to White. Got a shot. Blocked out of bounds. That's okay, though. Great bounce pass from Irons to White.
Florence will still have it with 19 seconds to go. No shot clock in this game. You remember there is a shot clock lit up, and that's going to be new in state of Alabama in the future. And you'll see it in some games even this year, I believe. Not in region games, I don't believe, but we'll double check that. Pearson inbounded underneath the basket. Having a little time and throws it all the way back to a backcourt. Payne will catch it and bring it up the floor.
With 13 on the clock. Down by three here in the first quarter. Jayceon goes into the lane. Jayceon to the basket. Knocked away. Kicked it in the corner. Three on the way. Too strong. No good. Rebound by Irons. He has it. Kicked it back out to Roy. He goes up with it. Missed, but he was fouled. At the buzzer, Roy will shoot two for Florence. A chance to cut it to two or even one. They will not put time on the clock, I don't believe. That's the question now.
They may put .3 on the clock. That's what they normally do now. Cage Roy will shoot two. And look at the smart move by Dylan Burleson. There's .3 on the clock. What's he going to do? He's going to get one of his big guys out of the game. Give him a chance to get a little extra breather. No fouls here. Before Roy's free throw, no good. Is he going to pull out? Yep. That's White. White will come out. Skipworth will come in. I just love the play. There's Jayden White.
[26:10] He's played defensive tackle in football for about 14 weeks now. And now more substitutions again if Florence makes his free throw. And Roy does make one or two. Now Fulmer will come in. I just love it. Getting some guys a little extra breather. Making sure nobody gets a foul here with .3 on the clock. So Roy goes one of two. And they throw the baseball pass the other way. Try to get it up. It will go in, but it won't count. As Tom's caught it, but he's not Christian Leighton.
And that's the end of one. Florence in a good one. Huntsville leads it. 17-15. This is Falcon basketball. We're back in 30. Have you ever seen those halftime scholarships where you have to nail a 40-yard field goal? Yeah, this isn't that. I didn't have to write a long essay or audition or make a half-court shot. I just had to open a bank independent account, use my debit card, sign up for online banking, and have a positive balance. That's it. A 20% scholarship to UNA. When bank independent invests in students like me, they're investing in all of us and the future of our community.
Bank independent. We're invested in your future. Member FDIC. Back in Huntsville, Alabama, on the campus of Mae Jemison High School, on this Veterans Day special, Florence Trails Huntsville High School, 17-15. Two teams that, well, were both in the Elite Eight. Matter of fact, Hoover knocked off Huntsville in the road to the Final Four in the Elite Eight. And then Hoover knocked off Florence in the state championship game. It was interesting. Most people all said across the state last year, oh, it was Huntsville and Hoover for the state championship in the Elite Eight.
But by the end of the championship game at the BJCC last year, everybody in that arena left there saying, we're sorry, Florence, we apologize. You deserve to be in the Final Two, and they did, falling just short in the last few seconds to Hoover. But right now, these two teams that are pretty good Giants in 7A basketball are having a good one. Florence Trails up by two, 17-15. Falcons have Payne Fullmer on the floor. Skipworth, I think, is out there now. Pearson's still out there. Along with, we'll catch who else is in there.
Also is Jones. Top of the key against the 2-3 zone. Go down to the baseline. Now they go inside, and Harrelson got away with a walk. He got away with a bad walk, but he gets the basket. So the big man's starting to really own it on the inside. Florence down to the other side of the floor. Takes it up. Says, let's pull it back out. Payne is here. They're not going to call a lot of push fouls. It's going to be a physical game. Deep three from the corner up.
No good. That wouldn't call for Jones and rebound taken by the Panthers. I talked to Dylan Burleson some about this team. He really thinks this team, before the end of the year, can be one of the better shooting teams as a whole. And that's impressive. Gossett, two-man game, gets it in. To Tom, he is fouled. He'll go to the line and shoot two. It was actually Bobbitt who got it to him. So the big man comes from outside after Bobbitt gets inside, and he trails him.
He flips it back to him, and the foul will be against Florence. I'm not sure exactly who they call it on. The scoreboard here doesn't give us the player fouls' names, so I apologize for that. And I didn't pick up the number. But the free throw is good by Toms. Six-foot-seven, he has five points. Six-foot-nine, Harrelson, has eight points. And that's the difference in the game right now is Huntsville leads it by five. Second free throw coming from number five. That one's good as well. Got a good-looking shot, can't lie.
He has six on the day. Here's the four-court pressure. Pearson in backcourt says, let me have it. Bobbitt's on him. Bobbitt loses his ankles, his shoestrings, and everything else, because there goes Pearson. To the right side, he gets it to Payne. Payne gets the screen from Pearson. Back to Pearson on the wing. J-Shot very careful about his shot right now, because he knows he hasn't been on the court in a while. Goes to the right side, looks up top. Such a smart player. The Jones back to Payne for three.
That one wouldn't go. Rebound tipped around, but it goes to a Huntsville player. Bobbitt, the point guard, will walk it up the left sideline. Good defense there, forcing to go left. He wanted to come back right, couldn't do it, has to spin around and set it up. Nice defense there by Payne. High low, they try to get to Harrelson inside of Toms. Can't do it. Good defense by Florence. Bobbitt has it, top of the key. Good switch by Florence on the defense. Now Fulmer has to chase down a guy in the corner.
Knocked away. They're going to call a reach and foul. Maybe Holden on the inside. Harrelson and Toms are a handful right now for this Falcon team who are going to have to really battle to try to keep them off the blocks. Irons will come back in the game. Fulmer will come out. Underneath the basket, they'll inbound it. Won't the lob, can't do it. Now they're having trouble. Now they've got to get it in to Harrelson. He's double team, triple team, what do they call it? Traveling.
[31:10] Give that all to the pressure of Florence. It came with the double team. A great job by Skipworth coming down there. Tamari and Skipworth says, I will take that. And now a foul in backcourt against Huntsville. As they push down Pearson. 21-15, Huntsville leads it with 16 to go in the half. Lewis will check back in the game, taking the place of Bobbick. It's the second team foul on, well, it should be the second team. Two team fouls on Florence, one on Huntsville here in the quarter.
Four-man core pressure. Florence gets it into Pearson. Has Carney on him on the left sideline. He gets it across the midcourt strike. Gets the screen from Jones. Keeps the dribble alive into the corner. Deep three on the way. That one would not go. Rebound taken by the 6'9 post player, Harrelson, who are bringing it up the floor. Pushes it up the floor. Knocked away, but it goes right to a player from Huntsville. Right back inside to Lewis who laid it in. That's tough luck for Florence there.
