It was a generally bad start for Alabama, as the defense gave up plenty of yards and conversions to a dreadful South Carolina offense while the Tide offense was completely anemic. However, a DaShawn Jones pick 6 off of a bobbled screen pass put the Tide in front by 7 points early, and the USC field goals (both made and missed) were never able to take the lead.
Eventually, Alabama’s offense nabbed a score after a long Daniel Hill conversion on a scramble pass and a 4th down touchdown to Josh Cuevas, giving the Tide a 14-6 lead.
On the final drive, Ty Simpson scrambled for a 4th conversion, but the clock ultimately won, and the Tide couldn’t pull off a final pass play, eschewing a 58 yard field goal attempt.
Overall, the Tide barely had the ball on offense in the first half, but managed to get into halftime with an 8 point lead.
It wasn’t good by any stretch… but the Tide has the buffer to turn things around.
Roll Tide!