Got their hands on it twice, but it ended up going right to Lewis who put it in there. Florence in backcourt. Finally get it across the midcourt strike. And then the foul is finally called against Huntsville, who pushed on Skipworth. My apologies, by the way. I said it was a loser. It was Fernandez Hill. Hill who got the basket. I'm still in my early traveling stages here with basketball. 23-15, Huntsville leads it with 5.32 to go. Jaden White will come in. He'll take the place of J-Shot Payne.
Got to realize, J-Shot is as good an athlete as he is. It's hard to come off football and give you, you know, 32 minutes or whatever. He'll get a rest. He'll be joined in there by Roy Payne to inbound it. And before the, going to reset something, I'm not sure. Official set up, let's redo it again. Eight-point lead for Huntsville with Florence with the basketball. Florence gets it in to Jones. Back to Payne. Payne now cross-court pass in the corner. Back to Payne. Had to look. Can't get it there.
Keeps the dribble alive. Roy on top. Back to Payne. Dacian, look, double-team, got it to Roy in the corner. Wouldn't pull the trigger that time. Good switch there by Huntsville. They stay on him. Payne drives baseline. Great job. Got it over to White. Locked shot. It's blocked. Ball knocked to a bounce. Last touch by Jones. He had to knock it out for Florence. And he'll go back to Huntsville, who leads it by eight with 5.08 to go and a chance to go up double digits. That was everything right except you had a 6-9 post player to knock it away.
And I think Bobbik will have to come out. He'll have to wait because he didn't have his shirt to lay in. Now they're going to let him come in. So, Florence will have Payne Pearson on the floor. Jayshod had all of 30 seconds of a breather. Iron's out there. White and Roy. Down by eight. Dylan Burleson wants to keep this in single digits in the first half if he can. Bringing up the floor now is Lewis. Gets it to Gossett. Back to Lewis. Irons is on him up top.
Now they get it around to Carney. Now into Bobbik. Wants to go inside. Good job on the inside by White on defense. He's having to really work. Guard against Tom. Back up top. Lewis nearly lost it. Ball loose on the floor. Look at the fight there by Irons. Irons went down there and got it like a fumble recover. Jump ball possession era. You don't want to take it away from the middle linebacker, but Florence got the time out. We'll do the same. 4.43 to go. Florence trails it by eight.
This is Falcon Basketball. We're back in 30. Flavor is calling at Lost Pizza Company Shoals. Introducing the new limited time only Margarita Pizza. Back here at Mae Jemison High School in this Veterans Day Classic, Florence trails Huntsville. 23-15 with 4.43 to go. I know Florence graduated last year six seniors off that team that went to the state championship game. But early on, I'm impressed with what I see. This team is playing with confidence, even though they're down eight, against a really large Huntsville team. Man-to-man pressure by Huntsville. Pearson sets the play up, keeps the dribble alive, goes left, left-hand pass, gets it back now on the wing, wants to get it to Payne.
[36:10] Payne guarded by Lewis, swings it to Roy. Roy dribble handoff, got it to Payne. Payne now goes left, pulls up 15-footer, woodlock, go at two and around the rim. Rebound tipped out, and it goes right to Huntsville. They want to run down the floor. Look at White get back and help it out on defense. Deep three by Goss. Gossett's good. Caught it in transition. Jayside knew as soon as he caught it, you can't let him have it. And the lead goes back up to double digits.
26-15, 11-point lead with four minutes to go here in this first half. Payne for Florence. What a move. Now he kicks it back out to Pearson. He'll try the three. That one, front rim, no good. Rebound taken by Toms. Toms gets rid of it to Gossett. He had a pick pocket right there. Pearson almost took it away from him, but he'll go back to the Panthers. It was good to see Jamarian Reader, a former Florence Falcon, now at Calhoun. He came up specifically just to say hi, great kid.
It was a great day for basketball. A lot of fans here from a lot of schools. Still one game to be played later today. 26-15, Huntsville with an 11-point lead. 3.38 to go. Bob it inside to Harrelson. Kicks it back out top. Thought about the three. Wouldn't take it. Drives to the basket. And they're going to bail out Gruber. Luke Gruber was driving. He didn't know what to do with it midair. And the Florence player bumped him, and they called it on that one. He was passing the ball.
So why is he shooting? He was passing the ball. He never shot it. I'd be arguing that, but Dylan Burleson says, oh my. Free throw on the way. Good. It went all around the rim. Hit the back of the rim. Goes in. 27-15. Carney will check back in. Christian Schweres. He's going to play a lot of players. Second free throw coming from number 10 for Huntsville. No good on that one. Rebound yanked down by Florence. Good job of holding out there. They put pressure right off the bat.
Florence handling the pressure well so far. Good job there by Joan. I'll shoot me. Skip work. And they call 10 seconds. They call 10 seconds because they do. Why do they run a shot clock if there's not a shot clock being used? I didn't think they were using a shot clock today. Maybe they are. Maybe both teams agree to it. I haven't seen it work the whole time. All of a sudden, it works, and they get to see. And it's 10 seconds. No doubt about it. The shot clock went down to 24 with 3.14 to go.
A turnover for Florence. So Florence can't catch or break on a couple things here. Driving baseline. Stolen away. Beautiful job there. Payne read the pass there. Down the floor. Pearson. What a catch. Pearson. Floater in the lane. Good. Oh, my goodness. Jay shot over the 6-7 or 6-9 post player. Harrelson floats at teardrop. Lead cut down to 7. Or 10. 10, excuse me. 27-17. And they are running the shot clock. So I guess that was agreed upon. 35-second shot clock. Toms. Top of the key. Guarded by Irons. Irons did a good switch there.
They double-teamed Toms. Harrelson has it up top. He wants to get rid of it. And a whistle down low. They're going to call Irons. To the hold. It's Harrelson and Irons bodied up against each other. That will be the fourth team foul against Florence in the quarter. Great crowd on hand. Huntsville's got a lot of students. I say a lot. They've got a decent student crowd here. Irons will come out. And first time in the game for Florence, J.B. and Lewis will come in. They lob in.
Shot up. Tipped it in. Good. That's to Toms. So Toms gets the play where they sit. A screen for the big man. And he goes up and lobs it behind the other big man. Lead at 12 for the Panthers with 2.24 to go. Pearson on the wing. Between the legs dribbled. Double-teamed. Now he's got it. Man kicks it back off the former. Driving in the lane. He puts up the teardrop. No, won't fall. Rebound taken by the Panthers. Panthers look to push it up the floor. Good job by the Falcons getting back there.
Swinging around. Bobbitt didn't want it there. Gets it to Harrelson. He goes baseline. Got a step. Goes up. And he gets the foul. And he puts it in. That's an athletic play by a 6'9 post player there. And he's a little slow getting up. He took a hard fall there. And he's still a little gimpy. He really hit the floor hard with his back. And he really didn't look like he had to. But he's going to come out of the game. So, someone else is going to have to shoot the free throw.
With two minutes to go in a 30-17 game. Not sure who they called the foul on. Again, it's hard for me to catch the foul calls. Harrelson has 10. Toms has 8. And those 18 of the 30 are all from the big post players who are 6'7 and 6'9. And that's the difference in the game. And Sunsville leads it by 13. Checking into the game to shoot the free throws will be Chapman. So, you go from a post player at 6'9, letting Chapman shoot the free throws. I know in college, I think the opposing coach gets to choose who they put in there.
[41:39] While Chapman knocks it down. I don't know the shooting free throws percentage, but I'd say it's about 100%. So, Florence in a hole right now. Down by 14. The largest lead of the day for the Panthers. Payne has it in back court. The double team comes from Lewis. Payne dribbles by one. Left hand pass to Roy up the floor. Gets it to Pearson's hands. Pearson, three on the way. Was fouled. And he'll shoot three. If they give him two, I'm going to be mad. That should be three free throws.
It is three free throws for Pearson. Chase Todd's first. Wouldn't go. Again, can't blame the youngster here. He is. He and a couple other guys who are coming straight off the football field. It'll come. That shot will come. I'm encouraged what I see. Down to 15, but it's still very encouraged against this Huntsville team. Second free throw, got one of two. 32 to 18, Huntsville with the lead. The story of the game is the paint points. Pearson. Missed two of three. Rebound by Toms, the 6'7 post player. They get it up the floor.
Lewis picks up the dribble. Swings it back around to the left. He gets it back now. Up top. Lewis looking. Swings it to Bobbick on the right wing. Picked up by Pearson. Gets the screen. What a switch right there. Beautiful job of communicating by Florence defense. Double teaming inside. They can't throw it in there. Knocked away and stolen away by Lewis. That's tremendous defense by this Florence team. They're going to be fun to watch on the defensive end. Payne, front court corner. Couldn't get the shot off.
Hand it back to Pearson. Pearson back to Payne. Payne thought about it. Wouldn't pull the trigger. Roy has it back to Payne. Right wing. Lewis has it. Hands it off to Payne. Payne gets the screen. Bounce passing side to Lewis. Put it up. Wouldn't go. Got his own rebound. Put it up. That one goes in. Javion Lewis. Gets two. Lawrence trims the lead to 12. Full court pass by the Panthers. Swing it back around. Lawrence has been held to five points here in this quarter. That's a big part of it, too.
Couldn't find the shots to go. Bobic has it with 45 seconds to go. Goes baseline. Kicks it back out. And ball was knocked away by Payne. But it goes right to a Panther player. Falcons getting their hands on a lot of passes right now. Bobic up top. Takes a D3. Gossett's good. Gossett just doesn't miss much. He has unlimited range. And maybe a turnover against Florence and a foul on Florence. Pearson got called with the offensive foul. Pushing it off when he was double-teamed. So, down by 15 with 24 seconds to go.
And Panthers will have it one more time. Christian Schweres says, you know, my player that got hurt of him to go, he's going to put him back in the game. D3 on the way immediately, though. No good. Rebound. Yanked down by Pearson. J-Shot said, give me that basketball. J-Shot being hounded. Knocked down. And he'll go to the free throw line to shoot two. I think that was a Gossett that got him. Down by 15. 15.9 on the clock. And Pearson will go to the free throw line. It was 1-3 on the last time.
He'll shoot two here. At the half, be joined by Athletic Director, Coach Byron Graham, in the house over here to my left. Didn't realize he sneaked in on me on the side. I didn't see. Glad to have him up here as our guest. Great crowd on hand. This is a great opportunity for Florence to open the season in a great venue. What a beautiful facility here. If you're older like me, you remember it as Johnson High School, now named after Mae Jemison, the great astronaut. The Jaguars have an incredible campus, beautiful campus here on Pulaski Pike.
Pearson's first free throw. Got that one to go. Only the sixth point of this quarter for Florence. Dylan Burleson subbing in and out his team right now. All he can, give them breathers. Down a 14. Trust me, Florence was down 10 earlier and cut it to one. That one in and out no good. A rebound taken by Harrelson. Roy stays with him. Stolen away. Taken away. Payne laid it up. Put it in. Beautiful play by Payne with seven seconds to go. Harrelson tries to get in bounds. Payne almost got another steal.
Down the sideline they go. They have a chance. They lob it up at the other side. Thomas looks at the end of the lob. At the buzzer. And at the end of one half, Florence trails Huntsville 37 to 23. Welcome back to the TNT Fireworks Halftime Show of Florence Basketball where Florence trails Huntsville 37-23. Kevin Johnson, glad to be with you. Joined in by the athletic director of Florence High School, Coach Byron Graham. And Coach, basketball season is up on us. And, you know, we'd have to say at least take one more peek back. It was really nice last year. And you can tell that's why you're in a tournament like today. Right. Well, and that's just a testament to Coach Burleson. You know, I walked in the gym and I thought, wow, you open your season up with Huntsville High.
That's a great test of team, you know, right out of the gate. But, I mean, our guys look well. I mean, they're playing well. They're just fresh off the football field, a lot of them. But they don't have football legs. They can tell they've had a lot of practice the past couple days. Yeah, I think it's well put. As a basketball coach, you know more about it than I do. You understand that. That's exactly right. And a team that maybe had a game under their belt like Huntsville already won a game under their belt.
That makes a factor, too, when you're the first game out and everything. But let's talk about this basketball program, where it's going to its new levels. It's really impressive for 7-8 to be the smallest school in 7-8. Yes, well, that's a testament to Coach Burleson and Coach Woods. If you watch what they do with their kids in the offseason, how they build relationships with kids and the things they do, just the commitment that they have with their staff and everybody, it's great to see. So, I mean, the fruit's going to be in their labor.
That they put in. So, I mean, I think both of them have great seasons. Our girls are playing. We're playing today at 2 o'clock. And Wallace, I don't know how they've done yet. Nobody's informed me. But I'm pretty sure they did well because Coach Woods is doing a great job. All right, we're waiting on the text message. Someone let us know. We'll try to report that as well as we speak with Coach Byron Graham, the AD at Florence High School. Coach, football season just ends. What a season.
What a journey. But what a neat journey. I'm really proud to assume I know you are, too. It was, and it's a testament to Coach Morrison. I mean, he's done a great job. A lot of people probably count us out early on in the season. But, you know, he kept saying if they'll buy in, we'll have something special. And at the end of the season, to hear him tell those guys at the end, y'all bought in. And that's why we're able to get something special. He gave a lot of credit to the senior class, which they deserve.
And that's, I mean, it was just a great thing for them. Coach, you may have one of the top cross-country runners coming up in the state of Alabama in 7A. Youngster's pretty good. Talk about it. Charlie. Charlie's special. Like, you know, you walk into a cross-country meet. You know, I always tell people, they're kind of like hunting dogs. They run into the woods. They come back out. But he always comes out first. So it's a good thing to watch him do that. And he's just so laid back about it.
He doesn't even, I mean, it's like he just runs and it doesn't even phase him. But he's always way out in front of people. And for him to finish, I think, second or third in the state the other day, that's humongous for us, for our school. That says a whole lot. So all the schools, all the teams that have been playing have had great seasons. Now you're starting to turn to the winter sports, I call it, and even spring sports around the corner. Are you pleased with where you see everything going?
Because you've made some great hires across the board. It's a lot of fun to see what's going on at Florence High School. Very excited. We've got our wrestling program. It's going to kick off pretty soon. Coach Landers, we know we're very happy that Coach Bryder was able to get a principal job at Decatur High School. So we're excited about that. Coach Buckhaugh has already got an indoor track rolling and running pretty good. And I want to go ahead and put this out there now. We just made a declaration the other day because we may be bringing flag football in in the fall next year for our girls.
[52:14] Wow. It's been on the horizon, so we've looked into it. We're on step one, but we'll try to get it there. How about that flag football coming to Florence High School? You heard it right here first on 93.9 The Store. We speak with Athletic Director Byron Graham and Coach. This Falcon basketball team that you see, I know it's early on, but it's not the same as last year. We know that. But there's a lot of fun pieces there and pretty good veteran coaching staff over there, too.
Very good veteran coaching staff. And what I like to see is we've got a lot of meat out there, a lot of football guys that's not afraid to put their body on people, and that's going to make up for lack of size. So when you've got people knocking people out of the way, sometimes tall people don't like to be touched in this sport. So when you move them out of that lane and get them away from the basket and make them shoot the shots, they don't want you always got a chance.
And as long as Dylan Burleson standing on that sideline, we've got a chance every time we throw the ball up in the air. I agree with that statement completely. One last thing, at Brawley Stadium, new facility being going up. You start to see it more and more. That is a big step in the future of Florence High School. Very excited about it. It's going to be so great for our kids at the middle school level, number one. But then, on top of that, giving our varsity team a true home on Friday nights when they play over there.
It's going to be really good for us. And just to add a very good eyepiece in that north, I'm sorry, that south end zone of that stadium for the first time in a long, long time. Hey, one more thing. I'm going to throw one more. How about the Florence community coming out and supporting the Florence football team in the last week going into the playoffs? All that they did behind the scenes, that says a lot when they said, hey, we want to give our kids the best.
And they really did step up. They really did. I've been so proud of people, man. I mean, we took our team down first class all the way to Mobile. We were able to feed them a first class meal and put them in a first class hotel. That's the way you do things. You do it the right way and treat your kids right, and you'll never go wrong. Coach, appreciate it, okay? Thank you very much. The Athletic Director of Florence High School. We're at the half of the Team 2 Fireworks Halftime Show.

Back at Mae Jemison High School where Florence and Huntsville are playing on this Veterans Day Classic.
Happy Veterans Day to all our veterans. Kevin Johnson, glad to bring you tonight's broadcast. I've been in Huntsville all day. We're at the Alabama Baptist State Convention with a bunch of pastors, and now come do a little basketball at the end of the night. Where Florence trails a great Huntsville team by 14-37-23. The Falcons lead in scoring by Jason Payne with seven. Make it six unofficial, and this is unofficial. I may have missed a couple of these. I had Pearson with nine, but I might actually be Payne with nine.
So either way, they're the two leading scorers, Payne and Pearson. For Florence here, you have a point from Cage Roy, two from Fulmer, and two from Lewis. And the Panthers, led and scorned by their big man, Harrelson, who has 10, and the 6'7", Toms, who has 10. You say, well, I thought you said the big man had 10. Well, the 6'9", one is Harrelson. The 6'7", one is Toms. Must be nice. Met some kids that graduated from Florence High School this week. They all were tall. I just don't know what it is, but Huntsville High School has a lot of size.
[57:30] It will be Florence basketball when we start quarter number three. Pearson, Jones, Payne, Skipworth, and Irons will start the third quarter. So down by 14. This Falcon team, like I said, win or lose already. I can see I like the parts that are there. They're playing one of the best teams in the state. And as we look right now, I think three players on the floor maybe even played football, two or three at least. Pearson has it after he gets it inbounds. Pearson drives into the lane, picks up the dribble, nowhere to go, back up top.
Jones says, nope, Skipworth said no. Now they get it to Irons, back to Pearson. Irons with the dribble handoff to Pearson, tried to roll to it, couldn't. Payne got a step, lost it in the lane, gets it back, kicked it back out. Won't take the shot at Skipworth. He drives, lost it back out. Now it's going to be to Payne for three. Back rim, won't go. Front rim, no good. Last kicked out of bounds by Huntsville. Florence will keep it. Down by 14. One thing about Florence on the rebounding side, they're not intimidated by the 6'7", 6'9".
Guys, they'll get in there and box out and battle for the rebounds. I like seeing that, too. Matter of fact, in summer camp, they did a really good job rebounding. I hope that becomes one of their strengths. Jones, dribble on the right wing, gets it to Pearson in the corner. Ball fake, step back, three on the way. Ooh, it wouldn't go. Rebound, chased down, though, this time by Huntsville in the corner. The Panthers will bring it up to the floor. Bobbitt has it. Bobbitt picked up by Payne at the midcourt strike.
Goes to the right side. Farnson, all white, blue numbers, blue numerals. And tonight, the Panthers are in the military green. Ball knocked away, stolen away by Irons. He's got a run out. His big man behind him laid it up, put it in. How about Jaden Irons right there? Beautiful play by Jaden Irons. Showing his ability to read the passing lane. Trims it down to 12 with the first basket here in the third quarter for either team. Bobbitt to Lewis on the wing. Lewis keeps the dribble alive, yo-yos it.
Now they lob it in to Toms. Toms looking to post up. Double teamed inside. Got away with the walk. Goes up with a shot. No good. Rebound. Knocked around. Out of bounds. Nope, saved by Harrelson. That should have been a foul. No call. Three on the way. Good. Guess who? Gossett again. He's hit four three-pointers. That's a big difference, too. So three guys with big scores have come up big for Huntsville in double figures already. Payne in front court. Got it in the corner. Deep three on the way.
Will not go. All around the rim. Rebound knocked away, but it's taken by Huntsville. Lewis picks up the dribble. So Florence down by 15. Deep three by Gossett. No good. He finally misses one. He's human. Rebound by Payne. Payne surveys traffic. Gets it up the floor. Got it to Skipworth. Cross court. Pearson open. Three ball up. Will not fall. Got his rebound. Goes in the basket. Laid it up. Put it in. Amongst the trees. Jayside Pearson. Get a feeling right here. Florence is starting to find a little rhythm.
I don't know why, but I just sensed they do. Down by 13 with 539 to go in the third. Pearson picked the pocket. Stole it away from Bobbitt. One on one. Pearson. Resetation. Layup. No good. Here comes the Falcons chasing down. Put it up. Put it in. And that's checking on Jayside. Is he okay? He's all right. Now they're going to blow the whistle and check on him. He got hit underneath the basket. I want to make sure he's okay. Jayside don't lay around a whole lot. He gets up slow, but he's walking off under his own power.
And Dylan Burleson says, all right. What about the hustle by Payne? Realizing his teammate was one-on-one down there. He beat all the Panthers down. Put it in. And Florence, a little run here. They trailed it 37-23 by 14. They've trimmed it down to 11. Front court. Panthers have it. Lewis has it. Picks up the dribble. Now, almost knocked away by Fulmer, but he didn't get it. I don't think Fulmer realized he got his hand on it. Harrelson picked up by Jones. Way up top. Gossett now lobs it to the side.
They want to go inside to Toms. The double team come, and boy, they're going to call a foul on White. But White reached over and grabbed the ball with one paw and yanked it away from Toms. And maybe it's just because the referee is a little amazed, but he took it away from him. But it's going to be a foul on White. 11-point lead for the Panthers. Florence didn't have an answer for the height of Huntsville, but they don't have an answer for the size and girth of Florence.
The substitution coming in. Florence will bring in Javion Lewis for White, who might have picked up a second or third foul. The bench all standing up to applaud. Inbounds pass to the corner. Back up top to Gossett. Had it knocked away, poked away. Last touch by Florence. The quickness of Florence starting to be a factor here. 5-0-3 to go. Dylan Burleson had his team down by 14 at the half. Trimmed it down to 11. They're going to try to lob it inside here. Watch out. Florence does a good job of seeing that.
Won't let them do it. That's great defense by Lewis and Jones helping out. Fulmer guarding Lewis up top. Lewis got a step. Goes in the lane. Kicks it over to Toms and laid it up. Put it in. So Toms gets the basket. And a steal on the other end. Lay up behind the scenes. And Bobbitt gets it in. So that's the first time Florence got turned over there. So back-to-back baskets. Extends the lead back to 15 before you can blink. Payne. Up top. Pulls up from deep.
[1:03:02] Three. Won't go. Rebound taken down by Toms. Toms lost it out of bounds. It should be Florence balling. It is. That's great defense by Jones. Who lost his shoe. The shoe came off with the right foot. But he still played defense and knocked it off of the knee of Toms. And it goes back to Florence. Pearson to inbound it. Underneath the basket. Looking, looking, having trouble. He's going to have to throw it all the way back in the backcourt again. The signs of this team gives them a lot of trouble.
Pearson for three now. That one wouldn't follow. The Falcons cold from outside. I think they've hit one three-pointer on the day. Those will start to fall before the year's over. And watch out when they do. Left wing. Driving baseline. Kicks it in the corner. Deep three on the way. Up. And that one's good. By Gruber. Gruber hits the three. Pearson double-team. Gets rid of it to Payne. Payne will bring it up the floor. Payne will attack. Payne to the basket. And the foul is called on Toms.
And he'll go to the line to shoot two. Florence down by 18. The largest lead of the day for the Panthers with 350 to go. And this Falcon team just a little cold from outside. I've got them with one three-pointer on the day. Meanwhile, five three-pointers for this Huntsville team. Payne's free throw up. Will not go. The effort's there. The pieces are there. Still starting to get their feet under them for football. One, two. Like, Lewis is out there. Played football. Pearson played football. We've had Irons out there.
Played football. And missing a couple, too. White played football. That's been a big part of the game, I think. Both three throws. No good. Rebound taken down by Huntsville. Those things will be corrected. Those are correctable, easy things that will come. What we're looking for now is just effort to finish this one out well here in the third quarter. Great defense. And Jones had a great defensive play, but somehow he got rid of it inside to Toms. And Toms happened to turn, and the ball was there, and the Falcon defenders didn't see it, and Toms gets fouled.
That's great defense by Jones, who forced what should have been a turnover, but instead it'll be free throws for Toms. And Falcons will call a timeout. We'll do the same. 3.34 to go. Huntsville leads at 47-29. Falcon basketball back in 60. Flavor is calling at Lost Pizza Company Shoals. Introducing the new limited-time-only margarita pizza. Rogersville. Athens. Decatur. The Shoals. 93-9. The score. 3-34 to go in the third. Florence down to Huntsville. 47-29. Make it 48-29. It's Toms. 6-7 post player hits the free throw. Toms on the day. He's starting to make his name known. He has 13 unofficially. Harrelson has 10. So that's 23. Make it 24. They don't miss free throws. Let's see. It's on both.
Those 24, along with a 12 from Gossett, 36 of the 49 points coming from those three players. And that three-man gang there with a great three-point shooter, Gossett. And the two big men have doubled up the Falcons by 20, 49-29. Pearson, double-teamed frontcourt. Bounce pass up to Fulmer. Fulmer goes inside. Got it to Payne. Lay it up. Actually, that's Jones who laid it in. Jones gets the basket. Florence picks up full court. I still like the way Florence is playing defense. They're getting after it. This is a great Huntsville team.
This Florence team not intimidated. They're going to be fine. Going to be fine. Up the floor. Deep three on the way from the corner. That's good. Bobbitt gets that one. Pearson backcourt. Steps back away from the double team. Gets it to Fulmer. Fulmer in the corner. Deep three for Payne. That one wouldn't fall. Fight for the rebound. Got by Florence there. Irons pulls it down. Irons pulls it up. Goes back up and is fouled. Actually, that's White. Excuse me, Lewis. Javion Lewis. He got that rebound amongst the trees.
[1:08:15] Used the big body. Pulled it down. And he'll go to the line. Like I said, about five or six players from the football team are on the basketball team. It's going to happen. It'll take a few games. But they've got to hurry up a little bit because in about three weeks, area play starts. Javion will shoot two. First one of the way. Got that one. Got that one. 52-32. Huntsville the lead. Payne will get a breather. He deserves it. Pearson Fulmer on the floor along with Lewis, Roy, and Jones.
And Irons waiting to check in for Lewis if you make this free throw. And it wouldn't go. Rebound taken down by Harrelson of Huntsville. Up the floor. Threw it away. Turnover. It'll go back to Florence. So, Florence forces a turnover there. And Irons will come in for Lewis. Let's see why Dylan Burleson likes this team. He knows this team can start putting things together. They're going to be okay if they can shoot the ball especially. And he thinks they can. Roy to Pearson. Pearson, a little point guard is something special.
In the lane, floater off everybody. No good, but he's fouled. He challenged four Panthers. And it wasn't out of line. He got the step. He got the angle. And he drew the contact. He showed last year the little general as a junior how good he is. There's the free throw good. Christian swears. Goes to about a nine-man bench. But Florence has gone about nine deep and still tonight. Or maybe ten deep. Second free throw by Pearson. Good. He got them both. By the way, Kevontae Green still not in uniform.
He injured in football. So, I hope we'll have him back soon. Tom's drives. Had it stripped away. Guess who? Jayshod Pearson. Former gets it back to Pearson. Here comes Florence with it across the midcourt strike. Pearson to the right. Hesitation dribble. Got a step. Euro layup. Good. Wow. Jayshod putting on a little bit of a show right now. Showing that he can be a special. The inside to go to Tom's. He got away with a walk. Laid it up. No good. Rebound by Tom's. Great defense there.
And a whistle. And what are they going to call? Something on the floor all the way back here at midcourt. So, it'll be Huntsville ball underneath the basket. I think it was the volleyball ringlet came out of the floor. 52-35. Huntsville has a 17-point lead with 2-0-1 to go here in the third. I think Dylan Burleson and staff knew this would be a tough game to open up, but it would be a beneficial game. Up top. Gossett in the corner. Deep three by Bobic on the way.
High archer shot. No good. Rebound inside by Lewis. He goes back to Bobic. Bobic drives. Nowhere to go with it. Underneath. Put it up. And that one. Go rebound. Taking by Florence is Roy. He's a double team. Got to step out of that and be strong with it. He's fouled. Bobic reached in and grabbed Roy by the arm. So, Florence will inbound it. Have to go 94 feet with it. Florence will be on the road Friday night at Albertville. Our next broadcast next Tuesday night at home is the home opener.
So, we'll keep you updated on all that. Hope to do 15 to 17, maybe 18 games before the year's over. Pearson will bring it up the floor. Gets the high screen from Roy. Comes and rejects it. Pearson between the leg dribble about four times. Picks up the dribble now. Gets it to Fulmer on the right wing. Fulmer drives. Kicked it back out and knocked away and stolen away. That'll be strong with the basketball there. Knocked away from behind by Pearson. They're going to get Pearson on the foul. J-Sot said, I don't know about that.
And the referee said, he called it. And I think he realized when he blew the whistle, he said, I'm going to stick with it. But I think he realized, yes, son, you may have gotten away with that one pretty good. He actually almost all but apologized to J-Sot. He said, yep, I'll call the foul. So, with 1.23 to go, Harrelson would come in. Toms would go up to the bench. They inbound it. Shot on the way from the corner. That one would go. Harrelson went over the back, got the rebound, missed it.
Actually, that was Toms who got it. And the last touch by Florence. I don't know how that is. So, 52-36. 16-point lead in Panthers basketball. They have both big men on the court. So, they look to lob it in to the top. Gossett. Wanted to go inside. Great defense by Roy right there. Harrelson going against Roy. Trying to post him in that section. Toms had to poke away. Good job by Roy. He gets it back to Gossett for three. Missed it. No good. Rebound. Last touch.
[1:13:20] Going to go back to Huntsville again. I know the score says 52-36 with 1.03 to go here in the third quarter. But I'm going to be honest with you. As a basketball fan and has known basketball for years from Florence, I'm smiling. This team's got a chance to be a fairly good team. Inside they go. Inside ball knocked away. And they're going to call a foul on Florence. That one's a tough call. Toms winning gets three Falcons. They're going to call it on someone getting on the arm.
So, they'll inbound it again. Toms is the physical player more than Harrelson, even though he's a little bit shorter. They're going to get in and finally do to Thomas in the corner. He's going to try to bounce inside, put it up, roll to them. He's a good player. No doubt about it. Six-seven and got some game to him. Got him with 16 unofficially. And the lead at 18. Florence in the little corner. Under a minute to go here in the third. Payne has the top of the key.
Got the screen. Can't get the shot off. Keeps the drill alive. Back up top. Deep three on the way. Back rim, no good. Rebound fought for it. Taken by Harrelson. That was a better box out by the Panthers against the Falcons that time. Bobbitt got a step. Goes into the lane. Put it up. Missed it. No good. They're going to bail out a foul. And I think he did get fouled. Maybe a little fatigue for the first time for Florence. With 23 seconds to go. Trust me, I know Dylan Burleson.
He's not going to come away here with anything but. Teaching corrections. He does not like to lose. Free throw by Bobbitt is good. That's six on the day. Irons will come out. So, Florence will have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 in the game. That would be Jones, number zero. Payne, number one. Pearson, number two. Skip, where three. And Roy, number four. Free throw high off the back rim. Goes in. So, Bobbitt gets both of those. The lead back up to 20 with 20 seconds to go in the third. Dylan Burleson barking out signals.
Looks for the high screen up top. Can't get it. Play for the last shot. Payne being bodied up. Got the screen. Goes left. Got the step with the left hand. Pick it back out to Pearson. Pearson with four. Pearson pulled up for three. Put it up. That one wouldn't fall. Rebound taken by Roy. He's going to go down, but no foul. And that will be it for three quarters. Florence down by 20. 56-36 to a really good Huntsville team. This is Falcons basketball. We're back in 30. At North Alabama Bone and Joint Clinic, our Shoals roots run deep.

Florence High School basketball here on 93-9 The Score. Kevin Johnson flying solo with you. I've been in Huntsville all day. Got the slide over here and finishing up the day with this game.
Florence trailed Huntsville 17-15 after one. But that second quarter, it's all Huntsville. They held Florence to eight points and led at 37-23. And now they lead it by 20. 56-36. Led by three men, especially the two big men. The paint's been a key. Over 20-plus points in the paint, plus five three-pointers from Gossett. Actually, four three-pointers from Gossett. Five and six from the team. Florence, I think, has hit one three-pointer on the day. So, haven't been able to shoot the three-pointer well. And Huntsville had the basketball going left to right.
Wearing the military green uniforms is Huntsville. Florence leading the home white with blue numbers. Falcons across the front chest. Bobbitt. Left side with it. They go inside the toms, and he's fouled. That's a good call now. Jones was boxed out. Couldn't do anything about it. No doubt about it, he got him on the arm. Jones will go out. Irons will come back in. Harrelson gets it in the wing. Back out and bob it. Deep three on the way. No good. Rebounds. Bounced around, and Roy finally gets it.
Lost it again. Picked up by Lewis. Put it up. Put it in. Well, that one's one of those where actually Hill gets the basket. That's one of those Florence will be saying, oh, we should have had that one. That one will aggravate Coach Burleson more than any. Deep three on the way. That one's good for Florence, and that's from Skipworth. So Skipworth drains the three. Nice-looking shot. Trimps the lead to 19. Whistle away from the basket. Pearson trying to guard Toms on the inside. He don't back down from anybody.
[1:18:42] He was pushing on the inside. So J-Shot picks up the foul. So the six-seven Toms has had his way with many people. So Pearson said, let me guard him for a while. Inbounds pass stolen away by Payne. He sort of baited Huntsville on that one. Payne down the floor. Survey's traffic. Lost it. Picked it back up. Got it to Roy. Goes baseline. Roy up and under. Put the shot up. Blocked. Couldn't get it up. And that was Harrelson. Six-nine versus six-three. And six-nine usually wins that, and he did there.
58-39. Huntsville leads it with the basketball. Under seven to go. Ball knocked away. Stolen away by Florence. Pearson will bring it up the floor. Bounce pass over to Payne. Payne up with the left hand. Put it in. You get JC Unpaid on the side, and he's going to be a handful on the left side. And a whistle and a timeout taken by Huntsville will do the same. Florence trails at 58-41, 6-42 to go in the game. Come back and see us in 30 seconds. Irons Electric has been family-owned and operated for 65 years.

Back here at May Jemison High School, the whole site for this Veterans Day classic again.
Happy Veterans Day to all our veterans listening in today. Had to meet, got to meet a master sergeant from the U.S. Army, retired. Very pleasant. Mr. Woods, Master Sergeant Woods, thank you for your service and many others today as well. 6.42 to go here in the game. Florence shows at 58-41. Kevin Johnson, glad to be with you on this cold Veterans Day in Huntsville, Alabama. Huntsville will have it going left or right. Wearing their military green with the gold numbers. Sort of a Notre Dame look almost.
Maybe a Mountain Brook look. Maybe they got these uniforms from Mountain Brook back when Bucky was coaching and Coach Schreers was on the sideline. Maybe that's where it's from. I don't know. Now they're going to run some clock. Toms has the top of the key. They're going to dribble handoff and run their offense, but try to run some clock off up by 17. Go baseline, got the screens, kick it back up. Top three up, no good. Gossett finally missed one. Rebound out of bounds, last touch by the Panthers.
Good job by Irons boxing out. Jaden Irons will box out. He's a strong, strong young man. He'll come out of the game. Fulmore will come in. No, he'll stay in the game. Excuse me. Fulmore will come in and Jones will come out, I think, or Skipworth won. We'll check that. Skipworth comes out. Payne has it. Back court. To Pearson. Oh, well, he blows by one. Teardrop on the way. Oh, it wouldn't fall. He did everything right, but he couldn't get the teardrop over the 6-9 post player.
That was a beautiful thing, the way he set it up, though. 17-point lead for the Panthers. Gossett tried to get away from Fulmer. Can't. Now they go inside. Oh, can't do that. They kick it back out. Harrelson's got a mismatch inside. Florence knows it, so they keep doubling down. Great help there on the defensive side. Now they lob it into Toms. He got it wide open, laid it up, missed it, got it back, put it back. Got that one to go. Honestly, that's not bad defense by Florence against the big guys.
They were doing everything they could. The lead up to 19. 5-19 to go in the game. Payne. Free throw line. Picks up the dribble. Lost it. Knocked away. Got it back. Strong with the basketball. Back to the top. Pearson's three. Short. No good. Rebound taken down by the Panthers. They'll bring it up the floor. Give it off to Harrelson. Go baseline and miss the dunk because he saw a Falcon coming to him. Rebound taken by Florence. Fulmer has it. Hands it off up top. Payne for three.
That one. Back rim no good. Pearson gets the rebound. Jay shot said, let's settle it down. Run the offense. Down by 19 with 4.48 to go. Got the string from Irons. Keeps the dribble alive. Love how the Falcons keep the dribble alive. And he's fouled. He throws it to the basket. Wouldn't go, but they won't give him the shot. They said, no. The official said he wasn't shooting, even though it hit the backboard. Dylan Burleson was wanting two free throws. Couldn't get it. Again, thank you to the folks that made Jemison for helping us set everything up.
They've been very kind and gracious in this beautiful facility. If I'm not mistaken, one game still to be played today, too. I think it's the Jaguars have a game after this one. And they're going to say five-second Cal. Nope. Florence calls timeout. We'll do the same. Florence down by 19 with 4.39 to go. We're back in one minute. Getting the kids to practice on time. Remembering if it's your day to bring snacks. Making it to the game with a clean jersey. Why are simple things sometimes so complicated?

60-41. Falcons take on a team that will probably be a top-five team. I'd say the Falcons will probably be in the top ten after last season as well. The first things from the media comes out for that. Inbounds, quick three of the way by Jones. Off the rim, no good. Rebound, just the 6-9 length of Harrelson too much. He gets the rebound. Bobbick tries to spin away from Fulmer. Nose in the lane. Got a right-hand layup, put it in. Just kept the dribble alive and got the basket.
Now Payne, triple team. Dribbles out of the triple team. Bounce pass inside amongst the trees and ball knocked out of bounds. Blocked by Huntsville. Jones did the right thing. Go ahead and go up with it and make them block it out of bounds and they did. 62-41, Huntsville with the lead. Skipworth inbounded. Remember, some of these kids, this is their first varsity action in a varsity game. And Lawrence hasn't been intimidating. They've played hard, just hadn't shot it well. That's one thing. Deep three by Payne.
That one's good. You have a downtown force. His second three-pointer. I think it was 13 or 15 of the Falcons' points. 62-44. Ball knocked away. Caught right back to Huntsville. They just catch a break there. Lewis has it. Picked up there by Skipworth. But he lobbed it up to Harrelson in the corner. He lobs it to Toms in the lane. They're going to call the foul on Lewis of Florence. Javion was trying to push him. Toms is a tall 6'7 kid. Beats the stronger of the two big men.
And these twin towers. He likes the contact a little more. He'll go to the free-throw line. He shoots free-throws really well also. Knocks down the first. Tried to jinx him a little bit. Wouldn't work. So, Florence will start the season 0-1, it looks like, with three minutes and change to go. Second free-throw good by Toms. And a 20-point lead for the Panthers. The Panthers will go to 2-0. Payne, deep three on the way. Short, no good. Rebound, fall for it. Taken by Florence in there. Good job.
Jones for three in the corner. It wouldn't go. Rebound this time. Taken by the Panthers. They try to knock it off with Falcon and do. That's all that Lewis could do right there. He and Hill were in there. And Lewis threw that one off with Falcon player. And now I think Huntsville's starting to empty their bench a little more. Let's see. Carney coming back in the game. They'll keep Harrelson in there or Toms. Toms will stay in. I don't empty it much. Like I said, he goes about nine or ten deep with 3.16 to go.
JV and Lewis on the court floor along with Pearson, Payne, Skipworth, and Jones. Not sure what the officials are trying to figure out. Maybe a basketball. Something that they're going to have to get a new basketball. Whatever it is, they're figuring it out now. 20-point lead with 3.16 to go. Inbound pass comes. I think it's still a shot clock. As they're using that in this game today. Non-regional game. Really hadn't been a factor. I didn't even notice it. Toms missed the jumper. Rebound taken by Pearson. And Toms fouls Pearson because J-Shot did the old okie-dokie thing.
[1:29:32] Made him come over his back. And then J-Shot handed him the ball. Toms just took it and gave it right back to him here after a dribble or two. Sort of smiled. Said, yeah, you got me, young man. Three minutes to go. Harrelson will come back in. Christian Swears has won 32 games the last two years. He was 32-3 and 32-2. He's 64-5 over the last two seasons. Florence was 27-8 last year. So, two really good teams. Programs are going at it today. But it's been all Huntsville.
Payne in the lane. Pulled up. Jock blocked. He got it back. Ball swiped away. No call. Taken by Huntsville. They got to run out. The big man goes down and finally gets a dunk. So, finally gets his dunk in. Florence barely gets it in balance. Harrison gets it in balance. Harrison gets the dunk. Pearson. Teardrop up good. He's fouled. Jay Shaw is so savvy. You'll hear that a lot this year. 66-46. Jay Shaw will go to the line to shoot the hand one. Irons will come back in along with Roy.
Lewis and Skipworth, I think, check out. And the Huntsville crowd. And the Huntsville crowd starting to cheer. Finally, they start to get to the bottom of their bench a little bit. Free throw. Pearson would not fall. Rebound taken down by the Panthers. Bobby. Florence next game on the road Friday at Albertville. We won't have that broadcast, but we'll have it next Tuesday at home when the Falcons host a buckhorn. Bobbick. Right side with it. We'll run some clock. Pearson stays on him. Gets the screen. Good switch by Irons there.
Back to Bobbick as he gets it back from Redski, who checked in the game. Nearly stolen away. Irons got poked in the face. No call. Bobbick put it up at the end. Incidental contact. But Bobbick gets the basket. Pearson dribbles, looks, nowhere to go. Kicks it back out. Deep three by Roy Short. No good. Rebound taken down by the Panthers, who lead it 68-46 with a minute 22 to go. Redski for three in the corner, and he makes it. The crowd goes crazy off the bench. Timeout on the floor.
We'll do the same. It's all Huntsville over Florence with 1-16 to go. This is Falcon Basketball. We're back in 30. This is Miranda Haddock with the Florence Education Foundation. We would like to extend an invitation to our eighth annual Shoals Off the Showdown on Saturday, November 15th, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Singing River Brewery. We want to wish Coach Morrison and the Falcon football team good luck this season. 1-15 and counting, Florence down by 25 to a really good Huntsville team. A foul called on Huntsville, reaching in on Roy. And Florence's Roy will not go to the free-the-line because that's not enough fouls. I tell you, it's just been a tough shooting night for Florence, and this is a Huntsville team that shoots it well.

It was good for Florence to get this under their belt and play one of the top teams in 7A.
And Coach Dylan Burleson will have a lot of teaching to come off the film and get ready and just get his guys in basketball shape. It's not how you start. It's how you finish. The Falcons know that, so no panic in that Falcons team. And they played hard all game. The effort was there. It was never an effort issue. It was never any pouting. There were no body language or culture. Just a really good team. Outsized Florence a little bit. That played a factor. Let's get some of the points here for both teams.
For Florence, Taylor Jones had four points. These are unofficial by means, I promise you. I had Jaceon Payne with 13, 17 for Pearson, Skipworth with five, Roy with one, Fulmer with two, four for Jaden Irons, and four for J.B. and Lewis. So Florence is Taylor Jones had four, Jaceon Payne had 13, Jaceon Pearson had 17, Tamari and Skipworth with five, Cage Roy with one, and Cooper Fulmer with two. Jaden Irons, as I said, with four, and J.B. and Lewis with two. And I cut that right, with five, excuse me, or with three, excuse me, three for J.B. and Lewis.
Huntsville led and scored by Evan Toms, the 6'7", post player, had 20. His counterpart at 6'9", David Harrison had 12. So there's your 32 points there. Basically, that was the end of the game right there. Gossett hit four three-pointers. He had 12. Bobbitt had 11. And then the rest filled out for Christian Schwerer's team that goes to 2-0 of the year. Florence 0-1. The Falcons on the road this Friday at Albertville. Another tough, tough opponent.
